You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Your current score for Leviathan fighting is two for two now that you managed to murder the hell out of the one that killed Citrine's parents. You were also able to save Emeraude, though that was more of a tertiary goal.

But before you even got much of a chance to celebrate, a certain someone made an appearance...

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

>"Hey, you guys alright over there!" a man calls out. "I just took care of the ones back there so all that should be left is the pier..."
>"Yeah," you reply, waving back.

>And then you freeze when you see who it is that you were just talking to.

>"ADRIEN!?"

What!?

Along the way here, you'd mentally prepared yourself just in case you were to run into any number of people from your past, but to actually see Adrien here...

"You mean you didn't come here with him?" Emeraude says as she points to the blonde-haired swordsman. "I mean, he was killing those monsters and -you- were killing those monsters so I just assumed that you were working together."
"N... no," you shake your head. "I had no idea that he was even..."

<happy?>

"Wow, you actually took care of this thing on your own?" Adrien asks, kicking the corpse of the Leviathan a few times before he walks over to where the two of you are standing.
"He sure did!" Emeraude chirps. "You shoulda been there, Adrien!"
"Doesn't look like I needed to be..." he trails off while looking at her face. "...you're one of the girls from the Boss's place, right?"
"Yup, I'm Emeraude!" she says, smiling at him. "And this guy here," she points to you, "is the one who saved my life! I bet you're as surprised to see him here as I was!"
"Er, maybe?" he shrugs. "Is this guy someone that I should know?"

It's been nearly a decade since you last saw each other, it's no surprise that he wouldn't recognize you.

"Yeah," you say as you unfasten your scabbard from your belt and hold it up for him to see. "Remember this?"

Adrien covers his hand over his mouth, it seems like the realization's hitting him pretty hard.

"Oh God..." he takes a deep breath. "I can't believe it's actually YOU, man!" he says, slapping his hands over your shoulders. "Just look at you, you're almost as tall as I am now!"

We're already pretty sure it's going to be like herding particularly thick-headed, promiscuous cats, so I'd much rather we not make it any harder than it's going to be.

That, and we still mostly like the guy, even if he's prone to acting like he was a protagonist being played by a precursor alternate-universe version of /tg/.

is it wrong of me to imagine a world where Reinhold and Luci get married, she dies from a disease or something months/years later, Reinhold hangs around Marconetti in depression while her family tries there best to console him. Then one day Queen Marrianne arrives with a proposal for Celestio, he gets the marriage he always wanted to bind the royal families together if she gets to marry Reinhold. Secretly she loved him all these years but never did anything because Lucinia was her BFF, but after seeing how he fell apart without her she decides to do what is necessary for the only boy she ever loved and because she promised Luci before she died that she'd look out for him when after she was gone. Taking care to avoid the various (large) pieces of wreckage and the occasional Leviathan corpse as you go, the two of you make it to the pier in record time. The startling crash of thunder that occurs just as you make it there is more of a hazard than anything else, to be honest.

There should be a moment like this in the VN where visual effects of cogs turning can be seen, and when it clicks into place, confetti falls over the text box with 'NO SHIT' scrolling across on a banner.

And then it vanishes just as suddenly.

"Huh. What was that just now?"

I can't wait for him to give his new niece some Aquaman hugs. Knowing Karel she'd be too terrified to refuse.

Yeah, but between the physical simliarties and Nikalaus's observation and Ariane and Gregory's weird ways of talking about "Adrien", he should have figured something was up. And that that something was Adrien = Raoul
>>
>>36696028

"Tell me about it," Adrien grumbles. "Way to give me away, Arnaud."
"Er," Arnaud is taken aback. "Well nobody's seen you in a DECADE and then you suddenly appear in CATENO of all places!"

Arnaud seems to be every bit as exasperated as you are right now.

"So you're seriously..." you point at him.
"Yeah, yeah," he sighs. "Raoul Philippe Adrien Granache, second Prince of the Kingdom. So you can keep on calling me Adrien since it actually -is- my name."

Like that matters at all.

"He gave up any claim to the throne, shirking his duties in order to pursue a life of adventure," Arnaud says, shaking his head in a disapproving manner.
"Yeah, yeah," he rolls his eyes. "We can talk about how much I suck later so why don't you use that electric sense of yours to find out where the rest of those sea serpents are before they can eat anyone else."

"This is Cateno," you say, rolling your eyes. "They're always in terror."

You want to say that this Leviathan attack was probably some sort of divine punishment onto the populace of this place for being worthless pieces of shit, but saying that kind of thing out loud will only serve to get you started on a rant that you don't much care to go on right now.

"But anyways, you sigh, "Ariane and Sir Gregory will probably hunt you down if you try to run off instead of coming home so I suggest that you don't do that."
"Uh... I wasn't?" Adrien shrugs. "Like I told you before, I'm here to lend my support after what happened in Marconetti. This -is- my home, after all... but why would those two be -that- pissed at me?" he asks.

"I guess I will," Adrien shrugs. "Now let's go and tell the villagers that it's safe to come out," he says, motioning for the two of you to come along.

It's the absolute last place that you wanted to see again, and a sick feeling wells up in your stomach as you walk closer to the building that once served as your home.

"Hey!" Adrien calls out, seemingly facing the roof of the brothel. "Boss, you still up there!?"
"I sure as fuck am!" the voice of THAT MAN shouts back. "That spell won't work to protect this place unless they can see that I'm a target, right?"

Sanctuary... yeah, you guess that would make sense.

"Well we killed all of them so it's safe to come out!" Adrien shouts.
"Wha- you ain't just screwin' with me, are you!?"
"Nope, me and some other guys took care of them!"

You guess he refrained to mention you by name on purpose.

"Well come on in!" he laughs. "I'll meet you inside!"

You hear a door on the roof slam shut as Adrien and Arnaud head towards the front door of the building.

"You coming?" Adrien asks.

It lets us ditch this shithole for good, and it means that Adrien isn't making any excuses for us or some bullshit just to spare the 'poor feelings' for the Boss and the rest of the brothel.

We don't need to tell them ourselves. All we need is for them to know that we hate their guts and all the time that's passed hasn't changed a damn thing about those feelings.

Adrien remarking that 'Reinhold would have come in, but the Sanctuary spell wouldn't let him pass' gets that message across just fine without us skulking around outside like a stalker.

Sounds alright but for the technicality that the Sanctuary only cares about the caster, so it leaves infinity Spinelle rationalization wiggle-room.

Still a fine thing for him to mention. The Boss was at least a little wistful about Reinhold every now and again when he got drunk, but I think he probably deserves to know how bad things really were according to the largest possible outside observer.

I just dont see Rein dropping her off and saying bye, he knows how alone she must feel and we are in a posistion to help or at least know people who can.
>>
>>36696802
He'd come visit her at the orphanage, or wherever we drop her off. And he wouldn't be a flake about it, like Adrien.
>>
>>36696788
She's gonna come bolting after us, whether that happens now or later depends on whether she'll get enough of a head start to beat Adrien and Arnaud back to the wyvern.
>>
>>36696795
Pretty much. Close ties always cloud judgements.

"You ruined my life!"
"Ah, you're just being a crybaby like always."

If the Boss heard it from us, he'd just dismiss us as ungrateful and melodramatic. Hearing it from an outside source makes for less of an emotional filter to dampen the truth of the claim.
>>
>>36696746
And we have plenty of contacts that can give her a good home or find a place for her.
Rein isn't father material at the moment.
>>
>>36696801
It's not bad, but it's a little anti-climactic for Rein to come so close to confronting his past after so much build up for it to simply not happen.
>>
>>36696766
Extremly short -Meanwhile, in the brothel- interlude please arch, I want to see the boss and spinnelle get reked.
>>
>>36696806
Then we ignore her, she is nothing to Rein.
>>
>>36696805
Yeah, it's not like we have a history of relegating our friends to the sideline whenever it suits us.

>>36696821
I imagine Adrien and Arnaud are gonna talk about it when they come back.

And then they grill us about our reasons for hating them and Cateno cease to exist two hours later.
>>
>>36696824
>still gets PTSD nightmares when confronted with anything sexual
>nothing
You might want her to be nothing but it's bullshit to pretend that she actually is. You can act stonefaced faced all you want but she'll call your bluff by reaching for your crotch and watch you freak the fuck out.
>>
>>36696824
This. Seriously, what were you guys wanting from a confrontation with her? Yelling at her will only confirm to her deluded, self-centered mind that 'See? I'm under your skin. You still care. You wouldn't be mad if you didn't care about me!'

The only way our interaction with her would give us any solace and get across to her that we hate the shit out of her and want nothing to do with her would thus be to ignore her. I'd say ditching Cateno without ever seeing her once gets that across damn well.
>>
>>36696841
That doesn't give Reinhold any closure
>>
>>36696840
We're trying to work our way OUT of the PTSD. Confronting her while it's still fucking us up inside isn't going to help, it's just going to make it worse.
>>
>>36696818
Sure, but it makes sense IC. Returning to Cateno, Rein found that it was the still same hellhole he left behind. Saving a orphan from ending up potentially having to whore herself out to survive like Citrine and getting revenge is all Rein could want from the place. Plus facing the past is never easy and Santuary gave him a easy way to avoid it.
>>
>>36696849
You can't have closure with people this fucked up. They'll always rationalize it away.

Only thing there is to do is go back to Luciana and slowly work our way up to heterosexual sex in the missionary position with just a bit of bondage.
>>
>>36696854
That's irrelevant, the scenario anon posited was Spinelle confronting us, not the other way around.
>>
>>36696849
Neither does spamming the trauma button.

What, you think exposing Reinhold's only-just-now-recovering state of mind to the shit that fucked him up is going to 'make him better'?

Maybe we'll encounter Spinelle again one day, maybe. Not now. Rein isn't healthy enough for that shit.

Hell, if anything, chances are it might make him regress even further back and totally ruin his relationship with Luci.
>>
>>36696818
Maybe he doesn't need to confront them, he saved Cateno despite being the place where all the most awful shit in his life happened and now he knows that all these assholes are still stuck in this shithole while he is living it up with his friends and gonna marry a girl who loves him.
>>
>>36696840
That or Rein's bracelet just flat out murders her.
>>
>>36696872
>and totally ruin his relationship with Luci.

oh don't give them ideas
>>
>>36696840
Even if inside we are reeling, Rein needs to find the strength to ignore her. To acknowledge her just vindicates her delusions. The only time Rein gets closure is when he can overcome the damage she's done. There is no point in any interaction with her.
>>
>>36696840
She can go ahead and grope us, the semi-sentient murder crystal attuned to our mind will spike the shit out of her.
>>
>>36696766
>[2/2]

You never want to see him again.

You never want to see HER again.

Yes you could "confront your issues," but who cares about that. You've long since put that life behind you, and now you have absolutely no reason to return to that hellhole ever again.

And the further you get from the town, the better you feel... and once you spot Carina sitting on the grass not too far from the Wyvern, you make your way over to her and skid to a halt.

"Reinhold!" Carina says, happily springing to her feet. "You really did come back!"
"Well yeah," you say with a weak smile. "I -did- promise that I would, didn't I?"

As Carina hits you with her best tackle-hug, a little bit of that sick feeling in your stomach fades away.

>talk to the carina about ______

>>
>>36696886
Pretty much. Hell, you remember why she said she did it, right? So that we'd be 'hers', so that we'd 'never forget' that we 'belong to her'.

Acknowledging her just affirms her fucked up claims to us.
>>
>>36696861
Never said it wasn't in-character, I voted to avoid the brothel on most occasions simply because doing so was in character, that's why avoided calling this series of events "disappointing" because they aren't, but they certainly aren't as cathartic as I might have hoped. That's not necessarily a good or bad thing, Rein's dealing with some messed up shit and total closure isn't always the best answer, but (maybe a selfish) part of me still wants to see what would happened if he was faced with her.

"Carina..." you gently place the little girl onto the ground. "how old are you?"
"Dunno," she replies.
"...what?"

Even YOU knew how old you were, and you were an orphan just like her.

"I mean, I'm 17 years old," you say, placing a hand on your chest. "You don't know how many years old you are?"
"Uh-uh," she shakes her head. "And how much is 'seventeen?' Is that a lot?" she asks.

She... she doesn't know her numbers?

"Not too much," you reply with a long sigh.
"Is it enough years old for you to be allowed to become my new Daddy?" she asks.
"Uh-"

YES, DO IT
>>
>>36697081

"I, uh..." you look around, "I guess I'm technically old enough to become a father but I dunno if I'm really ready to become one," you say, laughing nervously.

It looks like she's about to start crying.

"B- but I promised that I'd make sure that you wouldn't have to go back to living in a box," you say, "and I intend to keep to my word! Really!"

Luciana would kill you if you tried to adopt a kid, and you're pretty sure that she's not the only one\.

"Er... do you remember your real parents?" you ask.
"I used to have a Mommy," Carina replies. "When I was real little. But then she fell in the river and that's when I had to go live in my box."
"...oh."

So her mother drowned... that's far from an uncommon thing to happen in Cateno, but you really hope that she didn't actually see it happen with her own eyes.

>[2/?]
>>
>>36697132
I'm hoping Arnaud is the one to adopt her. Because he might miss having a family from looking at everyone around him with theirs or something.
>>
>>36697145
What if she's Adrien's kid.
>>
>>36697145
If he does adopt her, that means he can raise her with grandma. And they can then be a happy family.

It will also mean that Carina becomes our aunt. Which is hilarious.
>>
>>36697145
I hope it's either Grandma or Gregory.

I get the feeling Arnaud is too damaged to try out a new family or he'd have done so already.

>>
>>36697167
I thought as much - I just didn't wanna risk being a dumbass so I went with the safe choice.
>>
>>36697132
We should ask her what she wants to do after we find her a place to live. If we can get her set on the path to becoming part of castle staff or becoming a soldier or whatever else, then that's another easy, one time thing to help build her a future.
>>
>>36697132

Time to change the subject to something more pleasant before you go and get yourself all depressed.

"Have you ever thought about what you wanted to do when you grow up?" you ask.
"When I'm a grown-up?" she repeats. "The lady at the restaurant said that I'd be able to live in that big house when I got older if I became a p... prah..."
"NO!" you shout.

As you throw your hands in the air, the little girl flinches as if you're about to hit her.

"S... sorry about that," you mumble. "But you don't want to do that. Ever."
"Why not?" she asks. "They said that I'd get to wear pretty clothes and I wouldn't hafta be hungry and-"
"It's just... bad, okay," you sigh. "Really really bad."
"'kay," she nods. "Can I be like you instead?"
"Eh?"
"You're strong enough to kill those big snakes!" she says, her eyes sparkling with wonder. "If I was like you then I wouldn't hafta be scared of NOBODY!"
"Heh..." you pat her on the back. "Maybe you can."

>"You're strong enough to kill those big snakes!" she says, her eyes sparkling with wonder. "If I was like you then I wouldn't hafta be scared of NOBODY!"

>>
>>36697165
>Gregory
He did say he'd have taken Citrine and Rein in but that was as a favor to Volker, and I doubt we're Volker-tier pals in Greg's book.
Then again, the guy's got a pretty big heart and having a new daughter might be nice for Ariane to spoil seeing as Nico's getting too old and the other kids are boys. Plus, Greg does enjoy Elena's company and they're probably aroung the same age.
>>
>>36697186
We have swordie-lust again

It seems to be a thing for little girls we meet.

She might want to learn magic as well, I guess.
>>
>>36697196
Plus Carina likes swords, so Gregory will have both a new daughter to dote on, and a daughter who actually wants to pick up the sword.
>>
>>36697186
I am halfway convinced that the town itself exists as a cultivated breeding ground of poverty and broken young girls solely to fuel the staffing needs of the brothel, and to turn boys into sad, horrible men to fuel it's need for clientele.

It's like the Matrix but with sexual slavery.

Encouraged by your words, Carina starts bouncing up and down excitedly.

"And um..." she stammers, "Can I stay with you too?"
"Well I already said that I was taking you with me," you reply.
"No," she shakes her head. "I mean can I live in your house?" she asks.
"Er..."

The place that you live isn't actually "your" house, but you're not sure how to put that in a way that won't get her depressed.

"You're not going to miss Cateno?" you say, pointing to the town.
"Uh-uh!" she shouts. "It's cold and the people are mean and it's scary at night!"
"Yeah, it sure is," you sigh. "I used to live here there too, and I don't regret leaving for even a second."
"Ehehe..." she smiles at you. "So you're just like me?"
"Well I didn't live in a box and I'm not a girl and-"
"No no noooo!" she moans. "I mean you lived there just like me and now you're strong and you don't hafta live there anymore and now you're taking me to stay with you so I really am gonna be just like you!"

Looks like she really idolizes you... you can't say that it's a bad feeling, though you don't exactly feel like you deserve it.

Slightly exasperated (and more than a little bit depressed), you explain to Carina all about the trip to the lake that your friends had planned before you ended up coming to Cateno with Arnaud. Hearing about all the food, nice people, and just fun times in general seems to get the little girl even more excited about following you home than she already was.

And then a bright flash and crack of thunder cut your conversation short. Scared out of her mind by the sudden disturbance, Carina holds onto you for dear life.

"Reinhoooooold!" she cries.

"Arnaud, this is Carina," you say. "Carina, this is Arnaud."
"H... hi, Arnaud," Carina says, smiling faintly as she waves to the old butler.
"She's a homeless orphan that I saved from one of those LEviathans, and I wasn't about to just ditch her when she doesn't have anything left... she's way to good for that shitty town," you say.
"Hm," he nods. "So she's going to be coming with us, I take it?"
"Y- you're okay with it!?" you stammer. "Just like that?"
"Well I'm naught but a lowly butler," he replies. "I don't really have any right to tell you what you should and should not do," he shrugs, "and your resolve to take this child from the slums reminds me of a certain story."

No mystery there what story he's talking about.

"Though I don't know how well Luciana will take this..." he says with a low chuckle. "I was always under the impression that taking in a child is the kind of decision that you would make as a couple."

Just as you finish explaining to Carina who Elena is, Adrien comes zooming by.

"Arnaud, I forgot just how fast you were," Adrien says, taking a few moment to catch his breath. "If Reinhold's ready to go then I guess-"
"Hey!" Carina points at him. "you're the guy who gave me a ccokie!"
"Hey, you're that little girl who I gave that cookie to!" Adrien replies, pointing back at her. "...but what are you going here?"
"She's an orphan who Reinhold's decided to take home with him," Arnaud replies. "Remind you of anyone?"
"...yeah..." he sighs. "I guess it's come full circle, huh."

Tired and anxious to get the hell away from here, you take Carina's hand as you make your way to the Wyvern, then take a seat on the harness with her in your lap. Though she's really scared of the thing, being around you seems to assuage her fears at least a small bit. Once the two of you are secure, Arnaud and Adrien get on as well.

"Miss Carina, are you ready to say goodbye to Cateno?" Arnaud asks.
"Yup!" she chirps. "And I never wanna come back!"

Echoing her sentiment, you give her a hug as the Wyvern begins to flap its massive wings. Slowly, you're lifted in the air, picking up speed until the town looks small enough to crush in your hand.

You think you see the faint speck of a woman trying to wave you down as you soar past, but you pay it no mind.

Given she ran out trying to flag us down, I really hope she was distraught at the realization that what she did to us is ultimately what made her lose us completely and that was her trying to apologise.

What she did was fucking inhuman, but it feels like it was a result of a broken person trying to cling to one of the few people who didn't make her feel like hell, so I'd be in favour of emotionally painful redemption for her.

Also Citrine seems a good choice, she's good at talking to lots of people, even if there might be an element of people coming to console her and Luci over our worries. Probably the only interaction we could get out of her that wouldn't have damaging effects on Reinhold is her apologizing profusely if she realizes she hurt us badly in her selfish and misguided efforts not to lose us. And frankly that could come in a probably poorly spelled letter.

Of course, given she knows where we are now, there's a small possibility of her making the trip at some point in the story. If the Boss really did think of us in a fucked up semi fatherly way like his weepy HE WAS IN MY WILLLLLL behaviour implies, he might even approve of something like that especially since Spinelle won't be making much money while she's a weepy mess like that, too much of a niche appeal

Okay yes, maybe it does feel like a let down to some that Spinelle never happened. Maybe Reinhold chickened out on confronting them, maybe he was scared. Or maybe after realizing that despite his attitude about the whole thing he still hated them deeply enough that a Sanctuary kept him out that it was for the best. That part of his life was something he chose to leave behind, even if he can't forget what happened its a part of him he said goodbye too a long time ago. Maybe after all the build up it sucks to not get a confrontation, but honestly sometimes you can get over something without having to confront the one who caused it.
>>
>>36698202
Yeah, I'd at least like to hear how she reacted to mention of us and our actions/circumstances/the fact that we were blocked by the sanctuary from Emeraude and Arnaud, possibly mentioned to a concerned Citrine. That way we can hopefully get some sort of schadenfreude from hearing how distraught she was from losing us and basically getting confronted with exactly how much she hurt us.

Yeah, yeah, doesn't make the fact that we just got handed a case of blueballs with a twelve month build up.

With all the importance that was heaped on the Spinelle issue it seems like the story just got a chapter arbitrarily sliced out. I could understand if it was a now/later choice but a now/never choice makes the story seem flat out incomplete.
>>
>>36698328
I wonder if people would have voted differently if they knew.
>>
>>36698216
It's a strange mix of emotions for me. After so much build up, it really just doesn't seem right that Spinelle didn't happen. Maybe it's a little cliche to have that big, climactic confrontation but there's a reason these cliches keep being used.
And while it doesn't quite sit right with me, I don't feel particularly disappointed. I don't feel robbed or cheated, I'm quite happy with the resolution and I'm proud of Rein. I'm not angry with the players because there was no in-character reason to confront Spinelle. I'm not mad with Arch for not forcing Spinelle harder because it's a quest and the biggest choices should be left up to the players.
I guess it's some sort of mix between relieved and underwhelmed, but in a good way. Sort of like when you're prepared for something horrible and it goes smoother than you expected, which, I'd guess is pretty much how Reinhold's feeling right now.
>>

>>
>>36698370
I didn't want the train wreck as much as I wanted whatever girl we'd chosen to put Reinhold back together again after the train wreck.
>>
>>36698387
Arnaud and Adrien were right there. Reinhold couldn't have killed her even if he wanted to.
>>
>>36697788
>You think you see the faint speck of a woman trying to wave you down as you soar past, but you pay it no mind.

This seems to suggest that by freely choosing to walk away Reinhold has been able to let go of some of the trauma; it doesn't have to be important to him anymore and isn't worth his time.

>>36698370
The fact that we asked Arnaud to make it clear we couldn't get in through the sanctuary because we hated BOTH of them too much for what they did to us is probably going to sting quite a bit.
>>
>>36698359
>I guess it's some sort of mix between relieved and underwhelmed, but in a good way. Sort of like when you're prepared for something horrible and it goes smoother than you expected, which, I'd guess is pretty much how Reinhold's feeling right now.
I think that's a pretty accurate estimation of how Rein probably felt, yeah. I imagine he had nothing but dread over the idea of going back to Cateno, but he went because he wanted to do something for Citrine to at least make up for how horrible her life was back then. He honestly had no other motivation for going to Cateno outside of avenging Citrine.

Hell, he had to frequently remind himself, 'oh yeah, and help people here, I guess'. There was no love for the place, no desire or hope for reconciliation or redemption. He just wanted to get in, gank some Leviathans, and get the fuck out of there. Hell, you could even tell he was forcing himself to go to the brothel with Adrien. I'd imagine he was both amused and relieved that the Sanctuary stopped him.

Ultimately, Reinhold didn't want to have the encounter, that much is clear. And while the melodrama might have been entertaining on some level, ultimately I'd say taking one last look at the place and saying 'okay, I did my good deed for the place, now I'm done with it for good' is the most ultimately cathartic thing for the character.

Thinking you have to face the person who wronged you is guaranteed to 'help you mend' or 'give you closure' every single time is naive. Sometimes it's not that simple. Sometimes it's the outright opposite of what a person needs to recover.

The greatest way for Reinhold to avenge himself emotionally for all the things that Cateno did to him is to live an even better life than he had back there, and to be a better person for it. By doing so, he might be able to actually give a shit about his own well-being for once, which is ultimately his true damage.
>>
>>36698395
Still Reinhold isn't a slouch and if he got any separation from them at all, there would be murder charges. Doesn't take much to kill a normal person when you can go toe to toe with half dragons.

>>36698390
I'd like to see that too, But Luci on a warpath would be slightly terrifying especially if she chose to clue the others in. Cateno might very well need saving again.

>>36698397
That said I do want to hear their reactions from Arnaud or Adrien. Or a short interlude.
>>
>>36698397
>a woman trying to wave you down
I'm going to choose to interpret that as frantic and desperate.
As soon as The Boss told her Rein was with those guys who just left, she cracked and went full "MUH REINHOLD, MUH BABY!", screaming her way to the rooftop and shrieking with a face drenched in tears as the wyvern flew on by.
>>
>>36698390
The problem is that that path comes with the risk of Spinelle breaking him so bad that it becomes even more difficult to fix him again, which would potentially ruin his relationship with said chosen-girl.

Imagine if that fuckwit who assaulted Mari would get another moment alone with her and then grabassed her yet again. You think we'd be able to 'fix' that shit more easily because it happened again, or would it be harder than ever because she'd retreat even further into herself?
>>
>>36698395
To be fair, if we explained any of the situation I'm pretty sure Arnuad would have hid the bodies for us while Adrien looked the other way in shame for leaving us in that hellhole.
>>
>>36698447
See I don't think so. Pretty sure we'd be tried for murder and lose our job even if found innocent. Some lines are too far to cross.
>>
>>36698446
Yeah, I agree that both the Mari and Reinhold case would strengthen their shells, but that only makes it more gratifying when someone breaks through. A good story needs a few setbacks.
>>
>>36698419
A large part of the trauma seems to be associating intimacy with getting hurt. Putting distance between himself and his past and forming contrary associations is probably among the best ways to overcome that. The only good that could come from any interaction or contact regarding Spinelle is if she showed genuine remorse and begged for forgiveness or to apologise, which would potentially help break the associations of malice and power respectively and diminish the monster in our mind. Of course, if that's how she was reacting to hearing about us, then we can probably get some mental healing and a dash of bittersweet satisfaction just by being told about it either by Arnaud/Adrien or Citrine after she asks how things went. She would probably get cheered up hearing about that as well, come to think about it.
>>
>>36698480
Thing is it could easily break Reinhold, in the now he's certifiably insane..... OHMYGODWHATAREYOUDO- urgh *what squelching noises* kind of way. Despite his kind heart the kid is about a hop skip and a jump from being a monster. I mean look at what happened to him when Mari got accidentally peached.
>>
>>36698480
Perhaps, but we're in the last part of the story. The time it'd take to unfuck any extra damage Spinelle might have done would take longer than we have.
>>
>>36698506
Reinhold may be damaged, and he may be a borderline psychopath. I still do not think he'd be a danger to anyone but himself and those who hurt his friends.
>>
>>36698549
Sure, but what happens if his friends hurt his friends?
>>
>>36698549
Thing is he goes into a rage like several other heroes or psychopaths that distinction will matter fuck all. Heracles anyone?
>>
>>36698549
What if his friends get in the way of him hurting the people who hurt his friends?
>>
>>36698564
>>36698577
He'd calm the fuck down
>>
>>36698589
Oh no. We'd critfail that composure roll. I don't care if we aren't rolling anymore, but since you're talking about playing Reinhold after he passed his breaking point I very much doubt there'd be anything other than sufficient force that could stop him in that moment.
>>
>>36698589
Or he'd just go through them not understanding what he did til after the fact. He has more or less Volker's temper which terrified everyone who saw it, even Greg and Agnes. As he is he might calm down. Any more damage to his psyche might very well make throw the fine distinctions out the window. Lord knows they are maybe 3 people of this generation who could stop him if he went berserk and most of their options would be lethal by necessity.
>>
>>36698469
Yeah, as justified as Rein might have been in the scope of things, shivving unarmed civvies with no immediate provocation when you're on a royal mission to save people from a disaster is a huge fucking no-no.
And, assuming we successfully killed or maimed Spinelle (which I'm assuming any attack would be), with Arnaud present and utterly unaware of who Spinelle is, it would have proved Rein to have unpredictable, violent tendencies that even the Palace's top-top-top guy cannot control, basically, the sort of person who you can't every fully trust, which is the last kind of person you want intimately around VIPs with no supervision.
>>
>>36698632
This is why I'm very glad we avoided the confrontation when it became unnecessary.
>>
>>36698632
Pretty much my thought processes exactly. Hell Arch even said confronting her would likely mess us up even worse. This is endgame I don't think Rein has the SAN to spend on that bullshit right now. Besides we all know the picnic is going to be attacked while Greg and Arnuad are away.I mean both the fastest responders gone? Way too easy a target.
>>
>>36698680
Greg is away?
>>
>>36698680
Yeah, confronting Spinelle would have been more entertaining but worse for Rein overall.
>>
>>36698698
Yeah remember he said he couldn't attend the picnic cause he had to go away on a diplomatic mission or some such? With him and Arnaud away that only leaves Vincent(whos too slow to catch a fast attack and is at his home) and Rana as the heavy hittters who could deal with this. honestly if I were to go after Lucianna in Granache the time would be now. Snipe Rana so she's either dead or disabled and bum rush Takamaru, Sylvie, Reya, Karel and Luci. Mari would freeze up and go down pretty easily, Nicolette is only a skilled warrior easily death via magic, Citrine And her hubby are civvies as is Melanie, Emilio is no threat and Elena is a kid. Karel is going to have her work cut out for her if they play it smart.

>>36698714
Especially since Killing people is already old hat to Reinhold. He's never once hesitated to kill someone.
>>
>>36698741
Or just lure Rana away with a honey pot.
>>
>>36698680
The picnic was apparently never meant to get huge, and they do still have Karel, Luciana, Nicolette, Sylvie, and Takamaru who can all get Incredibly Dangerous. Also, if Elena brought Inaba it would be a hilarious opportunity for her to suddenly finish that whole "ascending" jazz and start doing Magical Bunny Girl stunts.

>Reinhold and co arrive to the picnic to find several subdued kidnappers and an unknown girl with rabbit ears hastily getting wrapped in a picnic blanket
>Welcome to the capitol, Carina! It's basically like this.
>>
>>36698714
>more entertaining but worse for Rein overall.
And which one would have been better for PGQ as a whole I suppose we'll never know.

>>36698741
Just because Rein's used to killing doesn't mean confronting Spinelle would definitely ended in her murder. It's a possibility (maybe even a risk) we'd have to have taken into account if we elected to go down that route but it wasn't a foregone conclusion.
>>
>>36698764
She's got heart set on Sylvie at the moment and I doubt she's dumb enough to shirk her job for a way too convenient honeypot.

>>36698768
True they are dangerous but if they have more than one stealth hit Next would be Takka, and the masked man can easily handle him one on one. Luci is dangerous but she a glass cannon a well thrown rock could drop her. Sylvie is strong but she isn't a killer. A trained fighter/assassin can take advantage of that. Karel would put up a good fight but she up against devil children contractors and half dragons. She going to have issues on the strength and magic front. Same thing for Nicolette. Even if Inaba does conveniently ascend shit is still going to rough. That being said I do hope it turns out well, and the bad guys aren't thinking it out that well.

>>36698782
I was addressing his pic about the dead bodies. There are 3 ways I could see the confrontation going down.
1. We break down again (san loss and possibly bad end due to insanity)
2.We go after her.( variable ways this could paly out but none of them really helping Rein)
3. We call her out and tell her off (best option but it'd still have consequences)

I'd also honestly expect Arch to have us due a composure roll cause Rein has a lot of issues to be dealt with due to her.
>>
>>36698833
Rana is also there, so they do have a dragon on hand as well. I can't remember if Reya was tagging along too.
>>
>>36698858
He was, but any halfway competent attack will involved nuking Rana as the surprise attack. Best way to take out a dragon is kill it while in human form before the fight starts proper. Reya would likely fight well but again if he gets outnumbered in a fight where everyone is either as strong as he is or a hell of a lot more magical he's in trouble.
>>
>>36698833
>I'd also honestly expect Arch to have us due a composure roll
I couldn't imagine a confrontation without a composure roll. We could have ended up Peachesx1000
>>
>>36698890
Peaches at one nearly broke Reinhold a 1000 would end definitely be bad end to insanity or body count. Or both.
>>
>>36698904
>As Reinhold stood over the Spinelle multi-punctured and jittering cadaver, only one thought filled his mind.
>"All I wanted to do today was go on a picnic..."
>>
My only regret is that we didn't tell "AND FUCK YOU MOST OF ALLLLLLLLL" as we were flying out of there.

But other than that, good job, you handled that pretty well, /tg/. I miss 90% of threads because they run at 3am in the morning.
>>
>>36698963
Yup, Though the picnic would be about as peaceful as the fights with the leviathan were. We all know it's going to get attacked while we're away.

>>36698988
Yeah i went to bed when the thread started and woke up as it was ending. Kinda tweaked i missed all but the first vote, but i got no real regrets.
