Hi everybody, calcium and I have decided to cut down a bit on the numbers.
If any newcomers want to see the last thread, here it is http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36757237/

Summary
We are a race of machines in the iron age, with the directive of conquering the world. Last threads we set up a base, dug resources and fought with the gnolls. We're about to reach a crystal deposit and upgrade ourselves.

Build more robots
>>
Current inventory
Zero metal
Two constructor robots
4 fighting drones (one with a sword, another an unpowered void spear, and two others with unarmed training)
One scouting robot in human disguise
A few mining bots
>>
>>36763956
Buildings
One smithery
One dungeon/mine entrance
One shrine to the RNG gods

Oh, and we have a few gnoll corpses to study and one in captivity so we can research its brain.
>>
>>36763905
Mine out the ore deposit found last session. metal is required to construct machines.

>>
>>36763979
+we Gót laboratory and gnoll died when Hepheastus experimentem on his brain. We now know know hod brain works(basics)
>>
As night falls, the mining robots have finally excavated that crystal metal deposit. Hermes stands in the back while digbots 1 through 3 haul out the hunks of ore.
As the sun finally vanishes beneath the horizon and the moon soars into the sky. A query emanates from the transmission hub

I think we should scan gnolls settlment once more, last time our scanborg only counted 15 gnolls

The rising sun obscured much of Hermes's view, but from his previous scans, he was able to make do. There appear to be about 30 gnolls. They all live in shacks like those found west of the base. They also appear to have a heavy commanding of the magical powers, that shall pose problems.
The work cycle isn't over yet, we have time for one more task

Nice
How much iron one of them needs?
>>
>>36764325
While we have researched the gnolls, our knowledge is far from complete, fortunately, it's enough to build a gnoll Borg. Gathering up the metal ores, our two constructor bots begin to smelt and hammer out the iron and carefully slice up our remaining Gnoll corpses. They were going to rot anyways, might as well put them to good use.
With a great squelching and slapping, Hephaestus stealthily covers a mechanical chassis in gnoll hide while the second robot bolts the skin onto the frame.
>cont
>>
>>36764407
Same as the regular combat drone I guess. They're just meant for ambushes and shock and awe, for scouting, for speed, for routing, for fear. As the fight continues they're less valuable than the regular trooper. Good for hit and run, but not durable.
>>
>>36764421
Finally, the sun sinks into the horizon and both constructor robots have finished their job. Well have to use these Borgs quick before the flesh starts to rot. Hephaestus stretched out the skin and tanned it a bit, but that won't last forever.
Both more or less look like gnolls, some extra padding has dampened most of the clanking noises they would make, but the'll smell all wrong to the gnolls, they'll be able to tell the difference if they get too close too long. These are clearly not for diplomacy, only for an ambush.
>>
>>36764421
Now we have our stealth, we need to upgrade our heavy military, melt down the failed Logis Tertia model and recreate a large, centauroid battle robot, an automatic ballista mounted on the back, like the first Logis Tertia

>>
>>36764720
Well, things could be better. Our two constructor bots made quick work of a centaur robot. It is magnificent. Sleek pistons sliding back and forth, bolts and nuts tightened to the perfect degree. The ballista was smoothly integrated into its back with the arrows shooting out of its chest. The winch cord was positioned perfectly so that it's arms could bend back and wind it it up, and the quiver of bolts is in the perfect place as well. That's the good news. The bad news is that they used up so much metal we don't have enough to make any more robots.

Such power would prove effective in obliteration of native life forms. Lex Tertia model must be developed with most advanced techniques available

The three gnoll Borgs have been properly drilled in the art of shooting arrows and swinging swords. One of the humanoid robots even had some minor success with teaching them how to operate the metal crossbow on top of the smithery. Everyone's joints are properly oiled so that our squeaking will not alert others to our position.

You approach the gnoll settlement with the balistae and Hermes in tow. As you climb over the ridge, you finally see it. Oh Random Number Gods! How could we have been so stupid?

Mechanical eyes click and whine as they swivel across the sight in front of them. The haze of magic is thicker than what Hermes predicted. Finally, all sets of eyes, robot and Borg, refocus and determine what is in front of them.

Hermes takes a cautious step forward, still confused in the haze of arcane power. In a shimmering swirl of purple dust, the true settlement is revealed

Not a small collection of gnoll shacks, no! But a derelict wizards tower with a few shacks around it, and a wizard lurking up in the top. Fortunately, robots are slightly hidden from magic, but your magitech power source makes you slightly visible. The gnolls smell the strange scent of oil and grease and get up from their posts and start to mill about. Meanwhile, you can see through the window in the top of the tower that the wizard has noticed. He gets up from his desk and paces around before beginning to chant a spell.

The bolt goes flying and all the gnolls notice, unfortunately, so does the wizard. As the bolt whistles up to the top of the tower, the wizard has finished chanting his spell. A large purple sheen sweeps over the entire building as the bolt careens through the window. It loses a large amount of its momentum and strikes the wizard in the chest. He collapses to the floor, but stands up, bleeding, but clearly using some sort of spell to heal himself. He disappears from view, presumably running down the stairs.

Then the gnolls charge

Agreed. We must develop heavier forms of weaponry. As the main force retreats and draws the gnolls off, the stealth drones can attack the mage
>>
You all turn around and hightail it for home, leaving the Borgs behind. Thirty angry gnolls chase you down the mountain slopes. You nearly slip and fall, and there are a few brief clashes between stragglers and those who have made it farther ahead.
As you rush into the base, Hephaestus senses your panicked broadcasts and lumbers forward to shut the gate behind you.

The wizard has come out of the tower and his hands are wreathed in magical flames, that can't be good. The thirty gnolls are still pounding down the slope and will soon reach the walls. Your two Borgs are still left behind, but the wizard is too close and will see them if they attack.
>how will you act in the following attack! the gnolls are coming whether you like it or not.
>>
>>36765585
Gnoll psychological profile states their society construct is dominated by the the alpha male. The mage is recognized as one. Killing him would throw the gnolls into infighting until a new alpha male is determined by gnoll society, buying us time, preventing an organized counter attack, and lowering their numbers by a small margin as the strongest kill each other.

One of the humanoid robots scrambles to the roof of the smithery. Following orders based on psychological analysis of gnoll instinct and culture from HQ, he seizes the metal crossbow. He brings it down to bear on the Mage, his hands are still wreathed in fire and his chest wound seems to have healed. The three Borg stealthily creep out of the forest and begin to sprint to the Mage.
>>
>>36765651
Borgs stay hidden until they are behind the wizard and can sneak attack him.
>>
>Somewhere there's a gnoll civ thread where they roll to attack a machine race

>>36765725
With a loud clank, a singular crossbow bolt flies across the ground and hits the Mage straight in the chest. He is knocked down by the force of the blow. He tries to sit up, and blood gushes from the wound. The flames that wreathed his hands flicker and die.

The gnolls turn around to see that their alpha male is gone. Then they turn on each other in a frenzy of dominance, striking each other down and getting up over and over again.
>>

I think crossbow should stay on top of smithery . Much easier to shoot at gnolls

>>
Rolled 14 (1d20)

As the gnoll battle rages on between the two bases, the three Borgs sneak out to retrieve the Mage body. The robot winds up the metal crossbow and slams another bolt in. Hephaestus rushes downstairs to improve the current cell situation while the second Hephaestus tries to figure out how to make the void spear stun things.

Hephaestus hauls the gates open and Hermes slides in a new balista bolt. Centurion strides out in front of the base and proclaims "I am alpha male now." A few seem to have never learned any common and continue fighting. The biggest ones steps out of the fray seems to get it and charges at lex tertiary. He raises his sword to attack an-THUNK!
A ballista bolt hits him straight in the heart. He slumps down dead. A few bigger ones charge at him, I have no idea what they were trying to do, and four more crossbow bolts hit them, killing them.

The gnolls begin work in the mines, but we have to be careful, we didn't have much metal for chains and they might break free.
Hermes drags the Mage body off to put in the lake to preserve it.
Meanwhile, all available robots lumber up to the tower and shacks and begin to search. The gnolls had a decent supply of food, but it appears that the Mage was using his magic to make food for them. We will have to get some food to feed our slaves later. Lots of weapons are found, some metallic some flint. The wizards tower has a large supply of books about magic written in a currently indecipherable language and some magical ingredients.

Hermes was sent up to the tower to check it out, seeing as he has the best scanning equipment. He finds a hidden closet and in it, a small leather bound journal. Hermes quickly reads throughout the journal and determines that this was merely an outpost of something bigger and that north west, there is a far greater civilization.
>>
The work cycle ends. All robots huddle up in the blacksmiths while the gnolls collapse into sleep downstairs. Hermes went down and tossed out some food to them so as not to get too close.

As the sun blinks out of view behind the mage's tower, a single message emanates from the camp back to the mighty receivers of the machine empire

So far they have refined it into a rough blob of sharp edges and blades, but they are far from being able to be spun at high enough velocities to shred flesh. Hephaestus tried one of them out and just broke one of the crystals into useless shards by spinning it too fast until it Custer on the machinery and shattered.

The meatbag workforce is not a tenable solution to increased mining production. We can only hope to maximize gain and minimize loss. Killing the rising alpha male every time in front of their sight would send a clear message and destroy their social structure. Providing them with biomass from their own dead is an efficient way to keeping them content and alive. It's more productive than allocating a drone to hunting, and cooking the food should mask the scent, though the hungry would eat anything. Let's just aim to get the most out of them while they're with us.

A singular balista bolt flies out of centurion's chest, spinning as it soars across the tunnel. It hits the alpha make right in the chest. Haephestus makes the most of his nearly nonexistent chef programming and roasts the meat.
The combat drone drags the meat down to the mine and tosses it in front of the gnolls. The gnolls sniff it, confused, but a few look up with a suspicious look in their eyes. But all the same, they carefully divide it into equal pieces and devour it. Given their natural state of eating one large meal and then abstaining, that should last them about a few days.

We need to build one fight robot and some gnoll houses, so they won't live in underground their whole life

>so they won't live in underground their whole life

Calcium appears to be developing errors that manifest in counter productive sympathy. Suggesting reformat.

The new orbit for mining is fixed, Hephaestus sends it down to the minds with a pat on its head and a silent prayer of thanks to the RNG gods, slicing up those corpses on the altar probably helped.
His next plan is to fix two of the ex Borgs with the skin he peeled off.

I think he meant underground cave "living" quarters, these beings are UNDERNEATH us, so they will live as so.

Repairs go marvelously, with a little oil, some re tightening of bolts and stretching of hide, two Borgs are ready to go out with Hermes. One of the combat drones patched up the wizards hat and cloak I n his spare time and has given it to Hermes to add credibility to his disguise.
Now where do we send Hermes and his two friends?
>>
>>36768033
A direction we haven't gone yet, south or east right?
>>
>>36768033
Find some road that leads from gnoll settlement, it will bring us somewhere
>>
Sorry guys I have to go to sleep. I'll see you guys tomorrow evening, America times if you need your civ fix, one of you guys can take over, thought nodes are supposed to be interchangeable like that. Just keep the number crunching down.
>>
I assume calcium will take over again, despite having node in my name I am unfit for GM'ing
>>
>>36768090
Yeah, lets investigate that rest of that "grand civilization" talked about earlier
>>
>>36768252
I would like to but I need to get some sleep too.
>>
>>36768274
You've committed two heinous crimes, I'll have you know! One is the sin of samefagging and the other is voting for bullywugs!
>>
>>36768294
Then I guess this thread has drawn to a close for today.
You're both great GM's by the way
>>
>>36768307
Hey, that was one time!

Hasn't everyone samefagged at least once in their lives?
>>
One last note about the setting. Gnolls are heavily populous here, either as slave labor or wandering tribes. The grand civilization is decidedly anti machine, good luck with diplomacy. They're humans, not elves, so it shouldn't be that bad.
