Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you finally left the Temple and set course for the near-by mountains, with your ultimate destination being El-Amin.

You think on your options for a moment. {There seems to be a lot of interest in Siege! In my homeland of Pidjata. I can tell you I spent several weeks at a temple just recently and gave a demonstration there, it's already caught on though I doubt they're using anything resembling the official rules. I'll tell you what, my brother is a fairly powerful merchant and a man of noble birth. If we could get him, or perhaps one of his less annoying associates, involved in our little enterprise we could open up a whole new market.}

A flash of genius strikes. {Then! Then in a few months time we come out with a new edition! Yes, yes. We'll include new factions, fix mistakes and exploits in the original edition, new classes... and hero units! Famous figures from myth and legend, or even local political figures. Maybe with their names slightly altered. We'll sell the hero units at a marked up price and grant them special editions to be found in the rule book! Oh! Oh! And rulebooks for every faction you need to buy separately! With lore, and additional rules!}

There's a brief pause before Demetrios responds. {I can't think of any man alive with quite your sense for finding money. It's almost eerie. That's perfect! I'll ramp up production and hire more scribes as well as additional Vatis. I'll leave the foreign contact in your capable hands, my friend.}

You chat for a time about possible new factions you might introduce in '2e' as you've taken to calling it. A faction composed entirely of automatons would be interesting, exclusive to metal vatis unless people wish to buy figurines. Perhaps a faction of void entities as well, though you're not entirely sure how to model those sorts of units. Perhaps Earth models painted a different color, or crafted from obsidian. Those would serve quite well as some sort of luxury model.

After that, the two of you speak of inconsequential matters. You tell him about your recent stay in the temple, and attaining Grandmastery. You tell him that you no longer have any reason to fear wandering Pidjata despite being an Aghtaki, though you don't go into great detail. You also mention your next destination, the Pa'vala after a brief stop in El-Amin. After that you bid farewell.

Focusing once more on your immediate surroundings you find Profecus poking and prodding at his arm. It cracks open and seals itself off, the excess stone that builds up whenever it seals itself simply deteriorating. You can tell he's rapidly draining his reserves, but it's good to see he's using his talent with magic to make his life easier. Once he realizes the benefits of improving his skill, he ought to be more motivated to improve.

Tertia is the one who notices you're no longer zoned out talking to the voices in your head. “So, what does it mean to be bound with a spirit? Will we die? I would not think so, we have been bound together for more than a thousand years, since before the fall of Rhynia. If the spirits were to kill us, surely they would have done so by now. Do you not agree?”

You shrug your shoulders, folding your hands behind your head and leaning into the plush leather seat. “Perhaps, perhaps not. Maybe whatever the Rhynians used to keep you alive and unaged for so long, stasis or what have you, prevented the spirits from acting upon your reserves. I will say you're both exceptionally weak in terms of vys. My newborn son-” You pause to scratch at the base of Zahak's horns. “-Is more powerful than both of you combined.”

Profectus protest. “To be fair, Mik, your newborn son is a dragon. I'm honestly shocked you're stronger than your own newborn son.”
>>
You shrug your shoulders. “It's a close thing, if I'm being honest. In the week I've been asleep his power has grown significantly. I must admit that I worry he'll outpace me. If he does, I can only hope paternal loyalty will win out over the desire to rule.” Zahak nuzzles into your side, horns digging into you painfully. You don't particularly mind, it's a clearly affectionate gesture judging by the wealth of pleasant emotions pouring through the vague connection the two of you share.

It's only a short while later that the cart comes to a sudden stop. Only moments after Chrys opens the cabin's door and pokes her head in. She speaks in her usual deadpan. “We have arrived in the foothills, any further and we would find ourselves scaling a vertical cliff face.”

There is a fair bit of jostling, shoving, wriggling, and Profectus even catches an elbow in the mouth. Eventually Tertia manages to dislodge herself from beneath Zahak, who shows no inclination to move. In fact he seems to be quite amused by the struggles of weaker beings, from what you can gather from his thoughts.

I dunno man, some pride is okay, but I1d rather he not get a superiority complex, or at least act respectful even if he thinks them inferior.
You know, like we do! Just, not like we used to, but like we will now that we have a cool head.

Soma has confirmed there's no "evil genetics" in place, so being a dick with a superiority complex is not normal by nature.
I mean, we can probably at least get him more polite.
I'm really quite pissed that we did that 12 day GM shit when he was still only a few days old, we missed so much of his development and time to influence him and bond with him.

Are you talking about The Collector, or the Death Angel one?
I don't know why you would expect the former to contact us, and the latter probably doesn't have anything for us to do. I don't see many people selling their souls for a hit.
>>
>>36559693
I wonder how the actual ritual of selling ones soul for a hit works.

Probably quite similar to the method by which our own soul passed into the void during our last meditation.

OH WAIT, SHE DOESN'T HAVE A SOUL, NO EMOTIONS! Tough shit bitch.
She probably doesn't know who we are by the way.
Anyway, we should probably keep clear of her as best as we can.
Because I mean seriously.
She's supposed to be some warrior princess, and we're pretty pleb tier at the moment.
And she probably has a personal army, or some elite trained squad at her beck and call.
>>
>>36559739
I think it's funny how nobody picked up on and mentioned how the new Varistha had been working with her back at her previous situation. Probably a part of the same inner circle.

We should avoid her, but she has no reason to know that it was us that "botched" the assassination

You gently scold Zahak, though you don't really discourage his actions. Using a mix of emotional reinforcement and language you try and explain what it is to be a noble, what it means to truly be better than others. {Zahak, I will give you the same speech that my father gave me when I was but a young boy, much like yourself. Perhaps slightly less reptilian. He told me: “Son, there are three types of people in the world. Nobles, commoners, and non-Samjan. It is with the nobles that the responsibility to rule lies, and it is with commoners that the responsibility to labor lies. However, that does not mean a lord should run his people ragged. He ought to treat them with fairness, respect, and generosity. For even the wealthiest, most powerful nobleman can be brought down by a mob of angry farmers.”}

You pause, for effect more than anything else. {Do you understand, Zahak? Though you indeed are better than others, better than humans and elves certainly, you must still treat them well. Even you may suffer death by one thousand cuts, especially young as you are. Unless of course it's funnier to be disrespectful, but you should only opt for the funny option with those lesser peoples that you are familiar and friendly with.}

No reason we know of, but better safe than sorry.
It's magic, they ain't gotta explain shit.

Zahak seems to take your words to heart, lifting his tail so that Profectus can escape from underneath him and climb out after Tertia, sighing in relief. The two of them talk in private for a time, outside of the cart. You can only pick up bits and pieces, but it's rather sappy if you're being honest. You can barely stomach it. After a time they share a drawn out kiss. You hear Darzi clear her throat after things started to get a little too heated to be truly appropriate in front of a carriage full of people, even for parting lovers.

Finally Profectus rejoins you in the carriage. He looks lost, in a way. Emotionally drained. In a word, he looks depressed. He climbs back to his spot and slumps into the chair, mopey as can be. Gods, you hope he's not going to be like this the whole time. You also absentmindedly wonder whether or not he'll be as keen to bang hookers as he was in Anthus after meeting Tertia. Perhaps he'll clean up his act to some extent?

I guess we can tell him that he can stay if he really wishes.

>>36560140
Considering we've smelled iron from blood before, it may make sense for Mik to think of it that way.
But I don't think anyone less than a master of metal and a GM of water would be able to actually put that into practice with precision.

You lean out the door and call up to Darzi and Chrys in the driver's bench. “Lets get moving! We've got a lot of ground to cover between here and El-Amin.” You bow low to Tertia as Darzi cracks the whip in the air, the camels jolting into motion at the noise. You close the door once you've put some distance between the carriage and Tertia, who stands there for quite some time watching your party roll away. You feel a touch bad for her, but she ought to manage just fine. Hopefully Profectus will get a chance to see her again at some point.

Once you've set off you plop down in your original position, slapping Profectus on the shoulder as you maneuver past him. It's a companionable gesture, a sign of solidarity. {If you need to talk, Prof, I'm willing to listen. I understand what it's like to go through a heartbreak.} You don't, really. You've never been in a true relationship. You've always been far too busy studying, despite your master's urgings to go out and get laid, as he so often put it.

Profectus hauls himself and picks up his deck of cards, beginning to shuffle rapidly and with surprising skill. {I'll be alright, Mik. I just need a little time is all. Time to my thoughts.} He transmits this to you privately, but outwardly he puts on a brave face. “Who's in for cards? I'll take your money if you're willing to offer it!” He delivers the line with a sloppy grin, as if he doesn't have a care in the world. It's impressive, in a sense.

Just to clarify, I hadn't intended on having you do the Meditation on Reality. Just regular meditation. There isn't really anything inherently magical about trying to remember all that you've learned and put it all together. If y'all want to, you can. DCs would need to be adjusted though.

Real talk, being the PC doesn't mean we're the final arbiter.
This ain't like yo' Fable games sonny boi.
It was obvious he had mixed feelings. If he didn't then he wouldn't have had the reaction he did. The conceit is believing in deciding when its right for him to take the step that he has to on his own.

>>
>>36560489
To some extent. But that doesn't mean we're the final arbiter. There's a large difference between "some extent" and "it goes exactly as we say even when being inconsiderate of other's feelings." And this difference is that, dum bum.
>>
>>36560499
Its considered normal, by other vatis.
>>
Just to clarify something in this whole Profectus argument. While Profectus is fairly weak willed as far as folks go he still has enough spine to leave the party if he really wants to. In fact, he's voiced such thoughts previously. That he wasn't cut out for the party and was thinking about leaving.

The vote was for whether or not he OUGHT to leave the party if he cares about the girl. You would've been encouraging him to leave, not merely offering him the chance to.
>>
>>36560507

>>
>>36560510
Aye, tha's what I thought. Dirty elf fecker an' his dirty elf autonomy.

Both with Zahhak and our family.
Oh yeah, also like, maybe talk with Chrys I guess.

I bet you want some stupid gruesome shit, but even then you're not doing very well, first thing I can come up with for gruesome is freezing the inside of his lungs, but that's stupid, inefficient, and cruel.
The guy doesn't deserve torture or being shamed this hard. Just a quick death and done.
>>
>>36560752
Occam's razor,
>>
IF we start experimenting with dead things, we should buy a chicken, kill it, then try to revive it, then we can make the revived chicken walk into the cloak for Ricky.
>>
>>36560752
Okay, so here's the revised plan.

We animate his armor to lead him off a cliff and cripple him, and then break his jaw and animate it to mime a bunch of nonsense in front of Chrys (for fun), and then we go enchanting-modo and take his soul and put it in a goat in which we give to Chrys as a sacrificial marriage present. The Goat's soul of course we put into his body, which we then cut up and splice with the sacrificed goats' parts and then have it follow us around for a bit before having Zahhak eat it.
>>

Sounds great. We'd probably have to meditate a few times in-between each of those things, though.

You stand, clapping your hands together to get everyone's attention. “Well my friends, I leave you to your game. I believe I will excuse myself to the loft and meditate.”

Profectus groans. “Gods above and below, Mik. Meditate, read, handle crisis, repeat. Seems to be all you do. You need to learn to relax. You're probably screwed in the head because you push yourself so hard.”

Fulvia nods brusquely in agreement. “In the one-thousand-three-hundreth year after the founding of Rhynia, it was found that there was a strong correlation between the workload of a Vatis and their propensity to go inside. This after controlling for the natural tendency for Vatis to go insane at a higher rate compared to non-Vatis. As age increased, the percentage of Vatis who went insane likewise increased. Taking into account the additional risk you face as an adventurer and you play a dangerous game, Mikhael. The odds are stacked against you.”

You find this speech ironic coming from a woman, or rather a golem, who's happily gambling at cards with enough money to buy a house on the line. Instead of voicing your annoyance, you merely shrug. “I do what I must, perhaps I will have a chance to rest in my next life. We shall simply have to see, won't we?” With that, you brace your foot against a recess in the back of the seat and haul yourself into the loft above.

No, we should make a huge ice sculpture that's just us fucking Chrys while her husband looks on.
>>
The loft is a cramped space, with you sitting up as you are. However, were you to lay down it would likely be quite comfortable. You do so, absentmindedly wondering if you'll find it difficult to meditate laying on your back. Your master taught you the best position was sitting up with your back straight and your legs folded beneath you, hands on your knees. However, sprawled out on your back with your legs together and hands at your sides is not too far different, and it is far more comfortable. Especially on the padded floor of the loft. You've even got a window up here. Very peaceful. Perhaps your master discouraged laying down to meditate only because it ran the risk of you falling asleep instead of falling into a trance.

You close your eyes and focus inwards, on your thoughts. It takes you some time to slip into a trance, but eventually you manage it. The ebbs and flows of ambient vys fade into view. Of course, this being Pidjata, vys is everywhere. Your people's lands have always been particularly rich in magic. You set about gathering your vys, while contemplating the events which occurred when you last meditated. The gateway you discovered and the pain you experienced.

You notice something subtle, something you wouldn't have picked up on otherwise. That persistent ache in your chest, it hasn't gone away. You'd merely been ignoring it. It's slight, barely more than an inconvenience really. However, there's a gap. Something missing. It's not so much an ache as a sort of tightness, but not the sort that comes from regret, longing, or absence. Rather you feel like you have too much of something. You can't quite put your finger on what.

You slip gradually deeper into your trance as you regenerate vys. You slip into the same mental state you used when you first enchanted Zahak's blanket. Your soul fades slowly into view, that glowing golden orb. You note that it seems larger than you last saw it, but only slightly. You also note it's flecked with spots of bright, brilliant blue throughout. While beautiful, you're more concerned about the other new addition. A white spot, right in the center. It seems to pulse in time with your heart beat, alternatively swelling and shrinking over time. A knot of pure vys, from what you can tell.

Endurance flagging, sleep imminent.

I'll stop now.

Nice spelling there, Soma.
>>36560900
Wow, such an easy choice!
Okay, how about we leave it be for now, and instead do it with our Master present so he can try to save us from anything horrible happening? How far are we from El-Amin, Soma? if les sthan a day, then I say wait.
By the way, have you been using a secure trip? It's pretty impressive to have it broken that many times, in that case.
>>
>>36560900

>Attempt to unravel it.

Ripping it out sounds.. not smart.

Please tell me that's not a newborn/embryo spirit latching on to our soul.
>>
>>36560900
>pulse in time with your heart beat
...And we got it from going into the Heart of Surya?
HMMM.
>>
>>36560900
Huh would doing this 2 more times give us pure vys?
I wonder what it does.
Also soma did we take a sanity hit?
>>
>>36560908
>Nice spelling
It's 4: 30 o'clock in the morning, AM time. I got's an excuse nigras.

Fuck, okay. That's a pretty funny mistake.

Alright, I think I'll call it here for the night. I'm tired.

I'll start next thread with
>Attempt to unravel.

And call for rolls first thing.
>>
>>36560950
Nah, unraveling will cause our soul to be ripped apart as we unravel into nothingness
>>
>>36560950
Don't forget
>Write-in
>Destroy the entire continent and create a portal into the Void, large enough that millions of monsters pour through and eventually wipe out all life on the planet, before finding a portal and proceeding onto the other dimension. And then another. And another. Also they'll go out into space to kill those aliens, too.
>>
>>36560950
>Die
Why?
>>
>>36560956
Good night Soma. See you Friday perhaps.
>>
>>36560956
Thanks for running.
So next thread in a couple of hours, yeah?
>>
>>36560923
>>36560956
We are gonna be a MOMMY too!!
>>
>>36560968
An excess of vys will kill you, an excess of soul probably will too, and I imsgine whoever maintains the universes strings will be pissy that there's a knot in the system. They'll probably just kill us to fix it
>>
>>36560971
If you define ~36 as a couple, yes.
>>
>>36560972
I wonder if we can use Animate on it so that it has it's own source of Vys.
>>
>>36560956

Sleep well, but are you sure you don't want to do the rolls now so you know what the results are when you start writing friday?
>>
>>36560980
>Eh, what's that little knot there? Poke it, poke it!
>Ahahaha, what did you do you moron, you popped it!
>What a shame.
>>
>>36560982
Yo dawg, I heard you like magic. So we put magic, in yo magic. So you can cast, while you cast.
>>
>>36560985
This. Can just look back at this thread for them.
>>
>>36560992
If you use Animate on a soul, can you create a soul within a soul? Can the soul then gain its own personality?
>>
>>36561007
What if you take souls from people and artifacts and then put them into your own soul, with an without being animated?
>>
>>36561007
I want a tulpa, let's do this.
>inb4 infernal screeching
>>
>Guys come one, let's go in the gate, who cares what Varvar said, it'll be fun!
>Oh come on guys, we really should walk into more gates, that was totally cool and not ominous or bad!
>Guys look, an abnormal little piece of pure vys on our soul, let's unravel it in a cart with our party!
>>
>>36561067
I'm going to set up a botnet to vote to go into open gates constantly just to spite you.
>>
>>36561082
Alright.
All good things must end at some point.
>>
>>36561082

I will join in your endeavour, anon.
>>
>>36561082
As if you'd need botnets. All you have to do is argue against doing something in an incessant and annoying way and then everyone will go to the side you actually want them to vote for to spite you.

Eheh.
>>
So, what are those blue spots on our soul? Sign of being a water GM?
>>
>>36561133
Vys we picked up from being in Surya's heart. That was blue, right?
>>
>>36561082
>>36561118
Wow, I bet you were two of the faggots who voted to put the mask on.
Even if this isn't that bad, voting for something stupid just to spite someone you can just hide is fucking moronic.
>>36561137
I'm fairly sure it was white.
>>
>>36561175

You know me to well. I'm actually sniggering here.

Like minds think alike
>>
>>36560900
Why didn't we get an option to try and erode it with Earth magic?
>>
So we're about to try messing with some foreign entity attached to our soul while riding in the loft of a cart pulled by camels on the desert, while any mild bump in the road can pull us out of meditation?
>>
>>36561688

Pretty much. No worries though. What could go wrong?
>>
Quick question before I finish catching up (I hardly ever catch these live, on the previous thread now), is there an active temple for each main element? We've just spent a ton of time in the water temple but could we just as easily go to the fire/earth/nature temples?
>>
I still think we should try water magic on the soul to heal it.
>>
>>36561740

There's probably fire temples that worship Surya, but I doubt there's temples to the other elements, because the gods of those elements aren't known anymore. In the plus side, that metal book we got might lead us to something equivalent for metal, but we've got no clues right now for nature and earth.
>>
>>36561740
How did you not catch any of the several mentions that there are only fire and water temples?
>>
>>36561798
Thats a pretty good question. I'm not sure
>>
Well, we're past bump limit so we might as well do some power sperging.
What do you guys think about the idea of levitation? We could fake it somewhat by making some legs/tentacles out of vys or something.
Obviously not as cool as flying, but still.
Would be useful.
>>
>>36561067
Good keep bitching and see what happens, it's been proven that the mask shit only won thanks to one anons constant bitching.
>>
Anyone archiving this thread?
>>
>>36562399
Hopefully someone is. I'll provide a description if needed.
>Mik talks business, talks friendship, and tal-SHIT FUCK WHAT IS THAT?!
Sorry it's so shit.
>>
>>36562399
Done.

Hopefully I didn't fuck anything up.
>>
Whoever was saying to store a shit ton of ice in our cloak, first of all the cloak destroys all magic/vys constructs, so the ice wouldn't stay as ice, and we couldn't manipulate it while it's inside the cloak or next to it anyway.
Second of all:
>>Survival
>9x barrels of water. (~3 months of water)
But I can see how getting more barrels is a good idea.
>>
>>36563383
So what if it would melt? Just jam a cup in and ask ricky for a drink, we aren't dealing with a retard here, he's not gonna launch all the water out of the cloak
>>
>>36563613
I'm not sure Ricky can handle liquids with his tentacles, mate.
And we might as well get more barrels in and keep some cups inside to he can give us a cup full of water whenever we want.
It seems gimmicky to go this route, and not the efficient/effective gimmicky, is all.
>>
>>36563383
>first of all the cloak destroys all magic/vys constructs, so the ice wouldn't stay as ice
It would stay as ice since magically frozen water does not count as a being constructed out of magic.
>>
>>36563703
I seem to remember Soma saying that Ice would only stay as ice near the cloak if it wasn't turned into ice with water.
May be wrong, but I think it makes sense, considering water we pull from the air just disperses as well when near the cloak.
>>
In any case we should get some more stuff, and maybe a few more tents or perhaps a bigger one to serve as a medical one like we joked about in one of the previous threads
>>
>>36563744
+4 GM healing mate
We ARE the medical tent.
