You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After landing the Wyvern in the outskirts of Cateno, Arnaud raced off ahead of you to take care of things. While he focuses on the Leviathans, you're supposed to try and get any stragglers back to where it's safe.

You do intend to go back and get in on the fighting once that's taken care of, of course.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

Racing along at a magically magnified speed, you zoom across what passes for the "city limits" of Cateno. These run-down buildings were something that you'd never wanted to see again for as long as you lived, but here you are again. And it's not even to burn the entire place down like you'd occasionally fantasize about at your lowest points, but instead you're actually here to HELP the town.

Funny how that works out.

Most of the buildings that you pass by have boarded-up windows, as if a couple of pieces of repurposed crate wood would be of any use in deterring monsters capable of destroying entire ships. The streets are completely empty as well, not even the usual beggars are outside for fear of being eaten.

It isn't until the boardwalk is in view in the distance that you hear anything aside from the dull rumble of what you assume is the Leviathans' call... but now you can most definitely hear the panicked screams of the people who were unfortunate enough to not have already escaped.

If we encounter Spinelle I vote that we use boost and run away. Double or triple cast if necessary to avoid the ptsd.

I think playing it safe, pretending not to recognize her, and then eventually backhanding the lady if she gets onto us might work best. Our wounds would heal this way.

>>36655445
Still, I think that not killing her is for the best.

we can leave that to luciana

Luckily, with the way that Tailwind works, it's no real challenge to prepare the casting of another spell while it's active. And just in case, you do that exact thing. As you maneuver around the debris that litters the street, you begin to chant.

"Raising my sword before the coming shade, its glint is the final glimmer of light before..."

The Script that consists of the spell trails behind you as you run, almost reminding you of the lightning that followed after Arnaud as he ran ahead of you and for a second, you feel a bit of regret that you can't really appreciate the sight. But that's not really what's important now, is it.

The panicked screams grow clearer as you run, and you find yourself working against your better judgement when you make the decision to run TOWARDS the shouts instead of away from them...

I don't think all this screaming has anything to do with Leviathans, it's just Cateno's regar ambience of people being mugged, raped, murdered and sold into sex slavery.

A blue blur darts in the cover of your peripheral vision. A splitsecond later, you hear a loud crash.

"PLEASE GOD NO!!!" a shrill voice screams out as you turn the corner.

Just in time for you to see the upper floor of a building crashing down towards a young girl...

...and to your right, you see the monster who presumably caused this destruction watching intently, as if it's enjoying the sight of its own handiwork.

I... I can't. From a narrative perspective it's just too boring and unsatisfying. It also assumes that Reinhold will be in a position where he's able to ignore Spinelle. Saving lives over getting revenge. Both are important, but the former definitely takes precedence. And so, you ignore the monster to your right and instead run straight ahead.

"TWILIGHT'S WAKE!"

Not stopping for anything, you swing your sword as hard as you can towards the falling rubble while you run directly for the spot where it's about to fall. Though your blade itself doesn't reach the target, a wave of light follows the path of your sword and fires directly for it.

You keep running for about two blocks before you finally duck around a corner and let your passenger go, gently placing her into the ground.

"Th... thank you so much, you saved my life..." the girl says, holding her hands over her mouth. "Those things already killed all the soldiers that came here, and I thought for sure that I was gonna die..." she starts sobbing.

While you'd like to pat the girl on her shoulder and tell her that everything will be okay now, you don't really have the time to be consoling anyone right now.

"I need you to run as fast as you can as far away from here as you can," you say to her, pointing away from the river.
"Y... you're not gonna come with me?" she asks, a look of betrayal on her dirt-stained face.
"I need ot double back and kill that thing before it decides to follow us," you say, glancing back towards the boardwalk.

You take a quick glance down the road, and then turn your back to the girl.

"Y... you can't mean that!" she shouts. "PLEASE don't leave me out here to die!"

You really don't have time for this. Not willing to try and explain yourself or this hysteric girl, you instead sprint to the nearest boarded-up door and kick it as hard as you can.

"Y... you promise?" she asks, wide-eyed.

From inside the building, you see a horrified-looking woman staring out through the doorway at you.

"Wh... what have you done!?" she shrieks. "Now what am I supposed to do-"

Tired of dealing with all of this, you grab the girl by her forearm and gently push her inside the house, then pull out a silver piece from your pocket and shove it in the woman's hand.

"This should more than cover the repair cost, now I -really- need to go and take care of that monster!" you shout.

You don't wait for a response, instead running back out into the street and drawing your sword. You can hear more buildings being destroyed and now you're especially determined not to let that Leviathan make its way back here...

Dead Line Fault
Cost: 3MP (base: 4MP]
Element: Earth
Incantation:
Effect: When an attack deals damage to a target, the wound caused from said attack expands along a line extending from the site of impact. This spell is most effective on hard targets such as armor, and loses potency when used directly on flesh.

Twilight's Wake
Cost: 4MP
Element: Light
Incantation: "Raising my sword before the coming shade, its glint is the final glimmer of light before twilight's wake."
Effect: When a sword is swung, a blade of light trails behind it. This blade can be "thrown" at a target, racing towards it at an extremely high speed and piercing into it.

>>
>>36657836
Yup.
It works on any hard surface.
>>
>>36657745

Height advantage is against us.

Get on top of a building and traverse them in order to more effectively reach the head.

Aim for weak spots, eyes primary target here. See if you can't double back around it. Use tailwind to shove yourself as hard as you can into the back of the monsters head using a sword thrust. If the sword thrust doesn't kill it combined with the force of tailwind, then the force of a 165+ pound man going at breakneck speeds should force its head toward the ground.

From there, plant yourself and get stab happy.

Getting punched in the back of the head is no joke, especially at mach 2 with a sword.
>>
>>36657745
Use Tailwind, and find something like a ramp, and launch ourself at the Leviathan. Turn on Metal Body for extra mass, when we crash into the Leviathan chopping the fuck out of it use Dead Line Fault.

Feel free to use Fragment Blader to make an absolutely fuckhuge sword if our normal one doesn't seem like enough.

>>
>>36657885
Yes we do, Sylvie taught us a while ago. We picked it up so that we'd always be able to have a sword available, and to make throwing swords.

>>36657850
What exactly counts as "swinging" for Twilight's Wake?

Does Reinhold swinging his sword while running mean there'll be more laser? Can he make it longer by extending his sword, or making stupidly long Fragment Blader swords? If he gives his sword multiple edges can he shoot off lots of smaller lasers?

Okay.

First order of business is to get this Leviathan away from the buildings so it can't destroy anything else. Then you can kill it and get on to finding more stragglers or maybe helping Arnaud out with-

Your concentration is broken by the deafening sound of thunder coming from the pier. That must be him now... might as well start pulling your weight now.

You tighten your grip on your sword as you race towards the boardwalk where you left the Leviathan that you'd spotted before. No Tailwind this time, just in case you happen to need the magical energy that it would expend later. Just your normal sprinting speed.

The sea serpent comes into view just in time for you to witness it about to smash a house into bits with its tail.

"Raising my sword before the coming shade," you chant, holding your blade at the ready, "its glint is the final glimmer of light before twilight's wake!"

>[1/?]

>>36657978

Curl up into a ball, with sword pointing out.

He will try to spin in such a way that the sword will spin like a drill, increasing impact and penetrative power with coiled mass behind it.

We'll dub it the spinelle spin, cause something's gonna get fucked.

Time for new battle rules!

Basically, it's a rock-paper-scissors thing. There are three types of attacks:

>Strike
>Strikes are fast, precision based attacks. Any attack which seems like it may rely on overwhelming speed or pinpoint accuracy is likely a Strike. As a general rule of thumb, most mundane small arms fire is considered a Strike. Strikes defeat Crashes, but are defeated by Guards.

>Crash
>A Crash is a highly telegraphed, but extremely powerful blow. Any attack which seems to rely mostly on the brute strength or overwhelming force is likely a Crash. As a general rule of thumb, most thrown objects, like trees or boulders, are considered Crashes. Crashes defeat Guards, but are defeated by Strikes.

>Guard
>A Guard is a defensive posture or evasive stance which is used to set up a counter-blow. Any attack which appears as if it could be a feint, focuses on counterattacks, or which seems to be a stalling tactic is likely to be a Guard. Guards defeat Strikes, but are defeated by Crashes.

Every time you get a hit in, you gain a point of Advantage. The first to get three points, be it you or the opponent, is the winner.
>>
>>36658513

There are also special attacks that the enemies may have, which will affect the type of attacks that they (or you) use. Stay alert and try to read into what they're trying to do!

And it's always fine to give specific suggestions as to what to do along with your vote. I'm trying to make this more interactive as opposed to relying on /tg/'s shitty RNG.

Too bad you have to get in close to use it.

Ignoring the Leviathan's attempt to intimidate you by roaring at you, you chant the incantation for Tailwind as you race towards the beast with your sword drawn. Its yellow eyes following you as you approach, the beast lifts its head into the sky and bares its teeth.

How are we supposed to recognize a guard from a creature with no arms or legs?
>>
Rolled 1 (1d20)

>>36658651
Reading comprehension. It was a passive actor in the entire passage, down from adverb to adjective. It was waiting for us to do something, teeth bared and body waiting to strike..
>>
>>36658651
I imagine it goes:
>Crashes=beasty is angry and comes rushing
>Guards=beasty is careful and wait for an opportunity
>Strikes=beasty is ready to lash its tail
>>
>>36658651
It coils and guards with its body or backs away to get better position to retaliate from a strike, usually still leaving a coil to tempt a strike.
>>
>>36658666
>teeth bared and body waiting to strike.
sounds like it's telegraphing a crash to me.
>>
Rolled 4 (1d20)

>>36658678
Here's the difference. When it's a crash, the QM always rights the passage with the opponent focusing on itself, scenery damage, etc. When it's a guard, the QM will write the opponent as focusing on you.
>>
>>36658691
I was busy so I couldn't vote but I'm surprised that everyone went for Strike. What gives?
>>
>>36658717

Head reared up, teeth bared, sounds like he's winding up an attack.
>>
>>36658691
You are reading far too much into this.
>>
Rolled 17 (1d20)

>>36658734
>>36658723
Like I said, Crashes always are written as already in motion. The opponent will have caused some scenery damage and you'll be able to see the potential power of the attack if it hits. When they're no momentum, and the attack is predicated on our reaction with the opponent written as a passive character, then it's a guard.
>>
>>36658753

"My path is undeterred, forever moving forward," you chant as you draw back you sword as high as you can. "No matter how massive it may be, any obstacle that may stand before me is naught but glass in the face of my unyielding might!"

Willing your sword's point as sharp as you can manage, you stab down on the monster's neck as hard as you can. As it connects, you invoke the spell that you just prepared.

"Dead Line Fault!"

Though your attack hits true, but the Leviathan's tough scales deflect it better than any armor that you've come across. You mutter a curse under your breath as you hastily back out of its striking range.

You return your sword back to its original shape as you stare down the sea serpent. It starts to draw back for another lunge, but then... it starts twitching?

The cry it lets out sounds more confused than angry as blood starts to drip out from where your sword was deflected.

drip

drip

CLUNK

Bit by bit, pieces of broken scales fall to the ground as the wound spreads. Though it's nothing more than a surface wound, the surface that was wounded served as its armor plating.

You flash a mad grin as you ready your sword for another attack.

If we're reshaping our weapon, we'd much prefer something resembling a horseman's pick; Dead Line Fault expanding a wound probably goes a long way in averting the usual disadvantageous scenario of getting the weapon stuck in the puncture, and it does a better job of getting into armor than a pure blunt instrument.

It's probably better to stick with the weapon we're familiar with rather than trying to swap to something with a different balance on the fly, though.

You've just opened a hole in the Leviathan's armored hide right in a vital area. Now all you have to do is get one more good hit in there and that'll be one less monster to worry about.

You really wish you knew how many more of these things were left, though... Arnaud's sure to have killed more than a few by now, but that in itself is an unspecified number out of an unspecified number of attacking Leviathans.

But... whatever. However many there are, you just need to kill that many.

A hate-filled roar fills your ears as your opponent pulls its head back. But instead of lunging towards you again, the beast flinches.

And you notice a rumbling sound coming from your left.

You just fall over yourself, trying to recreate how you imagine cliche rom-com scenes go from those movies you never saw because you never had enough female interaction to justify watching them, followed by awkwardly explicit sex scenes that severely undercut the cutesy tone of previous chapters and then it goes "Well done, you chose the Blue Duchess of Slime!" and then it ends. What was the point, Anon? Where's the outcome? What does it effect? Where are the children? When do we grow old and die together? What does it all mean?

Somehow, the tail seems to be MUCH faster than the head, and it's darting all over the place...

"Howling Winds, Gather be-" you're forced to cut your spellcasting short, as you find the Leviathan's tail zooming right for your face. As you roll out of the way, you realize that this really isn't the kind of situation that Tailwind would be useful in- this thing's tail attacks are too unpredictable and Tailwind's maneuvering is too imprecise to be anything other than a massive danger right now. Hell, it's taking all you have to keep from getting hit as it is.

"I shed this frail husk, biding my time so that I may be reborn within a rocky hide!" you chant. "Stone Body!"

You get the spell off just in time to take a tail whip directly to the chest. Though your MUCH heavier than before, the hit's still enough to send you flying through the air and smashing INTO a wall. And just as you managed to break free of the indentation that your metal body's made in said wall, the tailwhip comes right back for you, hitting you a second time in the chest and flinging you in the air.

And right for the Leviathan's mouth.

As a lifetime's worth of regrets races through your mind, the Leviathan chomps down onto your helpless body...

The Leviathan clearly doesn't find the situation anywhere near amusing though, as it lets out a long, rumbling howl before drawing its head back just as it did the first time. Not wanting to remain in the defensive any longer, you allow your body to shift back to its fleshy (but much, much lighter) state. This seems to be some kind of desperate trick on the part of the Leviathan, so you decide to end this as quickly as possible.

The sea serpent stares intently at you as you continue to chant your spell. But just before you're within striking distance of the head, you twirl around and release a wave of light at the tail that was darting towards you. With a loud crash, your magical assault beats back the attempted sneak attack.

But you're not done.

Spinning back towards your original target, you rotate your sword into a reverse grip and plunge it into the monster's neck with all your strength, sinking your entire blade into the bare patch that your first attack opened up.

the problem with that is, while the dick would literally be rock hard, it would still remain the same size it has whilst flaccid. Unless the schlong is naturally large, and the erection is simply the phallus standing up and hardening, the penis would be small, and less pleasurable for the woman than an actual erection.

Just use a pump before you go rock hard.
You're using pressure to force the blood into your penis.

Still won't solve that you won't get any sensation with the spell though, so magic can't solve everything.

The Leviathan's entire body coils in agony as it tries its damnedest to remove your sword from its body, but you hang on for dear life... and then you remember the special properties of your sword.

Focusing your entire will into your sword, you force the metal of the blade to spider out in all directions from within the monster's body, piercing any number of unseen organs in its neck and causing blood to spew from its cavernous maw. You prepare to disengage when you see the beast's tail slowly easing towards you, but then its entire body goes limp.

<dead>

Heeding... whatever that just was, you return your sword back to its original shape and pull it from the creature's neck, then produce a handkerchief with which to wipe the blood off. That was much more of a struggle than you were expecting, but now you're confident that you know what these things can do in a fight.

Well... why not? I remember a long time ago that we discussed the possiblity of Rein opening/sponsoring a orphanage. And potentially training new generations of swordies. She could be the first. Gotta start somewhere.
>>
>>36659761
I'm more worried about her age, tbh. She sounds too old to be our offspring, but...
>>
My one regret in Skyrim is that I can only adopt two children.
>>
>>36659782
She's not, but even if she were, that's even more incentive to save her.
>>
>>36659789
If any real effort was put into that shittyass game you'd have the ability to buy and run the orphanage that was already being run by a heartless cunt of a woman.
>>
>>36659747
>[2/2]

"Yeah I did," you say with a weary sigh, "but there's still more around here and it's WAY too dangerous for you to be out here with me!"
"You're gonna kill all of them?" she asks.
"That's the plan, but it's going to be a lot harder to do if I have to worry about YOU getting in the way," you growl.
"...you're way stronger than those soldiers were," the girl says, nodding to herself. "They got ate up when they tried to fight the monsters but you killed them just fine!"

You figured as much when you didn't see anyone else out here trying to fight...

"C'mon," you sigh. "I'm sure your parents are worried about you so you'd better et going."
"I don't have parents," she shakes her head. "And you're the only one who's worried about me so I'm gonna stick with you!"

>what do you say to this girl?
>>
>>36659797
Ask her where she lives.
>>
>>36659797
tell her to stay inside, then see if we can get her a job as a maid in training or something, I dunno.
>>
>>36659797
Bein' a dad/big bro is hard.

Looks like we're stuck adopting her, at least. Like fuck are we leaving her in this shithole to be raped and whored out. Or if not adopt, then we could get her a job working the kitchens at the castle?
>>
>>36659797
Bringing her along isn't really viable, is it?
Can we not just tell her to hide out by the Wyvern and we'll come back for her.
I'm all for rescuing the orphan girl but having her by our side when we're confronting danger head on isn't very responsible, there's no point saving her just to get her eaten 5 minutes later?
>>
>>36659797
It's super dangerous on the streets right now. If she has a home, offer to escort her there, since that way if we run into any more leviathens, we can protect her while slaughtering them.
>>
>>36659813
>Hiding by the lesser dragon rather similar to the things eating the town

great plan
>>
>>36659797
"I can be your parent."

Don't actually do this yet.
>>
>>36659797
If she doesn't have a home we could probably drop her off at the brothel but explain to the Boss that nothing can happen to her.
>>
>meanwhile at the lake
>"so how many orphans do you think he's gonna come back with?"
>"two, at least. wouldn't want to be outdone by his dad."
>"that's a conservative number."
>"the better question is on who is he gonna drop the responsibility of raising them."
>"I bet he'll think he'd be doing me and Melanie a favor by asking us that."
>>
>>36659797
Fuck it, guess we have a new imouto. No way we are leaving her in this hellhole. The safest thing for her is probably getting her to run out to where the wyvern is. If she is against that tell her that she can only tag along if she follows our instructions and run away and hide when we near another leviathan.
>>
>>36659813
Supporting this and make sure to tell her not to get to close to the wyvern and we will be back later
>>
>>36659831
The wyvern isn't gonna eat her and it's a safe enough distance to make sure the wyvern isn't spooked by the leviathans.
If you wanna get fussy, this universe's equivalent to oxen are just lesser versions of even more dangerous dragons.
>>
>>36659797
Ask her for her name, introduce ourself, maybe joke about how us orphans have to stick together.

Ask if there's anywhere reasonably safe for her to stay that she knows of.

If she doesn't know anywhere then take her to the brothel, we may have to threaten to chop someone's hand off but we can get her somewhere safe for the duration of this, and pick her up afterwards.

Make sure she knows to stay well back from us fighting and to keep her eyes open.
>>
>>36659831
then help think of something you asshole. So far, we have stay hidden, go to the wyvern, or watch her die when a leviathan eats her as our choices. either pick one or come up with something.
And since someone is invariably going to be retarded, yes, we're taking her with us, I simply left it unsaid, since that seems to be the only thing we agree on.
>>
>>36659838
Luci wants lots of kids so no problem.

And that's all for tonight's thread. Tonight's run was really fun, I hope the new battle thingamabob wasn't too boring for you guys.

The nexrt thread wiell be Tuesday night, and which quest I run is dependent on certain "extra materials" that I'm waiting on.

and now questions

Thanks for the thread, these last few have been among my favourites.

Question;
Are you a robot?
>>
>>36659872
Cheers.

How much of a pain was captcha?
How young does the girl look?

And how hyped is everyone here for ZOOM?
>>
>>36659872
People of the Western continent can use magic to enhance their body.

So did Sir Vincent figure out how to do that on his own, and that's why he has a fuck huge mana pool and can fight bears?

Can we open and fund a orphanage somewhere since we have more monies than we need?
>>
>>36659872
Was orphan girl planned or spontaneous?
Have any characters turned out significantly different to what you had imagined once they were actually in the quest(s)?

Thanks for running Arch, was a lot of fun.

Intriguing

Thanks arch the new battle thingy is a lot better than rolls so yay

How jealous is Nico gonna be that we got to kill stuff and she didn't.
>>
>>36659910
About as jealous as we'll be that she got fun picnic times and we didn't.
>>
>>36659910
She get's to do yuri stuff with meido, I think she's content.
>>

She'll be fine, doesn't mean I didn't wanna go beast fighting side by side with her though.
We'll get our adventure one day...
>>

I know Takamaru was originally supposed to be a lot more boring.

>>36659910
She can trade the gloryhounding if she agree to get the trauma and Celestino watching over while we get the not so clandestine hot /u/ action.
>>

Yeah but doing yuri stuff with meido isn't gonna get you knighted.

Not with that attitude.

I don't think it works like that.
Though the idea of Nico/Luci is good and it's what I was rooting for in the early days.
>>

>Joking aside, Lake interlude when? I want the walls of Citrine and Luciana's affection torn down by the scathing remarks of remaining cast. Karel especially.
I was thinking about doing it after this stuff in Cateno is taken care of, but maybe I'll give you guys the option of switching in before then. Haven't decided yet.

Reinhold doen't really have the knowhow to start an orphanage himself, though he could certainly donate omneys to one.

>>36659907
>Was orphan girl planned or spontaneous?
Completely spontaneous.
though she fits in perfectly with my plans now that I've given it ten minutes of thought

Luciana, Takamaru, Rana...

>Orphan Girl and Elena geek out over swords and swear to become heroines of justice together

>>36660030
Yes. Citrine is in fact a pure angel who materialised from the heavens to watch out for Reinhold and give her clients life advice.

And the worst Spinelle did was force Reinhold to play Scrabble with her for five horrible years.
>>
>>36660049
Force a kid with an inferior vocabulary to play Scrabble with you.

>AbsolutelyDisgusting.jpg

And I'm not sure Spinelle's vocabulary would be better than Lil Rein's.

Just saying, we should track down that woman's house and take back our money. Or break her wall.

The new battle system certainly made Reinhold feel more like the skilled combatant he's supposed to be than the klutz in most prior fights when the dice chose to be assholes.
>>
>>36660180
>Just saying, we should track down that woman's house and take back our money. Or break her wall.

Agreed. If for no other reason than to teach at least ONE citizen of Cateno that being a total fucking asshole has consequences.

I really liked that feeling

Cateno is one of these poor shitholes where it's just a waste of time to feel outraged at the locals.

Plus we've got better things to do.
>>
>>36660210
Oh, I figured we'd do it after we handled shit first. Obviously we're not going to pull a murderhobo of 'I MUST SET ASIDE THIS IMPORTANT QUEST TO PURSUE SOMEONE WHO STOLE A PENNY FROM MY POCKET!' on things.
>>
>>36660219
We crashed her door, pushed a stranger in and gave her the fucking money.

Also it's like a bombardment out there. People are likely to think "me first" in these situations and you can't really blame them.

Just ignore her. What does a fucking silver coin mean to us these days?
>>
>>36660219
Eh, it's just some bitch being a bitch, not worth wasting our time over.

And for that matter we ideally shouldn't have spare time in which to do it, since as soon as our job is done here we should get busy leaving because FUCK CATENO.
>>
>>36660210
I meant well after we'd killed the monsters, told Spinelle to fuck off because we hate her for what she did to us, and had a quiet little cry to get over the minor PTSD bump.

When the battle is done, we should ask Arnaud if there's an orphanage back in the capital that isn't a goddamn brothel, and take the girl there. But only after catching the end of the picnic, we aren't going to miss the whole goddamn thing and the orphanage will still be there afterwards.
>>
>>36660020
Living on a street only visibly ages adults. A child that is malnourished would be underdeveloped and look younger, her looking Elena's age could possibly signify her being older than Elena, but not younger.
>>
>>36660247
It would take effort and self-endangerment to push the little girl back out the door and not just retreat into the building until it was all over. "Me First" is not opening the door out of fear, and is understandable at least, but what she did was actively dickish.
>>
>>36660288
>spoilertext

You're an awful person.

>>
>>36660317
Maybe send her with Arnaud?
>>
>>36660311
Pretty much, yeah. It would have cost her nothing at all to just let the little girl stand around. She deliberately and actively kicked an orphan out to die for no reason other than 'fuck her'.
>>

>take orphan to the end of the picnic

Alright, assuming we bring her back...

Do we drop her at Grandma's house, at Nico's, at Citrine's, or find her a job at the castle?
>>
What nobody here has even remotely stopped to consider:

Grandma is coming to visit in a day or two.

Orphan needs a home.

Grandma needs a successor (and company!).
>>
>>36660375
>be >>36660376

>>
I'm starting to wonder if by "plans" arch mean giving Elena a bff for some eventual spinoff.
>>
>>36660376
I think orphanage/hired by the castle is considerably more likely. Also that makes it far easier to have her pop up whenever there's a need for an adorable orphan paragraph.
>>
>>36660393
But if she gets adopted by gran, then that means when Elena goes back home she'll have a fellow sword-girl to practice with.
>>
>>36660375
I'm sure she'll either get taken in by one of the families or she'll get a job at the castle.

She needs to be in a position to pop up and do daughteru stuff at appropriate intervals assuming she survives that long anyway.
>>
>>36660425
I'm not sure she'd be a particularly major character outside of infrequent namedrop type stuff, Arch has already indicated the quest is character heavy.
>>
>>36660443
I think it's hilarious that arch was wary about including more characters and then he waves an orphan girl at us because he feels like it. How did he think /tg/ would react?

It's like he never heard of Noh.
>>
>>36660485
I still think she'll only be a background character who gets namedropped occasionally about how well she's doing as karma for saving her or the odd brief interaction.
>>
>>36660526
So she'll join the cohort of people Reinhold make sure to talk to once in a blue moon.

>>
>>36660730
So only about 2 years before orphan girl? Perhaps less?
I don't see anything wrong with her going for Meido try-outs if she'd be cool with that.
>>
>>36660730
Thanks good anon, was wondering.
>>
>>36660745

She seems to want to be fighty, maybe combat bodyguard maid in training?

Her mentors would be Reinhold and whatever Nicolette's girlfriend's name is.
>>
>>36660764
I think that if we go with that plan the maid thing would just be her day job while she learns to swing a sword.

Right now she's presumably useless as a fighter so even if she got the drive to learn she'd need something to do to justify living in the castle. I suppose that if someone adopted her things would be a little different but even our privileged Granachian friends pull their weights and have jobs.
>>
>>36660764
>bodyguard maid
What's one of those then?
>>
>>36660764
Combat Meidos are a miracle of the universe
>>
>>36660797
You don't start off as a maid if you want to be a swordie. You start off scrubbing all the guard's boots, fixing broken training dummies, sharpening swords etc.
>>
>>36660831
Maybe you're right. It would probably be better for her to do that.
>>
So are people cool with wanting to find her a job if/when we bring her to the castle?
See if there any openings or ways we can squeeze her in, then probably ask her if she'd rather be a guard or a maid and take things from there?
>>
>>36660869
We can worry about her career later, the important thing is deciding if we bring her back with us or not. Finding her something to do will come organically if she lives at the castle.
>>
>>36660878
Agreed. That said, we shouldn't make this a habit unless we want to be spending most of our annual income on cakes whenever we mess up.
>>
>>36660965
Train her as a baker, free cakes forever.
>>
>>36659744

B^uckley pls
>>
>>36660869
I don't expect her to turn into a proper character, but there's no way we're just leaving her here when we can at least ensure she gets taken to a proper orphanage in the capital. You can't personally save every waif, but that doesn't mean you just ignore a little girl in a blend of the positions Reinhold and Citrine were in when she's right in front of you.
>>
>>36661047
>You can't personally save every waif
Well, maybe not your shitty waif, but we're definitely saving my waif.
>>
>>36661047
Dropping her in an orphanage is terribly half-assed, though, especially since we have zero experience about how non-shit they are.

OTOH you can't just adopt someone you just met when you're seventeen fucking years old so if we take her with us we're effectively forcing one of our friends of two months to take care of her. That's something that merits pondering.
>>
>>36661089
>you can't just adopt someone you just met when you're seventeen fucking years old
You probably can with royal permission.
>>
>>36659948
so can we make a bad ass necklaces out of leviathan teeth?
>>
>>36661089
We do have connections at the highest level of government including to the goddamn royal spymaster. We can pretty easily ask after a good, trustworthy orphanage. We're both too busy and too inexperienced to take responsibility for a child (not to mention Luciana would have something to say on the matter), but since she seemed more enthused than cowed by our display there's nothing to stop us giving a few words of encouragement and buying her a decent practice sword to point her in the right direction if she's interested.
