Welcome to the XLIX installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

---Equipment---
Holy Fire: All ranged attacks are doused in it, and he can pour it onto the field. Burning and +3 if resisted with Robustness
Papal Staff: +6 Melee, and due to the focused belief of the Church held within it, it can be used to regain a will point if its power is drawn on for 3 actions.
Ornate Crossbow: +4 Ranged
Robes of the Pontifex: +2 to Persuade Catholics, +2 Intimidate, +4 Prevent Harm, and he is defended from the effects of Holy Fire

---Traits---
Devout: +10 to resist Persuade and Deceit unless the person in question knows his specific doubts. To do this, they need to have obtained them from him, via something like hearing him in confessional or reading his diary (or hearing his shame-singing)
Master of an Army: Can call in any Villains that haven’t been defeated
KING: This unit is a KING, with all the benefits that entails.
Echo Chamber: Frollo gets a bonus against social attacks based on how many Villains or Inner Circle members are nearby. +5 per Villain, +2 per Inner Circle
Unwavering Will: 1 Extra Will Point.
>>
>>36637040
---Powers---
Burning Judgement: For one will point, Frollo can heat up all magic items held or worn by the players. This effect lasts for 2 turns, and forces all players wearing or holding magic items to make a TN 30 Endure check to hold onto their items. If they fail, they must either drop the item in question, losing all bonuses associated with it until they take an action to pick it up, or take 1 physical strike. Armor cannot be dropped, although you could take it off with an action.
Call to Arms: Can call 5d6 Mooks at the cost of 1 Will Point
Hellfire: For a Will Point, Frollo can start huge fires in his general vicinity. The heat and smoke from these fires causes everyone to make a TN 30 Endure roll when it is there turn, and if they fail, they get to choose between taking a physical Strike or losing two actions to try to recover from the smoke
Dark Fire: For a single Will point, Frollo can shape fire into a manifestation of his own will. These shapes count as having 16 Agility and 16 Melee, he summons 1 per Will point spent, and they cannot be harmed. Instead, they dissipate after 2 turns. They get 2 attacks per turn.

He's an undead abomination now right? So he should probably get the Undead trait.
>>
>>36637099
Oh, I wasn't clear on that. Where did that even come from? It wasn't really in the movie.
>>
>>36637120
I don't know.
We apparently made him an undead insane abomination from all the other evil and "heretical" nations around him.
>>
>>36637099
Also, the normal Undead trait is meant for the mindless undead, zombies and the like, who are unable to be reasoned with or persuaded because they lack the capacity for that kind of thought, so a lich would probably need a different trait, because liches have a much closer facsimile of life than zombies. Liches don't really work with the Undead trait as it stands, but if someone can make a better one, that's fine with me. Mine is just based off of watching the movie a week or two ago.

Effective Prevent Harm 24 is a bit low. Endure 20 is very low. Increasing TN when resisting Holy Fire with a specific stat is very weird and I personally don't like it, but I'm not the one writing it. Probably want to change Robes of the Pontifex to just +2 Persuade, +2 Intimidate, +4 Prevent Harm, No Holy Fire damage, etc. +6 on Papal staff is absolutely absurd but he's a King, so.... He should honestly regain a will point once every two rounds regaredless of what he's doing rather than requiring him to stand still and waste ~16 actions to get one back. Change Call To Arms to 3x, where X is the number of players. You'll have the same average result and won't be as spiky. His attack methods are a bit weak at +22 or +26 each.

Hellfire is party-crippling. Seriously. Make an incredibly tough Endurance roll or take a strike automatically every turn (and everyone has max, six strikes) or LOSE THEIR ENTIRE TURN. Jesus!
Honestly, you could take him down in ~4 rounds with an Intimidate-based party member, which would be hilarious but stupid. Needs a bit of tweaking.

It never hurts to see if people are still holding interest in your work.

Now, onward!

--

The squad gingerly crossed the clearing into the statue garden, breaking off into smaller groups as they saw what perked their interest. Heroes and messengers were gathered into this solemn place, bodies posed in their final moments. Knights, seated on horseback or caught in mid-swing, stood next to Western gunslingers, caught aiming at a target that had long since retreated back to her icy lair. Messengers from countless kingdoms, tears rolling down their cheeks, stood side by side with wild beasts, fangs bared. Fae creatures were caught in mid-flight, some running and others aiming crude recurve bows or casting out their hand as if producing magics unknown.

Anna, unperturbed by the groups’ caution, continued speaking. “I know! You guys are too shocked to say anything!” She threw her arms wide. “So—this is where Elsa dumps the people that come to see her. N-not to say that this is gonna happen to you; to be completely honest, most of these guys were heroes dumb enough to come here in small groups or on their own in an attempt to make a name for themselves. Others just seemed to be messengers asking about some of the dignitaries that may not have made it back when the Big Winter hit.”

“The arrangement of these statues looks a little too precise to have simply been ‘dumped’,” Zoe said, placing air quotes on the last word.

“You can thank me for arranging the statues after they’ve been sent here.” Anna grinned. “I can tell you—these guys? Great company—absolutely stellar listeners. Not much to say for themselves, though.” Anna chuckled.

“And you’ve been collecting these guys for /how/ long, Anna?” Womack asked.

“Not sure—years, maybe? Heck, I couldn’t even tell you what month it is right now, let alone the day.” The ice statue shrugged.

Kavita came across a cluster of armored figures set against the backdrop of the waterfall. Their armor, in some places dented, scratched, or missing entirely, looked to be a cross between Medieval plate armor and priestly robes, both intricately patterned with crosses. Two were on the ground—one was aiming what looked to be a flamethrower compacted into a pistol while the other appeared to be fading fast from an ice spike jutting from her breastplate. Five more figures were standing. One, his helm marked with a terrible gash wrapping around the side as though ripped through with claws, held in each of his hands a mace and sword.

Two others held different types of flamethrower, one, his head turned to the side as if she were yelling to his companions, was dual-wielding the flame pistols Kavita had seen previously and the other bracing while with both hands brandishing a larger flamethrower like it was a chainsaw. Another, one eye covered in what used to be cloth, appeared to be caught right before leaping, about to bring his spear down on some unfortunate target. The final member of the group seemed to tower over the rest. He held in his right a closed book, the sigil burned onto the cover unreadable; in his left he held a staff, the Roman cross at the top. His shaven head was turned skyward, his lips parted as thought caught in mid-prayer. Kavita squatted in front of the wounded woman, her face a mixture of pain and fear. The Indian woman shook her head and sighed, squeezing her eyes shut. Absentmindedly she reached out to stroke a tear running off the woman’s cheek, but caught herself before her gloved hand touched the ice.

“I knew him,” called a voice from behind her. Kavita turned to see her squadleader standing behind her. “I knew the Inquisitor standing at the back.”

Kavita stood up. “You did?”

“Inquisitor Bartholomew.” Thach paced around the cluster of men and women as if they were sculptures in a gallery. “The Church knew him as ‘Bartholomew of Pamplona’. He was a good man—hard, but good.” The Canadian woman stopped to inspect the flame pistols being held in one of the Inquisitor’s retinue. “I’d had a couple run-ins with the Inquisitor and his entourage in the past—most recent was maybe seven months before this job started. I was in New Orleans, pulling security with Bernadette, Zoe, and Jun for an investigative team looking into several diverted supply shipments for the Empire’s colonies in the Caribbean. As it just so happened, the good Inquisitor was in town as well, albeit for a different issue that was related to ours—he never brought it up, though.” She leaned in close to inspect the engraving running along one of the Inquisitor’s retinue’s pauldrons. “I remember it was around Mardi Gras because the city was decked out and ready to sin, and because Bernadette had suggested that, had we some time, we visit her family down in Cajun country. Anyway—Inquisitor Bartholomew had thought it pragmatic that, since we were after the same group of people, we join forces to look for our common enemy.”

Kavita crossed her arms. “Was it your call to make that decision to work together or the Investigation Team?”

“And the cause of the redirected shipments?”

“Pirates.” Thach leaned back. “Two days after Agent Lewis caught wind of the New Orleans Police Department’s investigation did Agent Cotton manage to nab one of the Shadow Man’s informants that got pinched by the local cops. It took a little bit of finagling on our part, but eventually he squealed after he was...put to the torch.” Thach licked her teeth, directing her gaze toward the heavy flamethrower held by one of the Inquisitor’s henchmen. “The informant pointed us in the direction of the bayou, to an old Indian fort. When we arrived, we found out our pirate gang was actually a group of Atlantean deserters, running a group of midget submarines in and out of the shallow waterways. More important at that moment, we also found out that our gang wasn’t present, so it was my decision to set up an ambush and catch the entire group unaware, wipe them out wholesale.”

“And how did that plan work out?” Kavita said.

“Magnificently.” Thach smiled. “Had our forces on both sides of the main road heading into camp, remote mines set to detonate with pressure sensors, it was a beautiful, textbook ambush. To make a short story out of a shorter firefight, we killed almost all of the deserters, took one sorely wounded Atlantean pirate into custody, and recovered several thousand dollars in Atlantean weapons and assorted cargo. We were in and out of the swamps in three hours, with the Shadow Man none the wiser.”

“What about the Inquisitor?”

“He and his entourage recovered some bundled up artifacts from the interiors of the midget submarines before torching them.” Thach started to look at the purity seals on the spear caught in mid-flutter. “When we got back into the city proper, we all parted ways—the Investigative Team with their prisoners back to Atlantis to provide proper ‘questioning’, Inquisitor Bartholomew and his retinue back to Toledo, and me and Jun back into the bayou, being led by our intrepid Acadian to celebrate ‘a real backwoods Mardi Gras’, as she so proudly put it.”

“Oaken said that the last people to come pass his way were a group that said they were ‘from the Church’.” Kavita said.

“It’s a shame.” Allyson flexed her wrist.. “I would have liked to have met the Inquisitor again on better terms.”

The treeline the squad had just exited shuddered. The snap of branches gave way to the cracking of trunks. The treetops themselves shuffled as a gigantic mass bustled forward, its footsteps uncharacteristically soft. “What the hell was that?” Kavita whispered. “Bear?”

“That ain’t no bear.” Ezekiel raised his rifle. “Bears don’t move trees when they walk.”

The snap of tree trunks continued its slow advance to the treeline. The squad fanned out among the statues, trying to use the standing corpses as best they could for makeshift cover. The source of the commotion didn’t so much run file between the trees so much as it exploded into the clearing. Anna shrunk at the sight of the monster. “Oh no,” she breathed.

It was tall—at least twenty feet. Rods of solid ice connected oversized hands to its hulking frame. Stubby legs protruded from its rotund body. Ice spikes sheathed its back like porcupine quills, still more lined its maw. It turned its frame toward the squad, sweeping the statue garden with empty eye sockets.

Anna breathed once, twice. Then, she stood up, put on the bravest face she could, and stepped toward the snow golem. “Heeeeeeeey, buddy~!” She managed a small wave. “Didn’t expect to see you in the garden, how’ve you been? Nothin’ to see here, nosiree! Just little old me. Noone else. At all.”

The golem regarded her with a blank stare. It snorted, delicately wrapping icy talons around her body. “Wha-hey!” Anna shouted. “Put me down!”

The golem shuffled over to a snowdrift and, without a word, dropped the ice princess straight into the soft powder, engulfing her entirely. “There’s noone else here, you dumb—!”

The idea of the Holy Fire thing is that it's not any harder to dodge, but you can't stand through it easily.
>waste ~16 actions to get one back
What? It was 3. How many actions do Kings get per turn? I think it's 4, but I could be wrong. The idea was to let him gain a will point in one turn and then use it that same turn with his last remaining action.

Hellfire was supposed to be a one-turn thing. Sorry, that was badly worded, I'll reword it.

I'm buffing his attacks now. He is kind of a jack of all trades, master of none as of now, and he needs a clearer attack option.

Also, Echo Chamber makes it so he is very sure of himself right up until he's alone, and I'm giving him a flock of 12 sycophants that effectively must be killed before hurting him socially

“Now!” Thach stood up, bringing her carbine to her shoulder.

A plethora of blue-purple streaks streamed from the statue garden, impacting hard against the snow golem. Each hit blew chunks of snow and ice off the creature as it shrieked in pain. It brought a massive hand in front of itself to provide a futile shield. Pan, after spooling up the energy from his wand, brought a blue-white flash to bear on the golem’s arm, severing it completely.

“Focus fire!” Thach barked inbetween shots. “Bring it down!”

The creature, somehow emboldened by the withering assault, turned its furious shuffle into a slow charge. Zoe phased out the rest of combat, bracing herself against a rearing horse as she took aim at one of the golem’s knees. Time slowed. She held her breath.

Now.

The blue streak flew true, blowing apart the beast’s leg. The howl the beast uttered was almost as loud as the crash it made as it impacted the snow. Still determined, it crawled forward with its one good arm. The squad refused to move from their positions as they poured on the fire. Womack pulled off a grenade from his belt and pulled the pin. “Frag out!” He chucked the grenade straight at the golem’s head, sticking it firmly in one of its empty eye sockets. The beast gave out one last scream before its head exploded in a haze of blue, the rest of its body collapsing into a pile of snow and ice.

The scents of burning wood and ozone filled the air, the remains of the snow-golem silently melting alongside. The squad slowly, cautiously crept out of their positions behind standing corpses. “Anna?” Thach called out. “You okay?”

A hand burst from the top of the snowdrift, giving the thumbs up.

Distant roars, similar to the ones emitted by the fallen golem, were heard from all around, followed closely by the cracking of pine trunks. “Oh, nuts,” Zeke muttered.

“Think we can outrun them?” Catherine asked.

“No time,” Thach said. “But I think I know a way we can shift this fight in our favor.” She turned to her favorite explosives expert. “Womack, I want you to mine this garden—statues trees, whatever you think might go boom in a big way.”

“On it, boss.” The demolitions expert shuffled off into the statue garden, followed shortly by the medic.

“Kavita, you pack any rifle grenades?”

“HEAT and Smoke rounds aplenty, Cap.”

“I’m gonna need you, Martin, and Pan right there atop the waterfall. This entire ground floor? This’ll be our killzone—anything gets in here, you hit it with enough explosives and lightning that it’s like the fist of Zeus himself is coming down, you hear me?”

“Understood.” The Chinese man nodded, nudging both of his compatriots in the direction of the frozen edifice.

I'm aware that was the intention, but it seems like it's specifically punishing Robust characters for no real reason.

As it stands, the wording is that he needs to spend 3 turns (or, 12 actions, sorry) to recharge ONE Will point. Tighten the wording a bit and it should be cleared up.

Only protects him from Deceit and Persuasion. Big McLargeHuge can still Intimidate him against Endure +20, which means that the average On-A-Roll T-Rex can strike him three times with a Tyrant's Roar. Non-Carnosaurs'll have to do with just 2 strikes an action.

“What about me, Cap?” Catherine asked stepping forward.

“Miss Beckett, I’m gonna need you to stick with Anna.” Thach looked toward the snowdrift, seeing it partially destroyed. “Where is she?”

“Heere~” She sang. “I’ll be honest—I didn’t think you guys would be able to handle that! I’m just glad that you’re okay, and—”

“Anna.” Thach laid a hand on the ice statue’s shoulder, shutting the woman’s tirade up immediately. She could have sworn she had felt the statue shiver. “I’m gonna need you to keep Catherine safe. Bernadette will be with you just in case. Can you do that for me?”

Anna looked away, pensive. She bit her lip. “Okay.” She nodded. “Yeah, I can do that.”

“Thank you, Anna.” Thach smiled.

“Oho, don’t worry about me, Cap!” Anna gave a mock salute. “I’ll keep ‘em under lock and key! Just you wait—it’ll take more than a couple snow golems to pry them away from me!” She grinned, bidding the emmissary and the radiowoman to follow her into the woods.

Thach watched the trio leave before turning attention back to her slapdash ambush preparations. Lahey walked up right beside the captain. “You sure this’ll work, Cap?”

“I’m not gonna lie, Zeke.” Thach sighed. “I’ve fielded worse against bigger baddies, but this probably takes the cake for making the best of a bad situation.” She turned her head, regarding the medic with a sidelong glance. “Stick with me. This looks like it’ll get dicey really quick.”

Actually, Echo Chamber has always protected him against all social attacks. I changed Devout to work on all social attacks too.

>As it stands, the wording is that he needs to spend 3 turns (or, 12 actions, sorry) to recharge ONE Will point.
Umm... it says 3 actions. I made sure it didn't say turns so it would fit the action economy. I think you may have misread.

>I'm aware that was the intention, but it seems like it's specifically punishing Robust characters for no real reason.
If I can come up with a justification, I'd gladly change it. Anyway, I was working under the assumption that more Robust characters would be in the front, fighting the melee attack that is better anyways (+28 now to +27, counting Holy Fire on Ranged). Although you are right, because there could be Robust characters who may be primarily Charming or Sensible or Intelligent who just use Robust to defend. I'll have to think of how to justify it being harder to dodge. Splashing holy fire maybe?

By the way, using Acrobatics instead of Prevent Harm to dodge: legal or not?

Seems likely. It's 3:30AM here, so I'm a bit rusty.
>By the way, using Acrobatics instead of Prevent Harm to dodge: legal or not?
Generally not legal. Prevent Harm is supposed to cover almost all possible means of avoiding being hurt by physical attacks. A power or two that uses it, I could see, and perhaps a specific King, but players; No.

Queen La of the Leopard Kingdom
Empress Yzma of the Sunless Empire
General Santa Anna of the Empire of Mexico
Imperial President Lyle Tiberius Rourke of the Imperial Republic of Atlantis
The Huntsmen of the Elite Global Huntsman Club (Muntz, Gaston, McLeach, Buldeo, Amos Slade, King Fergus)
Chairman Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Co.
King Louis of the Kingdom of the Red Flower
Bagheera, Lord of the Free Creatures (done?)
King Ratigan of the Under-Empire

Really? We're done with all of that? Neat.

By the by, I know this is just spitballing while more pressing matters need to be figured out, but just what sorta Disney and/or Pixar movies would we include in a modern/futuristic expansion? The list so far I've been thinking of has:

Big Hero 6
TRON
Wreck-it Ralph
The Incredibles
Up
Monsters, Inc.
WALL-E
Treasure Planet
Lilo & Stitch

Unless there's carryover from the base set of KLR's, I'm seeing a lot of the campaigns started in this expansion to either be interstellar hijinks, superheroics, or cyberspace finagling, and I'm probably more interested in the last two than the first one.
>>
Alameda Slim is a really interesting part of this setting. He's the most chronologically recent Victorious Villain, so recent that he's a biologically normal human with no immortality. Until he came along, the western United States may have been the last free place on Earth, fighting off the man in the top hat to the east. Slim needs to think about his place in the wretched world and whether he claims immortality and how, and he also needs to WATCH HIS FUCKING BACK.

So glad to see that these threads are still going. I was pulled away by real life issues for about a week so I have a lot to catch up with, threads, fluff, crunch, playtesting, all of it. Even more so now that he has to contend with Santana to the south. The main thing about Slim is that he's probably one of the easier, if not the easiest, king to take down, but do you really want to do it? He's not evil, just a greedy asshole, and taking him out would probably give a free pass to worse things like Facilier.

>>

>>
>>36640084

Back in the first thread, there was talk about Vanellope still floating around the Grid as some sort of "digital ghost story," with graffiti found around Game Central Station and other hubs implying that she isn't quite as King Candy would like to believe: a heavily artifacty JPEG of her victory pose that keeps showing up, buggy sound effects that almost sound like her laugh or her voice trying to communicate, a collection of random glitches in the shape of a small figure watching from inaccessible areas, seen briefly before they flicker out again.

Some of her former racemates, before King Candy had them hauled off, have even been heard to say that Vanellope was not killed, but was set free and let loose.
>>
>>36640074

Interesting take. What I was thinking with TRON goes back to TRON: Legacy--Clu's entire reason for bringing Sam into the Grid was to open the portal to the real world and conquer it. So my way of thinking says that there are places in the world where the digital world is just bleeding through. There are cities that are being steadily consumed and turned into hyperpacked, ultrasleek landscapes, Tron lines and all. Like, take Manhattan and cut it down the middle--everything from Midtown up to Harlem and keep that the same, everything down to Battery Park would be turned into The Grid. The transition at the border would be instantaneous and jarring. You'd have people in normal clothing on one side and programs walking around in skintight suits on the other.

No clue what an Identity Disc would do to a flesh and blood person, though. Of course, that's not even taking into account what the police force would be like. With Syndrome's super enhancements, we'd have a Crackdown-style police force, armed with super-strength and energy projection and flight to combat other metahumans, aliens, and programs.
>>
>>36640524
>No clue what an Identity Disc would do to a flesh and blood person, though.
Doesn't Sam get grazed by one in Legacy? It's basically a flying cutter wheel.
>>
>>36640357
That's just spooky anon
>>
>>36640894

That was the idea. As things get more modern in this new DVV expansion, it opens up different storytelling possibilities and influences like urban legends, as other Anons have said.

>>36640454

This is essentially the idea as I remember it. Like a good-aligned version of the Slender Man mythos, stories about Vanellope continue to circulate around the Grid and the mundane Internet, sparking belief in young people in an entity they know only as "the Glitch."

Should we leave these for a far-future or space-themes expansion, aside from the modern expansion? Also, should we roll toons into this? If so, we have the makings of three new Dreamlands:

>The Grid/Gamespace (TRON and Wreck-it Ralph)
>The World of Monsters (Monsters INC.)
>Toon Town (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, etc.)
>>
>>36641718
The idea is that toons should be their own expansion.

>>
>>36645211
yes this stuff is brilliant! I hope Nob #1 thinks this is a good idea though?
>>
>>36645385

I would expect that, thematically, we would want to encourage this type of collaborative play as Teamwork and Friendship are big parts of a lot of Disney movies. It's just working out the crunch to make it all fit mechanically that might take a little work. Stuff like throwing fairies around or everyone working together to pull off some sort of scam should definitely be a thing though.
>>
>>36645585
Maybe if the two players involved can justify the mashup of skills, they can be allowed to pool their talent scores to achieve greater results working together than they could alone. Taking >>36644679 and >>36644832's examples, say an Atlantean Charismatic Guy, a Gorilla Strong Guy and the Pixie Nimble Gal were fighting an enemy who's powers were derived from some sort of magical artifact they were holding. Theoretically, the players might be able to combine their Deception, Athletics and Acrobatics checks if they came up with a plan in which the Atlantean distracted their enemy while the Gorilla threw the Pixie, who then snatched the magical artifact out of their enemy's hand.

well we are doing a non-Disney Expansion eventually(to cover stuff by Don Bluth, Dreamworks, and other non-Disney animation companies), also for the modern expansion people seem to be forgetting about some of the Disney TV shows that'd be ripe for usage, heck Gargoyles alone is probably a couple chapters of useful material(Xanatos is probably a major player in Atlantean corporate politics for one thing), not to mention some of the other shows Disney has
>>
>>36647477
>Implying we'll be done with the 7-8 expansions already planned anytime soon.
>>
>>36647595
Question: will the modern-day expansion exist as a stand alone setting, or will it build upon the preexisting one?
>>
>>36647885
I say have it be part of the already existing one, shouldn't be hard to shove most of them in, especially since most of the modern ones are set in the US and there's plenty of room to shove them in there(and since Space-Time is already borked up in the core setting, it'll be easy to justify)
>>
>>36647885
>>36647985
do note that some of them will be quite difficult to shove in and still keep the 'balance of power' intact. For example, the Pan-Asian Cooperative from Big Hero 6.

Question-asker here. Speaking for myself, my own inclination would be to create the DVV world afresh for the new expansion.

We've done a fair bit of work already in balancing the core world and including as many different Kings and Lands as we could, and I think that it might possibly be more difficult to work so many new ones than some may think. We've also set these modern titles aside until now because they were very different in terms of tech level and theme than the ones chosen for the core game. I think that these high-tech lands and more modern themes may be best explored if they're allowed to have their own setting to spread out in, rather than having to contend with the preestablished Kings and their Lands.
>>

Oh, Vanellope's still a legendary glitch, but all evidence of her existence has been scrubbed from every copy of Sugar Rush. Heres a Idea: AUTO is unable to stop the return the earth, but does defeat the Captain. During the warp to earth, Chernobog works his powers so that he enters the VV timeline. Once he warps to earth, he declares the landing site as a safe zone for robots, and becomes a Robo-Andrew Ryan. Here, he attracts some of the more disenfranchised robots such as The brave little Toaster(Now a giant deathray machine), the fireball cast(Pic related) Dorris from meet the Robinsons and maybe the Iron Giant.

They are incredibly Xenophobic, and have lopped off almost access to the grid and rarely travel into the surrounding area, in fear of death, or worse, corruption

I would imagine that the normal citizenry wouldn't know about digital space like The Grid existing. But the police force, supers, and the tech-savvy criminal element? They would totally know about it.

A party build that comes to mind would consist of a Program--maybe an ISO if you want to pull off special cyberspace shit--, one or two supers (for a testbed on statting--whenever down the road that'll be--basically take one or two folks from that massive pantheon /co/ has generated, though /co/lette and Jetpack Viking come to mind explicitly), and a Monster straight from the scare floor of Monsters, Inc.

The superhero part is probably gonna need the most work to not come off as something generic, so I was thinking superpowers would have to be strictly tech-based. Gauntlets, greaves, helmets, exo-suits--all are permitted. Super-strength? No problem. Energy blasts or manipulation? Totally doable. Flight by way of jetpack? Totally doable. But natural heroes--ones with organic superpowers born from mutation or lab accidents--would be extremely rare, but obscenely powerful.
>>
>>36655572
If Syndrome wins, there will probably be will be little to no natural born supers left.

Christopher Robin's entry on 1d4chan makes me think that a Hundred Acre Wood adventure could potentially get pretty mindfucky. Christopher Robin is no longer an ordinary child - a swathe of England untouchable by the Horned King has become the physical manifestation of his imagination, and he himself remains forever young. What happened to Christopher that trapped him within an eternal childhood summer?

I'll try my hand at writing something.
>>
>>36659117
I'm not sure if we'll have even a worldmap for the future. Pretty much all Disney flicks after the 1960s take place in space, the United States, or an ambiguous/fantastic location. Just for a quick rundown of what I can remember:

Oliver and Company: New York.
Tron/Tron Legacy: US/cyberspace.
Toy Story 1-3: US suburbia, and few of the villains stand any chance at world domination.
A Bug's Life: Could be anywhere.
Monster's Inc/University: The world of monsters.
Lilo and Stitch: Hawaii/space.
Treasure Planet: Space.
Finding Nemo: Australia, sure, but who's gonna be the villain here, a friggin' anglerfish? Seagulls? A child with braces?
Chicken Little: Suburbia, only everyone is animals, which is kinda incompatible with everything else. Also, it's Chicken Little, I say we toss it in the same drawer as keyblades and Angelina Jolie's Maleficent.
The Incredibles: The Bay Area and an unidentified island.
Cars/Cars 2/Planes/Planes 2/Cars 3: Primarily the US again, also kind of incompatible with anything.
Meet the Robinsons: Suburban US/the future.
Ratatouille: Paris, but the only villains are a dick-ass chef and a food critic.
Bolt: Roadtrip across the US. The villain is a fictional character.
Wall-E: Space and an unidentified city.
Up: The US and parts of South America.
Bash-It Bill: The US/cyberspace.
Big Hero 6: San Fransokyo.

Basically, there are fewer movies that take place in a clearly-designated Earthly location outside the US than movies that take place inside a computer.

Latest draft of Tzekel-kan's powers; he now has a power that lets him regain willpoints from killing his own allies. If no one objects, it'll go up on the wiki and we can scratch another king off the list.

---Powers---
Blood For The Blood God: Regain one strike every time blood of a sacrificial victim is drawn at most 50 meters away. On his own turn, regain two strikes for every sacrifice within 50 meters who has being bleeding for a full round.....of course, the sacrifice must be conducted with the proper rituals, and only 2 sacrifices can fit on the altar at any time.
Reign in Blood: Strikes regained from BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! may take Tzekel-kan above his normal maximum strikes. Additionally, for every 5 strikes regained by these powers, increase Robustness by 1 for the rest of the scene.
Needs More....Soul: Make a melee attack against a mook or lackey that adds Occult as a bonus. If the mook or lackey dies, regain a will point.
Animate: Spend a Will Point. Tzekel-Kan draws his own blood (loses one Strike), and animates a Stone Jaguar to fight at his side. Cannot be used more than three times in the same scene. (In-unvierse justification is that he's losing too much blood)
Blood Magic: Spend a Will Point, and burn one Strike. Tzekel Kan's next three attacks also use his Occult+Intelligence, with a +3 bonus for every Strike that Tzekel-Kan has lost.

COMPLETELY OPTIONAL BIZARRE ADVENTURE MODE
Awaken My Masters!: Once he has regained at least 20 strikes from BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!, Tzekel-kan may spend two willpoints to cause a solar eclipse and awaken THE AZTEC GODS OF FITNESS from their slumber within a great mural. As long as at least one of THE AZTEC GODS OF FITNESS is awake and alive, Tzekel-kan's gains from his other powers are doubled

Buy n' Large, originally based out of Chicago, grew and grew and grew to become the giant warehouse retailer and political entity we know from the movie Wall-E, eventually taking over and the entirety of the region, and then the country, and then the world, turning it all into a giant polluted scrapheap.

When the DVV mashup occurs, Buy n' Large's original holdings in the Great Lakes - Midwest area were brought along with the Axiom and several other ships perhaps, and Auto was forced to land the ship in Detroit as it was the only available Buy n' Large disembarkation site and manufacturing facility available to him.

This area, now known as the Heartland Wasteland, is a sprawling junkyard, patrolled by Auto's security drones and defense forces as he continues to keep his human cargo safe aboard the Axiom, free from all worries or cares or responsibilities. Meanwhile, EVE has managed to escape along with her cavalcade of malfunctioning robots, establishing a base of sorts in the old Bn'L headquarters building in Chicago, attempting to fulfill her original directive of rehabilitating the city.

Charles Muntz is in the core setting as one of the elite hunters; as far as I can tell, our justification is that his victory wasn't just bagging the Snipe, it was bagging the Snipe while he was still a young man, and thus he counts as a pre-WWII villain.
>>
>>36660577

Agreed. Muntz works better in the core, Pre-WWII era DVV world, though I think he was left out of the Kings List on the Wiki entry by accident.
>>

With regards to the Grid and other Lands, Buy n' Large's technology is hundreds of years more advanced than their neighbors', their computing network is stand-alone and their operating systems are encrypted out the wazoo, rendering them a citadel of proprietary information technology wholly seperate from the Grid.

However, this also makes Buy n' Large tech very interesting to scavengers and big companies, who try to pick through the Heartland Wasteland for older abandoned technology while trying to avoid Auto's detection.

Also: I hate this new Captcha system.

It's cause Disney does folklore and legends. Guess who doesn't have very many before the 1920s?
>>
>>36661303
Every place inhabited by man has some folklore and legends. It's just a popularity contest.
>>
>>36661320
European folklore from medieval to napoleonic times has been their most successful and interesting of any region by far though with few exceptions.
>>
It does seem like a modern expansion of DVV will be focused by necessity on North America.
>>
>>36661360
European folklore from medieval to napoleonic times has also been the majority of what they do, and what they have the most experience and familiarity with. I think we can agree that it's not because the folklore itself is inherently better.
>>
Before this gegenerates into yet another Yuropoor vs. 'Murrifat shitstorm, what are we gonna do with the other continents? More advanced versions of the current DVV forces? Split between the new powers? Ignored?
>>
>>36661501
I think for the most part the world can remain similar.
Hades for example could still be a force, Atlantis fits in easy, loin king can still be there.
Perhaps santa anna can get immortal along with grimhilde?
>>
>>36661501

Personally speaking, I'm still in favor of making the Modern DVV expansion a stand-alone setting that focuses on North America and the modern-age films exclusively, perhaps even going so far as to replace Cherry Bomb with a more thematically appropriate BBEG.
>>
>>36661449
Don't be arguing that socialist bullcrap that all cultures are equal and virtue is another name for vice now. Europe's tales from Beowulf's dragons to a million variations of legends with unique morals and creatures from Scotland's banshees and night creatures to France's fey, Sweden's elves, the thousands of legends from Greece all the way to modernist German tales of great magical tyrants and secret societies is more interesting and better than 4000 years yielding 20 variations of 'why nature is good and balanced as told by animals' Africa has made. There is a reason only one Disney movie is from that shithole.
>>
>>36661603
I think he was talking about America, but I agree with your point if he wasn't.
>>
>>36661603
You know that with very few exceptions, basically every fairy tale ever across the globe breaks down into "do what your parents tell you" and basically every tale of a heroic journey is....well, the Hero's Journey, right? The real differences in folklore and legends across cultures is which themes and motifs appear consistently.

It would have been interesting to see what the Africans could have come up with if they had ever advanced their civilizations far enough to develop proper literature.

Because it's honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, especially from someone who claims to know anything about folklore. It's just so blatantly fucking wrong.

Quick, name five European tales where a child (NOT a disillusioned wife, NOT a quester, NOT a lover) gets into trouble because they do not listen to their parents (NOT because they followed orders, NOT because the devil tricked them, NOT because their friends pushed them to it)
It's a theme in a COUPLE of stories, nothing more.
>>
>>36662000
The first issue is finding a piece of european folklore that you won't reject because 'm-muh too recent'. The second issue is that a lot of these stories just don't have names.
Anything about Baba Yaga, the Prodigal Son, Shockheaded Peter(which is actually ten stories, but hey, I'll count it as one for you), Hebrews in the Bible, which I'm sure a lot of people argue is european, any number of numerous early 20th century serial killer stories, and let's finish off with two 'maybes': alice in wonderland and little red riding hood.

this would probably be quicker if I knew almost anything about european folklore. More of a Classical history kind of guy, and those stories are fucking numerous in roman mythology
>>

Noice job m8 but the fact that that took you 30 minutes and it's all obscure Italian tales makes me believe you had to look it up to get that. If not then good job I suppose. Point is that it's not a constant motif, and that still stands.

How about the pile of Roman stories which focus on exactly this? Off the top of my head, I can think of three different Roman stories which can be summed up to 'boy gets eaten by wolf because he doesn't listen to dad', 'young man wanders off path and gets eaten by wolf because he doesn't listen to dad', and 'boy is eaten by werewolf because he doesn't listen to dad'.

They may not be that well known outside, but one is a staple of italian literature and the main inspiration for the Canterbury Tales, concerning the other there are maybe 50 kindergarten in the entire peninsula who doesn't know it and it has local almost identical versions in almost every country in europe.
>>
>>36662324
It was kind of a thing. If you want, I can add in some stories where people are killed by savage barbarians because they didn't listen to their parents. Of course, the problem that is going to be drawn with most of these is A: They aren't published, because a four-paragraph cautionary tale doesn't deserve a book, and B; Most of them are pretty much only in latin since nobody can be arsed to translate five thousand stories that are pretty much the same but for minor details like who is doing what where.

Going waaaaay back. Just saying, chaotic stupid and stupid good are pretty damn perfect for Disney. I don't get why people think either are bad- like fuck, Jesus and Ghandi were stupid goods by any definition. Yeah, I really don't see how either the character or the player is or would be screwing over the other players, though. The character is an idiot, but hardly suicidal. I don't forsee him going 'LOL FUCK YOUR PLANS' in or out of character and just attacking the regional King or something.

The issue is the balance between Disney and playing a role-playing game. Those CG characters are interesting to watch, but we all know that they would be a pain to be around and have to work together with (and that is part of what makes them the characters that they are). From a role-playing standpoint, if you having fun and role-playing your character hurts everyone else's ability to have fun, then you're That Guy, even though you were just rollplaying well. Jesus and Ghandi were both Stupid Goods, but you wouldn't want to have them in your party. We have a problem that the movies never did, in that we have to deal with both a practical aspect of interaction with other players being bound by a social contract, like the anon in >>36663240 said, and maintaining the integrity of the setting. I got pissed a couple of nights ago and overreacted due to some RL shit going on, and I'm sorry for that, but it is a point that we should try to deal with somehow.
>>
>>36664723
Not that guy but he's pretty right about Europe and Asia in comparison to Africa. The point is not that Jesus and Ghandi are boring characters. They are incredibly interesting ones. The point that I made is that they would not work well with others who want to do things any way but theirs. Imagine if you had a healer in your party who walked in front of enemies with no armor or weapons and effectively placed his life in their hands, and you had been preparing for the fight for the whole campaign. One of two things happen:
1. He convinces them, and averts the fight completely. He just single-handedly saved the day, which is good for him, but leaves everyone else feeling pretty useless, seeing as they were preparing for this for a whole campaign.
2. He just gets himself killed, and you lose a party member.
While he did something very interesting based on the concept of nonviolence, he wasn't necessarily a great group member in terms of playing a game with other people.

tl;dr All I said was that Jesus and Ghandi wouldn't be necessarily great members of a party in a TTRPG.

Don't shitpost, please.

Even ignoring Egypt, which was definitely an African kingdom that predates European civilization, there were the Mali Empire (which had so much gold it accidentally destroyed some Italian economies), the Swahili city states, the Empire of Kitara, the Kingdom of Axum and a few dozen or so other kingdoms that dotted the continent. Ironworking, goldsmithing, complex agriculture, and high quality stonework had been developed by various cultures for quite a long time.

However,
>Pureblooded Africans
That's not a thing. That has never been a thing. Africa is far from a homogenous entity. It's a massive continent and the cradle of humanity. Sub-Saharan Africa still has more genetic diversity than the rest of the world combined (as is typically expected of the place of origin of a species). There's no such thing as "pureblooded Africans" at all. Kazakhstan is just as Asian as China, just as Egypt is just as African as Uganda.

Let's go down that list to break down your useless major. Also, every historian worth their salt agrees that Egypt is a middle eastern civilization, not a fucking black one.
>Mali Empire
You mean the one founded by North African refugees and Roman emigrants, was ruled by them except for a handful of black rulers and had their entire nation run by them? That one? Yeah, ok.
>Swahili city states
Legitimately barely a footnote in history. Using traded and stolen Asian and white technology they traded a bit. That's fucking it.
>Kitara
Literally a fucking legend told by blacks to pump up themselves. No records of it exist.
>Axum
FUCKING COPTIC YOU CUNT.

Calling Africa the cradle of humanity is an absolute joke. They're savages and always have been, and the ones that didn't move to China or Europe stayed savages forever. They have no genetic diversity because they never evolved, like the entire rest of the world from America to Indonesia did. Suggesting they developed ironworking, goldsmithing, or anything past three-wheel systems is blatant lies spouted on noexistant evidence. Fuck off and take your neohistory with you.

First, not the guy you were responding to.

Egypt developed at around the same time as China, without help from the Middle East or Europe. They had brown skin, and they had a greater effect on the surrounding peoples than any group had on them for several thousand years.

Civilizations in Ethiopia and the Swahili city-states were instrumental pieces in the Indian Ocean trade routes.

Kingdoms in central Africa excelled at stone- and metal-working.

Mali built a nice little empire out of gold exports.

And personally, I'm not surprised that a Chinese guy is stupidly racist. I've known enough Asians not to be surprised by stupid amounts of racism from some of them.

>>36665566
I don't know, I just copy/pasted it from the last thread. I didn't think that there was anything new to add to the copypasta, but I could be wrong.

>>36665580
Never reloading is a win. He'll pretty much have a magical infinite blunderbuss to fight with. I'd probably give him a flat bonus to Endure against social strikes and then make it so that he took a penalty for every physical skill that has hurt him in the past two turns. (i.e. he could have a penalty for Melee, a penalty for Brawl, and a penalty for Ranged, all at once.
Alternatively, I could just give him Echo Chamber (the trait I made for Frollo that buffs him against social strikes as long as he has a harem) to affect the ladies around him, so you have to scare them off first. That might be simpler.

To be truthful, you were both letting your That Guys out that night, and between the two of you Sverd was the more tolerable. I'll take a wildcard over a control freak any day of the week.

Also, Frollo's not on 1d4chan.
>>
>>36666079
I was. I was being a dick that night, and I'm sorry for it. I'll try not to let it happen again. I was planning on playing a slightly more subdued charming guy for a change, as my previous characters weren't very subtle. and being able to do some of the party-face type stuff that is a Charming Guy's job, and then when Sverd started jumping out and doing his crazy Nimble Guy shit, jumping around on tables and yelling, I got pissed because I felt useless because he was playing the Charming Guy and the Nimble Guy at the same time, and I got shitty. I'm sorry about that, and I won't let it happen again.
>>
>>36666207
You really shouldn't get mad at a character acting in-character. Jumping up and yelling about himself isn't trying to butt into your territory because it's not something your character would do. Considering you both fight on essentially a same level and you have much better music and intimidate, and persuasion half the time, Nick just is really good at vanishing and lying and shit and talking to women. Since you aren't playing a conventionally 'charming' character, the party would really be pretty shit without at least one guy with initiative. I imagine the session would have been boring as fuck if Nick wasn't going around being charming and whatnot. Your role should be to intimidate and buff, because you've designed much more of a backup character than a party face. To be honest your character would probably work a lot better as a Robust guy with points in deceit and intimidate, your character as a party face really doesn't make sense.
>>
>>36666079
1d4chan has been down for me for like the last day, I haven't been able to update anything.
>>
>>36666575
Yeah, this. I have no idea what you were planning to do by winning at pool and then losing at poker, but to me it just looked like you were dicking about.
>>
>>36666575
I know I shouldn't have. I was stressed from some real-life shit that I should have done but don't.
Also, how is Nick better at being a party face than Nanuk? Nanuk has 3 more Charm and an effective 2 more deceit and 1 more persuasion so long as he maintains his human disguise. Even against a girl, Nick still can only just match Nanuk's bonuses to Persuade, which is his best skill. And that disregards the fact that Nanuk will roll better on Charm because he rolls 4d6k3.

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen someone be able to use the unnaturally beautiful trait. I've taken it, but there aren't really many women in the game. Maybe I should have played a girl...
>>
>>36666898
You're in the wild west. You should expect that most of the people you're going to run in to will be men. that'll change when you head to other regions.

>>36666839
I think he was trying to start a fight in the same way. Nick did sort of jump to start a fight and then to restart it, admittedly.

I was hoping to get them talking over the card game and then take all their money. It was not well thought-out.
>>
>>36666898
Nick's better at playing a party face fluff-wise. It honestly seems to me like you made a strong guy, slapped some points into charm and music with a very flimsy reason (He was a trickster at home?) and called it a day. Nick is much more set up to act as the comic relief thief character instead of the party face, but as far as the rest of the party goes, he's the most set up for it. Your character as a party face makes zero sense. He's a giant bear in armor? He's amazingly persuasive and can play music wonderfully because he used to be a 'trickster' at home? What does that even mean?

Honestly man, your character just doesn't make much sense. The way you roleplay him makes him much, much more of a strong guy or backup character instead of a party face. Nick isn't a great one as far as characters go (Although I think Sverd plays him quite well), but you are just a nonsensical face.

Gonna have to agree with this guy in that nanuk tanuk dinduk or whatever his name is really doesn't fit the 'party face' role at all (fluff-wise and roleplay-wise) while nick is pretty good at it. You guys would really want some kind of goldenhearted singer for an actual party face - Hannah springs to mind about this but you'd probably want it to be a male because i doubt that having an attractive female in the party around nick would end out well, even with a stronk native american girl to stop him from being a total douche.

Feel free to set up your own campaign, play in it, and do whatever your heart desires. Nanuk's fluff was really rushed, but please don't try to reconfigure the party after reading through a half-session because you decided that you know best. While I am open to anything up to and including re-rolling my character in the campaign if things aren't working, that isn't up to the thread as a whole, it's up to me, the other players in the campaign, and Nob, the GM of the campaign, not any and all anons on the thread who think that their party makeup would be better.

I'd gladly reroll at this point, as I have no love left for the character (it went in a really dumb direction unintentionally), if it would fit the story. That being said, I only ever made him because I made a joke race variant and wanted to try it out. I have to go now, but fine. I'll scrap him and make a new sheet when I get home and he can just go wander off to the desert or something and I can make a good charming guy if Nob lets me reroll.

Not to really reignite this argument, and this is way back, but I thought the reason Africans never really developed like other civilizations, such as Europe, is because they really have shit resources and land.
I mean Africa is what? 60-70% desert, which have pretty much nothing except rocks, sand, grass, and soft wood. Plus little rain for no agriculture. Then there's also the jungles, which are arguably more useful, but filled with so many things to fuck you up, along with just a shitton of trees and mud, and litte metal resources, like iron or bronze except gold, which is soft as shit, so they don't really have anything to cut the useful trees with.
Finally, the more livable places, like the coasts, were the hotspots for slave trade. (I think)

Of course I could be really, really, wrong about all of this and making myself look like a retard.

>The civilizations that did develop, especially in west and south Africa did not have the benefit of a connected network of civilizations Like north and east Africa (also apparently Coptic is not African anymore. How the hell do you justify that?)
>Environmental pressures of rain forests encourage small hunter/gatherer and subsistence farming populations, especially if there is limited contact with other peoples (also see: amazon rain forest, papa new guinea).

Also it should be noted that voodoo is heavily derived from west african paganism. It also just so happens to be a major thematic source for one of the largest factions on America in DVV

The power was how many items he could pull out of his ass. As in, he had 15+5X (X=Players) worth of Equipment at all times. If he had a +4 RPG and used it up in one scene, he could pull out another at a later date from the same EQ pool without running out. If he were to somehow lose all of his EQ, he would be at a severe disadvantage in combat.
