You are Risa Schrodinger, and you are currently glaring at a frog that dares trespass on your shrine made domain. Last time you partied with the Norse and tried to secure beefy, but it turns out that an entire race that has dealt with Loki for the whole of forever is really hard to prank so that plan sort of fell through. Then you wanted to go get ice cream, so you tried to let the woman in your basement out to go get ice cream with you, but she just sort of ran off because long term captivity does not necessarily endear you to people. Generally in fact it does the opposite; lesson learned you guess. Then you tried to get back at the ice cream thing, but everyone else had gone back to their unlives because you seemed awfully busy with forcibly keeping the random woman with you because reasons. Then you sat down, and are currently waiting for them to get done so you can go do something or other. You pounce after the frog, but it leaps away and gives a manly croak into the afternoon, his voice truly awful for back ground narration like some people we know. “What’s with you and that Joe Leahy bloke anyway? We keep getting letters asking us to stop sending dead animals to him.” You wonder.

Bastard hack stole a position I applied for away from me. “Hold up, you’re looking for another gig?” I keep my options open. Anyway, you have an unsettling vision of you without your quirky sidekicks, then look over the shrine.

You had planned on getting ice cream for some reason, your logic being that it would make everyone happy somehow, but you are uncertain if that is all you want to do in life. You could also try and find another target for your insatiable appetite for destruction, as well as your appetite for cannibalistic indulgences, and the other sort of appetites you have. You could also want to go check out what’s going on in certain people’s lives, or unlives as it were. You hear a got sounds and—oh! You gave Sin-Fin a goat you won in a drinking game! She likes goats, while we find their eyes creepy. You look up, then back to the shrine. Sin-Fin is still probably in her murderous depression, Jager is still doing some sort of paperwork, Ryoko is off being a teenager, your Plantbro is likely being adorable, Caede is also adorable but not as much as Hillary, and your toes are somewhat cold! Curse that frog and his toe chilling magics!

What’s the plan man?

[] Wait, collect for Ice Cream, then get Ice Cream.
[] Go see Azzy at her club.
[] Go see Sin-Fin, make sure the goat didn’t goat her.
[] Check on Jager, you gots some stuffs in your brain parts about her.

Should we collect Plantbro and Sin-Fin, too? We can take them along on our daily routine that will last all of ten minutes and get them to socialize with everybody around the shrine or something.
>>
>>37142185
>Go see Sin-Fin
I submit to the horde of terrible ideas that making some progress with Sin-Fin is a good idea, not just because it would make her a more effective ally, but it also might make Jager think us more trustworthy and thus letting us help her more, seeing as last thread Jager called us out on possibly doing more harm than good by doing a nice thing for Sin-Fin and then immediately ignoring her.
>>
>>37142295
Ah Forgot best scrub! Best scrub should come too!
>>
Fairly sure we agreed to buy TSSA at the end of last thread.
>>
>>37142185

Well, dwelling on all of those failures right out of the gate kind of has me down. Anyway, seems folks wanted to get Operation HW going today, and I want to see some progress done on that. There's a lot of shit to do to get shit done. Tell me what you think of this as a preemptive strategy, folks:

> Contact Lucy
> Tell him we are going after the Hellfire Wyrm as a service to him and to help us uphold our end of the bargain with him
> Ask that he kindly request Natsuki help us with more than just the Angel attacks on the shrine (read: Mendel)

> Contact Mendel
> Tell her we want a deal settled in hard print and signed off with terms we won’t break (by pinky swearing, promises to the doctor, etc).
> Be frank with her, we don’t want to have to watch our back for her while we are dealing with the angels, which is a threat we both share impeding progress to our respective goals.
Note: This is not a trap to lure Mendel down so we can eat her. Still can’t believe Azure misinterpreted that last time with “amnesty for a visiting agent”.

Conditions:
> We get our scrubs back.
> She gets a voice on our shrine’s council (I’d request Polite Scrub, for the irony).
> Trades in valuable research material or progress will be handled on an as-needed basis.
> We both get an end to hostilities so long as no one gets an itchy trigger finger.

> Launch Operation Angry Iguana
> Get Azzy’s help tracking their position (She’ll enlist Mephy if necessary, I’m sure.)
> Bring Azzy, Sin Fin, Jager, Ryoko, and Caede along.
> No perfect plan from here.
> Go, fight, win!

Guys, before you pick this option, it might be a good idea to figure out a specific goal of what we want to get out of talking to Jager, like what we want to convey to her, and what outcome we would like her response to be.

Otherwise it's going to just be dithering around.
>>
>>37142185
>[] Go see Sin-Fin, make sure the goat didn’t goat her.
>>
>>37142342

It's worth noting that we can discuss plans to kill HW over ice cream with all of the gang plus Azzy. This simply gives us something to do in the meantime, while we wait on Jager.
>>
>>37142440
what, you don't read?
>ask her if we can make an ice cream sundae on her abs
>>
>>37142342
I disagree with this course of action, as I believe that neither Sin-Fin nor Jager are in good combat ready states at this point in time.

Instead, I propose that after checking on Sin-Fin, and perhaps getting Ice Cream, we talk to Kuebiko about how one might reach Izanami the traditional way, and go on a quest for that purpose. We will likely face some powerful opponents along the way, possibly gain a strong ally (and give Sin-Fin someone she should in theory be able to relate to, thus maybe making her less sad) and clear the way to Izanagi, who might be fun to destroy.
>>
>>37142529
Mmmm Abs.
>>
>>37142529
I read. And I don't think that is likely to lead to a good outcome or even a particularly humorous one at this point in time.

One thing that might be a good idea though would be to find some way to persuade Jager to wear that collar that Asmodeus gave to her.

Ordinarily I would be suspicious, but I think in Jager's current state, I believe that loosening up and learning to enjoy herself might help her be less miserable.

However, how to talk her into doing such a thing is another question entirely.
>>
>>37142440

Well, I think someone tried to ask for story options on the ask so that we don't have to start this on an awkward attempt at conversation. The bottom line is, Risa can't do this by having the angry voices tell her to yell at Jager to not be depressed. We need Azure's help to make her receptive to change, to make this part of a natural process.

What ended up happening was misunderstandings and people yelling at people that they were other people and thus should shut up.

I won't say whoever stated things in the perfect way, but I personally want those options. Believe it or not, some of us have depression and the bottom line is that you can't just change a person who has a sever emotional disorder. You can't just yell the PTSD out of them. They have to decide to come to terms with it themselves, to choose to live a happier life. You can help them reach out by being approachable, but you can't pull them out of the water or they'll just fall right back in.
>>
>>37142676
The collar fucks with her mind. So I'd say no.

Jager? Dealing with your issues on your own or with our help? Nah let's get magical mind fuckery in here to warp your perception.
>>
>>37142696
Are you the guy who just constantly repeated the same nonsense and wound up pissing off literally everyone who so much as glanced at Azure's ask?

Because that isn't how it works, you know. We need to find the right angle to show us being helpful, which is pretty much what I just fucking posted.

Doing something without a plan and expecting the QM to just make it work is not only a horrible idea, it's also why shitty things keep happening in this quest.

“Sin-Fin may be being goated.” Not a thing. “Shut your mouth. To the shortest of all fins!” You declare and make a romp over to her place in the Shrine.

You climb the wall, then roll into her room. You strike a pose, and when you look up you are face to face with the square eyes of the goat lord. Goat-Fin? Sin-Goat? Needs work. Anyway you glare at the creature, who could fill the night sky with all the fucks he does not give, then look up. Sin-Fin is sitting on her bed looking at a small book. It is “The Never Ending Story”, translated in Spanish to—Oh, I get it.

She looks up at you, then back down at the book. She gently strokes the cover, and seems hesitant to open it. “Can she even read Spanish?” You wonder. Come on, she’s an arrancar! All hollows are Spanish. This is some simple shit.

“Hola Funny-Fins.” You say sitting down on the bed with a smile. “How you doing?”

She looks up at you, then at the goat, then back to her book. “Nor…mal.” She explains, and the wave of depression that fills the room at her words almost makes you want to gag. It doesn’t seem to bother the goat though.

“Because the goat is magic?” You ask, and Sin-Fin looks up at you concerned, and without understanding. No, because goat don’t give a fuck.

“Well, don’t you want ice cream?” You ask.

“if you want… it.” She says.

“Come on! It’s wonderful and sweet and cold!” You say.

She looks down at the book. “Everything tastes the… same.” She mumbles, and you are not totally sure who she is talking to.

[] Ask her about something (The book maybe? She is a bugger to deal with. Oh, uh, write in maybe.)

>>
>>37142784
We can read the book to the goat!

What.. she has a collection of things! LOOK AT THE THINGS WITH THE GOAT!
>>
>>37142676

Leaving her out in the cold when we could invite her to something fun is not going to help anything. We are inviting her because she is a part of our family, and we don't get to spend enough time with her. Hell, Risa doesn't even have any reason to suspect that Jager is horribly depressed (since it hasn't really come up in story).

Giving her mind altering magic isn't a good idea. If nothing else, please remember, Azzy's collar loosens inhibitions. It doesn't and won't make her happier. It will just lower her ability to hide how deep her emotional pain might be running. That could be helpful, or it could just be embarrassing for her, or it might just give her the courage to do something we will all regret (killing herself, in case you missed my meaning).
>>
>>37142784
>[] Look at her collection of things. We never did that before

Ask her about the things. Story-time with Sin-Fin
>>
>>37142841
We never revoked the invitation though. She's still planning on getting ice cream with us, as soon as she's done her paperwork which she got from... somewhere. I'm not quite sure where. That was where we left off on the last thread.

And it is true that the collar might be negative, but if that is the case, then we just have to remove it from her, even if that means breaking it.

I feel like by this point, we really shouldn't think Asmodeus would intentionally screw us over, and Jager did accept it as a gift, despite knowing the nature of it.
>>
>>37142818
I'm not sure how hating her would be a reasonable response. Do you just not like people talking about her, or the idea that allies require maintenance?
>>
>>37142776

No, I'm not. I am the one who tried to translate what that other anon was asking so Azure could answer the question properly rather than having a pages long back and forth that was getting both sides noticeably more irritated (which was made worse when Azure threw up his "helpful" player feedback posts, which was more inflammatory than anything else posted).

I would disagree as to whether what you posted is a good idea for a solution (assuming you are >>37142676), but that is neither here nor there.
>>
>>37142957
Azzy won't Intentionally screw us over. She want's everyone to do what their baser impulses desire. Meaning Jager could instead of acting like her calm collected self. Go pound The Great ME! Or just put Risa down because right now she's holding back for a friend. The collar. Alters her mind. A Bad Idea.

You look over at the various objects she has around the room, and decide to go look at it. “What do you mean you get it? I don’t get it. What’s the deal with the book?” You wonder. I get it.

You look over the things on the shelf and recognize some of it. You see a small stuffed animal owl she got when you all went to the zoo, a fish picture from the aquarium, a metronome from when she was part of the faculty of the school, and of course your short bread you gave her when you first met. However, the rest of it is random stuff that you have never seen before. There is a snow globe, some small cracked gears, a feather that hums softly with grace that sort of makes you hungry, a picture of what looks like Sin-Fin and some people you do not recognize that has aged considerably, a small collection of books that are in various languages, and a pair of sunglasses.

“This is certainly an odd collection.” You say looking over the stuff.

She looks over at you. “I had more but… they got lost. Or they got taken. Or people broke them… in front of me because… I did something.” She says.

“Because you did something? What did you do?” You ask.

“I don’t know but… it was probably… my fault.” She says.

“That’s depressing.” You say looking over the stuff.

She is not saying anything. Anything interesting you?

Well, maintenance is one thing. I think right now we might be looking at more of a reconstruction effort judging by what Azure has said over the ask, which I hoped wouldn't be the case.

I mean, had she been just a Nazi scientist, maybe we could have dealt with that. But she was actually Super Nazi Jager, the greatest, evilest Nazi to ever live. She was also a tragic figure, a martyr and a rape victim. I... I don't know how to begin counseling that.

Then why the fuck does the collar even exist in the first place? Consider that it wouldn't work on us or Sin-Fin, and instead of a bracelet or a ring or whatever, the artifact took the form of a collar, and Jager is still at least mildly wolf/dog themed. Having her wear it is the obvious purpose of it, and I choose not to believe that AE would give us something that exists only to make things worse.

Now, I will admit that it could be that there would be better times than others for her to wear it, and this could be a bad time, but I do not agree with the notion that she must never wear it ever, because to me, that doesn't really make sense.

>>
>>37143177
Ask her if she'd like to go back to teaching, since I'm pretty sure Ryoko is in school, and it would give her something to do.

Also, do we have a bass guitar on hand? I'd kind of like to form a band, and I feel like that instrument might be the least likely to fill everyone with despair who hears it. That, or drums. You can't convey sorrow with drums.
>>
>>37143404

Umm.... It was actually a gift meant for Ryoko. She has kind of a BDSM kicker and she wanted Risa to do naughty things to her. Azzy just gave it to us because she thought we'd have fun with it.

Azure mentioned it was more than a throw away item, and there was some brief issue over it that ended with it going to Jager. It wasn't really "meant" for Jager in that sense. That's just where it ended up.
>>
>>37143404
>give us something that exists only to make things worse.

Really? How about that poker game? That Let's Take Power! We need that!

Not every option is an open free for all of good or useful. When we got that we were just mindlessly trying to get Jager to fuck Risa.

“What’s with the book? I don’t get it.” You say.

She looks down. “It has my name… on it.” She lifts the book and points at the title as if she were somehow proud of this.

On the title, in delicate handwritten scrawl, are the words “La Historia Sin Fin”. You nod, “Ah yeah, I see.”

She sets the book down when she realizes you are not as proud of this “achievement” as she is. You look back at the books, and frown. “So where did you get these things anyway? Seems a little odd for a hollow to have.”

She looks over at the books, then shrinks back a little as if afraid to answer this question, but she does so anyway either because of an unstoppable compulsion or because she is afraid of what will happen if she doesn’t. “They were a gift from a… friend. A very long time ago.”

“You fancy reading?” You ask.

She shakes her head. “He gave them to me because he wanted me… to be happy.”

“Where is he now then?” You wonder.

“I killed him.” She answers.

“Why?” You reply.

“I was supposed… to.” She says.

Helpful. “That reminds me! Did you like being a teacher?” You wonder. “You were certainly popular.” More popular than some people anyway. “I was best teacher.” You mutter.

She glances around. “I do not… know. I did not hate it.” She answers.

“More or less than fighting?” You ask.

She looks around, and you imagine a normal person would be in a cold sweat over the situation. “Mo…re a bit I think.” She finally answers little more than a mutter.

Seems she is undecided about the teaching thing. You did have some laughs, eh?

“So why are you wearing the jester’s outfit again? Not that you don’t look ravishing, but we bought you a whole bloody wardrobe, didn’t we?” You ask.

“I didn’t want them to get… dirty.” She says.

You tilt your head. “That’s why God invented washers and dryers.”

“They will eventually… break. I do not want them to break so… soon.” She explains.

You note her hair is straight and wiry as normal, and consider buying her some conditioner or something to make it fluffy, then you realize a fluffy-fin would be too dangerous for your health. You finally grab her by the wrist and pull her away to find Jager for ice cream. You make sure to put the book away because the goat would probably eat it otherwise, then slide down the pole you had installed in the room. Sin-Fin weakly dangles from her wrist in your grip as you slide down, but you don’t mind it too much because she looks adorable.

You open the door to Jager’s office and see her looking over some stuff. “Jager! Ice Cream! We waited, then Sin-Fin was all ‘Like, oh my god, we need to, like, totally get ice cream’” You have a disturbingly accurate Valley Girl accent. “And I tried to stop her, but Ice Cream!” You say.

“Fine, fine. We can go” She says with a sigh. “Who did you want to come exactly?” She asks.

Jager attracts enough "attention" on her own. lets keep it small. no need to bring more when they'll just be ignored.

"Can I make a sundae on your abs? I'll let you pick the flavor of ice cream..."
>>
>>37144186

I think this will be excellent bonding for Caede, who I know isn't derelict at the moment. I'm not really sure we can do a perfect, functional fieldtrip for the other two (Sin Fin and Jager).

I know Sin Fin wants to be closer to us though, and I suspect that if we bring Jager along, she will open up with some dialogue. It is better than sitting in her office waiting for her to do so.

Azure kind of mentioned that there are triggers, we just have to figure out how to expose them. Any and all stimulus is good for that.

I just don't want to take everyone out of the shrine without giving Natsuki an incentive to watch our asses.

Azzy's a laugh, we haven't seen Yuki in forever, and maybe bringing around a good thing Jager's done recently will cheer her up.
>>

I don't think that's a good thing.

That is delightfully dark, AE. Sin-Fin seems to view centuries as the smallest unit of time. She is so intractable, because we are a delta spike.
>>
>>37144124
I really don't think we're up to doing that yet though. Like while I agree with taking him down being a goal, I don't really think he's something that will make our allies better. It's more that defeating him is something done to demonstrate how much better they've gotten.
>>
>>37144234
Just Jager, Fins, and Plant.
>>
>>37144394
what quest are you reading? That is not what happened at all.
>>
>>37144394

Well, this is a great question: Can we trust Azzy? Is the one good thing Jager's done just to feed a vulnerable teen to a sex crazed monster?

I'd like an answer to that. More seriously, I'm positive Jager has been keeping up with Yuki's health. She's responsible, and not constantly dragged off to every corner of the world.
>>
>>37144294
I guess I don't really see what you expect to get from saying something so dumb.

Like at best it'd merit an eye roll and a sigh. Not even the good kind either.
>>
>>37144440

Azzy kind of has... habits, and Yuki was described as sunken eyed and tired looking. When we were able to ask why Azzy had him building furniture, we got a tilde, meaning we probably didn't want to know.

She's kind of raping the dragon princess into a coffee table as we speak, and we confirmed that one.

>>
>>37144659
Yeah what kind of paper work is she doing? That doesn't even make sense.
>>
>>37144615

Thing is, Azzy's club is almost like a stomach. Remember all the times we have been there before and Azure told us that the feeling of decaying souls could be felt right before they disappeared into nothing? Azzy's club is like her stomach combined with an angler fish. She draws people in, convinces them to stay a while with the song and dance and the weakest never find the strength to leave.

She never forces them to indulge her. They do that on their own. Some may not want to leave so badly that they are willing to submit to an eternity as something other than human, but that is their free will, and not Azzy's place to question.

We love her, but she earned her reputation, and I don't think Little Sister Risa has changed her much.
>>
>>37144683
Blind seems a bit harsh, since she's been willing to open up to us before, hasn't destroyed us the times we made her angry, and she almost got herself killed because she was concerned for our safety.

And come on, she's not 'a' demon of lust, she's THE devil of lust.
>>
>>37144234

> Ask Jager what she's been working on

The shrine doesn't have a lot of infrastructure, meaning paperwork would probably exist to handle extrinsic matters. I'm curious who she's been talking to, but I'd make it clear that we value her service.

> Invite Azzy and Yuki

Then we'll get to the bottom of this matter
>>
>>37144737
That's not much better. Either way. Azzy and her items need caution. If she slips up personally she may turn Risa to paste. Remember her last rage fit? When we left her in between worlds I think.. or was it universes or planes?

its been almost a year since her introduction. (thread 53, 01/31/14)
she has been nothing but nice, supportive, and helpful to us. Not once has she been intentionally malicious.

the two times she's been mad at Risa was when we peeked at her memories without her consent and when we left her in the weird place when we got the munchies, both reasonable things to a bit get pissy over and she reigned in temper on every rare occaision

>>37144774

why would Risa want her to change at all?

“Can I make a Sunday on your abs? I will even let you pick the flavor.” You say wiggling your eyebrows.

“No” She answers briskly and, almost annoyed really. Like she doesn’t find your delightful suggestions as cute as she normally does. Odd, and not as palatable as I would like.

You glance at the documents on her desks and see a large amount of numbers, and figures, and maybe a graph. You have no idea what it means, but it is probably something relating to something sciency judging by the schematics she has on one of the pages. Interesting, why weren’t we briefed about this? There are also figures for requisitioning science items, and budgeting concerns for the shrine, and certain off the book projects. Very odd

“Maybe Sin-Fin is just filling her brain with sad stuff. Let us be off!” You say pumping your fist into the air like you just don’t care! Because you do not! You honky tonk woman you.

You pick up Plant Bro along the way and go into the town. On the way you pass by a van selling some sort of food outside your shrine, but you don’t pay it any mind despite the savory smell wafting out of the open windows. You go into the city and go into the ice cream place you took those people whose names you have long since forgotten. You give a call to Asmodeus and tell her to bring Yuuki, and she says she will see what she can do.

>>
>>37144879

Again, you are assuming that Azzy would turn the guy into mush. I wrote (>>37144714) mostly to point out the possibility and clue in those who didn't know/arrived late. Azzy also has learned self control, within reasonable bounds. She loves Jager and wouldn't want to hurt her by hurting something that could be construed as a child she sent her. I also don't think Azure is going to do something to force this delicate matter down a darker rabbit hole than it needs to go through.

You sit down with your snack, and pass out the various treats to the others. Sin-Fin mechanically eats spoonful after spoonful, and you don’t think she is really tasting it, while Jager sips her float and just sort of casually looks out the window with a melancholic expression. Wait, they serve root beer floats here? Should have ordered that.

Rose looks between the group and gives you a difficult smile as if the atmosphere is getting to him. Seems your plant has noticed the atmosphere, but doesn’t quite know how to deal with it.

Given the present trend in Azure's logic, she might be building a doomsday weapon "for us" in a distinctly different sense. I wouldn't understand why, mind you, but it just seems to be the trend.

It confuses me in the same way that Azure is now writing out this bad blood between Risa and Jager, which has no cause to exist. I just hope she doesn't go "No, I won't tell you what I'm about, because you will just wreck all of my plans" or else we really will have trust issues.

I mean, maybe he's writing out her depression as passive aggression toward everyone, but I feel it doesn't do proper service to the fact that Risa and Jager have been best friends for years now.

That's what I'm worried about: the Risa-filter that our dialogue will go through. >>
>>37145994

There's no accusation of railroading in there, though. The fact is, our chances of trying to help Jager are dismal when it comes to words for all the reasons that post outlines. It's like saying, if the QM feels generous. Hell, at least I'm putting faith in him.

>>
>>37146128
Oh good, because that made me angrier than the rap battle. At least then we had an excuse.
>>
>>37146093

We've passed this one around a lot, basically since the quest started. There's always been a question of how much we are supposed to be Risa and how much we are supposed to be the sage council in Risa's head.

If we were perpetually "in-character" we would have a terrible time with Risa. This quest would have long since broken and devolved into something completely dysfunctional because Risa, as a character, is nonfunctional and prone to violently stupid escapades.

Rap Battle was in-character. Saying no to Mendel for petty reasons was in-character. So, in the end, the question of how often we are supposed to be in-character and how much we are supposed to be sitting in the war room of her brain is the most fundamentally important that we don't have an answer to yet.
>>
>>37146093
Being in character means being an idiot who only knows and really cares about fighting, and hurts everyone the more she's around them

“There isn’t anything to talk about.” She says.

“You have been weird ever since Mendel decided you are her favorite!” You say. “Like, come on, clearly something is crawling around your knickers and not in a good way! There is clearly something to talk about.” You point out.

She looks irritated. “What’s there to talk about? I was the worst sort of human being when I was alive, and did the worst things imaginable.” She says.

Progress! “That Nazi thing?” You wonder.

“Obviously the Nazi thing.” Fair. “I was a member of a group of people that even deranged sociopaths can say ‘At least I wasn’t part of those guys, eh?” The sociopath in her theory is Canadian. “I got over it, I’m fine.”

“You don’t sound fine.” You point out.

She never had a chance to test her theories, and putting her mind against the greatest soldiers the allied front had to offer was intoxicating. Each victory made her smile cruelly, every failure gave her inspiration for the next plan.”

“No. Not that kind of work. Not with that sort of life.” She counters.

Jager has inherited those memories and experiences, but that does not make her the same person. This would be akin to a caterpillar metamorphosing into a butterfly. Even though they're both still insects and made of atoms and molecules and stuff, they're not really the same at all. She also has enough introspection and a conscience to have a moral dilemma over this, and that sort of thing certainly isn't a characteristic of a cruel Nazi researcher.
>>
>>37146383
Maybe not literal different people, but she's certainly changed a ton since then. She even said it herself - "I was the worst sort of human being when I was alive" Was.

Just spitballing stuff here, but should we even mention that we met Jager's former persona? Perhaps tell her what she said to us? Didn't Nazi-Jager ask if her other self was happy, and that she didn't want to return if that was the case? Or would Jager remember all of that since she has all of Nazi-Jager's memories now?
>>

"And the wicked scientist's plans were eventually foiled, and she was held accountable to her crimes, and while I wouldn't say she was brought to justice, revenge will do in a pinch. And even after her ignoble, though arguably deserved end, her suffering was not yet over. Her soul itself broke, and took the form of a feral beast, consumed by its own despair, loneliness, and above all else, hunger. This pitiable creature wandered the earth for forty goddamn years, seeking to fill itself, to make it whole again. Eventually, it did so, through the addition of thousands upon thousands of other lost fragments of souls, but even with them to serve as glue, the pieces weren't put back in the same order, leaving a bit of a gap. And that new puzzle, thrust into a minimalist, Darwinistic limbo, learned how to trust, and eventually how to care.

...And now what? Now that you've seen how the picture was originally put together, do you decide that all that has happened in between doesn't count? I'm not going to talk to you about what you do or don't deserve, but who you were doesn't have to define who you are and definitely not who you will be."

I don't know how to fit this in, but I think bringing up that it's not like she was just all of a sudden nice after she became a hollow or even an arrancar. She was still pretty hard around the edges, and just had some loyalty to us. Like remember when she advised we kill Sin-Fin for her first betrayal? The compassion was something she learned and allowed to grow in her, just like the life she brought to Las Noches.

“So you remember all of it?” You ask.

She shrugs. “The important parts at least.”

“So you had super ghost magic, but still lost? How did that happen?” You continue.

“The allies had their own programs, and I suppose we lost for the regular reasons people lose wars. Not enough bullets, beans, and bodies. Didn’t help that Berlin was full of idiots.” She says.

“Huh.” Captain America! “She was someone different you know. She wasn’t you at all! The fact you can separate you from her sort of shows that right?” You explain.

“I can’t just run away from who I was. It’s a form of denial I guess, where I try not to get totally crushed by the weight of the monster I am.” She explains.

“But you feel regret it right? That means you are different.” You say.

“You can only regret things you have done. It’s fine, not like it matters to you anyway.” She says.

Should we mention that while Risa goes off on long benders eating stuff and not being there, it's because she's so terrified of what would happen if she couldn't step up in the event that something came to threaten Jager and everyone there? Risa is an incomplete being, but what pieces of her do comprehend friendship and caring do sincerely worry as much as they can about everyone's well-being.

After Asmodeus got young again and Mendel blew up her base, Risa's soul gem was placed in a cell in heaven that Raphael told her was meant to show whatever she desired. Because it initially blocked out us, the voices, it remained a blank void, implying Risa doesn't actually have any will or opinions. Which... I really dislike, especially since it seemingly contradicts what she did when she was trapped in her soul gem without us or monologue, and it seems to be implying that the players are actively detrimental to Risa's growth as a person, and it's really hard to play if it feels like our participation is unwanted.
>>
>>37147544
Or we're her desires and we're not apart of her. We're her humanity and we're trapped on fucking 4 chan.
>>

Hollows of all sorts and sizes are incomplete beings, right? Or in Risa's case, she can't really feel as a normal human would, or as a more humanized hollow can. It could be that Risa does not have the capacity to process want in the same way that more complete beings do.

To use a crude comparison, it's like making a keyboard-detecting machine and running it on a smartphone or smart tablet. It can mimic a keyboard and carry out keyboard functions pretty well, but it doesn't have any actual keyboard.

Or Risa has what she desires already, and wants nothing more.
>>
>>37147544
Or Risa just wants oblivion. It would make sense what with the life of thrillseeking/drugs/escapism followed by a train of suicide.

[Read to myself, in the voice of Bryan]

Well the world can be confusing
But don’t let it rot your head
Cuz’ life can be mad
But it ain’t so bad
There’s pity for the dead

Sides, you felt sorry in the end
Coming round that final bend
Maybe not enough you said
But here’s the rub
Please think instead

Of all you’ve done
And all you’ve seen
And through it all just how you’ve been
My greatest mate, a conscionable lass
And the only that keeps my ass

Trying so hard to be a better me
Cuz always I look back and see
You trying hard for other folks
When I would have just said
“Fuck those blokes”

But that’s who you are
My shining star
You care deeply for others
And are raising the bar
Of what being dead can really be
It’s why you mean so much to me

I still limbo under, needless to say
But don’t ever forget, for even a day
You are now who you chose to be
It’s the truth love, death has set you free

Risa tries to impress upon her just how much she cares. She follows up with one of her old rhyme and sing schemes to be sweet.

“Course it does Jager! Because you matter to me, you silly bint! I bloody love you, so of course it matters! Think about it in the reverse, what if I was troubled about my memories of the living world?” You wonder.

You look off into the distance and things get hazy as you flashback to the time when you were alive. “Hello there Risa, my what a wonderful day it is!” Sir Worthington of Delaware says.

“Just so. Shall we ravage each other?” Madam Delaware asks you while lustily removing her bonnet.

You smile as you take off your shirt and—“SCREEEEEEEE!” The life bandit bursts through the wall and violates your stomach with a chainsword that blooms carnage flowers into your brain.

Your flashback ends. “Why was everything on fire?” You wonder. I don't bloody know. Anyway Jager, I love you, you sexually confusing, muscular, German wolfu thing.” You don’t even know what that means. “I offered you my unlife! That is way more important than my life! I was all ‘Oi, you want to kill me? You damn well can if you want!’ Then you almost did and I let you!” You say.

“We see how that turned out.” She mutters.

“The bloody hell does that mean?” You ask.

She sighs. “Nothing. It doesn’t mean anything.”

“Passiveness doesn’t work on me! I get confused and scared! Be frank with me, or I’ll cry!” You shout. “The voices are throwing things at each other, and at me, and one of them is wearing a fox full body costume, like an animal mascot, and I don’t bloody well know what that is supposed to mean! He has a hole in the groin, and he is making hissing noises at me! That’s how bloody well upset I am!”

“That’s—what?” She asks.

“He licks my ear when I sleep sometimes. Sometimes he says my mother’s name.” You look over at Plantbro who is sharing a face of confusion with Jager. “He knows. Anyway, look if you are feeling miserable about it we should talk! Maybe have a nice cuppa.”

“Like I said, it doesn’t matter.” She sighs.

You look around. “Look, hey, there is more bothering you right? Hey, we should talk about it, this—I just want us to be mates again, like in the old days. You have had some troubles, and maybe I haven’t been paying enough attention to you but we can do better. We can fix this.”

She sighs and you press it and start singing a song from something about a Brian spelled weird.
“Well the world can be confusing
But don’t let it rot your head
Cuz’ life can be mad
But it ain’t so bad
There’s pity for the dead” You say and hear a snapping as Asmodeus walks over in a waiter outfit to join you.

“Sides, you felt sorry in the end
Coming round that final bend
Maybe not enough you said
But here’s the rub

Man, friendship is a two-way street. If she has issues, she had every opportunity to come to us to vent or to lean on our shoulder to cry. She thinks we didn't care about her? Then we would have left her to rot and not have passed up all of those upgrades. Maybe we need to stop being so apologetic and let our frustrations loose on her. If she's not willing to make this work and refuse every olive branch that we extend, then perhaps this is a lost cause.

You're right on blowing up at Jager being a candid, human response at this point. Jager has been acting like a terrible person, if not a terrible friend for a little while now, and I wouldn't associate with her were she one of my friends in real life.

However, that isn't the right action for helping her out of this shit. Azure is writing her like he thinks a depressed person should act. All we can do is keep pushing and wait for Azure to throw us a freaking bone, since all of our effort and sincerity just isn't good enough to capture this elusive prize.

It's the same with fighting, how we alternate from paralyzing paranoia, to not-giving-a-fuck recklessness.
>>
>>37148973
We are concerned for her sake. But every time we try to show it... We fail. So it's leading to frustration.
>>
>>37148956
I'm sure I'd believe you if you actually showed us the posts for that?
>>

What if when we follow her, we don't talk much and just kind of try to keep her company? Like let our continued presence do it for us?

So what's your guys' plan(s) to get Jager to calm down?

supportive, Monty python reference, and pity didn't work. Maybe some kind of tough love? call her out on her punishment desires? BDSM maybe?

suggest anons suggest!
>>
>>37148987
Yeah, you're right. I'm just frustrated at all of this.

We shouldn't keep pushing for it just because she lashes out and knocks our hand away. She needs support right now, whether she likes it or not.

And hope that she doesn't have another anti-Risa weapon planted on her that she'll use in a pique of irrational fury.
>>
>>37149013
Yeah.. I'd have to fucking find it.. and that's.. a not an easy search.

The unlife thing was easy to find I just picked that up over the last few threads.

Huh different thought.

Maybe Jager was hoping slapping Risa would knock some of the Crazy out of her?
>>
>>37148987
And of course we left Sin-Fin alone and she quickly faded into the background, even though we were initially concerned with her.

So we're fucking up on two fronts.

God this is frustrating.

That's kind of my thoughts on the whole affair. I love the characters when they are acting like themselves and being wonderful, positive people. This sort of awkward melodrama being shoe horned into the plot combined with the inherent ineptitude of Risa in dealing with these sorts of affairs drags on me like a lead weight.
>>
>>37149148
It's not really shoehorned in. And Sin-Fin was never positive.

>Destruction Jager was bad
>>
>>37149164

She somehow got sadder, and it's all our fault. As for shoe horning it in, I honestly don't feel this is an essential part of the plot that needed to be included to tell an engaging story. I see it as a story tellers desperate grasp at injecting emotional depth into their story, so that their one great work can be a holistic piece.

This can be done well, however, the juxtaposition of light and dark themes is working in such a way that it devalues the original values while trying to allow the others room to breathe. I don't know about you, but I've enjoyed these sorts of issues less than the fundamental issue of whether to kick more dragon ass or demon ass with our best buddies.
>>
>>37149196
Well that was rude and unnecessary I stated it was my opinion and everything.

>>37149243

>If she has issues, she had every opportunity to come to us to vent or to lean on our shoulder to cry.
Since when do friends with martyr complexes sit down with other friends to discuss shit unless other friends bring out an intervention first?

I think we should have stayed with her post-son clone killing or Mendel brainwashing for the intervention. This is what happens when we put things off too long.

I didn't even know there was a huge Jager crisis until someone brought it up with AE on the ask.fm.
>>
>>37149269

Like I said, it can be done well, and I agree with the sentiment that endless battle can be dull. However, these specific issues that we are so ill equipped to resolve being thrust into the plot don't really engage me as a player.
>>
>>37149312
that won't work, we need to slap her out her depressed self loathing funk, preferably verbally.
>>
>>37149312
No. We'd just fuck things up with that as well. The only time I can remember comforting her was when we were a kid.. and we caused that.. by being a kid.

We could try to just hug it out with her.. but most likely she'll get mad at us for being manipulative and not taking it seriously.

I like this quest, but sometimes I get the feeling that this is like a DM trying to force a person to convince someone on the spot without taking their character's CHA score or modifier into account. Or making someone swing a weapon IRL to determine how well they hit an enemy.
>>
>>37149339

Nor did I. I literally took it at face value that we couldn't fix Jager, so Azure just handled those details in the background. With the present situation, I kind of wish that I had been correct.
>>
>>37149400
>without taking their character's CHA score
But Azure has, our CHA score is probably in the toilet.

“So this is damned if I do or don’t decision right? If I go out there she gets mad, if I stay here you look down on me in solemn judgment to make me feel bad.” You accuse.

Asmodeus crosses her arms and looks annoyed. “I am not your judge jury and executioner. What have I done to make you think I would begrudge you for making use of your freedom of choice? You could kill her and, while slightly disappointed I wouldn’t get to see her again, I would not fault you.” She explains.

“That’s—“ You start. No, she would probably totally do that. “Okay, you would probably totally do that. Sorry.”

“Well, as long as you know.” She smiles.

You listen to the voices and most of them seem to say follow her? Maybe? “Asmodeus! Keep Sin-Fin less than totally depressed! Listen to Susan, he’s in charge of operation keep Sin-Fin from just, seriously man, cheer the fuck up.”

“Well, I will certainly try my best.” She says.

You sonido out of the ice cream place, and look around the street. It isn’t that hard to find her even though her outfit is camouflaged so she might want to consider a refund of some kind. You weave through the people in the street and find her trying to find a less crowded area of the city to sonido in. “jager! Hey Jager! Come on, wait! I—Oi, mind your hands there grabby man.” We killed that dude. “Jager hello!” You catch up because you have more *s in speed.

“I’m going back home.” She says.

“Didn’t you like the ice cream? It was a bit cold I realize, but ice cream does that, it is generally pretty cold unless it is soup. Was it because Asmodeus was singing off key from me? I make her do that because otherwise her voice will break just everyone.” You say. “Just talk!”

You look around as she hiccups and starts wiping her face. Do—should we kill them all? “No, that doesn’t really seem to be working.” You say. Offer her a magical girl contract? “What? Why would that do anything?” I don’t know!

“No one was laughing at you! Look, hey, what people would laugh huh? Sin-Fin? She doesn’t know about these sorts of things and Plantbro is, er,” I got nothing on this one, “therapeutic?” You wonder. Asmodeus sort of showed up too. “Asmodeus isn’t people.” She might be people. “She wouldn’t laugh though!”

You look away as you figure out just what is going on in your brain parts. Well she said she didn’t want to make a spectacle of it all, maybe Azzy showing up made it worse? “Like she doesn’t want to air her dirty laundry in public, and thinks it’s bad if you do?” You wonder. Yeah, maybe something like that. “And now she is crying.” Hurt people do that. “What do we do?” You wonder.

You look back at Jager, then wrap your arms in an awkward hug, that makes you all wiggly and weird. Like, how do people do this? Sometimes you don’t get hugs. “It’s okay?” You offer looking around at the people and then cranking up your cloaking because she doesn’t like shows! We remember! “If, look, hey. Sorry? I don’t quite know what to do here. You are sad, you have been sad for a while, and I am not particularly fond of the idea. I want to not have you be sad, or at least let me be with you so you won’t be as sad.”

She just sort of cries, and I am not fluent in crying girl. “You are supposed to be fluent in everything.” You say then smile. “Ah, no, just can’t understand you, you have to speak up!” You say.

Most people who cry around you are about to get super dead. It takes a while, and your uncomfortable levels are at the top at this point, but finally she manages to stop. She pushes you away, and says in a still strained voice. “I’m going home.” Then leaves.

You look around as she makes her way to the shrine. Do we—should we go after her?

>>37150591

Not the same anon, but we've had other things on out plate. We had to go fight off Mendel to make sure she wasn't just going to sweep back in and continuing making everything worse. >>
She sort of walks away and you walk after her with your hands in your pockets. Never liked hands in the pockets, always made me think people would accuse me of stealing stuff. You agree that is sound reasoning as you keep an even distance and sort of look around the neighborhood. “You don’t have to follow me.” Jager says. “Not like I am going to do anything.”

“I’m not following you, just sort of walking in the same direction.” You reply.

She glances back at you, then continues on her way. You pick up a particularly good whacking stick, and swing it around a bit while keeping your eye on Jager. She makes it to the stairs in front of the shrine, then pauses for a few seconds. She looks up the stairs, then continues past the shrine. You pass by that van as you follow her, and that savory smell, oh man this is a good place. “Oh? What do they have?” You wonder. This is where I got that waffle sandwich. “They play god.” You conclude.

You continue walking after Jager and she takes streets unfamiliar to you, streets you have probably flew over countless times during your adventures. She makes a few twists and turns until she moves off the main road through some trees. You go in after her and after a few meters come to a small patch of grass, a bench, and a somewhat steep cliff overlooking part of the town. Jager leans on the railing and looks over the town. You decide to walk up to the guard rail and lean on it as well. This town looks stupid, your feet are cold, you wish you were home watching Doctor Who.

“Sorry for making a scene.” Jager finally says.

Actually Risa made the scene. What with the singing.

“Hm? It’s fine.” You say as you glare at your brain part.

You both stand around, and Jager shuffles a little. “Just haven’t been doing too well for a while now, and it all sort of came out. Ah, I feel better after a cry, so you don’t have to worry about it.”

“I see.” You say looking over the city.

I don’t believe her.

“Seriously, it’s all fine now Risa. Everything is fine.” She explains.

>We had to go fight off Mendel to make sure she wasn't just going to sweep back in and continuing making everything worse
Oh, is that so?

We sort of had a had a thread after POV switch to Caede where we pussyfooted around the Nazi issue and started with paranoia, culminating in suspicions that Jaeger had a backdoor left in her head when she was hiding that she knew about the Nazi. That was the best time to start.
>>
>>37150880
>[] Ask her something (What?)
If she's still leaning on the railing, lean on with her. Maybe rest your head on her shoulder.

Everything isn't fine, but it will be. We'll get through this, I'll help you.

> What have you been working on?
> I can totally help on the inventory acquisitions, you know?
>>
>>37150933

We need someone to help us help her. Without any empathy or stuff like that, we'll just be trying to plug a hole in a dam with a band-aid.
>>
>>37150880
I'm a failure of a social being.

[x] Stop it, Jaeger. Just stop it. This is how the Nazi-ing started, cooping up your feelings and saying that this and that has to be done for the good of the mission. Please don't do this to yourself.

Because the last time this happened, we got Destruction Jaeger.

I reposted once, and deleted the previous reply. I like this one better. Also, that accusation is offensive, so calm your shit. Last time we got Destruction there was a host of differing complications.

Hey HQR, whose voice do you read Risa's lines in?
>>
>>37151230

I don't read them in any voice, if that makes sense? I just kinda imagine them doing the stuff from reading the text.
>>
>>37151220

It also required Azure shooting himself in the foot a few times and the stakes actually being high.
>>
>>37151201
>>37151201
I was referring to samefagging, not the difference in opinions.

I just don't want samefagging at all, thanks. If we're going to fail, may as well be on majority merits, even if majority is idiotic shit that gave us Ryouichi.
>>
>>37151251
if only they had established an agreed upon definition of agency.

agency is not the feeling you get when you feel your dick big and stronk
>>
>>37150933
Maybe this works?
>>
>>37151300

It kind of is, to a certain extent. Agency is the ability to express influence or have power over your surroundings. The anons at the time, were expressing a general disatisfaction with not being able to fight against or influence any major power in the world as it stood.

This was a correct usage of the word, but coincided with the buzzword used in tabletop gaming hobbies which defines the ability to make decisions, for good or for ill. Azure was, at the time, allowing us to make any decision we wanted, despite what some players felt (since speed usually equals power and they assumed running wasn't an option).

People argued about semantics until they were blue in the face, getting no one anywhere.

“Do you want to talk about it?” You ask.

“No.” She replies.

You nod. “Should you talk about it?”

“Maybe.” She grumbles.

“You can tell me stuff. I know I am bad at it, but I want you to feel better. Or you can just sort of tell me if you want to cry, I am good for people to cry around. Everything may not be okay, but it will be okay. Or at least better.” You say.

“Maybe.” Jager says.

You slide up close to her and look her over. You are not too sure quite what sort of feeling she has because this emotional connection stuff is hard, and your feet hurt. You reach a hand over and tentatively touch her hand. You pet it a little, then rest your hand on hers for a few moments. She lifts her hand, and you hold your hand in yours, then carefully intertwine your fingers. You shuffle closer and pull her arm in so your shoulder is against her side while still holding her hand, then rest your head on her shoulder. You rest your hand on her bicep too because, man, these feel nice. She feels nice. Your feet don't hurt now. She smells good. You're warm

Your brain partially explodes.

Hollow Quest Redux 120 end.

I am feeling pretty tired so let’s end it here. Will be around for comments, questions, concerns, accusations, demands for the new OP I got next thread, etc. for a little bit.

Yay! Good things happened.. sort of!

Thanks for running Azure.

So... Risa getting empathy or humanity.. did this help? Or as some one else said do we need to go on some sort of magical quest?

thanks for running. and weathering another shitstorm. the scrutiny Jager and Jager related activities must make it difficult.

You still having sleep trouble? My mom and a friend of mine use/used melatonin to help get to sleep. Its an over the counter supplement. take em 30 mins before bed.

Dom would have been a poor choice to eat ice cream off of. His radiating glory would melt it all and they'd have to lick it off his abs and Jager would have to wait till everyone left the room because she is afraid of the Jagers in the other people's heads.

Does Luci like Devil's food cake or is it too on the nose for him?

and cowgirl Risa would have two sets of chaps. one assless for formal occasions and one that just covers her ass because symmetry.
