Welcome back to Mysteries of the Atlas Quest! Last time: Niccolo invites Anai to Summer's Glade, the sanctum of the Summer court of elves. On the journey Anai picks up some new magic, and learns the elven language! The party has stopped at an abandoned farmhouse for the night before the final leg of the journey.

Meanwhile, Victor, Necromancer and Huntsman of the Empire, plots his ambush on the civic guard. Tonight's weather is looking like a Mana Flood, since it is the night of the Full Moon. He daydreams wistfully of the bronzed Valkyrie, whose name yet escapes him, vowing to make her his, whatever that may entail.

>Anai has 2 Experience points.
The story up to now: Anai, formerly of some other realm of existence was thrown into the wilderness with only a magical book, the Atlas, a knife, and a bag that never gets full. She befriended a beast known as a Wumpus, a strange mix between Lion, Bear, and Dog, and set off for the nearest city. On her way she encountered and fought Victor, the necromancer. She decided there that she would not allow him or anyone else to trample on those who can't fight back. Victor retreated, and Anai set off for town. During her stay she cleaned up a tavern, gaining (or rather remembering) her newfound mastery of punching the hell out of things. She used this talent in defense of a trade caravan, headed to the city docks.

>cont
>>
Elves, who had been raiding the town for unknown reasons targeted the convoy, and managed to slip past and destroy the caravan. After fighting off the elves, Anai had captured two alive, and interrogated them. It quickly became clear that the matter was not so black and white after all, as the henchmen of The Magistrate disembarked from the 'trade' ship and confronted Anai. Displeased with their lack of respect, Anai grievously injured The Magistrate and made off with her new friends: Winter, Niccolo, and Maria. Winter is a mysterious knightly figure who generally keeps quiet, surrounded at all times by a glamoured armor, and is cold to the touch. In addition, he carries an Atlas, the same magical book Anai has. She has a feeling he's not exactly who he says he is. Niccolo is the commander of the Elves shock troops, who was in charge of the raid. He is joined by his adjutant Maria, a mage and alchemist of decent skill. The party now heads for Summer's Glade, to discuss what actions will be taken from there.

You are ANAI, an Atlas user, and you are ecstatic. The curse is broken! You had a good day! The last handful of hours have been spent in pleasant travel with your new friends, learning their language, and setting random brushes on fire. It's weaker than your wind magic, but it's certainly destructive. Maria has also taken the time to instruct you on the use of Cantrips.

>RULE, Cantrips: Small exertions of magical power, such as cooling yourself off with a small fan of wind, or lighting a campfire. Such small uses of your power don't put a measurable drain on your reserves.

You have come to an abandoned house just off the road, and Niccolo suggests that you ought to stay here for the night, if possible. Tonight will be a full moon, so the air will be suffused with more Mana than usual. It'll be a good night for you to practice, though other things may become more powerful as well, so it's best to stay inside.

The house appears to have been occupied until very recently. Maybe one, two days ago?

I'd rather not, if there's no interest today then I'll just let the thread die and try again later. My fault partially for not prewriting much of anything. I'm a bit slow. I'll give it a while before I jump ship, probably till about 7:30.

The house is indeed abandoned, but other than some broken chairs with a bit of charring in the main dining room, not much seems amiss. Something smells slightly unpleasant, but it might just be the usual odor of the home. It’s a large farmstead just a little ways from the fork in the road that leads south to Nolan Woods and Summer’s Glade. You wonder briefly if the elves had something to do with it, but the fields outside appeared fine, other than the lack of any livestock despite the barn and stable you saw on the way in. There’s something eerie about the large, empty home that you can’t quite place, but the others don’t seem too worried. Except for Maria who seems rather on edge. You could tell because when you opened a door suddenly returning to the living room, she jumped up and shrieked, leveling the end of her flaming staff at you.

>Woah, what’s gotten into you?
>DON’T SHOOT OH MY GODS!
>BOO!
>Eh, it’s probably just a spooky empty house and the full moon spooking her.

<Maria, woah, calm down! What’s gotten into you?> you say, practicing your elven, hoping her native language will calm her nerves.

<Sorry, sorry Anai. I just… I thought you were something else.> she replies, clearly embarrassed.

“Wait, some THING? What did you think was going to be in here?” you ask, confused.

“Yes, there’s something -wrong- about this house. Can’t you feel it? Something awful happened here.” She says, shaking. Winter and Niccolo nod to eachother, and step outside.

“We’ll go check out the rest of the property. If Maria feels something it’s worth at least checking.” Niccolo says over his shoulder.

Meanwhile Maria is looking around, and drawing a few symbols on the walls with a piece of chalk. Seems she’s staying here.

>I’ll come with you, more eyes the better.
>I’ll stay here, Maria seems shaken up.
>I’ll help out, what are those Maria?

“I’m coming too. I encountered a Necromancer a few days ago back at that tower we passed. He might still be in the area now that I think about it, I would have thought his home teleport would have taken him farther.”

Maria lets out a whimper, and redoubles her efforts drawing the odd, eagle shaped symbols on each corner of the living room.

The three of you head outside, looking around for possible places of interest. The night is already upon you, and the moon looks about three or four times larger than it usually does. The upside of this is that it’s fairly light outside right now, and you can make out most of the property. The moon is however slowly turning from white to red.

You motion to the others to follow you, heading for the barn. You are really starting to feel what Maria was talking about. There's an energy hanging in the air, mixing with the ambient mana, and it feels...disturbing.
>You have 3 Bonus MP due to the weather.

"Split up, but don't go too far you two, if you find anything let the others know." they both nod their assent and split off into parts of the gigantic barn. You proceed inward, sniffing the air to check for any strange scents.

The barn is dead silent, other than the creaking of your footsteps on the old staircase. You peek above the stairs when you reach the top, and you are greeted with several dozen bales of hay. They extend back in rows, reaching the far end of the loft. As you climb cautiously further up, you smell it. Mixed with the copper scent of the ambient mana you smell it. Decaying flesh.

You stop, hesitating on the stairs. You could call out to your friends, they would certainly hear you, but what else might? Niccolo should be below you in the side corridor, and Winter was checking the central aisle.

I'll just make this the last post for tonight, it seems like nobody is interested in sticking around to play, so we'll have a thread later in the week. Being on break from university has its advantages.

You decide discretion is the better part of valor, and turn to head downstairs. You head into the central aisle and see winter, looking intently into each of the cattle stalls, all of which are open. You jog up next to him, and it becomes clear why he's staring.

Lying in a heap of blood and flesh is a middle aged man, clearly dead for quite a while. He has a few sword wounds, and it looks like he stumbled in here from the rear entrance and stopped moving. Whether or not he was already dead you can only guess with the overpowering smell of magic masking what few traces would have been evident.

Winter shakes his head and sighs, and it is about then when you hear a shuffling sound above you. Actually, a lot of shuffling sounds.

Then the man in front of you moans.

You just had to open your big mouth about having a good day, didn't you.
