"Nice to meet you." You say, trying to not sound too sarcastic. "To what I owe the pleasure?"

The Abyssal's face bends in a wicked grin. "Oh, I'm mostly just here because I'm curious about the Titan."

Did she just-

Millian and Tia turn to you, both looking quite confused.

"...Titan?" The Lunar asks. You see her frowning, the word leaving an unpleasant taste in her mouth. Then, she falls silent, bringing her hand to the forehead. Thinking. "...Why..."

You can't help but remember your vision. What you saw within the Titan. How your previous incarnation died.

And Amata's request. No one must know about the Titan.

You had the feeling that not even the other Abyssals working for the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine knew, or, if they knew, they weren't willing to talk about it opening. Then why does Speaker for the Dead...?

"...Why does it sound familiar?" Tia lifts her head, staring straight into your eyes. You see confusion, puzzlement. Discomfort. Maybe anger.

"...My oh my." The Abyssal giggles. "You don't know anything? What you're fighting for? What this war is all about?" She approaches the side of your cart with light steps, on Tia's side. "Amata is using you, you know. And without even telling you the truth..."

>Attack her.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She was in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.
You just discovered the reason everyone seems to be so interested in Tianna: an enormous magical fortress lies buried underground, a relic of the First Age with enough firepower to destroy anything...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

You frown and lean in, getting between her and Tia.

"...What game are you playing, Speaker?" You ask her, a hint of a threat behind your words, just enough to let her know she should pick her next words with exceptional care.

"I'm actually on your side in this, you know." She replies, apparently unimpressed, or maybe missing your subtext entirely. "Even though she's a mere Dragon-Blooded, that woman is using you. She persuaded you to help her protect the Titan... who knows what she plans to do with it? She keeps secrets. She lies and cheats and manipulates and withholds information from those who trust her."

"Wait." Tia interrupts you both. "...I, I remember of a place called... the Titan. I... I don't remember where I heard about it..."

"Would you like to know more about it?" The abyssal grins. "Because it looks like your dear Maka doesn't want you to know. She's been lying to you. She knows of the Titan, the place of your memories. And she's kept it a secret from you."

Tia turns to you, confused. Conflicted. "...Is that true?"

You feel like you've already seen that exact face once. On the other side of a gun pointed at you. And after that, darkness.

You bite your lower lip. You... You're really cornered up here. No other choice.

"It's true." You sigh. "Sorry. Amata made me swear to keep it a secret."

Tia doesn't look too happy to hear that, but stays silent.

"Oh. Wow." Speaker smiles. "Did you really need an Abyssal to butt into your happy married couple life to start being truthful with each other? That does not sound like a healthy way to handle a relationship."

"Shut. Up." You hiss at her.

"Wait." Millian, still looking a bit shocked, still manages to round up enough courage to ask a pressing question. "...What IS this "Titan" thing?"

Tia closes her eyes. ...Is she crying? Or just trying to remember? Or trying to NOT remember?

"...That knife... yes..." you hear her muttering under her breath.

Speaker exchanges a glance with you and does a little shrug.

We kept denying her about the memories and our attitude from daydreaming. We did not tell her about those not because of the promise but because of the pressure it may cause on Tia. Dude. We did tell her about this:

' "...I recently remembered something. From a previous life. A distant life. From the First Age."

Tia sits next to you on the table, silently, giving you her entire attention.

You tell her the vision you had in the Titan, without mentioning the titan itself or the circumstances. You keep details vague. She follows everything you say with utmost care.

"What do you think of this?" You ask her, in the end.

"A bad dream." She dismisses it.

"It felt really... really real."

"A bad dream." She repeats.

With some hesitation, you hand the silver statuette to Tia, depositing it in her palms.

She stares at it. Without a word between the two of you, her fingers go to the hidden switch and release the blade with a loud CLACK.

"...You remember this?" You ask her.

She frowns. "No." She locks the blade back closed, and turns the thing in her hands a couple of times, lost in thought. You have no idea what she's thinking right now, but her face has gotten surly and worried. She's staring at the small figurine with something close to anger. '

A few seconds of silence pass.

Tia lifts her eyes to meet yours. They're red and bloodshot. "...That knife statuette... you found the Titan? Amata... knows?"

She shivers.

You pull her to you and hug her tight. She's shaking.

"It hurts." She mumbles.

"It's all right." You whisper back to her. "It's all in the past. It's a dream for us. We are not those people. And we'll never be."

"One can certainly hope so." Speaker suggests, hopping on the horse pulling your cart and sitting on its back. The beast seems quite calm, or even to not notice her at all.

You ignore her for now, turning to Millian. "...I'm sorry, I can't tell you now. It's something very dangerous. And I promised to Amata that I wouldn't tell anyone."

"You... you can't even... tell me?" Tia stammers, still in shock.

[Social + Zenith = 3 8 2 7 10 3 10 5 1 = 6 successes]

"...Do you want to know?" You ask her.

You feel her spasms calming down. "...No. I... I don't. I don't want to know. I don't want to see. I don't want to remember."

You glare back at Speaker for the Dead.

You have to admit it, she reduced Tia, one of the most powerful combat monsters of an Exalted you know of, to a quivering mess with just a few words.

You'd like to think that you are mentally stronger and healthier than Tia, but the Abyssal's smug smile tells you that she isn't done.

"...Who are you, and what do you want?" You ask her.

She bows. "I am Speaker for the Dead, Moonshadow Deathknight for the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine. And... well, first of all I wanted to make sure you weren't lying to poor Tia here. You monster. You should be ashamed of yourself, keeping your loved one in the dark, about something so important, for so long."

You barely restrain your desire to slug her in the face and grit your teeth.

"...And then, I was just wondering if you had any idea of what was at stake here. What the Titan can DO." She smiles. "Because you know, right? What the Titan can do. I'm actually asking. I have no idea."

"...Ask away. But I can't promise I'll actually answer you." You reply, letting go of Tia's cooldown hug. She seems to be better now.

"Sure. After all... questions are a lot more important than answers." The Abyssal replies, cryptically.

"Then ask those damn questions. Let's see what you can come up with."

"Alright. Hypothetical scenario. Let's say the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine wants the Titan." She starts.

"Hypothetical, huh." You reply, sarcastic.

"Totally hypothetical." She nods, super serious. "Why wouldn't you let her have it."

Speaking of the Titan though, personally I don't want to use it for ourselves, at least not like for Maka's personal agenda or our circle's plans. UCS said he would leave it up to us and I think it should be something that should only be used if Creation was in danger or something.

"Because even just activating that thing is going to make everything above it, including Tianna and Pearl, crumble to pieces." You explain with a groan.

"Oh. You're well-informed."

"And because she's going to use it to do who knows what damage in the world of the living." You add.

"Eh." She shrugs, unconvinced. "That's not her plan. But you're probably not going to believe me if I told you that she doesn't intend to use it to hurt anyone in Creation."

"She's a DEATHLORD."

"Death is a natural part of life. It isn't necessarily a bad thing. All things must come to an end after all." She explains. "But here's my second question: Still hypothetically speaking: assume we secured the surface so that the Titan could be activated without damage to Tianna or Pearl. Assume the Tyrant wouldn't hurt anyone in Creation with the Titan. Let's even just... alright. Let's say that you get to veto the Tyrant's plans on how to use the Titan." She explains calmly. "You can stay on it. You can drive it, if drive is even the right word. Pilot? Command? Whatever. The Tyrant just tells you where she'd like you to point it. You don't have to do it if you don't want to."

She nods.

"If I could trust you? IF? Maybe. MAYBE. It's a big maybe. But even the fact that I'm heading for your boss, to speak with her, means I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. But, right now? Hell no."

Actually getting a shard with abyssal, deathlord and neverborn interference, trapping it when shards are built to roam free, then taking it to Lytek in Heaven with 50 Sidereal Kung-Fu teacup ninja assassins trying to stop/kill you...

Right, crazy.

>>37158816
The background description mentions they can tap into the connection and talk to them yeah.
>>
"...I see." You reply. "Please step aside."

She does so. "Are you still going to meet the Tyrant?"

You nod. "I think you're wrong. I believe myself to be ready to meet her."

"You're not, not now." She replies. "But maybe you will be after meeting all of us. Each of us has a message for you."

"I sure hope you do because up to now you're not making much sense." You reply, snapping the reins and sending the horse trotting down the road.

Some time passes. The shadow you're heading towards grows taller and thicker.

"I'm confused." Tia proclaims, as if she's been doing some thinking on her own in the meanwhile.

"You're not the only one." Millian notes.

"Don't ask me." Reken adds, though she seems considerably less troubled.

"Voices... that hear back. Voices that everyone hears. Voices..." You mumble. "Hey, Tia?"

"Yes?"

"Do you ever hear voices?"

"All the time."

"...Maybe it was a mistake to ask you, but go on. What do they say?"

"Sometimes they tell me to build ramps made of corpses. Sometimes they tell me to rip your clothes and do unspeakable things to your body. Sometimes they tell me it's time for lunch or dinner. Sometimes they tell me to open people's skulls and use their insides as decoration. ...Sometimes they tell me... other... things."

"...Tia, we call those "thoughts", you know." You sigh.

"Ever since Ma Ha Suchi did the thing to me I'm no longer very sure of how they work."

"What thing?"

"The... thing." She makes a vague gesture. "I don't know. I didn't see it from the outside. I don't remember much from before it."

You turn to Millian. "What about you?"

"When she said everyone, did she mean every Exalted, or literally everyone?" She mumbles.

"...I have the feeling she meant the former, but I'm not absolutely sure."

Maybe the Tyrant wanted to see how we dealt with crazy?

Though, I doubt it.

We should really do a bit of soul exploring to see if there is trully some part where the Sun doesn't reach.
>>
>>37158802
So I can play a demented Solar with whispers 5 who flip flops between being a scourge to creation and a scarily efficient, yet completly mad hero? finally something that is in character for me!

Opportunity costs anon.

There isn't much time to do more that one thing. So make it count. Don't think in terms of 'Can't hurt', think in terms of 'We do this or we're screwed.' Or at least get some benefit out of the action.

Ask Reken if she's noticed anything from the other Abyssals, two out of the five we know about has mentioned them, I'm not sure about Phoenix, but it's not like we've ever had time to sit down and chat. We need to make a note to ask the rest if they don't bring it up themselves.
>>
>>37159187
Good point, but 'more coherent/less crazy' is a problem.

So far we have a nutcase gothic maid, an MIA rouge abyssal wannabe, an even nuttier funeral director and a amnesiac sailor.

So we're 1/4 on the less crazy front. I wonder what their twilight will be like.
>>
>>37159297
While we are at it, did we even get all of heir castes or am i really that forgetful?

Phoenix hasn't been terribly crazy, at least not too our face.

>>

>>
>>37159467

Well i don't expect our Solar team to be much better.

A hot blooded idiot, his nympho sister, a no social skills inventor, (insert night caste here) and Mikahil.

We're batting 60% at best. I just expect the dark side guys to be crazier.
>>
>>37159566
Would having Reken in our team increase or decrease the crazy percentage?
>>
>>37159617
No
>>
Rolled 8 (1d10)

>>37159617
He was talking specifically about the Solars.

I actually don't want Reken on our side, I like her I mean, but I don't think she'd be willing to leave the Abyssals to join us.

Irene is basically the same as Valeriana, or the other way around I guess since we've known Irene longer.

"...Millian, what's your opinion?" You ask the little maid.

"...I have no idea. It's a bit like... Nevermind. It's silly-"

"No, I want to hear. No matter how silly you think it sounds." You press her on.

"...It's like... You probably never had that problem, but you know when you want to tell to a boy you like him but you're too shy to tell him straightforwardly? So you ask your friends, you dance around the issue..."

"...You mean all this is an elaborate way of asking me out to a date?"

Tia stifles a giggle.

"...Like I said, it's silly. Ignore it." Millian sinks into the cart, defeated.

You sigh and turn to Rakan. "You?"

"Some of the creatures living in the Underworld can feel the Whispers."

You lift an eyebrow. "Whispers?"

"...At the center of the Underworld lie the Neverborn. They're the first ghosts. The first things to ever die, the souls of the Titans that forged the universe. Their voices... some can hear them, in their minds, like a worm gnawing."

You close your eyes. You see...

...a giant beyond all giants, a shape vast enough to blot out the cosmos. It is vast enough that no eye can embrace it, no mind can comprehend it. No life is long enough to speak the full length of its name. The breadth of its thirteen arms can strangle past, present and future. Worlds dance and die on the tip of its fingers, and its breath is the fire at the end of all things.

You exchange a glance with Tia and both of you smile and nod. "...Oh, yes. I remember them." "I remember killing them."

Reken nearly swallows her own tongue when you say that.

"It wasn't really us." "Not really, no."

After a bit, she regains her composure. "...Do you think she was talking about these Whispers?"

"...I doubt she was. You... don't look like someone who hears Whispers."

"...Do you hear Whispers?" Tia asks her.

"Sometimes." She looks away. "I don't want to talk about it."

With that, the conversation grinds to an uneasy halt.

(cont.)
>>
>>37159687
Technically, his 'crash the universe's economy' plan is only the first part of a plan to build a new economy with magical money that will serve as a passive anti-chaos-defense-grid.
>>
>>37159687
It's a crazy plan, but the person coming up with it is at least rational enough to come up with A plan.

Karas solves problems by 1. Sword-ing it or 2. Sword 2: Sword harder.

Maka is /tg/.

Val makes stuff and doesn't think about the consequences.

At the very least, Mikahil is using his brain. That and using TTTH to snap Tia out of it back during the lintha fight was a sane, rational and in fact optimal move.
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

>>37159746
That too, but he also at least wants to help shrink the wealth gap that exist in creation, make the poor places less poor, bring everyone into the fold via trading and whatnot.
>>
You ride on. Best not to waste time or focus on them right now.

The black shape in the distance takes a form beyond the vague feeling of shadowy unease: a massive, fortress-like yet ship-like structure of black steel and...

...yes, you remember that. That moment when you Exalted. You were staring that monstrosity down.

From here, this far, you can almost appreciate its design and the skill it must have taken to master the magic of Essence to such an extent to allow it to float in the air. But you have no doubt that, once you get closer, you will still find it downright unsettling.

And yet, as you ride further ahead, you see a smaller shadow standing in your way. As you approach it, you see it more clearly: a young man, a black bandage over one eye, cloaked in a black coat. He and Reken exchange glances for a moment.

You bring the horse to a halt. "...Another of the Tyrant's Deathknights, I presume?"

The young man brushes his rebellious hair back with a swift gesture, and brings both hands on the hilt of his swords. "Baron of the Final Tide." A black castemark flashes on his forehead, a hollow circle with eight rays around it.

"And you're not going to let me through?"

The swords slide free of the scabbards with the hissing sound of metal on metal.

"I don't want to fight you, Baron." You tell him, annoyed.

He lifts one sword, its tip pointing at you. Tia shuffles in her seat, getting in a position where she's ready to spring and leap between you and him at any time. You feel her body tensing up with razor-sharp focus. "I'm not leaving you a choice." He replies.

"You're not going to touch Maka." Tia calmly states.

"Out of the way. I want to fight her. Not you."

You see Baron subtly shifting his stance. "Tell her to stand down."

You take a deep breath. "Even if I did... I don't think she'd listen to me."

"I wouldn't." Tia proclaims, slowly stepping out of the cart and walking at a leisurely pace towards the Dusk.

He lowers his swords for a moment. He doesn't seem afraid of Tia, but...

"Not even if I challenge you to a duel, Maka? I want to fight you. You and no one else. There is something I need to see for myself."

"Did the Tyrant set you up to this?"

"Indeed." He replies, shouldering both blades. "What do you say? If you agree... in exchange I will tell you something you'd want to know."

"...Don't be such a mom, Tia." You groan. "We're bound to hurt each other at least a bit-"

"...Pretty underwhelming." Millian admits.

Tia looks aside.

"...It's okay, I'm sure it sounded better in your head." Baron pats her shoulder.

She nods and walks back to the cart, feeling defeated.

You leap down, give her a high five as you swap places with her on the battlefield, and begin to focus your breathing and Essence flow to activate your combat powers. You can see he's doing the same, as his castemark glows blacker and blacker and sparks of negative light dance on his blades.

Need this as a reaction image, but Maka's tits are in the way.

>>Mastery of Small Manners (1 Ess, you learn the short-term objectives of people in the scene. Gives straightforward ideas, but does not reveal complex plans)
I'll second that vote

let's safe it for now

That's a lot of stuff
>>
>>37161042
The problem is people like this
>>37161017
and this
>>37161082
And the general restless nature of people to spend XP means this very thread was the single best opportunity to pick up Social 5.

But ECSJ, a charm i vehemently disagree with getting at all, sunk that plan.
>>
>>37161140
It hasn't, we're at 18 now, we can be at 20 within one threat or once i remember the artist which's commisions count doubble the points
>>
>>37160889
I vote for mastery of small manners

Thanks it was fun. I fixed some issues with the bath house pic I did a year ago. http://imgur.com/uxCymJf (nsfw)

We're at 13, not 18.

ECSJ purchase.

A new nintendo game about cute girls doing cute things.

Aka, squidgirl lolis shooting each other with ink and exploding.
>>
>>37161253
11 leftover from last time + 3 this time + 4 from art = 18
That's assuming all the art people are going for XP
>>
>>37161253
Haven't we been at 11 at the start of the session???
>>
>>37161312
That's what i meant, so tell me the name of EFs friend so i can go and make him take my damn money
>>
>>37161342
I've asked him once, he didn't reply me. Been a couple of months.

He's kinda flaky though, like really flaky, not a bad guy, just you know, bad at that sorta thing.
>>
>>37161317
+3 from this session

>>37161312
>assuming

Until EF makes a statement, i assume the art is NOT converted to XP. It's silly to assume anything about how people spend their...whatever you call it.
>>
>>37160889
I'm going to vote for Adamant Skin Technique. Nothing hurts us for 2 full rounds. Doesn't matter what kind of blade or essence cannon of sorcery the enemy employs, NOTHING hurts us. That's more than long enough to get in close, disarm them, and get them in a grapple no matter how much they try to stab us.
>>
>>37160903
The recolor is for XP, if it's worth anything at all actually.
>>
>>37161373
But most of the time XP is what they use it for, so it's not an unreasonable assumption
>>
>>37161408
>But most of the time XP is what they use it for
At least half of the time it's not.
>>
>>37161421
It is an unreasonable assumption.
>>
>>37160889

Save it for now
>>
>>37160889

Save for Soc 5. I would have opposed getting ECSJ more if I knew we would have gotten it. I thought the votes were split in the middle last time?

>"Did you ever hear voices in your head?"
Anyone else getting the feeling they're talking about the Great Curse, that should be something Tyrant knows right?

She's a Deathlord after all.
>>
>>37161780
but the curse isn't really a voice in your head. It's your worst character trait, exagerated
>>
I'd really like to know what EF thinks about scotch, single malt and whisky in general
>>37161780
Howdy, that knowledge alone would make us target of countless other beings who would want that to stay a secret... just imagine what would happen to the siddies, or if lady secret decides it's not the appointed time to be revealed, HAH. no i guess not.
>>
For now you're at 14 XP, the art hasn't been cashed in yet.
>>
>>37161938
I'd like to cash in the color of Rei's for XP.
>>
>>37161223
Hey toorops did you nuke your tumblrs?

I haven't been able to get to them lately.

Awesome, thanks anon.
>>
So, how much is needed for Social 5, again?
>>
>>37163669
20XP, it's our current score times five.
