No actual quest progression today, ladies and gents due to lack of time to be able to spend 4+ hours at a PC screen at one time. However, I will have intermittent PC access for the rest of the evening, so I figured I'd do another general Q&A for anyone that wants to ask questions about the setting, the characters, mechanics, or what have you.

For the uninformed, or those new to the quest, it's pretty simple: I am running a Mage: the Awakening quest, based upon the New World of Darkness book of the same name as the quest. Some things have been modified (the exp. table is using the 2e rules), changed (mainly to nerf "chargen" stuff), or simplified (because otherwise the quest will end too quickly).
>>
The document to my left is all the resources you, as players, have immediate access to. It hold 4 main things:

1. the MC's stats and spells list
2. the MC's wife's stats
3. An "Arcana 101' on what the spells do
4. the updated exp. table

But if you have any meta questions you want to ask or have answered, go ahead and ask. There will probably be spoilers involved, so read at your own risk.

And it is up to date with the results of the latest quest, where we spent 15 of our 17 exp. points to buy Spirit 5.
>>
i have an eleven hour bus trip in four days time, as well as absolutely no experience with white wolf other than V:TM. sell me on M:TA Quest

You're a 30-something Latino man who finds out that the supernatural is real, and in the process of said realization Awaken your magical powers. So far, we've done the following things with our magic:

- Electrocute then punch a vampire
- Electrocute a werewolf
- Find our missing wife
- Save said missing wife
- Exorcise a powerful demon possessing a poor woman's soul
- Save the world from said demon trying to open a portal to the Abyss (basically a mix of Hell + Cthulu-esque eldritch horros)

And this is before Christmas.
>>
>>36803967
and into the archives i will dive. you're only on about thread 15 or so, right?
>>
>>36803967
Does that mean you're considering a Christmas special?
>>
>>36804006
There's been 12 quests so far, with a Q&A thread already archived (it basically occurred at the end of the first 'arc' of the story, so most of the meta discussions there concern themselves with that).

As for the system itself, I find that it plays a very precarious dance between me (as the QM) to come up with reasonable, difficult, yet not overpowering things to throw at my players (or in this case, the MC) because of how inherently broken Magic is in a modern setting.

Quite literally, given enough time, effort, and magical preparation, you can do ANYTHING with the system and either succeed outright or have a high likelihood of your plan succeeding.
>>
>>36804017
Yes. Not sure what just yet, but it will be "canon" in the sense that things that occur in it will affect (or have affected) the story.

So far, I've considered three things:

1. Michael (the MC) and Elizabeth (his wife) go to visit the parents for Christmas and encounter something... interesting.

2. We delve into the mind of Sarah, and see just how close she is to the point of no return.

3. We do a "flashback" and see just how Elizabeth Awoke.
>>
>>36804170
The first option seems fun. I'd like the chance to have a little adventure with just Michael and Liz.
>>
>>36804170
second one looks like fun and an opportunity to put that mind magic to some use
>>
>>36804170
Well, the first option certainly sounds the most Christmassy. The second would seems like the most interesting to me though.

Or you could have the Krampas be the villain of the week.
>>
I mean, I call it a "Christmas special" but it's more just meant to be a one-shot.
>>
No questions, I just wanted to thank you for running this quest. It's been a blast!
>>
>>36803719
Hey, man, I'm glad you finally did it, thought you was too busy too make a thread. I'm too drunk to ask any meaningful questions right now, but I'm just happy that you decided to continue this awesome quest. Cheers.
>>
>>36803719
So, what about that threesome...
>>
>>36805192
we just saved her sister, give her some time.
>>
>>36805192
Hopefully never.
>>
>>36805192
Not happening ANY time soon. If ever.

Honestly, as written so far El doesn't seem the type.
>>
>>36805261
>>36805336
you guys are no fun at all
>>
>>36805353
Hey, I'm up for it if it's viable, but I'm not going to push something like that with our wife if she isn't interested.
>>
>>36805192
Like I said in the first Q&A thread, it's highly unlikely, but possible.
>>
>>36803719

Are we going to join some sort of formal group or will we remain independent like we currently are?
>>
>>36806660
Up to you guys. So far you've run into the Adamantium Arrows (initial impressions are similar to how Liz described them; magic police) and the Guardians of the Veil (aka the Mage Assassins). Liz is independent, and certainly seems to know about the other orders/groups/political powers when it comes to the Mage groups, but for some unknown reason she's a free Mage.

Her mentor was Free Council, she almost joined them, then things went south.
>>
>>36803719
I really like your quest but I feel like we bruteforced our way through most of the encounters, so to say. I can't say that I'm against your manner of handling the game, but are there going to be more challenges that doesn't concern our ability to roll exceptional successes and punching demons in the face?

Tl;dr: are you going to take a more philosophical "old-school" approach to Mage in the future, or is there going to be more "adventures?" Again, I really liked what you've done so far, so no disdain or contempt.

Also, fucking google, I'm not a robot, I swear to God-Machine.
>>
>>36806939
I'd like to see us do more politics and intrigue, it's just difficult because me as a QM don't have enough confidence in running such an 'arc,' and when I attempted to do one with this quest (when the Guardians showed up) I realized some mistakes I made with it.

Plus, the Tower we've signed to is providing us with some unique situations. For example, unless you signed to Thyrsus, or were able to have a werewolf shaman do a Soul Restore on one of the Thyrsus Mages in the ritual, you would've had to kill Sarah and then kill the Acamoth to stop the ritual.
>>
>>36807069
So you DID plan some of the story in advance? Then what did you railroad plan and what didn't? Did the players surprise you somehow?
>>
>>36807115
So far, the only things I feel I've railroaded planned was how the Acamoth fight turned out (I expected you guys to begin fighting first, realize how bad of an idea that was, then go restore souls), the initial few scenes of 'arc 2' where Jemma showed up, and the attempted punch of Chrom's face when he started groping and kissing mind raped Liz.

About the only thing you guys have surprised me with so far is not killing the Acamoth after you were told not to.

In general, the first 1-3 posts I make at the beginning of every thread are things I plan out or see unfolding, and can write up in advance, but after that the 'decision trees' branch out too far to make writing them out be reasonable.
>>
>>36807519
>and the attempted punch of Chrom's face when he started groping and kissing mind raped Liz
Well, I thought that was a general consensus. Should have punched him after the battle too.
>>
>>36807578
Yeah, I was expecting you guys to attempt to punch him once I put forth that moment in the story.
>>
>>36807616
well, what other option was there? We came to fight him and he probably knew it. He would probably have attacked if we tried to call in the others so we can fight him together.
>>
>>36807700
You guys could have called for backup or continue to try and stall for time, maybe get closer to him before doing the punch. The only reason it didn't land was because you had to go a good 20-25 feet before getting within fisticuffs range.
>>
In a general sense, just because I may recommend a course of action, I almost always have an "other' option, so if a creative anon finds a way to talk/magic up better odds or new ways to "succeed" then I want that option to be heard.
>>
No other questions for me?
>>
>>36809800
This is what an Ask.fm is for
>>
>>36809800
How's that smut going?
>>
>>36809800
>>36809860
Yeah in the future, I'd recommend an ask.fm as well. It comes in handy and you don't need to archive multiple threads for different questions
>>
>>36809860
>>36809915
I'll look into an ask.fm then, for next thread perhaps.

>>36809883
Not too well, still can't motivate myself to writing it.
>>
>>36810189
Have you got anything so far? Are you falling into the trap that outside of QMing you can't write?
>>
>>36810504
No, I know I can write (I've taken about 4 years worth of college-level fiction writing) and draw (the drawing of Jemma I posted back in quest 3 or 4 was mine), I just haven't thought about it enough to get motivated for it.
>>
>>36803802
We Spirit Master now. Nice.
>>
What Legacies are there in this city? Or do we have to make our own in any case?
>>
>>36811198
There are some Legacies in the city, but I have yet to read up on all of them. It'd probably be better if I made one for the MC though, due to the uniqueness of his Tower.
>>
>>36811306

How much do you have planned out about our tower? Are you adjusting it as we go, or do you have it already set in stone (or whatever passes for that in the Supernal realm)?
>>
>>36812290
I've got some general concepts in mind for the Tower, and if we go back to it (probably when we Archmaster it) I'll reveal more about it then.

This assumes you don't find any more about it while in the Fallen World.
>>
>>36812323
Are we going to run into the Seers soon?

Or was Chrom a Seer? Actually what do we know about him?
>>
>>36812400
Officially, Michael, Elizabeth, and the rest of the Mages you've met know very little about Chrom.

Unofficially/meta, he was a Seer, but none of the other Seers know Chrom's missing... yet..
>>
>>36812798
Why would a Seer want Liz to Awaken more people, though?
>>
>>36813194
He was trying to figure out how people Awoke, then try to replicate the neuro-chemical and mental state in other Mages to see if it let them cross the Abyss a second time. If you can induce Abyss-crossing into the Supernal Realm at will...
>>
>>36813224
This is me, dropped the trip for a second there.
>>
>>36813224
Ah, I see. An attempt at archmastery then?
>>
>>36813224
How will you be handling extended spellcasting?
>>
Next session when? Should we expect something more relaxed and sexual after saving the world?
>>
>>36804170
Why not all three?
>>
>>36813224
Which organization is Jemma/Gemini with?
>>
>>36816399
Because a "Christmas special" should just be that: special. I may use the other ones later on when I'm needing a laid back day or need more time to think about the story quest's progression.
>>
>>36814491
Depends upon the spell you guys want to cast. In general though it'll work just like it is in the books, you guys just need to decide upon what you want it to be, and how long you want to devote to it in terms of in game time.
>>
>>36817545
She was a free Mage up to this point, for fear of them learning her secret. Now though, she may seriously consider joining one of them (probably the Arrows).
>>
>>36816360
With any luck, I'll be able to run the quest later today (Wednesday) in a few hours. I'll tweet out when I'm looking to go live.
>>
>>36814024
That, and it'd be a nice gift to the Exarchs that you've "cracked the code" on how Mages Awaken, so they can choose who Awakens and who continues Sleeping.
>>
>>36818469
What kind of restrictions would you place on Shape Spirit?
>>
>>36819549
You can only affect/create one spirit at a time. And depending upon what kind of spirit you wish to create, you may need more knowledge on the type of spirit itself, along with more Occult information.
