Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Asher Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

An hour's worth of niggertry! Maybe more if you count yesterday!

The dull thrum of gunshots spread out through the city, distant echoes that make citizenry anxious and wary as they evacuate their home and work, leaving it to the burgeoning warzone and the responsibility of Overwatch as a military division. Unlike a true natural disaster there aren't many obstructions to speak of save for the occasional troll's declaration of a bridge, or a transformed gang of thugs exploring their new physiology.
It's speedy, organized, a little too much even. Could it be someone's magic?

You smile for where your thoughts have gone. Months ago it would've just been a spectacle, a coincidence of someone's superior organization. Now it's suspect spellwork, some master behind the scenes.

Marcus said there very well may be someone capable of an “order” magic just as much as someone could commit to “chaos” magic. Such is variety in this world after all.

The day past you increased the level of your trust in Legna, bestowing unto her more power. She mentioned offhand that by itself it won't empower her through legend, however her shield is stronger, and her sword? You took a little trip to Dorothy's and found an adequate one. The witch charged you another favor as usual. You asked her what she thinks of faerieland Chicago and she just grinned warmly,“Means more business for little old me.”

Once Legna received a steel broadsword worthy of her, she offered to train you in its use, though you declined for the moment, even with your wood arm, it won't help you much you feel. Not until you get a chance to really learn how to use it anyway.
Respecting your decision, she left it at that.

Getting around to some alone time with Emilia, you practice casting with her. She sends out small pellets of weighted blood, you apply your ability to alchemically “break” things and the result? A brick wall's seen better days. Smashed and utterly destroyed. She opts for you to do the same to blood that she's coated her hands in. After explaining how it works to her, it's made clear that it should not be made to destroy flesh should she be wearing it.

The two of you practice further through the elements. She takes what you give her splendidly and hums her strange chant to bring her back to a neutral state. Fire's not exactly great for her however... Casting your earth magic or alchemy seems best overall.

Finishing the day, you practice your parkour with the agility suit, leaping up walls and creating fire platforms. It's then that you realize just how fragile the solid fire feels. Unlike earth that's solid or water that's capable of surface tension, fire is like silk, bending like a velvet sheet. It doesn't exactly break, but it takes a lot of thought to make it resemble an actual solid surface.

You realize that this is as strong as the defense for “Knight” is, just a silk wrap of magical flame. Good thing that it's at least intimidating, and it's no wonder that Lance-mech went right through it.

The previous night you had been plagued by a dream of a terrible demon of snow and ice with long horns running backwards over a long shaggy mane. With a sharp smile of wicked fangs he hunted you, whispering how he knew where you were, that you were sleeping, how he was waiting, and how he'd be the one to kill you.

Donneth.

Brushing back the reflections of yesterday, now begins the period of time that the Templars are expected to arrive.

Silk is actually bulletproof to some extent. That's why dudes would take their shirts off when they challenged someone to a duel, to prove that they weren't cheating by wearing a silk shirt that could let them take a shot to the chest and only incur bruises/maybe a broken rib.

Bullets back in the day were almost entirely getting punched by a fast moving metal fist, they don't have much pentrasive force in the way dran means

Our fire won't burn wood if we don't want it to so I don't see why we wouldn't integrate it into Knight. And MF works on it since its a -mancy.

The city streets, empty of people, crawl with plants, flowers, and even mushrooms poking up through the concrete as well as the faeries, both fae and unseelie that are planting or picking them based on whether it's light or dark. Some people too stubborn to leave wander around accompanied by faeries leading them to their own faction, human recruits to a faerie's war.

A war that would see intervention.

Legna returns to you, and you relay the news she brings to the others hiding out in the diner. “Overwatch is withdrawing, a curtain of light is moving through the city toward the Field Museum.”

“They're heading to the Seelie portal?” Marcus rubs the stubble on his chin in thought, “They must be going for it along with the ley line.” Putting his mask on, he flicks the radio on, “Henry, have you made visual contact?”

Marcus nods, after a while, “Confirmed, we're mobilizing immediately.” Looking to you and the others, “We're going to engage to test their abilities. Withdraw at once if you feel your life is in danger. Asher, Tony, you'll need to act as snipers with your vantage points. Generate a smokescreen when I give the order to withdraw and above all else do not cast more than one spell from the same location. One more time, we are not looking to kill them from the get go.

“Our targets are a woman in a hooded white robe with a tall hat wielding a scythe, a man built like a bodybuilder that's stark naked, and what appears to be a clergyman. I suspect that they are Vein, Bone, and Nerve in that order, are we understood?”
Everyone agrees, Hughes, Tony, and Emilia salute, you do so a bit after the fact.

Good, we're moving out.

Potion brewing was discussed a lot mostly because there are multiple people around who know about it already and could assist us. It's also not an herbal thing. Literally the only thing we know about potions is that the more toxic you make it, the stronger it is.

Also, I found this picture. Reminded me of Donneth.
>>
>>36627400
No she wouldn't. Dran said that she was the first character that would have died if we had wanted her gone.

Also, you're not going to overpower a soul-infused weapon with an apprentice/adept elementary spell. Maybe deflect it a bit, but the enhanced senses and agility are better for that anyway.

Also summons like Legna will do a better job of defending us from people like her than ferro would anyway.

Never said that as a matter of fact Chinese alchemy is very limited in what you can do with it which is one of the reasons it died long before western alchemy.

You know, Dran did say that not every fae in this setting has the iron weakness and the Xix if faefied would likely end up not having the iron weakness.

Makes me think that if we did get Ferro before the faefication completed, it might make us not have the weakness. Or at least lessen it a lot.
>>
>>36627685
We already have way too many skills.
We don't need another one we will never use
>>
>>36627653
For a part of it. It'll likely switch up.
>>
>>36627708
I agree, for now at least.

Alchemy is a wonderful spell because it buffs most other spells to the point that they function as if they're a higher grade than they actually are. And that's in addition to the actual transmutation atom rearrangement thing that it can do by itself. It's a neat thing.

Once we actually get Summoning and Alchemy up to higher grades, it would be very worth it to start getting tons of new spells should we find ourself with enough LIMIT to do so.
>>

>>
>>36627834

>>
>>36627834
In this case, I don't know why he even considered it a tie. One of the Legna votes was Asher as the person's main choice and Legna as a secondary vote.

I'd call that as 1.5 v 2 if I was QMing.
>>
>>36627828
And you think that not having Ferro will lock us out of interacting with metals using Alchemy because...?
>>
>>36627893

>>
>>36627782
Excellent. We can see how much of a fag Asher looks from Marcus's POV now.
>>
>>36628123
You said
>>We don't need another one we will never use
>>Not realizing how vital Metallurgy is to alchemy
in response to
>We don't need [Ferro]
Which implies that not having Ferro would lock us out of using metal in Alchemy.
>>
>>36628178
>Which implies that not having Ferro would lock us out of using metal in Alchemy.
Not having Ferro locks out all the mystical uses of metal and anything other than the mystical properties would require a decent understanding of science if we don't already have ferro of course.
>>
>>36628370
Except Alchemy itself is already linked to the mystical properties of metals.

What this comes down to is which interpretation Dran is taking, because it could go either way here. So we're just going to have to wait until he decides to chime in.
>>
>>36628425
>>36628370
Having the elementary spell has never been a requirement for related alchemy stuff, though it does make it easier to do. The only things that ferro would let us do with metal that we couldn't eventually do with Alchemy alone is move it around all telekinetic like and generate (temporary) chunks of it from nothing with Adept+.
Even life-related Alchemy didn't technically require a life elementary to do. It does get a huge reduction from it, bigger than any other type of spell, but we could have technically gotten Master (or was it divine? I can't remember) alchemy and that'd have done more or less the same thing as Adept alchemy + Apprentice life elementary.

>>36627301

Securing the laces of his split-toe boots and tightening his gloves along with setting the mask born of his conviction the leader of Malice sets out to destroy the former associates of the only person in the world that's given purpose to his new life. Touching his flask of gasoline he begins to wonder if it'll be enough should he use it to fight, or perhaps to escape?
When the order comes to retreat will that be enough? Or will he have to show Karen's greatest enemies his trump card? Thoughts for a late time. They need to move.
Engage before they reach the museum, regroup with the fae, share what is known about their abilities and plan from there. That is the goal, that is the method. He'll resort to the darkness should the time come.

“Let's go.” He says, leaving the diner. Karen's Pillar of Benevolence already helping with more humanitarian efforts, the place will be empty by the Malice's leave, a temporary haven.

Those that can run do, those that can't switch over to the Re-Reflex form of Cora's design. He snorts, after Echo's wariness he absconded as well. The faggot, Eloc can't be trusted. He doesn't believe in Karen in the same way- no, they're just tools and Cora's a pawn. Yet until there's proof, until there's a reason to kill him, Marcus would respect her word.
There's a reason for everything after all.

The nerves and Henry zip off onto high grounds slipping in through building with what power they have. One of the summoner's pets stays by the side of Marcus, along with Hughes, and Gerta. Bones spearfront, vein in the new rear; just Emilia, the tree bastard's pet.
>>
>>36628897

Once upon a time Marcus may have had a devotion to the land, to the wood. But those days are long and gone, this world is just a place to b- no. There is hope. Hope in her, hope that it can be a place once more to be proud of. Humans killing each other for no damn reason, Karen will put an end to that all. Believe in her.

Would've been nice to have the foxgirl here. Would've skipped this whole test confrontation altogether with her power. Injury was damn deep and the Hydra said that she'd be out for at least another few days. Not what they can spare.

The bogies are ahead, The Naked Man's skin is white, shining like alabaster, the roman's head is bowed and her strange hat stands tall like a monument to her conviction, and the clergyman? He's the first to turn around-

Marcus's eyes switch instinctively to search out astral phenomenon, an old rage filling his heart whenever he uses his power. Magic is food. His tendons strain against his muscles as he spies the distortion of the earth, and like a shark seeking prey it's drained partway and the world grows slower as his body transforms and ignites, clothes going along with it. Naked bastard must have a geass or something, otherwise he wouldn't be naked.

“Engage!” Crimson bullets fly forward as a crackle of remote magic augments them, Hughes charges the Naked Man, and Gertrude speeds to the woman, going for that blood she so craves.

From your vantage point, you spy the forward group moving in. Marcus gives the order and Emilia unleashes her volley. At a moment's notice you whisper “Break” and augment her shots. A subtle spell as you maintain your position, setting up subtle wards.

From your vantage point, you spy the forward group moving in. Marcus gives the order and Emilia unleashes her volley. At a moment's notice you whisper “Break” and augment her shots. A subtle spell as you maintain your position, setting up subtle wards.

The bloody bullets contact the naked man, driving him back as he digs his heels in, tearing through concrete at the force. Likewise, the woman with the scythe performs a half-spin to slip between the lethal volley and the clergyman simply... doesn't get hit. As Hughes breaks their line, rushing the Naked Man, his own skin turning black, the nudist's own turns an immaculate alabaster as his magic shines with a color Roman Marble.

Hughes makes contact and even with the force of his magic, he's stopped dead by the man, that appears to be like a statue, the splatter of blood marring the immaculate abs, doing nothing more than laying a smudge upon perfection.

Hughes makes to swing using the might of his magic, momentum. With it, he's run right through bricks and even uprooted trees in practice. His pinnacle, as foretold by Saphira, to be the Unstoppable force. Of Justice Hughes would whisper to himself.
His fist is stopped dead by a single glorious hand that does no more than caress it until twisting into a bone-crushing grip at the wrist, bending him over and punching him up with a knee. The Statue then leaps into the air, a majestic feat for living stone, an open palmed hand ready for an olympian-level spike.
>>
>>36629420
>>36629347
You're also forgetting about Lucifer. They'll probably get their new champion to shittalk Asher everywhere because spite.
>>
>>36629454

As Hughes clashes, Gertrude closes on the evasive scythe-wielder during her half-spin. She notices that the woman's not even looking at her, no, beneath that hood, her eyes are closed in a pious concentration as her weapon is held in a precarious fashion. Suddenly finding her fear, Gertrude shifts her weight to juke past, to avoid a tumbling clash like Hughes, and instead angle for her back or side.

This is a mistake as the woman's scythe comes around, a crude thing seemingly made of nothing more than iron and wood of no apparent note, a common farmer's tool. It finds blood at the end of a flourish, slipping through the spider's flesh at her ribcage like grains of sand through an hourglass. The hooking motion sparing her heart, but taking a lung as the blunt end comes back around to smash her upper scale of gravity, causing the spider to experience a moment of horizontal posture as she's driven backwards into the ground.

The clergyman checks their watch, oblivious to his allies taking care of the ambush.

It's a sphere that extends a few meters all around.

That was Hughes perspective. He whispered that to himself when told by Saph.

Yes, He'll be running to avoid how obvious blink is,

We could do a nitrofiend above him to try to blow out his eardrums. The shockwave would be mundane, should be more than enough to at least stagger him a bit. If it doesn't, we'll know that he has some kind of countermeasures against mundane attacks.

"You could give it a shot" is by no means a "it will totally work" when it comes from Dran.
>>
>>36629903
This and if it doesn't work try to use ignorance on the ward.
Invocation about how something that isn't physicaly there can't stop the physical effect.
Use Fae logic

They are still warded by the nerve

>>
>>36630135
Weren't we just doing that?
>>
>>36630160
We enhanced with Break
>>
Ok, we're trying to scout their powers and make sure that our allies can get away. So the top ideas so far, at least in my opinion are
>Nitrofiend the Nerve outside the ward to hit him with the shockwave
>Ignorance on the Nerve's ward

Doing something about the Vein would also be acceptable, but nitrofiend is a bad idea because it will also hit Gertrude if I'm interpreting the current situation correctly.

Kinda want to try to blind the statueman, but I have a feeling he's more than capable of fighting blind.

>>36630006
I guess we should be expecting Donneth soon, then.

Awesome.
>>
>>36630192
What if we drew in a bunch of water to the Vein and flash-steamed her?

I can't imagine that she'd be able to spin away from that and we could keep it from cooking Gertrude too.
>>
>>36630192
I doubt Donneth would attack during the Day while fucking TEMPLAR are near.
>>
>>36630225
If we can do that fast, then I'd be cool with it. I have no idea how much water is around or how fast we can move it.

>>36629871
What's the water situation like?
>>
>>36630225
Right steam isn't penalize.
>>
We now have a couple of moves we could pull
>water + steam on the Vein
>Nitrofiend to disrupt the Nerve's ward
>Ignorance on the ward
All would be possible with Incantation
>>
>Gertrude's only strong point is that she has above average magic consumption
>She rushes the melee-focused Vein instead of the Nerve
Good to know our allies can be even dumber than we are...
>>
>>36630364

>>
This has MASSIVE backfire potential, but we could attempt to poison the Nerve by transmuting a bunch of air into hydrogen cyanide and blowing it onto him.
>>
>>36630192
We could also try shooting some Thorns at the nerve to break his concentration since wards don't effect real objects. Hound/Gauntlet-ing the Vein could also work to keep her from spinning around.
>>
>>36630274
There's ambient water based on proximity to the lake and some underground. Not much to speak of for quickly accessed water unless you wanted to spend a moment gathering it or force it up through the ground, altering the battlefield.

It's possible.
>>
>>36630461
Or we could just transmute a chunk of air a few hundred feet above him into a cinderblock.

>>36630467
We didn't learn Thorn during break. The ward would also kill the MF on them anyway, making them less effective.

We can't just transmute that out of the air. HCN we can.

Supposedly, that level of mana drain is pretty unique to Beliala. But who knows, it doesn't seem to be too consistent.

Legna.
>>
>>36631945
Belila didn't have an abnormally high mana drain, she had abnormally high Regen. Her mana drain was standard for a Bone of her level. Templar Bone is almost certainly going to be higher than her unless he has an abnormally shitty mana drain.
>>
>>36631987

It wouldn't work.

Blink only works for Asher because of 2 factors
>Asher knows himself well enough to create a perfect copy of his body and mind
>Asher has a ranged attack that's fast and powerful enough to kill him instantly.

We don't know Hughes well, but he doesn't have a ranged attack so the doppelganger would tardrush him and try to strangle the poor fucker.

I'm more thinking that he's about to get rekt by the Nudist, so he would die before the doppelganger has a chance to react.

Marcus realizes his mistake in letting Hughes go on ahead. Karen would think ill of using such an honest guy as a scapegoat. It's something that must be done though. The Statue's revealed himself to be a one trick pony, though a powerful one. Material shifting- marble, strength and durability, but he's slow, heat him enough and he'll bake one way or another. The Scythe's only shown mundane weapon prowess, veins are never that simple, and that blade will be dangerous as it is if she focuses him. The Nerve, way too relaxed, the other two pre-occupied. Time to put on some pressure.

Holding his breath, he advanced forward, speed now severalfold, the world slowing around him. There's a spark in the air near Hughes and the air begins to change. As Marcus passes, there's an explosion above and an ensuing screen of steam festering against his flames as he rushes the nerve. Astral vision shows that there's a ward of some sort. He must've generated the curtain of light, but now it's lifted and this is here instead.

As Marcus nears, he takes another step only to feel his vision pulled back, as though he's meters of where he should be, instantly he realizes that there's a magical effect and subconciously targets it, to destroy it, yet the effect is already there.

He's more than twenty meters of where he should be, where he should have been. The clergyman smiles at him as Hughes rolls backwards, more or less shocked but alright as the statue lands. The steam increases in size and density. Obscuring vision of the Templars...
>>
>>36632514

You bend and pull, weaving water out of air, denying the symmetry of the world's order. Air becomes water, and the power of fire heats it, turning it dark and red. Your Fiend spared Hughes the rod, though it didn't leave him unscathed. The Statue seems a bit perturbed as to where the steam's coming from, the Clergyman stands with your magic, even the already transformed air bending around his personal space as though avoiding him because of some divine grace.

The Scythe-wielder, seeming to be the one to deal with such a thing begins to spin. More than a half spin, no- several spirals that begin to interfere with your spellwork. Within the astral you see her soul expand past her body, a great meditative pious body as it continues to expand beyond your belief.

Your hands slacken with disbelief as you stare on at as the soul range expands to encompass the street and buildings for hundreds of meters. In the mundane, your steamscreen's been transformed into a divine sandstorm with the Scythe-wielder at the epicenter, barely visible. Dust and sand is pulled out from buildings, concrete, tar, and transferred into the torrential wind...

Possibly, but I don't know how he is doing this^ then. I guess Dran could pull some sort of "Oh he created a bubble of time around himself" sort of bullshit.

We can probably kill him with Aeromancy if we keep the other two from interfering. If we pull all the air away from him, I'm guessing he'll spend more burn than we do trying to counter our effect.

>>36632545

I spin, a quarter with my feet, the tool of the crop a half-turn overhead as I succumb to its momentum, allowing the grace the Allah, the celestial whole to guide my dance. My eyes are closed, seeing the evil through my own divine eye. Half to full, full to double. My soul is humbled by god, with my head bowed in humility, I am nothing but the dust on the wind, the sand in which no life can grow.

Double spin to triple, my right hand receives the light of god, and my left spreads it unto the world. I am only a messenger to deliver this message.

Allah is here. Through me, I, a vessel extinguish the evil that sprouts.

The Dervish spreads her soul from her body, through he extreme conviction of faith, it swallows the street, ripping up particulate sand and dust from whatever facsimile of stone lay within its birth, the force of her spin causing the it all to swirl into a single spiraling a force, a dust storm to a dust cyclone.

Like the orbit of the cosmic divine, so to I emulate this power. As the earth travels around the sun, the dust encircles I.

As the wind rages on, the woman's soul suddenly returns to her body, just as pure as it had been before.

It all returns, I am one with my body, and the universe continues to spin, through this storm, I see the demons in the sand. A cannibal, a spider, a tree haunted by a demon, a false angel, a child of earth, a shadow, a bloodthirsty hunter, and a misguided hero.
My left hand takes the spider's head, thus I fly after my feet to the next, the cannibal, an eater of man with the appearance of efreet. It seeks to use sorcery to evade my blade and move to where I am blind. Slowing my spin, I place a finger to my lips. Quiet, no words, no magic. A vow between the two of us.
Of silence.
>>
>>36632965

The only benefit I can think of for the path we took is that we get experience with our cantrips along the way in a better way instead of just getting tons of unpracticed cantrips all at once towards the end.

Still woulda been better to rush summoning and then branch out tho.

I feel like that's because we come up with awesome stuff we want to do, try to spec for it, and then realize that we can't actually do that stuff. Repeat ad infinitum.

It becomes scared, and flees, this one too I strike with my faith.

The dust rends flesh, as Marcus unleashes a soundless scream midst the howling storm, the vein somehow sealing his magic away and thus forcing him to the mundane. He only saw her put a finger to her lips. That's all she did.

As the blade seeks to claim Marcus's life, it's stopped by Legna's own sword driving a wedge between them and forcing the Dervish to pivot away, breaking her hold.

Marcus feels his power return and speeds away, truly afraid as he issues the order to retreat, realizing just how big these fish are.

“Everyone fall back. Halt them if you can... We're going on ahead to the museum! I repeat, fall back!” He screams into his comm over the clash of Legna's blade as she dances with the Dervish, the other two Templars doing nothing to assist their ally, out of respect, indifference, or confidence. No one could exactly be sure.

I hope fable is well and dead. He had to fuck up what started as a great series.

Fable II should have been rebuilding the Hero's guild or something. And the final boss barely being anything more than a joke was just bad. Reaver can go fuck himself and all of his sluts.

After seeing the size of that soul, you ran. It was too big, and too close. When it withdraw you retraced your distance and regained visual confirmation of the Templars. The wind carried on and Legna spoke to you of death coming for your allies.
She spoke to you of Gertrude's death and you suddenly almost feel bad for not giving her what she wanted. She saved Marcus and then the order came over a panicked comm. With the wind withdrawing and Legna fighting the vein's spinning flurry with her own hail of blows you set yourself on the task of creating multiple gauntlets, Hughes, Marcus, Emilia, and Gertrude went in. Hughes and Emilia are going to need help out, Two hands.

You reach out, manifesting them, “Gauntlet!” You shout to increase the power of the spell and focus hard on making the flames cold. Securing the two of them through the storm, you notice Legna suddenly ceases moving to be cut down by the Dervish, silencing her.

You see a flick of magic from the Clergyman, a twisted little smile on his face as though to say that this is all too easy.

The Scythe-wielder looks right in your direction, you see her place a finger to her lips and-

No sound, no thoughts. Only sights and fleeting feelings. Asher's gauntlets cease and he feels like no more than an animal standing despondent upon a building, unaware of even the sound of his own thoughts. He tries to move his mouth, to use his words, but only an empty mute is presence. He'd panic if he knew what that feeling was. Isolation. A silence of the mind.

The Dervish withdraws to the other templars, running with natural speed as opposed to her surreal dance of flying around with the blade guiding her motions.

The Clergyman stares at you and the building that you stand upon reverts to cement, shredded wood, mangled iron and fragments of coal.

Asher falls, a silent scream as though he's dreaming and can't wake up as the ground approaches.
>>
>>36634432
> •Wisp(Summoning): Create a thoughtform program for Fiend to turn it into a missile. Currently, Asher can generate 2 Wisps while simultaneously focusing on other spells or 4 Wisps if he focuses on them alone. Wisps held in reserve risk acquiring quirks in their programming.

You remember incorrectly.

This is an effect of being cut-off from the Flow, for anyone who is wondering. A similar thing happened in Omar-quest. Typically not possible for a vein to pull on a nerve because of the insta soul destruction that nerves can do, but it appears that dervish woman ignores that restriction.
>>
And Dran wonders why his own players have so little trust in him. It's because he's so bad at communication he might as well be trying to fuck us over.

Honestly it doesn't really matter. Everytime we tried to go down a path because it was awesome it ended up getting nerfed and we were left fucked. Always trying to get something together so we were beyond being barely competent, on a good day.

Pretty much all we can do is try and avoid being fucking creamed until Dran decides hes bored of Overhuman and kills us off.

Asher has gotten stronger. But so have the enemies that he fights. You guys expect that he will be able to smoke through everyone one day, but that will never happen. If it did, there would be no conflict in the quest. I think the bigger goal is to see Asher do absolutely ridiculous shit (like turn Chicago into a fae-city, summon a goddess, etc.)

Learn to embrace the curb-stomping as Dran's way of balancing shit out.

>>36634932
What are you talking about? Asher is like Gilligan from Gilligan's Island. Whatever he's involved in something a disaster is waiting to happen. Asher falls, falls... Until he- stops? Something, several things pull up at his body. He breathes, unaware of whether he's breathing or not and looks down as the crumbled wood, earth, and metal falls to the ground many meters below.

Faeries, Seelie have halted his fall. “We've got you! We've got you!” Though his heart is not calm, the hesitation of his own mind being soundless, the fall. It's all very real. And now he simply understands that he isn't falling anymore.

The Statue rolls his shoulders, cracks his neck and decides that it's about time that he finished off the rest of these people. The Dervish his restricting a dangerous mage that's fallen to his death, the bishop is protecting her and now it's time to close in on the ley line.

With the dust still whirling, he walks through, undeterred by the marble, taking a step and then another as he pursues the fleeing Elemental Fire-type bone, the space dilation granted by the Bishop putting him right in range for a strike.

The stature swings and Marcus dips down, turning his eyes backward as he takes his hand from his wound, already having cauterized it. The man's slow, but he was moved behind him. An effect from the clergyman? Harder to run, harder to approach. A battlefield manipulator, likely very few skills that do direct damage.

So long as no one sees, it's fine. Marcus holds his breath, fulfilling the condition for speed. Erupts a flare from his back to blind the man midst the sandstorm fulfilling the other condition for...

Fire blinds him, the fire-type bone vanishes. Something burns in the side of the Statue's neck, he moves a hand to feel it as it suddenly traces itself across the back of his neck, burning through his spinal cord with a numbing tingle. Falling to his knees, he waits for the bishop...

Try to look at it less like an rpg where you are trying to beat the game. Look at it more like a story where we work with Dran to do cool stuff. Asher might be a pushover in a fight sometimes, but he can pull off some crazy magic in his spare time. If you have something you really want to see (which doesn't require spending limit), try to push for that and you will have a lot more fun.

>>36635546
Yeah, I took out dice because I found myself preferring to work more on the narrative.
And as far as builds go, I'm kind of okay with Asher's current set. If he was too powerful he could just do whatever he wanted. But he's also good enough to just brush off all the scrubs and do kind of alright in a 1v1 with a medium-tier enemy.

I never wanted him to be BS like Ichigo or Naruto. If anything he's closer to Luffy.

He's a pretty big fish, in his own right, but there are MUCH bigger fish out there.
>>
>>36635546
I really want him to finish up his faehood. It's a solid power boost to go from normal squishy to supernatural creature, anyway. And we really need to focus on some more long term shit. Enchanted items, and we didn't go into this fight with any spells set up, like wisps, for some reason.
>>
>>36635599
Asher's dangerous as fuck. He may not be all that impressive when it comes to a straight up fight, but this bastard somehow manages to get people to keep going along with his crazy schemes to unleash astrals upon the world.

Dangerous. As. Fuck.
>>
>>36635453

Marcus reforms, trembling. That power took out a bit more than he thought, may need more conditions, a focus... Emilia reports that she's gotten Hughes out, Gertrude's down, and Legna's vanished.

“Good, Statue's down, continue your retreat.” He turns to look back at the waning storm and the molten hunk of flesh he tore of of the Statue's been restored as the man stands back up, feeling the place that had only so recently been a mortal wound.

Despite how grim, how useless that all seemed, Marcus grins behind his mask. They've all shown at least the base of what they can do. Retreat, regroup, and plan. Hughes is dead weight anyway. Tony, and Asher are still okay, Emilia stayed back as she was told, and they saved him the work of offing Gertrude himself. Today is a damn good day.
>>
Most people seem to forget that things like roleplaying games exist to help empower the players not grind them to dust. It feels like there is no point to any of the choices we make.

Not that they know this, but Asher would technically insta-kill them ("Break!") if he was allowed to touch them for a second or two.

>>36635632
I honestly would rather have him as a Lelouch and make absolutely ludicrous plans come to fruition. But I know my fellow players want Asher STRONK, so I will take the occasional fae portal openings. I'm still holding out hope for our crazy human experimentation plans.
>>
>>36635716
>Asher would technically insta-kill them ("Break!") if he was allowed to touch them for a second or two.
No he wouldn't. Bishop, MAYBE, but the other two are no way in hell he could do that.

Touch casting directly fights the target's soul. That means that
>Statue would get soul+bone absorption against our casting.
>Dervish would get her fucktardedly massive soul vs our casting.
Bishop would probably be fucked if we could actually touch him, but to do that we'd need to get through his defenses, and if we can do that then we could just Fiend him.
>>
>>36635700

Every time Asher's done anything halfway impressive, it's because he bumbled into some randomass group of people and decided to go do some bullshit and convinced them to help.

Do you need Asher to be able to be a lone-wolf? Asher was undeniably instrumental in winning that fight. A fight which was against a far superior enemy, mind you. So long as we set ourselves up to have unfair advantages (faerie support, dual casting, etc), we can win fights.

>>36636008
I sense some sarcasm here, but I'm not really sure why. What sort of competence do you expect from a quest character, if not power? The players determine what actions he takes, so do you want the players to be better strategists? Or do you just want him to be effortlessly better than his enemies?

Tony unleashes a spell of darkness, unleashing shadows to obfuscate everyone at Marcus's word. The Dervish resumes her spin to dispel the racing shadows, yet it's too late. All of their foes vanish.

Marcus comes in over the radio, “Asher, rendezvous. You know the drill.” You sigh, still recovering from whatever the hell that bitch did and make your way to the Field museum. Blinking up into the air, and then in the midst of recovering from the shock, casting yourself once and then again to find yourself at your destination likely just as jarred by the initial fall. The burn hurts, but it reminds you that you have your magic. That silence was terrifying.

The Museum's changed since you were here last, and you're the first of Zeitgeist to make it here, likely the Templars will be here in another hour or two. Why the fuck are they walking anyway? If not for magic they still have the modern goddamn convenience of a car.

If the City's state is any clue as to the effect the portal's had, the museum is a testament to what it will become. More recognizable now as a cathedral of the natural and magical world you see other humans that have gathered here in droves to play with faeries and explore themselves. Even as you look on, there are nude couples walking around, some even fornicating in their own writhing hedonism and love. Some faeries even join in, Faun and Satyrs enjoying themselves with human counterparts, nymphs in a recently formed pond.

You notice now that it's warm. This entire place is warm with a tepid glow somewhere between spring and summer. It's comfortable and the trees have regained all their leaves.

Seelie land... It's an eternal summer, isn't it?

“Oh, it's him!” Some faeries glimmer into existence, suddenly rushing you with little hugs and kisses.

“This is the one that opened the portal! He's The Ash!”

“Everyone, The Ash is here!”
>>
>>36636196

The tiny voices of the fae draw the attention of the many people gathered here, all bearing a wonderful and lovely glow..

“They said someone brought them here, that was you?”

“Is your arm made of wood? Were you born from a tree like the faeries say?”

“I expected taller, but you've got just the perfect height, don't you?”

The attention makes you fluster and blush, withdrawing a bit due to how unexpected it all is.

“We heard you're wed to the earth and forest.”

“Don't be silly, he's wed to their children. Aemili, and Meilia.”

Some of them begin to talk among themselves, driving their attention away from you. A faerie whispers in your ear, “You just need to smile, you know. They love you!”

>[] Smile at them, what's the harm?

Competence isn't about how much power you have but how you use it and Asher is quite poor at using his power.

>>
>>36636501
I think our marriage contract requires us to both be faithful
>>
>>36636531
Read the description of them. Keeping precharged Wisps makes them go wonky and completely unreliable. There's no reason to use one over a regular Fiend if we can maintain visual.
>>
>>36636548
We should send a few after the templars now, we might catch them off guard
>>
>>36636548
Only if we hold them too long. We can do it a few minutes in advance to shake off the burn and get a few extra hits in at the start of the fight. And the more times we get to practice it, the better it gets. Experience grinding.
>>
>>36636547
>I think our marriage contract requires us to both be faithful
Wait what? Fae never make contracts like that since fae are rampant sex maniacs.
>>

>>

I don't really know what to say anyway. They already got the gist of it with the "HE OPENED DA DOOR AND IS MADE OF TREE AND HAVE 2 WAIFU" thing.
>>
>>36636687
Wow. It just sunk in how people were complaining about him being an old man. Asher has more of classic mythology feel than most of the people we've met so far.
>>
>>36636748
>complaining
Nigga I wasn't complaining that shit is hilarious. He is somehow simultaneously chuuni as fuck and old man as fuck.

It's beautiful.
>>
>>36636216

You smile at them, if a little stupidly, at least you think so. But these people, high on whatever pixie dust they are, smile right back.

“He seems pretty nice.”

“Hey, want to go swimming in the lake?”

“With you? Of course.”

“Anyone else want to come?”

A few of them head off, while a few of the others get back to their own activities, some of them glancing over at you as you stand, trying to look strong for whatever reason. Some part of you'd reluctant to tell them of the disaster that's to come there way.

You whisper out into the ether for Legna, you need her by your side again for what's to come.

(I am sorry. They halted my time and cut me down. I am sorry...) She whispers in return. You feel how she's trying to reform.
(I will need a sacrifice or a day to reform. The wound is deep, yet I have kept the sword you have given me... If it is your wish, I will relinquish the blade to your care for the time, and fight with you as well as through you. I can sense that your death is to come, and I do not want to see you fall.

We have longer than an hour's time due to their wariness and the harassers that will give us the moments needed to fortify our defenses. In that time, I could bestow what I know of the sword to you.

>[] “What good will that do?”

Man, if we really wanted to push it, we could have told them we were born of the ocean, and the trees brought us back to life after we were cut down by the light. Because that's literally what happened, but phrasing it like that makes us sound like a big deal.

>>36636817

I don't think that works on flesh. And Dervish's scythe is soul-infused, so it follows the same rules as direct casting.
>>
>>36636945
Actually, if we have the sword, we could probably fight while casting Ignorance, which should fuck up two out of three.
>>
>>36636945
It works, we just have to specify that we want it to dissolve flesh
>>
>>36636954
Ignorance doesn't do anything to most Veins. The only Veins it would fuck up are the ones that use their soul to manipulate mana, like Cora. 99.9% sure that Dervish isn't a mana manip vein.
>>
>>36636965
Where has Dran ever said that?

And don't say "earlier in this thread when we were practicing Break bullets with Emilia", because that was saying that she didn't want to do Break-flesh enchants because it would disintegrate her hands.
>>
>>36636971
Ah well. If we can Blink in, geek the Nerve, and Blink out, that would be great. The Vein can presumably only Silence one person at a time, so time manipulation is, as expected, the greatest threat we've encountered thus far.

“Let's do it Legna.”

(Approach the portal... and draw the blade back from the ether.)

As you start to move with purpose into the sanctuary and to the tree of light, you see once more the beauty, oh how it's changed. Birds whistling, and faeries humming and playing, the windows colored into stained glass and letting rainbows come through with the shifting of the sky's own surreal colors. And the great Oak by which the painter herself, Camille waits, the one that's made this place all the more beautiful.

She smiles to you, not the expression that a lover might bear, but an old friend or a sister. “Oh, Asher! You've returned. What do you think? Isnt' it all lovely?”

“I remember when you painted her and I together. You painted flowers where there were none.” You smile back at her in return, “You haven't changed.”

“And you, giving people the lives they never knew they wanted.” She paints a stroke through the air, a clear blue splashing over your head, soaking your hair.

You wipe away the watercolor with a wave of your magic some of the human onlookers staring on in their blitzed wonder. “I guess I deserved that.”

Camille giggle, her voice now utterly feminine, you notice that her slight adam's apple is gone. “You look like you need something.”

“Yes,” You say, approaching the tree, drawing attention from the open outside, “I've come to collect my sword.”

“Your sword?” Camille raises an eyebrow, yet doesn't argue with you.

“Of course.” Standing before the tree's portal, you reach your wooden arm in and through feeling it attempt to draw you the whole way through, to take your entirety into the ether.
In a disjointed sort of feeling, you take hold of a corded grip.

“And whatever is your sword like?”

the sword is said to contain within its golden hilt one tooth of Saint Peter, blood of Saint Basil, hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to be the sharpest sword in all existence.

“It is a gift from the faeries made of daylight glass, it shines with the radiance of the sun even within the darkest of nights to banish evil. A Valkyrie was the first to hold it, and she bequeathed it to me so that even in her absence we may fight together.” You begin to pull it back, “It is braided with the chinhair of unicorns so that no man may ever wield it.”

“Then how do you hold it?” Camille asks, the onlookers stare on in silence awaiting your answer.

You look back at her, ignoring the others as they watch a moment that you make your legend. “A tree is no man.” As you relinquish the blade from the astral, the aforementioned traits cause the blade to shine with light throughout its glass blade.

Everyone watching stares on in stunned silence, wondrous amazement.

The Ash has drawn his sword.

“Does it have a name?” Camille asks.

And one name does come to you- “Aeirth.”

Well thanks for running. It was a great thread all things considered, and I'm so glad we went with the gift from the faeries.

Speaking of the Fay. I say we go full Fay if possible. Thoughts anons?
>>
>>36637917
This has been the sentiment for a long time, since the shitposters got blown out from their visions of dicks literally immediately after we passed on full fae.
>>
>>36637917
I've wanted to do that every chance we got, but people keep voting against it and then realizing they fucked up right afterwards.
>>
>>36637753
To not the strangeness of some of the first lines, it's mixing the lore of Faeries and Valkyries.
"A gift from the faeries" therefore can also be a gift from a Valkyrie under this circumstance.

It's surprising how ignorant some people are to what might seem to be common knowledge for mythologies and in the wake of all this, all these people that are joining with the Seelie are 100% on board this train.

>>36637867
He's holding it with his wooden arm.

That said, I need to tell you guys that it's likely # 24 will be the last thread. It's why I was reluctant to run, I don't want to see it come to an end, but it has to because need to make some changes in my life overall, go back to school and figure out how to balance everything while hopefully not having to work 40 hours a week,

That's not to say that I'm going to stop Overhuman. I mean, I know I'm not the best QM or even writer here or even anywhere else but you guys have given me some degree of confidence in this overall setting that I've spent even years prior playing with the idea of. Thanks to you guys I've actually committed this to some kind of format.

Before running quests I had a whole bunch of crazy ideas and still do- running around in my head for alterations to existing settings and other fanfiction.

One of those days I tolda friend, "Hey, you know what'd be cool? A crazy as fuck modern magic setting."

And I could never get it out of my head as something I'd want to write, see as a game, or even a comicbook. Sounds corny, but I guess in part I want to try chasing that dream.
>>
>>36637961
Fuck.
>>
>>36637961

For the loose ends attached to Asher's story, it'll be dependent on you guys how this ends, whether the he lives or dies on the next and last episode.

There will be an epilogue detailing the state of the world, how it's been affected by his actions, and those that even follow his example. I'll likely put up more short stories on Echidna, Daedalus, and the resolution of XIX and Kara's fates.

I'm thinking of doing a kickstarter to make the next year easier and allow me to get an artist or maybe even just an editor, but I want to thank you guys for putting up with my shit for the past, damn near two years actually.

And since you guys are probably the only other friend's I've had besides two that I left back in my home city I wouldn't mind trying to get to know some of you after the fact, maybe play some games on steam occasionally.

It's been a crazy ride.
>>
>>36637961
Sad to see it end. Going to school is a good reason for it though. I'll be sure to participate again if you come back sometime.

>that it's likely # 24 will be the last thread.

For obvious reasons that is disappointing... But ultimately I understand where you are coming from. Real life comes first. If it is possible, it would be really awesome if you would continue running. I don't particularly mind if its not anywhere near as often or if you run for less time... you've got me rather hooked and it would be awesome if you kept going.

Thank you for running all this time and I wish you the best, man.
