Duan Lei and you clash, saber meeting saber across the gardens of the Yuan Palace, stance meeting formlesses technique as you strain your muscles and internal energies in mock-combat.

"Holding up there Bro?" Lei says as he blurs past your defenses, forcing you to adjust your footing and Lightfoot past him as you bring up your saber to parry.

"Having a hard time keeping up with you once you start moving. You're even quicker then I am with your saber strikes!" you compliment as you force him to back off with several elegant jian-like thrusts with your yanmaodao.

"They didn't nickname me the Swiftest Saber of Hunan for no reason you know!" he says with a grin as he presses his advantage. His fighting style is always highly aggressive, about as much as Qiang's was, even if there's less collateral damage involved.

"Feels just like yesterday doesn't it?" you say happily as you exert yourself. Getting into the routine of physical training has improved your mood. It feels like back when you were with Ba.

"Well...," Lei says, his grin faltering a bit.

"You'll win Hero Sky! Your skills are more beautiful and elegant then his!" comes Hong Lan's voice from the gazebo where she watches you.

"Watch your lower guard Sky!" Zhu'er advises.

"Lord Sky, your might is too regal and magnificent to loose to that ruffians!" comes Zhuzheng's voice right after.

"The important thing is that you both have fun and learn from each other! But Sky, I think you have an advantage!" rings out Yang Meilin's voice as she does the same.

"Not....EXACTLY like yesterday Bro...," he finishes.

"Is it feel more self-conscious when just the four of them are watching me rather then all of Chengdu?" you say to your Sworn Brother as you lock blades with each other.

"No Bro. It is not weird at all."

"We could ask them to stop? you suggest as you push off each other you taking up a defensive sword stance while Lei takes up an opposing offensive saber form.

"Nah, YOU could ask them to stop," he corrects.

"Hey! If you ladies are gonna stick around you might as well help train!" you say, mostly to get them to shut up.

"Oh, can we?!" Hong Lan says with glee, clapping her hands together.

"I'm not certain Lord Sky was speaking directly to you Hero Lan," Zhuzheng notes, her regal voice laced with annoyance.

"I think he meant ME, the rest of you will be fighting him!" Zhu'er come corrects.

"Perhaps if we switched up? I would certainly like to spar with Hero Sky, his style is intellectually fascinating," Meilin interjects as poliyely as she can.

That...wasn't the reaction you were hoping for admittedly.

"Man, talk about digging a deeper grave," Lei says laughing, removing the drinking gourd from his belt and taking a swig before removing his vest. You've both been working out all morning.

He tosses you the gourd and you catch it as you remove your own shirt and catch his vest, hanging them up on a nearby tree.

>Interlude

The young women watched as Sky struggled with his shirt, saber stuck into the dirt next to him, their argument briefly forgotten.

"Oh my," Zhengzhu said, looking away slightly, her face matching Zhou'er's as she looked down.

"MmmMM! If I had just half an hour...," Hong Lan said, not even bothering to avert her gaze.

"That's highly inappropriate Hero Lan," Meilin scolded.

"And I'm sure you're just here for the trees on this side of the garden, right?" she teased with a smile.

The Junzi Society hopeful said nothing, but blushed and buried her nose in her book.

>Interlude End

"Well I actually could learn something from them," you say with a shrug as you finish a long gulp and toss him the wine back.

"Your funeral Bro."

We might be able to learn something from her foreign style. If not her, then Zhu'er. The others likely don't see her as much yet, due to her not being one of their peers among the Top Ten Young Heroes, so letting her show off to them might win us some brownie points and help us learn a more subtle method of fighting.

Got to go with Zhengzhu. We haven't fought her yet and Zhu'er's commentary is actually useful so we should hold off on her for a bit.
>>

>>[Let them decide]
>>
So guys, I've been thinking. Maybe this time we should let someone challenge us.

If they don't, (it's possible!) then we could take some time to go, alone, out into the woods and test Form 3 again. Very briefly, so that it only has minimal effects.

This will let us see if it's something we can actively use in a fight. Right now, the damage that it does makes it seem like it's either an opener for when we want to end a fight instantly or a finisher for when we have nothing left, without any in between.

But if it turns out that it was only as bad as it was last time because we were already exhausted, we might be able to use it more tactically than just as a last-ditch hail mary pass.

Plus, going off into the woods to meditate and shit is what powerful Xia do. We have standards to live up to, and it might be more productive to train alone away from the city considering our upbringing.
>>
>>36876707
Wait, by "let them decide" you actually mean "let them fight each other for the right to fight us," right?
>>
>>36877041

>>
>>36876707

You walk over, wiping your face and putting away your sword as the women argue amongst each other for first turn.

"Been meaning to ask, your sword forms seem a little basic Bro, what's up with that?" he inquires.

"Basics are all I know. My yanmaodao handles close enough to a sword that I can use saber and sword techniques alike on it, but I only know Endless Sky Forms techniques for sword movements, while I have your Carefree Saber to learn from when it comes to saber moves," you explain.

"Have you thought about asking Zhou AI?" he suggests. "Emei Swordplay is pretty famous."

"Yeah, it's also their own special technique and it wouldn't be right of me to just out and ask to learn it," you say. "Besides, I get the feeling Ai'er can't really teach how to do what she does. Her skills are so reflexive and instinctive that when she thinks about doing it she can't, but when she doesn't think about it she does it so fast and so precisely I can't even keep up, even when it comes to adapting my strategies to suit her."

"Maybe you could ask Ma Huizhong or Xiao Jian?"

"Same problem with Huizhong; it's part of his sect, wouldn't be right. And I'm not going to ask Sword Douche ANYTHING if I can help it."

"Heh. Don't like him do you?"

"He's a prick," you say simply.

"Uncle Sky!" you hear a voice from the other side of the garden call, and you turn to see Zhou Ai rushing towards you.

"Hey Ai'er!" you say, picking her up and hugging her as she jumps into your arms. She's always so pleasant!

"Uncle Sky, I heard you were training and I came to as you!" she says happily.

"Hey, it's always great to talk to you Ai'er!" you say, putting her down as you both walk over to the gazebo, her arms still around your waist.

>Interlude

Hong Lan's left eyebrow twitched as their argument halted as Sky unhesitatingly embraced the Emei girl and spun her around with a laugh.

"That...little....," she mumbled, as Zhengzhu's face became full of annoyance and Zhu'er bit her lower lip while staring venom at the precocious xia.

>Interlude End

"Really?!" she asks, sounding happier then a duck in water.

"Sure, and I'm pretty sure everyone else likes you too," you say cheerfully as you both step onto the gazebo.

"Yeah, we're THRILLED," Zhu'er says dryly.

"Sure. We were going to fight for it," Zhengzhu says, cracking her knuckles in a most unlady-like but very piratical fashion,

"Uh, what?" you say surprised.

"Indeed. And may the best woman win," Zhu'er says, flexing her fingers like a tiger stretches it's claws.

"Oh, if it's womanly qualities we're judging by this will be a short fight," Lan says, smiling and folding her arms, making her breasts more prominent then usual.

"We're not comparing how much of a WHOR-" Zhu'er begins but you cut them off before it escalates.

"Can you think of a NON-violent way to figure it out?" you interject. Seriously, are women ALWAYS like this around each other?

"....give us a minute," Meilin says.

They discuss it amongs themselves as you sit down to rest next to Lei and Ai'er, and seemingly from nowhere Hong Lan produces a tea tray.

"Sky'gege, I prepared refreshments for everyone!" she says sweetly, sidling up perhaps a bit closer to you then is necessary.

"And thiiiis one is for you Handsome~! It has all kinds of special ingredients I made for you!" she says, leaning over as she sits the tea cup down.

"Uh....thanks?" you say awkwardly.

"Here you go Zhu'er," she says with much less embellishment to your friend, handing her a cup.

"I'm immune to poisons," she says dryly.

"....here you go Lei," she says, moving it over to your Bro.

"I'll stick with wine," he says, equally dryly.

"I...think I'll have the wine too," you agree nervously, handing your cup to your Bro so that he can pour it.

"Well if you insist," Hong Lan says with a shrug. "I'm sure you'd like the side-effects of my tea though handsome. The aphrodisiac properties are supposed to be quite effective!"

"...what's an aphrodisiac?" you ask after a second as Zhu'er bites her lower lip and shoots hate-lasers from her eyes again.

"We've decided!" Zhengzhu says, and Honglan moves over, crossing her arms confidently.

"Well, let's see what tasks I can beat you a-" she begins before Meilin interrupts.

"Shousiling," she says simply.

Rock-paper-scissors.

"W...what?" she says, her usually unflappable exterior faltering.

"We're deciding with shousiling," Zhu'er agrees.

"That's not a contest!" Honglan protests.

"My crew and I often compete in such a manner," Zhengzhu admits surprisingly.

"It's fair," Meilin notes.

"....Fine," Honglan says, knowing when she's beaten.

You watch with Ai'er and Lei, bemused at the situation as they get in a circle.

"SHOU!" Zhengzhu begins as they raise their right hands.

"SI!" Honglan says as they close fingers into fists.

"LING!" Meilin shouts, and they throw their arms down.

You watch in amazement as they all observe each other's hands, changing hand-signs in mid-swing with almost superhuman speed, trying to find one that will beat and anticipate the others as the fastest and most amazing duel of kungfu handwork you've ever seen happens over the space of exactly one half-second!

>>
>>36877920
Is Honglan her entire name now? It does roll off the tongue, I guess.
>>
>>36877985
I honestly should've been spelling it that way the whole time.
Honglan means "Red Orchid", but if you separate the words it becomes just "orchid" and then the Chinese surname Hong, which would be spelled different since family names don't carry meanings the same way given names to.

As someone affiliated mostly with her sect and not her direct family, she usually goes by her given name only. Also, that's why historical women in China have only one name (Diaochan, etc); family names are used mostly for primogeniture, so who an important historical woman's family is is less important to Classic Confucianism.

Her full name is Li Honglan.

"Haha!" she says, jumping girlishly and pumping her arm as Zhengzhu and Honglan fume.

"Okay, so how do you want to train?" she asks happily as Zhou AI sits down and begins reading with Meiling happily.

"Hand to hand I think. I've been working on my weapon skills all day, I should mix it up," you note.

>>
>>36878948

You ready yourself for her initial strike...or you thought you did, and then she somehow FLOWS towards you like a shadow over the grass, her movements hidden and deceptive as she hides her presence!

It's different from Honglan's Fox Spirit Song arts, it's more like it's hard to keep your eyes on her as she approaches, and then you parry a claw-hand strike at the last second and block her next blow, keeping away form her swift and deadly-accurate attacks!

"Damn!" you mutter as you glide away. Her footwork is amazing, and while it's not as fast as yours she's so tricky with it and stealthy with her moves that it's hard to predict her angles.

You block a high claw-hand strike near your face with both arms crossed to parry it upward, and her fingers and eventually her whole hand turns black, seeming to smoke some acrid-smelling energy as you knock it away from you and glide past her guard to her left side before she can react, throwing an elbow blow with a spinning left turn that forces her to move back!

You exhale as she takes up a ready stance again, surprised. What the hell WAS that? You knew she knew kungfu, but how good she was was a total mystery to you, and those claw-hand strikes might have seriously injured you if they hit! And what the hell was that black stuff?

"Are...are you okay?" Zhu'er says, suddenly seeming unsure.

"Sure. Again!" you say, readying yourself again.

She slides forward again at impossible angles, and you use Lightfoot and some simple parries to block and dodge her blows, looking for an opening!

It's useless; it's like trying to find a pattern in a shadow that's changing as lights move by it and change it's shape! You're faster then her and keep away with some effort, but looking for a weakness in her tactics seems fruitless! Her wide sleeves even hide the angle of her claw-attacks well!

>"FLOWING SHADOW CLAWS: SHADOW SNATCHING SOUL!"

She cries as suddenly she jets up, preempting your next Lightfoot dodge and sending a spiraling claw attack at your side, hitting you and making you grunt with pain from the sudden impact! Her internal strength is incredible, lending her girlish frame amazing punishing strength, and if you handn't pulled away her claw-hand would've latched on like a viper!

Too late you see that the maneuver, as painful as it was, is a feint, and that she's simply using it to get close and strike with her left, black-burning talon aimed at your torso, and you're unable to stop it!

But then it DOES stop, and you see Zhu'er's fingers twitch, and the acrid black smoking fingers fades.

"I...I'm...," she begins, and she backs away, suddenly unsteady. "I'm sorry, I..."

>>
>>36879895
I assumed the same, but generally in cases like that you REFRAIN from fighting when you don't want to kill the opponent.

I mean, maybe she was made all giddy and stupid by love or something. I guess it can happen, but she should have known better.
>>
>>36879894
I was thinking the idea was to learn about what was going on because it was a spar. Meh.

Your words might be convincing if we hadn't already seen the result: a miserable failure.
>>
>>36880000
After the first clash it should have been obvious to everyone the way this was going. But then again this is 4chan so maybe not.
>>
>>36880013
She went all out on us in a friendly sparring match, if we did that we'd either be dead or she would be, Sky held back and lost a sparring match. Oh freaking well. Getting mad about it isn't doing anyone any good now is it?
>>
>>36880029
What I'm saying, I didn't see a loss in a spar as a big deal. Now it's obvious we should have went on offense though, if only to avoid her nervous breakdown.
>>
>>36880069
>Getting mad about it isn't doing anyone any good now is it?
The attempt was to point out to all the people why it was stupid so in the future it might, perhaps, possibly, be corrected in a fight that does matter.

So far when we see something that can't be predicted then try to predict it AGAIN, it goes badly.

But people keep doing it.

Because "muh adaptive style".

But if there's nothing to grasp and adapt to, then being defensive is stupid. Because, in case you missed it, we still get hit or have things go through our guard when defending -- so it doesn't really qualify for avoiding damage now does it? If we're going to get hit either way, we might as well do something in return.
>>
>>36880163
Yeah, but the more you see it the more you can understand it.
>Because "muh adaptive style".
is exactly that. And if we have went offensive it could have possibly came out even worse than that.
so stop your bitching and get over it.
>>
>>36880163
True but full offense would like have killed us cause, she is more or less an assassin, they difference between a willful attack and a reflexively lethal defense is enough we could have been in trouble. Now as for pressing more on a real fight i have to agree, but it's still a case by case basis.
>>
>>36880242
If you are going to use meta knowledge about her probably being an assassin or something then I'll counter with the meta knowledge that we wouldn't have died in this fight no matter what we chose, so your argument is invalid.
>>
>>36879889
Form two! Traveling the instant path to her bed!
>>
>>36880241
Unless it can't be understood by just standing there watching it. In which case attempting to stand there being a punching bag and look in vain for a way to predict an unpredictable move is the worst decision possible. So yes, you are being retarded with "muh adaptive style" since we learn thing about a foe's style when we are attacking them too.
>>
>>36880263
it isn't meta knowledge when she uses lots of hidden blades and spams poison like no tommorrow. Additionally she was familiar with he five deadly venoms and sent spider running like a bitch. She has medical training as well which is damn useful for assassins. Sky knows such things exist, and he is fairly intelligent when he tries to be. I fail to see the meta.
>>
>>36879889

"Zhu'er, hey!" you say, rushing over to her and chasing her into the gardens, eventually leaping in front of her with Lightfoot.

"What's wrong?" you ask, confused. You've taken hits when sparring with Ba before too, you don't know what's up with her.

"I'm sorry! I...should've have sparred?"

"Why not? Because you hit me? My dad hits harder then that!" you reassure.

"But my style might have seriously injured you, well before a real match! What if my Flowing Shadow Claws...," she says, and then trails off.

She looks like she's about to cry for some reason....

Are you retarded?
Do you understand that we were understanding the move.
We got a better comprehension of it as time went on. We compared it to something we knew, and noticed differences.
How the hell do you call that unpredictable. Even if the move changes, there is a basic form it should be following. If we can understand that, and countinue from there we might get a better understanding on moves like that in general. Even if we can't FULLY comprehended that move specifically we should understand other moves like it that are inferior. So we would still gain something useful out of it.

"You know...I've been waiting for you to talk about it since we met," you admit, your voice more serious then it usually is.

"I didn't want to. I thought...I thought you might look at me differently," she explains, holding her arms tightly together looking down. "Think...less of me."

"How could I do that?" you ask, confused.

"Think less of a fish-thief?" she says, her voice filled with a sad chuckle.

"No. Think badly of you. You're the first person I've really met since I let Shuzheng. And my first real friend," you admit. "You helped me when you didn't have to. You've supported me just because you could. There's nothing in the entire world that would make me hate you, Zhu'er," you say in total honesty and seriousness.

She sobs, and bites her green lip again before speaking. She takes a deep breath.

Totally different guy, but I can see his point. I mean when we were fighting the super buff guy, we pretty much knew that our only method we had of hurting him was via zapping him. But everyone wanted to have Sky fight defensively so we could try to learn from it as much as possible.

There's a time and a place for *every* style, Endless Sky Forums isn't some kind of magical "I win" button if you fight defensively, we've been shown this *TWICE* now, and we have proof positive that its not the best choice to use in every situation.

I doubt anyone will bother to remember this though, until it's too late...

You say nothing, letting her speak. You can tell how hard this is for her.

"The Thirteen Families of the Tang Clan are assassins, and have been for generations. Our specialties are in stealth, unarmed combat, hidden weapons, medicinal techniques, and poisons. We take money to end lives, and we never take sides or risk our neutrality," she says, reciting it like a mantra.

"Tang Clan training is strict, and brutal. Serious injuries and even deaths happen to those who are weak. All initial practice matches are fought with lethal force, so risk of injury or death is always present. When you pass, you become part of one of the Thirteen Families, and forever gain the loyalty and respect of the Clan, even if you were not born into it originally."

"Only men of the Tang are trained in martial arts. Death is always a risk in assassinations, and thus women, the mothers of future generations of the Tang must learn only basic self-defense and the many advanced medicinal techniques we understand, that our knowledge of how to heal bodies must always grow. Because if you know how to heal a body, you know how to kill it."

"If only the men are trained, why is your kungfu so good?" you ask as she pauses.

"My father Tang Laihu was killed twenty years ago, dying from wounds inflicted in a duel five years prior. He was the head of the Third Family and Elder Tang's only son," she explains. "With no male heir to the clan's martial skills, I was left as the only one of the direct line. So I was taught not only our medicinal skills, but also our martial techniques."
>>
>>36881136
I'm a little disappointed she didn't say, "Sky, that was basic self defense."

>>
>>36881136

"I told you about my Aspected Qi?" she asks. You nod.

"It's aspected towards poison," she says simply, her eyes looking full of...something like sadness, but deeper. Like a pain so heavy it's stuck inside her bones forever.

"My internal energy was weak, because originally I was not going to inherit the martial skills of my Clan. I had the natural enhance diantien from my parent's high cultivation, but I lacked the necessary training. To further augment by qi reserves I was poisoned," she explains as if it's a matter of fact. "Over and over and over again. Toxins were flooded through my body, then I was given antidotes while I struggled to purge the poison from my body using my internal energy. I had to drink raw snake blood after the snake was fed toxins to purify it's venom. Viper, cobra, spider, centipede, toad, wasp, every poison in the world there is, I was filled with more then once. I was...I was ten when this started."

You stare in something like horror at this explanation. Your father's training was tough, but this sounds like TORTURE to you, not training.

"It made me stronger. My internal energies grew exponentially from the stresses they were put through. But there were...costs," she explains, her grip on her arms tighter now, like she's trying to tear her skin off. "My hair turned green. So did my lips, my nails, and my eyes. My blood is a virulent toxin. My whole BODY is as poisonous as my Thousand Venoms Internal Style, more deadly then any natural poison on Earth. In sparring, I killed more then I meant to, simply because even weakest uses of my style could be fatal."

"I was taught my family's martial secrets so they could be preserved, not so they could be used, so I never left the Tang Fortress, nor was I ever intended to go on missions. I would marry someone one day and carry on the central legacy of the Tang Clan. I accepted this. But....when my Grandfather took in the Five Deadly Venoms on the advice of my fiancee, I couldn't stay anymore, like I told you earlier. I hated my husband-to-be, and even though I'd never left the valley anything was better then being his wife."

"Who WAS your fiancee?"

"Tang Shijing, the Scholar With Nine Lives. After my father died, the disruption in power balance with cased among the Thirteen Families of the Tang weakened us, and Nine Lives Scholar Shijing offered us his strategic services so as to renew our strength. Tang wasn't so bad. At least it wasn't Beggar's Sect robbery where you had to wander five gorillion years in plain sight to get where you needed to go. Royal Guard and Tang were super easy to traverse with the right movement skills. Triple jump and airdashing usually did the trick.

Hmm. Well about like I had guessed then. The whole "My blood is super-poison." was unexpected, but not unmanageable.

I think we should ask her not to get into fights with the other girls though, after seeing her sparring just now.

Finally, we can point out that it's not like we go around yin-yanging people in sparring matches either, because there is a very real possibility they would die too. No wulin arts are just "for lulz" or anything like that. We trust her enough to spar with her anyway, but it's her call if she wants to continue.

>>
>>36881663

"And so that's it. That's who I am," she says, her voice breaking a little. "I'm a daughter of killers. My mother died giving birth to me. My father died just living through his injuries trying to teach me my basic skills. My martial arts are meant only to hurt people, not study and improve oneself. My skills are murder, deception, and deceit. Every inch of my body is poison, right down to my marrow. I'm not named afte pearls or flowers or sunlight or virtues or anything beautiful. I'm 'Zhu'er'; a Spider-girl, like you said."

>Interlude

Zhu'er stood there, her green nails raking the black silk of her sleeves as if trying to tear it off and through her skin. She used to wonder if she scratched herself deep enough and used Thousand Venoms, if she might die. It wasn't true of course, but she used to hope.

'He'll hate me now', she thought, sinking into the familiar black depths of absolute despair that came to underline her entire life.
'All I've ever done is kill people, and I poison everything I touch. Now that he knows about-' she thought, but was interrupted when suddenly she felt strong arms circle her.

She pushed at him, startled for a second, but he wouldn't let go, so she stopped, her palms resting on his chest as his arms held her close. She felt something hot in her eyes.

"I told you Zhu'er. There is nothing in the entire world you could ever say that could make me hate you," she heard him repeat.

Zhu'er sniffled once, before putting her arms around him in return.

She began to cry, but for once, she didn't know if she was doing it before she was sad, or happy.

You hold Zhu'er in your arms as she cries, and you put your right hand on the top of her green haired head as she buries her face into your chest, gently stroking her hair, and you even rest your chin on her, unsure of what to say.

You're glad she's weeping.
If she looked up, she might see the haunted expression on your face as you look out into the Autumn-heavy gardens as the wind picked up fallen leaves around you.

>"Tang Laihu was a mighty warrior, but Storm Dragon killed him in a single blow."

You say nothing, continuing to comfort the orphaned daughter of the man your father killed to prove his strength.

And you wonder, unable to help yourself, just how much responsibility for her tormented life is lies directly on the shoulders of Storm Dragon Feng Renshu, and how much of that responsibility now lies on your own shoulders.

"I'm sorry Zhu'er," you say, to her, and to yourself.
"I'll make it up to you. I promise."

"What?" she asks, wiping her eyes with her wrist.

"I just can't believe you were telling the truth when you said your name was 'spider-girl'. You totally had me convinced you were using some kind of alias," you say as you walk back with her.

"Shut up!" she says, rolling her eyes, playfully throwing some fallen leaves at you. "It's not like I picked it or anything!"

When you arrive back at the gazebo, the others rush over, to inquire what happened, and you reassure them that everything is fine now.

Zhou Ai rushes over in tears to hug Zhou'er, startling her with her embrace.
"I'm sorry Aunty Zhu! If you're mad because of something I did, I won't do it again, okay?" she says, clearly upset by her sudden flight.

Zhou'er sniffles a little and smiles, hugging Zhou Ai back.
"No, I'm fine Zhou Ai. You could never do anything to make me upset," she reassures.

Zhou Ai is the Emei Sect hopeful, yes.
I kept spelling her name wrong from my notes when she was originally introduced.
She bonded with Sky very quickly (she kinda does with everyone though), which is appropriate as her name literally means "love".
>>36883163
If I don't end it on cliffhangers how could I get anyone to come back?

At least my pacing isn't as god-awful as a normal wuxia series!

'Ge' refers to an older brother.

Welcome.

The suffix "gege" (pronounced "guh-guh") is an extremely girlish term of affection used in conjunction with men's names, akin to a girl affectionately calling a man "-kun" in Japanese. It's often used between couples who are being disgustingly affectionate.

Using just "ge" as a suffix is just "Brother" in a girlish fashion, but slightly less sweet about it.

Basically she was calling Sky "honey" or "dear" the entire time, which is extremely forward of her.
>>
>>36883299
ok thanks for that
>>
>>36883299
>Basically she was calling Sky "honey" or "dear" the entire time, which is extremely forward of her.
It's Honglan. I would more call that normal.

Forward would be walking into our room tonight and finding her already stripped and in the bed.

Similarly the "-er" suffix (as in Zhu'er and Ai'er) is a male term of affection for a younger girl, meaning "Sister" usually or "girl" more literally, akin to a man calling a girl "-chan" in Japanese.

Sky calls Zhu "Zhu'er" because that's how she first introduced herself to him (and because he's quite close to her now) and Ai "Ai'er" because he likes Ai quite a bit because she's just so easy to get along with compared to the somewhat ulcer-inducing status of the other women in his life.

Li Honglan is a complicated woman, but when it comes to romance subtly is somewhat beyond her.

Mostly because she has no real experience being actually romantic, just blatantly sexual.
>>
>>36883449
Also, if you wanted the know the exact word Honglan uses when she's addressing Sky as "Handsome" is, it's "shuàigē", which basically means "handsome brother/man".

Also a very forward form of address of course.

Some admissions; I can't take much if any credit for the practices of the Tang Clan of assassins.

The Tang Clan has been mentioned in wuxia works (usually only briefly, but in one of Guo Long's novels they are central to the plot) for decades, always as the sinister medicine masters and poison-using hidden weapon assassin dudes from Sichuan/Chengdu, and usually as bad guys.

Here I have painted the Tang as something like a ninja clan from Fuutaro Yamada's Ninpocho novels (without the freaky superhuman mutants); ruthless, secretive, and seemingly cruel to outsiders but intensely loyal to each other and mostly a neutral party politically speaking.

The weird practices that gave Zhu'er her incredible internal energies (out of any of the younger characters she has the highest Cultivation rating) aren't of my invention either, but weird shit outta Chinese medicine, which like I said has some pretty strange ideas about how the body works.

Something I have been wondering. Zhu'er was standing right next to us, green hair and all, when her fiancee saw us at the opening ceremonies.

This seems like it would have been relevant, considering.
>>
>>36884054
speaking of spider dude, i wonder who we should be more afraid of, him or Ironheart?
>>
>>36884124
Yes.
>>
>>36884054
Go back and read again; it was Ironheart who saw Sky, not The Scholar With Nine Lives.

Sky then (worried that he was somehow being recognized), went specifically with Zhu'er to go get some candy (which she was all to happy to do).

When Ironheart and Shijing look back over at where Sky was, the space was empty, and they never saw Sky and Zhu'er standing together, and both were paying more attention to Sky later on, who admittedly was doing a lot to make himself more noticeable at the time, while Zhu specifically was not.

Also note that it was Lei who was talking and answering questions about Ironheart and Tang Shijing, despite Zhu being by far the more knowledgeable of the pair; she was specifically avoiding speaking about her past as long as possible.

>>36884124
Depends on what you mean by "afraid".
There's lots of ways to make someone afraid of you, and some ways certain characters aren't as scary as others.

Both of them are SERIOUSLY bad news for completely different reasons.
>>
>>36884159
This is the correct answer.
>>
>>36884204
I gotcha. I just figured, you know. Green hair.
>>
>>36884375
The presence-hiding thing is helpful in avoiding Shijing's notice; she was basically trained as a ninja, and despite her weird physical features she's skilled enough in positioning, psychological tricks, stealth, and body language to basically be capable of appearing to vanish when near other people in broad daylight, even when you know she's there somewhere.

She makes herself seem smaller next to a person who draws lots of visual attention, stands just behind and to the side of people so you have to deliberately look PAST someone to see her, doesn't make eye contact with people she's trying to avoid, hides her presence so she becomes harder to "feel", and makes excellent usage of cover and obstacles (up to and including people).

In a crowd of eclectic weirdos like the xia and commoners in the opening ceremonies, she's a ghost if she wants to be.

It's Zhu'er preference to remain unseen, unheard, and unnoticed by people, and in more then one way she's arguably the most dangerous member of the younger cast; she's capable of sneaking up on someone left totally unaware of her presence, and by the time they IS aware of her it's far too late, and she's more then close enough to kill.

>"Tang Laihu was a mighty warrior, but Storm Dragon killed him in a single blow."
oh shit.
>>
>>36883151
>maybe she's from the female nuns sect offered to train with her so she could get used to fighting guys it was on the same day we meet kumushin.
From how that post was phrased, I thought that was a little girl from the same sect, not the one whom we trained with.
>>
>>36884696
It's not wuxia if there isn't at least one unnecessarily painful and convoluted romance plot!
>>36884756
It's the same person.
Zhou Ai is not actually that young, but is short for her age and very immature, making her seem much younger.

>>36883299
>One ge is brother, two ge is boyfriend
>Boyfriend is brother squared.
hehe.

funny thing is, I actually knew that
>>
>>36884817
Huh. Never thought of that.
>>36884839
I knew someone did.
