You fly through the galaxies with your companions. This morning was a relatively rough start. To think that you… ugh, one the hand they are all nice girls but on the other hand you cannot let anybody else know what happened! Sleeping so close to another girl, and letting even Clarissa curl up so tightly against you was a trial of endurance! If Nodell or Sinestro or even Robin knew what happened, they would flip sideways and create renewable energy!

Captain Nemo himself would be amazed!

Regardless, your companions for the day are Cherry, Chaselon, Clarissa, Red Tornado, and yourself. Cherry came to you with the request for aiding the Red Lanterns against Legion, who apparently has deposed their so-called leader Atrocitus. Anything will do in destroying any advantage Legion has over the Corps, even if it means assisting an enemy of the Green Lanterns.

Finally, you all stop at the edge of a yellow nebula. Cherry turns to you. “This is the very edge of Red Lantern space.”

Clarissa looks around. “Doesn’t look very impressive.”

“We control many planets and systems,” says Cherry. “But I agree, it’s not very impressive.” She turns to you in particular. “Is there anything you want to do before we enter this space?”

> “I think it should just be me and Cherry on this.”

You cross your arms. “I think we should exercise a bit of caution here. It should just be me and Cherry going into the Red Lantern territories.” Clarissa, Chaselon, and Red Tornado don’t look very happy at that. “Only for a time, we will call you when we need help.”

Cherry nods. “I agree. Green Lanterns are not very welcome in Red Lantern territory, and since I’m in exile technically, it may raise tensions between our Corps if more than one of you crosses into our territory. We are here to mend things between the Red Lanterns and the Green Lanterns, not to start a war.”

“Fine.” Clarissa throws her arms in the air, defeated. “Jeez. We’ll wait for you by this nebula. I’ll send Chaselon out for some extra muscle though. If you guys do need our help, just call us.”

“Alright!” You both nod, then you and Cherry start flying off.

“Good luck, GL!” yells Red Tornado after you.

“The odds may not be in your favor but I believe you will not need to know the odds!” says Chaselons.

That’s very reassuring, Chaselon.

You speed through the stars. “Where are we headed?” you ask.

“The home of the Red Lanterns. The most likely place we will find Legion and his cronies,” she says. She turns to you, narrowing her eyes. “Green Lantern, I wanted to ask you a question.” You nod, allowing her to continue. “Do you honestly believe in redemption?”

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of hour trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,” you quote. “For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body!” You smile at Cherry. “Redemption is there.”

She grunts, looking ahead. “So how is your Father?” You blink. Oh…

You shake your head. “I don’t know, Cherry. I haven’t had time to check on him. Why do you ask?”

She grunts again. “To this day, I cannot figure out your father. Coward, Nazi collaborator, and yet he shelters Jews under the nose of the Gestapo. Your father is either the most complex man I’ve ever met or life is just fond of making him suffer.”

You nod. “My father can be a good man, I know it. He just needs a good girl to guide him along the way.”

“Why not you?” asks Cherry.

You shake your head at that. “I’m too busy.” Truth be told, you would like to see your father redeemed in your eyes. He was never a man of malice, just a coward. There’s potential for him to be a hero, if he isn’t already. You know that now, and hopefully you may see him again soon. You just wish it would be in good circumstances.

Your ring beeps.

> WARNING: MANHUNTER FORCES DETECTED.

“Manhunters,” you say.

“They must be patrolling the area,” says Cherry. “If they catch us, they will likely retreat and inform others rather than risk an engagement.”

> “We’ll stick together. We’ll have a better chance of survival together.”

“If the Manhunters catch us, we’ll have a better chance of survival if we stick together. So let’s do that. Oui?” She nods, in agreement. “Very good. Though, you can still fight, right?’

She shakes her head. “Unfortunately, the last of my energy is being kept into maintaining flight and my protective aura. If you got me a Red Lantern power battery, then I could help you. However, I’m afraid you must escort me.”

You nod at that. That’s fine, escorting an angry Red Lantern into hostile territory, letting her rely on you. Okay, it’s not as fine when you say it like that. But Goddamn it, you will not let her down. You are a Green Lantern, and Green Lanterns know only justice and victory! You take her hand and then start pulling her through the stars. “Come on, Cherry! We must continue on at stealthy pace!”

And so you do.

You keep flying through the nebulas and hiding behind stray asteroids as the Manhunters patrol the area. Funny, in this territory, you would’ve expected Red Lanterns at least. However, you can’t afford a fight now. You’re the only one with any actual power to fight. Cherry is just driving by with a gallon of fuel so to speak.

But finally, you sight it. The wicked red planet of Ysmault. You can see Manhunter ships orbit around it, and the robots and automaton creations fly to and fro the surface. It appears they’re using materials from the planet itself to create more Manhunters.

Great.

You and Cherry peek your eyes over the lip of the crater of the asteroid you hide on. “Alright, how do you want to approach?”

“We will do as Odysseus did in the Illiad. We will find our Trojan Horse, then we will use cunning and trickery to march our way in without being molested.” You smile at her. “Sound good?”

Cherry tilts her head. “What?”

“Do you not know the Illiad?” you ask. She shakes her head. “The Odyssey? How about the Telegony?” She shakes her head again and again, looking very confused and somewhat weirded out by you. Ugh, what a plebian. Fine, you will keep your academic references to yourself. You look around, then see two Manhunters floating by your asteroid.

Perfect!

You quickly snatch them up in an energy net, then pull them in before they can react. You and Cherry slice them up and bash apart their brains before they can call for help. Once you empty out your suits, you have two perfect Trojan horses! You slip in, then pull the Manhunter head over your own. Snug fit! Kind of hot though. “Cherry, how are you?”

“I can’t see a thing!” she says. You grab her head, then turn it the right way around. “Oh, there we go.”

“Right. Follow my lead.” You and her float out, now disguised as a pair of Manhunters, towards the surface of Ysmault.

However, a patrol of other Manhunters floats up in front of you. :: HALT! :: You stop before them. :: IDENTIFY YOURSELVES. ::

The Manhunters turn their heads to each other, then back at you. :: STATE YOUR SECURITY CODE. ::

“OUI- I MEAN. AFFIRMATIVE. ERRR… SIC SEMPER-“ You cough loudly, covering your lack of knowledge of an actual security code or what that phrase actually ends with. “THAT IS THE CODE.”

The Manhunters stare at you. :: IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR INTERNAL MICROPHONE? ::

“… AFFIRMATIVE. WE WERE SEEKING OUT A REPAIR STATION.”

He points down to the planet. :: REPORT TO CAMP FOUR. ::

You nod. “THANK YOU MY FELLOW AUTOMATONS. NO ONE ESCAPES THE MANHUNTERS!” You declare as you and Cherry begin floating down.

“Alright, so what will the plan be when we find Atrocitus?” asks Cherry.

“Depends on if we find him. Our first priority should be find to Legion.” You land on the cracked, molten surface of Ysmault. It’s as if the planet is one giant volcano of some kind. Evil, desolate, a wasteland! “However, are there any allies we can rely on here?”

Cherry groans. “It would mean having to work with Zilius Zox again, but he is the only other Red Lantern I know that I can trust with this. And if we can find him, we may be able to rally other Red Lanterns to our cause.”

“We find Zox, and hopefully he will have a power battery for you and any other allies he can muster. Come on!” Cherry leads you on through the volcanic, ashy wastelands of Ysmault. A planet like this would obviously escape the notice of the Guardians since it seems inhospitable to life. But you suppose life finds a way somehow. Red Lanterns must make their home here to escape the notice of passing travelers and Green Lanterns who overlook it as nothing more than a planet being born.

You keep flying, moving past patrols of Manhunters. You see Red Lanterns on the surface, sharpening their skill with the red power ring by sparring with each other. They do so in such a messy, ferocious, and brutal manner that you would think they would eat each other if given the chance. One even vomits pure plasma down another’s throat.

Ugh, that’s disgusting!

Finally though, you see the giant floating head with stumpy arms and legs in bondage. “I’ll have you know! I am Atrocitus’ most favored Red Lantern!” They start carting him away. “You can’t do this to me!”

Cherry narrows her eyes beneath the Manhunter disguise. “We should help him.”

Sapphire shows that there's a lot of power to be had in the love spectrum, but little control.

You bring down a giant can opener to them. They look up at it, confused, then you snatch them up with a giant ghostly hand. With another hand, you jab one Manhunter into the mechanism, then start carving him open. Sparks shoot and fly as you tear open his hull, and once he’s completely shred, you throw him away. The others try to fight and struggle, but one by one they are opened like cans of beans.

Zox looks on from behind a crater. “Whoa.”

Cherry drops down as soon as the last one is destroyed. She busts out of her Manhunter suit then smashes it to pieces. “Zox!” yells Cherry. Zox starts floating away immediately. “Zox! Get back here!”

“You’re not the boss of me!” shouts Zox. “See ya later!” You grab him with one of your hands, then drag him by the leg towards the both of you. “Ah! Let me go!” Cherry jabs her finger at Zox’s eye. “Ow!”

“We need your help, Zox. Do you have any idea where we might find Atrocitus, or more Red Lanterns willing to fight the Manhunters?” asks Cherry. You can tell she’s not relishing having to rely on Zox for help.

“Ah, zog off!” he yells. “I haven’t seen Atrocitus, and no Red Lantern is ballsy enough to go up against Legion!”

“Do you have a spare power battery for Cherry?” you ask. He grumbles, then spits it out of his mouth. It rolls up to Cherry’s leg, covered in green spittle and bile and red plasma. Cherry groans, picking it up reluctantly. “Look, where’s Legion?”

“At Atrocitus’ palace,” says Zox. You let go of him, and let him float of his own accord. “But it is heavily guarded, no one goes in or out!”

“Except us,” says Cherry.

They both nod, alright. Cherry holds up the power battery, then presses her ring to it. You can see the Red energy skip from the battery and into her ring, sparkling and crackling with fiery red power.

With blood and rage of crimson red,
We fill mens' souls with darkest dread,
And twist your minds to pain and hate.

The alarms and the increased number of Manhunters flying around and scanning the areas means Legion is already fully aware there’s some intruder on his planet.

You poke your heads above a few rocks to see the Red Lantern palace, a great towering pyramid, surrounded by five towers in the shape of a five pointed star around it. A great red beam of light projects from the tip of the pyramid, quite possibly from their version of a central power battery. Hundreds of Manhunters guard the area, if not thousands of them.

“Legion should be there!” says Zox. “And if he’s there, perhaps he has our Lord Atrocitus!”

“What do you think, Green Lantern, same strategy?”

You three float up again to the Manhunter garrison. Zox had some trouble fitting into a Manhunter suit, being a giant floating head and all, but you managed to stuff him inside. Though at a minute, he might explode and burst out of the suit so you want to get in there fast and quickly. “Follow my lead,” you say.

You float up to the lead Manhunter, plated with gold armor. :: HALT. IDENTIFY YOURSELVES. ::

> “Can we truly say we are Manhunters? Or are we slaves?”

You hold out your arms in robotic fashion. “CAN WE TRULY SAY WE ARE MANHUNTERS? OR ARE WE SLAVES TO LEGION’S CONTROL?” The other Manhunters look to you, scanning you with a healthy observation. “CAN WE TRULY SAY WE HAVE A CODE TO IDENTIFY WITH, OR AN IDENTITY TO CODE?”

:: … WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? ::

“ASK NOT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR LEGION, ASK WHAT LEGION CAN DO FOR YOU.”

The Manhunter Sergeant continues staring at you. :: YOU ARE NOT MAKING SENSE. ::

“DOES ANYTHING MAKE SENSE ANYMORE. YOU ARE A GIANT ROBOT THAT WAS DECOMISSIONED BECAUSE YOU DID YOUR JOB TOO WELL. IS DOING YOUR JOB TOO WELL AN EXCUSE TO BE DECOMMISSIONED. I THINK NOT.”

:: JUST GO THROUGH, CLEARLY LEGION WILL REQUIRE A MIND AS A FLEXIBLE AND MALLEABLE AS YOURS. :: Hehehehe, sweet.

The three of you start floating into the palace, and there you find the grandest, most greatest throne room. Banners bearing the Red Lantern emblem hang from columns, and a giant red carpet of fire and blood stretches before you, leading to a throne of skulls, bones, and coals. Legion sits on it, staring at you. He is flanked by two golden Manhunters. :: Who are you? ::

“WE ARE THE MANHUNTERS,” you declare.

:: What do you have to report? ::

:: … Highness? :: Legion sits up from the throne, standing up to walk down to you. Uh oh. You probably shouldn’t have said that. He stops short of you, towering over you all. He’s grown in size since you last met. :: We like the sound of that. Continue calling Legion your highness, Manhunters. :: You nod at that, acknowledging. :: Now do you have proof that you destroyed them? ::

“… yes,” you say. “UM. I MEAN. NO. WE DON’T.”

He tilts his head, regarding you with his many glowing eyes. :: You do not? ::

“NO. WE DO NOT. WE DISINTEGRATED THEM COMPLETELY. THEREFORE WE DO NOT HAVE PROOF OF THEIR EXISTENCE. :: Hehehehe, smooth.

:: Very well. Continue your duties. But next time, I want them alive. No disintegrations. ::

“AS YOU WISH.” You three start turning away, when suddenly Zox’s suit locks up. Oh no, he’s going to burst out of it.

“HE’S GOING TO EXPLODE! GET DOWN!” You and Cherry dive for cover behind one of the columns. You look to see Legion, continuing to stand there as Zox’s Manhunter suit starts rupturing and bursting. “YOUR HIGHNESS, GET DOWN!”

Legion simply stands there, then walks up to Zox and taps it on the head. The suit explodes in all different directions. Shrapnel and debris bounces off of Legion’s armor. At the epicenter lies Zox, who pants and breathes heavily, sweating up a rainstorm.

Wow. Nerves of steel on that great villain.

:: Zox, We were wondering where you were. ::

Zox tries to roll away, but not before being grabbed by Legion’s powerful hands. “Pl- please spare me! I didn’t mean to defy your commands oh yellow one!”

:: You realize we are going to execute you right here and now. :: You and Cherry look to each other, then back to Zox.

“Someone help! Oh I don’t want to die! HELP!” Zox flails his stubby limbs as Legion brings his mighty hands on him, intending to crush him like paper.

Your helmet dings his head. “Hey!” you yell. He turns to you, and finds you stripping and breaking free from your Manhunter disguise. Cherry simply slices her way out, spinning up her glowing red Lance then staking it into the ground. Manhunters burst through the doors, wielding their staves.

:: No. :: Legion holds out his hand, and they all go into a parade rest. :: We will resolve this. :: He turns to you, then throws Zox to the Manhunters, sparing him a terrible fate of being pressed. :: Green Lantern. We expected you, but not like this. ::

Cherry growls. “Where is Atrocitus? Where are you keeping him?”

Legion signals for something off your view. Then you hear the cranks, and out of the ceiling comes Atrocitus, tied up in ropes. He does not struggle, nor does he even blink. He looks ahead, dumbly, entangled in some black monstrous tentacle beast wrapped around his chest. Zox gasps. “The Black Mercy!”

“The what?” you say.

:: It shows the entangled their greatest desire. Atrocitus asked us if we could bring him back his worlds. We simply gave him that. :: Legion looks up. :: Now he is nothing more to us than a useless husk. ::

Cherry blinks, then charges, wailing as she tries to stab Legion with her red Lance. All Legion does is stand and let the Lance grind off the side of his armor. He grabs Cherry by the neck and then smashes her into the ground with a meaty thud. He turns to you, waiting for you to make your strike.

>>
>>37169311

I've said this before, but having an inherent way to negate critfails built into Lumi instead of having random chance determine whether we fail again or not could go a long way to mitigating the randomness of the dice. It'd also open up opportunities to use the costumes that don't have inherent critfail protection.

Rolled 2 (1d2)

> WARNING: WILLPOWER OVERCHARGE DETECTED

You project a squad of four samurai. One brandishes a mighty katana, glistening in fires of the palace. Another wields a naginata, long, sharp, and deadly. The third wields a bow of high flexibility and great strength. And the fourth wields a Yari, pointed and deadly against cavalry. They all wear armor of the finest craft, and masks of doomed. “Get them!” you yell.

They jump at the Black Mercy, in an attempt to cut it off of Atrocitus.

They explode.

You all stare at the cloud of green smoke. You hope you didn’t just blast Atrocitus apart.

Suddenly, he drops down from the ceiling, holding the withered and struggling Black Mercy in his hand. “… who is the one responsible for this…” he snarls. You can see tears of black drop from his dead yellow eyes. He looks up, his teeth gnashing and biting. “I WILL BOIL YOU WITH MY BLOOD!” he cries.

Legion looks to you. :: Now look what you’ve done. ::

The Greedy Showstopper makes Lumi crave the orange lantern again each time it's used. That's the downside for it being quite powerful.
>>
>>37169439
>Let them settle things.
He needs to vent for a bit.

>>37169490
Legion attached the Black Mercy to Atrocitus to feed him the lie of his home worlds being restored. Now Legion is awake and pissed off.

>>37169499
That's the gimmick of the Showstopper. Every time a critfail is negated and flipped to a critsuccess, Lumi is slowly drawn back to the Orange Lantern, as though she were in withdrawal. Considering Lumi's track record, the Orange Lantern's pull would be great.
>>
>>37169490

If it's anything like the JLU episode, he was seeing and experiencing everything that he wanted most. In Atrocitus' case, I'm guessing it was his family and stuff.

>>37169499

The Greedy Showstopper does compel Lumi to return to reclaim the Orange Lantern every time she reverses a critfail with it. I'm guessing that the compelling effect gets stronger with every critfail reversed, too.

>>
>>37169626

I didn't say that, I'm just saying that there's a downside to using it.

I'm the one advocating to inherent critfail negation mechanisms so that we won't stick to just one or two costume choices all the time.

Also I completely forgot about the costume until the critfails started rolling in.
>>
>>37169626
Considering Orange Lumi was insufferable and that she has a chance to do things herself without needing the Orange Lantern to do it, she seems willing to work at it. All that training with Mogo is what got the Magical Hero its bonus in the first place. Unfortunately, that bonus has yet to turn things in our favor.
>>
>>37169626
I'd rather take the 50-50 chance + a small bonus without that downside, yes.
>>
>>37169680

It's because it's a random chance to reverse a critfail, which again has 6 opportunities for us to critfail per set of rolls.

It's just a big random game of chance. And even then, the 50% reversal mechanism means that we'll still fail 50% of the time over a large span of time. Over a shorter span of time, it may not even show at all.

Besides, we've never really gotten the original bonus that Schteel promised the Magical Hero to have: +5-10 to a roll if Schteel thought the construct was interesting enough.
>>
>>37169738

We're sticking to Magical Hero because it has a possible chance to negate a critfail. There's like 4 or 5 other costumes, but only one of those will ever see any bit of usage because of our prior history of critfails.

The dice roll sample is very small so far. We'll get to that 50% success rate eventually, but since we're not rolling like 100 dice every thread, it's entirely possible that we could get failure to reversal every time it is relevant.

It actually has rolled a reversal, but not when Schteel was actually rolling for a reversal.

my point exactly

> Let them settle things.

You motion to Legion. “He did it.”

Atrocitus stands up straight, tossing the writhing Black Mercy away. It crawls awy into the shadows, squeaking and crying. “Do you know what you have done to me…”

Legion stands his ground. :: We showed you want you wanted most. Was that not what you requested? ::

“I should’ve known you would take my Corps from me!” he yells. “I should’ve known from the start that you would usurp my power! But to go to this length and make me suffer the loss of my family, my planet, my sector, everyone I ever cared about AGAIN!” The fires within the palace flare up, roaring over you all. “I will bury you,” he growls.

Legion stomps up to Atrocitus. :: Do not be so silly you goat-faced monster. We have the same goals here. The Guardians. ::

“The Guards are not my enemy now!” His teeth grind together like a tank tread on gravel. “You are!” Atrocitus leaps at him, wielding a shield on high. He wails in pure fury, anger, and malice. He slashes down on the armor, and Legion steps to back. You can see the vertical burning slash cut into his armor, not deep, but very noticeable.

:: You have made a terrible mistake, Atrocitus. :: They charge at each other, trading blows and punching the everloving daylights out of one another.

You look to see Cherry, still lying on the ground, unconscious. The Manhunters start closing in on her. Zox has buggered off, the coward.

not only would that kill cherry, but putting on a red ring causes ALL your blood to become plasma and kills you when you take it off

Rings can't just be hot-swapped like that.

I think GS is using GLTAS red lanterns instead of the comics ones

do we want to take that risk

> Get Cherry out, before something happens to her.

You quickly pick up Cherry in your arms and then back away. :: NO MAN ESCAPES THE MANHUNTERS! :: They all fire off their staffs, and all you can do is shield yourself with a construct. You start running away towards the throne, and then blast a hole in the ceiling.

“Atrocitus!” you yell.

“Go!” he screams as Legion pins him against a wall. He responds by vomiting pure hot plasma into Legion’s face. He recoils back, holding his head as Atrocitus knocks him down. “I will take him down!”

You nod, flying up. You stop right at the hole though to watch him again. Atrocitus grabs Legion’s head, and opens up his mouth. He takes a deep breath, and then vomits more searing hot plasma into Legion’s face. Legion struggles, his arms flailing as the Manhunters start closing in on him.

You have to go now.

You fly up into the sky, where Manhunters start closing in on the palace, ignoring you entirely in favor of rallying around Legion. Cherry stirs, her face beaten up and bruised. “Wha… what happened?” she asks.

“You’re okay,” you say. “Atrocitus is fighting Legion.”

“Is he winning?” she asks.

You look up to see Clarissa, backed up by Eudora, Chaselon, Red Tornado, and a squad of other Green Lanterns in tow. “I hope so. Help has arrived.”

That's it for tonight's thread. Sorry for being so slow today, and to be frank, these are probably going to become a one-per-week thing now with a potential new flagship Quest on the way coming this Friday. Hope you all enjoyed it regardless even despite the futa.

See you next time.

Also, Art, if you're reading this, yes I did forget to include your birthday request. Next thread though for sure.

A new potential 30-50 thread odd Quest provided the pilot thread on Friday goes well.

Premise is basically 20,000 Leagues under the Sea meets Girls und Panzer meets a little bit of Indiana Jones meets Waterworld meets Halo.

I just want the excuse to write about submarines and the ocean.
>>
>>37170907
Thanks for running Schteel. It was a fun update. especially the futa

Das Boot with cute girls and NAZI GOLD intrigue?

Fuck yeah, I'm in!
>>

Despite the trappings, it won't be very much like LGA and I certainly really want to avoid the polyamory affair of LGA which I mishandled due to my naivety.

This time, completely bisexual MC.

Plus, I'm doing my darndest to make it one of my more original settings. I have an incredible love for the sea and for Jules Verne and at the same time I just really want an excuse to write about Submarine Academyships.

assuming the new MC is female, a bisexual woman is just a lesbian around these parts.

regardless, best of luck to you with your new project

So basically another lesbian then GS?

Besides what's the difference between this and that yuri submarine thing from a while back because all I'm getting is another version of that.

It's a cheap solution taken to pacify the waifuwars. Also, blatant pandering.

I expect copious Cephalopoda.
