You are Blanc, also known as CPU White Heart, also known as the patron goddess of Lowee and the very concept of Nintendo personified into one cutesy and overly m-word package (you're not a big fan of the concept of "moe"; here in Gamindustri, it's more pervasive than gravity and about fifty times more annoying).

It should really go without saying that you are not a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. In battle, your opponents occasionally call you a dwarf, like they're trying to propel you into a blind seething rage- but hey, joke's on them, that's your default emotion when you're in your CPU form anyway!

You proved that today when you broke and/or mangled a gibbering fearmonger's limbs for perpetrating an all-out, no-holds-barred attack on some visiting adventurers. In the middle of a crowded city that just so happens to be your capital. And on a festival day, no less. And on top of THAT, the first thing she did when she saw you coming was hurl attacks at /you/. Even Neptune, your eternal rival, the patron goddess of Planeptune and all things Sega, gave your violence a pass this time, instead of ragging at you about propriety or whatever.

The only things stopping you from brutally brutalizing the fearmonger (or, more likely, expelling her from Lowee forever) are the following: 1) you really want to know why the hell she did it, and 2) the adventurers she attacked turned out to be almost completely unharmed.

"Scared? Of course not!" Arturia actually sniffs in disdain. The knight doesn't look very out of sorts; she's got a few scuffs on her face, and her armor's a little dinged. If she was REALLY hurt, you'd be seeing her heart-patterned undies and literally nothing else. "Perish the thought! I've faced far too many horrors to be unmanned by the simplest of jump scares."

Then why was she screaming?

Arturia sputters for a moment. "Those were no screams. Those were my battle cries! I was showing those nefarious beasts the business end of my lances!"

Right. Well, that's not important, so you glance over at the other victim of this attack, and-

... there's always a bit of cognitive dissonance whenever you lay eyes on Lee-Fi and her Chinese dress; it's like some part of your brain forever expects someone in a karate gi and a bandanna. Right now, she's not particularly haughty and imperious; she's hugging herself, looking drawn and pale.

"... Rokko's missing," she mutters. "We were going to go look for her, but we didn't even make it out before this /thing/ jumped us, screaming gibberish and then- just-"

>[X] [QUESTION]

Okay. You’re not gonna lie to yourself- you’re not exactly the most reassuring when you’re dressed up in your HDD form’s battle bikini, especially not when you’re spattered with someone else’s blood. You’re not getting any more info from Lee-Fi when she’s in this state, and you’re not gonna be the one to calm her down- you have neither the time nor the ability.

You unsummon your war hammer and jerk a thumb back over your shoulder- if either of ‘em need you, you’ll be questioning little miss perpetrator over there. So just take it easy, alright? Your guards’ll be along in a few to help them out in their search.

“Thank you.” Arturia steps in, putting a comforting arm around Lee-Fi’s shoulders. “Sorry, Blanc. She’s not usually like this, but she took a non-combat job for the next week, showing off her martial artistry, but it involves wearing- you know, mascot costumes, like in amusement parks-”

“The animal suits are gonna eat me!” Lee-Fi suddenly wails, before covering her face with her hands.

… aah. Right. You worked with Lee-Fi on and off, and you DO remember her being notoriously bad with stuff you can’t put a fist through. Like ghosts, and most kinds of jump scares.

You leave them to it, walking a few paces back to where you left the fearmonger slumped against the wall- Neptune’s there, too; thankfully, as CPU Purple Heart, she’s capable of showing sense in keeping an eye on the little psychopath. Unsurprisingly, she’s not all that scary under direct sunlight- she looks ill at ease, keeping herself still as a discarded costume, and only her eyes and her breathing betray the fact that she’s still alive.

“No more violence, Blanc,” CPU Purple Heart says the moment you approach. “At this rate, anything more would knock her out.”

… is it something on your damn face? C’mon, just because you LOOK mad doesn’t mean you’re gonna tear this girl’s limbs out of their sockets.

“I’ve known you long enough,” is Neptune’s simple reply. But she steps aside anyway; in your own country, you’re the highest level of authority, and you both know it.

You crouch down in front of the fearmonger, trying to make eye contact- and she finally shifts in place, tilting her hat down to avoid it. A growl tears itself out of your throat before you can stop it- alright, spit it out. Why’d she do it? Some kinda vendetta against Arturia and Lee-Fi?

The fearmonger keeps her peace, her lips pressed into a thin line.

[ ] [WHO]’s she working with? There’s got to be someone else. She can’t have been working alone.
[ ] [WHY] did she do this- is it something to do with Arturia and Lee-Fi’s search for Rokko?

Does she really think you’re /stupid/? She’d just blabbed on and on about NOT ratting out her pals, and about how Arturia and Lee-Fi were gonna check out some stuff and “ruin everything.” On what goddamn planet is it ever okay to use that as an excuse to jump them with all those freaky-ass horror powers running at 1000%? And in the middle of a crowd! What the hell could possibly be important enough to endanger civilians, let alone /kids/ that-

“Í̞͇̱̻ ̹ͅẃ̘̜̩ou̱̥͍̱̼̲l̲͎̳̼̖̟͉dn̪͇̣̪͚͔͞ͅ'̤̙͖̗͚̟̮t̜͕̣̝̹̯ͅa̢ ̷̮h̞̪̬̳̪̥͜u̵̺rt͈̝̻̫̀ ̖n̡̗o̠͇̳ k͈̞̯͓̤͖͡i͉͈̮ḍ͕͓͟s͉͙̺!͉” the fearmonger blurts out. “Ḭ͇͟ ͉̙a̝͇̕i̩̟͔͞n̘̱̮̩͔'̳̪t̛̩̜̯͍̩̙ ̱n̖o̡͔̰͖̘̯ ̜̳̤̕ro̶̳ǫ̣̥̰k҉̦̖͕̝͓̰i̱e̛͈̹,̘͇̭̩̘͈ ͔̹̼I̡̬'̹͓̼̥̘̥͚̀v̡̭̻̭e̛̗̝͍̲̳̬̟ ̮͙͖̺̟go͖̰̝͇ţ͓̗̭͚ ̭̟͇̟͕͞f̶͈̹͍͍̟ͅu̵l̠̥͓͉̯̱͞l͓̘̝̗̘̳ͅ ͇̀c͚̪̻͇o̪͘n̢̠̤̞̫t̡̠̝̦̱̤͙̯r̺̝̗̼͓o̹̟͠l̯͚̝͓̬͇͔ ̺̫̠̳o̘͎̪̥͓̘͢v̶̞e̬ṟ̫̀ ͜my͏̦̼͚̣͔ ̣̩̺͎̭̥͞p̷̙̞̦̘o̲̪͖̭w̙̣e̺r̩̲͚͖̲̀s͖!̱͜!͉͎̠” She’s desperate, incensed, and it is the MOST fucking conceited thing you’ve heard all day because the dumb bitch is /sitting smack-dab in the middle of the fucking property damage she caused with her own attacks/-

A red haze falls over your vision, and you abruptly have her by the front of her shirt, slamming her back against the wall. You feel Neptune’s hands on your shoulders, and you struggle against the grip pulling you away, howling at the fearmonger- does she think she’s hot shit!? She IS a goddamn rookie! An F-rank amateur! She’d better look at the fucking mess she made- concrete blocks, bricks all over the place, shrapnel from her fucking puppets- and ask herself if that’s the type of shit that won’t turn ANY kid into spaghetti sauce!!

By the time you remember to breathe, you’re red-faced and panting, and CPU Purple Heart’s holding both your arms back. At least the fearmonger doesn’t have that smug look on her dumb face anymore- there’s just this thousand-yard stare, like what you shouted at her hurt worse than the broken limbs she’s got.

“I̕-I w̡as̢n̶'̡ţ ̡go̧n͢na h͘ưrt͘ ̡an̷y̧on͢e. ̸Wa̷s͡n't̷ gón͠na ̵h̴ur̡t ány k̢i͏d̢ś.͜ ̶Į j̨u̷s͜ţ ̧had ͝to stop 'em̧.̸ St͏op '̷e͘m f͞ro̡m̛ ͞look̨in̛' f͜o̢ŕ thàt̀ b̧l͟ùe͞ ͠k͘i͢d in͞ ́t̴he̴ ͏śpa͝ce̸ ͢ran̢g̢e҉r͡ ̕a҉rm̨or.̴ ̀I-͏I͡ wasn't-҉”

You glance back over your shoulder at Neptune, trying to look as un-bloodthirsty as possible- it works, and she lets you go. The fearmonger’s still going on, like she’s not totally there anymore.

You don't think Rokko would have too much trouble against any of this fearmonger's friends, but that's only assuming they're as pants-on-head incompetent as she is. Then again, there's also a goddamn snow fort in the middle of the snowy fields, which is coincidentally where the fighting apparently is taking place, and you didn't think THAT was a thing.

Right then. Arturia and Lee-Fi are both on prisoner-watching duty. Neptune is coming with YOU, and you're checking out whatever it is that's going on over there.

"As you command," Arturia intones. She pulls one of her stupidly large lances from behind her back, leveling it at the fearmonger's face. "She's not getting any chances to pull a fast one over us."

Right. Good. With any luck, you'll be back soon.

You don't wait for an answer, drawing upon the powers invested in you as a goddess to scream straight into the air like a human-sized jet plane, and the cityscape of Lowee once again sprawls out beneath you. You don't even have to /look/ to realize that Neptune's hot on your heels.

Yeah, flight's really one of the best perks of being a divine being in this messed-up world. It's almost enough to make up for the fact that, by all rights, you ought to still be in bed, with no worries at all. Instead, you're out here, cleaning up would-be plots against who-knows-what and jumping at shadows and being bugged by annoying purple-haired girls.

There is no justice in Gamindustri.

The snow fort actually takes a little while to pop into view; it's set so that a grove of trees sort of obscure it from a certain angle, and it's not nearly tall enough to stick up past the tops of age-old evergreens. Nice and unobtrusive.

... and out in front of it, there's a small group of figures trudging through the snow, making a beeline away from the fort and toward your capital city. Even from up here, Rokko's bright blue armor stands out like a sore thumb.

There is a distinct lack of fighting and murdering going on. You're not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. But they DO see you, and the figures stop to wave. No screams for help, thankfully.

[ ] [APPROACH] Make sure they're not hiding injuries, or that they don't need help. 'Sides, you've certainly got questions.
[ ] [RETURN] They can take care of themselves; go back and keep tabs on the prisoner, and maybe go get your guards organized.

>[X] [APPROACH]

It's a simple matter to touch down in front of the small group; you simply change your trajectory a little, sending yourself plummeting toward the ground. You hit it like you hit everything else: suddenly, violently, and at far higher speeds than safety and common sense should allow. Your feet kick up a small plume of snow, mostly because the snow closest to your landing evaporates into so much water and steam.

Behind you, Neptune slows down like a pansy, cutting her speed 'til she's hovering an inch above the snow. THEN she drops, plinking to the ground like a master ballerina, cutting a much more graceful figure.

You snort. Even now, she's a damn showoff.

"Blanc! And, um, CPU Purple Heart…?"

... oh wow, it's Estelle. You hadn't even realized- well, anyway, she's all cheery and happy to see you, which always makes you feel like a goddamn /heel/. But as always, you push that woe-is-me bullshit aside and give her a curt nod. Just coming to check in on all of them, since you caught wind of a fight going on here, around a snow fort. And Rokko's got some people worried about her, by the way.

"O-Oh. I got, c-carried away." The Blue Bomber has the good sense to look embarrassed- though that sure as hell isn't the ONLY thing she's looking, because she looks like absolute hell. Moreso than usual, even; you know she’s been having a tough time of things, but you hadn’t gotten a good look at her before the festival started. You’re damn sure that most of those wires aren’t supposed to be external, and the dead-eyed LOOK on her face-

For that matter, she's not the only one; Moru's just as beat up, and judging by her mildly stoned expression, she looks like she's seen the coming of the end times.

That dwarf girl who's taken to hanging around Estelle is here, too, and she looks about ten times worse, although you can't really tell- she ALWAYS looks sort of grungy at best, grimy at worst. The annoyed scowl on her face doesn’t help her looks much, like she was looking forward to a good long rest but then SOME lollygaggers had to come in and stand between her and some much-deserved relaxation.

Yeah, you and her both. You really can’t hold that against her.

For once, Estelle looks close to spotless. Odd- she's usually the one who's first in and last out of the battle.

Before you can think of anything to say- something that would've been tactful and NOT panic-inciting- CPU Purple Heart opens up her big dumb mouth. "There's been an attack in Lowee's capital. A fearmonger tried to take out Arturia and Lee-Fi, and she said she was trying to stop them from looking for Rokko-"

And then you can’t hear ANYONE, because EVERYONE’S clamoring all at the same time- Estelle yelling a question, no longer smiling, but she cuts herself off because she’s trying to stop a screeching Moru from charging single-handedly toward the capital, while Rokko actually /falls over/ onto the snow, not even bothering to stand up- hell, she’s dead set on crawling toward the capital, leaving behind a trail of motor oil, and the dwarf girl is either trying to drag her back up or drag her toward the town, you can’t even tell-

Goddamn it, Neptune.

[ ] [AIRLIFT] You and Neptune can probably airlift the two most injured people- by the looks of it, Rokko and Urist need the most urgent medical attention (and/or mechanic, in Rokko’s case).
[ ] [EXPRESS] You and Neptune can probably airlift Rokko and Moru back to Arturia and Lee-Fi. They’re all thick as thieves, and the two of them will run themselves half to death trying to get back to Arturia and Lee-Fi.

>[X] [QUESTIONS]
>[X] [EVERYONE SHUT UP]

Okay, yeah, you don’t have time for wacky misunderstanding hijinks. With a thought, your war hammer drops into your waiting hands, and you proceed to slam it into the poor abused earth with punishing force. The resulting cacophony is enough to get EVERYONE to clam up (or knock them flat on their asses, as in Moru’s case).

You take a deep breath, doing your level best to ensure that your next sentence won’t come out as an exasperated growl: everything’s /fine/. No one’s hurt. At most, they’re a little shaken. The fearmonger that jumped them is in custody right now, and you’re just out here to make sure that everyone HERE is okay, ‘cause the perpetrator squealed that she was the distraction for whoever attacked /Rokko/. Now, can someone PLEASE tell you who did this to-

“The hell is a fearmonger?” Urist growls sourly. You’re about to snap at her when you realize that that might… possibly be her natural voice, and not just her being a truculent bitch for the sake of being a truculent bitch. That’s backed up by her lessened scowl and the genuinely curious expression on her face. Huh. She really doesn’t know?

“I-It’s, another type of… a-adventurer.” To your surprise, it’s /Rokko/ who leans in and starts explaining it to the dwarf, in that grating, stuttering deadpan of hers. Estelle seems just as surprised for a moment, but then she turns and approaches you; old habits reassert themselves, and you both find yourself falling back into your respective roles as confidant and war leader. Just like the old days.

“Well, it’s like this- earlier today, a freelancer by the name of Myrra apparently lured Rokko out to the snowfields before attacking her.” Estelle nods over toward the catgirl and the dwarf. “Moru and Urist got here in time to turn the tides. The fly monsters from before joined in, too.”

… honestly, you like absolutely nothing about that sentence. Least of all the implication that anyone could have Rokko on the ropes like that. You glance over at the Blue Bomber, and you barely even begin to wonder whether her skills’ve rusted that far when Estelle speaks up again, anticipating your train of thought.

“Ahahah… it’s not like that. Whoever this Myrra is, she’s a real piece of work- called herself the Master of Magic, had her own minion army, and took the three of them on before they could take her down.” Here, Estelle shifts uncomfortably. “… I got here just in time to deal with the army and heal my friends.”

If your guess is correct, that’s probably what grating on Estelle the most. You don’t mention that, though- you’re pretty sure you’ve heard that Master of Magic name before, though. Possibly in connection with Leanbox- the goddess Vert’s territory. That wouldn’t be surprising, though- a lot of freelancers seem to gravitate toward that nation, even if they don’t ultimately join up with the Guild.

Estelle looks like she’s about to continue, but Neptune clears her throat meaningfully. You glance back at her, and she stares at you with the most impressive poker face in the world- although her eyes are kinda sparkling. A lot.

[ ] [AIRLIFT] Fly the most heavily wounded back to the city. You’ll have to take Urist, but Neptune can probably carry Rokko.
[ ] [CAPCOM] May as well fly Rokko and Moru back to Arturia and Lee-Fi! Then you can put a bow on this whole situation and deal with the rest of the day.
[ ] [SNOW FORT] Go take a look at the snow fort. Now that Rokko’s technically okay, you can spare a few seconds to look it over.
[ ] [KEEP LISTENING] Whatever else Estelle has to say is usually worth listening to.
[ ] [NEPTUNE] … you seriously doubt this will be in any way important, but you might as well humor Neptune.

This is probably important right?

It's not like Neptune would say something dumb.

Neptune is going to say that one of these two is the main character, right?

Guys, guys, the snow fort. If Urist can impress with her technical skills now, she'll be much more likely to get a permit for her real-deal dorf fort in the future.

You glance back to Estelle, but she sadly doesn’t know Neptune as well as you, and she’s taken in by CPU Purple Heart’s ultra-serious expression. That, and she’s far too polite for her own good. So instead of cutting through Neptune’s interruption as she should, Estelle defers to the goddess like she’s got something important to say.

Without any other choice, you sigh a little and turn to the purple-haired goddess. Yes, Neptu-

“I’ve narrowed it down,” she says without any preamble whatsoever. And also still with that goddamn ultra-serious expression and voice of hers, which is all the more serious due to how much deeper it is than her usual excitable chirping. “Whoever stole my spot as the main character is most certainly within this group.”

… but no matter how ~mature~ and ~serious~ Neptune becomes when she transforms, she’s still goddamn Neptune, all the way down.

“And as you promised before, it is your duty to help me figure out which of these adventurers has become the main character,” she finishes triumphantly. “We will have to start by grilling them on which- hey. Hey!”
Neptune squawks at your retreating back. “Wait! This is a matter of utmost importance!”

Utmost importance your /ass/, you mutter. You ignore Neptune’s further protests as she hurries to catch up-
Instead, you call back over your shoulder to Estelle. You two can finish up whatever you were talking about back at the Basilicom later, okay?

“Huh? Well… sure!” she stammers. Probably still a little shocked from seeing Neptune’s goddamn idiocy for the first time in her life- you don’t think Estelle ever had any really meaningful contact with the goddess, despite fighting against her a few times back in the day. “But what-”

You just want to take a closer look at this- this snow fort. Because you’re damn sure there wasn’t one the last time you were around these… parts…

Holy shit, that’s no snow fort. That’s a goddamn snow fort/ress/. If you didn’t know better, you would’ve thought it had been there the whole time, that’s how ridiculously permanent it looks. You rap your knuckles on the snow wall a few times.

After a moment, you slam your fist against it. It refuses to give. Holy hell, just how strong IS this stuff? It’s- it IS snow, right?

“Yeah. It is.”

There’s Urist’s customary growl again. There’s a hint of pride to it, the same note that was there back when she first started talking about dwarves. The grimy-looking dwarf hitches her thumb onto her belt, and trundles on over toward you- or rather, she has to goose-step through the snow, since it’s pretty deep for her. Clearly, she’s got it worse than YOU do in the height department. “It’s a temp job. Not enough room in it to live proper and dwarf-like, but it’ll keep bad shit out as long as no one lowers the drawbridge.”

So that’s how they outlived the army.

“… yeah. Hm.” Urist averts her eyes, scowling off into the distance. There’s a distinctly embarrassed edge to her next mutter. “We locked the damn bitch in with us, though-” she talks over your reflexive amused snort, coloring slightly. “But that’s only ‘cause we broke her fucking limbs!” the dwarf adds defensively. “By all rights, she shoulda been screaming with pain, not- you know- recovering and casting spells out her ass!”

“And escaping through a tunnel in the dirt,” Moru mutters- the first thing she’s said this entire time, as far as you know.

“Eeny, meany, miny, moe…” CPU Purple Heart, patron goddess of Planeptune and divine being in her own right, mutters to herself, pointing at each adventurer in turn.

… to be honest, you wish you were back in bed.

[ ] [TUNNEL] Inspect the tunnel that Urist just brought up. You’re not comfortable with rabble-rousers and assholes undermining the newbie zone of Lowee with tunnels and warrens.
[ ] [BACK HOME] Go… go check on your OWN prisoner. The one whose limbs you broke. Because if this Myrra can function without working arms, then maybe that fearmonger can…?
[ ] [ESTELLE] You know what? Now’s a damn good time to double check what Estelle meant to speak with you about before Neptune interrupted.
[ ] [NEPTUNE] … fine. FINE. If it’ll get her to shut up, you’ll help her figure out who the goddamn main character is.

When she figures it out, I think Urist should give her a present.

Two of them, to be opened when she gets home.

A Dwarf Fortress male and female cat.

ALRIGHT, it's getting kinda late, so I'll have to call it a thread here! Next time, I'll pick it back up from Urist's point of view, since 1) the gang's all back together again, and 2) this 'mini-thread' has basically run back up against the main plot.

Also, as I mentioned on Twitter, I... will probably not get much of any chance to run over the next three weeks, at least until the start of February (due to being overseas and working- does 4chan even get through China's firewall??). Sorry for that; however, I ought to be able to get one more thread in this coming FRIDAY, 1/9, from 9-ish pm EST.

As always, any updates to schedule will be at https://twitter.com/BlorpQuest, and questions can go here or to ask.fm/BlorpQuest. Thanks for participating, and hope you enjoyed the thread!

she would be quiet if not mute, have a large arsenal of guns, that never have enough ammo, and the ability to pick up power ups from boxes and stuff. http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom%27s_protagonists
