You're not sure when you blacked out, but you must have. When you awaken you find yourself laid out on your bed, Zahak's head rested on the bedding next to you, nuzzled up beneath your hand. For some reason his body isn't as flesh-searingly hot anymore, though he's still more than a little warm to the touch. Perhaps as he's grown larger there's simply more to insulate whatever it is generating heat from the outside world.
>Vys Pool: (41/41)

You feel strange, somehow different than you were before you stepped through the portal. Perhaps it's merely your imagination, but as you lay on your thin mattress staring up at your ceiling you could swear you catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye. A swirling mass not dissimilar to the ebb and flow of ambient vys. Your chest aches as well, but it is a minor issue. You try channeling a little water magic to alleviate that pain, but it does little good.

You push yourself up on your elbows and survey the room, reaching up one hand to wipe sweat from your brow. Profectus is sleeping in your desk chair, and Zahak is stretched out along the side of the bed. You're still dressed in what you were wearing when you began meditating, except someone has removed your boots and arranged them neatly at the door. You swing your legs out from beneath the covers and quietly slip from bed, padding over to the doorway and slipping on your boots.

What time is it? You wanted to leave in the morning, hopefully you're not late. It was probably around midnight when you attempted that meditation, so you've probably overslept at least a tad. As you contemplate your circumstances, an idea occurs to you. Fulvia ought to be awake, she doesn't sleep at all, and she seems to always know the exact hour. You reach out to her via the brooches, your thoughts passing through the connection between you. {How long have I been out?}

Her response is immediate, as per usual. {Roughly six hours. It is seven in the morning presently. Chryssa informed us of your intention to leave come morning and I have already carried Thad's, Mortia's, Darzi's, and Profectus' belongings to the carriage. Chryssa insisted on taking care of it herself. As I'm sure you're well aware, your belongings are inaccessible to all save yourself.}

Gods, that woman is useful. Still, you're not sure exactly how to slip Zahak out of the temple without attracting attention. He's rather larger than he was when you first hatched him, and you're unsure whether or not you could carry him on your back. He's probably two hundred pounds, or approaching that size. You suppose you could try to turn him invisible, but that would prove rather taxing.

>Turn Zahak invisible, you have enough vys to handle it. He'll have to walk out.
>As above, but have Chrys or Fulvia carry him out. Skull Kid also should be able to handle it.
>Just create a moving illusory screen which depicts the terrain around him. It won't be perfect, but it ought to do the trick.
>Screw it, strut out of the temple like you own the damn place with Zahak in tow.

Went digging and found a few alternate depictions of Zahak, feel free to choose your favorite. This one looks a bit parrot-like, I think. It's alright though.

>Meditation, as he explains it, is tapping into Surya's Heart. It's touching your consciousness to the vastness of magic. However, it also necessitates the use of the void as a sort of buffer. One does not directly touch Surya's Heart, they merely glance at it. They armor themselves in Void so as to not be blinded by Surya's splendor. For to touch the realm of magic would surely drive any mortal insane.

>All vys comes from surya who is fire, and vys has been shown to be in the same vein of color as fire, so it would make sense that fire.
First off, different souls are different colors and so is vys, so that theory is already bullshit, second, color isn't necessarily indicative of element, third, just because Surya is a god of fire, doesn't mean Surya can only use fire, it's a god.

>Its confirmed harmless.
It's not, not only damages our sanity, there's also the risk of not being able to regenerate it for some reason, or deteriorating it too much.

>All vys comes from surya who is fire, and vys has been shown to be in the same vein of color as fire, so it would make sense that fire.

the heart of surya (if it's actually what it is) produce pure vys, not fire magic.

>Its confirmed harmless.
it's not in itself. it didn't harm us because the heart restored our soul. it was specifically described as destroying our memory and personality.
>>
>>36553655
>Why would water make sense then?
What the shit are you even talking about?

>I think it has more to do with the fire GM insight
I highly doubt it, I'm pretty sure it's more of a direct result of stepping through the gate and having our soul bombarded with vys.

>We didn't take a sanity hit from doing that to our soul anon
We don't know that, and usually extreme pain accompanied by unfamiliar other-worldly experiences leads to sanity loss.

>hell soma says that this is a straight up upgrade from normal meditations.
Meditating near a gate is, nothing has been said about stepping through one.

You clap your hands together, the noise startling Profectus awake. Zahak merely cracks open a single eye. When he notices you've moved from the bed he climbs to his feet and stretches, the scales on his neck flaring out and rattling together. The noise it makes reminds you of the noise sistra snake makes when it rattles the hollow bulb at the end of its tail. Except sharper, and vaguely metallic.

“Gods above and below, Mik! I thought you were a dead man! You were hotter than the dragon to the touch when Chrys called us in here!” Profectus exclaims as he forces himself to his feet.

You shrug your shoulders nonchalantly. “I was attempting a new method of meditation. It actually went very well, I feel I've learned... something. I can't say I'm exactly sure what it was.”

Profectus shoots you a venomous glare. “How can you say a meditation method which leaves you writhing around on the floor screaming about fire 'went well'? Do you think getting a drink thrown in your face is the desirable result after flirting with a woman? Would you enjoy getting stabbed in the throat in the midst of a battle?”

You grin, waving a hand absentmindedly in Zahak's direction. Immediately your dragon fades from sight, vanishing in an instant. Profectus jumps only slightly, to his credit. “It's simple, Prof. I learned something. So long as you learn something you can't truly say you've failed, even if the result you achieve is less than desirable. That is, assuming you don't die. Dying is typically a sign of failure.” You pause for a moment. “Typically. Anyway, lets get going. We've got a lot of ground to cover today.

To experiment and see what it does. Not that our soul is made of water.
>>
Profectus sighs dramatically, but makes his way out of your room. You focus your thoughts towards Zahak, and the mental image of him following you out of the temple. You can sense that he obeys, due to your understanding of Nature magic as well as the fact he bumps his head into your thigh only a few moments later. With dragon in tow you stride out of the room, proceeding down the hallways.

You reach out to everyone via the brooches. {Everybody say your goodbyes and then meet up at the carriage, it's time to head out. Our destination is El-Amin, and from there the Pa'vala.}

Darzi is the one who replies. {Way ahead of you, Mik. We've been waiting around for the last hour or so for you to wake up. You feeling alright? You were in pretty bad shape when we found you.}

You pause to let a procession of monks pass. You could've slipped between them without disturbing them easily enough, but with Zahak in tow that may have ended poorly. {I feel fine, an ache in my chest and a bit delirious but otherwise fine. I assume it will pass with time.}
>Vys Pool: (35/41)

You notice that an older monk, a white beard gracing his chin, is staring at a spot just slightly behind you. His eyes are milky white, so presumably he's blind. You're guessing he can see Zahak, but he does not cry out, attack, or otherwise give any indication that he cares. Merely stares. When he notices you've seen him, he shakes his head slowly and mumbles something to himself, hobbling off towards the monk's quarters. Suddenly there is a bit more of a spring in your step as you make for the gardens and the underground passage to the fortress.

You emerge in the courtyard after a brief walk. The gardens had been surprisingly deserted, only a handful of monks attending to their duties. You see why, now. It seems half the temple has gathered to see you and your party off. The carriage, in all its ominous glory, sits in the center. The various chest and bags of your companions have been strapped to the roof, while Chrys and Darzi sit on the driver's bench. Skull Kid, Mortia, and Fulvia are relaxing near the door to the interior.

You find yourself mobbed by well-wishers and friends. Aziz clasp your forearm and slaps you companionably on the shoulder as he wishes you well in your journey. Kaur gives you a brief, friendly hug and tells you not to be such a dick going forward. The Varistha bows, touching her fingers to her head and chest but not otherwise offering anything. Fortunately Zahak had the good sense to slip around the crowd and retreat to the carriage, at least you think so. You've sort of lost track of him.
>Vys Pool: (31/41)

It takes near a half hour to get away from the crowd, but eventually you manage it. You didn't even recognize half of those people. How did they know who you were? Actually, that's a silly question. You're the newest Grandmaster in the temple. Of course they would've been told about you. This is probably customary. You shouldn't let your ego get the better of you.

Once you've passed through the gauntlet and made it to the carriage, Darzi calls back to you from the driver's bench. “Anything you'd like to do in town before we head out? Doubt we'll be seeing this place for quite some time, if our destination is the Pa'vala.”

>Evidently one is able to travel extremely quickly from one location to another in this realm, with but a thought. However, if the soul travels too far from the body the body will die, and trap the Vatis as a consciousness without a physical manifestation. Apparently there are ways to prevent this or restore the Vatis' body; however, the Varistha does not expound on what these methods might be. He merely mentions that they supposedly exist.

>Reading on, he states that once within this grey realm, it is safe to erode the soul with Earth magic. The parts lost will regenerate once at the gateway to Surya's Heart and eroding the soul makes it infinitely simpler to slip through the imperceptible pores which allow one to pass from this 'buffer' area into the Void proper.

only because of the later regen:

"Reading on, he states that once within this grey realm, it is safe to erode the soul with Earth magic. The parts lost will regenerate once at the gateway to Surya's Heart and eroding the soul makes it infinitely simpler to slip through the imperceptible pores which allow one to pass from this 'buffer' area into the Void proper."

and by the way the effect of eroding the soul were described very clearly :

"You use Earth magic to erode your very soul, bits and pieces of yourself flaking away in long strips. You find yourself forgetful. For some reason the name of your elder brother escapes you, as does the face of your mother. Who your childhood friends were, or if you even had a childhood. At first you feel a rising sense of panic, but then that's gone as well. Replaced by an emotionless emptiness. A sort of vague longing."

You cock your head to one side and contemplate the various villagers you've met over the course of your stay here. “Let's stop by that bakery in the square and stock up on some sweets before we leave. I'd also like to say goodbye to the alchemist from whom I bought a handful of potions from.”

Mortia perks up at the mention of Ghada. “Ah! I ought to say goodbye to her as well. I went to speak with her after you recommend it and she proved incalculably helpful. Truly, I was blundering around in the dark before I spoke with her.”

You nod approvingly. “Great, we'll go together then. However, I believe we ought to enjoy some delicious baked goods first.” With that, you climb into the carriage with the rest of your companions as well as Zahak following suit. However, you're surprised to find that strange hermit woman you met at that mountaintop cave when you took Zahak hunting sitting inside waiting for you. She has her arms folded in front of her chest and one leg folded over the other. She looks nervous, and perhaps a tad impatient.

“Prof said that you would be willing to offer me a ride back to my home in the mountains before making your way south. I hope it is not too much of an imposition.” She states, her tone irritable. Has she told you her name? You can't recall for the life of you. Wait! You remember! Tertia! That's it.

Profectus slides into the carriage behind you, slipping into a seat next to the stone-armed woman. His arm, his normal arm, slides around her shoulders and she nestles into his side. “Actually, you know Mik, I was telling her how we would just love to have her tag along. She just won't hear it, unfortunately. Stubborn as a mule, this one.” Profectus has a bit of a pleading look in his eye, you can tell he really doesn't want to leave the woman behind.

Tertia glares up at Profectus for a moment before turning her attention to you. “I've no desire to stray too far from my home, I'm sure doing such will end in nothing save misfortune.” Well, she certainly sounds resolute...

well the shekels arent going to count themselves you know

>Plus she does seem more competent than Prof.
She does, but I'm hoping that her not coming will be the foot in the ass to make Prof starting taking his training seriously.
He didn't have the swag to make her stay on his own so he asked us to pitch in or something.
That'd make me see him as fucking scrub tier if I was getting banged by him.
Now would be a good time to use it against his lazyness.

You sit down, making yourself comfortable in the plush leather seats that surround the round table that dominates the center of the carriage's interior. This really was a fine purchase, comfortable as can be and convenient too, you ought to be able to meditate so long as nothing jolts the carriage about too severely.

“You know, we really wouldn't mind if you wished to tag along. It will mean a smaller portion of loot for everyone, but based on our last score we shouldn't really have to worry about that for quite some time. Not to mention the two of you seem quite close. Wouldn't it be a shame to end a relationship just as it's begun?”

She folds her arms in front of her chest. “We won't be ending anything, he's promised to visit me whenever he gets the opportunity.” Profectus nods firmly, as if to affirm her statement.

You give Profectus a Look. “I'm afraid to say I don't know how frequently he'll be getting that opportunity, after the Pa'vala our destination will be Elaudia. Perhaps on our way he will be able to stop in to visit, but it is far from certain. It's not even certain we'll survive the month. If you wanted to see him with any sort of frequency, it is almost a prerequisite that you travel with us.”

She shakes her head firmly. “We'll find a way, and if you should all perish than I'll at least have the memory of our time together. Do not ask me to join you in your quest for a vainglorious death in battle, or the search for unnecessary wealth. I have all that I need in the mountains.”

What?
>>
You relent, and it's only a few moments later that the Carriage jolts into motion. Fulvia has taken a seat across from you, her hands folded neatly in her lap. Mortia is your left, and Skull Kid sits next to Fulvia. You make light conversation about nothing in particular, mostly trying to get a feel for how Mortia and Skull Kid are adjusting to living in a new reality. They seem to be doing well enough, though Mortia professes she misses her home in the swamp and Skull Kid seems to miss the comforts of his dimension. They both agree the food is excellent.

The carriage jolts to a sudden stop after only a few minute's ride from the fortress and you all pile out to find yourselves standing in front of the baker. The enticing scent of fresh baklava wafts from the interior, as do the smells of various other treats. Your companions quickly filter in and you follow suit, your eyes taking a moment to adjust to the dimness of the interior.

The only light seems to filter through the slats of the oven, the cover currently shut. You see Bastien, the old one-eyed baker and ex-pirate scraping some sort of yellow paste into that strange metal contraption of his that takes up the entire right half of the shop. It's with some surprise you realize that it's bastani, a type of frozen dairy product with egg, sugar, and usually saffron, rose water, vanilla, and other such herbs. You've never seen so much of it in one place, usually there is seldom more than a carton of the stuff available even in the nicest of hookah dens. Bastien has gallons upon gallons of the stuff.

Darzi seems quite taken with it. As a commoner, she's probably never even had it. Your other companions don't even seem to recognize what it is. Except for Skull Kid and Mortia, they recognized it instantly but don't seem to entirely trust it.

Mortia is the one who speaks, addressing Bastien. “You have ice cream and refrigeration? How?”

(2/3)
>>
Bastien cocks an eyebrow at her, evidently confused. “Ice cream? No no no, this is a local delicacy. Basteme, or something like that. It's a little more complex than just frozen cream. As for the frigidarium, it's an old Rhynian invention. I have only reassembled it from parts I found in an old ruin.” He waved a hand dismissively, as if to say reconstructing an ancient Rhynain machine was no big deal.

Bastien finally greets you once he's finished scraping the bastani in his metal bucket into the contraption that takes up his wall. “I have heard from a little birdy that my former comrades are dead by your hand...” His tone is cold and menacing as he steps back behind the counter, setting the bucket down out of sight. As he straightens up he fixes the lot of you with a vicious glare, but only for a moment before grinning from ear to ear, a delighted glint in his eyes. “Wonderful news! Those men, my friends. Those men were evil, and I say that as a former member of their little armada. Whatever you like, it is on the house. Within reason of course.”

>He really doesn't care that you killed his former associates? What did they do that drove him off? You know the Varistha nursed him back to health but that hardly seems a reason to hate his old comrades.

You make your way to the counter, leaning against it to get a better look at the various pastries beneath the glass. Unfortunately it's a bit hard to see, what with the lack of light, but you manage to pick out a few interesting morsels. “Just what is it that caused you to hate your former allies so fiercely? Do you really not care that we killed them? Granted, it was a clean death. Quick, for most of them. Alive one moment and gone the next. However, I would still think you'd be a little mournful of their passing into Surya's maw. Trust me, I've thrown myself into that awful realm and it's none too pleasant.”

Bastien sighs, stretching his back for a moment and then resting his hands on his pot belly. “Well, there are a number of reasons. Leaving me to die in the drink certainly didn't make me fond of the bastards. Since then they've hounded me for years. Y'know I used to go out and collect my own ingredients. I'd fish, set out crab cages, collect herbs in the hills. Seemed once my old friends caught word I was still alive they started sending out patrols, hunted me for years. Every time I'd go out they'd fire guns, arrows, even got a harpoon thrown at me once. Said I deserved death for being a filthy deserter.”

Bastien shrugs. “They got bored eventually, and let me alone. I'm just not the forgiving sort. They didn't do themselves any favors when I was apart of their little band either. Recruits had to take months upon months of abuse, both verbal and physical. Whippings were common. From what I understand, there was a change of leadership and they softened up a bit, but I've still got lash scars all across my back.”

He holds up a finger and excuses himself, opening the hatch of his oven and checking the contents. The scent of honey, nuts, cinnamon, sugar, and fresh baked bread waft from the oven. Baklava! “How does it look, Bastien? Any idea when it will be ready?”

He retrieves a long wooden... well, it would be best described as a spatula. He shoves the device into the oven and drags out a heaping tray of Baklava, the layers of bread, nuts, honey, and various other ingredients stacked high. He sets it down with an impressive display of dexterity on his part, you're surprised he can handle the unwieldy spatula-like device so easily in the cramped quarters behind the counter. “Now, my friend! Right now!”

He cuts off a good third of the trey and further divides that into portions, packing each away in a wooden box with thin sheets of wax parchment dividing each block. He leaves one out, setting it on a plate with a plain iron fork and passing it across the counter to you.

While you're happily chewing away, savoring the rare treat that is fresh baklava slowly so as to enjoy the moment for as long as you can, your companions come up to the counter to make their purchases known. Well, you call them purchases but it's all free. Darzi has gotten two gallons of bastami, while Mortia got some bamiyeh dipped in honey and sprinkled with sugar and pistachios. Skull Kid just got a dozen sugar cookies with bits of nuts inside. Chrys seems to have selected a thick brick of halva. Profectus and Tertia seem to be sharing a bowl of noghl, which is perhaps a bit scandalous. They're sugar coated almonds typically enjoyed as part of a wedding feast.

Fulvia, of course, does not eat.

>>
After everyone has enjoyed their sweets and the leftovers are packed into your cloak, Mortia and yourself set off for Ghada's hut while the rest of your party climbs back into the carriage to wait for your return. It doesn't take you long to reach the seaside shanty, but Mortia almost takes a tumble off the top of one of the stepping stones which lead to Ghada's hut. She barely manages to find her footing, thus preventing a nasty fall into the waters and rocks below.

You raise a hand to knock, but before you're able the door slides open. You find Ghada at her table, a rather terrified looking rooster pinned to her table. She brings down a heavy steel clever and the chicken's head is parted from its body in an instant. She tosses the head into the fire while holding up the twitching body, muttering something under her breath. There's a surge of vys, and from the fire a figure comes dancing forth.

It's made of golden flames, a masculine figure. Whether it's dancing or in the midst of a battle isn't entirely clear. A dragon, bright red, comes soaring out of the fire and clamps its jaws around his neck. There's a savage jerk, and the flesh of the man's throat is ripped free. The dragon proceeds to feast on his corpse. You can't help but swallow a thick knot of worry which came to block your throat over the course of the scene.

Ghada wipes sweat from her brow before setting the now still corpse on the table, wiping some blood off on her black robes. Oddly, it doesn't actually stain her robes. She smiles to Mortia and yourself pleasantly with her hands clasped together in front of her. “What can I do for you two? Sorry about that little display, you caught me in the middle of a particular messy ritual.”

The hut smells of burning flesh and feathers, as well as cloves oddly enough.

reading again, the surya heart meditation is dangerous. Not because of the mind destroying/repairing. But due to the chance of running into void creatures, before even finding a gate. So that is the only thing I worry about.

>>36556773
What am I delusional about?

Of course you did.
It is not permanent because it replenishes.
Even OUTSIDE of the gate we get our mind/soul/everything back that was deteriorated with earth.

You stare at her for a moment with a mix of confusion and curiosity. “By the Gods, what was that? If I recall I interrupted a similar ritual on my first visit.”

Ghada grins. “Ahh! Divination, a lost art I'm afraid. A lost art I'm disinclined to teach. You see, it was lost because it's near useless. It takes years and years of study to perform even the most basic of rituals and they're often seemingly nonsensical. Not to mention the slightest disturbance can result in a different result than the one desired. Not to mention the prophecies are only slightly more reliable than guessing at random.”

She shrugs. “Anyway, that was probably one possible future you might face. Considering it features a dragon ripping out your throat, I wouldn't put much stock in it. You'd have to be truly, truly unlucky to encounter a dragon when they've been dead since long before the rise of Hiacia.”

You nod, a bit nervous now. Mortia shoots you worried look before bowing low to Ghada. “We'll be departing for Alamen-” Both you and Ghada interrupt her simultaneously. “El-Amin.” Seriously, how did she mess that up? It's not even a difficult name to pronounce. She shrinks back a bit at the reprimand but clears her throat and continues. “Right, El-Amin. Well, we'll be going to wherever that is and wished to thank you for all the help.”

She smiles beatifically, spreading her arms wide and making her way across the room to envelop Mortia in a warm hug. Mortia squeaks, tensing up as her arms wrap around her and standing stock still, clearly confused. You suppose she's not used to people being so touchy. To be honest, it's a little strange even by your people's standards. Then again, it may also have something to do with her head being at chest level to Ghada.

(1/3)
>>
Ghada lets go of Mortia after a few brief moments and makes her way to you, wrapping you up in her arms tightly. You return the hug, reminded briefly of your grandmother. Then again your grandmother is probably centuries Ghada's junior. She releases you after a time and steps back, wiping a touch of moisture from the corner of her eye, first addressing you. “Gods, who will I haggle with now? This entire village seems composed of limp dicked farmers who'll pay whatever I ask.”

She turns to Mortia. “And where will I find a mind as bright as yours? I can say with certainty you're the most talented young alchemist I've ever seen. Hopping over from some-” She waves a hand vaguely to her left. “-other dimension, or what have you, and mastering the local herbs in a day's time! A day's! Not to mention, the sweetest little girl. Do be good.”

Mortia is a shade of scarlet you didn't know humans could reach. You merely smile. “Oh, I'm sure we'll meet again at some point. If not in this life, then the next.”

Ghada smirks. “Hopefully next time I won't be an old dried up widow when we meet. You should have seen me when I was Mortia's age! I had my husband wrapped around my finger, the man jumped through hoops for me. With good reason.” She winks before retreating to her spot at her table and beginning to pluck the chicken. “Well, I wish you the best. Don't die out there in the big wide world, or else you'll make an old woman cry. That goes for both of you!”

The two of you depart, and make your way back to the carriage in short order. You find it waiting right where you left it, and after briefly greeting Darzi and Chrys in driver's bench you climb in to find Zahak dominating the spot you were sitting in before everyone climbed off to enjoy delicious pastries. He takes up three seats all for himself, but you and Mortia manage to squeeze inside. Zahak proceeds to climb across Profectus and Tertia's laps to rest his head in yours, pinning those two to the seats in the process.
>>
A moment later the carriage jerks into motion, and you're off! It feels strange to leave the temple after so long, you'd only just really begun to get cozy. Your first stop is, of course, the foothills of the mountains. Even that is probably about an hour away, so you've got some time. You note that Profectus is struggling to pry a deck of cards out of his bag, but having some trouble due to Zahak's bulk. Tertia just seems vaguely afraid. After all, she does have a dragon in her lap. Most people would probably be terrified.

As for the 2nd point. I can agree that it's dangerous as fuck. If what you quoted is true. Sounds like it would be true. But going to bed and on my phone.

I'm going to go on a limb here and say from now on, whenever we meditate we should try to make it a group meditation, having Zahak meditate with us, at the very least.
>>
You get as comfortable as you can manage. You'd pet Zahak with a flame-wreathed hand, but you are inside right now. Wouldn't want to burn down your carriage. That would just be unfortunate.

Profectus manages to pry his deck of cards out of his bag, but before he can begin dealing you address him and Tertia both. “I came across a bit of information while I was reading a few days-well, I guess about two weeks ago. Anyway, are you familiar with void creatures?”

Profectus nods brusquely, but Tertia simply shakes her head back and forth slowly. “What's the void, and what are creatures from it like? How could creatures even exist in a void? If a void is an empty space, the existence of creatures within the void would no longer make it a void.”

You wave a hand dismissively. “Let's not get into semantics. The void is a realm between our reality and the origin point of magic. We're separated from the void by a sort of buffer zone, but spirits originally hail from the void. They're void creatures which escaped into our reality. The void itself seems to have some sort of hierarchical system of ranks for the beings dwelling within.”

Profectus interrupts. “Wait, did you say spirits were void creatures? How can you be sure? Spirits have been on here for far longer than any of the civilized races. They've been here even longer than the dragons-” Zahak hisses when Prof says this, craning his neck back to glare at Prof. You're sort of shocked he understood what Prof said, but proud that he's picking up so quickly on the language, even if the language he's picking up on is Rhynian.”

After Zahak calms down and returns his head to your lap, Profectus continues. “Well, my point is they've been here a while. We've no reason to believe they came from the void.”
(1/5)
>>
>>36557878
>you are now imagining Mik, Prof and SK posing at each other in their flashiest poses
>>
>>36557957
Probably when it has to do with Fire magic, mostly. Even then, not every time.
>>
You're a little curious as to why he seems so defensive of spirits, but continue on with the point you're trying to make instead of questioning him. “I read in the Varistha's notes that spirits originated in the void and more come through every now and again. They start off as more or less lacking personality, but as they grow older they come to adopt personality. They also reproduce by latching onto the soul of a mortal and leeching it slowly of vys. Until they've accumulated enough power to split themselves in two. Considering I don't know of any other thousand year old Vatis with contrary opinions, I'm inclined to trust the Varistha.”

Profectus relents. “I'll admit, it's hard to argue against that level of experience. Still, what does this have to do with the two of us?”

You reach into your cloak, withdrawing the helmet of your Warlock Armor and sliding it over your head. It clicks shut, that spike at the rear shooting into your spine. You flinch, biting your lip to prevent from shouting out. Eventually the pain subsides. You're not sure why that was so much more painful than usual, but it was. Regardless you channel just a touch of vys and the world explodes into color. The world just somehow seems lush and full. It's like you're finally seeing the world as it actually is, and not as you simply wish to see it.

Profectus' and Tertia's arms are roiling balls of flame and anger. Vys pours out of them like water surging from a fountain. They don't seem to have much in the way of reserves that aren't crammed into their stone arms. Oddly enough, the way the fire in their arms flows seems synchronized. They move in exactly the same way at exactly the same time. It's a little eerie.

(2/5)

You don't see any ambient vys. Well, you do but not in the form you're used to seeing it. It appears as ghostly tendrils which snake their way through the surroundings, passing around and through your companions. Much of the ambient vys seems to be collapsing into Zahak, yourself, or your cloak. However, all of your companions seem to be drinking it in. Perhaps it is not vys after all? One usually must focus to absorb vys. They seem to distort the world around them into a strange, warped reflection.

Your dragon has a bright, glowing core. It's a roiling ball of fire where his heart ought to be. More than that, though, two spirits are sitting on his chest with their hands held towards that core. Like they're warming themselves at a campfire. They're identical, both solid black and seemingly made of ash. An angry red light seems to flicker from beneath cracks in their flesh, roiling across the entirety of their forms in waves. They, too, are synchronized. Just like Tertia and Profectus.

They seem to take notice of you, and vanish in a flash. You cut off the flow of vys and drop back into the world you're familiar with, Daintily removing the helmet and healing the hole in the back of your neck before sliding the helmet back into your cloak. “You've both got spirits attached to your arms, I believe. They're parasites, leeching off your power. Either that or they're the cause of your power. I honestly can't say. Perhaps the Rhynians attempted to fuse you with spirits and your stone arms are the result.”

You shrug. “So congratulations, I suppose. I imagine you're rather unique.”

Silence has fallen over the carriage, but you don't really take notice. Instead you focus your thoughts on the connection to Demetrios' mind afforded to you by the brooches. {My friend! It has been some time since we last spoke. I'm sure you'll be glad to know I've finally attained Grandmastery of Water magic.}

Demetrios' response is emphatic. {That's fantastic! I wondered why I could not reach you. I feared the worst, my friend, the worst! Listen, I have big news! We've released the first edition of the rule book and sales have been absolutely fantastic. The publicity demonstrations have worked beautifully. We are making money hand over fist! However, the revenue stream is drying up. We're having trouble making new book sales now that most of the interest within the University has dried up. We've got a lot of excess books that we still had to pay for. We also haven't started up the selling of figurines, yet. We've accumulated a significant stock of figures, but hardly enough to sate the demand of the general public.}

>Offer to teach novices or those who seem otherwise uninterested and give more demonstrations.
>Lower the prices on books and begin selling to the general public immediately; leaving them wanting for more is a good thing!
>Just sit on it for a while, you'll let the Vatis enjoy their exclusive new game for a few months then release a new edition they'll have to buy If they want to be hip and cool.

There was a lot of interest in Siege at the water temple I just left. How much would it cost to ship a few rule books out there?

Sit on it for a while, then release to the public after giving the vatis their exclusive second edition?
I don't know how business works.
Anyway, we should tell him we'll be going to El-Amin, so we might be able to do some business there. Don't mention our unbanishment, just thathe doesn't have to worry.

We're stopping in El-Amin, I bet we could drum up a lot of interest. If we take the gm test we can also show off our game afterwards for maximum publicity. We should mention to Demetrios that we are going to take that test, and that people will surely be interested in what we have to sell once we pass.

Expand into Pidjata, and when money starts to dwindle there too, unleash 2E.
Maybe pop a few "hero units" at regular intervals to keep the hype up.

We need to hire some writers/artists to flesh out Siege!.
>Archmagos Megalos as hero unit of the Nature Faction.
>Shezade as the Big E equivalent.
>Deme+Chryss mix as Earth.
>Fulvia+Oud gal as Metal.

>Kadir as a joke unit.

GUYS!
Guys.
We really need to make good o that idea from way back and play some board games with Zahhak.
Also teach him Siege later maybe, not now though because we'd be the only one he can play against.
But learning to keep to the rules and not going all out would be good for him, maybe, though he's probably already pretty polite in that regard.

>teach those novices!

We shouldn't pull from reality, at least not anything recent. I think pulling from legends would be a better way to go, like the original Zahak story. We should probably change the names and slight details, even though you can't really plagiarise mythology.

We could also add some cool Siege! gods, mirroring the metal god Dhatu and stuff: familiar enough to be relatable, different enough to be interesting.

How about we introduce different formats for different powerlevels like in MTG?
>>
>>36558259
I don't know about gods, Surya and Pani would be quite obvious, we can't really change that, and bringing back Dhatu and possibly the rest into common knowledge, I'd rather do differently.

>set up communal areas with limited rules and free to use armies! not enough for everybody to use at the same time. sell full sets nearby.

Then why could they hide after we saw then? Their Vys reserves also corroborates the Var var's notes.

>>36558004
>They don't seem to have much in the way of reserves that aren't crammed into their stone arms.

I really don't see why should we operate under the assumption they aren't life threatening. With the Var var's notes and our own eyes telling us otherwise.
>>
>>36558515
>I really don't see why should we operate under the assumption they aren't life threatening. With the Var var's notes and our own eyes telling us otherwise.
because cutting it off could kill them is one option that can happen.

>They're parasites, leeching off your power. Either that or they're the cause of your power. I honestly can't say. Perhaps the Rhynians attempted to fuse you with spirits and your stone arms are the result
This basically suggest that they are fused as one being, also we should ask fulvia what she can tell us about this and if there are any places with more info.
Just cutting something off isn't always the right answer.

That's "us" (Mik) talking, it says quite literally "Perhaps" because we don't know what the Rhynians did. Unless we have actual source better than the Var var that tells that what we are seeming isn't what the Var var describe we should probably be worry about their lives.
