It doesn't take long for the wolfgirl to tire herself out.

You're no stranger to the kind of exhaustion that emotions bring- Whether you released the weight or built it upon yourself, the sensations when all was said and done stayed the same.

And you've no doubt that poison has made it that much easier for her to wear herself out.

You hold Sheszka for a while, smoothing her hair, stroking her head, humming a soft, tuneless sound. Letting her know that you're there. That you won't be gone when she wakes.

Her breathing slows and evens, and you take the opportunity to tuck her back in amongst the blankets.

You will keep her safe.

Your family is buzzing around- some with worry, and some with a morning's standard business. The world is still turning, and food is something that won't produce itself.

You step close to your Mother, and beckon Lann over as well, keeping your voice low.
You don't want Sheszka waking so soon.

"Do either of you know how long it would take to make a boat? Or how long we have?"
Your Mom shakes her head.
"I can't speak about boats, yes? But for the poison... A week. Maybe two. Probably two, actually. She did not seem ill last night?"
"Not more than being struck. You checked her, yes?"
"Mmmm. Probably two weeks, then. She is strong, and. Well. If the poison had been bad... You would have known."

Lann nods.
"They'll probably rush the boat for you- If nothing else, they might sell ou one they already have. The local carpenter isn't anywhere near Mikhail, but- It's a logging town. There's wood and workers. Three to four days seems fair."

>Maybe you can head to town. Help out. If nothing else, you can make silk for trade.
>Is Lann going to come with you?
>Take a minute and hunt something. There's a knot in your shoulders and your stomach and you just need to break something.

If they have a boat, we will still need to embark upon it... Also, we could drop Lann off back at the guild. The healers we are going to apparently don't like humans, and seeing as she is half human, she might not get the warmest welcome... Hell, we might no even get a welcome... But no need to risk Lann on our mission. We can ask her, but I feel that leaving her back at the guild with a promise to return to show her the forest is best...

>Is Sara going to come with you?
Adding that idea, in case this would be the moment, although I think Sara will come with us anyway.
>>
>>36742415
The issue is probably more that the boats they have are made for humans. Boats for river fishing aren't exactly huge, and we might simply either be too heavy or not fit on it.
>>
>>36742424
When we come back, we're getting Elle and dad to make her some wizard robes.

Asking Lann and Sara, readying a trip to the village!
Writing!
>>
>>36742436
If there is just no suitable boat, then it's moot. But if there is one, and they refuse to sell/rent it for some reason, we just take it. We'll be very apologetic about it and pay far more than it's strictly worth when we get back, but our friends life is worth more than a boat and waiting most of a week could be fatal.
>>
>>36742496
If Sara seems hesitant at first, tell her about all the magical items we could come across on our adventures. And she can study all she wants with the healers! I'm sure they're magical out the ass!
>>
>>36742279
>Is Lann going to come with you?
>>
>>36742510
If they have one, I'm sure they will give it to us if we pay them enough to build a new one and make up for the lost revenue. Which shouldn't be too hard for us.
>>
Now Im curious as to how direct protecting people has to be to trigger Lyras blessing.

If it needs to be standing in front of someone in a fight, then thats one thing. But if it means we have to be trying to protect someone?

Wed be pretty much invulnerable right now, wouldnt we?
>>
>>36742810
The god of protection must be pretty happy with us at any rate.
>>
>>36742810
The blessing doesn't make us invulnerable, so no.
And triggering the blessing isn't hard for Lyra as long as Sara or Nin or some other "backrow" fighter is around, it only gets "vague" when fighting with Jin and Sheszka, where we probably only get the Blessing when actively stepping in front of them.
>>
>>36742810
I think it always triggers when Lyra increases the risk of harm to herself, to reduce risk of harm to someone else, like when we went directly into that Hydras face(s) to draw its attention to us.

Doesn't make us invulnerable though.
>>
The terrible thing is, even if this ride goes without major problems, we still miss our brothers evolving.
Hopefully we at least still catch Elle in time.
>>
>>36743009
Aww...
What are your bets on their evolutions, guys.
Generic Widow, or something else and what?

Unless they have interesting adventures that we do not know of or being so in sync with one another affects their evolution, I unfortunately think they will be normal Widows.
>>
>>36743087
Probably normal widows.
Which isn't terrible, they still got there after only a month, so they have good chances to become wolf-spiders in some years.
I'm excited for Saras evolution, especially since taking her ont he forest adventure means she has good chances of getting there before Aria.
>>
>>36743122

well, Sarah already had her first evo... Aria, Zach and Ephram haven't had their first one yet...
>>
>>36743087
I expect something special coming from how perfectly they work together.
>>
>>36743159
Aria had her first evo too. She is already lvl 87 on the way to the second stage.
>>
>>36743159
Elle, not Aria.
>>
>>36743159
I think you mean Elle. Who will probably have something for weaving before Orb.
>>
Your fingers clatter over your crossed arms, chitin against chitin.
Time, time, time.

The boat will take almost a quarter of what you have. You feel... Impatient. Far more so than normal. You have to do something, anything to help to speed this along.

Oh. That's it. That's what it is.

You feel helpless.

There's an enemy you can't beat on your own. Hurting your friends. Your family. This is what frustration is.

You let out the breathe you didn't know you were holding, a hiss pouring from behind clenched teeth. You shake your head, breathing deep as your hair cascades around you.
One step at a time.

"Lann?"
"Huh?"
"Will you come with us? We'll be heading to the village shortly, yes? If you need time to think-"
"I'm an adventurer. There isn't anyone breathing down my neck to take jobs- gods, I can probably get them to pay me for just walking around the woods and telling them what I see. I'll go."
"As long as you aren't putting our home on a map, yes."
"Fair enough."

You nod, stepping away from the two of them.
"Just a few moments, and we'll be going."

Sara is sitting in her usual place, but the book in her hands isn't open.

"Are you alright?"
The little blue spider looks up, her hands knitting together over her book.
She goes to speak- Starting and stopping as she tries to organize her thoughts.

"I- I don't know."
You wait. She frowns.
"I know that's not a good answer, yes? But I don't know. I am worried about Sheszka, and I am feeling... a little scared. Of the mosters in the woods."
"It is alright to be scared, yes?"
>>
>>36743250
She waves her hands, trying to get some point across, a feeling stronger than words.
"I cannot- My magic cannot- There's nothing I can do. I can't help! I can't-"
"Noone can do everything, yes? Without you, I cannot even use magic."
"I just- I feel like I, Like I am not smart. Not good enough."

You pull close to her, throwing an arm around her and letting her hug you in turn.
"There are a great many things we can't do, yes? So we do what we can."
"Mmm."
"Will you come with us?"
"I.... Yes. I'll help. Yes."

You nod, leaning your head against hers and sighing.
"We will be leaving soon, for the village. I can't sit here and wait, yes."
She looks down to the books at her feet.

"I'll- I'll stay. For now, yes? I study. I'll be ready."
"Alright. Be well, little sister."
"We- we're the same age!"
"And I am much bigger, yes."

She purses her lips, and you muss her hair as you stand, stepping over to your slumbering wolf, neatly lifting her in your arms.
Anything that tries to interrupt your trip will be in for a bad time.

Drop Shez with Harpymom and offer to help. If nothing else, having us to lift heavy logs and fetch things can't hurt. If they need rope to lash thing together, we can provide silk.

>>

Probably more wizard tunics, spider robes would probably be heavily impractical for forest traveling.
>>
>>36743520
This is acceptable.

I mean, what ELSE are we going to do while waiting nervously?
>>
>>36743545
Sara'll have better protection. Magical protection, even when she isn't using magic.
She isn't an armor person anyways.
>>
>>36743571
We could be making small metalworks, or melt patterns into our spear.
>>
>>36743588

For some reason that made me imagine Lyra subconsciously forge-touching her spear into different shapes based on her emotions.

When she's sad, it had a lot of grooves, happy it has a bunch of swirls on the haft, angry the blade is serrated, and when FUELED BY THE BURNING HATE FOR THOSE THAT DARE HARM OUR BUTT COLLECTION it is covered in barbs and spikes that are really fucking sharp to the point where if we didn't have Chitin hands our hands would be torn apart just from holding it.

No idea why.

Probably because Lyra possesses THE STERNEST FACE and needs another way to display emotion.
>>
>>36743647

Because thats a great idea.

>>
You get things underway.

More than you intended to, really.

With Sara worried about people being hurt, you almost felt bad about how easy it was to push her into studying defensive enchantments. And what better way to start than to enchant ones own gear?

And Elle is more than happy to have a new model.

You leave the nest with the two already conspiring, hands pointing every which way as they argue over what they'll be making. You pick up speed as you leave the forest, blazing through the ruins-

At which point you turn around, head a ways back, and direct Lann to climb onto your shell. You're carrying Sheszka. There's room.

You arrive at the village in no time at all. The guards are friendly, and you're let through in moments. Such is the power of being friends with adventurers! Or at least travelling with them.

You make your way to Lia's cabin, knocking politely before letting yourself in.

The harpy looks up, her face a little stern.
"Little one. I heard there was trouble."

You nod, your lips twisting into a frown.
"Sheszka is hurt, yes? Poisoned. And we will be going into the deep woods."
"She's sending you after the wendigo?"
"Yes. Mom said- My mother said they would still be there."

The harpy tilts her head, thinking it over.
"Hmmm. Well- No. That would be right. They wouldn't leave. The woods were sacred to them."
You sigh in relief.
"I thought a boat would be best. Is there any in town we could just buy?"

Lia snorts.
"Dear, you are a giant spider. I'm afraid fishing boats might be a little beyond you."
"It was worth a try. Can I- Can I leave Sheszka with you? I want to do anything I can to help, yes? But leaving her alone..."
"Put her down on the bed, little one. I'll watch over her."
"Thank you."

You leave the cozy home one wolf fuller, heading to the river shore. Jin is probably somewhere near whomever is making the boat, and they are undoubtedly near water, so...

Days pass by swiftly.

The carpenter's name is Marek- He's from the same coastal city as Lann, surprisingly enough. He'd built wagons and such for caravans, and wound up signing onto one and travelling with them. He met his wife to be the city, and headed north when business got too competitive- He is also very fond of talking.

You get his life story more than once.

Your job, for the time being, is simple.
You haul wood.

You haven't got the knowledge to actually engage in building- and taking the chance and damaging things is more of a risk than you are willing to take.

You can, however, Lift, drag, hold- You render pulleys and horses useless in your wake. You manage to cut a full day and a half of construction, night falling on the third day in the village as you stand before your new boat.

It isn't pretty by any means, but it'll carry everyone. You'll probably have to sit at one end, with everyone else on the other to avoid it sinking, though.

Sheszka spends the few days sleeping, for the most part. Jin hunts with her family, visiting you when she can. Nin is either on your back or in the cabin- She was more than proud to show off her ability to produce a healing dust.

It's no cure, but...
It keeps the pain away, and lets her sleep soundly.
It's something, at least.

You set out at dawn.

_________________________________________________________

Sara meets you near the river, your mother and father in tow.
She's clad in what would be a simple looking tunic- but sewn over top is a delicate looking tabard, white lace tracing runes over the blue robe. You can feel the ebb and flow of magic around it.
>>
>>36744983
Is Sara powering it, or does the robe gather power on it's own?
Speaking of which, how do simple enchantments, like higher defence or something even work?
Maybe later.

Your mother has come to see you off with a map.

"-and here the river starts to meet the lakes, yes? They are all linked, but you will be reaching this one first."
You nod.
"Are there more rapids? Somewhere further up the stream?"
"It shouldn't be a problem. As long as you start beyond the waterfall's reach, anyway."
"Mmm."

"And this is where they will be."
"The centre?"
"Their sacred woods, yes. When the trees branches close in so tight that not even light breaks through, you've arrived."

"What about monsters?"
"Keep to the shore when you reach the lakes. The river shouldn't be bad during the day."
"And around their sacred woods?"

She falls quiet a moment.
"Keep up your guard, yes? Once you stand in the lightless woods, you'll be safe. But before that..."
"Before that, not so much."
"Yes."

You nod, and she folds the map into a neat square, holding it out.
"Stay safe, Lyra."

You wrap your arms around her, holding her tight, closing your eyes.
"Mom."
"Little one."
"I love you, Mom."
"I love you very much, dearheart."

You step back. You friends, for once, aren't arrayed all over your back- You've got boat to haul, for the moment.
Sara has Sheszka, a pocket made of silk tied across her back with a sleeping wolf within.

You wave to your family, and start to walk.

The sun is starting to droop as you arrive in the clearing, and the backdrop of a red sky, and the dancing overhead makes for a rather impressive setting.
You still think that it looks better after dusk, though.

Lann is watching the swirling constellations with wide eyes, her head tilted back to catch everything she possibly can. And Sara is only too pleased to find someone impressed with star magic.

"Do you like it?"
"Eh- Oh. Sara, right? Yeah, this is amazing."
"Mhm. Mom said it's a... blessed area, yes? This one is held by the stars themselves."
"Star magic? I think there was the one mage back in the city- It's really uncommon."

Your blue little sister is very nearly inflating as you watch.

"Yes yes?"
"It's not something you see much of. Way more people with fire magic, earth magic, water magic. That sort of thing."
She turns to you with a smug impression on her face.

You just laugh.
"Lann, keep complimenting her, yes? A little more and I think she will start to float. We could scale the cliff in a heartbeat!"
You sister puffs up her cheeks in a huff, crossing her arms and trying to stomp her feet.

Which really just means that her feet get stuck as she punches them into the dirt, so she quits that pretty fast.

"Ah. Speaking of cliff, how're you planning to get everything up there?"
"I think I could climb it, and just pull everyone up. Everyone being the people without wings, yes?"

Nin, floating by with a single flap, makes a disgusted noise.
"My queen! To discriminate amongst our fellows so soon, and against those born with the gift of flight! For shame!"
"Asking people to fly who can fly is not discrimination, Nin."

"Ah, Lyra?"
"Sara?"
"Instead of making this difficult, why don't you just magic us up the cliff, yes?"
"Ah."
"It is all stone."
"Yes. That, ah. That would be a good idea."

Nin giggles, and you step closer to the cliff face, beckoning Sara and Lann to stand closer.

You close your eyes, calling out to the earth when Sara grabs your shoulder.
"Hah?"
"Put the rocks back when you are done, yes? The stars like it how it is."
You blink, then nod.

The rocks swell beneath you, a flat platform forming beneath your feet, and you can feel the rumble of earth, the grinding of stone on stone echoing in your ears.

The worlds first elevator.

Maybe not. Where there's magic, there's probably lazy wizards.
It's a start, though.

And you found something that stupid wizard couldn't do with his dungeon

Its probably not within Lyras abilities to manipulate glass like that.
She doesn't have "metal" control, she has a forge power, so anything that isn't forging, probably won't work.

All you need to do to create a mythical creature is add wings on another animal.

He.
This pic reminds me of the Gamaniol, a bird that never stopped flying. Not even to lay eggs: it would catch them in mid air and place them on its back until they hatch.
