You are Kracken. Violent, cranky, old, and with a habit of sticking your sensor array where it's not wanted. Below you, in a pale desert city, you managed to stir up trouble again. Amid the pale buildings that are home to the native species and a number of alien visitors you found one of your own.

A Cybertronian. Bound and controlled by the old enemies of your kind.

That would not stand.

A stealthy escape from the Quintessons turned into a brawl with a Decepticon officer as you tried to distract the squids with the hapless but not undeserving Cons. Much as you enjoy a good fight, giant biomechanical centipedes really just weren't doing it for you.

While most of the Cons were busy you took to the sky and engaged in the first aerial duel in your long life, with one of the Seeker elite no less. It was a struggle but you manage to drive her off.

Unfortunately, she called for backup.

Now you soar through the air as fast as your draconian altmode can to catch up to a shuttle where Gyro was now worriedly telling you that a Decepticon Warship was moving into orbit above.

Slowly gaining on the blunt-nosed shuttle you duck fly around a number of other ships, some scrambling to leave the planet, others ignoring everything and continuing with whatever business they were conducting, and listen to Gyro swear over your comm.

"Of all the diode-blowing dim-wittery, you had to pick a fight with the slaggin' Decepticons. Just HAD to stick your rusty old face in every spark-eater nest you could find didn't you?"

"It went well."

"Went well my actuator."

You growl. "They run for now. We did good. Now we leave."

"Leaving's gonna be the hard part." Jackpot cuts in. "The Promise has put the moon between them and the Cons, which means we're in for a long sprint to the finish. They're almost on the other side of the planet. Cons are sure to pick us up on scanners."

"I will deal with them. If they come." You say, the shuttle almost in reach.

"Oh no. You get back on this shuttle, mister."

You want to come up with some kind of escape plan, but your thoughts are slow and cloudy, worse than your other altmode.

>Get in the shuttle, its time to get out of here.
>Ride on top of the shuttle, ready for enemies.
>Keep flying. Your not as fast as the shuttle but it's thrilling.

(It does, I realized my mistake last thread)

Grumbling an affirmative you land on the shuttle. Gripping tight you begin to transform, your whole chassis shrinking as the great wings sprouting from your back snap out then twist, becoming long tentacles that slowly retract into your form.

The drones that had been hovering around you until now finish their work and zip back to their places in compartment at your shoulder blades.

You crawl to the edge of the shuttle and perch over the hatch while the draconic head eases back into your shoulders and slides down to your chest, revealing your original head. The bestial face flattens slightly as it comes to a rest.

You shrink a bit more, the metal of your hull seems to just disappear and the tentacles hanging from your abdomen deflate.

Below you the hatch slides open.

Swinging your tail under you it snaps out and splits. The tentacles that had form its outer casing retract up your legs, rounding out and becoming shorter. You swing over the edge of the shuttle, your legs splitting and twisting back to normal for your landing. You hit the hatch control button, your shoulder armour creeping up to take its place, finishing your transformation.

Once inside the door closes with a hiss. The bot you saved is sitting up now, the beaded poncho pooled at his feet. He looks out of sorts though. Understandable, considering the last few wires from the mind control helm are still sticking out of his head.

From the door leading to the cockpit Gyro is half turned towards you. The lean, brown noble has a look of tired worry on her silver face, one hand gripping to doors' edge tightly.

"What's the plan?"

"There's a small flow of ships moving to the other side of the planet at low altitude so they can blast off away from the Cons. It's a fairly tight stream of them really Jackpot says we should hide among them till we can break away. It'll take about twenty minutes."

"Why not just fly right to the Promise?"

"We could, and I don't doubt the Promise can get away easily. That runs the risk of us getting caught out in the open.

"And if this little convoy gets attacked?" You ask.

She just shrugs.

Frustrated but with no sure way to help you turn to the seated bot. His fuchsia chassis is sleek and gently curved, and judging by the turbine on his back you'd guess he can fly or hover in his altmode. Looking closer you can see that his bright paintjob is marred with dirt, grim and rust. Clearly it has been a while since he had proper maintenance.

"You all right there?" You ask. When he doesn't respond you snap your fingers in front of his face causing a slight flinch.

Crouching down in front of him you place a hand on one of his dome-like shoulders and activate a program connected to your drones. The twin spheres pop out of your back and use your arm as a bridge to drift over to the bot. They circle him for a moment before focusing on his head. They split down their middles and bathe the area in faint blue energy.

After a minute his dull yellow optics brighten and he seems to focus on you.

"Where am I?" His voice is unusual gravely, static pops in his words. He likely hasn't spoken for a long time.

"Among friends. We're gonna get you out of here."

"I-..." Static crackles forth. "Is it safe?"

You are about to lie to him when Jackpots' voice shouts from the cockpit.

"Alright everyone, fingers crossed. Pray to your Primes and keep your lucky numbers in mind. We got Cons incoming over the convoy. Hopefully they won't notice one not-exactly-standard Cybertronian shuttle among all these other custom jobs."

"You mean hopefully they don't have sensors powerful enough to detect us through the ships' armour."

"That too."

"C-co-ons?" The fuchsia bot sound confused.

"Crackpot." You call.

"It's Jackpot!"

"Whatever. What's happening out there?"

"Lemme see. We got two dropships and 'bout a dozen flyers passin' overhead. Behind them is a big Con. Seems like he's hittin' some ships with EMP, knockin' them outa the sky."

"Right." You grunt.

You haul the fuchsia bot to his feet with an, "Up you go.", then bring him to the cockpit.

The two of you, along with Gyro, crowd around Jackpot in pilot seat. Through the windshield you see nearly a dozen ships ahead of you, their sizes ranging from smaller than your shuttle to almost five times the size. Judging by the scanner display there is about another dozen behind.

Small red markers indicate Decepticon flyers zipping about. One screen that sits to the side of the controls gives you a view of behind. You see the boxy silhouette of the dropships. The fly above the convoy with three flyers as escorts. Behind them, flying just above, is a ship with broad wings with turbines under each of them. A large Decepticon insignia decorates its nose.

"How long till they pass us?"

"20 seconds." Jackpot says.

"Right. Keep calm everyone. Gyro put your hand on Jackpots' shoulder."

When she does you grab her hand an command the drones to return from their orbit around the other bots' head.

You focus inwards, on the crackling field that is your spark. You force your will through it, directing the light of your existence to dull and to expand. The energon flowing through you follows suite and your hull darkens and becomes hazy.

Next is the hard part.

With time running out you force the field of haze to expand further, joining it with the energy fields of your companions. It reaches out and finds easy purchase on your befuddled new companion. It washes over and through Gyro with ease as well. When it reaches Jackpot it balks, straining against him. Then you feel Gyros' spark give the field a little boost. It seems she remember a few of the meager lessons you gave her.

>Energon Reserve-95/175

The four of you are now just obscure specters crowding in the shuttles' cockpit.

>Rolled 3 successes!

As the seconds tic by you focus your mind by quietly murmuring an ohm chant.

Through the windshield you see several Decepticon flyers pass by. One transforms and lands on a pale red rust bucket of a ship and does something before jumping off and transforming to resume his hunt.

Not long after that the dropships pass, their insect leg-like thrusters propelling them swiftly behind their soldiers.

Following themis the wide winged Con. When he gets close to the red ship it drifts sideways to come over it. Too late the red ships' crew attempts evasive maneuvers as an electrical pulse connects their ship to the Con for a brief moment. Then their main drive shuts off and the ship drops out of sight.

"Oh Primus." Gyro whispers.

After they pass ships begin peeling away from the convoy, wither heading into space or going off in their own direction. A few of them are harassed by the flyers still zipping around, but none take any severe damage.

"Get us out of here Jackie. Before the Decepticons come back." Gyro urges.

"Decepticons..." The fuchsia bot mutters. "De...cep..." Then his head snaps to attention. His head snaps around to look at you, a look of panic on his face. You scrambles out of your grip and slaps the controls for the shuttles' comms.

"This is Pulsar 9 of Warlord Florons' warband! Please help me my fellow Decepticons! Code delta-four-three-" You slam you fist into he side of his head, stunning him with your shock glove. The bot drops, unconscious.

"What the slag!" Gyro shouts.

"Incoming flyers. None of the big boys are turning around though." Jackpot says.

"Jackpot get us close to another ship. Close enough to swap paint."

"Right-o." He says then swings the controls to the side.

"What are we going to do?" Gyro asks, her slender gun pointed at the bot on the floor.

"We're going to be ready, just in case."

"Just in case? If they find out we're harboring a Con-"

You interrupt her with a raised hand. "I didn't see any insignia on him."

"So?"

"So," You crouch down and roll the bot onto his back, "So I can't imagine the squids going through the trouble of giving this guy a new paintjob. Plus he said Floron. Haven't heard that name since Nominus was Prime."

"You... wait. Floron was one of the old Decepticon Warlords right? From the liberation?"

You nod.

"Something tells me this Con here, isn't allied to the ones out there."

You grab the Con by the arm and haul him up onto your shoulders. You miss whatever Jackpot says but hear Gyro snort while dirty chuckles come from the comms.

"Alright, alright. Now what was that non-sense from before? Delta whatever?" The voice asks.

"Ah, sorry 'bout that. I got a love for Cybertronian audio-drama and my damn pet is walking on the controls."

"Pet?"

"It ah, gets rid of vermin."

"Ew. You should just get a new ship."

"Eh? Yeah hahaaa, right."

"Good luck with your problem germ." The Con says.

The shuttle shakes for a moment and an alarm light starts flashing behind you.

"Slagger strafed us!" Jackpot says. "Buuuut, now he's leaving."

"Good. Get us out of here."

The shuttle manages to leave the convoy without further trouble and the inky blackness of space greets you. The only other object is the dark green moon of Kobol slowly filling the windshields' view.

"Almost there." Jackpot calls back to you.

On one bench the Con lies. You had shocked him again just to make sure he stays down for a bit. On the other bench you sit with Gyro, pondering the wildcard you have acquired.

"What are we going to do with him?" Gyro asks, hunched forward and hands clasped between her knees.

"He was working on a spaceship when I found him. Has tools in his arms. Could be useful."

"But he's a Con."

"I know."

Your can't just execute him, that would be wrong. So...

>We'll keep him locked up like Swindle. We'll talk to Cogsworth and see what he thinks.

"Honour? Really? I thought they were all psycho warrior cults or something."

"Some yeah. The famous ones. Some weren't that bad though: Floron, Dery, Devron, Pinoy. They weren't like Straxxus, or Ghoulon. Once the Quintessons were no longer a threat they just consolidated their territories."

"Huh. I think I remember a planet called Floron."

"Yep." You say and rest an elbow on your thigh. "If I remember correctly Floron was better than most at building infrastructure."

"He was still killed by Nova Prime, like almost all the others."

You grunt in acknowledgement. "Nova wanted all Cybertronians united under one rule. Not bowing under dozens of dictators."

"And Straxus?"

"Last of the ancients. Maybe." You say and gesture towards the unconscious Con. "He got away with it, and on Cybertron no less, because Darkmount is home to some nasty weapons from the mythic age. If he couldn't have his little slice of Cybertron, no one could have any."

"And your saying this bot could be one of those ancients."

"Yeah. Maybe. Look whatever else this bot deserves some respect. If he's trouble... we'll dump him somewhere."

A moment of silence passes.

"Sorry." You grunt, low and barely audible.

"Hmm?" Gyro turns to look at you with a raised optic brow.

"I have a knack for trouble. Been dragging you into it since we met."

She shrugs and leans back. "Eh. Cartography and finances get boring after a few thousand years."

The rest of the flight is uneventful and quiet, except for Jackpot beatboxing and drumming on the flight controls.

Upon arriving on the Novas' Promise you are greeted by Cogsworths' bodyguard and a request from the ships' master for a debriefing.

You leave it to Gyro and take the Con to Medbay. A stark white affair with a pair of patient tables and a single CR chamber set into the wall. A medibot drone dangle from the ceiling, its greeting monotonous.

Standing in front of the CR chamber you recall Kaamos and awakening in the dark and cold.

It is not a pleasant memory but that doesn't matter. You place the Con inside and activate it, the door slides down and a faint blue light come on inside. Through the observation window you see the Con begin to float as it floods with nanobots.

You grunt, sure that he will get a more thorough fixing this way, then head off.

Leaving the Medbay you decide to check on Glitch. See if they're any less... glitchy this time around.

A quick check of a wall mounted computer panel shows you they're in the hanger you just left. You decide to take your time, meandering through the corridors. Bands of holographic imagery flicker along the walls. Images of alien frontiers turn to stock market figures which turn to news broadcasts from Galactic Council networks. You catch one image of Tyrest, his broad mantled shoulders and his danger looking star shaped helm easy to recognize. He's shaking hands with...

You pause in shock.

A Vestial. One of the actual Vestials and not one of their vassal races. Nearly as tall as the Chief Justice, but far, far thinner, its lower body is hidden by red cloth while its upper torso is a bright brass. It has four arm, two on each side and one protruding from its chest, the middle being the one doing the shaking. The other four are folded at its sides like skeletal wings.

The head is what tells you its a Vestial. A single bright red optic rest in the middle of a spherical head with an array of specialized optics around it. The specialized optics each glow a different colour and they seem to move, extending, retracting and angling in odd ways.

The scrolling text on the screen says something about a cease-fire having been negotiated, but then it loses itself in names and the official titles attached to those names.

Growling you stalk off to find the hanger.

Arriving, you find the shuttle in a state of repair. A broad piece of its outer hull lays on the floor. The blue metal is scorched and melted in a long line across it. A parting gift from the Decepticons, you guess.

Behind that rests the shuttle and you see Glitch rooting around in the innards of its exposed side.

Leaving the mechanic to they're work you take a seat against the wall. Your servos whine softly as they come to a rest and your pistons hiss a sound you feel more than hear.

Watching the bot is somewhat of a marvel. Their hands move swiftly and surely; cutting, welding and tearing at the ships' circuitry. Every now and then bright blue sparks light up their hull.

After letting your processor wind down for an hour you see Glitch hop to the floor. Their blast shield is up, covering their face in a thick black screen. With it up their white upper chassis looks like an egg. Spindly arms and shoulders stick out the sides and their pelvis and legs jut from the bottom, equally as thin.

They freeze as they see you, then raise an oily hand in greeting.

You nod.

"How have you been?" You ask.

"Very well, thank you." Their voice is still raspy and nervous.

"Sorry 'bout the shuttle." You say while standing. "Things got kind of out of hand."

"So how bad is it?" You ask.

"How bad is what?"

You point past Glitch to the shuttle. They give a startled oh.

"Not too bad I hope."

"No not at all. A small section of the outer hull needs replacing, the blasts fused a maintenance hatch closed. Other than that some of the more delicate sensor systems were fried, which caused minor surges in several circuits. This one has pulled out and replace most of the wiring directly under the impact sites."

"That's it? Guess I shouldn't have worried about those pop guns the Cons were touting."

"It is not a matter to take lightly. With the sensors disrupted, collision detection on the one side was lowered by nearly 20%! A bot of size similar to this one could have stood on the hull gone completely undetected. If they didn't move around too much."

"Alright. And you've got it all sorted out?"

"Mostly. New hardware need to be retrieved from the workshop to replace the damage circuits, then they must be installed." The blast shield recedes into their hull and you can finally see their slim silver face. "After that a complete diagnostics must be run, as well as routine calibrations."

You nod.

"Your pretty good with machines." You say. Thankfully they don't fidget at your compliment.

"Seems like that's a lot of stuff to carry." You say while eying the pile of burnt electronics sitting on the floor. It's a neat pile wires all bundled and circuit boards stacked evenly. "How about I lend you a hand?"

"That would no be necessary. There is a cart in the workshop that we use for such things."

"I insist." You manage a grin.

"A-all right."

On the way to the workshop you get Glitch talking about the shuttle again. You learn about its specs, both the original model and this upgraded version, its tolerances, and some history behind the manufacturer.

Glitch apparently has a great love for space going vessels as you also get a basic summary of the Promise and other ships of its make as well. They completely lose you once they start talking about the hyperspace drive but seem to notice and move the topic to a number of upgrades and modification they were planning on, pending Cogsworths' approval.

"I'm impressed. You really know your stuff."

They beam at that.

"You really got a love for ships eh?"

"Oh yes! Any vessel capable of traversing the void is wondrous. Space is such a complex environment. Astronavigation is incredibly difficult and ships use such brilliant technology to accomplish it!"

You chuckle. "I'm... kind of curious now. Why were you where you were, instead of flying through the cosmos."

A moment of silence passes.

"One could wonder similar things of you." Glitch says at length.

You grunt. "I seriously doubt you were rusting in Uraya for the same reasons I was."

"This one does not remember."

"No?" You ask, looking at them sidelong.

One they don't reply an awkward silence falls until the workshop door comes into view.

"Well who needs the past." You say. "We have the future ahead. It hold whatever mess we slog into next, along with inversion couplings to put on hyper drive manifolds."

They laugh softly at that. "Inversion coupling don't go on the hyper drive."

"That's why your the mechanic, and I'm just the bot who smashes things."

With Glitch laughing you press the workshop doors' open button. The door hisses open and your greeted by the sight of the fuchsia Con, tangled up in ceiling cables while dangling from a hole above him.

Your growl of annoyance grabs the Cons' attention and his head swings to glare at you.

"In the name of liberty and freedom, hrrg, I will not be imprisoned!"
