> Previously, on Mage the Awakening Quest!

After gathering up some allies to aid in the venture to rescue Elizabeth, Jemma dropped Michael off at his home before she returned to work. Endeavoring to learn the extent of his powers, Michael proceeded to test his limits at the complex's gym, before accidentally casting a spell in front of a Sleeper tenant in the building. Getting whacked with his first Paradox, he quickly evaded the probing tenant's questions long enough to escape to the privacy of his apartment, where he suffered the full force of the Bedlam Paradox. A quick call to Jemma alleviated some of his fears, and after the passage of several minutes, the Paradox wore off.

Realizing that his appearance might startle others, or question what happened to him (and invoke further Paradoxes), he quickly ran out, bought several pairs of colored contact lenses and hair dye to return his appearance back to normal. A quick call into work to give a believable explanation for not going in the next day, and Michael soon turned to bed to rest.

After being rudely awoken by Jemma, Michael quickly changed and the two of you set out to get the other two partners joining you on this venture: Diana, a Powersmith, who crafted you several weapons, armor, and even built a van for you to operate out of. The other is Garen, a seemingly old man with a mastery over Life magic, who can quickly turn himself into a veritable man of muscle and youth. Together, the four of them drive to where Jemma believes Chrom is holed up at: in the sanctuary that Elizabeth has created for her Mystic persona.

After talking their way inside, Michael is soon left alone with a faximiliede of Elizabeth, being controlled by Chrom. He brings the captive body of Elizabeth forward, the very soul of her being trapped in a body she appears to no longer have any control of.

> And now, back to the action!

You're almost certain that everything Chrom's doing - revealing Elizabeth's horrid, helmeted state to you, him groping her, and now kissing her - is meant to do nothing more than get you angry, to make you snap and make a mistake and play right into his hands.

But you're already a good 7 feet in the air, leaping across the table, brass knuckled fists already aimed at punching Chrom's head clean off. You don't care that you're at least 20 feet away, or that you have no idea what he has planned, or to the extent of how much control he has exerted over Elizabeth, and the powers she possesses.

That's your wife, she's in trouble, and you are NOT about to disappoint her once again.

Your fist almost reaches Chrom's head, before all your forward momentum stops. Elizabeth's hand is pointed at you, hand glowing ever so lightly with a magical tint to it. You glance back and see your entire body is hovering in the air, and no matter how hard you try to move, your limbs won't respond.

Chrom pulls back from the kiss, grinning wildly, as he begins to slip on a pair of latex gloves. "I must say, I am rather disappointed, Michael Santos. I expected you to know what I was doing. Then again," his hands begin to glow with a purple aura, as he brings them both up to your head. "She is a wonderful woman." He grabs onto your skull, the magical glow engulfing your entire vision, the last thing you see being a stream of tears rolling down the cheeks of Elizabeth.

And our resource document. It's updated to reflect us spending 15 of our 32 experience points gained over the past few quests to bump Spirit up to 3 dots. Spirit 3 lets us do several important things, the most noteworthy ones being:

- Injuring the soul of a target
- Healing the soul of a target
- Asking local spirits for aid
- Summon a familiar (requires the Familiar Merit)

You begin to see all the memories you have of Elizabeth play out around you, from meeting her at a college party, to your first date, to your marriage, to when she leaves you. And slowly, you see the video of them change; instead, it's your friend Chrom asking her out. Chrom asking you to be his best man at the wedding. Chrom marrying Elizabeth. And you feel happy for him, it's what he wants, and he makes her happy, doesn't he?

'No, this is wrong!'

You resist the memories changing, holding onto the love you have for Elizabeth and the hatred you have for Chrom, crying out in pain and anger to hold onto the truth, and suddenly it all vanishes. Your eyes open, vision returning to you, as Chrom recoils back in shock, the latex gloves smouldering as he begins to pull them off.

"Hmm... Maybe this will be some fun after all," Chrom smirks out, putting on a fresh pair of gloves. A loud banging noise echoes out from behind you, and you struggle to glance back. Chrom ducks, Elizabeth throwing out a glowing bubble around her and Chrom, and the force holding you afloat disappears. Gravity quickly applies, and you fall to the ground with a loud thud.

"Michael!" You look back and see Jemma, her large, modified handgun smoking at the barrel, as more bullets fire towards Chrom. They impact the bubble and thud, large reverberations echoing through it, but the bullets fall to the ground harmlessly. Garen leaps past her, now in his youthful, muscled form, picking you up with little more effort than a dropped bag of sugar, and gets you standing straight up, a magical wave of energy flowing through you, like a quick scan to see if anything is wrong.

"Are you ok, young man?"

"Not until Elizabeth's safe," you mutter back, shifting your gaze from the spiritual vision into pure magic. You nearly recoil in shock, like a flash going off in a dim room, as you see the bubble being a combination of a strong Fate and Time magic, with you intrinsically knowing that almost anything magical or physical passing through it will simply stop or disintegrate, as the bubble has a second, smaller one inside it to protect the inhabitants from the effects of Time being sped up so much.

"Let the Mystic go, Chrom," Jemma says, her free hand glowing with raw magic. "Or I swear to God that whatever you did to her, I'll do to you a thousand times over!"

"I'd rather not," he says from inside the bubble. "You see, I need her to complete my research."

we established last thread, that there IS actually still a connection between us and elizabeth. A line going from her to us, that we saw while he was pawing at her
Unless this bubble severed that connection, we could send spirit healing magic through it.

If you'd like to sure. We used 1 Willpower so far, and have 4 points left. From here-on out, if you guys want to blow a Willpower point on a roll, just add 3d10 to the roll, and say in your post that you are blowing it.

If you don't, I'll assume you just mis-typed the dice roll and will invalidate the roll, no matter how good or bad it is.
>>

the spell would be 5 dice + 3 from willpower actually. sincce we have 3 in spirit + 2 gnosis + 3 willpower
>>
to be fair, we really should have a vote, declare winner, then roll for the winning choice policy.
>>
I do the vote + roll together, because it saves time, instead of having to spend another 5-10 minutes of people rolling. Would you guys rather have it be that you vote, and if a roll is required, then roll?

Also, writing based upon us blowing a willpower to talk to Elizabeth.

Also, aren't we doing >>36449893 as well?
>>
>>36450079
Indeed we are, re-writing what I was about to post.
>>
>>36450067
In theory its fine to do and roll together. but the problem is that choices have different dice counts

Are we using persuade (3 dice), soul heal (5 dice), persuade + willpower (6 dice), soul heal + willpower (8 dice).

A viable solution I can see to it is:
>Roll 10 dice
>Use only however many dice are needed by the winning choice.

of course the issue there is that if we roll
>10,10,10, 3, 1,2
then people are going to rightly vote for the 3 dice choice rather than the 5 dice one. since the 5 dice option actually did worse.
>>
>>36450067
two willpower. one willpower on talking. one willpower on spirit spell to restore her soul
>>
>>36449961
can someone remind me. does a 10 mean +2 successes, or does it mean +1 success and roll an additional die?
Also, is a 1 a -1 success?
>>
>[1/?]

"I know you're still in there," you say, dropping all anger you had in your voice, instead shifting to an empathetic, understanding tone. "And I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough for you back then. But I'm here now, and I promise to never betray your trust again. So please," you reach a hand out towards her, getting close to - but not passing through - the bubble. "Come back to me."

You see her arm begin to twitch, the bubble wavering in strength ever so slightly. Instantly, Chrom pulls a small gun out of his coat and thrusts it up to Elizabeth's head. "Take one more step, one more word, and I'll blow her brains out."

"You wouldn't risk it," you glance back at him, seeing the fear in his eyes. "You do that, and at best you lose your research subject. At worst, you die a thousand deaths."

"Just try me."

You don't think he's bluffing, but you aren't sure how else to reach through to Elizabeth. The bubble is still intact, but her body begins to twitch and shiver in place. Either he's doing something silently to her, to try and re-assert his control over her, or she's struggling to fight free of his control. You take a deep breath, shifting back to your Spiritual Sight, and muster up all the magical power you can, and begin to slowly feed it through the thread linking your soul to hers, trying to both heal the thread from it's frayed and twisted shape, and her soul, in it's twisted and muted colors.

The thread soon begins to shift shape, as your emotions of regret, sorrow, love and forgiveness flow out of you, through the cord, and into Elizabeth. It begins to unwind, frayed lines repairing themselves. Her soul begins to change as well; colors begin to return, and the twisted shapes inside of it begin to fade away.

"W... What are you doing," Chrom asks, eyes going wide. He looks at Elizabeth, trying to exert more magical control over her. "No... NO!" His finger pulls on the trigger, and the sound of his gun firing echoes out of the bubble.

Everything freezes. All around you, you see people moving, Jemma firing at Chrom, a bullet barely leaving the barrel of her gun. Garen moves towards the bubble, his hand glowing green. You see the head of Diana poking out from behind Jemma, looking onward in shock and horror.

Inside the bubble, the bullet sits next to the helmet on Elizabeth's head, not moving an inch. Inside the bubble itself, you see Elizabeth's hands reaching up from beside her, gently removing the metal device encasing her head. She pulls it free, her hair flowing down across her dress. She smiles at you, tears streaming from her eyes.

"I know," she says, looking at you. For the first time in over a year, you finally see her face. Her trademark smile, her gorgeous blue eyes, her silvery-white hair. "Thank you, for coming to save me." She turns away from Chrom, away from the bullet, and grabs onto your hand, the bubble dissipating as through it was never there to begin with. Her grip is frail, the skin feeling dry and cracked in your hands. But it's her, it's really her.

You pull her towards you, as time moves forward, sounds playing out all around you. The helmet drops to the ground with a thud, Chrom's bullet impacting the wall near where Elizabeth was standing. Jemma's bullet hits Chrom in the shoulder, severing the arm holding the gun. He screams in pain and shock, as Garen's glowing fist grabs his head.

Everyone sort of looks around for a moment, wondering what the hell just happened. Chrom's struggling in Garen's fist, weakly trying to pull free with his one working arm, as blood begins to squirt out of where his other arm should be. Jemma relaxes her gun, the magic in her hand dissipating, as Diana dashes past her towards Garen, a bag of supplies in her hands.

"No, you can't, you can't!" Chrom cries out, feet dangling in the air. "My work isn't finished, I've-"

Diana jabs a large syringe into Chrom's thigh, a silvery white liquid flowing out of it and into him. Almost instantly Chrom stops struggling, the blood squirting from his arm stopping, skin growing over the wound, and within seconds a stump appears, as though it was always there to begin with.

"Thank you," Garen says, tossing the body into the table. "It was rather difficult to not crush his skull in." He looks back at the two of you, Elizabeth in your hugging embrace. "If I may?"

"Please, if you would Garen." She pulls away from you for just a second, no words needing to be said. Garen's hands begin to glow once more, and he begins to hover them over her body. Her thin, wrinkled limbs begin to thicken and heal, as months of atrophy and malnurishment are magically fixed in mere seconds. Soon, she looks like her old self, the confident, beautiful woman you married.

"Thank you," you say, tears streaming from your eyes. "For everything."

Garen pats you on the shoulder, the mustached grin filling you with a warm sense of comraderie. "My dear friend, you needn't worry about repaying us for this. An honorable man seeks to do what is right, with no desire for a reward."

"Speak for yourself," Diana says, kneeling next to the helmet on the ground, poking it with a wrench. "I expect to be fully paid for this! Honestly, I was expecting a big fight, with explosions and car chases and everything!"

"So, what do we do with Chrom's body," you ask, looking over to it. "I mean, he is dead, right?"

"No," Garen says, picking up the used syringe off the ground. "This is a combination of a powerful sedative and a fast-acting, powerful healing spell. I'd brewed this up with the intention of knocking out the Mystic if we couldn't talk her down," he looks back at her, as you interlock her outstretched hand with yours. "But I can see it isn't going to be needed. He'll be out for a few hours, but we do need to figure out how to best deal with him."

"I say we just kill him," Diana says, digging about inside of the wiring in the helmet. "He's way nutso, even for a Mage, and I don't think he'll stop with a stern warning. Plus, I know how to get rid of a body super quick."

"We could also turn him in to the Adamantine Arrows," Jemma says, a look of relaxation and joy on her face. It's rather unsettling, to see her actually happy. "Keep him sedated until they arrive, and they can lock him up with the other rogue Mages they've captured over the centuries."

"What about you, Lizzie," you look back at her. She smiles, and you realize that you keep making the same mistake; calling her by her real name, not her self-appointed title. "Sorry."

"It's ok, I think they all know by now," she says, noting how you haven't let go of her since Garen gave her the medical check-up. "And you probably don't know this, but the Adamantine Arrows are an organization that deal with most of the combat applications of how Magic works. They're usually called in for other supernatural business, when force is needed. But they also house some of the more dangerous rogue Mages. Ones that threaten both Mage and Sleeper alike."

You did mean to ask about that, but her mind-reading skills (either magical or her just knowing you so well) are as sharp as ever. You note how some parts of her soul are still greyed out, but they are slowly returning to color, as the spiritual bond between you two continues to grow thicker and stronger.

"Are you guys sure that the Arrows will keep him locked up forever? No secret black ops that they'd use Chrom on, once they find out all that he was researching?"

"In all my years of knowing the Arrows, once they lock someone up, they never see the light of day again," Elizabeth says, looking at Chrom. It's a mixture of hatred and pity. The first emotion makes sense, the second one baffles you. But she's always had faith in Man, thinking that people can become better. And with her being a Mage, you can certainly why she holds certain people to a higher standard.

"Call the Arrows in," you say, pulling Elizabeth to follow you. "I don't want to see this piece of shit ever again." She follows along, as Jemma begins to dial a number, Garen watching over the body, and Diana disassembling the helmet. You step out into the hallway, making sure no one else is nearby. "Listen, I-"

She lunges up and kisses you, wrapping her arms and hands around you, pulling you in close to her. You return the kiss, realizing that you haven't touched anyone this way in over a year, for all the flirting and playboying you've done. She pulls away for a moment, catching her breath. "When you linked with me, I felt everything. You really are sorry for what you did, and I can feel it." She puts her hand over your chest, feeling the increasing beat of your heart. "And you have no idea how much that means to me."

"I love you," you say to her, leaning down and kissing her again. This one lasts much longer, as the two of you slowly savor the action, re-acquainting yourselves with one another.

"Ahem," Jemma says, coughing rather loudly. The two of you break apart in shock, blushing rather deeply. "The Arrows will be here momentarily. I'd suggest keeping those emotions on lock down until you get home." She grins, walking back into the room. "Before you two fuck like rabbits."

> [2/2]

The alarm clock goes off, as you slowly turn over and slam the snooze button on it. You turn back over in bed, looking at the sleeping woman next to you, her hair a tangled mess after all the action from last night. You gently brush it aside, to get a clearer look at the woman you love. You hadn't realized how backed up you or her were, but last night was certainly something special. And now that you are a Mage, she suggested some rather... "special" tricks she picked up over the years.

"Magic truly is a wonderful thing," you say to yourself, smiling at just how lucky you are to know this amazing woman.

Do you guys actually want me to write smut? I don't mind using foul language, I'd just rather not dirty the quest with smut. Personally, I prefer a 'fade to black' scene, but if people want smut, I'll write some up and put it on a pastebin or something.

You lie in bed for now, silently watching over her, gently brushing loose strands of hair out of her face, slowly caressing her gentle curves. Soon, she stirs, eyes fluttering open to your smiling face.

"Morning," she whispers out, smiling as she feels your hand's movements. "Again?"

"Only if you feel up to it," you reply.

Indeed, Magic is a wonderful thing.

After what feels like an eternity you hop out of bed, promising to make a tasty breakfast for her to enjoy in bed. You've barely begun to scramble the eggs before a loud pounding echoes out from your front door.

"Michael? You there?" It's Joseph, one of the head lawyers at your work's law firm, the person you were doing the file run for the other day.

"Hang on a second," you yell, turning the burner off as you finish scrambling the eggs. As soon as you do so, you dash to the bathroom and grab a bath robe, slinging it on yourself as you double-check and make sure your hair and eyes are their previous, Sleeper colors. Once that's all decided upon, you open the door. "Sorry, got me in the bathroom."

"No worries man," he says, entering the apartment. "You ready for the deposition today?"

"Yeah, yeah, no problem." Fuck. You were so busy with all the rescuing and celebrating with Elizabeth, you completely forgot about all the work and case you were working on with Joseph.

"Good morning, Joseph," Elizabeth says, walking out of the bedroom in a bath robe of her own. She gives him a polite, friendly peck on the cheek, which he returns. "Come to pick up my lazy bum of a husband and get him to do actual work for a change?"

"You know it." He sniffs for a second, smelling the eggs in the air. "You making her breakfast, Mike? You know you can't cook worth a damn."

"I'm learning for her sake," you say, wrapping an arm around her. "Can't let her cook all the time."

"Go ahead hun, I'll finish up." She gives you a quick peck on the cheek, motioning for you to actually go and get dressed for work.

>So killing him wouldn't have been just?
please correct me if I am wrong. But if I am understanding it correctly. it would be just. the issue is that you don't get willpower from merely following your virtue/vice.

You must actually self sacrifice for your virtue. Both options were justice, we went with the justice that involved sacrificing our own desire so it refilled it. if we had went for the justice which was the same as our desire, it wouldn't.

With vice its the opposite, its about indulging in a manner that sacrifices others. All the sex with our wife won't help, we have to hurt someone. Like cheating on your wife. Or if you have none, NTRing someone
>>
>>36452494
Not really. But they can lend bonuses or penalties to certain rolls. For example, say you're a pacifist but your virtue is Justice and you see a dude raping a girl in an alley as she cries out for salvation. You cap his ass right then and there almost instinctively.

Surely, he's most deserving of a lead lunch to the dome. Doubly so for those into MUH JUSTICE! But then, that ain't at all pacifistic, and you'd like to consider yourself one.

You'd still roll for degeneration, but you'd get some bonus die because you're still acting in accordance with your virtue, just not in the way you find ideal. Virtues and Vices are kind of the core you build around. Your character idealizes X while it's constantly drawn to do Y in spite of their better judgement or values.

Your virtue is the "light side" of your character, what they embody in their finest moments. Your vice is what they are in the shadows, your dark side, the detestable desire they just can't truly defy no matter how much they want to. It's a play on human nature, the potential for good and evil. It's there to give ideas and guidelines for behavior.

Back from dinner, writing.

> [1/2]

You run to the bedroom, digging out one of your courtroom suits and begin to get dressed. You wrack your brain for all the details of the case. Near as you can remember, it was a patent dispute between a client, and a multi-billion dollar corporation. Your client had produced evidence that he filed the patent days before the company did the same, with the corporation saying that the client had produced the patent in question while under contract for them.

You were going to the warehouse storage to back up the client's claim when the vampire attacked you, so you never personally saw the file. But you do remember glancing at some of that paperwork in your emails from that night saying that another paralegal went and picked the files up, once the police were certain they weren't evidence for the murders involved in the building. And not only did the paperwork support the client's accusations, it even has a stipulation in it that if the company tries to do such a thing without any evidence, then the client is liable to get a rather hefty settlement (ie., lots of hush-hush money) to keep quiet. Enough to retire away to a beach in the Bahamas for the rest of your days hefty.

You gather up some of the paperwork and your laptop from your study, as Joseph chit-chats with Elizabeth over the scrambled eggs and a glass of orange juice. "Sorry about that," you say, giving Elizabeth a quick peck on the cheek. "I'll give you a call when we get out of the deposition." You pat Joseph on the back, signalling you're ready to go.

"Good luck hun," she smiles out, as Joseph downs the last of the orange juice. "Talk to you later."

Dem successes
>>
"Nice find on that stipulation," Joseph says, as the two of you leave the board room in your law firm's offices. "This turns the case from a bunch of he said, she said into a slam dunk, open and shut case."

"Well, I wanted to make up for missing work yesterday, so I poured over every inch of the paperwork," you reply, slinging the messenger bag off your shoulder, walking away from the board room and to your personal office. You turn the corner and head inside your office proper, setting it down next to your desk. "Need me for anything else?"

"Just double-check the paperwork on the Johnson case, but other than that, I got nothing for you." He sticks a balled fist out, and you return the fist bump. "I know things between you and Elizabeth have been rough these past few months. Nice to see you guys finally sit down and work things out."

"Yeah, thanks." Of all the people in the law firm, Joseph's the only one who got even close to knowing just how long Elizabeth was missing. "How're things with Henry?"

"Eh, normal couple stuff," he replies. "I'd rather not talk about it, you know? Keep the business seperate from personal stuff, you know?"

"Yeah, your letter mentioned that he did some mind fuckery to her. What exactly did he do to her, and is she the only one?"

There's silence on the other line, the sounds of paperwork being shuffled about. "Hun, I never sent a letter."

"... What do you mean? It was a letter from a FedEx guy. Jemma saw me open it. She even read it along with me. I had tears fall on it." You sit back up in your chair, checking your messenger bag with all the paperwork in it, to see if it somehow got lumped in with that. "I don't have it, do you?"

"No, it's not here," you hear her say, more shuffling noises heard.

"I figured a story like yours deserved a happy ending," a third voice echoes out from your phone speaker, a robotic tone. You nearly yelp in shock, but Elizabeth stays quiet. "The freshly Awoken Mage, not knowing his loving wife had tried to exact justice on the unwitting Sleeper he'd slept with. "Distraction from what," you both ask at the same time.

"Ah, ah, ah, you didn't say the magic word."

"...Please?" That tone of voice certainly reminds you of the fat little programmer from 'Jurrasic Park,' maybe that's what he meant by 'magic word?'

"That's better. I'm a person that's rather... Bored... With how everything is in this city. All this backroom dealings and knives in the back. I wanna spice things up, make things a bit more exciting."

"And how exactly are you going to do that," Elizabeth asks, before you can even get the words out of your mouth.

"Just wait and see," the voice says. "Just wanted you all to know I was out there, and that I am NOT your enemy." There's a click, like a phone being hung up, before the only noise heard is the sound of Elizabeth saying something to you.

"Mike... Mike!"

"I don't know, but tapping a phone line like this is pretty easy for any Force Mage to do. Hell, any Sleeper that knows science and technology can do what this guy just did." She sounds agitated.

"Want me to come home?"

"No, it's just..." She pauses for a moment. "Sorry, I'm used to doing this solo. Yeah, come on home, it's better to talk about this stuff in person."

"I'll see you soon," you say, as you gather up your bag and paperwork. Most of the Johnson paperwork can be reviewed at home anyway, and won't take much time. It won't matter if it's done in the office or at home, and you're sure Joseph won't mind if you say you just want some sexy times with the missus.

So, what are we going to do about Rebecca? I know this is important, but let's not forget about her.
>>
"Uhh... I'm guessing this is you redecorating, or some sort of magical ritual," you say, setting the bag down in your work office.

"The second one," she murmurs out, inspecting the circles and symbols she has taped out on the floor. "Gonna try and do a scrying spell on where our mysterious caller came from, but because all I have to go on is quite literally a few words from him, this's a long shot at best."

"Any way I can help," you call out, shedding the business suit and slipping into a simple t-shirt and cargo shorts.

"A little extra magical juice wouldn't hurt," she says, pointing to a specific spot in the ritual circle. "Put your hands here, gather up any excess Mana you have, and channel it into the circle from here. I'll be able to tap into it and use it with my own internal Mana to strengthen the ritual." She cracks her neck, finishing the final touches on the circle. "Once this starts up, don't touch me under any circumstances, ok?"

You nod in agreement and put your hands where she indicated, gathering up all of your excess magical energy and feeding it into the ritual. The duct tape begins to glow slightly, as Elizabeth enters a meditative state. Nearly an hour passes in complete silence, as you sit there on the ground, feeling the magical energy inside of you supporting the spell. Finally, the glow dissipates, her eyes fluttering open, a look of frustration on her face.

"Nothing?"

"Yeah, sorry."

"Thanks..." She looks out at the lake to the east, gazing over the waves as they slowly wash up onto the shore. "I've just been gone for a whole year, and honestly that's a long time for me..." She pauses, looking back at you. "For the Mystic to not be there to help keep the peace. And after what Gemini's told me about fewer and fewer Mages being left in the city, I'm worried. I thought it was Chrom, but it must be something else."

You pull her in tight, hugging her, bringing a comforting hand to hold her head. "It's ok, we'll figure it out together."

Correct me if I'm wrong: does G3 allow us to acquire a legacy? Because we don't even know a location of a single mana node in the city and a way to regenerate it (without becoming disabled for a day) would be nice.
>>
>>36458981
Gnosis 3 is the prerequisite of the first attainment for all legacies. However, the legacies frequently have other requirements by way of arcana, skills and in the fluff sense - initiation. The latter can be particularly problematic because it can sometimes take years of studying under an existing legacy member.

There's the option of starting a legacy or studying from a tome, but generally legacies only come up in high level games and optimization discussions.

If the ultimate goal is minmaxing, we should probably pick up something like Eyes of Ain Soph for the synergy of getting our worst arcana as a primary (Prime) and having the optional benefits be based off of out best arcana (Spirit). Coincidentally, Eyes of Ain Soph is really good for explorers under magical fire because they specialize in keeping their sight on all the time and warding against/dispelling magic

Once you get up there in gnosis and arcana, ain't much things more powerful than a mage. An archmage can quite literally rewrite reality. An "Imperial rite" can remake the tapestry. Forge a new watchtower, create a "god", make a new splat, alter a fundamental law of physics, you get the picture.

Of course, doing any of that potentially violates the Pax Arcanum. Any given Tetrarch would love to, say, write the Pentacle out of existence. This would require steps that would get every pentacle archmage to set about writing said Tetrarch out of existence in turn. Though just killing his ass before he completes his rite works just as well (and they're damn capable of doing just that).

The bigger the "hack", the bigger the resistance. But the fact that you could even conceivably overwrite reality to fit your desires sets the mage as potentially the most powerful beings in the WoD. There's a reason people tend not to fuck with mages.

Basically, oWoD was like "You have 3 dots in any arcana? Good, you can fuck 'em up good, son". In nWoD they decided to give everyone a saving throw of sorts, and then mortals could soak a shitton of magically-induced damage with their bare attributes. That's why diplomacer/spirit/mind stuff is better than matter/forces etc. especially versus supernatural enemies with the same "power level".

But that's about crunch, fluff-wise after the God-machine mages are not the ones who percieve true reality, not anymore. Demons took their place. Mages can alter everything they want, but they don't carry a torch of cosmic truth in their hands, they are merely appeasing their own relativistic sense of autism\right and wrong (avatars\shards connecting them to the Truth don't exist), which I HATE SO MUCH! MUH DOISSETEP!.

You could say that Mage > all the others, but not at the start or after ~50 xp. At chargen I'd say Demons ~ Werewolves > Mages > Vampires > Mortals.

Yeah fuck God-Machine
Shit rules, completely invalidating Mage lore, tl;dr it a shit

You mean like they did with the transition between oWoD and nWoD? It's a new edition; retcons for everyone!

I dunno, "Call Lightning" is a hella convenient thing to have in your arsenal. Don't use it on promethians, but anybody else and you got a nice way to soften someone up and demoralize them.

Like, say "May God strike down the one who is wrong/evil/ect." and then boom, lightning. Talk about an omen. And few things are more satisfying than burning your foes to cinders and ash on a whim. And hey, free WiFi and radio anywhere on the planet. Forces is still awesome.

Though in the end I guess what they were trying to do in nWoD was to give mere mortals a chance in hell. nWoD Hunter is predicated on that. You ain't got shit really (if you ain't in a conspiracy). Just guns and gumption. Played right you can still take down the local vampire prince, werewolf pack, or seer pylon. Best play it right though, one misstep and they'll kill you like the pest you are to them.

Part of it was making mortals capable of surviving supernatural shit so that you could have players be on the receiving end of it and not get instakilled.
>>
...d'aaw, I'm really glad we rescued the wife. That was some heartwarming shit right there. Also, fuck Chrom, I hope he gets 'befriended' by a Forces Mage in prison, and he shoves a lightning bolt up his ass.

Anyway, I'll push for Spirits 4 as well.

Found this on TVTropes

The Mage Chronicler's Guide mentions reports of Mages awakening to a Supernal Realm unknown to traditional Atlantean cosmology: a world of elemental forces that move with purpose and alien intelligence, called Djinn. These forces can be bargained with— and for those who follow this Path, coerced into doing the Mage's bidding. Mages of the Sixth Watchtower have power over Forces and Spirit, but lack control over Prime.

Elemental Powers
Knife Nut: Some Mages on this path have had success with knives as magical tools.
Sixth Ranger: If implemented by the Storyteller, the Sixth Watchtower can serve as this.

I don't hate the God-Machine lore, but, as the book itself puts it:
>Angels, demons, and the God-Machine form their own system within World of Darkness, and like the world's other systems, they are closed.
There's almost no connections with the main lore in GMC, it doesn't fit the theme very well. I'd play it, but as a standalone game without vampires, werewolves, mages and other WoD stuff.

I found a homeruled version of this one which suits our hero well enough.

>Epikrateia
>Sorcerers on the Path of Mastery; scions of the Watchtower of the Brazen Lamp in the Realm of Mount Qaf, >Kingdom of the Living Elements, Abode of the Djinn.
>Path Attribute: Resolve
>Ruling Arcana: Forces and Spirit
>Inferior Arcanum: Prime
>Nimbus: "Inflaming"
>Tarot: the Emperor
>Common Virtue and Vice: Justice and Wrath
>Existing Legacies: Clavicularius, Tamers of Sands
>New Legacies: Djinn Summoners?
>This is a slightly modified version of the Watchtower of Brass and Flame from the Mage Chronicler’s Guide. I changed the name to conform to the naming scheme used by every other Watchtower (but tried to keep the essence of “Brass and Flame” in the new name), and I changed the Path Attribute from Composure to Resolve to reflect the more forceful personalities I envisioned them having.

I always considered watchtowers a bad idea, though. But that's just me ranting about how Ascension was better in every aspect.

Also, how is it that we already have high speach? Only those who are in the order can take it for free.

Holy crap, why the hell is this still going? Quest ended like 14 hours ago...

Btw anon, I did update exp. table to GMC, so who's to say I won't take things from GMC and use it in the quest?

>This will be pre-God Machine Chronicle, mainly due to my apathy to doing research on it, but if people want me to read up on it I will.

I dunno, GMC content could be spooky&scary with the right atmsophere, but as it was already said, it's better to play it as a standalone adventure.

If people really, truly want to minmax and do Legacies, I will homebrew some up for the quest (ie., you forge your own Legacy).

And we haven't delved into the mystery of the 6th Watchtower due to the pressing issue of rescuing the missus. We'll learn more about it later on
