You decide that probably apologizing to Sando and Hoshino was something you needed to do. You survey the room from your current position. From what you can tell, most of them of the representatives are politicians. What you did notice there were some solider in plain cloths. Their gait gave it away along with how their suits were specifically tailored to help conceal their weapon. You figure they were just PSD for the Meet and Greet.

“What are you doing standing around?” Rin asks, still rather happy from the victory.

“Just looking for someone.” you reply just as you see Sando and Hoshino picking at a shrimp cocktail, “There they are.”

You walk towards to the two of them with Rin following.

“Yo.” you say to the two of them.

You see Hoshino wince a bit once she recognizes you. Sando tenses up a bit. Guess they weren't use to being fired upon.

“Sorry about knocking you out from fighting for third place. I didn't think I would inflict that much damage.” you say to apologize.

You see the both of them relax upon your words.

“I see. Well as your sempais, we accept your apology. You should maybe hold back a bit. I thought I was going to die even with the Absolute Barrier. The Rafale's internals were completely messed up from your shot. I wasn't sure if I was going to crash into the ground and die.” Hoshino says with a touch of chiding you.

“Yeah. Being shot at with that huge gun of yours was scary. Being knocked completely to the ground in an IS scared me completely.” Sando adds.

“I suppose being shot at is scary if you aren't use to it. Oh in case you didn't know, when a bullet buzzes past you, they found you. You only have to worry when the bullet snaps past you since that means they have you in their sights.” you say very matter of factly.

The three of them give you that strange look. Something of a cross of disbelief, shock and horror.

“John, why do you know that?” Rin asks.

“Grandpa said experience is one of the best teachers.” you reply

Rin and Hoshino are stopped in her tracks at the implications of your words.

“Smith-kun, is it normal for all Americans to be shot at?” Sando asks after building up her confidence.

“Good luck next time.” Rin says ever so energetically, “You won't have to fight us, so that means you'll go far.”

Sando and Hoshino both leave to talk to some of their other classmates while you think of what to do next.

“You know what time it is now Rin?” you ask her.

“No idea.” Rin answers a bit confused.

“It's snack time. Let's see if there is anything good to eat.” you reply.

“I'd thought you'd never ask.” Rin responds with a smile.

“Let's each grab a bunch and to try them out.” you say, planning out your plan to attack the tables full of food.

“Sounds like a plan.” Rin says with complete agreement.

And with that, you both go off in different directions to collect of bunch of hor d'ouevres to eat. You grab a large plate and start stacking a bunch of different types. You, of course, sample several different types, picking the ones that taste good. As you are eating one that reminded you of those snakes that you and Grandpa catch and eat, you hear someone say something to you.

“You really should try the Frittata-Cavier canape. It is how do you say in English, a palate pleaser.” the person in a very thick, almost comedic french accent tells you.

You look over to see an impeccably dressed man, a French flag pin on his lapel indicates he must be the French Representative sent here. You slowly take one of those canapes he was talking about and eat it in one bite. It tastes ok as you munch down on it. The cavier wasn't as fresh as you are use to, but that must be since you and Grandpa actually have eaten caviar just cut from the fish on your trips.

“So what did you think? Even here in Japan, they have a great understanding of the finer points of caviar.” the french man continues.

“And you are?” you ask after you finish eating the canape.

“Ah, sorry for my ill manners. I am Louis de Levezou. The French Representative for the Ministry of IS Affairs for France. And you are John Smith. I believe we have something important to talk about.” Loius explains.

“Which would be?” you ask, trying to see his angle.

“Charlotte Dunois.” Louis says very crisply.

You make sure not let your body betray what you are thinking. That you will make sure to protect her irregardless of the threat, you did promise her that. You make some very minute adjustments in your stance in case he might try something as you turn to face him.

“Now, now. There is no reason why I would want to anger the two of you. I was quite saddened she was unable to participate in this tournament. It would have been nice to see a potential Candidate Representative in action here.” Loius continues to explain.

“That is if she chooses that. With how things are for her, you would be in a very weak position to claim such a thing.” you reply, not betraying your thoughts.

“That is why I am here as a messenger. With how the two of you are so very close. I think it would be good for the both of you to see this.” Louis says before he hands you a USB.

You take it with your free hand and stick it in your inventory for later.

“Do not worry, there is no viruses or anything like that. Just an olive branch for reconciliation.” Loius says. “Oh and you should try the Asparagus Nibbles, the choice of seasoned meat was a good one.” Louis says as he walks away to talk to another diplomat.

This is something you will have to deal with promptly, in private with Charlotte. But considering he said that the both of you can read it, that must mean there is no sensitive information on it. Knowing that this is a public place with eyes everywhere, you continue on your quest to hunt, no sample new treats.

After a couple of minutes, you catch up with Rin, who also has a plate full of snacks.

“Hey you should try this Crab Rangoon. It's pretty good.” Rin says as she puts one on your plate.

“Try this one. These Salmon taretare is also pretty good.” you respond to her recommendation.

You and Rin both begin to snack in earnest, trying out stuff the other had. It is a good snack after all the fighting you did earlier. You both finish off everything the two of you brought quickly.

“That was good.” Rin says contently.

“It was certainly interesting in what they had. Probably just another way to tempt people into being scouted.” you reply.

“Yeah, probably.” Rin says in agreement.

The two of you stand around for a little bit seeing who is talking to who before you see Ms Orimura and Ms Yamada come up to you.

“Smith, Huang, congratulations.” Ms Orimura says to the two of you.

“Congratulations Smith-kun, Huang-san. It was wonderful to see two former enemies come together and compete together. It is just a sign of a rivalry ending and the start of becoming good friends.” Ms Yamada says happily and idealistically.

“Thanks you.” both you and Rin say in unison.

“There was someone very insistent to meet you Smith. He said to keep you here til you both met.” Ms Orimura tells you.

“Senator Armstrong, I presume?” you ask.

The Senator lets out a happy, hearty laugh, “That's right. Senator Steven Armstrong at your service. Old Georgie said you were smart kid. So Son, I heard about what you have been doing here. You have been doing such great thing for America here. Makes me proud to have someone like you represent our nation here at this Academy.”

“Thank you Senator.” you reply, ”I'm glad I'm able to make everyone back home proud.”

“The fact that you fight for your ideals no matter the location, makes me proud to be an American. Old Georgie was right, you are a chip off the old block.” Senator Armstrong continues, “Ever since the White Knight Incident, America has been in a slump. Choosing to become weak and ignoring the problems at home. But you, you have shown that American Pride is still there. That America is worth fighting for.”

“American exceptionalism is something my family has always been something my family strives for.” you reply.

“I know, Georgie will be a tough opponent in the elections.” Senator Armstrong says with a smile.

“Sir, that is premature.” the man with the Spanish sounding accent says.

“I only heard of what happened of the events after the fact but I thought it was rather strange. For so many systems and safeties to fail to just a mere hacking attempt is strange. Nuclear weapon systems are isolated and hardened against all forms of foreign intrusions. If those systems could be hacked, it would have fallen long ago. It reeks of someone else interfering or possibly an inside job. Nuclear weapons have too many fail safes to allow that to happen.” you answer.

You see Ms Orimura hold fast at your answer.

“Add to that fact, that it was directed at a US ally. One protected by our Nuclear umbrella, only to be stopped by an untested and untried system that was if I am remembering correctly was having funding problems at the time. Far too coincidental to anyone that is paying attention. It was almost as if it was orchestrated by someone for some agenda. As if to push Infinite Stratos' to the forefront” you finish.

“I see. Smith make sure to keep those suspicion to yourself. There are those who would want to change and frame stories to push their agendas. You've already encounter one group. I wouldn't want to see one of my students fall prey to them.” Ms Orimura tells you.

“I see, changing the narrative of the story to better push the agenda.” you respond.

“Now get going. Maybe in time, the truth will become apparent to you.” Ms Orimura tells you as she walks away.

You watch her walk away, mulling over what she said. Why this line of questioning, is she recruiting herself or rather, is she involved in something that happened. And why now?

“Hey John. What are you doing?” Rin yells at you, “We'll be late.”

“Right, I'll be right there.” you respond, briskly walking to Rin and towards the cafeteria.

It is already dark by the time you make it to the cafeteria but you can hear all the girls from outside. Once you and Rin make it inside, the cafeteria explodes from the cheering of all the First year girls.

“Congratulations for winning.” all the first year girls yell in unison.

Rin seems to take this all in stride and acts absolutely proud of it. You aren't use to it but you make sure to give them thanks for their encouragement. The line moved very quick and both you and Rin get your dinner.

“John, this way.” Cecilia says as she grabs your arm to lead the way.

Rin follows Cecilia and you to where Houki, Charlotte and Laura are already sitting.

“As expected from my Husband.” Laura says very proudly.

“I knew our training would pay off.” Houki follows up, also proud.

“HEY. IT WAS OUR VICTORY. JOHN AND ME!” Rin interjects by yelling.

You start laughing at all of this. The cafeteria is a bit louder than usual especial with Kaoruko taking photos of everyone here. By the time you and Rin finish eating, she is already to where you are sitting.

“Everyone, get close for a picture.” Kaoruko says as she begins to like up her camera.

Everyone begins to squeeze in closer and you didn't really mind that til Laura had an idea. Laura moved a bit in front of you and promptly sits in your lap.

“Laura, what are you doing?” you ask her.

“Marking my territory. Besides it is normal for the wife to sit in her husband's lap.” Laura answers with a slight blush.

“Stop that!” Rin objects, ”Now is not the time for that. It is about John and mine's victory.”

Arguing is not how you conquer Laura, the other girls have been helping you a lot as well. they earned this victory too.

Laura probably won't budge if you argue with her. Instead you opt for a different strategy. You raise up your arms and put them around the girls around you. You reach as far as Rin's and Houki's waist with Cecilia and Charlotte being squeezed in between them. Rin, at first, acts surprised at your act before reacting the same way and puts her arms around the girls around her. Being pressed together, you feel such utter softness from both Cecilia and Charlotte pressed against your sides.

Leaning in close to Charlotte for an instant, you whisper in her ear, “Meet me tomorrow in my room, by yourself. I got a message from the French Rep.”

Charlotte doesn't say anything but instead leans a bit more on you in acknowledgment. Cecilia not wanting to be one upped, presses even closer to you. In a veritable softness blanket, Laura only exacerbates the situation by resting even further back on your lap. A nice side effect of this, is you can more easily put your hands around Rin's and Houki's waists. In one big pile with all the girls you have your photos taken.

You think to yourself, if this is how victory is here. This is even more intensive to win, you really should thank Uncle George for letting you come here.
