Voting rules:
Most responses within 20 minutes will be chosen.

In the case of skill-based checks, roll 1d20, will choose best of five.
If there's a 1, the check is automatically a critical failure and all other rolls are ignored.
Conversely, if there's a 20, considered a critical success for the check, regardless of other rolls.
In the rare case there's a 20 and a 1, they both cancel each other out and the result is the best of the remaining 3.

>PLAYER SELECT: MAKOTO KINUSHIMA

You are Makoto Kinushima, and you're lost.

Again.

>KOUTA: "You think we should go back and get directions?"
>MAKOTO: "FROM WHO?"
>KOUTA: "Y'know, the Green Rider?"
>MAKOTO: "... Really?"
>KOUTA: "..."
>MAKOTO: "Really, dude."
>KOUTA: "I'm just saying..."

Kouta had a point, reluctantly enough. In your wanderings away from the Green Rider, trying to calm your nerves and convincing yourself NOT to go back and try to put a claw through its skull, you found yourself lost once more in the forest. This was beginning to happen way too often for your tastes.

You guys still do have the LockVehicles you obtained from Sid, which can be used to get home. But off in the near distance, you see some shapes that don't look anything like they're organic... Too angular, too gray and cold-looking to be organic forestation. They look like ruins...

Sup, Ska! That looks awesome so far!
I think people were thinking more curved flags for the replacements of the Hata Flags on the back of Kachidoi, to resemble blades or wings (or both) of some kind.
So far, though, it looks awesome!

>MAKOTO: "Kouta... do those things look like ruins to you, by any chance?"

Kouta follows your vision and tries to get a good look at them, but shakes his head.

>KOUTA: "Sure don't look grown to me... you're not thinking of che--"

Before he has time to finish the sentence, you're already picking through the brush and foliage to make your way to it. Kouta protests for a bit, but your curiosity is getting the better of you.

As the two of you get closer, it becomes more clear - indeed, this is a manmade structure. The vines growing on it indicate it's been here for longer than you would imagine, but the writing and etching on the walls doesn't seem to be in any language you could read. It resembles cuneiform of a sort, but it's been so long since you've studied anything resembling it that it's lost on you.

But what's more interesting is the fact there's a Crack inside this structure, resting at the stage part of an ampitheater. It opens up to what looks to be some part of a factory or power plant or something... but you're not sure. It's too far away to tell.

...wait, that looks like a human figure at the crack, peering in from the outside.

And you could swear that was Mai and Yusei for a second, before they scattered back into the factory.

>KOUTA: "Mai-chan!"

You and Kouta stumble your way down the steps of the ampitheater, before making it down to the Crack. It appears to be one of those longer-lasting ones, based on the growth of Helheim plants in the real world outside. Both of you peek your heads out from the Crack into the real world briefly, to take a look around, before stepping out fully.

Indeed, your first thoughts were right - this does look like the interior of a powerplant. Most of the lights are off, though, which is stranger - this place doesn't look to be in much disrepair, even as a barely-used corner of it.

However, there's an empty safety helmet on the floor next to the fruit growths on the ground.

>KOUTA, MAKOTO: "...uh oh."

Mai and Yusei lean out from behind some machinery, blinking a second. After getting a decent look at both of you, hwoever, they step back out.

>MAI: "Makoto-chan? Kouta-kun? That's you, right?"
>KOUTA: "Yeah, that's us. We're fine, are you guys okay?"

>MAI: "We had heard of a power plant worker disappearing around here, around very similar times to the sightings of the Inves. Apparently, we also got a report that the Inves was seen attacking a fruit truck for some reason."
>KOUTA: "What? A fruit truck? What for?"
>YUSEI: "No idea, yet. Bandou from Drupers was on watch, since it wasn't his truck, but since that sighting about 8 hours ago there's been no reports."
>MAKOTO: "Any idea what it's after so far? Humans, or..."

AN idea comes to you. Or rather, a number of ideas. Based on your observation on the Inves eating the Lockseeds and fruit, you can reasonably assume it's not eating people itself. However, if it's attacking people, that must mean it's...

>MAKOTO: "You said it was attacking a fruit truck... what happened during the attack?"
>MAI: "According to Bandou-san, it attacked the driver on the side. Searched through the shipment, didn't find whatever it was looking for, started destroying the fruits, and then... fled."

As you thought.

>MAKOTO: "Put yourself in its position. You know they're animals of sorts, right? Especially lower-level ones, all they care about is eating. And what do they eat?"

Yusei gets it, as if a lightbulb went off over his head.

>YUSEI: "So it's hunting for food here... and they eat... fruit!"
>MAKOTO: "Yes, exactly! It's hunting fruit, specifically these things."

You gesture to the purplish fruits growing on the vines, which Mai and Yusei take a closer look at. Instinctively, you step closer to them - you're pretty sure eating them is NOT a good idea.

>MAKOTO: "So what we should do, is use one of these fruits, put it on Bandou's next shipment, and --"
>KOUTA, MAI: "Hold on a second."
>KOUTA: "Shouldn't we, y'know... /talk/ to him first? Y'know, so that he's not sabotaged either? By us trying to vigilante all over the place?"

You sigh.

>AT DRUPERS

>BANDOU: "You're not serious, are you?"
>MAKOTO: "If I wasn't serious, I wouldn't be bringin' this kinda shit up to yo, now would I?"

You're in the back room of Drupers, trying to sell Bandou on the idea. And judging by the downcast face of Kouta next to you, it ain't working too well.

>BANDOU: "You're essentially saying to me that I need to put myself in that much danger, just to retrieve what you're saying is a loose Inves? And you're sure it's not some kind of other Monster or another Armored Rider trying to start shit--... what am I even saying."
>KOUTA: "Look, you're the best lead we got on locking this thing down. Matter of fact, you're the best lead we got. If we can either trap or kill this thing, the neighborhood's going to be that much safer."
>MAKOTO: "Are you in with this thing, or not?"
>BANDOU: "I better get your guarantee that I won't be losing my entire stock by the end of this thing."
>MAKOTO, KOUTA: "You have our word."

As you finish up the planning, one thing comes to mind:

What do you know about trapping an animal?

>17 (success)

You flash back to when you were youung, a fresh-faced and rowdy young girl at the age of 6. When your father was still around.

A real rougher, a man who loved to live by the fruit of his labor and it showed. Absolutely ripped to all hell, even as he got progressively older. A rugged face, scar over his nose. And a laugh, direct from the diaphragm, that would still stikc with you forever.

Takeru Kinushima.

One of the times you and your parents went camping, someone may have potentially forgotten the food at home. In its absence, your father had taught you about the core concepts of trapping animals, both big and small. Your father had bitten off a bit more than he could chew when he tried to trap a big deer, but still...

An idea starts to formulate.

==========================================

It's night time, near the loading bay of Drupers. More of an alleyway than anything glorified, but still with plenty of room. Bandou's truck, filled with fruit of all kinds, is parked there - but in the cargo, is a piece of unripened Helheim fruit. It took you guys a few tries to get one that didn't turn into a Lockseed immediately, until Mai herself picked one without any transformation. Apparently, one of the powers of the Sengoku Drivers you and Kouta utilized allowed for the unripened fruit to immediately become the Lockseeds.

Now, with you, Micchy and Kouta stashed in empty trashcans, already transformed and waiting, and with Mai, Yusei, Honda, and a couple others from Gaim in the shadows... all you could do was wait.

The group does its best to remain perfectly still, even after minutes pass by. You're so focused on watching the truck, that you don't notice Kouta trying to get your attention from the trashcan next to you.

>KOUTA: "...psst, Makoto."
>MAKOTO: "What?"
>KOUTA: "It's like we're actually ninjas and such! Sneaking around, hiding in wait... this is so cool!"
>MAKOTO: "I know right! But shut up, we're supposed to be serious this time."

You hear grunting sounds of affirmation on your other side, and you return to your -- wait.

Some guy in a bat costume's decided to enter the fun, getting into another trashcan next to you. Certainly an elaborate costume, you think, but as he's not going after the fruit, you pay him no mind. You see his beady eyes look over to you, as he makes questioning sounds towards you.

>MAKOTO: "No, we're waiting for someone to get the fruit. It's a trap for an Inves that's running around the city."

The guy in the bat costume blinks for a second - /really/ elaborate, hoyl crap - but shrugs, and waits.

>MAKOTO: "So are you here to help capture the Inves as well?"

The bat-costumed guy looks surprised, maybe a bit offended. Its sounds are unintelligible, but you're sure it's saying "No, not me!"

>MAKOTO: "Hmm..."

You return to your vigil for another time.

Until it hits you, right as the bat costume thing prowls over to the truck, and starts picking through the fruit in it.

You, in a flash of brilliance, have another plan. You gesture to Micchy and Kouta to wait momentarily, before jumping him. As you do so, you emerge from your trashcan, only to fall right on your face.

The Inves turns, and rather than running away like a spooked deer like you were anticipating, stops dead in its tracks. You're not sure why, but it seems like it's processing what it's looking at when it looks in your direction.

After a swift recovery from kissing the pavement, you brush yourself off. Take a deep breath, and affect an angry mom tone of voice.

>MAKOTO: "Hey! Hey, get away from that! That's not for you, that's for someone else!"

ALl the while, you're moving clockwise to the Inves, making sure its eyes are glued onto you, while Kouta and Micchy try sneaking around - covering their bodies with the trashcans tipped upside down. The Inves is acting like a dog that just got caught by its owner doing something naughty, but is clutching onto the Helheim fruit like it's a precious gem.

>MAKOTO: "If you want food, I can get some more food for you, okay? We can take you back to your home, where there's tons of delicious hell fruits, and you don't have to attack anyon--KOUTA, MICCHY, NOW!"

Without hesitation, Kouta and Micchy throw the trashcans at the Inves, pelting him with admittedly light pieces of plastic. The Inves turns around and is able to block most of it, but when Kouta throws two knives with a string tied between them towards its feet, it's got nothing. It trips over, and makes pained whining noises in frustration. Kouta pins it down, Micchy has his gun pointed at it, and the Inves is squirming around for its life.

Deciding that mercy was probably a better method of dealing with the problem, you tell Micchy to back off a bit. Leaning down, you grasp the Helheim fruit in your transformed hands - turning it into a Lockseed after a couple seconds. The Inves looks distraught for a second, grasping at the Lockseed with fervor, but you hold it out of reach.

>MAKOTO: "No fruit for you if you're going to act like this. If you behave yourself, I mgiht give you a couple treats. Back to the Forest, boy."

After a second of processing, the Inves stops struggling. Kouta manages to tie his hands together, and Micchy de-transforms, sighing.

>MICCHY: "This was much easier than anticipated... interesting."

They got a new translator for their Drive subs, they're not bad. Certainly better than their other stuff Overtime's still the best though.
>>
>>36685202
See, I personally love TV-Nihon's terrible subs. I don't know about you guys, but I have a masochistic affection for subtitles that make no damn sense. The worse the subs, the better. Oh, I'll still watch a version with good subtitles afterward to figure out what really happened. But trying to figure out the plot from the mangled remains of the script that the translators left behind is actually kind of fun.
>>
>>36685353
You must be having a blast with HK.
>>
>>36685202

It's not the translator that's the problem, it's the editor. They know perfectly well what it all means as they keep giving TL Notes, they just refuse to typeset it properly. Or sometimes they just assume your Nipponese is good enough to follow. Their Zeta Gundam compilation movie subs are atrocious at points, I originally thought it was a set of stills edited for the sake of parodying TV-N, not something they'd actually produce.
>>
>>36685353
See, I get that. Nonsensical HK subs are hilarious. Terrible English dubs? Right up my alley. It's just with TV-Nihon, you know that they're more than capable of being better than they are, but they hardly ever will, like >>36685385 says.
>>
>>36685382

He couldn't like HK for those purposes. You can still see what the subs are meant to say. TV-N's subs completely and sometimes intentionally change the tone or implications of a sentence and change what that means about a character completely, to the point where their Blade subs and a resubbed Blade episode are basically two different shows.

Your name: Ryouji Hase.

Your location: Unknown. Looks like a deep, dark forest, with really tall pine and redwood trees. Doesn't look

Cell service: Nope.
GPS: Nope.

No, seriously, it says "NOPE" where it usually says your service provider.

This is weird.

Currently, you're laying on a smooth stone jutting out slightly from the mossy ground. You appear to be wearing your normal clothes, but aside from your phone, you've got nothing else to your name. No wallet, no Lockseeds...

...No Driver.

>RYOUJI: "This is spooky."

All around you, you hear soft, but unintelligible mumblings. They sound far off, underwater almost, and they pulse and ebb randomly...

To your north (you approximate) you see mountains, covered in mist.
To your east, you clearly hear the sounds of a deep river.
To your south, you see more trees.

Seeing nothing around you that seems to be giving a clue as to where you are, you choose a direction and wander.

>WEST.

The trees here are tall, strong, and seem to be deeply rooted. You place a wild guess in the high hundreds of years for how long they've been around... but you find it strange that you haven't seen any animals yet. Not even a sound of a bi--

Oh, there we go. There's a very faint chirp of something bird-like, further to the west.

Well, it's the best you've got so far. Might as well follow it.

As you wander, the muddled voices become slightly louder, clarifying and coalescing into a single, female voice.

And the sound of it stops you dead in your tracks.

>MAKOTO: "Hase... it's me..."
>RYOUJI: "Makoto-chan?!"

You yell to the woods. The voice seems to come from all around, even from the ground and sky.

>MAKOTO: "Things are.... has taken over... doing...."

This just seems to frustrate you. The more she talks, the more you strain to try to pick out her voice against the ambient sounds of the woods. But no luck...

>MAKOTO: "We've... beaten Baron..."

>MAKOTO: "We managed to beat Baron, quite a couple times... Kaito's gotten a Driver as well, and there's been people in that Forest we were in. This green rider, he was guarding the Forest... once you come back, we'll..."

Then the voice starts to get muddly again. You squeeze your eyes shut and try to focus once more, but her voice starts to waver even more into ambient noises.

>>

To be honest, a putting a Katar on top of a Cestus is pretty much unnecessary, since the blade would kill anyone it hit before your fist connected with the target.
Now, if the Blade shot out of the Gauntlet the moment you punched something, then it would be useful.
Like Alt-Eisen's Revolver Stake, but with a blade instead of a spike.
>>
>>36688685 You do have a point but That's very nifty. I don't know how Sagara is going to put Yoko in this version of Gaim but I'm envisioning her as a wind of destruction as well from Yggdrasil's Dubai/Pan Arabian Branch.

Also, a "Forbidden Fruit" theme wouldn't work well because MakoMako has already got the traditional christian one. That is, the Apple.
>>
>>36689410
Actually, Grecian is a perfectly acceptable word. it refers to ancient Greece rather than modern Greece. So if he's talking about Hades and Persephone, it's right.
>>
>>36689410
Fun fact: the Torah/Bible never gave any indication of what sort of fruit the Fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil really was. The apple thing is just Christendom doing its usual cultural assimilation schtick on the Golden Apple of Greek myth.
>>
>>36689564
Indeed I was making a pass at Ancient Greece

back onto the Wind's of Destruction angle. I was picturing one of the female member's being something like Picture Related?
>>
>>36689564
Huh. I wasn't aware of that. The I've only ever seen people use Greek, myself.

>>36689577
Now, of That, I am aware.
There is also the theory that the Roman translators used the apple as a poetic name because its name was an homophome with the latin word for Bad Thing, Malus, but thats an old theory I saw on an old Documentary, so it isn't much more than trivia.
Other Researchers theorize that the Fig might have been the "original" Fruit of Knowledge, but for all we know the Forbidden Fruit was never meant to be any specific Real fruit, but an imaginary one.
Thing is, the apple is the most well known version, and the easiest to associate with the myth, so it is the best fruit to represent the Forbidden Fruit as per the Judeo-Christian version of the Myth.

As you continue, you notice that the appearance of the forest around you changes subtly. One moment it looks all realistic, the next the environment appears painted with watercolors.

You're pretty sure this isn't real, at this point, but you've seen stranger.

Which is then reaffirmed by what you come across next.

As you make your way, you can feel the dirt around you start shifting. It gives way under your feet, and it's much hotter than any dirt... and when you look up, you're seeing a LOT more sand and dunes than forest.

How the fuck did you start coming across a goddamn DESERT all of a sudden?

The ruins you come across are pyramidic in shape, with worn down slabs of pearly white blocks. The pyramids soar higher than the eyes can track, but there's a sign outside of an entrance to this once opulent pyramid.

You try to take a good look at the sign that's out in front of the Pyramid. While at first it looks like it says "WAKE UP", whne you take a closer look, it starts to blur and try to reform itself into multiple words. Some of them make some sense - "TO ZAWAME" and "TO TOKYO" - whereas other words and phrases didn't fit at all. Who was this "GOODBYE, JOJO"?

Regardless, your hesitate to try to read it again. Trying to look at it from the corner of your eye, you can glimpse "WAKE UP" again. Seems to be the most visible thing on the sign.

But from the open, cavernous entrance comes a COLOSSALLY powerful gust of wind. Enough to knock you onto your ass, and blow all the breath out of you. You can hear a metallic screech from inside... bird-like, you assume.

As you enter the pyramid, the wind continues to blow and try to beat you down. You put your hands up to cover your face, guarding against the blowing sand and debris.

One step in front of another.

The voices come back, louder and clearer this time. You can pick out people immediately that you recognize - your mother and father, worried but optimistic that you'll pull through ("He's a really strong boy, there's no way he could fail."). You can hear Honda, Yusei and the rest of the team speaking to you, giving you well wishes.

And inside the pyramid is a single chamber, with a skylight shining luminous light into the room.

A pillar looms in the center of the room, on which rests... a massive, metallic bird that perches on the pillar. Its wings seem to be able to stretch across the chamber, and its beady eyes blink multiple times.

Which stares holes into you.

...interesting. Yeah, it's going to be fun to find out what these inner world beast-god things are. Probably something that in the end will be just as bad as Helheim, but at least it'll be a hell of a ride discovering how our association with them will doom us. Thanks for running, Sagara. See you next week.

Also, I want to apologize for the slowness of today's thread. We've got finals going on this upcoming weekend, and we've also been working on something special for you guys.

In a tribute to you guys, and to help people get caught up on previous threads in a new way.

In any case, thanks for sticking around, and OOC time is a go! We'll be hanging around for a while, so feel free to ask us any questions, voice comments, concerns or thoughts!

Good Luck Sagara!

Just one odd question. Just how many Yggdrasil Branches are In on the whole Helheim forest gig Not counting Yggdrasil Japan and possibly Yggdrasil Los Angeles or New York?

Reason Being it kinda relates to the whole Yggdrasil Winds of Destruction Idea I'm musing/bouncing around

Technically... all of them. According to DJ Sagara, he mentioned the list of Yiggdrasil Branches with Erina talking to Micchy in EP 9. However, no indication of which ones are directly involved with the Helheim forest.

This is general knowledge. As far as we know, Micchy has not shared this information with anyone else:
>Point 2:
Yggdrasil's begun to have majority share of control over Washington DC, Dallas, San Francisco, Manila, New Delhi, and Rome. Yggdrasil's sparring off against heavy competition, however, in London, New York City, Cairo, and Hong Kong. There have been minor riots in Hong Kong and DC about the presence of Yggdrasil, however they have been resolved fairly quickly.

Thanks Sagara and well, I just can't stop picturing Sengoku Ryoma with a Jetstream Sam Type Katana Lockseed or maybe his own personal custom weapon.
