Glug, glug, glug.
You've been hitting your flask a little too hard today. This would make the second time that you've almost depleted it within the last eight hours. For you, that's the standard hallmark of a bad day.

There's a witchdoctor and a child, alone at a shrine located deep, deep in the woods. So, this fuzzy-headed boy just told a possible burglar that it was perfectly fine to go visit when you weren't around.

You're not taking the news very well. There's a kind of sticking point about this situation that you find yourself distressed over.

"JACK! JACK STOP I CAN'T BREATHE!"
At least this way, you're not the only one.

You are Jack Albator, terror of the high seas, daring hero, and master detective. Your latest case involves someone having the nerve to break into your castle and try and steal from your library. The whole thing has left a sour taste in your mouth, and that's not just the liquor.

You let Aligot go from the headlock that you put him in to furiously rub at his scalp. He jumps back and adjusts the tips of his ears while coughing and choking.

"I.. I guess I did something wrong.." Aligot says, wheezing.
"Aye, but I'm lettin' you off easy this time 'cus you couldn't have known." You dust the fur off your coat and turn to Yuuki.

"I'm going to the Shrine, you-"

>"Stay here, watch the castle while I'm out. I don't want him trying this again with no one here to stop him."
>"Come with me, I might need backup."
>"Do what ye want."
>"Go to town and help find Camille."

Also a thunderstorm is currently bearing down on me. If posting suddenly stops, then you can take that as a sign that I'm sitting in the dark.
Let's hope that doesn't happen

"-need to stay here and watch the castle. And I don't mean hole yerself up in your room for hours. I mean watch and patrol the castle in case the burglar comes back."

"Hai!"Yuuki tries standing at attention with a determined look on her face, but she really isn't threatening at all.

You turn to the head maid for your next order,
"And Alicot, don't let the rabbit princess know that Yuuki is patrolling the castle. As far as anyone else knows, she's either in her room or taking a bath."
"R-right!" The maid doens't look very threatening either.

As far as defense forces go, this isn't much to go on. You know better than to complain with what little you have to work with, anyway.

With that, you turn to the door and leave. With your running speed, you estimate that it would be far faster to run to the shrine than to go through the hassle of borrowing something to ride on.

--

You stop by town real fast to see if there's any progress in finding Camille.
Not many things really worry you, but the fact that the demon hunter who kicked off the investigation mysteriously goes missing is sort of itching the back of your mind. Not that there is much for you to do at this point besides complain.

"Atsuko!" Thar she is, hovering just outside the bar with an exasperated look on her face. "Any luck!?"
She looks up, her expression softening some, "No, and I'm really starting to worry. I would think she would have told us something if she was going to disappear like that again."

"Awright Lass, I-"

>"Need to get back to the shrine, something may be happening there."
>"Need you to come with me, back to the Shrine. Just in case."
>"Need to borrow Akiko. Something important has come up."
>Don't tell her about what's happening at the shrine, it'll just make her panic.

"I need to get back to the shrine, Lass. Something may be happening there."
Atsuko freezes, she can tell something is wrong when you're getting serious about something.

"What's happening there!?"
"Long story short Lass, Castle broken into last night, and burglar may be lookin' at the shrine next."

The realization spreads across Atsuko's face. Calmly, she whistles into the air.
For a second, nothing happens. Up until her mount skids to a halt directly in front of her. Which is a neat trick that you didn't know she could do.
"Hop on, Jack. We can get there in ten minutes if I-"
"No time, Lass. I'm goin' ahead!"

You leap off in the direction of the shrine. Atsuko voices some meager complaints behind you as she struggles to keep up.

--

Five minutes later, you're just catching your second wind as you arrive at the shrine.

Nothing is burning, no one is yelling, everything seems peaceful.
Keiko is sweeping the front porch of the shrine. Through the door and on the back porch, you can see Madeline coiled into a big ball.

It's almost as if you panicked for nothing. And you couldn't be happier for it.

"Argh." You grunt as you skid to a halt. "At least that's a relief."
You look back behind you, down the pathway. You bolted down the pathway here, ignoring absolutely everyone on the path until you reached the shrine. You suppose that you could have passed him. Or that maybe he's simply laying in wait for something or someone.

That's exactly what you need, the need to sleep with one eye open until you find the crook.

>Search around, something isn't right here.
>Call out to Keiko. Hey Keiko! You haven't seen anyone today, right?
>Forget it, turn around and leave, you have better things to do.
>Wait for Atsuko to catch up, maybe you two can do something while you're here.

"Oy! Keiko!"

The green haired fox-lass drops her broom and immediately hops over to you, with the biggest beaming smile.
"Jack! Hiii! Did you find Camille?"

You run your fingers across her silky, green hair.
"Naw, can't say I have Lass. Anyone come to the shrine since I left?"
She does a little twirl in her place and finishes with a "Nope!".

Just as well, as far as you're concerned.
"Tell ye what, if anyone comes to the shrine that ye don't know while I'm not around. I want you to run into the shrine and shut the door, don't open it fer anyone, ye hear?"

"Ummm." She uncomfortably plays with her dress. "Why?"
"Because I said so, Lass. That's why I ask you to do anything."

"Oh! It's Atsuko!"
You turn and face the coming blonde-haired fox on the road. Seven minutes, that's not too bad of a time considering that you have super speed and got here as quickly as you could.
Also not bad of a time considering that she's walking and talking with a stranger. One who stands quite a bit taller than you.
And a stranger who wears a very funny hat.

"Aye Keiko, why don't you go practice what I just told ye?"
"Hmm? why?"

Cute lass, but she has much to learn.
"Just do it."

You approach the two, and while Atsuko seems to be on-edge, but you did just tell her the shrine might be under attack.
She looks up and meets eyes with yours,
"Ah! There's Jack. So, um."

Guys, in all seriousness, my power was just out for 20 minutes.

So just in case it goes out again, I'll have to call it here for the night.

Sorry for the short thread. In total it had 4 storyposts.

I'm not sure if I'll be running on Thursday, but just in case I am, do you guys want a Christmas Thread, or just a continuation of where I left off?

Because I can do a Christmas thread if you guys want, it will be christmas after all. I'm just not entirely sure where I'll be on Thursday or if a thread will be running at all.

That said, something else to discuss:

I got a job recently, which means I'll be moving out of town. Somewhere with little internet access and no game console. This means the only entertainment I'll have is running my quests. Hopefully this means that, in the future, I'll run more frequently combined with having longer threads.

We'll see how it all turns out. Until next time, thanks for participating!
>>
>>36947026
just a continuation of where you left off would be good.
>>
>>36947075
ugh I wanna know what happens but I also want a Christmas thread... Bollocks on you just a continuation I guess.
>>
>>36947166
I could, since this thread was a bit of a dud, do a Christmas thread NEXT Tuesday if you guys wanted.

I could even do half-continuation and half-christmas.
>>
>>36947075
imma be alone and grumpy on christmas so i'm perfectly fine with just a continuation
>>
>>36947186
Well it's not your fault what happened you can't control nature.Better safe than sorry yeah?

To be honest I'd be happy with either.
>>
>>36947075
Do whatever, I'll be too drunk to tell

Okay! Continuation it is!

See you all on Thursday. Thanks for the thread, everybody. And Merry Christmas.
