Finally, you manage to break out of Valeriana and Irene's stranglehold and sneak out of the ship's cargo hold, leaving the two to their tailoring frenzy.

...But not before letting them taking your measurements for future reference. You suspect that they want to make even more costumes for you, since they have the material for it and nothing to do until you return to Tianna.

You got what you came for, after all: a dress appropriate for prayer, tied in a bundle in your hands. The soft fabric feels warm at the touch, with Valeriana's Essence still lingering on it.

You need to return to Tianna fast, and you had an idea: to ask to an appropriate god to speed up your journey back home.

The alternative is to get all the Exalted in your fleet on one or two ships, and have Mikahil and Karas speed them up with their charms. Then let the rest of the fleet fall back and focus on getting just your most powerful warriors back in town.

The truce with the Abyssals expires at midnight, which is to say, about now, and, despite the (modestly) favorable wind, you're still a full day of sailing from Tianna. Who knows what might be happening right now? Even if Tianna has a well-trained army with First Age weapons, they'll be no match for a large-scale Abyssal attack without some Exalted on their side.

Amata and Zaan are both out of Essence and resting, unable to send magical messages for the moment, so it'll be a bit until you can know what exactly is happening.

>Go along with the prayer, ask a god for intercession to speed your travels.
>Get all Exalted on on undamaged ship and have Mikahil speed you back home with charms.
>Wait until Amata or Zaan regain enough Essence to send a message back to Tianna.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She was in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.
You just discovered the reason everyone seems to be so interested in Tianna: an enormous magical fortress lies buried underground, a relic of the First Age with enough firepower to destroy anything...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Can't we ask multiple gods? I think they'd dislike it even more under the Abyssals than the Lintha.

Thats the problem we could pray to half a dozen gods here.
The Ocean Father, the Western god of travel, the storm mothers, maybe even Siaka.

We ain't gonna pray to the storm-bears, largely because they are assholes and we made a pact with the water court in the region and they would not appreciate that.

Thats actually a good reason to try to appease them, there is a whole bunch of attractive women on these ships, and they aren't gonna like that.
But we are Solars, so prayer from us is worth a whole bunch. And we might as wellt start now getting on their good side.

Only other real option would be the OCean afther or Rudhira, but no one here is a redhead.

>>
>>36560713
Ocean Father is pretty much the only one we could really pray to if Maka knows anything about Western gods.
Storm Mothers hate our ass, Rudhira hates our ass, Siakal would demand a whole bunch of human sacrifice.
And the Stormbears are just plain dicks.
>>
>>36560739
>unless some of that phat Yu Shan corruption goes down and they want a slice of the action to avoid some "tragic accidents"
Thats pretty much how it works. Although a prayer from a Zenith is pretty much all bribery we would need. That shit is worth a lot.
>>
Rolled 4 (1d10)

>>36560748
Might not be enough this time though, I mean we have an urgent need to haul ass and that gives them leverage to basically name their price.

We might have to part with a not insignificant portion of our loot if they realize that they've got us by the tits.
>>
>>36560770
If they figure it like that then not praying to them would be even worse.

You unwrap your bundle and get into the dress Valeriana and Irene have prepared for you. The cloth is soft and brushes pleasantly on your skin, giving off a light tingling sensation.

Stepping outside, you find the ship's crew manning the sails. Heads turn to you, and, as if guessing that something is about to happen, they stop and wait.

"...No, no, continue. I'm just going to do some prayer on the ship's prow. I won't get in your way." You reassure them, walking towards the far end of the Fell-Shark.

You had no idea where Tia went, but here she is again, sneaking out from behind a line of barrels stacked on the deck and tied down, part of the loot you got from the Black Atoll. "You look great." She says, after a short pause spent looking at you.

"Thanks." That felt a bit weird, coming from her.

She sits on one of the barrels, hugging her knees, eyes fixed on you.

Your best hope is the Ocean Father.

You did some reading on western theology in Tianna sime time ago, and, considering everything, he seems the most approachable god in that sphere and with that level of power.

The Zephyr King is hard to communicate with, Rudhira can be jealous and doesn't like seeing women on boats unless they have red hair, Ruvia is difficult to reach, and you can't think of anyone else save for regional or local wind, current, travel, ship or sea gods, which would be more easy to persuade but less powerful.

And you're not doing this just to get a bit of speed: being on good terms with important local gods will help you in the long run, and you need to pick you allies well.

You look down, at the dark sea cutting itself on the ship's advancing prow. Time to start.

You walk up to the barrels Tia is sitting on, and untie one from the rig, lifting it up in your hands. Dried tobacco, by the aroma.

She cocks her head, looking at you as if wondering what you're about to do, but just watches as you set it down closer to the ship's prow and then walk up to the very end of it.

Now, the crew has stopped again, looking at you.

You begin your steps. You don't have a dance planned, moving on instinct and improvisation. The light, rolling movement of the ship inspires you, suggesting steps and movements to your limbs.

The space available around you is narrow, but, rather than take it as a limitation, you work around it as a challenge. You lick the barrel up in the air, landing it on the top of your head and keeping it balanced for a few seconds before letting it fall down, upright, on the tip of the prow. Then, you leap on top of it, finishing your last steps on that tiny, raised platform.

"Lord of the West!" You call out to the dark sea, as your castemark blazes in full view and breaks the dark of the night, spreading a soft glow around you. "I need to talk to you. My name is Maka, Chosen of the Unconquered Sun!"

Well, we only need to get there before midnight. The ship doesn't have to survive the trip. I doubt we could repair her if she's that destroyed

There's an abyssal pirate that works for the Tyrant.

He sails psycho fast and is totally undetectable at night.

And from the black sea rises a black mass of water, then a white spray as a figure rises from the depths of the ocean.

You see before you, his feet planted on a circular isle of pond-like tranquility in the middle of the sea in front of the ship's prow, a handsomely rugged middle-aged man. His skin is dark green-blue, his hair as black as the ocean at night, right now, and flows from his head down like an endless wave of water.

"Hail, Maka, Pillar of Heaven." He salutes you, raising a hand. His figure is well-proportioned, but entirely out of human scale, as his eyes are level with yours despite him standing on the sea's surface. The ship is still advancing, driven by its sails, but somehow the god keeps standing still at a fixed distance from you. "It is good to talk to you."

"Likewise." you reply, trying to hide your nervousness. Despite everything, he's an extremely powerful god and it's the first time you deal with someone in his league like this...

...Well, the Unconquered Sun doesn't count. He's different.

"Accept on my and everyone's behalf this small gift from the spoils of our victory." You tell him, throwing the barrel of tobacco at him.

He catches it, the wooden container smacking on his huge hand, which then closes around it. "Thank you. I receive much prayer, and many sacrifices, but few are as sweet as this. Why did you call on to me?"

And we have been rather Militant in our endeavours.

I reallz also think we should inquire about the gods opinion or disposition towards the Lintha and the Abyssals.

I mean, we most likely want to consider a preemptive strike on the lintha once we have the Abyssal situation covered, and we are going to war on his waters with the damned Abysalls so those are rather pertient questions since we might have some support from his side in our war or know what to stay clear of or whatever. Just to make sure.

And especially if we go Pirate Queen Maka to get a massive Naval power knowing about his disposition to our enemies and disposing them in conjuction with him if he dislikes them should give us a nice home field advantage in these waters if they cooperate with us, against future lintha, Abyssals, and perhaps later on possible Realm Expeditions.
>>
Rolled 7 (1d10)

>>36561579
For Zenith castes, in the First Age Zeniths used to be called that because they would mediate between the gods and the mortals, providing stability throughout the realm.
>>
>>36561694
Actual support is probably asking too much, he is literally the busiest god in the west.
That he sows up to us in person at all is a huge sign of respect for Maka and her position.

He definitly won't support us against others this directly, because it gets him in trouble with other western deities. Gods of his power just don't do that.
We can get a favor here and there if we ask for it and make the proper sacrifices.
But he won't work against others on our behalf.
>>
Rolled 8 (1d10)

>>36561720
I'll bet the only reason he's met us in person is because we're a zenith solar who just led a force that destroyed a lintha hell ship that would regularly pollute his ocean.
>>
>>36561694
Abyssals maybe, depends on how good with the Western Courts the Tyrant is.
But definitly not Lintha or anyone else, the Lintha heavily bribe local gods and have been doing that for a long time, he is powerful, but he spends nearly all his time keeping the Western Courts together.
And while Maka doesn't know it, helping her at all is already a serious political risk for him, one of the reasons we asked him is because he likes Solars and is powerful enough to carry that kind of political baggage.
>>
>>36561741
We might be the first Zenith or Solar who prayed to him since the Usurpation.
Thats probably the important part.
>>
Rolled 2 (1d10)

>>36561720
Well, not constant intervention, but being favourably disposed to do us a favour now and again, it should be a nice bonus on big or important things that happen on the seas in the west.

Knwing that he personaly likes our work too and likes getting rid of Lintha and Abyssals means that us continuing to do so will form some sort of relationship between the two of us, he grating us the ocasional favour, we ocassionaly taking our a problem he cannot inervene with but dislikes or something of the sort.
>>

Its generally not a good idea to rely in any capacity on gods, especially not gods as powerful as him. Amata got that right at least.
We should be happy with the occasional thing we can get, when we can get it. But most likely this will be ur only personal audience.
>>
"I ask for your help to return this fleet to Tianna as soon as possible, with the utmost speed." You tell him. "I fear that agents of the Deathlords might be attacking it as we speak."

"I will grant you that boon." He nods solemnly. "I suspect that you must be rather in a hurry right now, then."

"I am."

"It would be my pleasure to exchange words with you once the situation calms down. There are some things I would like to ask you, and others I feel you should know."

You try and mask your surprise. "Likewise."

"But it's something that can wait a few days. When you will wish to visit my Sanctum, consider yourself my guest. My temple in Tianna will await your visit."

"There is one other thing I would like to ask you, a personal favor... A Terrestrial fighting alongside us has been lost at sea in the battle, by the name of Rajan Hazaakaa."

"I will send my underlings to search for him around the Black Atoll. Whether he still lives or not, they will endeavor to return him to you."

"Thank you, Ocean Father." You bow to him, and, likewise, he bows back to you, before vanishing back into the sea.

All of sudden, you feel an acceleration that almost knocks you down, and even the entranced sailors behind you struggle to keep the balance, and some actually fall down in surprise. (Tia seems unconcerned.)

Your ship, and all the others in the fleet as well, pick up speed, moving at an amazing pace, far above what either wind or oars could propel them. In unison, the sailors on the deck raise cheers to you and to Ocean Father.

Now, it's just a matter of waiting.

And Maka has really no use for Tempation Resisiting Stance, her Temperance is probably 1 or so.
>>
>>36561846
>>36561865
Well, as soon as we deal with the Abysalls in a way that leaves us in a secure position we would have to shore up their loyalty and their cooperation as a team so when we send them to get our family we can make sure they are properly motivated on a personal level and are willing to do it beyond just our say so.

That and we should send them as fast as we can do because captivity in conditions akin to the ancient world, even for former royalty or tyrands is not nice, especially for them, since they usually end up in a ceremonial beheading or strangulation.

You leap off the Fell-Star back to the new Tianna flagship (you don't remember the name) and head underdeck. You remember hearing that Karas dropped his few things here.

Even though you won the battle, your fleet is not exactly in good order. You lost your flagship, took a lot of damage and losses, and filled your holds with loot, so the entire trip back home is confused and disorganized, with people being spread across the entire fleet, resting and patching themselves up wherever there's space.

You stop in front of the door to his quarters, hearing him talking to someone.

"...and they have this theater with undead actors, so that they can actually kill them on stage! They even redid some popular plays in an extremely bloody and gory way to exploit that."

"...Did you go and see them?" That's Samiel's voice.

"Pssh. Of course not. It's not like I was free to walk around at leisure. I'll admit the idea was brilliant. I mean, I don't understand how people can watch normal theater, it's so dreadfully boring. At least seeing some silly fop spill his guts on the scene can be entertaining the first couple of times I guess. But still, it's all part of this big ruse, this attempt to make Skullstone look like a decent, civilized place. Hide the nasty stuff behind a curtain of civility."

"...With gore-splatter theater?"

"They tried, but... I don't know, maybe when you die you lose all common sense."

Stop trying to force things that are just blatantly out of character so you can watch two dudes fuck each other, theres the entire rest of the internet for that so stop shitting this quest up with it.

Whenever you gay fags bring up your shipping shit you always completely disregard the actual characters involved and how they feel and their stance on things, especially when Samiel has Smoke and Karas doesn't swing that way as its already been established.

How so, no seriously, what about their respective characters makes it impossible for them to like eachother romantically?

Adn then we are going to do murals and statues of ourselves worshiping or praying to the unconquerd sun in Pearl, and Perhaps some other slightly smaller depictions of ourselves all featuring a common symbol so that we already have a inconography for banners imprinted in the heads of people since they are born.

Something akin to Japans Flag of the Rising Sun or something, but with golden colours of course.

anon is on the internet and exagerating, but not untrue in the essence.

In the books it is alwazs noted when one has a preference for men or women and it is never siad that somone swings both ways. Thus meaning that swinging both ways is assumed to be the deafault setting, just as how we see being hetero the default.

And just as romans cared only about who penetrated who, and not if they be man or female, since being penetrated was by default submissive and they had a hard on for dominance.

Difrent cultures have diffrent ideas of norms and normality, and diffrent views on what is healthy sexuality.

"So... were you just locked in a basement somewhere? Or did they put you to work?"

"For the longest time, I thought they had actually forgotten about me. Well, us. I was locked up in a cell with another fifty or so people. Some debtors or criminals, some slaves bought in bulk, some victims of piracy who ended up being part of the prize... they fed us some grey sludge once a day and that's it. When they remembered, at least. In three weeks, half of us were dead. And... not normal dead."

"What do you mean? Dead of what?"

"Maybe hunger, maybe sickness, maybe weakness, maybe just hopelessness or infected wounds, but every time... when someone was about to die, he started screaming. When you heard the screams, you knew someone was dying. Even while sleeping, they just jolted awake, screamed for a minute or two, bam, fall over dead."

"That's not... was that sorcery or something?"

"No idea. I don't know anything about that. But... I heard something from another prisoner there."

"What?"

"Well, they use human flesh for crafting. They use the bones as well, mixing them with steel or enchanting them and shaping them. Eyes are recycled, since high-maintenance zombies need replacements. Teeth and nails are used for decoration and precision parts..."

"...I think I get it. They use everything from the human body. So..."

"...So what about souls? Do they use them too?"

"Do they... rip them off?"

"I have no idea. But, if we were betting, I'd put my money on "yes"."

There's a short pause.

"Did Maka tell you about the Abyssal problems we have in Tianna?"

"A bit. I also asked Amata earlier. Seems like a mess."

"Think they do stuff like that too?"

>>
>>36562209
>So that somehow overrides the fact one is already in a relationship
Ă„h, yhow does it need to override anything? It didn't bother Maka. It didn't stop him from sleeping with maka even though Maka was the lover of his own mother and sister. Let alone Tia being there.
> the other is so far from what he's said, not inclined towards that way
I bet if someone would have used this argument for Maka not sleeping with any guys, you would have gotten really mad and claimed that just sleeping with women so far doesn't prove she is only into women.
>>

Shipping isn't about sleeping with someone. The argument sprung from someone wanting a RELATIONSHIP, a ROMANTIC relationship between the two.

>>36562251
>I actually want to get a full powered hearthstone from that one, but for the manse design I was thinking about a sort of comfort house/hot spring sort of thing
I like both of those ideas. We could use a Hearthstone, since we basically burned Pearl's away to power our city. And a villa-temple with extensive hotsprings seems like the perfect dedication to an elemental court of the island's calm shallows.
>>
>>36562264

Why are you faggots even arguing who's personality fits with whom and whether someone is bi or not? Who we think fits together has absolutely no influence on their relationships. If two guys happen to be bi and get along great, then they will hook up whether you faggots want it or not. This is as dumb as arguing about how the weather on the north pole in five hours should be. You have no absolutely no influence over it or any data to base your arguments on.
>>
>>36562260
Which goes to show pretty clearly he isn't very mad about SV fucking others, and neither would SV herself be mad about this kind of thing, so the argument "he is in arelationshp" doesn't hold any water whatsoever.

Yeah, one of the Water Aspect anima powers is that all TMAs are considered in-aspect, even if they're of non-Water elements. If we get a Water-related martial arts hearthstone, it would almost certainly have to do with either establishing or breaking grapples.
>>
>>36562372

>>36562363
We can't get a 3 dot stone without raising the Demesne to 3, which takes a lot of effort, we can probably do it, but it would depend on EF being willing to handwave the normal time this would take.

There is Kata-Sculpting Gem, mostly good for DBs but it reduces the Essence cost of activating MAs.
Pearl of Wisdom, which helps keeping yourself calm, good for Tia.

And I would be remiss to not mention the possible 3dot stone.
Stone of Gender Transformation.
>>
Rolled 2 (1d10)

>>36562381
Not that I know of, but I'm not exactly an expert on canon hearthstones. That could make sense as a higher-end Water hearthstone, though. You slide right out of grapples, ropes cannot hold you, you can even squirm your way out of a collapsed building with a little effort - that sort of thing.

If I was EF, I'd give it to you, but I'm not sure how EF is balancing hearthstone power levels, since we haven't seen any yet.

You knock on the door and come in during another lull in the conversation.

"Hi guys." You smile to them. "I've gotten Father Ocean to hurry us to Tianna as fast as possible."

"Oh, good." Samiel clenches his fists. "I'm so worried about what's going on there. Do you think they're already attacking?"

Karas shrugs. "I don't know much about Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine, but my idea is that with Deathlords you always have to expect the worst.

"We'll cross that bridge when we'll come to it." Karas is sitting on the bed, Samiel, who has a broken arm tightly bandaged with two wooden splints keeping it straight, is on a chair in front of a small table. A half-full bottle of rum and two copper cups lie on it. "Can I?"

Samiel fills up with his good hand a cup and hands it to you.

"You've never been a big drinker." Karas notes with a grin.

"I can hold my liquor better now." You reply as you down it. The harsh, loud, violent drink fireballs down into your stomach. "What about you? Are you still wearing girl's dresses?"

Samiel, who was about to take a sip as well, nearly chokes on it laughing. "WHAT?"

"YOU PROMISED YOU WOULDN'T TELL ANYONE" Karas screams in panic.

"Whoops, sorry, must've slipped me."

"No, wait." Samiel coughs and gasps for air. "I MUST know."

"Come on. We were, like, six!"

"I was ten and you were nine." You correct him. "And he had accidentally kicked a ball through the window of the Chancellor's office, playing in the courtyard. I told him that I'd not tell on him if he wore one of my dresses."

"...Man, the Immaculates are right after all. You ARE a soulless monster." Samiel laughs. "How was he?"

"Oh, I immediately regretted it when I realized that he was a lot cuter than me in that. In fact, he must have liked it as well because he-"

Don't become completely fixated on the dot rating, if we find a cool hearstone but it's rating is too high or too low we could probably get a power adjusted version.
OldMcdonalds Codex mentions:

The associations of elements and celestial
aspects overlap to some degree. Therefore, manses
of different aspects can sometimes produce functionally
identical hearthstones. For instance, a
hearthstone that augments Martial Arts prowess
could come from a manse aspected to Water (the
Terrestrial caste that favors that Ability) or the
Sidereals (the most profi cient martial artists in
Creation). Storytellers can reassign hearthstones
to different elemental or celestial aspects as they
see fi t, or create duplicate stones.
Hearthstones can also appear in versions of
greater or lesser power. A more powerful stone
might add successes instead of dice, augment a
wider range of activities or otherwise offer greater
benefi ts; a less powerful stone might offer smaller
bonuses to dice pools, operate a limited number
of times per day, require Essence expenditures or
otherwise limit its power.
So could also look at sidereal hearthstones as inspiration for possible waterhearstones

The ocean father wants to talk to us, obviously its going to be something important.
We can get a charm that allows us to indirectly hit people with social attacks.
Mikahil has that plan where we can crash the west's economy. We will get the Siderials attention if we win the game against Plentimon because he will have to call in his salary and other favors so he can pay us.
We have beaten and humiliated Peleps Deled. A wyld hunt will be inevitable. If we start expanding we will have to beat off the realm fleet as well. Perhaps the realm will give us a name like siren of the west

After a bit of idle chatter (and dancing around and avoiding the subject of slugs), you speak your mind to Karas.

"...Actually, I was thinking of a plan to help mom, dad and sis."

He falls silent and waits for you to continue. You have his attention.

"...If they're in Gem, in Rankar's prisons. I was thinking of sending Zareen to Gem. I was about to go and call her, in fact. To check what the situation is, just as a scout... as much as I'd want to break them free, we're fighting on too many fronts and Gem is incredibly distant from here. We can't commit, not unless we're sure..."

He doesn't say anything, but it's clear what he's thinking.

You take a deep breath. "...Yes?" You ask him nonetheless.

"...I don't get it. You don't want to help them? To take back Gem?"

"It's not that simple."

"It IS, bloody hell." He slams his fist on the table with a deep thud. "I haven't gone back to them right away after Exalting only because I heard that you were here in the West, closer to me, and had been Exalted too! It had to be a divine sign. I had to get you on board before returning to Gem."

"And now..."

"And now, I was expecting to set sail with you immediately, as soon as you got out of the fight with the Lintha. I still don't know why you didn't get back right away after Exalting, instead of wasting time in Tianna!"

We would basically lead the most significant military force in the west if we are in conjuction with Tianna.

Money doesn't do anything, you need to buy shit with is, and you need places to buy from. You have only one way to handle this.

"Karas. I am going to say this only once, so listen to me very carefully."

He shuts up.

"I love them. Mom, dad, sis... I love them. I miss them. I miss them so much. But there's too many reasons I can't leave Tianna right now. I have not abandoned them. I WILL save them. I am making plans to help them right now, in fact."

You take a deep, deep breath.

"But if we do this the wrong way, we might put them in even bigger danger. Imagine if we get to Gem and Rankar finds out, and uses them as hostages against us. Or moves them to somewhere where we can't find them. He sold you into slavery in a distant country, after all. Who can tell if he's not going to do that again? Or he already did?"

His eyes sink in as he lowers his head.

"...We need to be careful. This is why I'll send Zareen to scout ahead. And once she finds them, we'll make a plan. I don't want to risk losing both them and Tianna because we acted without thinking."

You glance at Samiel. "...please, be a dear and go call Zareen, in fact."

"Y-yes." He replies, leaving you alone with Karas.

"...I don't get it." He mumbles, after a minute of silence.

"I know. I'm sorry." You reply. "Do you trust me?"

"Yes?"

"Then believe in me."

"It's hard to believe in someone who doesn't explain her reasons."

You bite your lower lip painfully. Are you slowly turning into Amata?

After a few moments, Samiel returns, with Zareen.

"Hi." The dragon-blooded just nods. "Sammy told me what's going on along the way."

"Don't call me 'Sammy'."

"I wouldn't even be thinking about talking to you about this if I didn't have absolute faith in you." You point out to Zareen.

"Cut the crap, Maka. I won't let you down. I'm actually pretty eager to show off a bit with something that's more my style. I don't like naval battles and need something that's more my style. As long as you remember our deal."

Literally no one knows about this stuff. Its something the originator of the Guild though up, and the Empress knew, besides those, basically no one knows this is a thing.
And while his system might help stabilise the West, and the West seriously needs stabilising, it only works really well with Jade or another magic material. The Guild and its silver standard pretty much already does as much as it can in that regard.

Exalted is huge on having realistic consequences for your actions not being something that can be solved just with magic handwaving, and huge restructuring programs of the economy of an entire direction is way beyond the scope of bueraucracy. It would stretch the limits of bueraucracy charms to do it on Tianna alone, but no bueraucracy charm can fix economic problems inflation in an entire direction causes.

"How will she stay in contact?" Karas asks. "A message from Gem will take weeks to get here!"

"Mom has a Sorcery-Capturing Cord. We can give it to her with an Infallible Messenger spell in."

You blink. "What's a Sorcery-Capturing Cord? Does it do what it sounds like it does?"

"More or less." He explains. "It's a short rope. You can use it to tie spells down. When you undo the knot, the spell goes off. Even someone with no training in sorcery can use it. But it can only keep one spell, so she'll have only one message."

>>
>>36563320
Gem is the one city all the bad things happen. Autochton wants to invade, Fae do invade, etc.

In Gem you will be hiting against intrests of powerful people with powerful agents in it. Gem is spy central where everyone is spying on everyone for everyone, because no one is really sure who they are working for, somtimes not even celestial exalted.

Lookshy could be harder what with being a freaking barracks on a metropolis scale, but you could infiltrate them easier by just joining up, without being suspected as the agent of the next usurper, even if it has the highest concentration of Dragon Blooded in Creation.
Heck Lookshy is easier to spy then Gem, because in Gem you are likely to be noticed by somone and then fed misinformation or have a Op being ron on you.
>>
>>36563368
I'm sure Mikahil wouldn't object to a trip to one of the richest cities in the world, even if it's out of the way
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

Another reason I want to wait and send Mik with her is his Ride/Sail charms, anytime we lose waiting for him is easily gained in the travel time he could cut from the trip back and forth

Mik's biggest contribution is his political and bureaucratic savvy. Of everyone with us he's got the best chance of navigating the noble houses and interests in Gem and gleaning some sort of useful information. Five Tails would follow him and Zareen would be the piece de resistance.

But we can send mik and Five tails to join zareen there after we stabilize a bit in Tianna.
If Rankar was going to kill our parents he'd have done it when he took power. They'll still be alive.
>>
Then lets send her with Mihail and Five Tails after this whole shit with the Abyssals is done, and he made that cash he wants or turns us into Pirate Queen Maka.

We then work to solidify said work and legitimiye it while he swings by to Gem to see what it is about.

If its all done in less than a week or two it should be just the same as Yareen taking a boat and then Caravan to Gem and only just arriving, since well travle charm bullshit.
>>
>>36563426
>In that case she'd be practically unremarkable.
>Just another wolf in a flock of wolves.
I think you didn't get what he was saying.
People don't go to Gem to spy on anything except for info on the Gemstone trade, anyone who tries to look into anything else, will stick out like crazy.
She might be good, but there are dozens of DB in Gem who are supposed to find out why someone is there and who send them. And all these guys are at least as good as she is.
>>
>>36563482
I want Mikahil and Five Tails to go with Zareen.

"We need all the help we can get against the Abyssals. You'll leave right afterwards." You tell her. "Spend any spare time until then preparing. Stuff you might need, equipment, money, planning, support, anything is at your disposal. Depending on the situation, Mikahil and Five Tails might come along with you.

Zareen seems surprised. "I thought you needed Mikahil to build your city."

"I do, but Five Tails is a good spy as well, and Mikahil can be sociable and discreet. Besides, Five said that she's not going anywhere without Mikahil."

"They're really close, huh." She hmmms. "I'll have to ask you a lot of stuff about Gem, then."

"Of course. I'll fill you in-"

You're interrupted by the clamoring of sailors on the top deck."

"...As soon as we have time."

You all rush upstairs, nervously. Dawn is breaking on the eastern horizon, painting a line of copper-gold on the sea and setting the sky ablaze. You arrived at your destination nearly sixteen hours earlier than planned, and yet, still six hours after the end of the truce.

Sitting on the horizon, the dark shape of Tianna is a distinct outline, with the lights of the city and the dock coalesced in a bright spot on the right-hand side.

You see no smoke, no ships, no dark shapes in the sky, no sign of anything being wrong.

You're not entirely sure if you should be relieved or worried by this sight.

Optimally we could spread the rumors that Maka has given up on Gem and just intends to waste away the wealth of the kingdom she has seduced her way into.

The problem is that the queen of gem charade has us pretending to act in an official capacity for the city of Gem. That's the thing that'll set off a red flag for the despot. If we have dealt with the Abyssals, we can pretty much start planning for the retaking of Gem if nothing else interferes.
We only need to still figure out the transportation issue, for which really someone around here should start learning some sapphire circle sorcery.
>>
>>36563924
Most probably would, an extra will be anything that has like one HP, If they don't have a name or attack us as a group you can usually count on them being extras

It would be really awesome if Maka could get Eclipsing the Sun to go with Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement, and other Holy charms.

No reason why Maka couldn't learn it. Its absurdly useful and would allow her to understand Amata a bit better.

>>36564031
>Learning Sorcery requires a person to sacrifice what is most precious to them.
Thats actually not true. It requires sacrificing something important, the most precious thing is something you would sacrifice for Solar Circle. Adamant Circle is more on the level of cutting off a finger, or a precious family heirloom.

Your votes are very spread out and everything is ranked very close. Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement and Horizon-to-Horizon Performance Method are just above Adamant Skin Technique, and ranked equal, by my count, at 5 votes.

Normally I'd not spend the XP in this situation and wait next thread, as there's no consensus. Opinons?
>>
>>36564043
Not even that. By RAW its just losing something.
The assumption is obvious its something important, but 'how' important isn't really spelled out only that it isn't that much for the Emerald Circle, since it gets worse for each.
>>
>>36564068
Don't spend, lets save it then.

For Adamant we would probably have to sacrifice the baby.
But for Emerald, we will probably only have to give up on wearing Tabards or something like that.
A sacrifice that hurts, but isn't all that terrible.
Sapphire would probably be giving up the Throne of Gem.
>>
>>36564071
Well, the 2e Core book says "a terrible sacrifice" and lists losing a finger and abandoning a brother as proper sacrifices for the Terrestrial Circle.

Terrible sacrifice refers to the sacrififces overall, because the higher ranks require worse sacrifices. A finger isn't exactly "a terrible sacrifice".
Its nothing really big for the lowest rank. Bad is only the Sapphire Circle and above, but frankly, Maka doesn't need that.
>>
>>36564125
Its a useful thing to have in every situation, and I see no particular reason not to get the Emerald Circle.
We get to choose the sacrifice even, its not like we randomly lose a thing.
And maka already got at least 2 of 5 trials done.
>>
In any case before getting Sorcery (which is an option) you'll have to raise Twilight to 3.
>>
>>36564150
Its not a immediate issue anyway. But thanks for the reminder.
Regardless of Sorcery, I think we will want Twilight 3 anyway.
>>
>>36564150

>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>36564150
Yeah, fuck that. We need to buy Twilight 3, buy Sorcery, and only THEN can we start learning spells. It's just not fucking worth it.

Am I right in assuming we'd need Twilight 3/4/5 for each consecutive level of Sorcery?
>>
>>36564125
There isn't really any good character development to Maka giving anything up, either. At least in KoC Marena and Secret are better off for what they let go.
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

>>36564164
You buy them like charms. Each spell is the equivalent of one Twilight charm. So, to learn Sorcery spells, we'd need to buy up to Twilight 3, buy the Sorcery initiation charm, and only then would we start being able to buy spells.
>>
>>36564167
I think facing the Trial of Fear and Humility would be definitly good character development for Maka.
>>
>>36564162
We need to get all our abilities up to at least 3 at some point. Dawn and Night at 4 for Martial Arts and Athletic charms.
>>
>>36564166

>Sorcery
>Ever not worth it
Sorcery is fucking amazing. You can not wnat it for Maka, but its always totally worth it. Summon Demon alone is a fantastically versatile problem solver.
>>
>>36564166
It'd be easier to get Val to learn or have Zaan start learning Celestial Circle Sorcery

I don't Amata to learn it though, I worry about it what she'll have to give up
>>
>>36564176
The activation charm comes in a bundle with Emerald Countermagic, one Summoning spell (either Demon of the First Circle or Elemental) and one utility spell (like Infallible Messenger).

Otherwise it's a speedbump and i don't like speedbumps.

Also sorcery spells are always 8 XP even if you're not a Twilight (but the activation charm will still cost 10)
>>
>>36564199
Amata can't learn Celestial Circle. Only Gods higher demons and Celestial Exalted can do that.

Yes. Each charm comes with the Countermagic of its tier for free.

No particular reason to. I can see not wanting to buy it if you want to specialise Maka in Zenith stuff, but I think you are a bit too paranoid here.

Val doesn't have much more reason than Maka, actually. Apparently Twilight XP bonus doesn't make a difference for sorcery, and she isn't big on Occult to begin with.

That's like saying to better understand your friend who has PTSD you should go join the army and fight in wars...

That false logic is monumentally stupid.

And don't even try to argue that Maka's charm purchases don't match up with her character or how she acts in the story.
>>
>>36564414
Don't say they don't match up, but thats not why they get chosen. Maka has made no effort so far to study anything, and yet we raised her twilight.
So all of our purchases are metagaming.
Constantly purchases are chosen and argued for on grounds of stuff Mak could not possibly know, so sorcery wouldn't be any different except there is a direct potential motivation for it.
>>
>>36564414
She doesn't have PTSD, that comparison is just nonsense. Its having trying to understand a thing that has great impact on someone elses life.

That would lead to continued organized predation by pirates of the region. I don't think we want to endorse that, even if it would be profitable. State-sponsored murderer-thieves is a bad precedent to set, even if it's a sound investment.
>>
>>36564592
The alternative: Crashing the system, would lead to piracy without licenses. You aren't getting rid of piracy with both a massive fleet to patrol the sea AND an economic restructuring of the entire Western Direction.

At least making money off it makes the problem manageable.

>>36564671
Yes and no. The lack of licenses would put a huge number of pirates out of business, especially when they can't protect themselves against each other.

In fact, his entire plan to make the big, early money is to use the chaos following the crash to raid every pirate ship they can find and steal EVERYTHING from these now-criminals, effectively ruining the entire pirating industry.

That's something that Mikahil accounted for, if you actually read his plans.
