RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/SeV4Mmqv

You had to admit. When Ustians celebrated, they celebrated HARD. You and your flight still had some time to kill before having to report to the airport to prepare for the airshow. As a result, you were all out rather early, but even so, there were quite a number of people out at this abominable hour. Mostly people lining up for special contests and events. Pity none of the stalls were actually open yet, though.

And of course, you were being giving an impromptu guided tour by Amy's father, Mr. Gates, himself a Belkan War veteran. Apparently, before the war, he was just a simple aircraft mechanic working at the airport. However, when Belka invaded, he immediately enlisted as a mercenary pilot while the rest of his family fled to a refugee camp. In an odd twist of fate, he ended up saving his own family, including a young Amy, when he provided air cover for a refugee convoy being pursued by Belkan units, though neither he nor Amy knew it at the time.

Since then, Amy had never wanted to fly anything else but the trusty A-10.

Well, you had to respect that, at least.

"Well, I know you girls ain't got a lot of time." Mr. Gates says "I was figuring you might want to see the main fairgrounds, where we got this real neat statue dedicated to Galm Team! Or the parade preparations? Or you could just hang around here if you'd like."

Hey guys, Drawfag here. Wver since I've been hopelessly lost in an Ace Combat binge lately I've decided to want to make some emblems for AC squadrons. Here's one work in progress for myself and another buddy's little OC squadron as an example. So I'm totally down to making an emblem for our squadron, so if you guys have any ideas or if you already have an idea for an emblem for the squadron Merc, let me know and I'll draw it later.

Also, does the squadron even have a name?

Finally,

"Let's go check out the faigrounds." You say.

"Sure thing!" Mr. Gates nods. "This way, ladies!"

Amy's portly father leads you a bit further down the street, where you're led to Directus' capital square. You immediately recognize from the documentaries the building holding the famous Freedom Bell-

"WHOOOAAAAAAA!!!!!!!" You hear Lara shout and in a flash, she's gone from your side and suddenly at the foot of a massive statue. Absolutely MASSIVE.

Up ahead, were two life size statues of the F-15Cs Galm Team used to fly, circling around a replica of the Freedom Bell Tower. The level of detail the artisans put into the statue was simple mind boggling. Every single dent, crease, and bolt was depicted in excruciating detail. It looked as if anybody could just hop into the cockpit of one of the planes and take off right there. Hell, you're pretty sure if they melted the statues down, they'd have enough metal to actually MAKE 2 F-15s.

"Damn." You breathe. "No expense spared, huh?"

"It was the least we could do, considering Cipher never returned." Amy says a bit wistfully. "I mean, Ustio owes everything to him."

"Awwwww, now I want one!" Lara whines.

"Lara, you already have your own WORKING F-15." You roll your eyes.

"I mean I want a statue of myseeeeeeelf!" Lara pouts.

"Well, it's simple, really. You just have to singlehandedly save an entire country from invasion!" Lilian chuckles.

"I MIGHT JUST GO AND DO THAT!" Lara bellows.

Off to the side, you see another person among the gathered crowd. At first you weren't going to pay much attention to him, but it just seemed to you that something in his general demeanor stood out. Unlike the other people around him, you had the impression that there was a sort of... heavy atmosphere about him? You couldn't really specify what, but he definitely wasn't in a celebratory mood like everybody else on the fairgrounds.

Plus, something nagged at you, like you've seen this guy somewhere before, but you can't quite place where.

"Oh dear, we better get going." Lilian says as she checks her watch. "We're due to report in soon."

"I still got some things to take care of at home, so I'll call a cab for you girls." Mr. Gates nods.

Meanwhile, you take a glance at Lara, who's now inched even closer to the statue. You get the feeling that she might do something crazy. Or stupid. Or both.

Eh, you're pretty sure Lara will be fine. Besides, Lilian and Amy could handle her. You hope.

However, that mystery man has certainly gotten your attention. You begin casually making your way to him, trying not to stand out in the crowd until you're right up next to him. Now that you're closer, you could a more detailed look on his face. He had an aged look, so he no doubt had to be middle aged at least, and he had this look in his eyes. A look that you've seen in Mr. Fleisher's eyes all too much, and occasionally catch in Mr. Gates' when he thinks nobody is looking.

The look of a man who's seen far too much.

"Is there problem, Miss?" The man turns his eyes to you, the emptiness in them suddenly washing away to a mix of amusement and curiosity. "Are you lost? You don't look like you're from these parts."

"You aren't either, are you?" You fire back. You weren't completely sure, but you had your suspicions this man was Belkan. His physical appearance seemed to suggest it, but his accent was what tipped you off. It was hidden very well, so well that only a native Belkan would have been able to pick it out.

The man blinks in surprise, takes one more look at you, and then laughs a bit.

"I guess it takes a Belkan to know one." He nods. "I take it you're one of the pilots visiting here? Directus has become a mecca of sorts for fighter pilots."

"That's right." You nod. "I guess it takes a pilot to know another, right?"

"Too true." The man grins. "Lieutenant Rainer Altman, 23rd Belkan Tactical Fighter Squadron. Well, ex-Lieutenant, actually."

"Karla Weiss, Artemis Security." You say. "It's nice to meet you, Gelb 2."

"Ah, I see somebody's read up on their history." Altman smiles.

"Well, I had to. Rot 1 is quite a stickler for details." You shrug.

"Ah, you know Deitrich?" Altman's expression brightens almost instantly. "How is he doing these days? I haven't been keeping up with him lately, and well, I heard he took the loss rather hard."

"Oh, he's been doing fine for himself. I think he's largely gotten over it. Mostly." You grin, remembering those nostalgic school days. "But don't expect him to jump back into the cockpit anytime soon."

"I can understand." Altman grins. "Even those who survive against the Demon never find themselves in the air again."

"So... why Directus?" You say, looking around. "Given what I heard, this seems to be the last place you'd want to retire."

"Oh, believe me, early on, the first thing I wanted to do was to get as much distance between me and this city as possible, but..." Altman turns toward the city proper, now just beginning to wake up as the streets filled for the morning rush. "I don't know. Something in me wanted to stay here. Maybe it's because of the peace. Maybe it's because so I can always be close to my flight lead."

Ah, right. You remembered hearing that Altman had been rather close friends Gelb 1.

"Is she your wingmate?" Altman points toward the statue, and you see he's pointing at Lara, who's being dragged away by the arms by Amy and Lilian. You wonder what the heck is going on there, but Amy and Lilian seem to have it handled.

"Yeah, she's kind of an idiot, but her heart's in the right place." You say bluntly.

That causes Altman to start roaring with laughter, momentarily catching the attention the people around you. You get the feeling that this is the first time he's laughed like this in a long time.

"Well said. You're not true wingmates if you can't be blunt about each other every now and then!" He wipes a tear from his eye, and then rests a hand on your shoulder. "Keep her close, Karla, and don't ever let her out of your sight. There's no worse feeling for a fighter pilot than to lose a wingmate. I should know."

"Yes sir." You nod.

"So, Artemis Security, eh?" Altman quickly changes the subject. "Mercenaries just like Him..."

"The Demon Lord?"

"Hah, that's what his enemies call him. Around here, people call him Cipher or Galm 1. I learned that the hard way the first few years after I moved here." Altman chuckles.

"Ah, yeah, Well, anyways, we're going to part of the airshow. In fact, we've even been picked to do the reenactment flight."

"Ah." Altman's expression darkens. "Pity I won't be able to see it?"

I'm more partial to the idea that Cipher is Blaze's father(Either biological or adopted, takes a demon to raise a demon) and he was the astronaut who sabotaged the Arkbird(he's got the balls, and it was said that he never fought in the air again after AWWNB.

That makes me sad.

No, I think that was our dad's plane. It showed up in our hallucination against the Demon Lord.

He was designed to see whether or not a single pilot could change the course of a war, so that sounds pretty likely.

Well Karla seeing Dad's plane probably was real, and when she saw it, she could've interpreted it as him trying to go after Cipher.
>>
>>36596885
Yeah. I've only played 1 or 2 of these games a long time ago. I'm just here for the air combat.
>>

I thought when we talked to the Uncle we said that was the first time we'd ever seen that plane. I would chalk it up to being a Halloween episode but then it became a plot point.

Maybe when they become TRUE ACES, they can get a COFFIN system and have etched cockpit glass depicting a sleeping person.

Wish the bastards'd port more of them to PC. I liked AH though. I don't really understand the hate for it. Although personally I think I prefered Hawx. The port for AH wasn't handled well though.

God, it and VC. They should at least remove the text that tells me not to turn off the device when saving.
>>
>>36596996
Prolly when Karla still very, very young her father took her to see his plane and its planted on her subconscious. Dunno.
That the best logical explanation for 'all in Karla's mind' theory.

1. Its not on Strangereal
2. Stupid command action button

Which coupled with poor porting. Worst purchase ever.
>>
>>36597081
That killcam also irked me. It felt more like a Michael Bay movie or Call of Duty with planes than Ace Combat in some parts.
>>
>>36597081
They basically took out all the hallmark elements of Ace Combat (batshit prototypes, massive flying fortresses, tunnel runs) and made it CoD with planes.

X-2/Joint Assault on the PSP was set IRL but it still had all the usual AC elements, it was a much better game.

"By the way," You suddenly get the thought, "have you come across an orange and black tigerstripe Flanker at any point?"

"Hmmm, that sounds like Tigris Squadron." We crossed paths with them a couple times, but mostly in training flights to flight test our Terminators."

"Ever see each other in combat?"

"Unfortunately, no. We were deployed on different parts of the line. Last I heard they all got shot down over the Round Table." Altman shrugs. "Why do you ask?"

"Ah, well, my father was in that squadron." You say.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." Altman frowns. "The war was hard on everybody involved."

"Did you know anything about them?"

"Sorry, only by reputation. I never actually met or interacted with them personally." Altman sighs. "But I do know another squadron they were often paired up with: Euphrates Squadron. I think a few of them are still alive. Shouldn't be too hard to track them down."

"Thanks." You smile. "Anyways, I should be going. It was nice to meet you."

"You too." Altman smiles. "Be safe out there."

You head back to rejoin the rest of your flight, who have flagged down the taxi Mr. Gates had called.

"About time!" Amy frowns. "Where the heck have you been?"

"Eh, I was just looking around." You shrug as you slide into the backseat of the taxi. "Met an interesting old man, but that's about it."

"Right, right." Amy turns to the driver. "Airport, please."

"No problem." The cabbie nods.

Thankfully, you leave early enough to beat the morning rush hour traffic, and you manage to get to the airport in relatively short order.

"There you are!" Samantha tuts as you arrive. "They moved up the schedule for the airshow! Get your planes prepped and ready to fly!"

"What happened?" You ask.

"There's a possible storm rolling in, so the organizers want to get the airshow started a bit early to beat it."

Of course, your flight would be one of the first up, so you'd have time prepare for the second flight. You all hurry to your individual planes. However, as you settle into the cockpit of your Falcon, you hear Lara speak to on the radio over a private channel.

"Hey, Valk!" Lara whispers, as if afraid somebody was listening in. "Valk!"

"Yes?" You sigh.

"We're just going to be doing a flyby over the fairgrounds, right?" Lara asks.

"Yes, that's the plan." You say. It wasn't anything too complicated.

"But that's boooooooooooring! Can't we do something to spice things up a bit?"

"NOPE." You say loudly. Somebody here had to be the voice of reason. "NOPE NOPE NOPE. That is a bad idea and you are a bad girl for even thinking about that."

"Awwwwwwwww." Lara whines. "That's no fun!"

"You can have fun the reenactment. We're supposed to be doing simulated combat maneuvers anyways." You say.

"Fiiiiiiiiiiine."

Seriously, you sometimes wondered just how the hell Lara managed to score the position of flight lead over someone more level headed like Lilian. Hell, Amy was a better candidate on the face of things.

"All right, Bravo Flight, it's go time." Samantha says over the radio. "Remember, it's just a simple flyby on an east to west approach. Stick to it."

"Affirmative." You all say, though Lara is still a bit downtrodden. She'll get over it.

By the time you're up in the air, you can already see the fairgrounds are absolutely PACKED. The square and the surrounding streets, and even the rooftops, are filled with people eager to see planes in the air. Well, you weren't going to disappoint them.

Your radar pings as you see a number of other planes right behind your flight, no doubt the other mercenary flights invited here.

"My, there so many people down there..." Lilian muses.

"Of course! It's like this every year!" Amy says proudly.

"Man, just one low altitude pass..." Lara whimpers.

"NO." The three of you say at once.

Being just a simple flyby, your first flight goes off without a hitch, and you all quickly land your fighters and jog over to the next set of hangars where the reenactment planes were being held.

"All right, let's review." Samantha says as you all arrive. "Amy and Karla will take off first and will circle around the fairgrounds to give the crowd a good view. Two minutes later, Lara and Lilian will take off to engage. There's no set choreography for this, so just treat it as a training exercise."

"With live weapons?" You point to the wing pylons of your Falcon, which clearly have a few UGMs attached.

"It's for authenticity." Sam shrugs. "Just, for the love of Razgriz, DO NOT take off the safeties, or we're all mincemeat. Is that clear?"

"Crystal." You nod.

"All right, Amy, Karla, you two are up!"

With that, you head for Pixy's Eagle, while Amy heads for the faux Cipher Eagle. As you put on your helmet and settle into the cockpit, the very same one Pixy sat in, you were-

You were pretty ambivalent about it. It was just a plane, after all. Didn't really matter who used to fly it. You look over to the Eagle next to you and see Amy in her cockpit. She turns to face you as well and gives you a thumbs up to signify he was ready. You return the gesture.

"All right Bravo Flight, you're up." Samantha says. "Don't fuck it up."

"We'll keep that in mind." You assure her.

Takeoff is routine and uneventful as always. Again, you find yourself flying above the packed fairgrounds, but this time feels different. It feels like the crowd is far more energized than normal. In fact, you're not sure if that odd whining sound you're hearing is air passing over the hull of your plane, or the sound of the people below cheering. Up ahead of you, Amy in Cipher's fake Eagle shows off a bit by waggling her wings.

"You're enjoying this, aren't you." You say.

"Of course I am!" Amy giggles as she does a quick barrel roll. "It's not ever day you can play Cipher!"

True enough.

You see two pings on your radar, with the transponders showing them as Gelb 1 and 2. You frown and check your timer. Lara and Lilian were a bit early, and even odder, didn't even announcing their arrival. However, you shrug it off. Maybe they were just playing their part as the opfor.

And then an alarm begins blaring. You check your instruments and see that Lara and Lilian were painting you with active radar. Planes wouldn't normally do that unless they were going for missile lock.

"Valkryie, are you getting that?" Amy asks.

"Yeah..." You frown. "You too, Magnet?"

"I thought it was a malfunction at first."

"Lara, Lilian." You say over the squadron channel. "I know you're the opfor, but target locking us is NOT funny."

"Valk, we're not even in the air yet." Lara says.

And at that moment a pit forms in your stomach when you realize something is very, VERY wrong. You hand grips your stick tighter as your thumb reflexively moves to switch off your weapon safety...

"I'll be sure to mention that later." Samantha says. "Bravo One and Two are already switching back to their original craft. They should be up in the air in a couple more minutes, so hold out until then!"

"Got it. You hear that, Magnet?" You say.

"Y-yeah!" Amy affirms. You look behind you to see Amy's Eagle a bit shaky, and she takes a second or two to respond to your maneuvers. You then remember that she almost exclusively flies the A-10, so she wouldn't be familiar with a plane that was actually fast and maneuverable. At least to you, the Eagle was just a bigger, heavier, slightly less nimble version of the Falcon.

"All right Amy, let's take this out of the city."

"Roger!"

You consider your options. First, you could try to gain altitude. It was the simplest option, and gave you plenty of room to maneuver, but it wasn't optimal if you were going to be forced on the defensive. Farther north, you could see a bunch of mountains and canyons, which you could conceivably use as cover, though it of course would require tricky flying. However, if you remember correctly, Amy would at least be familiar with the terrain. Finally, you could see a mass of dark clouds on the horizon, no doubt that storm system Samantha had mentioned. If you go in there, well, good luck being found in THAT.

Aren't the mountains the same ones from Mission 1: Glacial Skies?

Can we say the line?

It all started on that snowy day...

We should be saying all the lines, when we get the option to engage these guys I think it should be "Lets take care of them..." or something. Been awhile.

"Magnet, we're heading for the mountains. We'll try to lose them in the valleys and canyons." You say. "You know the terrain, can you take the lead?"

"I t-think I can-"

"Don't think, Magnet! Can you or can you not?" You bark.

"I can do it!" Amy assures you.

"All right, then take the lead." You say, throttling back a bit to allow Amy to take position ahead of you.

"Okay, if I remember correctly..." Amy trails off. "There!"

Amy's Eagle then suddenly dives for the deck and you follow suit. You can see where Amy intends to head for; a narrow canyon mouth. Amy dips low enough to the canyon river below to actually kick up mist before disappearing into the narrow crack in the mountains.

"Looks like it's starting to come down..." You mutter to nobody in particular as you put your own Eagle into a dive, following Amy's maneuver. You take on last glance behind you to see the distant shapes of the Terminators trailing behind you, apparently unwilling to follow you into such dangerous terrain.

At least for now.

>And unfortunately, that's all for tonight. That sudden server maintenance really threw things off, so we'll have end things here. As always, next thread is next week. Don't forget Cyberpunk Idols on Saturday and PJ Witches on Friday!

Seeya tomorrow, Merc.

I hope P-san and the girls' flight back home was quiet considering that not only can Cole EMP the whole plane, but now she can call in lightning strikes and send it plummeting to Terra Firma.

Drawfag again, thanks for the run Merc. If you come up for something for the emblem, just send me a tweet!

Currently, the squadron doesn't have an official name or identity, and is just generically designated as "Bravo Flight/Squadron". However, most Artemis pilots have individual emblems to denote their ace status.

Lara's emblem is a single F-15 trailing a large red bloodstripe.

Karla's emblem is a side profile of a Valkyrie, kind of like the Valkyrie Profile logo, but more flight oriented.

Lilian's emblem is a single angel wing with a halo floating above it.

Amy's emblem is a U-shaped magnet surrounded with lightning bolts.

However, I am open to squadron name and emblem suggestions for Bravo Flight!

Well, if I remember previous threads correctly, "Wild Card" was kinda up there as a nickname for Karla alongside "Valkyrie". So maybe we can use "Wild Card".

>>36599426
Wild Card does sound nice.

HM, that gives me an idea...

Our AWACS is called Joker, so it does fit themati-

Maybe it can be an Ace Playing Card, but it's divided in 4 quarters. Each Quarter has each card suit so it looks like someone cut up each Ace Card in Quarters and pasted them together as a single card.

I like that a lot.

4 pilots, 4 suits of cards.

>>36599504
Maybe with the Artemis logo in the middle.
>>
>>36599491
As The Drawfag, I can dig this!

>>36599504
Perhaps I can do a small hand of cards and somehow put in each of the girl's main emblems in the center of the card? Definitely a thought.

If I did the back of a card it could have the Artemis Logo on it as well, what do you guys think?
>>
>>36599499
>>36599522
Well there is one thing for certain, this new card suit will certainly turn heads if it's actually used in a game. Just like a Wild Card.
>>
>>36599504
I like this idea
>>
>>36599522
Please do (about the pilot's personal emblem). And if you got idea for Bravo's emblem.

Got some crossover idea involving Bravo flight but that can wait later.
