Baptized by the sea, you saw your own dawn to a world of magic.
Led, by the Followers, you leaped into America to incite chaos and teach suffering.
Chosen, by Lucifer, you enlightened the ignorant.
Defeated, by a mad degenerate demon that knew she could not die.
Held by a hand of those that fight for the glory of God.
Freed by a band of renegades commanded by dubious persons.
Baptized once again by fire, the morning star had been abandoned and a new legend began based on the primordial wrath of an old and burned wood.

Finding serenity with the Fae, you now stand in their defense.
Draw now your sword. Face your foes.

You are The Ash.

Over(human)LIMIT Season 2 Finale.
>>
The dervish dances among white sand, as you stand in the midst of her storm, Devon the edgemaster at your side. A burning streak cut across overhead, followed by a primal roar that drains the very color from your face, the world blurring into a cacophony of black and white.
The Dervish, in her white shroud and marble sand are like a spectre of light, all the death in the world. Every shadow evolves into a yawning maw against the bleak white, the black of your wooden arm and dark garb in opposition with the glow of your power similarly twisted into a dark shade.

“What the fuck is going on?” You shout out over the assail of white sand, your words nearly drowned out by the power of their whirl. Devon doesn't hear you, charging forward at the Dervish with flashing strikes as he picks up his speed, even with the length of his magical blade, his blade does not reach hers as he takes gruesome attacks in her retaliation.
A turn and her white visage sweeps around him, black shooting from his wound, soaking into the wild sand as her whirlwind sweeps beside you.

“Trust” Legna manages to say in the brief interval as your arm reflexively- no, instinctively parries her strike only to get swept up in the inertia of her spin. You're compelled to step backward as you're turned halfway around to have her second blow sweep over your chest. There's a sting, and the draw of blood, but the wound is shallow.

She comes for you again, you feel that something is off, that something is broken.

“En Guarde!” Devon calls out, and you feel as though the “Duel” has resumed. If you look away the duel will end, it seems that Devon has a command word to reinstate it quickly. As a vein that injury of his may be bad, but it won't kill him. You need to kill this bitch and get out of this storm. Whatever's going on outside can wait, if you turn your back on the Dervish she'll kill you.

What you find strange is that she hasn't silenced you yet, it'd be easy to kill you in that case, wouldn't it?

The only reason Legna lost as fast as she did last time was because she got timestopped by Bishop. If we're supporting her with magic of our own, I trust her to hold out.

As for what spells to use, geo would probably be good. We could try to rip off Marcus' thing and focus our flames super small super hot instead of blowing things up.

You assure Legna that you'll leave motor function to her, you feet immediately adopting a more comfortable stance, sword forward and empty hand held almost at guard for more balance and control. Because of the legend you'd imbued into the sword, you're forced to hold it with only your wooden arm. With a deep breath through your mask, you advance forward upon the Dervish, cleaving down, catching nothing but air as she nimbly twists out of the way, you catch the blunt end of her weapon in the shoulder, forcing you back and away.
Pausing her spin for a moment, she gives the scythe a vertical twirl with a long finishing strike as though to cleave the air with a blade of sand. She seems surprised for a moment as her ranged attack fails, this gives you enough time to recover and redouble your intentions.

“Last engagement, I could only fend off her blows, I never landed a direct hit upon her...”

The Dervish steps back, turning back into her cycle with one fluid movement before seemingly dancing upon the air. You duck under the first blow and block the second not far from your cheek, a blade of sand cutting right underneath your right eye. She begins to force her way through your guard just as you collect enough of an intention to ignite the blade of your sword into a single line of high heat, singeing its way through the shaft of her scythe. With a wordless yell, you make to retaliate only to catch air once more, she takes two long hops back to assess the damage to her weapon, before staring at yours, still gleaming with heat held in the daylight glass.

Tossing her weapon to the ground without another word, it snaps the head of the scythe off, rending it a stick and a blade affixed to a crude chunk of wood.

With such a carelessness seemingly out of place for her character, you half-expect her to turn around and walk away. You wish that would happen.
>>
>>36901450

With a methodical draw, she unsheathes and brandishes a pair of two long and curved swords nearly the size of half her body each.

Seeing your chance, you advance upon her with your burning blade, bringing it down through the white sand, a streak of blazing white in this colorless void.
Your blade finds a stop at an overhead dual parry by the dervish, each of her blades wrapped in a fine white haze courtesy of the dust. Yet still the woman's head is bowed down, eyes closed. She's still not looking at you.

You find that even in the midst of everything that's going on, as a warior of the fae and of the woods, this may be the most infuriating thing. Your blade is pushed back, nicks of heat glowing from her blades right before she sweeps past you in a low spin. You feel a clean slice and suddenly feel lighter as you tumble to the ground, missing both of your feet, amputated in symmetry, your feet rolling off elsewhere. You catch yourself by stabbing Aeirth into the ground, gritting your teeth in tumultuous fury.

You can feel the Dervish at your back, she's not done with you yet...

If Asher's a tree to the fae, earth would probably work best.

Another option would be to use flora to heal the feet, but that would probably cause a fuckton of burn if we don't burn our LIMIT, and I'd rather just slap on some temporary feet and save the LIMIT for killing either Dervish or Bishop or for dealing with Marcus if it turns out that he did flip his shit.

>>

And only the negative.

An other option that you guys could do is perform "Knight"
>>

>>
>>36901676

>>
>>36901719

This is true. MF ice is superior to earth.
>>
>>36901735
Do we have water with us?
Or just transmutate it?
>>
>>36901743
Asher's good enough at Alchemy to flash transmute some air/earth (forgot which one's easier) into water without too much burn from it, yeah?
>>
>>36901753
For feet, blood would suffice.
For knight, a transmutation would be required.
>>
Just throwing it out there, but we could totally LIMIT burn to pull off some kind of avatar state ripoff all the elements super Knight.
>>
If you guys have any more questions, ask them. I'm going to hold a revote after that so we can be a bit more clear on what's going on.

That said, with Legna possessing Aeirth and the RG within Asher, Knight might have an interesting form depending on the elements involved.
>>
>>36901771

>>
>>36901878

Less defense than Ice and less mobility. Attacks ain't getting dodged with this.

Least defense, so if we fuck up a dodge, then we're getting cut 100% for sure.

How they could go right (but they probably won't)
> Ice for Materia defense.
It -might- actually be strong enough to stop her blades, potentially trapping them and letting Devon finish her. Or at least disarming her.

Instinct, it tells you that it's coming, or maybe it's Legna's death precognition? Either way, you feel a surge of adrenaline gushing through your body the instant after you land and realize your feet are gone. With a roaring yell, you blast forward with flames from your stumps as you slide Aeirth into the ground again to halt your forward motion, twist and fling out a burning white flare, a ranged attack as you realize that Duel's been canceled again. “That's fine, it was a hindrance anyway,” you think as another gusting blade lops off your left hand at the forearm, forcing you to roar out the fiend spell for a forced division by the erupting fire to drive the Muslim whore away.

As it grants only a temporary reprieve, her tempest winds surge for you, as she's likewise released from the ranged penalty of duel. As you face down the pillar of cutting white winds you call out, “Legna! Knight!” White flames spill out to wreath your body from the ground up, you feel wings forming at your back, a split between a burning angel's and a faerie's. It advances to the blade, and covers your face into a brilliant helm. Different from before, you feel like you're clad in tempered steel. No, it's lighter than that. This is like wearing glass born of fire and air, that's been forged in light. The pain of the transformation fries your nerves, yet the amputated limbs are casually replaced by prosthesis of armor flame.

Fleeing from the dervish's storm by flight, thin blades of dust slice in a macabre dance as you force yourself to have the speed to dodge the assault, casting unrefined fiends to obscure her version by reflex, briefly undermining the fact that she doesn't need to see you.
>>
>>36903438

From the haze and residual smoke of your flame, she leaps out to clash with you, a sudden snap and like gears in a machine instantly perform the conversion necessary for Nitro fiend, blasting her back down to the earth and putting a hole in her grandiose sandscreen all the way down to a subtle crater of sand.

Still, you do not feel triumph even for a moment as you stare at her, burning fingers pressed together, ready to unload another one should she rise again. You briefly consider even to just double-tap her now. The threat of obscuring her with your own flame giving you pause.

The moments that pass feel like an eternity, and in the slightest amount of movement, you see it and fail to react in time.

With a finger pressed to her lips, your voice, your mind's eye goes quiet and your magic ends with you falling once more. It's not high. You wouldn't call it high based on what you've jumped before. But you don't have legs this time, or an extra hand. Despite the emptiness of your own mind and voice, your right arm still moves as though possessed. Stabbing down, Aeirth suffers the full damage through your wooden arm. The sword remains fine, but your rooted shoulder tears the seam of flesh in your chest and back, forcing you to scream out wordlessly and in pain.
>>
>>36903469

With the world forced black and white, and your own words silenced, things seem exceptionally bleak.

The woman rises and you notice that Devon's been cut in twain. No words for his demise form in your mind, but you do realize that the strike that took your legs wasn't even intended for you. She was erasing him. You look up to her, pain flooding through your chest cavity, torn open and bleeding, her own swords still pristine, her clothing merely scorched.

It's as though you were never even on the same level.

Your sword arm raises your blade, only to clumsily fall on its elbow with the missing support. You aren't even the one trying to move your body...

What's the last thing you do Asher?

Nevermind, you don't even have a voice right now...
>>
>>36903487

The Dervish woman's eyes are open. With the voice of the world cut off from either of you, there's nothing left to say, nothing left to do.

As though to admit your defeat, you close your eyes, awaiting the impending doom... Moments pass, they feel like hours or even days. An exaggeration, sure. Yet in short time you hear the Turkish woman's voice say...

“I walk in peace.”

There is a lot of description of the scene, but not much action. In general, you are pretty good (judging by this quest) at building a scene through your descriptions. I feel like you are trying to build a hook through the uncertainty of the scene, but I just don't really feel that attached. I'm not sure exactly what I would change (and I suck at creative writing anyway), but if you are fully committed to the whole "amnesia-induced in media res", you need to give us more to cling to, I think. As he lands, a spell is completed at the behest of the once-man now-woman. The color is erased from the area, a perfect canvas for an artist with the power of color. A mere glance at her and he's already wrapped in Reaper's black and Hellfire's Red, drinking in the color, he becomes a visage of dread not unlike his mask's own eclipsed sun detailing. Before him stands a Templar staring back with a modestly surprised look that merely masks his terror.
Terror that Marcus can smell.

The fate of a nerve facing down a proper bone alone is as written in stone as the fact that fire will burn wood.

“Hold.” The man raises a hand with Marcus barely listening until the first burst of speed. Then he sees something from the corner of his eye, a frozen picture of whites and blacks. The sliver of a crescent moon the most apparent thing.
Grinding into the floor to cease his advance, he recognizes his own Karen seemingly frozen in time beside the man.

“It is a pleasure to see you again, monster,” The Bishop smiles with an unfriendly familiarity, “I caught this one trying to fade out of sight and out of mind like I wouldn't-”

Marcus lets out a long wordless roar of rage as he smashes a burning fist into the ground, a brief tantrum to let him think clearly. With a deep breath, “So she's frozen.” He finally says, in a deadpan.

“In her own time, yes.”

Glancing over to Camille, Marcus reigns in his anger, “Cast, and you're dead.”
Back to the Bishop, he glares harshly.

“Oh, you wound me monster. You were some kind of devil incarnate once upon a time, correct?”

“Times change.” Marcus retorts.

“Indeed, and it seems you're ushering in an errant one. Traitors aside, I've come here with the task of restoring this shithole to its former glory as the number one murder capitol of the states.”

“Unfortunately,” Marcus cracks his knuckles, “I'm more in the interest of killing you, and you're not doing much except for pissing me the fuck off.”
>>
>>36904641

“If you touch me, I'll rewind her. You ever see a living thing's time get turned back a touch too far? There aren't many worse ways to d-”

“You're a deadman. God already have a spot in heaven for you?”

The bishop stares back, squinting his eyes, sweat trickling upon his brow, “Of course. But it won't be as easy as you think to kill me, especially if you want her alive.”

Marcus stares at the man in silence as Asher's battle carries on behind him in that sand-ridden whirlwind. Nothing to do, nothing to say. The fae that came through the portal watch on from the tree and the parts untouched by the whirlwind.
Steady breathing as he quiets his anger and resolves what to do...

>[] Kill the Bishop, Karen would take death before capture.
>[] Let him do his job. Stress that he'll die unless Karen is released.
>[] Assassinate him. It'll make no difference to you if Templars learn of your ability post-mortem.

Been listening to that during the thread. Thought it fit Asher's fight fairly well.

Is Marcus saying that it makes no difference because he'll be dead himself?
>>
>>36904725
Not like it really matters since this is the last shebang, but when you do perspective shifts in a quest without any indication in the text, it's usually nice to put a little line in there to indicate the break.
>>
>>36904676
I wonder if Bishop would be cowed by a threat to rip his soul apart for mana. Can't go to heaven if you're monster food.

I'm just not going to vote for Marcus' actions because I don't really feel comfortable picking for him. It's like, I know he cares about Saph, but I don't really give a fuck and I just feel really uncomfortable trying to navigate through both keeping Marcus IC and trying to avoid Dran's deathtraps.

>>
>>36905019
It's probably that the choices are all "you're going to get fucked no matter what" options.

>Saph dies, Marcus flips his shit and starts eating people again.
or
>Mission fails.
or
>Marcus dies.

Looks like Marcus dying is going to be the one that wins, though. I wonder if epilogue Asher or Tony implying either of them live will try to raise up a Marcus shade. Would probably be a nightmare and a half if the thing went all yandere for Saph implying she lives
>>
>>36904676
With Karen's life on the line, holding back is not an option.

With the color drained from the area, even with the Reaper's Black and Hellfire red, the color of magic is obscured by the painted visage. Assuming a disarming “at ease” position, hands behind his back, Marcus prepares for an alternative method for the most recent addition to his repertoire, inspired by a jaunt through japan some months ago...

Without warning, he holds his breath, hands melting into his own shadow before his arms disappear as well. With a grim posture obscuring the sheer hatred that his heart beats for with this templar's threat, he invokes what he can let no one see. If these fools practice necromancy and call upon his shade, it'll be known, but it won't matter, not so long as she's alive.

“Forgive me father for I have sinned,” Marcus says aloud, a deathly resurgence to his voice.

The Bishop squints at him, “Excuse me-”

Marcus's arms, having vanished entirely into darkness, shadows surge from his posture, expanding toward the bishop, his ward unaware to keep such dangerous shadows at bay does nothing to halt them as the black claws reach up, covering the holy man's eyes, mouth, and stab into his throat, quickly bursting into hellish claws clad in flame.

The man's entire personage is dragged into the hellfire's shadow as though hell itself had opened up its maw to swallow him down. There's a muffled screaming, a thrashing, and the smell of burning flesh as the fae look on in horror as the man dies far more slowly than Marcus could have promised.

Only once the man has vanished do the shadows recede and Marcus's hands reform. The ache twisting through his flesh, forcing him to take a knee from the pain as his arms tremble violently. “It still needs more work,” he resolves.
>>
>>36904676
>[] Kill the Bishop, Karen would take death before capture.
Marcus isn't fast enough and goes mad when Bishop kills Saph
>[] Let him do his job. Stress that he'll die unless Karen is released.
Bishop kills Saph anyway but also manages to undo our ritual
>[] Assassinate him. It'll make no difference to you if Templars learn of your ability post-mortem.
Maybe the Bishop is a illusion or something.
Probably the least chance of blowing in our face.
Also I want to see Marcus trump card

I go with
>[] Assassinate him. It'll make no difference to you if Templars learn of your ability post-mortem.
>>
>>36905278
An explosion rocks the air beyond the sandstorm and soon it too dissipates leaving the Dervish staring down at a crippled Asher. She approaches the man, then looks over to the tree, blinking once, then twice, taking a breath, and walking away.

Her mission a failure, she whispers.

“I walk in peace.”

>>
>>36904676
>[] Assassinate him. It'll make no difference to you if Templars learn of your ability post-mortem.

-Ambient

The Dervish walks over the marble sand and rubble as the power of the astral portal overtakes her consecrated ground. She sees the statue falling apart, his power nearly at an end, a few of his aggressors dead, crushed underfoot or otherwise missing. The limit of bones, such ability to transform, yet they cannot sustain such grande posturing for too long. In the end, he's reduced to fighting in his miniature form, condensed yet still just as sluggish. For a moment, he turns to the Dervish to plead for help, yet the distraction proves to be fatal as a knocked arrow pierces him through the head.

She makes no move to assist him. He may even think that the bishop's magic will revive him again. He doesn't even realize that there's no point anymore. The others bar her passage, another knocked flies for her only to pass through her visage harmlessly. As she looks at the sharpshooter, he freezes in disbelief.
Could he have missed? No, his aim had been dead on.

The arrow continues sailing on to puncture the earth, the impact like a shot from a cannon into some other poor historic building.

A mirage. Never exactly where she should have been, it's a subtle ability but makes for demoralizing enemies.

She is the desert, and she walks back to her wars on distant shores.

~Weeks later.

The Chicago skyline has grown higher with verdant green foliage populated by dancing lights flitting about even into the evening twilight where they find their hollows and homes to sleep while the monsters and unsavories come out to play in the streets illuminated only by the moon.

The people that stayed found comfort in the healing of their sores and ills as they change into nigh-immortal elvish, pointed ears, and fair skin, not all with precisely lithe bodies. One standing watch during the day notices a rocket's flair in the far distance, and sends out an alarm concerning the impending attack.

Word reaches the knifed ears of the hero and king of the city, he walks from his wooden throne on wooden feet, calling for his sword.

His allies left him for other, less beautiful horizons, one of his consorts following suit with promise to return for good someday.

“What will you do, husband?” A lovely fawn with entwined branches weaving around her ears.

“I will protect the blue goddess and our land.”
>>
>>36906547

“You surprise me.” His wife muses as he is brought a sword by a female attendant, the fawn takes it in her hands, marveling at its make as she draws it from its sheath to present it to her lord husband in turn.
“She is beautiful.”

“Indeed.” A wooden hand wraps around the hilt as he walks for the open balcony to inspect the flare in the sky. “How do I surprise you? I gave Wyld my word before the fae.”

“That you did.” The Fawn steps back from her husband, twirling her hair as she watches.

The one-eyed king stares up at the flare in the sky. It's distant, yet it is indeed a missile, likely a nuke to wipe this smudge off the map as the United States would see it. Man's affront to nature continues. Drawing his blade across his sword, the tip barely touching the floor, he taps into his magic and lets out a slow sigh as he begins an incantation.

“I am the king of forest's ire
for he, clad in her love
her defense is my desire.
My blade Aeirth guards the grove
I cleave the heavens in their defense
Return its fire from here hence.”

“Daylight glass defends the grass.”

With a sweep of the blade, a streak seems to cut the sky in twain, his eye locked on the missile. As it erupts from the blade of fire, his free wooden hand reaches out as though to grasp the inferno as it erupts from the warhead. A wave, and the lot of it is returned to the sky. The blessed children cheer for the fireworks display.

As the One-Eyed Hero-King starts to return to his throne, his wife grabs him by the hand, “Husband.” Her voice drips with a need that he is not unfamiliar with, the need that cannot be ignored. Passing his sword off to a female assistant, he leads his wife to their bedchambers...

>>36906571

The One-Eyed Hero-King, the Ash.
In his kingdom of Seelie Fae, there lies tree with a dormant portal as it wanes from the departure of Samhain. A painter there harvests the pigments from the summer flowers as they bloom in the middle of December. A woman, once drained of color has been laid beneath glass and painted every color of the most beautiful blue as she lay frozen in time by the spell of a defeated enemy.

This painter, watches the Blue Goddess and her garden of colors, as they all wait for her to be freed from such a curse.

The story they've woven, between The Ash and The Wyld, is that she'll awaken once the world recognizes her existence. And as such, The Ash made a promise with The Wyld before the fae. That he would remain here and protect this place and the people until she returned. Satisfied, The Wyld left.

The Goddess' glass is never without offerings.

Yet the king is not without his troubles. Never is he seen walking the streets at night, t'is the reason for curfew. For evil things do bump about, and one longs for his head. At times, the king suffers sleepless nights as the demon, his hunter, fills his dreams with dread.

Friend's speech will probably be my favorite and the most iconic part of Overhuman. He's the one that really introduces the situation, what's going on, and why all this crazy shit is happening.
What's more, he pulls a Morpheus with three pills.

I'll be here for a while to answer any questions either here or on Ask.

I want to say first of all though, it's been a pleasure writing for you gentleman. I feel like this is the first quest I've put to a proper end.

>>Questions
>Did you originally have a direction in mind for the quest? Like, did you know how you wanted to end things?

I did, but it quickly got derailed with the player voted exclusion for ZG activities as well as my own oncoming school date. After I realized how small a part Asher really plays on the global scale that I have in mind for the Oververse I also quickly see that Asher's sole perspective is inefficient to give the readers a real look at everything.

>Also, how sweet was the Lucia-ending you had planned? I want to know, even if it hurts me to hear.

I'd need to walk through it more to really see the Lucia ending. There was also something of a disconnect similar to what actual Luciferians suffer from today in regards to acquiring minions.

>>36907866
>What the fuck was Marcus?
I can't quite say for the fact that ZG doesn't end here.

>I want Wallie interludes.
I'll be sure to include his perspective. And stress that fact that he almost always wears flip-flops.

>Who taught Violet how to summoning?
Someone in ZG eventually, Saph actually knew her from LA.

>Does Henry like it that King Douchebag has to lock his doors at night for fear of Donneth?
He left before finding out.
>Tetra sisters stuff?
Mayyybe.
>Did Asher ever talk to any other astrals as potentials to be summoned or does he just not bother with that shit?
Pretty much hooked up with Odin and the fae. After the previous stresses of the astrals and a lingering aversion to Lucia, he abstained from stirring the astral shitstorm any more.
