My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. I already thought my life was odd, what with my parents having moved halfway across the country for their new job and leaving me in the care of my older sister... but then my best friend went and had a book shipped to my house that ended up giving me superpowers.

After a most pleasant night's sleep, I woke up to an even more pleasant sight. Of course it didn't last, though... I'm still kind of sore about that, but I do have better things to do with my day than act like a pervert so now I'm out here trying to cheer Gabrielle up.

It looks like she's mad about having spent the night out on the couch... but she's the one who offered to sleep there in the first place, it's not like I kicked her out.

Though I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want to, she's an absolutely HORRIBLE sleeper.

>"Good morning, Gabrielle," I call out. "Thanks for last night."
>"..." Gabrielle glares at me. "Yeah, whatever," she mumbles. "I'm cold and I woke up on the couch and..." she drifts off.

While it was Gabrielle's idea to sleep in the couch in the first place, I can't help but feel kinds of bad about it. I mean, it -is- a bit chilly out in the living room and even with Milla here to keep her company it couldn't have been all that pleasant a place to spend the night.

Still lying in front of the couch. Milla looks at me with a puzzled expression as I step over her and drop myself down in between Gabrielle and Shary.

"...what do you want?" Gabrielle growls as she looks at me from the corner of her eye.
"Just to do this," I reply as I reach over to her and pull her into my arms.
"Wwwwhat are you doing!?" Gabrielle shouts, squirming in my grip.
"You looked down so I'm trying to cheer you up," I reply. "And hugs usually work when I'm feeling crappy, so..."
"Well I'm not you!" she yells. "Now let me go!"

"Fine, if you say so," I say, pouting as I let go of her.
"Freakin' weirdo," Gabrielle mutters under her breath.
"But I bet Shary won't mind if I hug -him- instead!"

I turn to the opposite end of the couch and reach for Gabrielle's stuffed cat.. but Milla snatches it off the couch just before I can grab onto his ear, sending it falling to the ground with loud thud.

"C'mon, Milla..." I moan, pleading to the large cat while making my best puppy dog eyes.

But they don't work at all since Milla's a cat. Or something. Instead, Milla picks it up by the scruff of its neck and carries it just outside my reach.

"Milla's on my side," Gabrielle says, sticking out her tongue. "She knows that Shary doesn't get any hugs either."
"Well I don't think that's very fair," Charlotte says as she slowly rises from behind the couch where Gabrielle's sitting.
"You know that doesn't work on me," she sighs. "I saw you crawling back there, you're a weirdo just like your weirdo girlfriend."
"Mmm..." Charlotte tilts her head to the side, "but it wasn't to scare you, it was to get myself into position."
"...for what?" she asks.

And without warning, Charlotte reaches out with her good arm towards her little sister. And as a little sister myself, I am all too familiar with what's about to happen...

Even with only one usable hand, Charlotte's still more than a match for the petite Gabrielle. I almost feel sorry for her as her big sister extends her hand and goes right under her armpit...

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHASTOPCHARLOTTEHAHAHAHHHHHA" Gabrielle squeals and flails in an attempt to escape her sister's tickle attack, but sadly for her those efforts are futile. While Charlotte might be her adopted sister, her tickling skills are up there with someone who's been at this for her entire life.

"You know I hate it when you're all frowny like that, Gabrielle!" Charlotte says to her while continuing her tickle onslaught. "But maybe this'll help to lighten up your mood some!"
"SSSSSTOPHAHAHAHAHCHARLOTEUIT'SNOTFUNNYHAAHHAHHHAHAHAHAHA" Gabrielle chokes out, her eyes now welled up with tears. Charlotte's really getting her good. "CCCECILE HELP ME!!"

I solemnly lower my gaze and shake my head.

"Sorry, I'm just a spectator in this," I say to her.

Keeping to my statement, I hop off the couch so that I can get a better look at this whole thing. It always sucked (and still does, now that I think about it) to be on the receiving end of this, but it's definitely fun to watch.

Having decided that Gabrielle's had enough, Charlotte lets go of her and walks over to where Milla is. While she does this, Gabrielle just lies there on the couch, waiting until after her breathing normalizes to fix her dishevelled pajamas.

"Stupid Charlotte..." Gabrielle mutters under her breath as she sits up on the couch.
"You usually like playing ticklefight," Charlotte replies as she walks over to her sister and hands her her stuffed cat.
"No I don't," she growls as she snatches it from her sister's hand.
"Well maybe you could've avoided this if you just let me hug you," I say, shrugging.

Gabrielle simply glares at me, then gets up from the couch and starts walking towards the bathroom while dragging Shary along the floor.

"I'm gonna go take a bath," she mumbles as she retreats inside the bathroom and slams the door behind her.
"...I guess I should do that too," Charlotte says. "I'm still covered in -your- sweat," she nudges me with her elbow, and I need to get to the hospital before long."

Oh yeah, I'd almost forgotten about that.

"But I can wait for you to get washed up first if you want," Charlotte says to me.

With no other alternative, I wrap a towel around myself, securing it so that I won't end up flashing anyone by accident. Thankfully, these hotel towels are nice and large, with more than enough material to cover me entirely.

Now I understand why people always steal these things.

With my preparations done with, I slowly crack the door open and peek outside... good, it doesn't seem like anyone's standing outside the bathroom. And since it's just a few steps from here to Charlotte's room, I shouldn't be at too much risk.

But just in case, maybe I can do something else with these fancy light powers that I happen to have.

I use Chrome.
Both are free.
What's the difference?

>Objectivists cannot accept gifts from strangers.
No where in the tenets of Objectivism does it say you cannot accept a gift. If Firefox or Google or Internet Explorer value others having the ability to browse the internet so highly that they give you their browsers for free, then they clearly are not doing so out of altruism, but rather as a realization of their values and principles. This is the culmination of Objectivism. Having values and spreading them to others with your actions.

You clearly know nothing about Philosophy. Please kill yourself.

Seeing works by your eyes taking in the light that bounces off of stuff, so if I make all the light that -would- hit me bend around and keep on going as if I was never here, I should be able to make myself invisible... I think.

But hey, now's as good a time as any to give it a try!

Retreating back into the bathroom, I step in front of the mirror, close and take a deep breath, then I concentrate on all the light around me. All the light that's -touching- me. And once I can get a good feel for it, I take hold and bend it around me little by little until it's all gone.

This is kind of giving me a headache, but I think it's working!

"Okay..." I say to myself as I open my eyes.

And I can't see ANYTHING! I'm completely blind!

CC really needs to get around to reading a few wikipedia articles on the properties of light.
>>
>>36539707

The shock from having lost my freaking SIGHT stuns me enough to completely drop my hold on the light that's around me... and it's like someone just flipped a switch so that I can see again. What the hell?

...oh yeah, bending the light around me means that I'm also bending the light away from my eyes. And if no light touches my eyes then -I- can't see anything either. Damn, and I was so sure that would work too. At least I figured that out instead of in an event where I'd be risking my life though.

Not that I have any intention of ever risking my life again, of course.

>[3/?]
>>
>>36539809

Maybe it'd work if I bent the light away from everything EXCEPT my eyes, but I'd also have to make my glasses visible and it'd also mean that I'd have a floating pair of eyeballs and glasses which just sounds gross... eh, I can test that out some other time. At least I know that I -can- make myself invisible at all. It might come in handy in the future maybe.

Deciding to just go about this normal... ish, I open the door back up and slide out into the hallway, taking extra care that nobody sees me. I think I hear Charlotte talking at the door, and you can't see the bathroom from there so yay!

Sneak.

Gabrielle doesn't even turn to face me, instead focusing on using the mirror in Charlotte's room to see how to adjust that little bonnet headband thing that goes on her head.

"Uh..." I stumble backwards. "I forgot that I left my clothes in here so I was trying to get them before someone saw me..."

Obviously that plan was a total bust.

"You -do- know that we're all girls here, right?" Gabrielle asks. "And Charlotte's your girlfriend so I bet you've already seen each other naked and stuff..."
"Nnnnno I have not!" I stammer.

The most I've seen of her is when she was changing last night and we were in such a rush that I didn't even get a chance to look!

"Well anyways it's really not a big deal to see you in a towel so you can quit freaking out," Gabrielle sighs. "Do you think this is on straight?" she asks.
"Uh, I think so," I nod.
"Okay," she nods.

Grabbing Shary from off the dresser, Gabrielle walks over to a chair and picks up my clothes from where I left them and shoves them into my chest as she passes by me on the way out of the bedroom.

I close the door to the bedroom and then get changed in here, feeling REALLY stupid all the while. Once I'm done, I go back into the bathroom to put away the towel that I was using as a covering...

"What is that?" I wonder out loud as I find myself practically pulled into the kitchen by a delicious scent.

And then I realize what Charlotte was doing at the door a few minutes ago- she was getting us breakfast!

"Wow, thanks!" I say, kissing Charlotte in the cheek along the way to the table.
"Eheh, I thought you'd appreciate this," Charlotte giggles. "You two can go ahead and eat, I'm going to go and take a bath now."

I guess she's going to eat after she gets out?

Yeah this.

Fun fact: making them completely invisible is actually impossible via light-bending because there isn't any light being reflected off the plate below them. You could make a pancake-shaped null zone, but the plate below them wouldn't show through and it would be fairly obvious.

We would have to conceptualize what the plate should look like while devoid of pancakes and substitute that for the actual image of the pancake-filled plate if we wanted to pull a convincing "the pamcakes have disappeared" trick.

On a related note, this also applies to the contact point between our feet and the ground when we do our invisibility trick, but unless someone is running around starring at the floor while searching for us that's less of an issue.
>>
>>36540358
So that's why the goblins could see Bilbo's shadow in The Hobbit...
>>
>>36540358
instead of romoving or bending light away or around things to make them invisible, why dont we add light to make it liik like its not there. perhaps weve been going about this invisibility thing all wrong.

instead of moveing the light somewhere else just cover it up. easy
>>
>>36540358
True. But we might be able to 'copy+paste' the light of a portion of plate that the waffles are on and substitute them where the waffles would cause problems. It wouldn't be 'too' much of a stretch I don't think as it's using a pre-existing source.

>>

No, but I'd like to think she's gotten past the "all killing is bad forever" nonsense that a lot of naive student activist types buy into. It's just raw doublethink that most people outgrow by the time they hit highschool.

I mean it's one thing to not be thrilled with the idea of killing people, fair enough, not becoming comfortable with doing that as a general rule is probably a good sign, but going full self-loathing over the fact that she had to toast the evil mafia boss who was doing his level best to kill her and her girlfriend is silly.
>>
>>36540894

>thinking killing someone isn't something to be proud of is being a caricature

*tips "Born to Kill" helmet*
>>
>>36540978
I wasn't arguing that, my point was the military spends a ton of money trying to figure out how to control the way you think, conditioning you to respond to tragedy with anger rather then sorrow.

You see someone in the military with guilt over killing someone, its probably collateral damage, not an armed enemy combatant they have been trained to hate.

The killing of child warriors is an exception to this.
>>
>>36540979
but what that anon said makes her look nothing like that, there is literaly nothing wrong with what he said. telling her killing someone isnt something were proud of doesnt make us anything like whhat you described. keep in mind CC is a timid teenage girl who is still in school, shes been a trooper for keeping it together as well as she has.
>>
>>36541005
You need to practice sentence structure.
>>
>>36541040
What that anon said is completely ignoring two key points. First, CC's life, but the life of someone else as well. Second, most people's first, second, and third creation is justifying their own actions, and lucky for CC her actions have easy justification just based of the facts of what happened.

People who are completely justified and immediately jump on the "I'm a horrible person for defending myself" train are the anomaly, not the norm.

And no, I'm not saying she should be "proud" of it, but she also shouldn't be ashamed or feel overly guilty about it to the point where she has to refute people thanking her for doing what was obviously correct. There is a middle ground in between The Punisher and Mental Patient.
>>
>>36540979
So when a teenage girl witnesses 4 cases of extreme overkill, one of which was by her own hand, it's weird that she doesn't just get over it?

Most people who see shit like that end up in the loony bin for the rest of their lives. It's more unbelievable that she's acting normally. Whether or not they deserved it is another matter entirely.

Normal people don't just shrug off watching a man eaten alive by rats. That's fucking Vietnam shit. And that was the START of that killing frenzy.

"Does this kind of thing happen to you guys a lot?" I ask since that's the only reason that I can think of that she'd be so okay about killing people.
"Not really," Gabrielle replies. "I mean, I've been kidnapped before but that only happened like twice ever."
"Once was more than enough for me," I say, shaking my head.
"Yeah, it sucks," she nods. "The first time I was super scared and then DAddy's men came and shot all the bad guys in the head... the second time wasn't so clean but meh," she shrugs. "I would tell you exactly what happened the last time someone tried that but Charlotte yelled at me when I tried so I guess I won't."
"Please don't," I shake my head.

This is going to take a lot of getting used to...

"But I guess it's a good thing that you're the softy type," Gabrielle says. "That means that you're less likely to go all crazy and do bad stuff... you know that serialkiller got two more people last night, right?"
"Yeah, I got a phonecall about that when it happened," I nod.

>>
>>36541079
its not that we think were a horrible person for defending ourselves and we certainly dont feel guilty for it, its more like "shit... i killed a person... damn"

CC almost died aswell, so that add to the trauma of the kidnaping and seeing like 5 people killed infront of her all on the same day. some heavy shit to deal with.
>>
>>36541130
Dude, she watched a man get eaten alive by rats. And listened to him scream. The entire time. Begging.
And that's not even the one she killed.

Saying it's not good isn't saying it's evil. It's not good to kill someone. But sometimes it has to happen. That doesn't mean that when you do need to kill, that you can just shrug and get over it.

I know more soldiers that tell me that the only thing that feels good about killing is that you aren't the one who's dead, than soldiers who say they like killing.
>>
>>36541154
The eaten by rats thing is a totally different thing then the fight with Leo.

Killing someone with rats is needlessly edgy.
>>
>>36541138
I wouldn't even call that comparable, you can make a strong argument that most soldiers on a battlefield probably didn't do anything wrong beyond having a bit of misguided patriotism and/or being unlucky enough to get drafted.

Leo was just a straight up shitbag.

Now that Arch is done, I'll post my rebuttal you smug little twit. Since I am cognizant of basic human decency.

Internet Explorer and Google Chrome commercialize your virtual browsing history after making you agree to a binding contract. Mozilla Firefox is a free open source, internet client made to offer an alternative to Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc that stores data on your computer instead of sending it to corporate and governmental facilities for analysis.

Objectivist Morality defines privacy as a value, a greater value no less, and it's promotion of laissez faire capitalism as the premiere system seeks to protect the greater values of privacy, property, happiness, etc. Prism and Google bending over their arse for the NSA, as well as violating federal surveillance laws for your information makes them harmful for the development of an objectively moral society. While other interpretations of objectivism do not say that you are guaranteed rights, it's still your duty as a good little objectivist to fight for your's, or at least, to sell them at a premium price. To do otherwise is immoral. You agreed to this contract to sacrifice privacy, a greater value of objectivism, for convenience (which can be universally agreed upon to be a lower value); if you want to argue that this is a profitable contract, be my fucking guest. In fact, upon looking at your screenshot again, we see you're using, of all things, adblock. Because you're too fucking lazy and stupid to configure simple script blocks on Mozilla, you're whoring out your greater values for not one, but two dogshit contracts for convenience. Why, if I didn't know any better, I'd call you an internet philanthropist because of the rate you're just tossing wads of datapackets around. You are acting immorally and gaumlessly by your own creed as you call us immoral monkeys. We can therefore conclude you are enormously hypocritical, as well as a huge faggot. Thanks for spitting on Ayn Rand's corpse.

Everyone has an eating problem of some kind in arch's quests.

Just accept it.

Did Charlotte ever did that devouring mice thing before? How did she came up with it? Who did she use it on the first time?

>If we start killing assholes there we'd be at it all day.

No no, don't misunderstand, I'm not advocating slaughter of people, just a somewhat humorous way of getting the point across that we don't have time for her bullshit because we've got leviathans to kill and Arnaud-senpai is watching. Spinelle is going to show up and I don't think Reinhold has it in him to ignore her entirely while still being ok.

I mention the giant-internal-organ dodgeball thing because A) the internal organs of all the slaughtered monsters will presumably be plentiful once we get down to business, and B) spiking your childhood tormenter in the face with one would be cathartic in the extreme.

>Thanks for spitting on Ayn Rand's corpse.

Her philosophy is retarded and unworkable, and her believers are as dumb as the kids who think communism just hasn't been tried in the right places yet.

>How cool are Mina and Irene with killing?
Mina hardened her heart against anyone who would harm her loved ones way back when. While she's not about to go directly for the kill as a opening move, she's not opposed to ending someone life in order to protect someone she cares about.
Irene's killed lots of folks over the years.

>will there be a male character in CC's future that wont try to kill her or channel the douchebaggery of satan at her at least?
There already have been, and there will be in the future.

>Do the Guathier sisters and their father speak wakfu?
David's fluent, Gabrielle is learning, Charlotte only knows a few words.

>Is Charlotte fast eating due to her past homelessness?
In part, yeah. While she didn't have to worry about animal predators or anything like that, it was still important for her to be able to eat quickly just in case.

>Did Charlotte ever did that devouring mice thing before? How did she came up with it?
Charlotte never did that before, she was previously using the mice to find a way out and/or signal to someone to come and rescue her and Cecile.
As for how she came up with it, she was just really really really pissed and that was the most horrific way to kill someone that she could think of at the time.

And now it is time for me to sleep. Thanks for playing!
