You are Blanc, and you are not a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. Admittedly, you ARE short, sturdy, and overly fond of reading and studying (and maybe a little writing on the side), but you are the furthest thing from a dwarf.

For one thing, you're the patron goddess (aka the CPU, or Console Patron Unit) of Lowee, which is the greatest nation in Gamindustri and sits on the only known deposits of Nintendium. For another thing, you're not going to stay short forever; you're reasonably certain that you've still got time to grow up and out, and-

But that's neither here nor there, because your breakfast table is in grave danger- if a certain purple-haired moron so much as DARES to throw up here, you're gonna thrash her so hard that they'll be scraping her parfait-eating ass off the MOON.

"I regret nothing," Neptune moans, looking a distinct shade of green. She's sprawled across your table like a beached whale, a few dozen empty sundae bowls serving as a silent testament to her bullheaded greed. "C'mon, what else was I supposed to do during the break? NOT eat parfaits off-camera? I- hey, wait, where're you going?? You haven't helped me with my problem yet!"

You do /not/ have time for this. Sure, Neptune's a fellow goddess and your eternal rival, but there's a lot on your plate right now; the national festival is in full swing, inconsiderate freelancers are going stir-crazy, and now there's all this talk about Arfoire's cultists popping back up-

"Oh!" You can SEE the light bulb going off above Neptune's head, and she just as quickly forgets about her nausea. "Yeah, I was gonna talk to you about that, too! See, there's been some Arfoire-ish stuff going on in Planeptune, you know, and ohmygod-"

You don't even realize that you've invaded her personal space until she's trying to back away- but a quick grab of her shoulders cuts THAT short, because if any Arfoire-worshipping nutjobs so much as /breathe/ in Gamindustri, you want to know where they are, what they're up to, and what the cretins had for dinner last night.

"Okay! But!" The representative personification of Planeptune raises her hand, gently levering you away. "Only if you help me figure out where my main character-ness has gone!"

[ ] [HUMOR] her. Talk about her supposed main character-ness, how she lost it, and figure out where it could have gone.
[ ] [ARFOIRE] is way too important to leave be! Grill her on this as much as you can.
[ ] [CHANGE] the subject, because Neptune's an airhead, her info is bound to be useless, and you don't have time for this.

>Why not just let everyone else wipe out Neptune and Planeptune?

Oh, that's crossed your mind far too many times to count. It's all too tempting to let nature take its course, and maybe help nature along by transforming into your HDD form and mulching Neptune with your war hammer.

It's certainly what you WOULD have done back in the day, when the Console Wars were in full swing. As the patron goddess of Lowee, you’ve lost track of how many would-be goddesses you crushed (they spawned like cockroaches back then, the earliest being formless gibbering monstrosities), how many rival consoles you were forced to pulverize in self-defense (most of them were doomed to failure, anyway), and how many fledgling nations you put to the torch (before they even had a chance to accumulate more than a few hundred worshippers, if even that). As far as you know, every CPU used to feel the same way; their instincts demanded nothing less.

Once things settled down a little, life got considerably more complicated. You’d matured enough to realize that brutal domination wasn’t something you could (or should) stomach, Arfoire came onto the scene and tried her hand at plunging Gamindustri into eons of bloodshed, and then Neptune came up with the frankly novel solution of the goddesses NOT trying to violently murder each other and competing in some other fashion.

Long story short, despite Neptune being /Neptune/, she’s the linchpin keeping Gamindustri together and in a state of relative peace.

>Who is Arfoire again?

You wish you knew.

No, really. As far as anyone can tell, Arfoire’s nearly as much of a goddess as you and the rest of the CPUs, except more of a force of nature that does her level best to depose you (and, again, the rest of the CPUs). The one time she reared her ugly head, she stuck around long enough to cause some major damage; only the combined efforts of the four extant goddesses (including you) managed to put an end to her schemes, and so on and so forth. Just like one of your fairy tales.

… ALSO just like your fairy tales, Arfoire is apparently hard to keep down. You’ve heard rumors that she’s coming around again, which were unpleasantly substantiated by adventurers reporting a resurgence of Arfoire-worshipping cultists, among other things.

>[X] [CHANGE] the subject for now, but
>[X] [HUMOR] her anyway!

Putting your thoughts aside, you step back and smooth down your dress, regaining your composure. Neptune isn’t leaving you alone until you agree to help her, is she.

“Yeppers!” she fires back cheerily. “It’s going to bother me FOREVER if I don’t figure it out, and bother-y loves company, so I’ll hang around and seek solace from your presence!”

Fine. Fine, you’ll help her. Anything to get-

That’s about all you have time to say before Neptune takes both your hands and starts shaking with enough force to knock your hat askew. “Yes! I knew I could count on you, Blanc! You’re the greatest! As expected of the wonderful pint-sized pipsqueak whose pip is most definitely worse than her squeak! We’ll get to the bottom of this in no time!”

… you graciously ignore the not-so-subtle putdowns she’s not-so-subtly implying with those words and readjust your hat, feeling preemptively silly for the questions you’re about to ask. Alright, so where are you even going to /start/? Does Neptune have any leads?

Neptune starts bouncing in place. Years of observation have left you reasonably sure that she has to do that to gets her brain cells working. “Well, I had a hunch that something in Lowee stole my title as the front cover character, so here I am!” she chirrups.

[ ] [OUT] Head out into town. You’re certainly not going to find any clues in the solitude of the Basilicom.
[ ] [PRESS] That had better not be the end of Neptune’s hunches, otherwise this will be looking for a needle in a haystack.
[ ] [GUARD] Whatever she wants to tell you, it’s got to be a lot more crucial than finding someone’s main character-ness.

This is a terrible idea. You know Neptune well enough to realize that she can get kind of intense about the dumbest things, and this most certainly qualifies. What you normally would do (i.e. the logical thing) is to take the opportunity currently offered by your head of security (you THINK she wants to tell you something, but it's hard to tell with the amazonian woman) and escape from Neptune's general vicinity.

Instead, you add fuel to the flames. In your own quiet voice (others have told you that it's a sort of calm deadpan that grows coarser and more violent the angrier you get), you bring up the possibility that you yourself may have unintentionally stolen Neptune's spot as the main character. It stands to reason, doesn't it? Lowee is, in your unbiased opinion, the greatest nation of all, and you enjoy a reasonable amount of popularity-

"Aw, c'mon, Blanc, don't go trying to pull my leg like that!" Neptune chortles, shooting you down immediately. "We both know you're not exactly main character material. You're too soft-spoken for that! Besides, people with violent mood swings are too edgy to be super popular!"

... is she implyin' something, or can you safely assume that this counts as shots fuckin' fired?

This is the first time you've seen Neptune move so fast when she's not transformed into her HDD mode. "Aaah! See? You're doing it again! That thing where shadows consume your face and your eyes start glowing red!"

With an effort, you force your boiling rage down to a slow simmer. Terrifying Neptune is always fun, but you've got bigger fish to fry.

"That's the non-murderous spirit! C'mon, you haven't seen anyone interesting, have you? You can tell lil' ol' Nep-Nep!"

By the door, your head of security clears her throat.

Yeah, it's a pretty interesting choice on their part- and I'm pretty damn flattered you got interested in the series through this quest!

Aside from the usual always-wait-til-Steam-sales stuff (and the fact that the quest is basically just me jumping off and doing weirdly different stuff with the technically established setting), the thing to remember about the Neptunia series is that

1) It's about as anime as you can get without causing grievous bodily injury to yourself,
2) It's kind of an acquired taste- the games really aren't OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZINGLY STELLAR, but they're not /bad/ since they really don't take themselves that seriously, and
3) Be especially wary of the spinoffs, like the idol spinoff and the FFT-style game where Estelle and the other game-based characters show up because they shoehorn a faceless player character insert who's there to get the girl(s) because why this.

Other than that, yeah, definitely have fun!

Okay, fine. You'll bite, if only because you can't help but be morbidly curious about the inner workings of Neptune's mind. How in the world did Neptune actually realize she lost her... whatever it is that makes her the main character?

"Hmm... well, it's sorta hard to explain to the non-initiated," Neptune muses. "But it's this weird feeling in your gizzard, like you're totally sure that the world revolves around your every action!"

Uh-huh. She DOES realize that you're both beings of immense power whose very identities are intertwined in their nations' well-being, right?

"Ah, no, it's more than that!" she insists; behind her, Basilicom staff members start cleaning up the metric ton of empty parfait bowls, completely unnoticed. "It's like- you get a bunch of choices to make, and they're supposed to be really important and earth-shattering! The path of history depends upon your every whim! ... you know, that kind of stuff."

... please stop posing dramatically on top of your table. She's scaring the maids.

Neptune hops off the table, pouting slightly. "The pose is /important/, Blanc! How can get my point across if I can't express all the feels in words and gestures?"

Besides, you both make choices every day, and that doesn't make YOU a main character-

You're interrupted as your head of security is suddenly looming over you; she has to lean down a fair bit just to whisper in your ear, giving you another up-close glimpse of that ridiculous red tie of hers. (To date, you know no other person who puts their initials on ANY part of their formal wear).

"Sorry to interrupt," your head of security rumbles- thankfully, she knows how to keep her voice quiet. "But we've got a situation. Two of them, in fact. First, there's been sightings of a fort just outside the capital, with reports of fighting around the area; second, there may have been an attack on some veteran adventurers out by the temples."

... Neptune's giving you a fairly intense look for some reason.

[ ] [STAY] Dispatch guards to deal with both situations. You can't rush out on your own to solve everything.

You frown slightly, piecing apart what your head of security just told you. She's not the brightest banana in the barrel- not by a long shot- and she's not a very fast speaker, but on the flip side, you know damn well that she chooses her words with care. An attack ON veteran adventurers? Not the usual squabble?

"Ambushed," she grunts. "Right in the middle of the crowds. Pulled her targets into some dark sphere and spat them back out again, but maybe didn't count on them being so tough. They're panicking, and she's got her hands full now."

And we've got a full-on brawl on the outskirts of town. Who-

"Arturia and Lee-Fi, fighting an unknown."

You can't help it- you spit out a curse sharp enough to make Neptune blush and clasp her hands to her cheek, although your head of security's more than used to it. You're no longer worried for those two- you're worried for your goddamn /city/. They're full-blooded veterans, with long histories in Lowee back in the day- you know just how much power they're packing.

Before you even register what you're doing, you're purposefully striding through the Basilicom's inner sanctum, your head of security by your side. You turn to her, barking out orders at a rapid pace- Kong, go check up on the snow fort, bring some guards with her, but for the love of /you/, she's gonna have to send as many as she can spare to contain the damage and stop the combatants from bleeding over, you'll deal with them /personally/-

"On it," Kong rumbles, cracking her fists in earnest this time before trundling off, her longer strides allowing her to outpace you in no time.

It's only when you reach the exit that you realize that Neptune's been keeping pace with you, still staring at you intently. Her stare is just a little less disconcerting than the fact that she looks /serious/- but you still have the presence of mind to ask her what the hell she thinks she's lookin' at and why.

"No reason!" Neptune chirrups, somehow mixing perkiness and solemnity. "I was just thinking that you'd make a pretty good main character. I bet you even got a multiple choice branching path or two up in there!"

You don't blink against the sunlight as you exit the Basilicom, and you barely even notice the double-takes of the bystanders around you through your head of steam. You glance to Neptune; so is she gonna make her point or not?, you growl, feeling your voice deepen into something a little hoarser, a little rougher.

"Let me come with you!" she exclaims, clenching a fist in determination. "If I can't be the main character, then I'll hang around you until enough of it rubs off of me to let me become a sub-character! Or a recurring cameo! Or even the waifu! Wait, no, that's just reader bait."

Despite yourself, you can't help but snort in a most unladylike fashion. She's not gonna let you weasel out of this one, is she?

"Nope! This has all the hallmarks of being a But Thou Must! situation!" Neptune parrots the famous phrase almost perfectly, eerily similar to a certain Dragon Warrior. "Besides, I know Arturia and Lee-Fi! They hung out at Planeptune sometimes, too!"

Fine, fine. You've got a bigger fish to MASH INTO A BLOODY SMEAR ON THE GROUND, after all.

"Haha, that's the Blanc we all know and love!"

Soon enough, you arrive at the outskirts of Lowee's capital, where all the older buildings and temples are located. More tellingly, you start seeing signs of combat: weaponry lodged in the crumbling walls, fist and feet indentations all along the dilapidated pathways, and- of all things- discarded mechanical parts from something clearly robotic, although you can't make heads or tails of them.

Most importantly, you can hear the unmistakeable sounds of veteran adventurers duking it out, and it's not all that far away.

... right then. Time to get down to business and make a goddamn entrance.

[ ] [HDD] Transform into your goddess forms and fly to where the fighting probably is. They'll see you coming, but you WANT them to see you coming.
[ ] [ON FOOT] Approach the fighting on foot. It'll take you longer to get there, but on the other hand, you might be able to get the jump on whoever started this fight.

>[X] [HDD]

The more you stare at the battle damage, the angrier you get. This is a travesty. This is a direct insult to you, to your guards (oh, you're going to have WORDS with them when this is over), and to the Ascended who was to be honored by this festival. Someone jumped a bunch of visiting veterans in YOUR capital city! In the heart and soul of your freaking nation! And now they're steamrollin' right on through the physical history of your beautiful capital!

There's no underlying strategy, no grand plan in your normally orderly mind- a "CHANGE, MOTHERFUCKER!" tears itself from your throat, and your sight is briefly obscured as /power overwhelming/ flows through your veins. When the smoke clears, you're in your HDD form, your choice of attire is a lot breezier, but FUCK that noise because you are CPU WHITE HEART and you can FLY now and /murder/ things a hell of a lot more efficiently.

"H-Hey!" Neptune squawks, backing up a step- old instincts and memories coming to the fore, probably. Who knows how many times you've both boosted into your HDD forms to thrash each other shitless over the years? "What about me?"

You can't help but smirk- in this form, your emotions all across the spectrum always seem to run higher than usual. Seriously, the hell is she on about? She's comin' with you, so she'd damn well better suit up before you leave her behind! Then again, she's totally used to being left behind by Lowee, isn't she?

"What!? How dare you!"

Another burst of dazzling fancy-pants computerized light engulfs Neptune, and then Purple Heart stands in her place. You've never been able to figure it out- unlike you and your lack of physical changes (other than a cool blue hairdo), Neptune always goes from a bratty kid to an older teen when she transforms, gaining a fair bit of height, longer hair, and an actual honest-to-god rack.

Not that you're jealous or anything because ha ha ha disgusting cow tits go home.

"Shock and awe, Blanc? Predictable as always," Purple Heart says, her voice deeper. "Effective, though. Lead the way."

... more important than her physical changes is the fact that her personality suddenly becomes rational, calm, and about 1000% more manageable. You would've blown her up AGES ago if it weren't for that.

A feral grin stretches your lips. Shock and awe, motherfucker.

Both of you rocket straight up into the air, the landscape receding below you at an alarming rate; for a moment, you see the entirety of Lowee in your vision, the buildings small and picturesque, the people almost unable to be seen, and the tree-dotted snowfields around your capital city stretching as far as the eye can see. It's a goddamn beautiful moment, and one that you've never tired of over all these years.

You home in on your target in a matter of seconds- there are spots of unnatural darkness scattered through a small area, laughably easy to spot from the air- and then you start diving, your war hammer materializing in your hands, and the formerly picturesque houses are looming larger and larger, and you have to make damn sure you aren't going to destroy anything on impact because your advisers will chew you out and Reggie will get on your case-

And then you're down, screaming at the top of your lungs as you smash your hammer straight through one of those amorphous blobs of pure midnight, about the size of a small van. It pops like a zit, except the blackness dissipates almost immediately- and there's an explosion of those weird mechanical parts you saw before, this time with strange scraps of fabric mixed in.

Beside you, Purple Heart lands far more gracefully, but no less destructively; you tsk underneath your breath as she slices /two/ spheres into ribbons with that cookie-cutter sword of hers. But before you can yell at her about showing off and/or about how that one totally didn't count, you're taking in the scene around you.

It's kind of complete bedlam right now. You can hear familiar voices screaming in terror-fueled rage, although you can't see them; a gigantic fucking lance hurtles over your head, missing you by an inch, and Purple Heart's forced to sidestep a blue fireball that splashes against the pavement, leaving a burning black mark.

... Arturia and Lee-Fi. No doubt about it. And they're apparently terrified to the point that they're lashin' out blindly, which is ALWAYS bad news.

The third participant in this fight, the probable instigator of this whole kit-and-kaboodle, is backing away- she's so goddamn dapper that she might as well be euphoric, looking sharp in an old-fashioned suit and blazer and one of those even older-fashioned hats. There's something off about her, though; bags under her eyes, jerky movements, and her weapon of choice is just a pair of hand-puppets, some sort of yellow chicken and a purple rabbit-

I͇̞͔̻̥͢T̺'̦̜̖͠Ś M̥͔̯̖̖͜E̫͍̱͔

And then black spheres are converging on your position, and the world's darkening as they grow steadily closer. No choice but to take these pieces of shit to town.

[ ] [BOSS] Destroy the spheres and make your way to the dapper girl. Take her out, and the spheres ought to stop being a problem.
[ ] [CAPCOM] Destroy the spheres and make your way to Arturia and Lee-Fi. Whatever's affecting them is probably fucking them up real bad.
[ ] [SPLIT UP] Send Neptune/Purple Heart toward Arturia and Lee-Fi while you go take on the boss, because fuck that noise.
[ ] [SPLIT UP2] YOU go toward Arturia and Lee-Fi and send Neptune/Purple Heart after the boss, because fuck him.
[ ] [ASCENDED] Call on the power of your guardian spirits because there's no kill like overkill. If there's ever a time to rely on them, it's now.

ALRIGHT SHIT I kinda lost track of time there and it's a lot later than it should be! Gonna have to stop the thread here for the night.

I'll try to aim the next mini-thread for Friday, 12/26, starting from approximately 9:30-ish pm EST! Updates will be at https://twitter.com/BlorpQuest and questions can go here or to ask.fm/BlorpQuest.

Thanks, guys, and I hope you enjoyed this mini-thread; catch you next time!

Is there something special about the nature of personifications that are PC exclusive or something?

They all seem to act just a bit off from the normal adventurers.
>>
>>36929294
PC doesn't exist as a gaming platform in Japan, so Blorp is farming the exclusives for villains.
>>
>>36929319
but dwarf fortress is a pc exclusive and it is the main hero

also, you are wrong about pc not existing as a gaming platform in japan. Porn games (which are huge in japan) are almost all exclusive to the PC.
>>
>>36929397
Don't forget Mara and formerly Mojang! And the MOBAs don't seem particularly villianish to me, they just kinda seem like dicks.
>>
>>36929397
>also, you are wrong about pc not existing as a gaming platform in japan. Porn games (which are huge in japan) are almost all exclusive to the PC.
are we going to encounter erogages?
>>
>>36929459
I was worried about Arturia there until I realized it was probably Ghost and Goblins
>>
>>36929397
Urist can be pretty villainous, but the voices in her head keep her from killing too many people.

>>36929428
Civ has had some terrible console ports, so it's not completely PC exclusive.
