Nobody is sure how the fall came. But they are sure of what came after it.

This is the post apocalypse, a world where your greatest dreams haunt you and your wildest nightmares come true.

A world of men and mutants, of Artificial Intelligences and terrible monstrous races, of good guys and bad guys and everything in between, of science and greed taken to new and perverse heights. The dead walk, the living fight, and the gods laugh.

And here, you will lead a civilization. To greatness or ignominy, to good or evil, to glory or shame, that is entirely up to you.

New players are welcomed and encouraged, old players are appreciated and our condolences.

>Megacorp are able to treat resources as a material in terms of efficiency.

>Survivors get a bonus to salvaging and survival actions.

>Tribals get bonuses to scouting and Guerrilla warfare.

>Think Tank start with a Tech specialty and gain a special unit because of this.

>Paramilitary are automatically trained must still spend resources though just not an action.

>Government Civ may mimic another civs special or have another possibly even create their own with GM permission.

>Mutants get access to 1 free mutation(make one up) plus a base mutation that ALL mutants have. Base mutation grants great toughness to survive in environments where ordinary humanity would find impossible. Enhanced strength easily allowing you to overpower a ordinary human and mild bonus to agility. Unfortunately they suffer from major rep penalty(humies fucking HATE you, bandits don't like you and other mutants are wary) and severe breeding issue.

>bandits have the special ability to auto upgrade their forces thanks to their life style(other factions have to spend resources AND a action to do so bandits just do resources) however they are unable to make their own supply(must raid or something) and suffer a reputation penalty. *WARNING* white knight choices will be vetoed you are EVIL, but that doesn't mean you can't be smart/clever about it not to mention varying levels of it *WARNING*.

>robots cannot produce without resources as they do not breed. Suffer rep penalty but do not suffer the weaknesses of the flesh.

When choosing Civ please include HQ option you wish to have for it.

If you lose your HQ WITHOUT another settlement its game over.

Feel free to come up with fluff/ideas it may even be used and you may get a bonus out of it too boot. Hybrids are not allowed unless proper fluff is provided or to break a tie.

After civs are chosen homeground and terrain need to be decided.

Your civ will receive bonuses when doing stuff within their homeground and a smaller bonus in terrain similar to it.

to get an idea of what goes in what its like this

Civ->HQ->Homeground>Terrain>Region

your civ being within your HQ is inside your Homeground, which is contained within the local terrain, and the terrain is within the Region.

You are able to decide everything BUT the region you are in.

Are this is decided you are given a choice of a heroic unit and then game starts.

Heroic units by the way are VERY strong and when sacrificed count as a fate point kinda. Be aware though while alive they can offer both passive and active bonuses.

Heroic units are what you can get INSTEAD of fate points.

Every starter civ will start with ONE heroic unit, a few specials(including officers), some bad asses, and a couple elite.

Good luck finding them all except for the hero is revealed for free at start.

Default timeframe for the Civs is during the Blight Era which is the 'easiest' option. While the default civ type is small.

the other available eras are the

>Green Growth
>Darkest Dawn
>Blasted Blighting
>Reckoning's Remorse
>Collective Chaos

Other options are of course available just post it. Whether it be a different game, civ, or whatever i am adaptable.

"Santino and the gratefully undead" had an extreme cult following back before the fall. They were very vocal in the pre fall days about the government and the Megacorps misdeeds. Santino Garciaparra was considered by some to be an anti-government terrorist, and his group of followers "the dead skulls" were hooligan youth who were being manipulated by Santino. The dead skuls did often carry out wanton acts of destruction and mayhem, but Little did the world know that Santino was just a pawn in a much larger game. a certain doctor [redacted] had secretly began testing a new psychoactive pill that is both fun as hell and supposed to boost receptivity to psionic activity. It worked. Very well. Too well. The members of the dead skulls became so psionicly active that they were able to develop a "pseudo hivemind cloud" that acts as Their means governing themselves and assigning orders to those within the loop. Fortunately when the fall hit, everybody was able to hunker down in "Santino's bitchin' Partybus" that happened to be fortified for just such an occurrence. Now they do what they can, bringing tasty 5 hour long jam sessions and funny pills to your home town. Best believe when Santino is in town it's time to have fun!

>Wargarde

>Leader [Badass]
Male, Warlord Jack and looks to be in prime 20s - 30s range. Hair white and body fit.

>Initiates
Jack had little luck in life. Bandits, unrest (from the town he lived in) and problems from the ruler, if you can call them that he was no better that a newborn. Then it happened while training his units the town went under, the ruler killed and time was slipping away. Fires burned, goblins taking everything in sight and people lost from lack of leadership. His time came to take this mess and make something of it. He called upon his Initiates and saved what he could from the goblins.

>Clerics
The town was in ruins and there was no need to be here, so Jack left. He made his way to a town no far off in the hopes of seeing an old friends of his, Samuel. Turns out they been busy, within the last few years Samuel has grown a following of Clerics under a god of war and death. To Jack's surprise Samuel welcomed him in and soon they built up an army fitting his plans for taking this area. No more will random bandits hurt people, for this land is his.

>Magical Creature [elite]
Amazing luck hit when they ready for their first campaign, a blessing from the war god. They were beings of fire and bone. Hard to use are first, but with luck and help from the clerics we learned to work with them. One was named Niran Of the Ashes, with time we learn to speak their language and they ours.

Just stick with humans.

oh crap before I forget I don't do the stupid niche of humans being the 'diplomatic' or jack of all trades bullshit.

Humans niche is similar to what we have now their favorite terrain is plains but can also commonly be found in hills or coasts.

Humans are noted for being the 'youngest' of the civilized races and are still hung up between the two forces they are caught between.

ability wise humans have keen eyes, great endurance, good aim, and decent strength. Brain wise they are considered the 'smartest' of savages and the 'dullest' of the civilized.

Whiles humans may lose to a dwarf in terms of sheer endurance they ARE faster.

While humans may lose to elves in ranged in terms of skill they can throw their weapons HARDER.

I'm still trying to think of things flesh out the dark magic cultist, if we can do that.

>Cultists / Ruins / Knowledge Dark Magic (mainly necromancy)

Life wasn't best for the fall and after words it didn't change. Many lost their way and lacked heart. Then a calling came to him, one of hunger and old times. It was do to the events of the fall it awakened once again. Freed from its' in casement and seeing worshipers, it called to him.

Jason was his name and unknown to him he was a luck one, for in his blood line magic flowed. Unhappy with the world's end and a want to change its' out come he listened to it and agreed. Power for followers, Change for faith and protection for loyalty.

Starting out in this ruined town and dishearten people abound he grow a following. He called out to them and they listened, for they needed something ... hope. With their faith power started to come back to It and magic flowed into Jason. This power is unkind to life, but it is strong and with it Jason knows what to do.

For area I'm voting home ground a town in ruins. The area a forested mountain range with a few rives running through out.

Nobody knows whence they came from. They appeared in a great burst of light and the ground around them singed, they were like iron golems and yet. . .more. They seemed to have no master, no magician or wizard controlling them, yet they acted with a purpose unfathomable.

They had at their fingertips weapons which seemed to shoot death in the form of lightning and fire.

They delve deep into the earth to gather more metal ores, in what seems to be to make more of their kin.

Many fear what their true purpose is, but I fear, if we do not do something, these. . .automatons, will be the terminator of our way of life as we know it.

What is the nature of a mans sole? What is it that drives him to fight the world and destiny to make a name for them selves. That fire of creation that drives them is not always there in equal parts, but in the nightstone tribe it burns strong and true. Living in the planes halfsin they work to become a mighty kingdom. Using knowledge found and stolen they build. What was once a gathering of wooden hovels has become a mighty fortress. To other men they are great, but to stranger things they are nothing. Can they rise higher still? Can they become gods among men? Only you can find out

Well, that was the point of it being another rendition of "Modern v Fantasy" since the last one didn't end up so well because we initially though it would be "Fantasy vs Modern"

But humans evolved around the Rift lakes, and it shows. All of our major cities are on coasts or rivers, because fish is the easiest/most efficient way to get protein (and it is the easiest to figure out how to store for long periods of time), and it's also much easier to transport goods for trade via water rather than land.

If humans aren't allowed on the coasts because of aquatics in your setting...well I'd be surprised if we didn't just die out.

I'll vote for Dwarves.

Grunhilde was trained from infancy to be a runesmith of the tinhelm clan. When the clan elder died, she and her siblings went into isolation with their loyalest followers, there to compete for the title of 'wearer of the helm of tin' (it sounds better in Dvr'an). After a year of exacting runecraft, Grunehilde returned to the site of her homeland with her steam golems - finding only the remains of her clansmen and the stench of undead.

With the usual Dwarven Stoicism, Grunhilde now seeks to unite the survivors of this once proud clan behind her banner.
>>
>>36707930
What about rune magic? You know, quick golemcrafting, enchanting, but little in the way of flashy magic that doesn't take a long time? Could we make a steam beast that runs off dwarven cunning instead of what humans would recognize as technology?
>>
>>36708134

Dwarves are the undisputed masters of runesmithing.

Dwarven constructs rely more upon runes and craftsmanship then engineering.

>>
>>36708314
>It compares.
It doesn't compare
It blows it right out of the water.

Modern anti-aircraft guns can only knock out tanks, but Mages didn't just knock them out, they atomized those tanks.

The ONLY type of explosive that could stop the mass and force dozen tanks moving full speed in an instant and then literally vaporize them from existence (not leaving so much as slag) are perhaps fission weapons.

Essentially, mages are like walking nuclear bombs of power.

>>36708471
Takes a long time to train up a mage and their powers have a lifespan before they need to rest/recharge.

Even then you have different quality among mage. A good mage though...yeah.

Can do all of that until that one is burnt out then that mage becomes a sitting duck. Not to mention specialties and crap.

Over all its like this IF I had to choose between playing a modern I WOULD because while it may be costly as shit at first eventually i'll be able to win.

UNLESS the fantasy faction is able to pull out additional mass monsters and others.

In which case I choose fantasy.

Basically as modern you get to enjoy your forces being 'dispoable' compared to the fantasy you can shrug off losses a hell of a lot better.

In the long run my money is on the modern.

UNLESS as fantasy my selection and de facto line up isn't limited.

>>36708270
Maybe at a later date like after this civ I'll go for it if my test confirms some things.
>>
>>36708499
She's fine with the Dwarves, we just need to nerf them a bit from the gunpowder age shit we were imagining.

Here's my vote:

Shadow Colonies

Free Mage Unit: Runesmith
Hero: Grunhilde, Female. Nobility, Leader (assuming we can still get the runesmith as a separate unit, otherwise Nobility, Mage)
Troops: Nonhuman (dwarves)
Badass: Special (warconstructs)
Magi: Whichever is most likely to get construction magic (warlock/which?)

Any thoughts on this build? Votes for or against?

'limited' as in shit.

If I am stuck playing a fantasy vs modern with a bunch of infantry with mage support and limited monster fuck you.

Those mages and monsters are gonna be what lets me WIN!

If you give me shit for one both I be fucked.

Even WITH heavy mage support in the long run modern will win unless I have a decent amount of monster support to cover them.

Because mages be squishy...especially once they are out of juice and at their most vulnerable.

For sure as the sun sets the enemy is gonna figure that one out and if I don't got any monster things to cover my little ass I be fucked.

Hell I'll even give up on the infantry for both of them. Sure I wont be able to hold shit but the sheer volume of damage i could inflict...

--------
Yes i have put to much thought into this. The hard fact is though unless I got shit like animu bullshit without extensive monster and mage I will fucking lose against modern eventually.

Tanks perform better in a line than in a collumn though. . .

Generally most charges perform better in a line than in a column.

Elite Undead SPECIAL(fuck you all)
Katonine monstrous unit said to each possess many live the total is believed to hover around nine.

Be warned the more lives they lose the stronger they become...this can be determined exactly by how many tails they possess.

I'd also vote Warlord type hero

Name: Gundra, sixth generation copper dwarf foreman. Gender: Dwarf.

Random elite:
Ragor, unorthodox runesmaster. Gender: Dwarf.

bad ass spawn: war automatons

Fluff: The dwarven kingdom is a once mighty empire, now riven by civil war (Think China in the warring states era). Gundra's clan was one of the most powerful during peace times, but her less warlike people have suffered heavy losses at the hammers of more agressive clans. Only the creation of the warforged legion, and the help of the heretical runesmith Ragor, have kept these losses from becoming total.

As for your undead unit...

Scourger: Elite special undead unit VERY rare AND very powerful. Known for their great intelligence, strength, and age even among the dead.

Scourging Slayer: Whenever the living are slain by them will automatically arise as undead. In game effect any unit slain by them will arise as a unit of Scourglings the very next turn.

Necrosis: Their blows and even touch upon the living is known to make their very flesh rot away

Necrotic Plague: Areas where they stay for any duration of time will gradually increase in necrotic energy. This is eventually hostile to the living, a boon to the undead, and eventually can even cause spontaneous generation of undead.

Leader Falon the Scourged.

Special units of dwarven Runesmiths, Alchemists, Troopers, Sappers, and shooters.

You have a unit of Elite Undead Special unit aka Scourgers.

Grunts.

Clerics.

Special Unit adviser.

zone is Wargarde.

Meaning you gain the ability to automaticly convert all pop into militia.

You start with a single keep a bunch of hovels how fun.

Something akin to Scourgers is what happens when undead are not dealt with quickly enough.

The older they get the more powerful they get thanks to the increasing influence, concentration, and soak of necromantic energy they naturally possess.

Even if they aren't in area already saturated...eventually given time an old enough undead can make it happen in reverse.

Its why ancient undead even if their idiots are so terrifying.

The necrotic energy just never stops workings its magic...so while the undead is 'alive' it still keeps being produced to allow it to do such.

Not that much a stretch. As is there are certain modern themes with them so it allows breathing room contrary to popular belief.

While I can't say my stuff is very tolkien esque its because I went back and tapped into the Fae roots. The thing tolkien originally used too not to mention i rather don't mind the modern stuff so much(kinda otherwise I wouldn't bother with the ancient research).

Dice kill civs, bad plan or no.

For example a newb who doesn't know the rules deleting a crit will always lead to unrecoverable penalties for everybody, and is practically a deferred death sentence.

The next time that happens, it would be wise to either vote to quit the civ or try to kill the civ as fast as possible (as what thankfully happened last time) rather than waste our time playing at best, two or three more threads of watching a doomed civ die. That way we can get into the new civ that much faster and not waste everyone's time on a dead civ.

I'm bad with the details at the moment.

Okay my idea of how we ended up here is

One day a sizable dwarf mining town broke open a tome of unknown origins. Scouts were sent into the tome and found out what they can. Ended up walking into sleeping undead and when they awoke shit went down. There was fighting and the like. Then the adviser and the commander made a plan to make peace. They would leave this tome and area if they would help them find a place to live. A deal was made and the Katonine with Scourgers set out to find a place.

We got the keep, but in was in a warzone ... We should of made a better deal with them. After another try we got the undead to give us temp protection for a few generations. That way we will have a chance in the area and they can keep their tome.

The beardlove clan have been master Brewers since the dawn of dwarfdom. Throughout time none have been able to match the distinct shroomy richness, or the dark, dank, cave like aroma that comes from a freshly cracked cask.

It was told that from every batch, they must pour a whole cask on to the ground, to keep the dead happy.

Generation upon generation passed, all heeding the words, passed down from father to father, until one snot nosed whelp ruined it for everybody and stopped... The greedy bastard... So they came.. For drinks.

Apparently the undead have been leaving money for all of the booze the whole time, and hundreds of years ago, somebody forgot to pick it up... Stories get changed.. You know.

The undead are super cool, and only wanted booze, and paid hansomly and after collecting a 300 year old bar tab, the newly wealthy dwarven ale masters son and his undead friends set out in search of adventure!

>Strength before weakness - All men are weak at some time in their lives. The Radiant protects those who are weak, and uses his strength for others. Strength does not make one capable of rule; it makes one capable of service.

>Journey before destination - There are always several ways to achieve a goal. Failure is preferable to winning through unjust means. Protecting ten innocents is not worth killing one. In the end, all men die. How you lived will be far more important to the Almighty than what you accomplished.

Maybe it likes Thomas better than Jim. The reason for Bastion is I'm using the style of naming for peoples profession. In this case his families "profession" was taking in people, like the bandits in Post Apoc, and making something of them. It's how his blood line made it so far in this mess. They turn what people discarded and made true fighters out of them. Helped them find their way in this land bathe in blood.

>>36715820
Alright so we still need a name then.

I vote Thomas Bastion. For looks, sex >>36714196 and detail a mix of above as well as from >>36714196.

... huh I guess adding into this the undead were some of the people in the past saved by them. They came back from the dead at the cost of tainting the land. Seeing the this land is already in a bad spot they viewed it an okay cost. Although there are new dead in the ranks a good chuck of the old ones still remain.

The Katonine monsters saw our deeds and with some luck we swayed them to join us for a time. At the cost of some people taking care of their needs from time to time. If they view us people they can truly live with they may stay longer.

The Dwarves are the hard ones ... Maybe they're the reason we went rogue. We wanted to make something under our own power or for love of a lady. We needed to earn the respect of her father, the leader of a grand mountain fortress. So we made our calm in this bloody land and held it for some time. Well fighting we made friends of Dwarven Alchemists who wanted the chance to study the undead. They tried for the Katonine, but they were having none of that. The troopers were some people we help lost in the this land. To repay our kindness a few stayed and turned out they knew the alchemists.

Once that was done we headed back to our lover in the mountains. The father not to happy with us, a human, marring his daughter made us agree to having his men watch over us. That's how the sappers and shooters came to us. The daughter's friend a runesmith wish to join her in this land, mainly for the chance at new ideas for crafting.

That's what I got so far. Thoughts and ideas?

I have an idea

For eons this land has known not but war and death. Fathers and avenging sons, greedy kings and wayward warriors. All fighting to clam the prize this land holds. For the one who wins this land wins with it the well of ascension. When bathed in the well you become unto a god. The fight for this prize is not an easy one, not only must you fight all those that want it's power but also the dark creature the claimed the power last.
But you are different. You the professed hero of ages. Not only do you match all legions of this lands savior but have an ability to rule and command like none other. Men and monster alike follow you with such dedication that not even death can stop there loyalty.

(What do you guys think?)

That's way I'm throwing the idea out that we went rogue for love or as a way to make our own mark on the world. It will allow for a long line of nobility, but give reason why we would leave it behind or not have all the back up behind it.

Then there's just our dad was a dick and kick us out. We will show him what power we have and come back badass.

Yes could work...the old in setting mythos i had for this particular individual allows for much breathing room between those who wear earn the title.

Some are heroes.

Other are villains.

Some became champions for kings or peoples.

While others used it forge their own Empires.

The one who is known throughout the Wargarde is the mythic figure known as simply as The Legendary General(which is the rough translation for everyone there).

He(or even a She) who appears every once in awhile sometimes very similar to the previous or vastly different.

Each and every one however has been noted for their mastery of warfare.

Anything more then that however is can be different. Whether they are a fearsome overlord, a warrior without peer, or anything else really. The one thing that ALL those who were known as THEE Legendary General is they ALL shared the mastery of war.

Besides that they could vary a LOT.

Little is known about them, what they do, who they are, or even why/how the appear. The only thing known as that when one appears(whether legit or not) WAR always follows. Whether the war was there to begin with who knows?

It is said that so long as The Legendary Generals exists in spirit or actual being Wargarde will remain free but so to will it remain entrenched in constant warfare that is its namesake.

Holy crap i didn't think I would still have these old notes...

According to previous chosen material your Legendary General is akin to either the Overlord archtype or the Champion Commander.

Thanks to your votes in regards to wanting to be the 'good guy' I will say this.

You are the the Championing Commander type Legendary General. Your predecessor was an Overlord type. The only evidence you have of this is the Scourges who apparently served your predecessor. They know a bit about him.

At the risk of sounding 4chan, that could totally fit into the autism spectrum. Eh...something like that.

dude was REALLY into fighting and leading to such a degree everything else suffered.

Despite being of nobility and the talent for magic that it usually entails he decided leading hunts and beating the ever living shit of people was much better.

Despite being reasonably a noble who could afford studies he didn't much have the patience for it...

Suffice to say it didn't take long for his family to ship him off to the army and as a noble born the troops never bothered to inform him of uh...certain matters.

They just figured he was really uptight or a prude with a bad sense of humor on that sorta thing...while he was actually legit clue less.

There you go enjoy your trio of assassin with a adviser whose sister is your centaur mount.

Anyway one's name is Valeria the Wise aka your adviser.

Her sister Veronica is a Centaur Knight who is specialized in using the bow and lance. After getting set up for an assassination she has been on the run and eventually joined up with her sister.

meanwhile in the shadows lurks a certain figure cursing about George. Formerly a 'royal' assassin who was SUPPOSE to kill the knight 'traitor' then...things happened after she caught up and stuck around ever since.

...for some strange reason ever since pursuit died away and certain individuals suffer 'accidents' or persons are 'caught' like spies or would be assassins...

Really quite lucky and has totally has NOTHING to do with the strange shadowy person whose been hanging around lately...

Supposedly you may even prove to be the next 'Legendary General'. The one who is known throughout the Wargarde is this a mythic figure said to arise during times of all consuming war either that which threatens all of Wargarde...or even something else entirely.

Some are heroes.

Other were villains.

Some became champions for kings or peoples.

While others chose to forge their own Empires.

Besides that they could vary a ton.

Now how do you know you are a candidate for this Mythic figure who hasn't been seen in such a long time?

The reason is simple.

For you see while you were on the run for being a 'traitor'(see holding true to a promise you made to a worthy adversary) the previous servants of your potential predecessor sought you out.

That is how you found this out and also that your predecessor was an apparently evil Overlord. These undead former minions known as Scourges now serve you.

During your time attempting to escape from being hunted down and killed by your former allegiances amazingly enough those of whom you fought and slain their commander in honorable battle TOO sought you out. They later saved you along with what remained of your loyal forces after having been trapped and nearly slaughtered.

They did NOT forget what you did for them after dueling their leader in a fight to the death and then holding true to the promise of allowing his troops to depart in safety after the long.

They were now repaying that mighty debt and have come to serve you as thanks. In that regard their aid greatly replenished your forces. Finally when you were departing your forces while resting from both the long fleeing and the near slaughter then saving were attacked by monsters. Things looked grim...until you made words with some of the monsters.

Amazingly enough they joined you despite how poor the seemingly odds were...you were all proven wrong. As that was when suddenly vile undead suddenly appeared flanking the monsters. Even worst those these powerful undead slew quickly rose up to join their killers to fight their former comrades.

They along with your forces and the turned monsters took advantage driving them off...that was when the undead leader known as Wuz Vaerog spoke to you about your potential along with joining up with your forces.

After resting you took your forces traveling to an old keep with some nearby sorry hovels. Here you remain still for now.

Grunts(human). Equipped in light leathers and a basic melee weapon. Strong, tough, but rather dim witted and poorly armored.

Clerics(human). Garbed in robes and breastplate with a few weapons and staves among them. They can offer a number of spells as well.

Dwarven Runesmiths. A detachment of the mighty runesmiths and their strange magics. Very potent but time consuming.

Dwarven Alchemists. Lightly garbed(gotta run when something abut to go boom) but equipp with a number of interesting concoctions. Poor fighters but they do have such interesting tricks...

Dwarven Troopers. Typical dwarven troops all garbed in the legendary dwarven steel. All armored heavily wielding thick short blades and shields. Has few other weapons available like spears and axes but not enough to equip all of themselves with it.

Dwarven Shooters: Equipped in lighter steel rainments they are noted for their deadly aim of their crossbows and when the enemy closes in on them mighty strange devices that belch fire, smoke, and metal before engaging with pikes.

Foxy Katonines(monster) a group of monsters led by Falon who were persuaded to work with you. Its worth noting that they all have many lives and for each life they lose they get even stronger. One can determine this by how many tails they possess. For each tail they have they have lost a single life. Eventually though they DO die when they use them all up.

These ones are special even among their kind for their trickery, magic, and cunning.

Scourges(Undead): Elite special undead who are rare, powerful, and very old.

Are noted for their ability that upon slaying something they will later rise up joining them, their foul touch that spreads necrosis to the living, and the necrotic plague they carry which infuses their surroundings with necromantic energy both empowering the undead and harming the living.

led by Wuz Vaerog and their equipment leaves much to be desired as they appear to be rotting garments, corroded armor, and rusted weapons. Until that is you realize their gear is actually quite corrupted powerfully...
