I hope everyone enjoyed (or is enjoying) their holiday/break! Time for some Pokemon: Southern Shores Quest!

Grey, the MC, is currently traveling with Dani, Erica, and Nick. Leading Grey as a trainer, it's your job to keep him alive, help him and his team grow, get those badges, becomes the champion and, most importantly, have fun!

Let's continue our adventure through the wreckage of the SS Abandonment (as it is commonly known), where rust, mystery, and a rampaging Rotom await! First, though? You should probably wake up.

The room is spinning; "Wait, no, my vision is spinning." Vision? You look left and right, but everything's dark. Faint voices trickle in, touching on your consciousness. "Conscious...? Am I alive? Am I conscious? Jeez, I need to stop blacking out like this...!"

Crescendo: the voices become louder and feel closer now. They lap over you in cool, distorted waves of sound. It's Dani, and you can hear Nick and Erica in the background. Your girlfriend, she's "so pretty...! Aw, man, you're so pretty, Dani!" You're babbling, and Dani still sounds urgent.

"Ah! That light!" You try to shield your eyes, but there's no hand to respond. Do you still have a hand? Can you just not feel it?

>Quarters hit the cabinettop, a few spilling onto the floor as you watch the counter fall, "10, 9, 8..."
>"Shit! Bryan! I need some more quarters!"
>With some borrowed money, you finally get all 14 quarters into the machine, stalling the End.
>You hit the "START" button on the old gaming cabinet, the stored credits falling back to "$0.00" but the game whirring back to life.

GAME CONTINUED!
>ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Nessie needs some Cash!

The light envelops your; or, is it that the darkness recedes from your vision? This and other questions fill your mind as arms and torso work in unison to lurch you up and forward. Back in reality things aren't looking so hot: wires spark, glass clinks, clatters, and crashes as it falls out of the busted panes of the control room. You're in one piece, thankfully, and so is Dani. Nick's still alive, yeah, but you can't win'em all.

"---!" Dani's mouth moves, but there's nothing coming out. You give a curt motion and go back to shaking and rubbing your head. The ringing that's dulled your senses is slowly fading, and her words actually reach you now:

"Are you okay, babe? We need to get out of here!"

Pack to the left: painkillers, useful shit, and you can't leave it. Your thoughts come to you in broken pieces, like they're summoned up just fine but they get shot down like clay pigeons the minute you try to get a hold of them. Pack. Pack? You shoulder it, and then focus on your team at your waist. Dani tries to comfort or help you, but she's pestering you right now. Pack. Deck. Team. What?

"Grey, are you alright? Let me see your head, you really took it hard when you hit the floor- " You gently brush her off and shake your head. She means well, but you'e feeling kinda claustrophobic right now. Something.

"Thanks. Love you. Uhgodmy head...!" Your knees find some strength from some corner of your body and you rise, but it's hard at first. "I'm okay. Mind-waffles spilled, you know: syrup... everywhere?"

"What the hell are you saying, Grey?" She backs away as requested and takes to gathering her own things but her face reads concern. "Nick? Erica? Is Erica alright? We need to get out of here."

You speak up at that. "Not yet. Not without," Your arms moving, feet shuffling, and breaths hard you find some solid ground. It's hard when the Rotom's machinations has everything shaking. "Not without catching that thing. Too dangerous to let it rampage!"

"Aw, fuck that, man!" Nick doesn't even look at you, too focused on helping Erica up. "Fuck you, always wanting to do the dangerous stupid shit!"

Dani looks unconvinced but willing to help. Erica just seems shaky. Nick is pissed, of course.

HERE'S YOUR ANSWER, YOU LITTLE fantastic person!

>94
>THE BLITZKRIEG SHALL ROLL!

"Exactly, Nick! We've done some dangerous shit before and the last two times we've all been fine!" Steady enough, you move to Help Erica onto Nick's back. Taking his pack from him you and Dani start leading them back towards the stairwell.

You turn back to the Control Room, peering out the now-gaping hole left by the impact with the crane-flung container;

"HOLY SHIT!"

You urge Dani down the stairs, just falling short of throwing her backwards again. She turns to look, eyes following your gaze until she finds the crane once again in a pendulum motion, the now-battered container at the apex of its swing. The Rotom's going to ram the tower again!

You dive into the stairwell after Dani, throwing shut the rusty old port-door after you just in case and hopping down two stairs at a time. You hit the end of a flight when an metal-tearing, floor-shaking BOOM echoes through the ship.

Everyone catches their balance before moving on past the debris.

"Feel that, Nick? If we don't stop this thing it'll kill us or kill the next person that happens on it! We can't just leave it, and you're exactly right: I've dragged us through danger before!"

"Bullshit, Grey!" He's hustling down the stairs, Erica tightly clinging to his back. You watch from the upper flight, curious if Erica can't walk or she's just enjoying the ride. "I got knocked out with the Scythers, and this is a lot worse than a Scyther! You can't chainsaw a ship!"

>"Watch me."
>"I don't need a chainsaw: I need something bigger."
>"No, I can't. And that's why I need your help."

We need team work and coordination for this, failing that we need to make sure it doesn't get this tub moving into the bay to hurt someone else. Also due to brain trauma I forgot, but do we have service here? Someone call ranger.
>>
>>37064283
>"No, I can't. And that's why I need your help."
How exactly do we plan to do this...It's a boat...are we planning to just wreck it till it's unusable for the Rotom...
>>
>>37064398
pretty much, next time we keep Apollo in our line up, fire types excel in wrecking things.
>>
>>37064398
nah , we need to find the crane controlls and smash that. then the rotom has to move and that when we catch it!
>>
>>37064398
>>37064429
Maybe we should just try to destroy the crane control...is it in the ship as a whole or just the electronics, Herald?...
>>
>>37064442
>>37064451
oh hey heh

Actually on second thought that's not a fair question...you don't have to answer that...
Let's just go with smashing the controls...
>>
>>37064442
>>37064451
>>37064477
Cranes only need controls for operator input, a rotom could run it manually which renders controls unnecessary. We might need to wreck the crane.
>>
>>37064505
Hmm ok but how, who do we have with that kind of power...seems if that is our goal then we definitely need Nick's help...
>>
>>37064533
Well we could have Phoenicia heat the metal with fire and Sheldon cool it with water til it's brittle enough to break with a hard hit. Salem can help with the fire and his geodude hopefully know rock throw.
>>
>>37064559
Sounds better that anything I got though I doubt it's gonna just sit there and let us do this, so we will need to be on our toes...
>>
>>37064398

That's a good question.

A bit of a sit-rep:
>Rotom is IN, maybe even IS the ship in a sense.
>It will possess any electrically-powered thing within its reach/influence/that isn't protected
>Older non-Rotom-proof circuitry and electronics (like on this ship) are its playground.
>Rotoms have the capabilities to sort of reproduce or repair structures in order to get things in / back in working order, within limits.

Destruction sounds like a solid enough plan, maybe. Think about the other things you have on hand / in your bag, though...

How about we leg it call a ranger and sit this one out? Rotoms are cool and all but I don't want to tempt fate. Dice aren't coddling us anymore.

>>37064797
Think we blew most of our hints with the Scyther hunt anon, Herald was very lenient on us. I doubt he'll let us live if we fuck up on the rotom again, leg it let our mons out to contain the ship and call a ranger.

Perhaps in spite of yourself and this deadly situation you laugh. You're back near the entrance leading to the main deck, now: peering out, many of the Zubats remain on the deck, still. Dani pushes past you a bit and gets a better look at the scene. She lists off a variety of details:

"Crane's moving, of course..." There's a rumbling, and everyone grabs at the walls. "Container's moving again, Grey! Uh, some live wires on the deck... They're moving like snakes, or something. Can Rotoms control wires like that? I only see one harpoon, and there's some fire hoses down the tower..."

You, Nick, Dani, and even Erica start talking about your options. Nick comes around with just a bit of convincing: there's no way that any of you are escaping this without harm unless you capture or subdue the Rotom, and you can't do that without help.

"Grey..." It's hard to hear Erica with her face in her hands, but at least she isn't hyperventilating now. "How do we stop a ship? This isn't like... a, like, like a Pokemon battle anymore! We.... We should call a Ranger!"

Nick gives a solemn nod, grimacing. You look to Dani, who also seems set on the idea. "Yeah, I agree Erica. Go ahead and make the call; this is dangerous."

With a gesture of her hand Dani calls everyone's attention. "In the meantime, though? We need to try and stop this thing, for our own security. Who knows what it's up to even right now?"

"If only we could just capture it..." Whispers Nick, his thumbnail set between his teeth.

>cont.
>>
>>37065275

"Capture..." you whisper, something itching at your mind. "Oh, shit! That ball!" You pull out the old, chipped, dusty Ball that you found earlier. Going for the controls (which are different than your modern models, interestingly) you find what should be a release switch...

"Aw, shit!" Your thumb goes back and forth, trying to find a grip and get the release to budge but, unfortunately, it seems a bit stuck. "I bet you this ball has something to do with the Rotom... I just know it!"

Everyone gasps as another quake runs through the ship; this time it actually shifts, though. You can feel it keeling over under your feet.

Nick stands, Pokeball in his hand. "Well, fuck! Then someone can work on getting that shit working while we keep it busy."

Erica volunteers to get the ball working.

"Dani?"

"Mm? What?" The blonde looks up from the Pokeball cradled in her hands, her thumbs still running over the smooth surface with an absent mind.

You nod to her and then Nick, drawing out the balls containing Mittens, Nereid, and Grim. "Let's go. Nick's right, we need to keep this thing busy or it might tear the ship down around us."

Nereid comes out first, and quick Silver Mist later the air around the doorway is obscured for the most part. One final nod and kiss from Dani then you're out the door. Mittens comes out with a flash dulled by the artificial fog, looking a bit tired but otherwise "Mittens okay! Mittens help!" You can always count on her.

Driver, Sonny, and Grim are soon out as well. You body parts the fog, coming to the end and clearing your vision when you spot an unwelcome sight:

"HARPOON!"

>61...!
>>
>>37066094

Something about death either really likes you, or really hates you.

You watch as a burst of steam erupts from the back of the harpoon gun. There's a muffled "shunk!" and then the bolt flies at you. You're moving, but you're too slow...!

A green, deadly limb lashes out. Metal on chitin, and you rise out of your shock to see Grim standing before you shrieking and howling, harpoon clenched between his arms. He strains, bending the rusted metal until, finally, with a snap he breaks the projectile in two.

>Quick Response for your Scyther?

Looking back out into the fight, Mittens is deflecting stinging lashes from live wires with her Reflect. Nereid is continuing to cover your back with Mist, obscuring Erica as well. Nick and Dani have started the offensive on the tower.

You release Phoenicia, point to the tower, and yell out an "Attack!" Sheldon comes out and stays at your side, eyeing any threats warily. You're about to release your Whimsicott when a series of popping and creaking noises gets your attention, followed by a rumbling.

The crane's moving its load towards your position! It could drop that container at any moment!

>QM HINT! Empty shipping containers can weight several tons. This kills the Grey!

You order Sheldon and Grim off to the side, splitting off from them with a dash. A moment later the cables holding the container go slack, there's a spooling noise, and then a loud, booming crash that knocks you off your feet. The container has buckled the metal flooring a bit and would have killed you had you not moved.

Thinking fast, you direct Grim to "Cut that cable! Slash, Grim! Slash!"

Your Scyther spreads his wings with a powerful, intimidating flourish. They shimmer, shaking and buzzing in the air as he runs a few steps and then pounces onto the metal container, serrated forelimbs bashing and clawing at the thick cables holding the container. The crane noticeably groans as the Rotom tries to retrieve the container, gears straining and arm bending. Grim reels back one final time, launching his arm in a swift arc that slices through the cable. Thankfully, it was slack enough at the moment that it only slightly whips out, slicing through the air before going limp onto the deck.

You get back onto your feet and look around: Nick and Dani are busy fending off more wires which have begun to take shapes. The Rotom has formed a few moving, wire and metal beast-like constructs. A few of your 'Mons are still trying to get that crane knocked over, too.

A couple more seconds, your heart pounding, thoughts racing. Still no sign from Erica, but her Pokemon are helping where they can.... Some wild Pokemon caught in this crossfire are suffering, with a few retaliating at the only threat they understand: your group.

Okay, Crane seems to be #1 priority.
I like the idea of trying to pawn the two groups of foes off on one another. I'll see about implementing that.

Current Party Status:
>Mittens: Very tired
>Grim: Fresh
>Sheldon: Tired
>Nereid: Tired
>Phoenicia: Fresh
>Whimsicott: Fresh

Taking the crane down:

Again I think we should rely somewhat on Grim here. I'm thinking have Phoencia heat support structures of the crane (like a leg), then have Grim slash at the somewhat softer metal, possibly cutting it or bending it somewhat, then Nereid and Sheldon can blast it with caustic water/foam to simultaneously quickly cool the steel and erode it.

Mittens can either rest of stay on backup
>>

grim leads the charge going for a precision attack
mittens works back up by alerting him whenever anything is about to hit him and where the weak spots are

Paging Dr. Mama Herald.

"Grim!" A gesture and a quick whistle later, your resident Sith Lord is hopping off of the crate and scampering over to you. Both of you watch the snake-like wires, darting in and out menacingly, and the more bestial quadruped forms with great caution. Grim hisses and growls, swiping as a LiveWire tries to land a shock on his abdomen.

Sheldon and Nereid are both close by, blasting down Arctiffins, Wingulls, and some Zubats or the ever-encroaching WireBeasts with water attacks.

Temporarily protected on all sides by your teammates, you mentally reach out to Mittens. She's been doing a solid job providing cover and support to the attacking teams but she's exhausted. She only summons just enough energy to mentally grunt at you in recognition when you ask how she's doing. You know this can't continue, and so you look around again for an opportunity to help. Nothing apparent you decide on taking the matter into your own hand.

"Dani! Nick!" They don't have attention to spare, but you know they hear you. "All or nothing on that crane!" The tower and arm arm whipping back and forth, not as dangerous without the container but managing to score some whip-like hits on Wild and Tame 'Mons alike.

"Alright, Grim...!" You grab onto the shoulder of your Scyther and take a big gulp, pushing your anxiety down. "Just don't kill me for what I'm about to do!" You pull and simultaneously pull, your leg hitching up and over. A second later after a bit of confused thrashing on Grim's part and you're on his back gripping onto his shoulders tightly. "Ho-shit!"

You take a moment to steady, thighs tightening around his abdomen and most of your torso pressed between his wings. You recall Mittens and Sheldon, whistling to Nereid and gesturing for her to follow. Then you point and tell Grim to attack - You hold on for dear life as he dashes forward.

>cont.
>>
>>37068088

Wire and beast alike try to bite, scratch, or electrocute the pair of you. Slashing, green limbs lance out and neutralize many threats. A few from above or behind are quickly washed down by Nereid's water guns. You take your familiar, specially-colored ball and recall Mittens after she blocks a holdcover from slamming down ontop of you.

"Thanks, Mittens..." You whisper while bracing yourself against your Scyther. He lurch forward as he stops short of a crashing WireBeast. "We'll take it from here...!"

Grim slices the beast in half, growling and bellowing in a righteous fury. You let out a warcry yourself as you kick down another beast to your right.

"Phoenicia!" The fiery bird circles overhead. "Attack that spot! Ember! Emberemberember!"

She cries out and then dives, dousing a red-hot leg with more fire. Seizing your chance, you call out to Nick and Dani. Nick gives a thumbs before directing Salem and then Tripper. Salem hits it with more fire before Tripper lumbers over and then grips the leg, twisting and pulling it apart.

With this second leg torn apart the crane begins to creak and sway before topping over the side of the ship. You are unable to watch this spectacle, however, as a roaring crackle erupts behind you. You and Grim both turn. A split second is all you are given to duck low under an electric tackle as the beast leaps over you. Another roar and you turn back to the center of the ship: more are coming towards you. You clap Grim on the side and then leap off, watching as beast after beast charges at your raptor.

>cont. 2/3

>>37068112

You fall, rolling onto the deck and moving into your pack quickly. You take glances at Grim, watching as he is dogpiled by these Rotom-powered fuckers until you can only see you the tip of his wing. "Shit! No!" You cycle through your container's contents. "Grim!" You release your chainsaw, grab, and start running over.

You're about to dig into the pile of scrap metal and wire when Grim's wing vibrates just a bit. You pause, saw held high, before the pile is forced to surge outwards. With a ferocious cry Grim emerges, arms blurring into a series of punches and slashes. His body is bristling with a desperate, torrential energy.

You rev and join in on the onslaught.

The beasts momentarily stunned, crushed, or otherwise tossed aside Grim is free to leap over to you. You move, chainsaw at the ready, to defend his right flank. You note from the corner of your eye that Nereid maintains a close distance as well and is similarly set in a fighting stance.

The beasts move, staggering back into place, reconstituting themselves out of the beaten, shredded odds and ends. You look past this pile of wreckage towards Dani and Nick. Everyone is down to but a few 'Mons each, and you note with concern that Phoenicia is roosting on the ground behind Dani and looks injured. Nick has Tripper charge a couple wires while Salem, Paddy, and Driver fend off various beasts.

You turn back to things on your side as Grim slices another wire-form in half. You swing at a beast and saw off its head before it gets a hit on you. Your chainsaw biting through rubber, copper, and metal you fling the scrap aside and prepare for more; nothing comes at you, though. Looking over again, Dani and Nick similarly face no opposition. Instead, the forms are...

"Grey! Why the heck are they bunching together!"

"I have NO idea, Nick!"

You watch as the wires and various pieces of machinery all congregate near the crane, bunching together before... They're swarming the crane wreckage. Are they repairing it? You and Grim move to attack but wires lash out at you, preoccupying any offensive you might muster.

"Shit! What are they doing?"

Dani and Nick back towards the tower, with Nick saying something to Dani who then runs back towards the tower and Erica.

"Grey... Grey! You ever see that movie with the robots?"

"Which robots!?" You look at him, exasperated. "This isn't the time!"

"The ones that combined into the big robots!"

>I wasn't referencing Pacific Rim as having combining robots. I was simply referencing the look of that creature.

The forms twist and writhe in an undulating chorus of metal. Wires and scrapmetal, once seemingly their own Rotom-powered entities are now collecting around the crane, forming a body.

You rev your chainsaw.

You turn to Grim. You share a brief moment of eye contact; a flash of mutual trust and respect, the bond of warriors. Then you begin your battle cry, your raptor-insectoid following suit.

You cry out:

>BOSS BATTLE: ROTOM-STEIN!

"MY SAW!" Grim charges and you follow close behind, saw held out and up for a downward strike. "IS THE SAW THAT WILL PIERCE-" The beast is fully formed now, a towering giant of gnashing metal and coiling wire. Gears grind and metal screeches as it raises one of its rudimentary fists, several cars each in size, and roars. You and Grim leap onto the resting hand, each of your blades piercing into the behemoth with resultant plumes of oil and electricity. It moves with a great rumbling. Its hand slides off of the metal deck and you cling to your saw.

"THE HEAVENS, YOU ELECTRIC BITCH!"

Insult delivered, you manage a stomach-curdling look over the side of the hand as it slowly rises into the air, spotting Nick climbing the ladder on the side of the tower. You shout down to him in an attempt to guide him to the harpoon on the second story of the structure. He flashes you a thumbs up and then a middle finger. You turn back to the hulking monstrosity, pulling yourself up and then jogging the last few paces onto its shoulder. Grim is already there, beating back wire and tiny, slashing appendages that grow out of the "skin" of the beast.

You join in, hacking and slashing your way through with brute force.

Eventually, however, you are stalled before you reach its neck: a smaller version of the metallic giant has pulled itself out of the giant's neck and is lumbering towards you.

>99

"Go, GRIM! Slash! Slash and dance!" You dip low, revving, before slicing up and biting into your foe's arm. Your saw's engine chokes and struggles as you push with your body, straining before this unholy construct. Grim raises both his arms and splays his wings; impressive doesn't touch on the sight of him, faintly silhouetted by the fading sunlight. He brings both arms over and around in a dizzying series of figure eights, dips, arcs, and slashes. The beast is rendering to little more than shreds and you move forward once more.

"GREY!"

>cont.
>>
>>37071719

A shout from below. You look down and Nick waves for but a moment before launching the harpoon in your direction. You hit the deck.

There's a loud "TWANG!" as it buries into the beast, and the monster roars, reeling back in "pain." Can it even feel pain? You're not sure.

You look again, past the harpoon, and watch as the "Face" of the beast glows a ghostly yet vibrant red. The flickering light grows and grows until it envelops the whole of its face before disappearing. Then, a moment later, it returns: this time in the shape of a texting "emoticon."

An angry face. The Rotom doesn't look happy.

You do know that Nick almost hit you with a harpoon... Upon closer inspection, though: the old Pokeball! It's attached via Nick's belt and deck to the end of the harpoon! You look around before spotting Erica and Dani both triumphantly shouting and waving.

Two more metallic forms rise up to meet you, but this only reawakens Grim’s deadly dance. You move onwards, slashing the left arm off of one of the defenders before getting to the harpoon lodged in the towering beast. A wire lashes out at you but you dodge (Rolled 81) and then slash, severing the cord.

You pull off the Pokeball and thumb the recall- it doesn’t stick, and the front of the ball glows every so slightly…

No dice, though. It… well, it seems like it needs more juice.

There is a deep rumble, and the form beneath you shakes. Your friends down below have tried to keep the Rotom-monster busy, but now the head turns in your direction: a huge, bright, intimidating “angry face.” Yeah, maybe not so intimidating… But it certainly is huge.

And its mouth? Just as big as you would expect.

The beast opens its gaping, maw, the red light revealed to be emanating from…

The Rotom. Similar to perhaps a uvula, or maybe just a tiny “brain,” the Rotom resides in the center of the beast’s head. Electricity bounds off its form, and it seems to angrily buzz in your direction.

You need to capture the Rotom:

>How could you power the ball?
>Do you fight it first?
>Do you dare getting any closer / entering the construct’s mouth?
>>
>>37072944
Jump inside the beast's mouth, jam the pokeball into rotom to recharge, recall
>>
>>37072944
>How could you power the ball?
Charge into the construct's mouth. Leap toward the Rotom, pokeball outstretched, thumb on the recall! The ambient electricity surrounding the Rotom should provide enough of a burst of electricity to activate the recall!
>>
>>37072944
>Do you fight it first?

Your eyes meet the Rotom: alien, electronic features on a spinnin ball-like form, shrouded in electrical charge. You look to the ball: dead. Your best shot at capturing this thing.

You know what you must do.

A wire shoots out from the mouth, forked and sparking like some devil’s infernal tongue. It whizzes past and you duck, but the Rotom has caught on this time: as you move forward the wire comes snaking back, grazing your shoulder and sending a numbing shock through your left arm.

“Fuck!” You cry out, grabbing at your shoulder in pain. There’s another roar. This time, however? It’s familiar.

Grim lashes out, severing the wire before nuzzling against your roughly. You give a quick pat of thanks before turning back to the Rotom. It projects a sort of screen, more red text: this time a bunch of characters in the image of a penis. Awesome.

Grim roars and charges at the ‘Mon and you follow, ball outstretched in your hand. Wires grab onto the Scyther and he cuts them down but there’re too many. He’s steadily getting overwhelmed.

You’re so close…!

You leap!

A wire shoots out; the hard metallic surface slides past your cheek, drawing blood. There is a moment of weightlessness as the world seems to slow down mid-leap; several heartbeats pass, lungs and muscles clenched as you stretch your body closer to the energy source…

Another wire. Another, and another: they wrap around your limbs, arresting your momentum and bringing you to the ground.

“FUCK!” You struggle against your bonds with all your might, reaching for the Rotom that is but inches away. “NO!”

You watch as the Rotom begins to increasing its inner gyroscope’s spinning; the incessant whirring it creates grows louder and louder as it builds up a huge electric charge, no doubt to send through the wires and electrocute you once and for all…!

>95

That’s it…! The wires!

You struggle to put feeling back into your arm: closer, closer… Grab the wire…!

“Yes!” You grab, ignoring the pain and discomfort, and shove your hands together. Wire meets ball; it starts glowing. You flick the recall switch.

“I think you’re faulty…”

Your thumb presses the return. It clicks into place.

“You’ve been Recalled.”
