>31st of December, 2014

You are Nina Tuckemby, a sixteen year-old sophomore student at Scarridge High.

You are awoken by an unknown force gently shaking you in your bed.

"Niiinaaaaaa..." The voice whispers, which you realise to be Emily's.

You roll over and look at her, bleary-eyed. A weak grunt of acknowledgement escapes your mouth.

"Nina, you slept in." She pouts. "It's nearly one o'clock!"

You push yourself up against the headboard with your elbows, and glance at your beside clock. She isn't kidding.

"Where are Kate and Jess?" You inquire.

"They left ages ago, I volunteered to stay behind with you!"

"Cheers, Emily."

"I made breakfast! It's in your kitchen!"

You could get used to having Emily make you breakfast every morning. Maybe give her a cute little maid outfit or - better stop that train of thought.

"Where did they go?" You ask.

"Katherine called all the crews down the the sheds to do maintenance, so they went."

Ah. You're the commander - you should really be there if they're doing maintenance. But then again, Emily did cook you a nice breakfast. Dilemma, dilemma.

You won't be able to help them on an empty stomach.

You push your covers aside, rotate yourself out of bed, and walk into the kitchen where you find your breakfast.
Emily has made you an impressive arrangement of food - hash browns; sausage; eggs to name but a few. All in rather large quantities, too.

"How long did it take you to cook all this?" You ask in minor disbeleif.

"I've been cooking since about 9 o'clock!"

Wow. She's a pretty good chef.

"Have you ever thought about becoming a maid?" You joke, earning a giggle and a shake of the head in return.

...

That was delicious. You never knew she could cook like that.
However, large breakfasts aside, you have a crew you need to help!

You stand up, leaving your plate there (You'll wash it up later. Probably.) and then head through to your bedroom where to your surprise Emily has not only made your bed, but has laid out your tankery uniform on the bed.

"Thanks, Jeeves." You grin at her, and proceed to get changed.

...

It's quarter to 2, and you've finally turned up at the sheds, Emily in tow.
All the tanks have been rolled out into the courtyard for maintenance, and the area is buzzing with activity.
Pressure washers blasting dirt away from tracks and plates, girls changing tracks and you're pretty sure Ella and Julia's crews are currently engaged in some sort of water fight despite it being only a few degrees above freezing.

You spot Kate and Jess over by your T-34, struggling to jack up the tank to remove the heavy tracks.

"Hi, girls." You introduce yourself, and Kate and Jess slowly turn to face you. If looks could kill.

"We've been here for half an hour, Nina." Kate speaks, subduing frustration. "Do you have any idea how hard it is to clean a tank with only half of the crew?"

You can guess.
>>
>>37127319

"Sorry, I didn't mean to sleep in as long as I did." You grimace, and turn to Emily. "At least we had Emily to get me up before you had to work any longer!" You give a nervous giggle.

"We've just sort of been pressure washing the outside of the tank, but I suppose since you're the commander you should really tell us how to clean this."

Presentable: it's a T-34

"We need to get the gun cleaned more than anything. If that gun fails on us the tank's absolutely useless."

For the next half hour, the four of you work on the gun. Oiling the breech, checking the mechanism, and ramming the cleaning rod down the gun - by far the most tiring act in cleaning it.
You go through several varieties of bore rammers, some hard and wirey, some soft, but all equally exhausting.
By the time you're finished, you're all sweating despite the climate of the French coast in winter.

> Nina Tuckemby - +2 FIELD REPAIR
> Jessica Blake - +2 FIELD REPAIR
> Katherine Archer - +1 FIELD REPAIR
> Emily King - +1 FIELD REPAIR

You step back to admire your handiwork - a nice, clean gun. The tracks are still mostly clogged with mud, and the hull is more dirt than paint on the lower half, but at least you got one of your vital components cleaned.

"Have you four even started yet?"

You turn around to see who's addressing you, and recognise her as Demi Cross, vice-captain of the team and commander of the SU-85.

"The tank's filthy! Your tracks are clogged with mud, too! Have you done anything to it?"

You gulp. You've been on the team a whole two days and you're already on the receiving end of your first bollocking.

"Who's the commander here?"

"I am." You speak up, trying to maintain a tone of confidence but like a bloodhound, she can practically smell the fear eminating from you.

"You're one of the newbies, aren't you? This tank cost the team several thousand dollars, and you're going to leave it in this state?!"

"Sorry, Ma'am." Why the hell did you just call her ma'am?!

"You're damn right you're sorry! Next maintenance period is after practice on Thursday. This tank better be in top shape by then or I'll wear you and your crew here like two pairs of autistic flip-flops! Do I make myself clear?!"

"Yes!" All four of you shout back in unison.

She turns sharply to the right, and marches away to her tank.
>>
>>37128010

You turn and look at your crew. Emily looks like she's about to break into tears, Jess looks shell-shocked, and Kate is fuming silently.

"Jesus Christ." You say, for lack of anything else. "She's terrifying."
Your crew nods in agreement.

The four of you are broken out of your stupour by the sound of Katherine's amplified voice. She's using the speakers on the Valentine again.

"Alright, crews! As I'm sure you're all aware, tonight is the night the ball drops and we ring in the New Year! I know we had a meal last night, but we're having another one tonight! We're having a theme this time though - Fancy Dress!"

The crews cheer.

"Anything will do, but I want to see plenty of tank costumes! Team dismissed!"

The courtyard explodes into chatter as the crews decide their costumes, and the roars of engines takes over as the tanks are moved back into the sheds.

...

It's 3 o'clock, and you and your crew are assembled outside the gates to the Tankery Grounds.

"I guess we better get our costumes ready." Jess speaks up.

"Yeah, but we're going to need to get changed out of these dirty uniforms first! We can come 'round my dorm, I'll wash them for you all!" Emily offers.

> What to do?
> Go look for costumes (Where?)

>bitches at us because we punched the tube
Yep, she's one of THOSE NCOs. She'd have bitched at us pretty much no matter what we did. We're gonna have to come in and do some maintenance in our downtime, I guess.

> Go to Emily's dorm first.
>>
>>37128027

"I'm up for it." Kate nods and smiles, followed by you and Jess both agreeing.

...

You all arrive at Emily's dorm, whereupon she opens the door and ushers you in. You've been around Emily's dorm before, but you're all still taken aback by how clean she keeps the place.
Every surface pristine, every object on every shelf neatly arranged. If you didn't know better, you'd think she had OCD.

The four of you strip down and change into your spare clothes you picked up from your dorms on the the way, and Emily scurries away to put them into her washing machine.

You take turns having showers to clean the oil and carbon from your skin and hair and before long, you're all looking as fresh as the day you were born, ready to go and buy your costumes.

"So, I was thinking we'd look in..." You start.

"We'll stop by the tankery shop! That's sure to have something."

...

Not before long, you've walked a fair few miles from the dorms to the tankery shop. It's a fairly small, glass-fronted building marked by a small generic tank insignia, and a sign reading "Scarridge and Sons Tank Supplies."
You've been here a few times to buy model tanks which you would idly assemble watching tankery on the television, so you're roughly familiar with the layout.

You all enter through the automatic glass doors, with a small bell ringing to signal your arrival.

After a short period of browsing, you stand in front of a wall rack with many different tankery uniforms and accessories mounted upon it.
A nice thick leather jacket catches your eyes, along with a leather tanker's hat.

Then suddenly, it clicks. "Kelly's Heroes!" You exclaim, prompting your crew to spin around in shock.

"We can do the crew from Kelly's Heroes!" You pick up the tanker's hat, tuck away your hair and place it on your head. "Look, I'm Oddball!" You throw on the leather jacket to complete the illusion.

"Yes! Oh my god!" Emily squeals. "We totally can! Dibs on the one with the fez!"

"I guess you'll be Moriarty, Kate?" Jess giggles.

"Ha, ha." Kate replies with a dead pan expression. This opportunity is too good to waste - fire up those impressions!

"Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves, Kate? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you-"

"Alright, Nina, I get it."

The girl behind the counter coughs to gain your attention, then informs you that you have to buy those now you've worn them.

"I guess we're going to have to do it then!" You smile at your crew.

...

A short while later, and just under a hundred dollars down the drain, you and your crew have bought all the military paraphanalia you could need to play Oddball's crew, bar one item - Emily's fez.

"I still need a fez!" Emily whines.

"Alright, Emily," You satiate her, "I'm not sure where to get one though. Maybe the supermarket?"

"I'd say the sewing shop's probably a safer bet, Nina." Jess argues, with the support of Kate.
It wouldn't hurt to go to the sewing shop, actually. It's closer to you than the supermarket, and you're supporting local business, or something.

...

Jess leads the way to the sewing shop suprisingly easily, considering none of you have ever visited it recently.

"Do you know someone who works here or something, Jess?" You ask.

"Nope," she replies, "I did some work experience here in junior year though. I'll probably be able to get a favour from them and get us that fez for cheap, if not free."

That's always nice. Lucky that your crew has connections. You could always do with making more connections though, if you get benefits like this.

Inside, the store is very cosy. Warm and compact, with rows of handmade clothes stretching away towards the back, ending in some changing rooms.
Jess approaches the desk, greeting the woman behind it before explaining your predicament. The large, kindly woman then wastes no time in whipping Emily away into a changing room where she emerges with a set of measurements, and sets to work on the fez.
Mere minutes later, the fez is completed, and you leave with it, free of charge.

It's about 4 o'clock now, which gives you some free time with the girls.

"I wouldn't mind. Might as well get a little to eat before tonight." Jess agrees. "Nina, Emily, you in?"

Gah. You'd like to go to a cafe, but there's the pressing issue of your dirty tank, and Demi breathing down your neck.

"Honestly, girls, we need to sort the tank before Demi rips our heads off."

Emily pauses, caught in thought, and Jess and Kate grimace at you.

Kate begins to speak. "Nina, we were doing that tank by ourselves for ages before you and Emily got there."

"Alright, I get that you guys are annoyed at me for sleeping in, and that I left you alone to work on the tank, and that got us chewed out, but we're a crew now!"

You look at Kate and Jess. They're warming up, but you're definitely not through to them yet.

"We're a crew, and I'm the commander. I know that you might be annoyed, but at the end of the day, this tank - our tank - needs cleaning, and I'm getting us to clean it."

They look uncomfortable, almost apologetic.

"Now, come on. I'll make up this morning's issue to you later. I owe you all a favour."

Kate nods her head, slowly and silently.

Jess finally opens her mouth. "Alright, Nina. I'll be taking that favour from you later, though." She chuckles.

...

The four of you head home to your dorms, change into overalls, and regroup at the Tankery Grounds. You make sure to be early.

"Fuckin' Demi chewed us out over this thing being dirty, so we'll just grab a pressure-washer each and go wild."

At least that's one benifit of being the only crew there - all the equipment is free, and you have plenty of space to work.

As Jess and Emily leave to grab the washers, you hop up onto the engine deck of your T-34/57 and assist Kate as she navigates it out into the courtyard.

...

With the four of you working quickly, you have the tank cleaned externally bar the roadwheels and tracks, revealing the brown and green winter camoflague scheme underneath.
That only took you about 15 minutes, so you have a couple of hours to spare before the New Year's meal with the team.

"No point just cleaning the hull. Might as well sort out the wheels."

Your crew groans at the thought of having to remove the tracks, and haul them over to where they can be cleaned properly.

A short while, 4 pairs of sore arms, and Jess' wet shirt later, the wheels and tracks have had the mud removed from them, and are looking perfecly servicible.
Hopefully, that should get Demi off your backs. It's nearing 6 o'clock now, and the dinner starts at eight, so unfortunately you dont have time to service the engine, too.

You and Jess go to put the washers away, and find a spare tankery overcoat to protect Jess' modesty whilst Kate is backed into the sheds with the assistance of Emily.
Before long, you're all walking together, tired and dirty, across the wet and soapy tarmac to the gates.

"We better start getting ready for tonight," Jess speaks as you're walking along. "Are we going to get changed at someone's dorm or are we all just going to meet up here when we're ready?"

"Emily, mind if we go to yours?"

"Not at all!" She replies. "Not sure if we'll have time to all take showers individually though - we're going to just have to shower communally!" She winks and giggles, causing Kate to go red in the face.

She sees Kates face and goes wide-mouthed for a second, before laughing harder.

"I was joking!"

...

A short while later, and you're all showered and cleaned, starting to get changed into your costumes, but not without a good deal of you bullying "Moriarty".

"We see our role as essentially defensive in nature..."

"NINA, PLEAASE!" Kate moans in desperation, causing Jess and Emily to lose their sides even harder.

Through her tears, Emily attempts to draw your attention to the fact that it's half seven, and you should really get going.

...

When you arrive at the Tankery Grounds, you're still a quarter of an hour early, so only a few people seem to have arrived. You might as well start mingling in now.

I'm not him, just another anti-quest fag.

It's the least you can do, really. I hate all the quests that show up, most if not all of them hateful to anyone who wasn't with the quest day 1 like some sort of retarded high school clique, with the content itself ranging from pretty decent to eye-gougingly terrible and no metric to easily identify which is which.

Also it's just not in my interests, and with as many quests there are, you really should have your own board by now.

So I'm tolerating your quests and don't come in to shit all over them like I know some faggots do, but is it so much to ask to help me forget about the quest threads so my auto-blocker gets it?

Yeah, sorry for not putting the title in. But that guy was a dickhead.
>>

You decide to talk to Ella's crew. You're getting pretty friendly with them.

They see your crew approaching from a distance, and throw you a wave collectively. You beam back.

"Hi, Ella, Keira, Tracee, Harriet, Lauren!"

They return the greetings and start laughing.

"Are you some sort of transgendered Kelly's Heroes?" Harriet is nearly wetting herself.

Time to ramp up the always-funny, never-old impersonations!

"Knock it off with them negative waves, Harriet!"

More laughter ensues.

"On a more serious note, I heard you getting screamed at by Demi." Ella cuts off her laughter.

"Yeah, she was pretty brutal." You admit.

"I also see that since then you've come and cleaned up the tank. That's admirable, but you really should have done that in the first place, guys."

"We thought it'd be a better idea if we cleaned up our vital stuff - a little mud won't stop a tank."

"I understand your reasoning, Nina, but this team takes presentability very seriously. Your tank should be ready for a parade after every training session. Save the critical components for the scheduled maintenance days."

"Alright, Ella, We'll keep that in mind."

"Also, don't be too offput by Demi. Her bark is worse than her bite."

With that, you depart from Ella's crew, leaving your crew behind and go to talk to your fellow recruits, the M6 crew.

When you arrive at the group, you notice that the party atmosphere is lacking and the girls seem to actually be rather concerned about something.
How are you going to introduce yourself?

You're going to have to go about this gently, and tactly.

"Hi, guys. What's the issue?"

Tact is not your strong point.

They turn to you and look at you, confused.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" A short girl says. They're all pretty short, actually. Probably Juniors.

"Nina - Nina Tuckemby. Commander of the T-34/57. I assume you're the M6 crew?"

The 5 girls nod.

"So, what's the issue?" You ask, a second time.

"The issue is that we need another crew member, but we just can't find one! Demi says if we're undercrewed for the match we won't get to compete!"

You grimace. Demi really is a nasty piece of work.

"Alright. How about this - Myself and perhaps my crew will help you go on a recruitment drive to find that last crew member. Sound good?"

She breaks from her sad face into a slight smile.

"Y-yeah. That'd be great. I'm Georgia Hayes, by the way. Nice to meet you, Nina."

Y-you too.

Time to grab the bull by the horns.

You walk over the the SU-85 which has had an cloth draped over its engine deck, and food placed upon it. Around the SU-85, inevitably, is Demi and her crew.

"Hi, Demi." You say. Alright, good, off to a good start, she isn't screaming at you ye-

"Oh, it's you! Little Miss Princess! The one who's afraid to get her hands dirty so she lets half her crew clean her tank whilst the other one makes breakfast! Well how have you been?! Broken any nails?!"

Oh fuck no please I didn't ask for this

"Speak up, girl!"

"W-well we cleaned the tank again, Demi."

"Oh, did you now?! Come on, we'll go and take a look at it!"

She grabs you by the collar, and drags you towards your pristine T-34/57.

>>
>>37132179

"D-Demi..." You wince inside at the oncoming storm. "W-we didn't actually service our engine or-"

"You didn't service the engine?!" You can see the steam building inside her. "You useless fuckwit! This engine is the heart and soul of your tank!"

You can feel your eyes glazing over as you develop PTSD.

"No! This is every organ of your tank! If this breaks down, and the tank is killed, I'll kill you, you maggot!"

Suddenly, she stops.

"Are you okay?" She asks, kindly.

Wow, that's a sudden change of character if you'd ever seen one.

"J-just a bit shak-"

"HEY, CHELSEA! CAN YOU GET THIS RECRUIT A NICE CUP OF SUCK THE FUCK UP?! SHE'S NOT IN KANSAS ANY MORE, THIS SHIT IS REAL!"

By now, your crew, Ella's crew and Demi's crew are watching.

"Sort this tank out by the next maintenance period!"

And with that, the storm left as quickly as it came.

Tail between your legs, and still suffering from your newly induced stress disorder, you stagger over to Katherine's crew. Seems your crew is talking to her too.

"Kathetine - D-Demi, she's fuck- she's crazy!" You stutter.

Katherine looks at you with a mix of amusement and pity.

"She roasted you, huh?"

You can only nod in reply, holding back the tears.

"It's alright, she treats everyone like that. That's why I keep her around! Always good to have a little fear motivating people!"

You stare at her like she just turned purple. "She's crazy!"

"I know she is."

>Talk to Katherine's Crew.

And cry a little.
>>
>>37133027

You turn the conversation to involve the rest of Katherine's crew, but Katherine herself cuts you off by climbing up onto the Valentine and speaking.

"Ladies and ladies! Tankers, old and new! A toast, to the New Year! May our children have beautiful mothers, and rich fathers!"

The team cheers, and you forget a little about the trauma of the past few minutes.

Ella comes around with trays of champagne, handing them out to the team. "They're non-alcoholic!" She says, with a wink.

...

So basically everyone drank a hell of a load of champagne with the exception of Kate and now you, Kate, Jess and Emily are staggering down the road back to the dorm, singing and swaying (with the exception of Kate, of course.)

At the moment, you honestly can't remember an awful lot, apart from Kate tucking you into bed, still clothed. What a wild night.

You stagger out of bed, dragging the covers with you as you go to the kitchen to get water.

You manage to pour the water successfully enough, but are less successful in drinking the water, and end up with wet clothes.

As you stumble back into your bedroom, you trip. This must be a sign!

DRUNKEN MIDNIGHT PUSHUPS!

You drunkenly flail on the floor, performing a motion that vaugely looks like a dying fish out of water. You try to count to 53, but you aren't sure if that's even a number.

You collapse where you lie, and fall asleep.
