Hello, and welcome back, to MACHINE CIVILIZATION: the fifthening.
Here's a link to the last thread, http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36776918/
Summary
We finally shut down all of the gnoll rebellions and get that magic program going. We now have gnolls working in a mine not in base camp and some Borg spell casters to charm them.

Our resources
6 mining bots (still to be deployed due to gnoll tensions)
2 constructor bots
4 recon bots, 3 spell casting gnoll Borgs, one humanoid scout bot with scanner.
5 combat drones (two in centaur form with ballistae, one self loading)
10 gnolls with 2 days until they have to be fed, 100 units of metal each day.
1800 units of metal
A dwindling heap of crystals due to failed attempts to integrate them into weaponry.

Buildings
One smithery with mounted metal crossbow on roof
One lab with magical energy dispenser to power robots in the local region with technically infinite power.
One wizard tower with wizard stuff and books inside
One dungeon mine with an exhausted iron and crystal seam and some currently banished chaos monster activity.
One mine with an "airlock" to trade rations for materials with the gnolls
Two towers, one at the shacks, one at the gnoll settlement, both connected to the base by underground tunnels that go under the bases trench surrounding it. Both have auto loading crossbows stationed on top.

When the last thread was up, calcium mentioned something about harpy migration, then he vanished. I don't know when he'll be back, so I'll try to do it justice.

As usual, we have the bag round event of gaining 100 metal each day until the gnolls exhaust the mine. We also have harpy breeding now. Once the swarm arrives, about 10 harpies, every other day, their population will double.

Things to keep in mind, harpies like shinies, harpies can fly, harpies have very sharp claws and talons, harpies are frail, and harpies breed, well, like harpies.
>>
>>36795450
I'll be back in 8 hours, I'm leaving this thread to any node who didn't get a chance to GM last time to GM today.
Rolling for days until harpies arrive.

Scan for another mineral deposit. It's a crime the miner bots aren't working. Keep them escorted.

Still don't see why they can't mine with the gnolls, supervised.

Did we finish Pegasus? Build another if we did.
>>
Rolled 20, 14 = 34 (2d20)

>>36797955
The Hermes starts to roam around our land, scanning everything he can trying to find new iron deposit.
Meanwhile Hephaestus' picks up old blueprints of Pegasus and starts a new project
>>
>>36798010
From the original description I get it's something like this, though with ballistas instead of cannons.
>>
>>36798010
The Hermes easily picks the signals of iron from beneath from the ground. The new vein is located at the waterfall, that a great news as we can defend it by our towers. It's a big vein.
Meanwhile at our base both Hephaestus' finished new Pegasus, shinny steed for our great robots (-150 iron = 1650 iron left)

>>
>>36798101
The day has finished, Gnolls are a bit angry about sitting in mine, though they are still alive. We only left food for gnoll on one more day.
Our towers had picked some signals about harpies and that they will arrive aprox. 7 days from now
>>
>>36798123
We should build the assembly factory we discussed. It would be able to queue orders more efficiently and leave Hephaestus units only to research, repairs and prototype building. Should enlarge and strengthen our perimeter with better walls as well. Iron reinforced walls instead of rocks.
>>
>>36798189
Right.. we should probably wait with defenses and obtain biomass for the meatbags.
>>
>>36798192
I forgot to say, but we already build assembly line in last thread. Yet they can build only 2 jitsu-borgs at time(one job)
>>
Rolled 9, 12 = 21 (2d20)

>>36798210
The sun rises as Hephaestus' are start to build new defense lines, who knows how they will improve it?
Meanwhile our pack of hunters (gnollbots) with Hermes arrive to da woods in search for meatbags primary food - stupid meatbags
>>
>>36798263
1/2
Knowledge is the strongest weapon, as Hephaestus' know our enemy - harpies, they start to improve our walls, rocks are still primal material but we now have tons of iron, so Hephaestus' reinforced outer walls with iron and build walking perimetr on top of walls, filled with huge spikes that will stop harpies from landing on them and 4 balistas, to finish this they used 400 iron(1750 -400 = 1350 iron).
Thanks to quick drills our mining bots finally reached iron vein and will start to produce metal.
>>
>>36798360
2/2 tomorrow.
Meanwhile our hunting party found group of stupid meatbags ( as gnolls call them, deers) that were eating grass peacefully, they never new what hit them, as 4 swift arrows pierced they hearts . Now we have food for 6 day
>>
We can use the harpies as a renewable food source, we lure them with some shiny crystals and fug them up.
>>
>>36798659
We might do it, but they will arrive in big pack, estimated 120-160 harpies. Any orders, Thought node ?
>>
>>36798699
Research for some new weapons.
Get herpes and knotbots to scout the northern settlement area we dug up from that brain.
>>
Going to work. Make it a good read.
>>
Rolled 19 (1d20)

>>36798768
>herpes and knotbots
kek
We would like to send Hermes to scout there, but we think he wont be able to get there and back with current energy cells we have. We can of course research solar panels for that purpose.
The Hephaestus at lab starts to experiment, what we will get
>>
>>36798699
I'd argue the need to research better ranged weapons. Or perhaps defensive ones. Hm.

Balistas take too long to fire, and harpies are agile. A faster loading ranged weapon would dramatically increase the chance of an attack connecting. Alternatively harpies must seek melee engagement to present a threat. An active defense strategy may also grant benefits. Running a powerful current of electricity over the platform's body would stun and shock harpies, throwing them to the ground when they attack, granting a window of opportunity to finish any would be attacker.

Two types of research I can hypothesize.
>>
>>36798833
Hephaestus brings old blueprints of thing he couldn't build earlier, but now with some much time and metal he can. After connecting small pump to a metal tube he manages to press air into really high pressure and after release tube starts to blow air at high speed, maybe we can somehow weaponize high speed air? Second project he called thunderstorm. He connects long, agile highly conductive coil to power cell, It can burn using electricity, good thing robots are immune to it, mostly.
Chose one:
"Air-soft tube bows"
>The pump sucks air and then lunches small metal object through the tube, works as bow, but faster.
"Electrical whips"
>Through metal whip or long coil runs high power electricity that can burn and stun meatbags
>>
File: tesla coil.jpg (61 KB, 420x400)
61 KB
61 KB JPG
>>36798997
Oh dear. I'll suggest the electrical project. Maybe we can refine it further in the future for longer range purposes. Though it would probably require an immense power source.
>>
>>36798997
We should also use the assembly factory to good use this cycle and build more drones.
>>
Rolled 7 (1d20)

>>36799139
We can build jitsu-borgs, they are good and assembly line can create 2 of them. For other robots it needs improvement
>>36799119
So be it, electrical whips are now in our list
>>
>>36799180
The first day that assembly line was used at it's full power, Hephaestus with no problems builds 2 extra jitsu-borgs, thanks to electrical research of second Hephaestus they are now armed with swords and 2 meter long whips (1350 + 100 + 6*25 - 110*2 - 50 = 1330 iron)
>>
>>36799255
Now no metal armor will defend you from them, it will only help to burn your insides. But it has one flaw, they cannot overuse it or else they will lose too much power and will shutdown
>>

The work in assembly line is giant, not only Hephaestus' work now, but every free robot is working on new type of arrows, Electrical arrow- the iron head and hollow shaft were micro-capacitor and power cell is located. After long work we created arrows worth 500 iron, all balistas, crossbows and bows can now use electrical arrows
>>

Even though most of robots work on electrical arrows in assembly line, we still have spare robots for other purposes. What shall we do, the harpies will arrive in 5 days

Because all Hephaestus' type robots are in assembly line our gnoll robots were trying to build a tower, of course they failed miserably. Construction fallen after they build first 2 meters of it. The pieces that were flying around damaged 2 gnoll borgs and now we need to clean the base from metal lying everywhere
>>
>>36801291
Unfortunate, current defenses should repulse harpy attackers, though undefensible robotics should hide underground as of the last day before the harpy attack. Net throwing defenses may also be necessary, stunning and capturing harpies work correctly.

Could we arm the gnolls? We could charm them to not revolt and kill us all and focus their attention on the harpies. We could let them eat the harpies they kill, and it would give them a change of scene and an outlet for their violent enrgies

Okay guys, I am back, sort of. I have exams and I don't think I'll be able to GM for you guys. I will be able to pop in now and then and cast orders to keep threads from going dead, but I can't keep up with the pace of GMing. Also, in three days, I will be gone for ten days for winter break, and won't be able to input at all. However, after that, I should be able to start GMing again.
>>
>>36801947
Please respond to this post so I know you got the message about not being able to contribute for a while, I won't be dead, just busy and away. If you don't see it until the thread archives, acknowledge this post in the opening post of the next thread. Thanks so much, and don't forget to archive the threads so I can catch up when I get back.

The Hephaestus build several big spears and giant iron net and old leather, where small round metal plates with spike on it is connected with several other plates by leather, then he and Hermes placed the net on top of the lab, stretching it on all other building and nailing it down at the walls, then cut a hole where slithery is. While it will stop most Harpies from foolish attack, he still placed on top of each building metal spear. Now we are sure defended from air attack
>>36802379
It really depends if you will GM tomorrow
>>
>>36802528
I'll be able to put up a post tomorrow morning and see if I can ask the other nodes if they want to GM. However, exams start the day after tomorrow. So no, I won't be able to GM. But if you do have a troper handle, then that might be useful for future coordination, unless you don't want it taken over by spam.
