You are Shee Hyul, rebel and psychic. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

You are getting ready for a night mission, after resting for the day. You have recovered a little from your injuries, though your ribs are still tender.

[HP 10/16]

“Why are we hitting a convoy?” asks Lirael, your new roommate.

“*We* aren’t doing anything” you repeat yourself, this is the third time you’ve had this conversation “Me and some other people are hitting the convoy, you will hide nearby and not make a sound.”

“But I want to help!” she whines “I’m bored.”

“No” you say, “now be quiet, I’m trying to read.”

Lirael isn’t the only one who gets bored easily. A day of convalescence didn’t sit easily with you, you went looking for something to do and wound up borrowing some books off a friend. You’ve almost finished *The Salesmans Handbook: How To Sell Yourself*, it reads like a load of bullshit, models, behavioural tricks, you think whoever wrote this must be a real piece of work. Still, some of it makes sense.

You’re not the most sociable person, but maybe being nicer to people will help win them over, maybe, whatever. Some of the books words have stuck in your head a little.

It’s almost evening and you put the book down and start getting ready, you’ll be out in the open so both you and Lirael will need full body coverings, you don’t know if vampires can get duster lung and you don’t want to find out. Fortunately you have plenty of ragged clothes up to the task, and the dust ingrained into each set will help camouflage you both.
>>
Lirael puts up a fuss about the full body wrap, especially her wings being bound up around her body but you insist, the few trips you’ve taken outside tell you there’s a dust storm on the way, a big one. You asked Charun about calling the mission off, but he seems convinced that it won’t hit until after you’ve taken the convoy, wishful thinking.

Ah yeah, Charun...you asked Lirael about why she is so afraid of him, and what she’s seen in his head, she refused to answer, only saying that he was bad, and when you pushed her, she burst into tears. You backed off with the questions and spent the next half-hour trying to cheer you up. Still, Charun has been a rebel a long time, finding out he’s done bad things to people wouldn’t surprise you. Hell, the supplies you’re stealing tonight are going to be sold on the black market.

You meet up with the others, Lirael in tow, you spin the same line of bullshit about her being your cousin.

“Bit risky to take her with us Shee” comments Rhydian.

“Can’t leave her on her own” you say “She’ll just hide nearby until we’re done.”

Charun and Rhydian both look sceptical but don’t argue. Rainya doesn’t look bothered, and Dev...Dev is trying to make friends with Lirael, sat on the floor of the hideout chatting to her and playing kids games with her.

Charun calls Dev over, Lirael follows and hugs you with one arm, keeping you between her and Charun “This” says Charun, spreading out a hand-drawn map is part of the route of the supplies convoy, it’s a small run, only three trucks, we’d hit something bigger but we don’t have enough people. The trucks go from Hive 17 to Hive 39 and break from the desert highway here” he points to the map “trying to avoid the sink-sands they’ll take this road through the foothills, plenty of narrow valleys there to trap them, they’ll be wary of ambushes, but it’s miles of rock, they won’t know when or where we’ll strike.”

“So what’s the plan?” asks Rainya.
>>
“The Cellanite we got” says Charun “Make a lot of explosives, I’ve a valley picked out the convoy will be going through, we’ll blast both ends, throwing a lot of gravel and rock on the road, trapping them. We’ll get the drivers out and then take the trucks.”

“And how will we get past the rubble?” you ask

“My truck will be fitted with a ‘dozer blade” explains Charun, “I’ll clear a path big enough to get the trucks out.”

“What about defences?” asks Rhydian.

“The drivers are all armed” says Charun “Shotguns usually, but aren’t paid well enough to die for their cargo, they’ll surrender.”

“And if they don’t?” asks Dev continuing “and if they do, are we going to leave them out in the foothills?”

“They will” says Charun firmly “And when they do, yes, we’ll leave them.” Seeing the protesting looks he adds “As soon as we start, they’ll signal Hive Security forces, which can be there in maybe a half-hour, we won’t have long to get the trucks out of sight and wait for the search to die down. When it does we’ll get to the meeting point with my contacts, the drivers won’t be out in the open for long.”

After going over the plan a few times, you’re ready to depart.

You and Rainya are to hang back and provide covering fire, you with your new rifle, Rainya with your old one. Once the trap is sprung, Dev, Rhydian and Charun will get the drivers out of the trucks. Rhydian, Dev and Rainya will drive the three trucks, Charun will drive his own, and you will ride with Charun, on lookout.

“Are you ready?” asks Charun finally

“Sure” you say to Charun “lets go.”

Charun drives you out to the ambush site and you all take up positions as Lirael runs off to hide.

And you wait, and wait. And you wait.

You and Rainya are up high, concealed behind large spires of rocks, Charun, Dev and Rhydian are down low near the road, hiding behind boulders. Lirael is hidden some distance away. The wind is starting to pick up, and from your vantage point you can see Charun and Rhydian arguing, seems Rhydian isn’t as patient as you.

Where are the trucks? They must be an hour overdue already, did they get delayed, take another route, what?

Finally you hear the rumble of engines, ah finally. You see Rhydan break off arguing with Charun and take up position. Throughout it all Rainya and Dev has been waiting patiently. You’ve held it together, but you could really do with some Slowdown right now, just a tab, or maybe two. No chance of that though, Charun hates you using on missions, so you didn’t bring anything with you.

And speaking of patience, what is really trying yours right now isn’t the trucks but rather...

-Please can I watch, please?- the voice in your head isn’t yours for once, its Liraels, and she wants to watch the fight, through your eyes. According to her she can just skim enough from your mind to see what you see and hear what you hear, without reading your mind fully, she seems to be telling the truth, you haven’t got a headache, yet.

-I’m bored- send Lirael –I wanna watch-

Can Lirael watch the fight through your eyes?

“Ok fine” you whisper “but quit it if I tell you, or if things get to gory.”

-Ok- she responds. You feel a slight pressure at the back of your skull, but it’s not painful.

The trucks enter the valley, going slow. The road here is rough and narrow, they won’t be able to turn around.

As planned explosions erupt at both ends of the short valley, covering the road in two piles of rocks, gravel and dust. The trucks come screeching to a halt, and through your scope you can see drivers on cabs thumping the dashboard, screaming into their radios, and one very fat driver is grinning like a madman and stroking the barrel of his shotgun, oh boy looks like you’ve got a wannabe hero here.

Still, Rhydian, Dev and Charun can probably handle him, and if they can’t....you take careful aim on the man who appears to have a personal relationship with his firearm.

Charun is yelling at all of the drivers to stay in their trucks, waving his plasma pistol at them. They seem to get the point, good for them, if he shoots them with that thing their charred bodies will need to be cut out of the melted wrecks.

Rhydian and Dev work as a team, pulling one of the drivers out of his cab and tying him up, before moving on to the second one.

Then things deviate from the plan.

The hero dives out of his vehicle, stumbling as he hits the floor, the blasts from his shotgun going wild as a result, missing Dev and Rhydian as they both dive for cover, the shells he’s firing explore into brilliant sprays of plasma as they hit the rocks, great, Inferno rounds, his gun is almost as dangerous as Charuns pistol.

Charun calmly takes cover behind a rock and aims his pistol carefully at the guy, who is now running forward and trying what he perhaps fondly thinks of as a combat roll whilst screaming about *colonists rights* and *the coreworld rejuvenant conspiracy.*
>>
Still, his distraction allows the last truck driver to do something smarter. A panel on the last truck opens and 4 thick metal plates rise out, oh joy, combat drones. If you just had a decent rig you could turn them to your purpose.

Appearing as circular disks of metal with a pistol-sized laser gun on the top, the four drones rise up using their hover engines and start circling around the last truck. At the same time, that truck moves forward, forcing its way past the middle truck despite the narrow road, the screeching of metal telling you that neither truck got off lightly and he pushes forwards slowly.

The gun-pod combat drones follow, but don’t attack Charun, Dev or Rhydian, they could be following a Guard command, maybe, if they are they’ll only attack someone who attacks them or the truck.

Or they could be on Follow – in which case they’ll attack anything their AI classifies as *hostile*.

Charun is aiming at the guy with the shotgun, Rainya is looking at you nervously, as if awaiting orders. Dev and Rhydian are in cover.

What do you do?

“Distract the gun-pods” you say to Rainya “split up if you have to.”

Rainya nods and separates into two, her double is wearing identical clothes, but doesn’t have a gun, huh, weird.

The Rainya with the gun fires at the gun-pods, two of them fly over to her, firing bursts of laser energy at her, continuous beams of light that briefly connect the gun-pod with its target by a long beam of light.

The shots make burn-marks against the rock Rainya is hiding behind, and then her double runs from cover to hide behind another boulder. The two gun-pods split up, each trying to hit a Rainya as both of her run and hide behind different rocks.

With them occupied you take careful aim at the trucks tyres and squeeze the trigger. The trucks juddering motion as it scrapes past rock and the other truck spoils your aim however and your bullet missed the tyre, striking the chassis of the truck harmlessly, you curse under your breath.

-You missed- observes Lirael

“I noticed” you growl.

Charuns pistol blasts a stream of brilliant energy at the shotgun-waving driver and he explodes, damn, must have been carrying a lot of inferno rounds. The explosions bright flare fades and you see Dev and Rhydian using solid ammo pistols to fire at the two gun-pods circling the moving truck, drawing them off, but not hitting them.

Charun is calmly walking around the immobile lead truck, putting himself firmly in the path of the moving one, you’re not sure what he’s up to.

Rainya keeps dancing around the cover, both of her, as the one with the gun fires at the gun-pods, but misses. The gun-pod chasing the Rainya without a gun hits her leg with a laser blast and she goes down screaming, but still moving.

Dev and Rhydian keep firing at the gun-pods circling them. Rhydian hits his but other than knocking it sideways his shot doesn’t do anything, maybe his pistol is just not powerful enough. Devs shot goes wild. The gun-pods fire back at both guys, but don’t manage to hit them.

You take careful aim at the trucks wheel and fire again. This time your shot hits and the tyre goes flat, the trucks slow progress turning into a crawl.

Charun stands plants himself firmly in front of the truck and points his plasma pistol at the cab, holding his gun in a two-handed grip he yells at the truck driver to surrender, or else.

After a tense moment the truck driver climbs out of his cab, hands in the air. Charun secures him and then reaches into the truck and after a little fumbling hits the right button. The gun-pods fly back to the truck and settle into a bay on top of the truck, the fight is over.

-Is that all?- asks Lirael

“A short fight is a good fight” you whisper.

With the two surviving truck drivers restrained, you help Rainya down the slope, seems her leg wasn’t hit that bad, or maybe her recombining with her double healed her a bit or something. Either way she’s limping, but can walk.

Charun uses his truck to clear a path through the gravel and you all drive to the meeting points, getting there before Charuns contact. Lirael rides with you, but stays in Charuns truck, you don’t want her mixed up in this, though you do notice a familiar pressure at the back of your skull.
>>
As you’re standing around waiting, Rhydian takes a look in the back of one of the trucks and whistles, impressed. Out of curiosity you join him, seeing row upon row of medical transport boxes, labelled with all sorts of complex-sounding names. You see bandages, blood reserves, medical equipment you don’t even recognise.

“So how much?” you ask Charun.

“Twenty-five k per truck” he says

“There’s more than that here” says Rainya with some certainty.

“Yeah” says Charun “A quarter-mil per truck, but our cut is *twenty-five.*”

That’s still a lot of money. But even a small amount of those supplies would save a lot of lives in Dust Town, plus the blood units would be good for Lirael, though without any means of keeping them cold they won’t last longer than a day.
And no one said anything about gun-pod drones, the buyers probably won’t care if you took them, though the trucks control rig will be integrated into its systems, removing it properly will take hours. Still as long as you can find a computer you can slave the drones to that.

Before the black market arrives, what do you do?

>Nothing, no sense in antagonising anyone

You climb into the cab of the truck with the gun pods and activate them. Everyone jumps a little at that but you order them to fly into the back of Charuns truck and deactivate, they do so.

[4 Gunpods gained]

Everyone else just stands around waiting for the contact to show.

You then climb into the back of the truck, grabbing as many of the blood bags as you can carry and take them back to Charuns truck.

“Woah” says Charun, stepping in front of you “What’re you doing with those?”

“It’s just blood” you say “Your buyers want the drugs and the equipment, they don’t want the blood.”

“I already told you” you say “It’s for the Gouger” you feel your face going warm, hoping he’ll believe you.

“Oh Shee, I’m so sorry” says Charun quietly, stepping out of your path and putting a hand on your shoulder “I know right now he probably makes you feel better than anything, but one day he’ll throw you away, or hurt you badly, just know that when that happens I’ll be there to help, ok?” He motions to the truck and says loud enough that the others can hear him “Good thinking Shee, the Dusters clinics always need clean blood, and my buyers won’t notice such a small amount missing.”

Well he doesn’t seem to have bought it, but at least he’s doesn’t suspect Lirael. You hand her the bags saying “Not until we’re home, ok?”

“Ok” she says quietly, she doesn’t seem too eager to drink blood from a bag anyway.

Eventually the buyers show, a group of serious-looking men in casual clothes. Some are carrying weapons, some just have odd bulges under their clothes, and one is a cyborg, huh, you thought they had serious problems with Dust, but he doesn’t seem bothered, or at least you think it’s a he – looks like an industrial mining robot, only vaguely human-shaped.

Charun and one of the men talk quietly, as they all glare at your group, finally, after checking the trucks they hand Charun a plastic card and they drive off in their vehicles, with some manning the trucks.

Charun turns to all of you, looking old, and tired, dark is falling and the wind is getting stronger, you’ve got less than an hour before a full dust storm hits.

“Lets go” says Charun to all of you. You all pile into the truck and Charun drives. You manage to get back to Charuns place and stash the truck just as the dust storm hits. Before you all go your separate ways Charun speaks to you.

No, I would still be mad even if we would have miracously succeeded, because >>36914604
would still be true.
We KNEW this was going to happen. You had 12! hours to think of spinning this into negotiating.
>>
>>36914655
Then it's also what he'd think after we brick the roll with your shitty write-in, and we have to assume the result of the rolls would've been identical.
>>
“I know this might not feel like it” he says “But today was a win, a big one” he waves the card “We’ve got 75,000 credits here, it’s going to take me a while to figure out the next mission, but there’s an armoury sale in a week, and we’re going to get you some proper weapons, maybe armour too, until then, get some rest” he looks at all of you, but gives you an especially hard look before adding “now go on, go.” You all head out into the thick blizzard of dust, you tow Lirael behind you, until it becomes painfully obvious that she can see easily in the greyout, much better than you. You let her lead you back to your hovel.

Undressing you shake as much of the dust out of your clothes as you can, you’re so tired, despite resting for a day and only a short battle you just want to sleep. But you have a week until Charun will need you. You’ll need to be at work as much as you can, but your evenings are your own.

“Drink it all” you say to Lirael “It’ll only go bad otherwise”.

“Ugh this tastes horrible” says Lirael, but obediently drinks all of the blood you gathered.

Then Lirael asks the question that is plaguing you, is she reading your mind again?

“Shee” Lirael asks “Are you going to keep hunting the Gouger?” crimson stains her mouth after biting so many bags.

Whatever you do, a few days rest first might be a good idea.

How many evenings will you rest?

We have an untraceable connection with talking to him, so why would we not talk to him over it?

Because its explicitly not untraceable?
And its about Charun suspecting something, so I want to be sure, if we get into a situation where we can't be alone for a while, he doesn't wonder why we stopped talking to him. No matter when that might be.
>>
>>36914735

Except that Charun clearly is suspicious, and obviously got more tech than he lets on.
Not to mention, we have no idea what might happen, he should know people someone knows something is up, so he doesn't wonder why we act weird at some point.
Like not taking his calls when the others are around.
>>
>>36914685
I voted for lying in this way because I was pretty sure Charun would assume we were just denying it out of pride if we failed, as I stated about a half-dozen times. I was right.

I didn't make one myself because I didn't believe it was necessary.

>>36914676
Maybe you saw it that way, but I didn't, and, evidently, neither did several other anons. Assuming Charun, who is pretty racist, would see it the way you did seems a bit foolish.
>>
>>36914756
Yes I get it's about Charun expecting something, but that doesn't mean we can't talk online, there's like no fucking reason for that not to happen.

> if we get into a situation where we can't be alone for a while
Unless we botch a mission I doubt that's going to happen
>>
>>36914778
>who is pretty racist
We have literally no evidence whatsoever of this being the case.
He didn't give us shit for being a blood-whore, and the only thing he said is that some rich vampires don't take no for an answer, which is probably more often true than not.
>>
>>36914777
>>36914756
Charun is suspicious that we're being fed upon.

That requires contact in real life. He doesn't give a flying fuck otherwise
>>
>>36914785
>but that doesn't mean we can't talk online
Yes it does, especially in moments when Charun is around or the other rebells, which might happen any time.
>>
>>36914798
>He doesn't give a flying fuck otherwise
He definitly gives a fuck when we get contacted by someone from the Hive who is obviously not our employer.
I have no idea what your problem is, how does it hurt us to tell Ash someone knows we have contact? Its just a safety measure.
>>
>>36914802
Why don't we just talk in our shack then? Like we have been, because we're in complete privacy there?
>>
>>36914818
Because he might call us when we are not in our shack?
Because he can't know where we are when he calls?
I don't want him to think we threw him away after that fight and we got our gun. I might not like the guy, but he is useful to us.
>>
>>36914817
I don't really mind about telling Ash things, but saying we have to go dark which is a complete lie, especially after how angry he was last time, seems like a fucking stupid idea.
>>
So I'm seeing

The actual conversation with Ash will include options on what to tell him/not tell him.
>>
>>36914830
>but saying we have to go dark
The write-in doesn't say that at all. It tells him it might happen.
>>
>>36914828
>Because he might call us when we are not in our shack?
It's not like we have to pick up. It's not like we use voice calls either, we use text. On top of that he hasn't been sending us messages willy-nilly so I don't see your problem there either.

Just wait until we're back at the shack to reply to his messages, done and dusted
>>
>>36914828
>I might not like the guy
What has he done to make you not like him? I'm curious.
>>
>>36914851
>It's not like we have to pick up.
Dude is really clingy, in case you haven't realise that.
>>
>>36914860
...No, he isn't? Where are you getting that from?
>>
>>36914856
I don't need a particular reason to "not especially like someone". I don't dislike him either, I'm fairly neutral over him.
His hissy fit about our perfectly reasonable response why he can't come annoyed me, but he also helped us, so it evens out for me.
>>
>>36914868
We haven't seen him for three years.
He sees us once again, and starts calling us his girlfriend.
Yeah.
>>
>>36914882
That really doesn't back up your point considering it was taken out of context
>>
>>36914868
The fact that he was so heavily offended by us not taking him into Dust Town, despite perfectly good reasons, and his behaviour otherwise definitly shows that.
Not to the point of unhealthyness, maybe, but I can see what he means.
>>
>>36914896
No it wasn't at all.
Thats the word he used. It doesn't have a different meaning in context.
>>
>>36914873
I thought that was less the reason he gave (he thinks we think he's weak) and more being upset about not being able to help his friend after she said she's hunting down a super-vampire. If it had been a full-grown Graced, we easily could've died by going alone. If we didn't have our psionic abilities (which he doesn't know about), we probably would've.

>>36914910
He didn't start calling us that with any frequency or repeatedly though, he slipped up once and corrected himself afterwards. Not really a surprising slip-up, given the situation.
>>
>>36914957
>Not really a surprising slip-up, given the situation.
Not sure I can agree with that, but I can understand that his wishful thinking got the better of him, and its not like Shee has not given him at least some reason to hope for that.
But the point remains. I'm not calling a yandere for it, but its still shows a certain clingyness, especially since we know that vampires get posessiv of their feeders, so its not very surprising either.
>>
You decide you can spend a few days resting, and in that time you find out more about Lirael. She seems to trust you and is always happy to talk, but some of what she says is coloured by her perceptions, and some you think might be made up.

Liraels family lived on spaceships a lot, her father was like her – a winged vampire. Her mother was a more ordinary vampire. They used mental tricks and her mothers command over something called the *lifeweb* to hide what they are.

“Being a different shape is weird” says Lirael “pretending to be older or another species is ok, but one time mummy turned into a *boy* and did you know they have a-”

Yes Lirael, you know, boys are very icky....

She tells you about some of the things she’s seen, either she is making things up or the galaxy is a much weirder place than you know.

“And they have these really big machines called Terror-Firmers that make dead planets into green ones with plants and everything” Lirael explains, sounds impossible.

“And the bug men, the Serk, they capture whole planets and eat people or turn them into psychics” Lirael tells you. Yeah, invading bug-monsters, you’ll keep an eye out.

“And the whole ship was alive and it talked to us and it knew what we were but said that was ok and it could use magic, Mummy said it was the strongest mage she’s ever met.” Living ships with AI capable of using *magic*? Ok, now she’s just making it up.

And so the days pass and you get used to living with Lirael, and she slowly gets used to living in dust town. Having glutted herself on the blood bags, Lirael doesn’t need any more in the days you rest, nor does she complain of being hungry, though she doesn’t know how long she can go between feedings.

On the last evening there’s a text from Ash.

-Shee, have you heard the news about Versmuth?- You recall Sir Galryn Versmuth is the Gifted Governor of Hive 39, your Hive. You recall some gossip in the office yesterday about him being in trouble. You guess Ash is picking a general topic to avoid a fight maybe, or maybe he’s gotten over himself.

Ah well, time to have this conversation.

-He’s in trouble or something?- You text back

-Yeah!- comes the quick reply –Reaper is sending a personal agent to oversee his office due to security concerns or something- Ah. Lord Salvur Reaper, The Silent Breath of Fate, is the Kings right hand man, his hatchet man. Supposedly he’s actually very charming for a Fae Noble, but his intelligent, driven and utterly ruthless. You shiver at the thought of the sort of agent he’d send to oversee a Hive Governor.

-Sounds bad- you send back.

-Eh- sends Ash –I gotta go to this formal dinner, everyone important has to be there, to officially welcome the agent and put on a big show. Which is why I wanted to ask: Will you go with me? It’s the day after tomorrow. Not as a date or anything, but just as friends.-

-Ash I can’t- you respond –Your family forbade it-

-Gotcha covered- he texts back –Macy and her friends will give you such a makeover no one will recognise you, what do you say?-

What do you say?

Dinner?

If we get Metapsionics, we could get Psychic Shield, but that's not really an immediate solution.

I don't think there are going to be many Fae there and it's probably considered rude to read a guest's mind without just cause for suspicion. So we should probably use those 4 XP to get two ranks of Deception if we decide to go.

>>
>>36915190

>Reaper is sending a personal agent to oversee his office due to security concerns or something

>>
>>36915111
>Lirael is a child and she went into there without a hitch.
Did I miss something? Also, we might want to ask Lirael about ways to protect our mind from being read, she knows more about such things due to having Telepathy abilities.

>>36915151
All 4 XP would only get us to a +0.

>>36915168
If it's less than 500 km away, we could've chosen to go at any time. Teleportation is based off familiarity, and we probably remember the activation chamber decently well.

>>36915153
Fae are super-strict about their traditions like that, usually. It depends on how different these Fae are from traditional Fae.

>>36915190
Since they were established as powerful psionic aliens?

We can get another +1 max with Willpower, Psionic Shield would let us have a much higher bonus against Telepathy.

>Fae are super-strict about their traditions like that, usually. It depends on how different these Fae are from traditional Fae.
They are also known as assholes who love to read the letter of something rather then the spirit. As "feeder" we might not count as person to them, for example.

>>

She read our mind to find out about us having a addiction. And we got one willpower roll to see through her disguise, not sure if we even got to roll on evading her mind-reading.

Thats worse than (-1)+4.

>>36915212
>If it's less than 500 km away, we could've chosen to go at any time.

Evading mind reading or defending against it will only show us out to be a psychic.

If anything I say we need to keep our surface thoughts on our Friend's teeth and our addiction, that'll ward anyone's attention off of us quickly
>>
>>36915212
>We can get another +1 max with Willpower, Psionic Shield would let us have a much higher bonus against Telepathy.
That wasn't meant as a "instead" thing. Just, we also need to buff our willpower.
Not sure if the mind shield is more useful than Healing though.

-Ash I can’t- you send back –I’m sorry, all it takes is one fae or vampire to read my mind and we’d both be in a lot of trouble-

His response is a while in coming -Ok- he texts back –That makes sense I guess-

-If I can get some protection against that- you text back –I might be able to go- You’re not sure if you even want to go, you can think about it.

A change in topic is in order, you tell him about your hunt for the Gouger, avoiding any mention of Lirael, and going light on the gory details, maybe Ash can’t help in person, but he can suggest ideas.

Once you’ve given him all the data about the Gouger there’s a pause and he sends –So you’re planning on hunting him soon, but won’t he kill again soon?-

-Yes- You respond –That’s why I’m hunting him tomorrow, if I leave it any longer, he’ll almost certainly kill again-

-But you told me you had no leads- he sends back –This thing hunts over a wide area so it’ll take too long to search the whole place, seems the only thing you can do is wait until it kills again and then try to follow the trail-

He’s not wrong about the lack of leads. Lirael couldn’t remember anything about the Gouger except for a vague memory about the sound of whistling, like someone whistling a tune.

Wait, Lirael is a pretty good mind reader, could she locate the Gouger somehow?

What do you do?

-I’m really sorry I can’t have you with me on this hunt- you send –maybe you can look into finding a way to protect against mind-reading for me, then we can work something out-

His reply takes a few minutes –I suppose I can do that- he sends

-But that doesn’t mean we can’t meet up- you send –How about just you and I get together one evening?-

-Like a date- His use of a picture means his question is supposed to be a joke.

-Not like a date- you send back –just two friends catching up-

-Ok- comes the very quick reply –What do you want to do? And when?-

What do you want to do?

>Visit Ashs home (sleepover? Y/N)
>The two of you go out dancing
>Dancing with Ash and friends
>Dinner and a movie
>Other (what?)

And when?

>What day/evening?

Timeline; Tonight you rest, tomorrow you hunt the Gouger, the following night is the guest dinner, the night after is free, the night after that Charun said you would be buying weapons.

You can do something in the day of course, not the evening.

>>
>>36916016

I would assume if Ashley literally only has friends that are also tight with Quinn, he would tell us, and then we don't invite anyone. Its not like he is a complete moron.

>The two of you go out dancing

Quinn took Ash under his wings, it may be kind of rude not inviting such "good friend"
>>
>>36916016
>requesting medical supplies, using his information matrix thing, requesting another gun or some such
Thats the extent of the list.
And the ordering of a gun and supplies we can't do at all. Only he can, and he can do that with us being at his house or not.
And I don't want to get another gun of him so soon, he has done more than enough for us, we start getting across as really fucking demanding.
>>
Ok untangling these votes is a little difficult, but I believe the winners were

You and Ash go out dancing, maybe a dinner before dancing (to be decided later)

And that you'd stay at his place.

After the guest dinner seems a clear winner.
>>
>>36916034
If we request to with his friends, aside from him saying "No", there isn't anything he can do.

And he's not going to say "no"
>>
>>36916053

No it didn't most votes did not include that and for good reason. We can't make the curfew back to Lirael.
>>
>>36916053
I'm perfectly okay with changing my vote to just dancing and dinner with Ash.
But
>
And that you'd stay at his place.
I'm against. And I see no reason for us to do that.
>>
>>36916053
>And that you'd stay at his place.
Nope.

But I'm >>36915809
willing to go dancing just with him if we assume he is brainddead enough to invite Quinn. Or friendless enough, I guess.
>>
>>36916053
No problem with dinner and dancing.

Not okay with spending the night at his place, and I don't think a lot of other people are either. I'm fine with visiting his home (maybe for the dinner? Does Ash cook?), but not with spending the night.
>>
>>36916054

But you might be right. I concede that much.
>>
>>36916065
>>36916072
>>36916080
Pally's probably including it because some people voted for dancing and then staying the night at his place, as well as the people who just wanted to stay at his place.
>>
>>36916136
No, even counting all versus those that didn't include it at all it didn't win.
>>
So if we drink a Vampire's blood we become a Dhampir then? Is it based of off which Vampire we drink from?
>>
>>36916136
Still doesn't win.
8/19 votes only include any kind of staying at his house. And thats even counting the not proerply linked "this" votes.
>>
>>36916156
Dhampir's haven't been mentioned yet.
It's been implied that vampires can torn normal mortal people into full vampires somehow, but that's all we know about it.

>>36916159

>>
>>36916173

>>
Just to forestall the argument, I am listening, and I'm switching to not staying the night because of Lirael.
>>
>>36916176
I'm sorry, I don't understand at all what that sentence was supposed to mean.
>>
>>36916189
If you force the staying at his House on us despite it not being in the majority of votes, at LEAST let us stay BEFORE we go dancing and dinner, so we have no risk of missing our curfew.
>>
>>36916189
>>36916204
I don't like his tone, but I agree with meeting at his house before going instead of afterwards as compromise.
Still not happy about it, but you will know what you do I guess.
>>
>>36916173
Read the setting sheet. We could become a "Created Dhampir" by drinking a vampire's blood.

>>36916156
I don't think it changes based off the vampire's powers. It's basically just being a Dhampir but unable to regenerate your Vitae and requiring vamp blood to keep using your powers.

>>36916176
A what?

>>36916185
Not quite.

>>36916204

>>
>>36916185

>>
>>36916218
>ultimate fetish option
Not sure that many people have a blood drinking fetish.
But besides that, becoming a dhampire would be pretty useful.
And we got a constant supply of vampire blood right next to us all the time.
I'm sure over time we could come to a quid pro quo arrangement.
>>
>>36916218

A fetish is basically everything that can arrouse you in some fashion, and I'm sure it does to some people.
>>
>>36916278
Yeah, and using it as argument (lol) to justify for or against it just plain stupid and tiresome.
>>
>>36916319
Haven't seen that yet.
But the simple fact is, some people, do have a fetish for the whole biting thing, and are clearly voting for getting it. As evidenced by the write-ins last time we visited Ashleys house that even creeped AA and Pally out, and thats no small feat.
>>
>>36916340
Or they could have just, you know, been roleplaying the whole "addict" thing.

> that even creeped AA and Pally out, and thats no small feat.
AA said it WAS a small feat, and I don't remember Pally ever saying anything.

-How about we go out dancing again- you send to Ash –the night after the dinner to welcome the VIP-

-Great- he sends back, -I’ll let Quinn and the others know-

-No- you send back –Just us, we hardly got a chance to talk with Quinn and the others around-

-Ok- he sends back –Will getting out of the gate late be a problem?-

-I’ll figure something out- you send back

-You could always stay at my place- he sends –Watson can easily make up a spare bed-

-I can’t- send back, looking over at the sleeping Lirael, honestly you don’t know if you would or not, it seems far too tempting, but with Lirael to look after you certainly can’t.

-Ok- he sends –When and where do you want to meet?-

You arrange a diner to meet Ashley at, maybe the two of you can have dinner before going out, or maybe just a drink.

-Ok- he agrees –See you then-

-See you then- you say, and then lie down, trying to sleep, trying to ignore the thrill of that old feeling, your heart racing, so very keenly aware of the blood rushing in your veins and what it would feel like to let it out...

---

The next day work seems to take forever. It was Rainyas day off and she agreed to look after Lirael – who has strict instructions about what is ok, and what isn’t.

Finally you get back from work, and get ready to look for the Gouger, there’s a knock at the door, ah that must be Rainya and Li- yes it is.

“Hi cousin” say Lirael pleasantly, having fallen into the role with ease “We had a great day” she starts to tell you all about it. Rainya sidles up to you and says quietly “Charun wants to see us all now, says it will only take a few minutes.”
>>
>>36916365
Talk of getting into his pants and getting "penetrated", is not role-playing an addict, I think you think of the wrong write-in.
That one I aslo voted for before Pally made it clear we are not that addicted.
>>
>>36916384
>Talk of getting into his pants and getting "penetrated"
Were not the things voted for.
>>
You roll your eyes in frustration, but you can spare a few minutes. You and Lirael follow Rainya to Charuns shed. Once everyone is there Charun speaks “Ok, you might have heard, but an agent of the Reaper is coming to the Hive, big deal, I don’t care if he strangles the Governor. But the Governor has captured a dozen dusters, and claims they are rebels – he plans to execute them after the dinner, to show the agent he’s on top of things.”

Rainya gasps, Dev looks upset, with his coverings you don’t know what Rhydian is thinking. Lirael hugs you.

Charuns face takes on a dour, but determined look “I wanted you to know” he says “because we can’t launch any kind of rescue attempt. It’s a party with hundreds of the wealthiest fae and vamps, security will be insane, and the most powerful monsters will be there.”

“But those men” says Rainya “Are just going to die?”

“Dusters die all the time” says Rhydian “Is that all? Can we go?”

“Are any of them rebels?” asks Dev

“I can’t say” says Charun evenly “and yes, that’s all.”

As you leave Charuns shed your thoughts are whirling. Sure, everything Charun said made sense, breaking in or attacking will just get people killed. And even an inside job would be the hardest thing you’ve ever done...

Of course, if you’re going to do this you probably shouldn’t hunt the Gouger tonight, you might get too beaten up to attend.

What do you do?

>No change to plan (hunt Gouger, do not go to party)
>Change plan (do both)
>Change plan (party not Gouger)
>Other (what?)
>>
>>36916252
I wonder if we drank Lirael's blood if we would become a super powered dhampir.
The only problem is that people (read: other vampires) would probably notice if we became a dhampir. That would bring about too many awkward questions.

People will complain, as long as its only one or two, that just happens.
To be fair, this kind of thing should maybe be spaced out more, because there are QMs who do that, and some here did not read PoJ and this quest had issues, so a bit of hyper-agression is common in these things. As sad as that might be.

Charun is right, there’s nothing you can do for the dusters now, they’re dead.

[Cynicism increase]

You lead Lirael away from Charuns shed talking to her quietly “Ok, I know you can’t remember anything from before” you say “but I need to find the Gouger, do you think you can pinpoint his mind?”

“I dunno” admits Lirael “maybe, what will his mind be like?”

“I’m not sure” you say “It might be an animal, or a very mean person who likes to hurt others, do you think you can do that?”

“I’ll try” promises Lirael. The two of you spend the evening walking through the Gougers known hunting grounds, as Lirael scans minds and you look for any other clues.

The two of you spend almost an hour looking around Dust Town before Lirael says “I found him, I think.”

“Where?” you ask

“This way” she says and runs off, with you following. It’s now fully dark, and most dusters are inside their homes. You’ve found no physical clues or evidence, but Lirael may have something.

“He’s in there” she says, stopping in front of a dusters shack, no different from any other around you.

“Are you sure?” you say, reading your rifle.

“No” she admits “But there’s a really mean man in there, and he’s hurting someone. It might be the Gouger.”

You listen carefully at the door, you hear the sound of a couple of heavy thumps followed by a loud and angry male voice “I told you no looking at other men bitch!” another thump, followed by a womans scream.

“You worthless slut!” yells the man again, another thump, a female voice pleading, begging, promising she didn’t, another thump.

Lirael is at your side looking very pale and upset “He’s hurting her!” she whispers “Do something Shee!”

With a sick feeling in your stomach you realise what this sounds like. This man may not be the Gouger, but if he’s beating up a defenceless woman he’s no saint either.

I left Hope and Cynicism out of the rules, my mistake, pastebin updated.

Cynicism and Hope are morality meters, rated 1-10. At higher ratings than 5 one tends to dominate and reduce the other when it increases.

High Hope gives bonus to Fellowship rolls to inspire people and Willpower rolls to resist emotion-effects that inspire fear and dread.

High Cynicism makes you harder to ambush, deceive or attack by surprise.

Neither restrict character choices, they reflect how the character sees the world, they do not restrict how that person interacts with it.

You kick the door down, it’s fragile construction of wood and tin sheets and easily breaks. You burst into the shack, Lirael behind you.

Inside you see a large overweight man holding a smaller woman up against the wall of the tiny shack by her throat. They both look in their late 20’s – old adults by duster standards. There’s no one other than these two living in this shack as far as you can see.

“What do you want?” asks the man, his fist cocked back to hit the woman again. One of her eyes is swollen shut, and blood streams from her mouth and nose, she’s not making any more to defend herself.

What do you want?

Pretty much, thats why I love it so much. I wish so much life was as simple as redeeming touch would make it and that evil was a real thing so it could be destroyed or contained. But its not... PoJ makes for great escapism though. Makes me wonder if thats what feeling hopeful is like. Its a nice feeling

“Stop hitting her!” you yell at the man.

“Are you gonna make me girlie?” He laughs “this slut doesn’t know what a good thing she has here, all she has to do is behave.”

“Please” says the woman to you “don’t-”

“Shut your whore mouth!” he yells, getting ready to hit her again.

“I am going to make you” you say firmly, pulling his gaze back to you, and the rifle pointed at his face.

“You stupid little slut” he growls, letting go of the woman and taking a step towards you.

“One more step and it’s your last” you warn him, he stops. To Lireal you say “That thing I told you not to do before, do it.”

-Like this- she says, a dull pain starting in your head

“Yeah” you say so quietly not even you can hear it, but Lireal picks up on your thoughts

-What do you want me to do?- She asks

“Can you make him feel the pain he put her through?” you ask.

The man and woman just watch, confused, but not moving.

-I can- she sends –But I’d have to watch him feel it, feel all of it, I don’t know if I can do that, why does he have to feel it?-

“To make him stop being such a wifebeating prick” you whisper

-Oh- says Lireal –You mean let him know he’ll get punished for being bad so he’s not bad anymore, yeah I can judge him, but Mummy said not to unless it was really important-

The man is narrowing his eyes, like he’s calculating whether to jump you, or something, you keep your rifle trained on him but truth is if he yelled that you were a thief, his neighbours might believe him, and might not care how his wife you beat up, you can’t stay here all night.

What do you do?

We could use someone to look after Lirael, so there is that.
Its not a ideal situation, but with our job, I think we can do it.
>>
“You have a choice” you say to the woman “you can leave him right now, and he won’t stop you.” As he opens his mouth to disagree you raise your rifle a little, he closes his mouth.

She looks at you, at him, back at you, back at him, her face seems to fall a little “I can’t” she whispers.

“You can” you insist “if you can cook, or clean or do anything, I know there will be someone who will pay you, we can find someone to help you, look after you-”

“No” she shakes her head “my husband looks after me, he only hurts me when I’ve done something wrong.” Dammit don’t let him win!

He smirks at you and says “Now get out of my house.”

“Lireal” you say quietly “Judge him.”

-But- she protests

“It’s important” you say “do it.”

The pain in your mind fades and Lirael draws herself up to her full height, inhales, and when she exhales, she’s....changed.

One again a tiny angel stands before you, dressed in silver armour and white robes, her white wings spread wide and glowing, a flaming sword in her hand, she turns to the man, her eyes pits of flame.

“Irigan Manzu” she says, as she speaks you feel a very strong urge to kneel, but keep your feet. The man and woman both kneel and cower. Her voice echoes like the word of an angry god.

“I have read your name in the Book of Judgement” she says, it has a practiced, musical quality “sin after sin is recorded under your name, to recite them all would take far too long, wifebeater, thief, betrayer of trust, render of hopes. I judge you guilty of these and more.”

As Irigan cowers she lays her empty hand on his head and he screams, thrashing under her touch but unable to pull away, finally she lets him go and he collapses, weeping.
>>
“That is the fate that awaits you after death” she says as ghostly chains appear, binding his hands and feet, he struggles but the chains are too heavy for him to lift. “Weighed down by your sins you will fall into Hell and suffer, and suffer and suffer.” As she speaks the entire shack goes dim, lit only by the fires in Angel-Lireals eyes, and then light as bright as a clear noon day illuminates the place “But there is hope” she says in a kinder voice “cast off your sin and spend your life making up for your crimes, seek to undo the harm you have done to others” she points to the woman, who flinches “starting with your wife, Dalie.”

The chains on the man break away and fade as Angel-Lireal continues “Do this and you will have redeemed yourself, but every time you slip back into old habits” the shack grows dark and her voice angry “You will remember the Hell you tasted, now be good...” her voice trails off on the last word and then she sways, the angel dissolving, revealing regular Lireal underneath, she falls backwards and you catch her just before she hits the floor, she’s unconscious, but alive.

As you hold her, Irigan weeps and begs, swearing he’ll be good, he’ll do anything to escape that fate. Dalie just watches as you stand up, the limp Lireal in your arms.

“You can still come with” you say to Dalie, she just shakes her head, clearly terrified. You sigh, carrying Lireal out of there.

Well you won’t be hunting the Gouger tonight, you need to get home, Lireal needs to rest.

Back home, when you’re putting her to bed, she rouses “Shee” she mumbles “what happened?”

“You turned into an angel” you say “You judged a man, do you remember?”

“Yes” she mumbles

“What did you do?” you ask

“Made him good” she says “Showed him what would happen if he doesn’t be good.”

Oh...

“How long will it last?” you ask

“All his life” she mumbles.

OH.

“Shee” she says “I’m so thirsty...”
>>
“I’ll get you some water” you say, hoping she’s not thirsty for...

“Not water” insists Lirael “blood, and not goat, I hate goat.” She tries to sit up and fails, laying on your bed, exhausted.

Ah. You might be able to feed her by cutting yourself and letting the blood drain into her mouth, you could find a willing blood donor, a single bite is unlikely to addict them.

Or you could...you could just this once, maybe?

“Alright” you say to Lirael “lie still and open your mouth.” She does as you ask and you retrieve a knife and position your arm over her mouth, hissing in pain as you slice open your own arm, slowly at first blood drips down into Liraels mouth, immediately starts swallowing it and a delicate pink tongue chases over her lips, desperate not to miss a single drop.

This continues for several moments and you see colour return to Lireals features and she starts to stir, looking healthier by the minute.

“I think that’s enough” you say to Lireal, looking away for a moment to grab a cloth to stop your bleeding.

[HP 10/16]

“No!” she whines and lunges, trying to grab your bleeding arm, you pull it back just in time.

“Please!” she begs, looking at your arm dripping blood on the floor “It’s going to waste, please?”

She’s strong enough that if you try dripping blood into her mouth again, she could grab you, which also means she’ll probably be ok with what she’s had, probably. Or you could let her have a bit more, from the source so to speak...

You feel that familiar rush go through you and the iron-hard control you’ve built up over months start to crack a little. If you do this, you’ll want it again and again...

To give players a chance to get to know the potential love interests more, though you did manage to avoid one entirely today.

>>36918424
It was also to allow the playerbase time to stabilize and weed out the undesirable players (samefags, trolls, casuals, other subhumans).
>>
>>36918379
>though you did manage to avoid one entirely today
If we can avoid them like this, then that kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?
And since Ashley gets presented as love interest the entire time both IC and by you in meta, people won't give the other characters any chance, because they get fixated on that one character.
And its not even a unreasonable position, especially when the Qm already says stuff like
"not-date", then people will take that as the character being boyfriend in all but name and will just wait for thread 10 to make it de-facto.
>>
>>36918471
>It was also to allow the playerbase time to stabilize
You don't really need that, if he would have just flat out said he is the LI now after that chargen vote, then a lot of the samefagging wouldn't have happened. The husbandofags would have been content in their victory and people that don't want him as love interest would have known to leave then.

I actually found the people that called it the LI vote back then were being silly because thats a terrible idea, hearing it confirmed is a bit awkward.

>To give players a chance to get to know the potential love interests more
Not like we need more than one to be honest. I'm okay with waiting tho

I understand that you have concerns about this, thank you for bringing them to my attention.

I feel that by introducing all LI's at the same time would end up divorcing them from their ties to the plots they are a part of.

It would also feel forced to me. Likewise, forcing players to encounter them no matter what would also seem forced to me.

I can't stop people from fixating on one character, and I'm sorry if me joking upset you. I shall be more mindful in the future.

All potential love interests are just that: Potential.

If players voted to never see Ashley again, or to keep him at arms length, a distant friend, then I'd roll with that. Your prior relationship with him, whilst having romantic overtones was explicitly not romantic in nature.

Where it goes from here is up to the players.

It's how many threads are needed to for Shee to get laid again.

Where did that get said? I can't see it.

Sounds like good drama to me.

No thats not the issue at all Pally.
I'm not mad or anything. I was honestly wondering for the reasoning. I don't mind you giving us a mandatory LIs its one of the things you can do to avoid this kind of infighting.
But then you should really do it, instead of talking around it.
You as QM are allowed to have a opinion of your own, and there is nothing wrong with liking that character or wanting to write that relationship. My point was to point out, if that was your plan, I don't think that plan actually works.

It was a joke anon. Some people sperged saying that Shee and Ash had already done it or something, though I might be remembering it wrong.
>>
>>36918666
Anon pls. She is a druggy and a blood-whore.
If Ash didn't do it, someone else did since then.

To be clear, I was refering to the plan of "let people get choose from many LIs by introducing them optionally at different times".
That just doesn't work.
Especially not if that one first LI is basically the only friend the character has.

Taking the joke a little too far, anon.

A fair point. I acknowledge the plan isn't perfect.

I believe it can work though, and the only way of avoiding arguments is to railroad and mandate a specific LI - which will cause complaints on its own.

Or to forbid romance entirely, which will also cause complaints.

In short all options have downsides. I believe my current plan offers the most player choice, within a defined structure.

I could of course be wrong and the quest could burn because of it, we will find out I suppose.

Thats pretty much whats the case right now, thats the thing.
Sure people will complain.
They already do. I'm saying it would condense the complaints into a single bundle instead of stretching them out over the next 6 threads.
But I said my piece. Its your quest Pally, and it doesn't make a huge difference to me either way.

I just hope you have plans to make Ashleys personality more interesting then.

I will forever hope in futility.

Thank you for your feedback, I will consider it carefully
