The fight should be over. And you didn't do a thing.

You feel still groggy and light-headed, like you had the sleep of your life.

You didn't. It wasn't a restful sleep. You had visions. You talked to the Sun in your dreams. Or maybe, you just dreamed about that, but, in any case, it wasn't a restful sleep. Bit by bit, as you wake up completely from the trance, you begin to feel tired again, as if you never had that nap in the first place.

And, you wake up with more questions and doubts than you had when you dozed off.

Amata is napping on a chair next to your bed, a red-and-white blanket thrown on her shoulders. She looks like she's really enjoying her sleep, her mouth half-open as she snores slightly.

Your sixth sense (and also your stomach) tells you that it must be late evening. By now, the battle for Black Atoll should be over. The others should be back soon... If everything worked fine.

You hope it did.

> Just wait. Try and get some actual, restful rest.
> Wake up Amata, ask her to contact the others with Sorcery.
> Wake up Amata, talk about something (what?)
> Stand up, stretch, take a walk around the ship.
> (other?)

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She was in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.
You just discovered the reason everyone seems to be so interested in Tianna: an enormous magical fortress lies buried underground, a relic of the First Age with enough firepower to destroy anything...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Still at 3/5. Since you got kicked down to 0 Health, recovery is slower than normal healing.
Think of it as a Quest-equivalent mechanic to Aggravated damage, if you know the tabletop rules.

Also, I originally meant to have going to 0 Health and recovering leaving a permanent scar, even on the Exalted. It would normally happen, but the damage that took you down was mostly crushing and internal, leaving no scar.

Tryong to not wake up Amata, you stand up from the bed. Your bones and muscles sting and ache, and for a moment you have the uncomfortable feeling of having tiny steel needles driven through your joints.

You clench your teeth and leave that damn bed. Some of your bandages come undone: your skin is pink and fresh, and feels sensible and tingles in reaction to the exposure to the colder, fresh air around you. The healing salve Zaan used on those wounds has been completely absorbed, it seems.

You still look like a patchwork of burn marks, but it's much less noticeable now: you're slowly returning, you imagine, to your normal, original, uniform coloration. Honestly, sometimes your own body scares you.

Should you try tying back up your own bandages as they come undone, or remove them entirely? You should probably also get something to wear... and you have no idea what. All your stuff was on the Gloria.

>Remove your bandages, they did their work. They're just getting in the way now.
>You don't want Zaan or the others to yell at you. Try and tie them mack the way they were.

Combines with:

>Wrap your blanket around yourself like a toga
>Search around the room for some clothes
>Leave the room silently. You don't want to risk waking up Amata. Look for clothes somewhere else.

You wrap yourself up in your blanket, feeling a shiver of artificial cold from your raw, exposed skin, and silently sneak out of the room without disturbing Amata.

Closing the door behind you with slow, careful movements, you inspect your own bandages closer. Yeah, they're pretty dirty, but you have no idea where to find new ones, so you'll have to change them later. For now, you try and tie them back down in place to protect your burns.

Mental + Twilight = 7 5 10 1 6 = 3 successes

After fixing them in pretty much (you think) the same way they were before and are supposed to be, you take a walk around the ship's underdeck.

This must be one of the vessels from Tianna's navy: you don't recognize it at all.
It has a small hold and a few rooms (you suppose you've been put in the captain's room or something similar).

If you remember correctly, this type of ship should be a galley, powered by a mix of sails and rowers. From one of the doors you hear some lively noises of people chatting and partying and playing games, so you suppose that that must be the rower's... room? (You're not sure what the real name of that section of ship is supposed to be. Seamen seem to have specific names for every small part of their ships.)

On the other side, a stairwell leads, you presume, to the top deck.

Also, no clothes to be found here.

How is that interesting enough for you to commission artwork? Without Exalt elements it's a generic photo of two people, albeit scantly clad.

You enter the rower's room, and the conversations immediately fall silent as everyone turns to you.

There are about a dozen seamen, all wearing some variation of Tianna's naval uniform. Which is not a particularly fancy thing, just consisting of a blue jacket with some white and black highlights. Some are dirty or torn, or had the sleeves removed or replaced. Some unbuttoned, some just shirtless or wearing something else and keeping the jacket draped on the shoulders or tied around the waist. Not a big show of uniformity, but you wouldn't expect that from a crew in a warzone. This isn't a naval review, after all.

You used to think that galleys were all driven by slaves, but actually, Tianna (and a lot of other places) has professional seamen, which are also part of the crew, rotate between rowing and ship-handling, and act as marines during boarding and counter-boarding operations. These men, in fact, seem well-trained and are almost all armed with swords, cutlasses, axes and other small, portable melee weapons. Some have bits of armor on them, either chain or a breastplate, and a couple have helmets.

Some were drinking, others were playing cards or just chatting. They seemed pretty relaxed, probably celebrating the victory (if you've won: they might know already, if Amata contacted the strike force while you were in trance), or just killing time and being happy they avoided the fight.

These twelve men are too few to man every rowing space on the ship. You imagine this boat was left with a skeleton crew.

"...Sorry, I hope I'm not getting in the way." You apologize, entering the room. "Am I disturbing?"

"N- No, we, we weren't doing anything." They all seem a bit nervous, but the way you made your entrance made them more relaxed than they would otherwise be, being caught slacking off by their soon-to-be queen who is also an Exalted and an Anathema, and barely decent.

"It's alright, I have no idea what's going on." You smile at someone who seemed undecided whether to start hiding the cards and cash piled in front of him or not, and nod at him relaxedly. He loosens up a bit. "Is that Starseed or Startree?"

"Uh?" He looks down at the cards, taking him a moment to realize that you're talking to him. "Y- you know how to play Startree?"

"A little bit. I know three guys who play Scientific Startree on their time off." You sit down next to him, and the others in his small group shuffle a bit awkwardly to make space for you.

"Oh. Scientific Startree is for crazy people and professional gamblers... we just play Starseed. None of that extra-hands, extra-card-draws, passes-changing-direction-every-turn bullshit." For a moment he seems to worry that maybe he shouldn't have used a bad word in your presence, but he realizes he doesn't seem to mind.

Everyone's handling you with gloves and walking on eggshells around you. Well, what can you do other than try and make them comfortable?

"I don't have money on me anyway, so just keep playing and ignore me. I'm still learning the rules, I'll just watch for now."

They nod, and slowly go back to playing normally. Someone hands you a small wooden cup full of rum. The atmosphere slowly turns back to lively.

"Any news from the strike force?" You try asking.

(cont.)
>>
"We lost the flagship." One of the players replies, somberly, as he draws a new card as his start-of-turn move. "The other ships are picking up survivors. Admiral Hazaakaa's still missing in action."

"Queen Amata contacted them?" You ask.

"One of those barbarians with them is a Sorceror. He sent some kind of little messenger spirit to us with a report." Another one explains, evidently talking about Zaan. He gives you an odd look. "...Are you a Sorceror too?"

The correct term should be "sorceress", but no sense correcting him. Instead, you shake your head. "I don't have the slightest idea how sorcery work myself."

He throws down a good hand with a grin - three Elephants, all five Seasons and three Flowers, and the Eight Winds, and the others groan and throw their cards down. He sweeps in the handful of cowries on the plate.

"But, in general, it seems like the battle was won."
"Man, I hope they murdered the FUCK out of the Lintha."

You nod. "Can't argue with that."

"Will we get a divvy of the loot even though we weren't there?"
"I'm not sure the others will get a share either. We're not pirates, Areen. Get that into your thick skull."
"But maybe they'll get a bonus. What about us?"
"Well, on the other side, we didn't get shot at. I'm fine with it."

"If Rajan's fine, he'll handle it." You try and reassure them. "You did your job, and he'll keep it in mind, even if it wasn't a frontline job."

"And if he isn't?"

"Well, then Queen Amata would become also commander of the fleet until she gives the commission to someone else. You won't be forgotten, in any case."

You spend some time with the crew, downing a few drinks and learning how to play Statree and Starseed. The crew eventually warms up to you, not seeing you as some weird inhuman monster to be avoided. Which is nice.

After a while, you return to your room. As you enter, you hear the last howling, energetic noises of Sorcery going off, and a glow of blue Essence hovering around Amata. Your sudden entrance startles her, so much that she actually trips and falls down face-first with a loud cry.

"...Amata?!" You rush in to try and help her back on her feet, but she stays down, face planted on the floor. You guess she must be really defenseless and unguarded while using her magic.

You've never seen Amarta show you a weak side like this.

She seems to realize how uncool that must have looked, you presume. She stays frozen on the ground, sighing.

"...Some on, stand up." You stifle a giggle.

Bit by bit, the glow of magic around her disappears. "...That must have looked incredibly uncool." She wimpers, finally rolling around on her back and accepting your hand offered in assistance.

You pull her up. "I won't say anything."

"I... I don't like people seeing me when I use sorcery." She mumbles. "You caught me completely by surprise."

"...Sorry. I wasn't thinking." You apologize.

"...Why are you so defensive about magic?" You have to wonder.

She shrugs, almost shivering. "...I feel defenseless. When you're conjuring magic, you have to follow very specific movements. It's like... you know, maybe it's just my own paranoia, but sorcery feels like something very personal. It's... Like being seen while showering, or while undressing, or while sleeping, things that feel very personal. Plus..."

She's lowering her voice, and you lean in closer to listen.

"...Well, you know how sorcery works? to earn the right to use it, you have to pass five trials. One of them is to face your darkest fears. Another is to sacrifice something important to you."

"I... see."

"Please don't ask me about those. Let's just say... that every time I use Sorcery, I'm reminded of what I've faced, and what I've lost. And it makes me uncomfortable. So... For these, and other reasons, I just like to be alone when I use sorcery."

You nod.

"What spell was that, anyway?"

"Another Infallible Messenger. They're almost here. I transmitted them our position so that they know where to rendezvous with us."

As she finishes her sentence, a brilliant flash of blue light erupts between you, taking the shape of a small, body-less flicker.

You just have the vague image of a pair of ethereal, dragonfly-like wings made from pure light in hues and shades of blue, aqua, teal, cyan and green. The flicker lazily spreads its wings, and transmits, in Mikahil's voice:

"Alright. We'll see you there, then, in about four hours."

Then, it disappears.

"...That was the reply." She explains. "The spell lets whoever receives the message answer it immediately." She smiles. "Incidentally, why did you leave your bed?"

"I was bored." You admit."

"Walking around wearing nothing but a blanket and bandages." She groans. "I'm amazed you didn't give some sailors a heart attack."

I wonder how far up the ladder we are going to push our twilight. I heard that its better to stay at the Celestial Circle rather then go all the way to Solar Circle.
>>
>>36502270
A sorcerer in creation has to pass five trials or called five ordeals in order to be able to learn sorcery.
Humility, need to learn "humility", which really just means understanding your limits
Tutelage, need to find a teacher
Journey, you have to wander for a while
Fear, you have to face and master your greatest fear
Sacrifice, where you have to give up something of value
>>
>>36502285
>all the way to Solar Circle.
well, you need to be Essence 5 to get it. I wonder how EF will represent that
>>
>>36502290
>Fear, you have to face and master your greatest fear
Honestly because it does specify MASTER i'd say if Amata is still hung up on that AT ALL (instead of JUST hung up on sacrifice) then she didn't actually pass her fourth trial
>>
>>36502330
She must have passed her fourth trial because she can cast sorcery.
>>
>>36502330
"Master" is probably only meant for the moment or something similar.
Obviously she must have passed by whatever standards are applied, otherwise she couldn't use sorcery.
>>
>>36502344
>>36502332
it's a passive aggressive "exaltedfag you fucked up" you silly gooses
>>
>>36502354
It's more of a "we have different interpretations of canon if this is intentional, is it?"
>>
>>36502354
Or its just a anon that isn't familiar with the setting and doesn't know you literally can't cast sorcery if you don't pass.
>>
>>36502369
very unlikely
>>
>>36502363
It doesn't require much of a different interpretation, White Treatise says it requires "a act of courage" which means it suffices if you overcome your fear in that moment, how well you cope with the trial afterwards isn't relevant.
>>
>>36502390
I feel that goes against the spirit of it.
That's like sacrificing something and afterwards immediately getting it back or erasing your memory of the journey.
Sure, by RAW it would work, but you're supposed to learn something and gain some sort of cosmic insight from the trials.
>>
>>36502390
In that case then it's inconsistent between different sources, because what >>36502285 says is mastering it, and if the fear still significantly effects you afterward than you haven't mastered your damn fear.
>>
>>36502405
>but you're supposed to learn something and gain some sort of cosmic insight from the trials
Who knows?
Again, the Trials don't intend anything. They just work how they do, how and why they happen is pretty much open to the ST.
You can just as well think the point might be to prove that you can overcome your fears to do something when it comes down to it, not all the time, but in important moments, which would completly sufice for learning sorcery.
>>
>>36502422
No its not, you just have a different interpretation of what masterin your fear implies than the guy who wrote that.

And even if Amata did overcome that fear, the experience itself can still be harrowing.
>>
>>36502422
Mastering your fear doesn't mean you don't have that fear anymore, it just means you are consistently capable of acting despite that fear.
You can still have it.
>>
"In any case, I need some fresh bandages."

"How are your wounds, by the way?" She asks, standing up and rummaging a bit around the room, in cupboards and drawers.

"Improving." You mumble, dropping your blanket on the bed and slowly undoing your bandages. "My bones aren't screaming anymore, and my skin feels funny and uncomfortable but not painful."

"I'm sure plenty of people must've told you already, and you can certainly realize it by yourself, but your constitution and healing speed are downright terrifying." She starts pulling bundles of tightly rolled-up white bandages from a wooden box she found, which seems to contain some sort of first-aid kit. "When we picked you up, you didn't have an intact bone in your body. That was, what? barely three days ago. You're healing broken bones in hours."

You nod, not sure of how to reply, as you remove the last of your bandages. She giggles, looking up to you. "I'm sorry, but you look like a pinto version of yourself."

You groan. "Yeah, I know."

She begins to wrap you up carefully. "Keep in mind, I'm no medic." She warns you beforehand.

"We can still do a bit of patient and nurse play if you'd like~" You tease her.

She grins, giving your wraps a tight pull that sends a jolt of pain down your spine. "Ow! Ow!"

"My, this is a serious case." She hums. "The patient won't shut up and keeps annoying the nurse... whatever should I do?"

"Well, I might have a few suggestions on how to calm the patient down...

You spend a very pleasurable four hours in bed with Amata, until the time when the rest of your force is supposed to arrive.

When you begin to feel the crew of the ship going back to work and running around the ship to man their stations, you also leave your bed and wrap yourself up in the blanket, heading topside.

Amata isn't in any condition to join you, unfortunately, but you manage to get a spare jacket in the style of Tianna's naval uniforms from the crew, and wrap up the blanket around your waist and tie it down like an oversized long skirt.

The rest of the fleet is sailing towards you, emerging from the night, with full sails, the decks crowded with jubilant crewmen, and your own ship's crew responds in kind.

You idly notice the ship's mainmast lying down on the deck, tied down with ropes to keep it from rolling overboard after Tia broke it.

...You guess you have to be glad that she didn't think of breaking every single oar on board.

One of the ships is the damaged Gloria, and really in a terrible condition, sails tattered, one flank almost entirely shriveled up by Lintha curses, and the clear signs of cannonball impacts along the hull. It's a testament to Valeriana's skill as an engineer that it's still afloat.

From its deck, Mikahil waves wildly to you as soon as he sees you, then leaps across a large stretch of water, landing gracefully next to you.

He flashes you a smile of greeting, but he immediately frowns casting a worried glance at the broken mast. "Lintha?"

"Tia." you shrug. "How is she?"

Out of the blue, a large grey vulture comes down sweeping from the night sky, carrying a large brown cloth bag in its claws. It drops the bundle hurriedly on the deck, then leaps at you, turning into Tia in mid-air in a flying hug.

"MAKAAA! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!"

"...It's been a day, Tia." You groan. "Barely a day."

"Are you hurt? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." You exchange a quick kiss with her. "How did things go?"

"Tia went all-out." Mikahil says, clearly still impressed. "I've seen some Exalted fights, but nothing like that. She punched the fortress into rubble. With one punch. I didin't even think you could DO that."

"With enough love, everything is possible." Tia grins, squeezing you like you're about to disappear any moment now.

"Tia?"

"I'm replenishing my Makanium supply."

Now all ships in formation, your joined fleet changes course, heading back to Tianna.

It feels weird to have won without fighting the battle yourself. You almost feel like someone left out of the loop.

"...How's Rajan?" You ask Mikahil. It took you a moment to realize, in the dark of the night, but he seems to be wounded as well: his clothes are half-burned, and soaked with blood. You see some large, deep cuts, still fresh, one on his right shoulder, almost down to the bone, and one stabbing between ribs.

"We don't know." He replies, concerned as well. "He was hit by an energy blast. That jade chainmail cloak you gave him exploded in a million bits absorbing the impact, and he was flung off far into the ocean like a rag doll."

"Energy blast?" You scratch your head.

"The Lintha had some magical artillery too, probably stolen from a Realm ship. He took a shot square in the chest. I've never seen anything like it... he even bounced off the surface of the water twice, like a skipping stone."

"...Could he be still alive?"

"Maybe. I don't know. It seems unlikely." He sighs. "Five Tails is searching for him, but the ocean is pretty damn huge. Still, he's a Water-aspect, so he might have survived underwater... I mean, if the blast and the impact didn't kill him right away, he's not going to drown, at least."

There is actually no evidence to support that, the ghost didn't try to say or plant anything incriminating the other deathlord, it didn't say much at all.

It's more likely coincidence it attacked when we had the truce than a deliberate direct conspiracy.
>>
Rolled 8 (1d10)

>>36503105
Amata herself said that's probably what that motherfucker was doing. So did Phoenix. It's a transparent and obvious ploy - have a single ghost attack while we're trying to establish a ceasefire with a deathlord in order to sabotage that truce. To suggest that wasn't his plan is like someone shooting an arrow with a note on it next to you and you assuming the arrow was intended to kill you rather than deliver a message just because it was an arrow.

Either way, if/when there is an attack we'll want to do some investigating to determine who is really attacking

You think about it. "...can we leave a ship or two behind, to look for him? I don't think even a crazy bastard like him can swim back to shore."

"...it'll slow us down a bit, we'll have to shuffle the loot and some of the crew around, but we can leave two undamaged ship behind. I think he deserves that much." He admits.

"How long will we lose?"

"A hour? something like that, if we have us Exalted helping with moving the stuff around."

"Can you take care of it?"

He nods.

"...What about other losses?"

"...The Lord of Waves, Tianna's flagship, was sunk in the first minutes of combat. We saved someone, but it went down with 40 crewmen."

You let him continue.

"Over the course of the fight, we lost about as many again, split between navy, pirates and barbarians.

"Adding everything up with the losses on the Gloria... about a hundred dead?"

"I don't feel like counting." He mumbles.

"I don't, either, but I must. It's a leader's duty to keep track of this sort of things." You reply. "And since I stood out of the fight..."

"Don't feel guilty for that. We all agreed to leave you out of it."

"I'm not blaming myself, or anyone. Sometimes..."

"...Yeah... sometimes, it just happens." Mikahil says. "Yes. About a hundred."

"Was a hundred lives a good price for getting rid of the Lintha?"

Mikahil doesn't reply. That's a question only you can find the answer of.

This is probably a good idea. The Lintha might be good at keeping gods in line but they're shit at making friends with them. The local deities are probably very happy to see them gone, and are probably perfectly willing to give us a boost home in return.
The Storm Mothers are a problem, though we might be a bit lucky to be wounded in that respect. They hate the beautiful most, and right now we look like a burn victim. That probably cancels our Exalted hotness out back into just "particularly sexy mortal" territory.

"...So, what did these hundred lives buy us?" you ask Mikahil.

"Enough to keep the men's morale that high despite the losses." He answers, pointing at the deck of a nearby ship, where the sailors are singing and making a racket so loud you can hear it from here.

"Good loot?"

"Amazing." He nods. "Those Lintha picked up everything. Copper, iron, silver and gold, chiaroscuran glass, antengan ivory, haltan hardwood, gemstones and jewelry, barrels of salt, rum, sake and brandy, bolts of silk and cotton, dyes and tinctures, rare spices, exotic goods and wyld trinkets, Coral Archipelago bonds and obligations, jade ore and tokens, and a mountain of cash in jade coin and scrip, silver coinage, and cowries."

"That much? I thought this was just a secondary base."

"It is, but my guess is that they just keep stealing stuff over the years and never ferry it back to their main haven in the southern sea."

"Why?" You wonder.

He shrugs. "Beats me. Maybe they're competing? Trying to go independent? Some other internal, political issue? In any case, for us, it just means that they had several decades' worth of massed loot there."

"Does this solve all of our cash problems?" You ask, expectantly.

"Not quite all of them. But." A sly grin forms on his lips.

"That smile. What are you thinking?" You ask the Eclipse.

"You see, seeing all this money together gave me an idea."

"Do tell."

Yes, meanwhile Tia is still latched on to you. Recharging her batteries.

"I know you already have plans, and you already spent some of this money on the Manse, the foundation of Pearl, and to pay for the prospection and mining of ores on Tianna." Mikahil explains. "So, here's my proposal: We take that out of the pile, plus a bonus for the soldiers with us and pensions for the wounded and the families of the dead. That still leaves a pretty big pile of cash."

"How much would that be?"

"About... twenty-thousand red cowries."

"That's a lot." You're still struggling with the cowry system the West uses, but a red cowrie is about a pound of silver.

That's... over nine thousand kilograms of silver. That's a large amount of money even for the standards of the Queen of Gem.

"If you'll let me have it, and you and Tia come on a small adventure with me, I can turn that into one million red cowries in two weeks."

"One million red cowries." You repeat. That number is so stupidly huge that it means absolutely nothing to you. You can't put it into any perspective you can understand. You try to mentally convert it in pounds, trip over the numbers, and lose track. "You ARE going to crash the Western economy."

"Well, only until you don't get your hands back on Gem's treasury.Once you do, give me a season and I'll crash it everywhere." He smiles. "But that's long term planning."

"Most of the money in the West orbits around the Coral Archipelago. First, I plan on converting all these knickknacks into solid cash, either cowry or silver. And making a good profit with that."

"Alright, that sounds pretty normal. Where does the crazy part come in?"

"We use some of that money to pay expenses for the lavish visit of the Queen of Gem herself."

You narrow your eyes.

"Of course, the Queen of Gem is the stereotypical vapid noble chick with more cash than common sense."

"Hey."

"So, when they find out that her chamberlain, yours truly, has a plan to con the vapid bitch out of her cash, every pirate, brigand and cutthroat of the archipelago will want to have a part in it. Especially when word goes around that recently a pirate boarded a ship carrying jewels from Gem, and she's so outraged that she intends to use all her cash and influence to buy, and destroy, as many government-issue pirating licenses as possible, to reduce the number of sailors that can assault ships while still enjoying the protection of the Coral government."

"...That would send then in a panic. They'd all band together against me."

"And the price of those licenses would spike, since they're a reliable source of income and a much-coveted good, and people will have the perception of a sudden scarcity so everyone will want to buy one before they all disappear from the market."

"But the only one who will benefit from that price hike is the government, or whoever actually has a pirating license to sell. We don't have any."

"That's why we need Tia."

You look at Tia, who has fallen asleep with her chin planted on your shoulder. "Why does Tia have pirating licenses to sell?"

"All heist plans must rely on a bit of muscle at a certain point." He shrugs. "We use the cash to buy as many licenses as possible with one hand, and with the other, we steal the ones already owned. We corner the most lucrative market in the West: the pirating business. We bring the Coral Archipelago to its knees and make our own rules."

He looks inordinately proud.

"At that point, we have three choices. One: we keep the pirate license business intact, and over the next, say, ten years or so we make that famous million red cowries off that market."

"Two?"

"...Two, we crash the entire system. No more licenses, no more government-sanctioned piracy. Pirates go back to being either privateers or outlaws, and we cash in on this crash. That will net us about a hundred thousand red cowries."

"One.tenth of your famous million."

He nods. "Then I take that money and challenge Plentimon, god of gambling, to the mother of all card games, for a payoff of ten to one"

That's so insane you're not sure how to respond. Finally, you manage to put together an answer: "And... you're so sure that you'll win against the GOD of GAMBLING because...?"

Coral will almost certainly, sooner or later, make new licenses. But Privateer Marques are valid to whomever holds them. Stealing them from someone else makes yours just as much as buying it. It's like the marque to be a Rogue Trader.

In the short term, though, you end up with TONS of pirates who are no longer legal privateers, collapsing Coral's pirate economy - which is its main source of income. And Coral probably won't be able to issue new marques affordably enough to salvage their economy - not to mention the fact that after that scandal, the stability of their economy and government will be suspect enough that a marque will no longer have the same cultural/economic power as it once did.

Basically, it's like crashing the US Dollar. It fucks the country, and we make out like bandits, as Coral's left to try to hopefully maybe pick up the pieces.

After having the last few words with Mikahil about how to handle the fleet up until your return. you manage to get Tia off your back and make plans to offer a big prayer to the local sea god for a speedy return.
Time is precious right now, with your truce expiring... just about now, and you still out at sea.

You'll have to change out of this jacket and improvised long skirt made from a blanket and wear something appropriate for the occasion.

You jump off to the Fell-Star, exchange a few words with Yohannes Quint (he took an arrow to the thigh, but is overall fine and satisfied with the action), and meet with Valeriana, who is currently having tea with Irene and chatting about... you have no idea what, honestly. You're lost.

But the tea is good, and, after a few minutes, you manage to get a few words in.

"Actually, it might not be exactly your specialty, but I was wondering if you could make me a dress."

Valeriana sets down the teacup, surprised. "A dress?"

Irene sighs. "Man, Maka goes through clothes like... I dunno. I can't think of a fitting hyperbole. But, a lot."

"I noticed." The Twilight giggles. "You know, I could make you nearly-indestructible clothes."

"...I thought you were an engineer, an architect, inventor... not a tailor."

She shrugs. "Technically I am, but Charms are funny things. I've found out, since I Exalted, that I've gotten good to a lot of artisan crafts that i never really practiced, trained, or even thought I knew anything about. I'm willing to give it a try. Our loot includes a lot of silk, cotton and precious fabric, right?"

Irene nods. "I'm more of a hardware type of person, but maybe I can give you a hand. What should we do?"

"Mh." Valeriana mumbles, looking at you. "Any suggestions?"

You follow Valeriana and Irene to the cargo hold, where they start rummaging around in boxes and boxes full of bolts of cloth in various colors, while explaining to them your idea.

You kind of have the feeling that they're just half-listening to you: they're bouncing ideas off each other. You can barely get some words in.

"Maybe we could use this and this, and use this for the hem. Have something that will show off Maka's rocking tits."

"Well, that's a given, but should it be short or long?"

"I was thinking of something flowy-"

"Ooh, let's add, like, a head veil, or a hood."

"Look hos slim and shiny this silk is. It's practically see.through."

"I- I don't know. I was think-"

"It's sexy but Maka is about to be a mom and a queen, she needs to change her style to be a bit more dignified."

"Well, we could use it only for this part here."

"Hey, where are you touch-"

"And how about we make it go down to here, like this? Can you make it do that?"

"I can try! Irene, you get some foundation in Maka's skin color to hide her burn marks. Let's get her out of these bandages."

"Wait-"

Seeing Valeriana work is mesmerizing.

As her Castemark blazes into view, spreading soft golden light in the cargo hold, you see her pull bolts of fabric together and just sewing them to each other by passing a finger over their surface. She fixes buttons simply by pressing them lightly in the material, and cuts it by tugging at it and having it magically come apart right where she needs it to.

The two of them hide your scars (which has already almost vanished) and apply a bit of make-up to you, then just wrap the fabric around you and start working on you like a mannequin. You see a long, flowing white and yellow dress take shape around you, hours or days of work condensed in minutes. Throughout the process, Irene lets Valeriana do her job and just assists her with suggestions or giving an extra hand to hold something down.

They both seem to be enjoying themselves very much.

Once the dress is finished, Valeriana touches it, and both it and her castemark flash bright gold for a few seconds.

"There." She says, standing back, looking satisfied.

"Thank you." You smile. "Now-"

"Wait, let me do another one." She stops you.

"...uh?"

"Use my design now!" Irene suggests, enthusiastically.

"Sure!" She replies, pulling the dress off you and grabbing a fresh bolt of cloth. "Stand still now."

I'll be disappointed if there aren't any holy charms on the list .

Any charm that allows us to dish out aggravated damage against Abyssials, Demons and other CoD is worth getting.
>>
>>36505005
>delicious brown girl
She's actually incredibly pale for someone from as far South as Gem. Many people down there have skin that's literally black, and that's without getting into more exotic elemental traits that tend to crop up down there, like glowing eyes or smoking breath. Maka is, by comparison, a delicate and pale Northern-looking person.
>>
>>36505029
What would be the equivalent in the quest since it doesn't have Agg damage exactly, just extra damage only against CoDs?

I mean I guess technically our Banish the Darkness could count as Holy, sorta
>>
>>36505057
Banish the Darkness is definitely Holy.

But yes, extra damage or armor ignore or bonus dice - anything that gives conditional bonuses only against CoDs is Holy.

godfuckdamnit i hate everything forever.

>>
>>36505716
It might just be a side effect of banishing CoDs, since undead are basically machines run by necromantic power and banishing that power eliminates their source of animation.

>>
>>36505753
...Do you hate me?
Also, will Final Ray of Light be a charm that we could eventually get? Seems like an awesome Zenith Capstone
>>
>>36505767
Then it should still work on other Creature of Darkness extras, like fae mooks. Also, as-written, it works on ghosts, which are in no way animated constructs.

It's odd because the Underworld, ghosts, and Necromancy didn't exist when Solars were created, and I think that charm is supposed to be our Anima power - i.e. a power fundamental to all Zeniths by virtue of being Zenith. That's why people think it must work on other CoDs too - that and EF, when asked, said we won't know if it works until we try it on them.
>>
>>36505839
>said we won't know if it works until we try it on them.
This is a big one, we should go talk to Silk, ask her to make a hobgoblin mook and test it out

Most people who participate in this quest, myself included, aren't even awake when it starts. People have pitched fits about critically important decisions being made when a majority of the players are asleep, and with good reason. Having it at the end is the only sensible choice, even if it means having to delay it to the end of the next thread rather than the beginning of it.
