When last we left off due to server downtime, you were visiting Ilia Pazom, Marida, Diana, and Cynthia in Ilia's quarters. They had just finished confirming their orders for tomorrow's planned actions in Dakar.

“Haman will be going with Artesia,” you confirm. “I have no doubts she's got plenty to say to the Assembly that's worth saying. But I think they're both against taking Lady Mineva along, and I have to agree. She'll become involved sooner or later, whether we want that for her or not... but we can hold that day off for a while still.”

Ilia seems visibly relieved. “Sorry I doubted you guys,” she tells you. “I was afraid you were going to send the poor kid off with them.”

“It's fine.”

“No, it's really not,” Ilia counters. “I keep forgetting that you actually give a damn about all of us. It's refreshing, but hard to get used to.”

“Like I said,” you insist. “I'm not offended at all. Really, I'm just glad to know you care about our friends and shipmates too. I'm happy to hear it.”

Smiling, Ilia gives you a thumbs-up. “You've earned our trust, Commander. We'll rain hell on anyone who tries to stop you giving those Assemblymen a piece of our collective mind.”

What exactly is our current MS roster? Two Ikebananas on team 1, one Mk-2 and two Kampfer Kais on team 2, and the Val Varo and the three Tusche Schwarz on team 3. Correct?

Is Chris piloting the new Lilium GM-III or is she piloting Apolly's Refined Barzam?
>>
>>36633718
"Well, I suppose I'll have to make sure to do my job then," you reply. "Good to know you'll all have our backs."

"I'll take the girls to their room," Ilia offers. "Seems like you're making the rounds."

"I hate to put it that way, but yeah," you admit. "It's a big mission. Usually I trust you all to have your heads in the right place, but this time I have to make sure."

Ilia nods. "I'll allow it. C'mon, girls."

After a bit of looking, you finally track down Team 2: they're not meeting in a ready room, but rather in the hangar itself. They're running final checks on their machines, all save for Christina. She's going over manifests for ammunition counts, fuel supplies, and other vital materiel for her new team.

"Officer on deck!" someone shouts.

You raise your hands and shrug in the direction of the speaker: a new-looking NCO who sheepishly realizes that this isn't the sort of formal situation calling for that response.

"Gravity's on?" you ask as you approach Christina.

"We're done loading up," she tells you. "Checklists are easier to mark and fuel gauges are more accurate when stuff's not floating off."

"Point taken," you admit.

"HEY SKIP!" Christina barks. "Commander's here to see us!"

Emma's head pops out of her cockpit. "So he has!"

After clambering down the rungs of their respective ladders, they approach you quickly and professionally.

"Sir?" Emma asks. "What is it?"

Although we didn't personally see how Team 2 performed back in Libot, Emma and company handled themselves well despite the confusion on who's fighting which side.
This mission will hopefully be more clear cut than last time, in case any familiar faces show up. Jerid or Kacricon, for example.
>>
>>36634272
"So how do you feel about all this?" you ask, cutting straight to the point. "I mean, we're basically invading Dakar, and we'll probably not be too welcome in the EFSF after this."

Emma shrugs. "I don't like it, but we have few choices. We've got to stop Titans, even if it makes us unpopular."

"Fair," you grant her. "We've all been fighting for the Federation for a long time... aside from Apolly and Roberto."

Apolly nods at you appreciatively.

"Still, you have to figure you still are," Roberto replies. "You're not fighting alongside the EFF, but you're still fighting for their interests."

"That's not worth as much as you'd think," Christina cautions.

"Oh yeah, you feeling more up for piloting?" you ask the redhead.

She shakes her head. "Not sure. I don't have a machine to pilot anyhow, but I hope I'll be ready by the time we get one set up."

"And the Kampfers?"

"Loaded for midrange combat," Emma tells you. "Shotguns and rocket bazookas."

"Clay rounds?" you inquire.

"Planning on it," Apolly confirms. "I know, I know. Avoid combat blah blah civilians blah. We've got it."

September 17, UC0084.

It's time.

Dakar is a city nestled on a small peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic, making it fairly easy to seal off if need be. The Nagato acts as a large deterrent on the inland side of the city, essentially taking the role of a large AA battery. Stationed there is your Second Team, which is better able to respond to a threat to the ship herself by using Base Jabbers to counter airborne or highly mobile threats while the Nagato pounds the ground out from anyone foolish enough to try making it past that way. An induced list of 5 degrees port gives Karen a slightly better field of fire for her dorsal guns.

Meanwhile the Valkyrie has moved towards the point of the peninsula with Third, seeking to screen against submarines or air attacks from that direction. Third itself is set to move towards the Assembly building on Karen's command, securing a route for a trio of transport helicopters "appropriated" from Woomera. These will be in charge of inserting Artesia, Haman, and twenty-four Marines set to guard them and to secure the building.

Your own team is set to patrol the airspace around Dakar and escort the helicopters closely in and out, since the Lilium machines can move faster than a loaded Base Jabber in atmosphere when they're separated.

"SOUND OFF!" Karen radios.

"Team Three, okay!"

"Team Two, okay!"

"Team One, ready to engage," you reply, settling into your unusually empty cockpit. Even though the normally spherical monitors have been brought in closer to your sides and head, visible between the redesigned "superleggera" interior support frames and instruments panels on either side, the empty spot in front of you is almost disconcerting.

Sure, Nina brought in a consultant from Touring to do the design, but it's just not comfortable without Haman there.

Now I'm suddenly wondering if our Val Varo is capable of swimming.
A shame that the Shamblo probably still doesn't exist by this point. Two mobile armors duking it out would be quite a damn sight to behold.
>>
>>36635823
"Rosse, Carya," you order. "Split into Viola and Sericea, cover the perimeter of the city. We'll close in on subflight with the helos. Sound good?"

"Got it."

"Solid copy."

"Indeed."

A voice greets you over your comm as the helicopters depart the Nagato, on schedule. "This is Catharine," Ensign Blitzen tells you. "I'll be dedicated support for Lilium and Iris for the op."

"Read you loud and clear, Cath," Adurey confirms. "Waiting for your word."

"Launch in three... two... one... MARK."

There's a familiar surge of force as your machines are catapulted out over the city of Dakar, and you slow your Base Jabber nearly to its stall speed in order to keep pace with the helicopters headed for the Assembly.

The city itself seems ill-suited to host such an important group of diplomats: buildings are mostly stuccoed brick and concrete construction, much of which hasn't been kept up very well for a matter of years. Block after block of apartments slide beneath you, broken by increasingly large and numerous blocks of green with swimming pools. No doubt those are people with actual money.

That means the Assembly can't be too far out.

"Titans radio chatter detected," ALICE informs all your teams at once. "Be advised, multiple contacts inbound."

"How many?" you ask her.

"What vectors?" Carya demands, not used to the AI being so vague.

There's a worrisome pause.

"All of them."

Now would be the time for the helos to hit the deck and discharge their passengers. They'd have far better luck surviving on foot than in one of those flying death traps with mobile suits afoot. They're practically stationary targets for MS weaponry. Or have them pull a Bond-est maneuver and land on the Base Jabber.

"What do you mean, 'all of them'?" Emma asks nervously.

"Several squadrons of four each, mix of Asshimars and the new Gaplants," Catharine informs you.

ALICE interrupts. "Revised estimate paints eight MS on subflight boosters, three teams of mixed composition. Total twenty machines. Reserves include an unknown number of fighters at a nearby EFF regular airstrip."

You let loose a small whistle as the choppers reach their intended target. "Damn, they know how to roll out the welcome wagon!"

"Stick close for now," Carya suggests.

"We have the perimeter," Rosse agrees.

You shrug to yourself. "Audrey? Wanna listen in on the proceedings?"

"Definitely," your copilot agrees. "Cath, can you get us feed from inside the building?"

"Hang on," Catharine tells you. "Civilian broadcasts are rolling, and Artesia's contact in the media seems to have come through. We're getting it all."

"ALICE, keep an eye on those MS," you order. "Tag 'em for all of us when they're in range."

"Yes, sir," she replies.

Suddenly, you're greeted by static and shouting as Catharine patches a feed from inside the Assembly to you: your Marines are just now "introducing themselves", you think. Thankfully, no shots are fired.

"Chatter is increasing on all Titans channels," ALICE warns you. "Signal from Mr Shiden is being broadcast on every major outlet."

Kai, you magnificent son of a bitch. How I love you. We're taking you out for a drink after this, if we're not too busy fighting a civil war.
>>
>>36636764
Over the din, you hear a familiar voice.

“First off, I feel like we should apologize to this Assembly for the interruption," Artesia announces. "But in order for us to say our piece, I'm afraid we had to force the issue. Too many people now would much rather talk than listen, when listening is what you should be doing.”

“Who the Hell are you?” a pompous, nasally voice responds loudly.

“Artesia Som Deikun, daughter of Zeon Zum Deikun.”

“That's not possible. You're supposed to be dead!” the voice counters.

“Sorry to disappoint you, but Jimba Ral and Don Teabolo Mass harbored the Deikun children prior to the war,” Haman replies loudly. “I can assure you, she's quite real. Char Aznable was actually Casval Rem Deikun, too. Just in case you were curious.”

“And who are you to talk such nonsense, girl?” the third voice presses, though the man it belongs to is sounding increasingly worried.

“Haman Karn, once called the Princess of Axis.”

There's quite a stirring of voices and the sounds of people moving about the room. One of the Marines barks an order for someone to take their seat.

Catharine radios again. "Contacts inbound, they're splitting. Dom, Audrey, four Gaplants inbound your location!"

"Hold!" Karen orders. "Don't fire first. Watch for debris hitting civilian areas, be sure not to overshoot!"

“This is the point where my brother Casval would have a prepared speech ready. Sadly I'm... well, I'm not gifted with his patience for such things,” Artesia's voice admits. “So I'll be brief.”

You key your own mic to Audrey. "Keep combined, separate as a surprise if the bastards try and engage the Assembly."

"Roger that," Audrey replies. "My own weapons are hot, safety off. On your word."

“Humanity went to space for a reason: because the Earth couldn't support us all anymore. We went to space not as brave pioneers, but kicking and screaming like children. As reluctantly as we left, however, our success in space managed to fill many of us with hubris and greed, creating people like the Zabis! During the war I fought against the Principality numerous times, not in spite of the fact that I'm the true daughter of Zeon, but because of it. It's because I saw first-hand the corruption and hatred spread by the Zabis and their Principality, all for the sake of their own power, that I risked my life to fight them.”

"Carya, Rosse," you radio the other half of your team. "Could you rally at the Assembly if I needed you?"

"Negative!" Carya responds loudly. "We've got fires to put out from this approach."

"Engaged in maneuvers," Rosse replies tersely. "Cannot safely disengage."

“Today,” Haman adds, “we come before you not as emissaries of Zeon, or as veterans of the Earth Federation Forces, but as normal people who dearly love the peoples of both space and the Earth, and who have grown tired of seeing needless wars between them.”

"Well played," you comment as the Gaplants close in. Two of them are standard configurations, but one has missile racks instead of beam guns on its boosters. The fourth has a heavy gun on its crotch armor... and is piloted by someone who feels like a Newtype.

"This is Commander O'Hara of the Nagato," you order firmly as you roll your Base Jabber away from the oncoming Gaplants, then again to shake a missile lock. "I'm ordering you to stand aside. Do not engage within the city: I repeat, do NOT engage within the city!"

Three of the Gaplants continue countering your evasive maneuvers expertly, in part due to the Base Jabber slowing you down from what you SHOULD be capable of.

"One peeled off!" Audrey reports in surprise as the Newtype-piloted machine takes up a position slowly orbiting the Aseembly building. "Seems they're curious about what's going on inside."

“Four years after the One Year War, the worst in human history, we find ourselves faced with a dilemma: what to do with ourselves in our enemy's absence,” Artesia's voice narrates. “Well, let's look at some of the options.”

Catharine contacts you over the radio. "No fire so far, all units currently facing opposition save for Third."

“The Titans would see the Federation lord their renewed authority over all humanity, and crush any dissent with an iron fist,” Haman continues, audibly pounding her fist into her hand to emphasize the point. “They have the technology, this Assembly has given them the authority. And THIS is what they have chosen to do with it.”

"Marida, have your sisters ready for anti-air fire," you order. "Ilia, prep for spotting."

"Roger," Ilia replies.

"Aye aye, sir!" Marida chirps.

“Watch closely. Don't look away,” Haman insists, clearly coming to the 'visual aid' portion of the exercise. “You have no RIGHT to look away. Not from this."

There are a series of gasps and moans audible over the recording. "Get this!" the man responsible for the feed insists. "People need to see this."

Those sorts of ambitions have left us with enough dead to mourn already, heroes and bystanders alike.”

"We've been engaged!" Carya shouts over the mic. "Shit's on, boys and girls! I'm returning fire!"

"Split off!" you shout.

"Mark!" Audrey shouts, splitting away from your half of the machine and veering off in the Iris. One of the missiles hits your Base Jabber, where you just were. Your own machine cannons take out one of the missiles, but the third slams into a parking structure in the city below.

"FUCK!" you shout over the radio, spamming all the Titans in range. "Stop shooting, dammit!"

Audrey, meanwhile, races to grapple the wreckage of the downed Base Jabber, successfully hitting it with her wires and slowing its descent before zooming off just above street level, pursued by two Gaplants.

“Speaking of 'bystanders', it seems the Titans are eager to prove our point. If you could still doubt their brutality, see it for yourselves!” Haman declares. There are gasps as stray fire from some battle or other hits near the Assembly building. Snippets of dialogue from your team make their way into your headphones as well.

"Team Three is engaging hostiles out to sea!" Catharine reports. "Titans units engaging on all fronts!"

“They place themselves above the regular Earth Federation Forces and label anyone who opposes them “evil”, or “Zabi-sympathizers”," Artesia tells her audience. "But what they fail to realize is that their own hunger for power is the greatest evil; their arrogance will be the ruin of humanity! Those of you who are watching this battle as it unfolds must realize by now that this is how the Titans go about their business. I admit, it was wrong to take over this assembly, but what of the Titans who were trying to destroy it with the members still inside? Would they even murder their own benefactors in their lust for power?”

"Engaging!" Carya shouts, having employed a beam defense tactic to lure one of her enemies into chasing the Sericea. "Splash one!"

Yeah, no giant doom beams in the middle of a city. Though don't our beam sabers pull double duty as beam spray guns? We could use those without undue collateral.

Your opponent is the standard Gaplant that stayed behind to fight you. So you pull into guns range and pour 90mm fire into it. The shells tear into its armor, and you see some smoke pouring out of its main thrusters. In all likelihood it's out of the fight, and the pilot knows it. He peels off and heads out over the ocean away from your area of operation.

Cynthia, Marida, and Diana begin to maneuver along with the Valkyrie as Carrina and Rossweisse drive off the last of their opponents, and Audrey is nowhere to be seen.

"Audrey here, count one maneuver victory. One Gaplant left."

"The regulars are pulling back under heavy fire," Emma reports. "Karen, adjust fire East, five hundred!"

"Regroup and prep for extraction!" Karen orders.

The lone Gaplant that has yet to engage circles the Assembly building, then wiggles its shield booster at you before throttling up and chasing after their comrade who's already fled the scene. That Newtype presence eventually fades from your mind, and you make careful note of what it felt like in case you encounter this pilot again.

Last I checked, two were on her tail. Looks like those wing booster/weapon binders in the Gaplant are key weaknesses. And Audrey would know how to take those out, it's her design after all.

Have the choppers sit and away team sit tight on the ground. The area is nowhere near secure enough to risk a hot evac with slow ass helos. Wait until Karen gives the all clear before we pull out the Zeke Princesses' and their escorts. One good beam rifle shot and that's it.

Just gonna post this here as the other thread is full of anger.
I like the Kancolle Quest but I swear it either attracts the wrong people or it's during everyone's bad days. There must have been more arguments in those 3 threads than in the entire SoZ Quest combined.

It's a built up immunity to Tomino works kinda thing, personally. And I'm not really interested in Kancolle.

I really don't think this is the proper avenue for addressing whatever stuff is happening in the other thread. Do please leave this one in peace.
>>
>>36638708

"Audrey, you got that bogey?" you ask over your radio, though you can feel she's not in danger.

"Got its booster," she tells you. "Coming back to you."

"The AO is still active," you tell the chopper crews. "We'll keep a corridor open for you!"

"Roger that," the pilot responds. "Kilo two-three to Kilo dispatch, we're mobile. Keep the lane clear, over."

Sure enough, an Asshimar tries to make a move on the helos... only to find himself literally disarmed as Rossweisse takes a beam saber to him as he transforms. With no options to attack, he high-tails it out of the area like all the rest.

And just as quickly as you rolled into Dakar and took the whole city over, you and your forces withdraw cleanly.

With nothing more than a broken ankle among the Marines as your only casualty.

"Holy shit," Haman mutters when you reunite in the hangar amidst hundreds of cheers.

"I can't believe that actually worked."

"Neither can I," Artesia admits.

Emma stares at her aghast. "But it was YOUR plan!"

"I know!" Artesia shoots back. "And it was stupid, and I can't believe it worked.

He's making a joke that canon Artesia and Haman have very similar haircuts. The don't really look that much alike otherwise, but it's enough that a small child could confuse the two of them. Of course, it's irrelevant in this timeline, Haman grew her hair back out. Also, I imagine that any children watching would probably be focusing more on their first exposure to the concept of death.

The atmosphere in your ready-room is festive, like a birthday party, Christmas, and Labor Day all rolled into one and played out in a single hour.

"No casualties," Karen crows, holding a shot of booze out and linking arms with you, "moderate property damage, and minor injuries on the ground."

"Pretty fucking spectacular," you admit before pounding the drink down amid cheers and laughter. "I take it Jamitov's on full damage control?"

"I think he shit his pants when he found out," Reiko giggles. "We intercepted some of the radio traffic... man, that guy came up with some creative words starting with "fuck"."

"Did he now?"

"Even better?" Carya announces, coming over while holding onto Rossweisse's shoulders for support. "They're thinking about founding a new faction against Titans. Blex Four... Foursquare, or something. Some dude liked the speech and wants to throw mooks in behind us."

"To the revolution!" Haman raises her glass in mock solemnity.

"Hear hear!" Emma cheers loudly, drunker than you've ever seen her.

But as if to throw a damper on the whole event, ALICE appears on a screen between you and Artesia, who's been quietly sharing drinks with Haman so far.

"Commander?" ALICE asks tentatively. What can an AI be tentative about?

"Yes, m'dear?" you reply casually.

"Call came in for Miss Haman and Miss Artesia."

"And?" Artesia asks brightly. "Well come on, who is it?"

"Char Aznable."

Haman and Artesia exchange an awkward glance.

"Well," you reply after a few seconds of inaction. "Put him through, ALICE."

The third guess would've involved the Jovian man.

>>36639040
Thanks. Shame about that last thread's downtime breaking this up to two. Maybe a few players still in should've just kept it bumped, in hindsight. Oh well.
>>
>>36639070
There was a needle to be threaded in terms of success: too good at the wrong spots, and you could actually have come off as trying to goad a reaction from Titans, for example.

People listened. A lot of the people in power have their doubts after what Haman and Artesia showed them and said to them, and the Titans made even worse asses of themselves than in the series without doing any REAL damage.
>>
>>36639132
Damn, is it me or do we have the strangest luck in breaking cannon for the better in a grim situation?
>>
>>36639132
Oh man.

So we just managed it?

Whats the reaction from EFSF and Titan line units? I'm guessing the colonies are seeing this and Cima is laughing her ass off, pleased.
>>
>>36639132
Alrighty then.
I'm guessing our next stop is either Jaburo, or the solar mirror super weapon.

Also, I was half-expecting some African Zeon remnants to do an impromptu sortie towards Dakar once Artesia and Haman revealed their identities. Might be crazy enough for them to consider, but ultimately I'm relieved it didn't devolve into a frantic 3-way melee.
>>
>>36639170
Oh Cima is probably more than laughing, hell she will probably throw a party to celebrate how we invaded Dakar and interrupted the council meeting to broadcast our message to the people and make the Titans look like fools at the same time.
>>
>>36639199
I like to think that in the alternate universe where this quest's plot was canon, Cima will have laughed at Dominic fucking people over so much over the course of the series that /m/ makes "laughing Cima" macros instead of "laughing Char" ones.
>>

There are probably a lot of "normal" people who have decided that the wars being fought around and over Earth are retarded, both in the EFF and in the Colonies.

And Cima probably wants the D now, if she didn't before.
