You are Shee Hyul, rebel and psychic. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

You walk away from the meeting with Sergeant Sara Yonsul, your thoughts whirling. You originally agreed to tell her if Kae, or rather Kaelyn Reaper, daughter of the Kings right-hand fae Lord Reaper, contacted you.

Apparently she was under the impression that you went out on the town and would stand a good chance of meeting Kae again, despite the vast size of the hive. When she found out that you rarely go out as you are a poor duster, the two of you struck a new bargain: the sergeant will provide with funds to allow you to frequent the places Kae might go, and you will go looking for her.

Of course, you also need a reason to meet with the sergeant on a regular basis. You offered to pretend to be her girlfriend but she declined, despite your earlier kiss. Instead you are supposed to be a habitual drug user and one of her street-informants. Your regular arrests will give her an excuse to be seen talking to you, and she implied that the criminal record that you’re about to build will be a way to keep you in line. You hope she’s joking about that one.

You are due to meet her tomorrow night once she’s worked a few details out, that might be the night she wants you to start looking for Kae, or maybe not, who knows?

You get on the bus back to Dust Town and it makes its slow way to your stop. You pick up Lirael from school and you listen to her talk about her day at school, the details wash over you as you’re not really listening. You have some time this evening to do something you want for once.
>>
You could try talking to Rainya or someone else, maybe Charun has the next mission planned? Or you could try hunting the Gouger now that you’re healed, or you could head back to the psychic research facility to explore it, activate a new psychic power, or maybe work on your warmech some more, or you could do something else.

What are your plans?

>Talk to Rainya
>Talk to Charun
>Talk to someone else (who?)
>Hunt Gouger
>Explore psychic facility
>Activate new power (this pleases Jagganatha)
>Repair Warmech
>Other (what?)

I have thought about the issues from last thread and I am now using the following rules, effective immediately.

Posting Rules

i) Voting lasts for 10 minutes after the QM posts the options. Voting time limit may be extended at QM discretion if there is a lot of discussion or vote changing in the light of a question asked of the QM, or votes changing due to write-in or other factors.

i-a) Vote times for OP votes will be 15 minutes, not 10.
i-b) The QM reserves the right to call votes earlier than 10 minutes if one option is winning with a clear and obvious majority.
i-c) The QM my at his discretion call for votes with a shorter voting period (typically 5 minutes). If he does, then a post outlining the options will be posted, approximately 10 minutes will be allowed for discussion then a further post will be used to start the vote. Votes will count until the vote is officially called. This is to allow discussion of options to allow players to consider before voting. This is the default vote option for Gifts.

ii) FD will be used only if a vote is tied or too tangled to call due to vote nesting or other issues.

These rules will probably be tweaked as time goes on, I welcome suggestions and feedback. I have added them to the rules paste.

I can see why you wouldn't start up with the gift ffrom the King of Hell, but it might be useful to have that one before talking to Rainya. In case that is where people want to take it, since he is big about allies.

>>
>>37219313
What gift? We just got to 2 favor, we need to take another of his options before we can get a gift.

Ichor is at 2 favor because we rejected her last gift, we get the first gift at 3.
>>
>>37219352
> At rating 2 and above you start to gain gifts.
>>
>>37219374
And we didn't get one when we got to 2 favor from the King of Hell or the Ichor. We would've gotten the option to receive a gift when we reached that level if it was going to grant one.

>>
>>37219387
Actually we did get our gift from Ichor when we got Favor2, because we got Favor2 for accepting her gift over Jaggarthas.
I can see it could read to mean we get gifts by choosing their options at Favor2, but Mirror said the second step grants us gifts, so I had assumed it meant we get the first at 2 and Pally didn't want to interrupt the scene with a power vote so close to end of the thread.
>>
>>37219390
Wrong quest, anon.

>>37219426
We got Ichor's first gift that wasn't brought on by an external factor at Favor 3, we earned favor 2 immediately after we learned about the Five.

>+1 favor from accepting favor
>+1 favor from comforting Lirael post-vision
>+1 favor from letting Lirael feed properly
>-1 favor from rejecting gift

We did not receive any favor from accepting her gift over Jaggantha's.
>>
>>37219462
Ah, yes, I forgot about the +1 we got from Post-Vision. My mistake then. Odd we didn't get any favor from choosing her over Jagghanta
>>
>>37219479
Pretty good chance of getting favor from this scene, if Rainya is willing to talk and we don't fuck it up.
>>
You head towards Rainyas home, running the conversation through in your head: should you apologise? What should you tell her about Lirael? Should you just ask her to trust you?

You look down at the young girl holding your hand, cheerful, friendly and to you not particularly threatening, but how will Rainya feel?

As you reach the point on the dusty road where you either turn one way to go to your home, or another way to go to Rainyas, you wonder what to do with Lirael, and what path you will take with Rainya.

Lirael?
>Comes with you to Rainyas
>Goes home alone
>Goes somewhere else (where?)

Talking to Rainya
>No plans, play it off the cuff
>Tell her the full truth
>Lie to her (This pleases Baalzamon)
>Partial Truth (what?)
>Tell her its need to know (This pleases the King of Hell)
>Other plan (what?)
>>
>>37219522
Lirael
>Bring her home, then go to Rainya

>Tell her the full truth
>>
>>37219522
How much does "need to know" differ from "full truth"?
As I see it, need to know, would include Liraels vampirism, her being sort-of an orphan and the part about the vision she got from the Fortune Teller?
>>
>>37219462
>wrong quest
>implying Pally isnt't the paladin of my joy

>>37219522
>comes with you to raynia
>tell her its needs to know
>>
>>37219543
*Need to know* is not telling Rainya anything but telling her its for her own good. You are privy to things she doesn't need to know, her knowing would just put her in danger.
>>
>>37219522
>Comes with you to Rainyas
>Tell her the full truth
>>
>>37219522
Lirael?
>Comes with you to Rainyas
Talking to Rainya
>Tell her its need to know (This pleases the King of Hell)
Tellin her the full truth is a bad idea.
>>
>>37219522
>Bring her home, then go to Rainya
>Tell her the full truth
>>
>>37219584
Not telling her anything will just alienate her or falsely confirm whatever it is she currently suspects.
>>
>>37219522
>Comes with you to Rainyas
>Tell her the full truth
I assume we get to choose what 'exactly' we tell her, since his "need to know" and mine seem to differ wildly.
I would want an ally we can use our powers around.
>>
>>37219594
I'd rather not let them know Shee's a blood whore, after all.
>>
>>37219584
Not too sure what exactly we tell her, but just brushing her off like that option suggests is not in our longterm interests as I see it.
>>
>>37219608
Technically she is a Feeder not a blood-whore at this point. And the "I'm saving a little child from starvation or having to assault people" is a pretty good reason.
And at least that part, we can frankly not really hide anymore anyway, except through attempts of extreme subteruge.
Rainya is currently convinced we feed Lirael.
>>
Lirael coming with and full truth it is (truth in this case being what Lirael is and the vision the fortune teller had that Lirael saw.

Whether you tell her more depends upon conversation choices afterwards.
>>
You head to Rainyas with Lirael, after a moments hesitation you knock on the door.

“Who is it?” comes the answer, sounds like Rainya.

“It’s Shee” you say. There’s a pause and then the door creaks a little as if someone is leaning on it.

“What is it?” comes the reply “I’m busy.”

“I just want to talk” you say.

“We already talked” Rainya replies.

“Not really we didn’t” you point out.

The door opens a crack and you see Rainyas face in the tiny sliver between door and frame, Rainyas single visible eye looks you up and down and around to see if you’re alone. Lirael is standing next to you. You hear a long indrawn breath come from Rainya and she says “Alright, I suppose you had best come in.”

Rainya opens the door and lets you in but keeps her distance from Lirael. Rainyas home is not that much different from yours: a pallet to sleep on, a rickety table, wooden crates as chairs and the ever present dust.

Rainya stands looking at you warily. You can see partly healed cuts and bruises on her face and she moved stiffly when she opened the door.

“Well?” she says “Talk”

“I came to tell you the truth” you say “About what happened in the fortune-tellers, and” you add, putting a hand on Liraels shoulder “About Lirael.”

Rainyas expression doesn’t change “Go on” she says.

“Lirael is a vampire” you say, you feel Lirael twitch at your side adding “she was separated from her parents and I found her, I’ve been trying to keep her safe ever since, her mental powers are pretty strong and she can read minds. The fortune teller read my future and saw something bad, really bad. Lirael saw it in her mind and it scared her, like really scared her. That’s why she hit you.”

“Sorry” says Lirael to Rainya “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

Rainya just nods in acknowledgement “And the future the fortune teller saw for you?”
>>
>>37219647
>vision
Noooooooooope.

We must NOT tell ANYONE about that vision. Like, ever.
>>
You sigh, running a hand through your hair “Rainya I follow the Five, I’ve done so all my life, but now I’m caught up in some strange game where I have to, I dunno, prove myself as their champion or something, and in doing so they’re going to grant me abilities, powers I guess. The fortune teller thought it relates to a prophecy of the Five, which I guess it kinda does, and the prophecy is a pretty horrible one. Lirael saw that in her head and thought it was going to be me.”

“Oh ok” says Rainya, relaxing a bit “So this prophecy, what is it about? Which of the vamp families does Lirael come from? I knew she was a hiver just like you.”

Prophecy?
>Lie – “The prophecy is made-up bullshit”
>Truth – “I’m going to fight a bunch of other people in a race to godhood”
>Vague – “its a bad one”
>Other (what?)

Lirael
>Lie – “Oh she’s from the Nevethals, y’know, them.”
>Truth – “She’s a rare type of vampire called a Graced”
>Vague – “You won’t have heard of them, they don’t live around here”
>Other (what?)

You can write-in answers for these, in quotations are the default answers.
>>
>>37219800
>Truth – “I’m going to fight a bunch of other people in a race to godhood”
>*laugh*
>No, but seriously. Thats it.

>Lirael is not from any of the local vampire families, her kind is hunted by other vampires, thats why she was here in Dust Town to begin with. For her own sake and yours, it might be better you don't know exactly what she is.
>>
>>37219800
Is there something about the Nevethals that would cause Rainya to not ask any further questions about Lirael? Like why we haven't gotten in contact with some of her still-living/unliving relatives?
>>
>>37219800
>Truth – “I’m going to fight a bunch of other people in a race to godhood”
Okay bear with me, I know these seems like a bad option BUT, sooner or later the other guys will arrive. If we want Rainya by our side then, we NEED to tell her now, otherwise it will be just another lie between us.
And we are going to fight the champion of Baalzemon at some point. This would fuck us hard.

>Lirael is not from any of the local vampire families, her kind is hunted by other vampires, thats why she was here in Dust Town to begin with. For her own sake and yours, it might be better you don't know exactly what she is.
>>
>>37219839
The Nevethals are a known but small vampire family.

Won't stop her asking questions but its a response saying that Lirael has a family and one Rainya has no reason to be curious about. Rainya would probably be curious if Lirael was from a powerful vampire family.
>>
>>37219800
>Lie – “The prophecy is made-up bullshit”
>Vague/Lie – “I have no idea. She doesn't know much either..”

No, we can't let her have the impression that it's a bad thing. That will definetly make her wary of Shee and open her to betrayals and stuff.
>>
>>37219848
i think it's the opposite. Specially after Shee saying it's bad already.

“This is a delicate discussion” you say “I’m going to need you to come with me somewhere else.”

“Where?” asks Rainya, wary once more.

“Just...somewhere” you sa, holding out your hand to her you add “do you trust me?”

“I....guess so” says Rainya, taking your hand as Lirael takes your other one. You focus, closing your eyes and push hard...damn taking 2 people with you isn’t easy but you make it, reappearing in the psychic facilities dorm you slept in yesterday.

“Ooooooooh, whaaaaaat?” says Rainya, looking around in shock “Shee where are we? How did you even do that?” She stares at you “You didn’t tell me you were a Champion!”

“I’m not” you say “I’m a psychic. Now, lets get those wounds healed.”

“You can do that?” Asks Rainya a little breathlessly as Lirael lets go and fetches her datapad.

“Sure” you say. As you heal Rainya you tell her about the facility, its purpose, how long its been here. Rainya listens in wide-eyed amazement.

“So the prophecy” you say “I spoke to, I dunno, was it the Five themselves, was it their messengers? Anyway, they are trying to convince me I have to fight a bunch of other people blessed by the Five. One will survive, everyone else dies or gets enslaved, or so they tell me, along the way they’re going to *help* me. I had no idea about this stuff before the vision, when Lirael freaked out, I knew just as little as you did - that’s why I dragged her away and not you, because I feared she might attack you directly.”

“Ok” says Rainya, taking it all in “That makes sense I guess. So who is Lirael?”

“She’s a rare type of vampire” you say “She’s not even from this planet.”

Rainyas eyes widen “Oh....” she says. Rainya is silent for several minutes then says “So now that you’ve told me all of this, and taken me to your secret hideout, what now?”

As you head through the facility you feel a heat burning within your body like a fever, you feel yourself sweating as the heat becomes almost too much to handle. You take control of it and force it into a shape that you want...

The King of Hell offers one of three gifts:

Charisma of the King of Hell: Gain a bonus to Fellowship checks involving leadership and persuasion. At higher levels you can summon a crown of green flames to augment any mind-affecting powers, your form alters to be more physically attractive and you gain more and more increases to Fellowship. Has peripherals that allow various leadership/command based effects.

Form of the King of Hell: You gain a demonic appearance and grow wings, allowing you to fly. At higher levels your form becomes more and more demonic, you would also gain claws, the ability to breathe fire and stronger magical (psychic) abilities, and finally the ability to travel to Hell.

Durability of the King of Hell: Gain a bonus to Constitution and hit points and natural damage reduction. Higher levels increase all of these and add (slow) regeneration. Initial level has no physical change but later levels do.

Vote will happen in 10 minutes, no votes will count until vote is called. Voting will last for 5 minutes from when I call it.
>>
>>37220560
So Charisma and Durability seem like the best, and since people keep complaining about our lack of persuasion. I guess we can take Charisma and wait for Durablity until later?
Durablity 'might' be more immediatly useful. But Charisma would allow us to be better at psychic rebell things and making the allies we really badly need.
>>
>>37220560
So Charisma or Durability..
>>
>>37220576
Sounds reasonable, we have invested a lot in Teleportation to make Blink our go-to defensive power anyway.
We can probably do without durability for a while.

>>
>>37220560
>involving leadership and persuasion
All kinds of persuasion or only the kind relating to taking charge and leadership?
>>
>>37220560
Form looks really nice but it requires substantial investment since most of it's real benefit comes from higher levels and has distinctly non-human features even at lower levels, so I'm going to hold off on considering it until we have some way to deal with that.

We've increased our durability quite a bit already and recently gained further ways to do so, if we need HP and DR we can invest in Adaptation and more Psychometabolism disciplines.

We can't really emulate Charisma's benefits right now, so I'm probably going to go with that for my vote.

>>37220623
This is an important question, though.
>>
>>37220635
Its important to know, but won't make a difference in my vote.
Even if its only relates to taking charge of a situation, its still better than Durability by a slight margin, since we have ways of gaining more by other means.
>>
>>37220623
both leadership and diplomacy are boosted.

Deception is not.

Its purely physical and as standard is not that unusual: gets rid of any physical flaws, Shee has a one-off chance to change her appearance (height, measurements etc) and generally looks *attractive*.

A peripheral can be purchased to raise it to supernatural levels though.

You feel more confident, more sure of yourself. Talking people around to your point of view seems like it would be easier now, I mean, sometimes people can be so stubborn, but you can make them see the right course of action, following you.

[Charisma of the King of Hell 1: You add your rank in this power to all Fellowship rolls made to command, lead, persuade or negotiate.]

You, Rainya and Lirael wander through the facility, you are calling for the Teacher. Finally, in one of the classrooms, in between row upon row of seats covered in dust, he appears.

“Cadet Shee” says the Teacher, as Rainya jumps back from him with a squeak “How may I be of assistance?”

You point to Rainya “Rainya is a Champion, I was wondering if you could tell us about her, maybe help her with her powers.”

Rainya jumps as the Teacher examines her “Scanning, scanning” he says thoughtfully then pauses, as if thinking. Oh great has he frozen up?

Rainya whispers to you “Shee is this a ghost?”

Champions
Many people look to Champions today as heroes, their powers putting them above mere mortals. In ages past the Champions were created as weapons of war, their abilities not intended to save lives but to take them. Champions today live exceptional lives but as part of society, super-powered police, fire-fighters and medics are just as common as super-soldiers or super–villains.

Champion powers are varied and diverse, including but not limited to: increased physical or mental abilities, size-changing, telekinesis, physical duplication, teleportation, superspeed, energy manipulation and a plethora of other abilities.
>>
>>37220979
I read the pastebin. It doesn't say anything about my question of if Champions are psychics and whats the difference.
As far as that write-up goes Champions are just the public word for psychics.

Champions specifically are like mutants/metahumans from cape comics - a wide range of powers. Their powers tend to run in family groups.

Psychics have...other...origins.

They do have powers with similar effects though so some confusion is understandable, both in and out of setting.
>>

“No it’s an AI with a holographic avatar” you say to Rainya

“A what?” asks Rainya, her brow wrinkling in confusion as Lirael giggles.

“A bit like how you project yourself to a different place with your ability,” you say “there are machines that allow certain computers to project a image like this.”

“Oh” says Rainya, looking at the blurry form of the Teacher “I didn’t know computers looked like people, I thought they looked like metal boxes.”

Liraels giggling intensifies.

You think about teaching Rainya about computers one day...

Finally the Teacher speaks “Champions first appeared in 8674, Imperial Calendar, several groups have claimed responsibility for their creation. Champions were recognised as full sentients in 8874 Imperial Calendar. See also The Three Great Uprisings, The Price of Freedom, The Desolation of the Kalhiri sector.”

“What about Rainya?” you ask

“Your guest is showing genetic strains from all four known champion pan-groups” says the Teacher “Specific family lineage unknown. Has she exhibited any abilities yet?”

“Yes” says Rainya, and then there’s 2 of her “I can do this.” She says.

“Duplication” says the Teacher “Part of the Warrior Champion skillset, how many duplicates can you make?”

“Just one” says Rainya.

“How old are you?” asks the Teacher, walking his hologram around her as he inspects her.

“I’m fifteen” says Rainya “Why?”

“You should be able to manage two or three by now” says the Teacher “What do your tutors say?”

“I don’t have any tutors.” Says Rainya

“Accessing Records” says the Teacher “No Cadet by the name of Rainya found, error, memory may be damaged. Cadet Shee, is my memory faulty, should Rainya be on the student rolls?”

It sounds like it’s asking you if you want to sign Rainya up as a student.

“If she was” you say “how could you help her, I mean, this is a psychic training facility, not a champion one.”
>>
“Many champion powers are similar in effect to psychic powers” says the Teacher “your guest may benefit from the training courses. Would you like to know more about champion powers? I have a 1 hour introductory lecture I can run.”

Should Rainya be a student here?

You look at Rainya, raising an eyebrow “I think so yes.” You nod at her and she catches on “Yes” she agrees.

“She is yes” you say to the Teacher. The Teacher asks Rainya a few questions such as full name, date of birth and then says “File created, Rainya Halms is now a Cadet at this facility with Level 2 Access.”

“Ok” you say “Show us the introductory video.”

An image appears on the wall at the front of the class, you Rainya and Lirael dust off seats and sit down.

“Champions” booms a voice over as a video shows people walking on a street, looks like the Hive except there’s a blue sky above them, huh, an outdoor city, weird.

“They have amazing powers” continues the narrator “The power to fly, to project fire, leap tall buildings, lift hovervehicles in one hand. But where did these powers come from? And how can you tell a champion from an ordinary person? The truth is, champions look just like ordinary people, anyone you see could be a champion, but where did these powers come from?”

The scene changes to what looks like a lab, except many of the technicians have strange symbols on their coats.

“Some claim champion powers evolved, that they are the next step in evolution. This isn’t true. A long time ago a group of mages-”

A legal disclaimer flashes –Everyone shown in these videos is an actor, any similarity to any groups of mages is purely coincidental-

“-imbued people with fantastical powers: strength, flight, energy projection, teleportation and other abilities. However-”

Here the technicians appearances change to make them seem more sinister and several start laughing.

“-rather than use this knowledge to help others, the mages turned them into slaves, using illegal spells to keep them in line as they experimented on them more and more. They finally found ways to ensure that the powers a champion had would be present in their children, and an even darker chapter began...”
>>
Sinister-sounding music players as you see row upon row of people in cages, occasionally guards remove one, sometimes to a lab, sometimes to a large room to test their powers, sometimes through a door labelled *rejects*.

The voiceover continues “Champions fought long and hard for their freedom and eventually a group of champions called the Pantheon led them to victory. By then the champion powers had been classified into 4 pan-groups: Kinetics have control over energy, including the ability to project or control it, or telekinetic powers or superspeed; Mystics have mental powers including the ability to build impossible machines, read minds or are more intelligent than any ordinary mortal; Shades have powers of stealth and agility, such as shadow-manipulation, phasing through objects or turning invisible; and Warriors have powers of strength and endurance, or the power to change size, transform into combat-capable forms or even create duplicates of themselves.”

The scene changes to different groups of champions, each group has some sort of insignia “Champions had also developed extended family groups with the same, or similar powers: The Fivefold Path all have control over one of the Five classic elements: Air, Earth, Fire, Water or Wood. The Pantheon all have powers of flight, strength, invulnerability and heat-vision and the Kirchoffs make a living as couriers using their powers of teleportation, and there are many other groups across the galaxy.”

The vid goes on to explain about how some champion integrate into everyday life, some join the military and others form *super-groups* working with the police to fight unspecified menaces. The vid avoids saying outright, but it is implied that some champions don’t join society and just use their powers for their own benefit.
>>
Eventually the vid ends. It’s later and you are getting kinda hungry.

“C’mon” you say to Rainya and Lirael “Let’s get something to eat.”

“Not military rations again” complains Lirael

“It’s that or we go back to Dust Town for Rat Surprise Stew” you say.

Lirael makes gagging noises.

The three of you find some more of the preserved rations and bottled water and with the help of the Teacher even manage to find your way to a proper mess hall, though all of the plates and cutlery need cleaning before you can use them.

As you eat you talk to Rainya, find out about her.

“That’s something we have in common” you say to her after she tells you about her family “I never knew my parents much either, and that sucks losing them both in a mining accident.”

“Yeah” says Rainya, remembering “My older brother looked after me for a time, but then he left saying he had to get *justice* for mam and dad. I joined the rebellion partly to find him, but Charun says he never heard of him.”

“So your powers” you say “How long have you had them?”

“As long as I can remember” says Rainya, taking a drink “One of my few memories of my dad is him telling me to never use them and to hide them. I don’t think he or my mam had powers but I think my dads dad might have, and got arrested for it.”

“Maybe that’s why you can’t use them as well as you should?” you say “You’ve been trying not to use them, maybe if you use them more they’ll get stronger?”

“Maybe” says Rainya “I suppose I can try it...” she looks to you for approval and you nod encouragingly.

“What’s it like?” you ask “Being two people?”

Rainya giggles, and then suddenly there is another Rainya next to her, as she talks, sometimes one talks, sometimes the other, sometimes both.

“I’m not two people” she says “I’m one person with two bodies, I see through both eyes, use four arms and four legs but I’m still me.”

“Sounds confusing” says Lirael
>>
“It can be” says the Rainyas “It helps if I’m concentrating on one thing at a time, if I’m trying to do two things at once I can get clumsy.”

You chat a bit more with Rainya, it seems she looks up to you a little for some reason, but neither you nor her mention it out loud.

After eating you ask the Teacher “Are there any training courses for Duplication?”

“Negative” says the Teacher “Many of the warrior powers do not have analogues in the psychic curriculum, if Cadet Rainya starts developing others powers I may have a course for her.”

“Oh” says Rainya, a little downcast at that.

You think of a way to cheer her up.

“Say Rainya” you ask “You ever thought of going into the Hive to have fun?”

Rainya looks at you uncertainly and says “Yeah I’ve thought of it, but I wouldn’t be able to, being a duster and all, what were you thinking?”

Lirael raises her hand and starts bouncing on her toes “Ohh! Ohh! Can I come?!”

What were you thinking?

>I’m looking for a girl called Kae, you can help

“Why are you looking for her?” asks Rainya “And why in the Hive?”

“Last time I met her was at a club in the Hive.” You say “And she has some important information I need.” Telling Rainya everything might get you in trouble with Sergeant Yonsul after all, maybe you can ask the Sergeant tomorrow?

“Oh ok” says Rainya “Yeah, I’d like to help you with that.”

As Lirael seems on the verge of exploding you say to her “Sorry Lirael, there’s a chance we might encounter something that could suppress your powers, putting you in danger is not what I want to do.”

Lirael points at Rainya “But *she* gets to go, and my powers are way betterer than hers!”

You ruffle Liraels hair and say “Sorry kiddo, I’ll see if you can come another time ok?”

Lirael just pouts, you see her sticking her tongue out at Rainya when she thinks you aren’t watching.

“So who is gonna keep an eye on Lirael?” asks Rainya “I mean, I could but I might need my power when we’re out.”

“Yeah!” says Lirael “I don’t wanna stay with half of Rainya, that’s just icky” Of course it also means you have a way to talk to Lirael, but Rainya is right, she might need her power.

“Also” says Rainya “If we’re looking for someone are we going is disguise or something, what’s our cover story.”

“No disguise” you say with a smile “I think Kae will approach me if she sees me.”

Rainya asks “Is this something you’re doing for the rebellion?”

“Kind of” you say “But Charun doesn’t know, so please don’t tell him.”

“Ok” says Rainya “Anything else?”

“Yeah” you say “The Hive is full of asshole vamps, we may run into some who can’t keep their fangs to themselves.”

“Let’s play some games together” you say to Lirael. The two of you spend the rest of the evening playing games, some of which you know from your youth, some you don’t. Rainya just watches.

When you get home you see Rainya to her place and then settle in with Lirael, offering to feed her. Lirael bites you but barely draws any blood and if anything it just leaves you needy and wanting more. Lirael sleeps well but you don’t, awake and turning over much of the night. You wake the next morning tired and in strong need of a bite or a few drugs, you blearily arrange for a duster family you know to look after Lirael after school and arrange to meet Rainya after you both get off work.

Work passes slowly and you watch the clock throughout the day. As you’re sat at your desk sorting work orders and eating a sandwich one of your co-workers pops his head out of the office and yells at you. Shaun is kinda an asshole and is always calling you things like “filthy duster” and asking if you’re the reason the office needs to get cleaned every night.

“Hey Scruffy!” he yells “Turn your vid over to Channel 952 – they’ve caught some of your friends!”

What is he blathering about? Well it is your lunch break so using your vid-feed on your station is allowed, just a look, you are curious as to what the fuss is about.

You see a long line of dusters on their knees in chains as a Gifted reads out their crimes including rebellion, terrorism and inciting sedition. As the views pans down the faces you are relieved to not see anyone you recognise, but as it pulls out to give a wide shot...you do.

The dusters to be hanged are overlooked by a seating box with various high-ranking vampires and fae...including Kaelyn Reaper.

Kae looks bored at the proceedings, but most of the others in the box look eager, leaning forward in eagerness.

The Gifted finishes with “And so you shall be hanged by the neck until dead.”
>>
Some of the dusters weep, others just stare, one gets to his feet and spits at the Gifted, guards club him back down with stun rods.

“Yeah kill the scum” you hear a voice in the office, sounds like Shaun.

>>
You keep watching, refusing to look away, but as you watch the *rebels* you also watch Kae closely. Kaes look of boredom doesn’t change as the ropes are placed around necks and people hauled to their feet.

The hatches drop and dozens of men and women at once start dancing and jerking on their ropes. You hear a roar from those watching, echoed by Shaun’s cheer from the next office over.

Kaelyn...closes her eyes and turns away.

When the last person stops jerking and the bodies are being cut down you see vampires and fae rising from their seats in the box, Kae gets up to leave, the same look of boredom on her face.

After work you head out to meet Rainya before seeing the sergeant, just in case anything went wrong or Rainya was late out of work.

“Hi Shee” Rainya is on time and ready to go, but all she has are duster clothes. You could go shopping with her, let her go shopping whilst you meet the sergeant, or even take her with to meet sergeant Yonsul. Of course, Rainya will need money, and whilst you have cash, Sergeant Yonsul promised you more. You’re also feeling at two very strong needs, you need a bite or some drugs or you’ll be distracted all evening. Lirael wasn’t hungry for blood this morning, but she will be now.

“Hi Rainya” you say distractedly.

“What’s the plan?” asks Rainya

“I just need to do something first” you tell Rainya, leaving her as you go to meet Sergeant Yonsul. Rainya nods, happily eating a salad you bought her at a diner whilst you do to meet the Sergeant.

You get to the place and head to the back room, no one seems to notice, a few minutes later Sergeant Sara Yonsul joins you “You ready” she asks

“Yeah” you say

“Good” she says, handing you a wad of cash, looks to be 500 credits there “Keep your comlink on at all times and call me if you need help, other than that you’re on your own.”

“Am I getting arrested tonight?” you ask, you don’t have any Shine on you, but you could get some when you go home to visit Lirael.

She shakes her head with a chuckle and a smile “Not tonight” she says “I’ll pick you up in three nights or so.”

“Ok” you say “Anything else?” you say.

“Yeah, keep your comm. on.”

“You said that already” you say.

“I *really* mean it” she says, putting a hand on your shoulder and moving her face close to yours “Now, good hunting.”

You leave and head back to Rainya, who has just finished her salad, you’ll need to grab a bite to eat when you’re out.

“Let’s go shopping” you say to Rainya as the two of you head to late night clothing stores. The two of you know you’re on the clock so you quickly browse several stores. There’re a lot of clothes to choose from and Rainya looks a little lost, finally she assembles an outfit that looks great...if she was 9. The ensemble she has put together is bright, loud and has clashing colours, oh boy do you have work to do here.

You help Rainya tone down her outfit a little, making her look classy rather than...whatever effect she was aiming for before you.

For yourself you buy a classy outfit. You’ve still got plenty of money for drinks from the 500 credits the sergeant gave you.

“We should drop a few things off at home first” you say to Rainya

“That’ll waste like two hours” she says “can’t you just...y’know” she hops a little.

“Not in the Hive” you say

“Alright” she says, shoulders slumped in defeat. The two of you catch the bus back to Dust Town and you each go home to dress before heading out.

Before you change you go to see Lirael, pulling her away from the family she was with briefly.

“What is it Shee?” she asks once you’re in private back at your home. You’re changing, frantically stripping off clothes, already in your underwear.

“I need you to bite me” you say “Before I go out.”

“Why?” asks Lirael

“Just in case I meet some bad vamps” you say.

“Oh no they are not taking you from me!” says Lirael, hugging you tightly “You’re my friend and *my* feeder.” Hah, possessive little brat.

You’ve barely sat down on the bed before Lirael is on you, biting you hard and drawing deeply from you. Immediately you feel a rush of pleasure through you and your eyes close in bliss as you sink backwards, Lirael straddling you and pinning you down as she feeds. Lirael holds you down and feeds desperately, demandingly, ending by pulling her face back her lips and teeth stained with your blood and says “Don’t let anyone have you but me Shee ok? You’re mine!” You’re in no fit state to argue.
>>
When it’s over you get dressed, heal yourself, take Lirael back to the family she’s spending the evening with and head out with Rainya, you feel good, relaxed and happy, and affectionate. You put an arm around Rainya and hug her close as the two of you head to your first club. Your outfits aren’t too formal for dancing, but they’re a clear sign to guys that neither of you are easy prey.

Rainyas dancing skills are non-existent but after an hour or so she’s holding her own. You don’t drink anything alcoholic or intoxicating but instead dance your way around various clubs. There’re no major incidents but some guys can’t keep their hands to themselves and you’re both regularly turning down some very aggressive offers.

It starts to get late and you’re thinking of heading home when you feel a pair of arms wrap around your waist from behind, you turn to tell this jackass to fuck off and you come face-to-face with Kae.

“Shee!” she yells excitedly over the music “I found you” yeah and on the first night, what...?

“C’mon, join us!” she says, waving you to follow. You make sure Rainya is following you and you follow Kae to a table where there’re a number of bottles, and sat in a chair is...Quinn.

Quinn gives you a wink and raises his bottle at you in a toast and smiles.

“With Quinn?” you say to Kae, sounding disgusted “He just gets drunk and ruins everything, seriously, we won’t be having any fun with him around.”

Kae looks over at Quinn in confusion “He’s hardly had anything to drink at all” she says “I’m sure it won’t be a problem.”

“How about another club” you try “Ditch Quinn, come dancing with us again?”

“Oh is Ash with you?” asks Kae as you beckon Rainya over and introduce her and Kae.

“Hi Rainya” says Kae “nice to meet you. Let’s all go out dancing, the four of us!”

Quinn saunters over, undeterred by your hostile look “Hey girls” he says “The more the merrier right Kae?”

“We” you say to him coldly “were just going to another club, just the three of us.”

“Is that right?” Quinn asks Kae.

Kae looks at you all “Quinns been with me for the last two hours” she insists “And he hasn’t drunk much at all, he’ll be fine.”

[King of Hell Approval +1] missed this from last update

The King of Hell offers one of three gifts:

Charisma of the King of Hell 2: As above, this level allows you to summon a crown of green flames that augments mind-controlling powers. It also increases the bonus to leadership/persuasion from this power.

Horrifying Gaze: You can stare into people’s eyes and induce visions of a horrifying, nightmarish place, perhaps a literal nightmare or the lands of the dead, or the dwellings of demons, terrifies and demoralises target. Does not have further levels.

I'd recommend against Charisma 2 since we could get it for XP. Getting a second rank instead of a new gift is a bit of a short-term strategy.

Question, how much do Gifts cost to level up? 5/degree or something else? Is it variable? If so, how much for Charisma?

Between Gaze and Durability, I'd probably go with Gaze.

Gaze requires no investment of further XP/Gifts, has no physical mutations and provides a fairly useful power to us.

For Durability, see >>37220635. It's useful, but we have alternate powers we could spend our XP on for a similar effect.

>>37225197

The heat in your body settles into your eyes and you blink momentarily until the stringing sensation fades.

[Horrifying Gaze gained]

“I was just joking around” says Quinn casually “Did I actually bite you?”

“No” you say “But you did get arrested for trying if I recall.”

“Yes I did” says Quinn, his eyes glinting dangerously as Rainya and Kae watch the exchange “And I had a very uncomfortable conversation with my father over that so it won’t be happening again.”

“You’re right” you say “It won’t, because I’m not giving you another chance at me.”

Quinn laughs and says to Kae “Listen luv, Shee and I need to have a quick chat, resolve our differences, do me a favour would you and...” looks at Rainya “this lovely young thing just have a seat for two minutes, Shee and I are gonna stay right here where you can see us – no funny business – and talk. I’ll convince her to calm down, you’ll see.”

“Alright I guess” says Kae, heading for the table with backwards looks as Rainya shoots you a worried look.

There’s nothing Quinn can say that will convince you, but what’s his game? If he attacks you where Kae can see then that’s it, he’s gone. If you push it without evidence of bad behaviour from him, will Kae choose Quinn over you? Apparently they’ve spent the last 2 hours together and he hasn’t been his usual asshole self...What is going on?

“Sure” you say, adding to Rainya “Go sit with Kae, this won’t take a moment.”

You walk towards Quinn, he grins and says “So about that cop bitch you’re- fuuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!” He screams and stumbles backwards as you unleash your newest Gift on him. He bumps into other dancers and falls over, staring at you in fear and horror.

“Quinn!” yells Kae, jumping out of her seat and rushing to his side. She picks him up and as you try to look innocent says “I’m noble fae you idiot, I can see magic. Tell whichever demon you trafficked your soul to that he picked a really dumb mortal!”

“He was going to use some sort of vampire power on my mind!” you protest “I just got him before he could get me!”

Kae just glares at you as she supports Quinn, holding him easily one handed. Quinn just shakes his head as if trying to clear it, when he looks at you his eyes are full of fear.

Kae turns to walk away, taking Quinn with her. Rainya rushes to your side.

Damn.

You rush after Kae and Quinn, Rainya at your side. As you draw level with Kae you plead your case “Look Quinn has attacked me before, I had no reason to believe he wasn’t going to do so again and so I struck fir-hrgllkkk!”

Kae grabs you by the throat and lifts you effortlessly off the floor in one hand. Around you the dancers stop at the strange sight – a young girl with a guy supported with one arm as she lifts another into the air one-handed.

“And yet you attacked him before he did anything” says Kae “And with a power I’ve only heard about.” She turns you this way and that as you desperately try to breathe “What are you? Can I truly trust you I wonder? Are you willing to open your mind to me so I can see the truth? Or are you another false friend?”

Rainya stops an arm-length away looking scared.

How do you respond?

>>37226491

I don't really give a damn about being an informant. And its not like we couldn't easily be a double agent. Which is what I figured we'd do. Get "info" from her and then feed the cop whatever she wants us to.

It doesn't matter there is no way we will convince her. Letting her read our mind and being honest was the only way we were going to get out of this.

You choke out a few words, trying to think o something, anything to salvage this “I was scared, this is a new power I can’t fully control ye-” With a snort of disgust Kae flings you away, briefly you wonder if you should teleport and then you fly through a chair, a table, some other things and then you hit the wall, blackness takes you.

You wake up, you’re being carried by someone, two someone’s. You open your eyes...both of them are Rainya, good thing you bought back-up...you lose consciousness again.

To be completly honest.
I don't terribly mind dropping this subplot and going back to psychic rebel things.
Just a shame for the character we lose contact to, I guess. But this was a whole string of fuck ups. First we let ourselves get roped into directly interacting with Quinn, instead of ignoring him and keep insisting on kae following us or meeting another day.
Then the refusal to let her read our mind, despite that being the best chance we had.
>>
>>37226877
....are you retarded?

She didn't murder us, we were insanely stupid. Used powers on someone she seemed to like then pathetically tried to bullshit our way out of it and so she threw us dismissively.

Our options were clearly, let me read your mind so I know that I can trust you, and you don't I know you are lying, OR blabber at her ignoring her request and have her believe we are a false friend.

Everything she did made perfect fucking sense.
>>
>>37226978
>let me read your mind so I know that I can trust you, and you don't I know you are lying
I agree that was the bet option.

But she was perfectly willing to kill us out-of-hand after we didn't instantly agree to letting her read our mind while she chokes us.
If we wouldn't have had toughness, we would be dead now. She was willing to murder us, because we overreacted non-lethally against her boy-toy.

“We need to go after them” you say to Rainya and you struggle onwards despite your body feeling like one giant bruise. Rainya supports you and the two of you head through the Hive “How long was I out?”

“I dunno” says Rainya “Two minutes, three?” you look around, you’re not far from the club you were last in.

You open your comlink and call the Sergeant “Got a situation here” you say as she picks up saying “Sergeant Yonsul.”

“Ok” she adds “Talk to me.”

“The girl made off with Quinn” you say “I’m trying to find her.”

There’s a pause then “Repeat that.”

“She left.” You say “With Quinn. I’m going after them.”

“Negative” says the Sergeant “I’m coming to get you, wait there.”

“How do you know where I am?” you say.

“You’re carrying the commlink I gave you” she says, ah, tracker, dammit. You feel the urge to throw the comm away. You and Rainya wait until the Sergeant and Zasky pull up in their car “Get in” says Sergeant Yonsul “We need to talk”

Groaning you get in with Rainya, you are not relishing this conversation...

>>37227065
She's also a Fae and we just demonstrated demonic magic right in front of her.
For a stupid reason too. I mean, Pally literally just wrote how Quinn would never attack us in front of Kae because then she'd side with us. What part of us attacking him was going to go over well?
>>
>>37226877
>Except for being a raging hyprocrite willing to murder us for no particular reason.
She was literally none of those things.

She was mad because her 'friend' turned out to be a demon worshiper and attacked her other friend, so justifiable anger.

She wasn't a hypocrite, since, unlike her, we (supposedly) chose to have these powers and then tried to pass blame to the victim and the power being new, repeatedly. Our powers are also from a source that's worse than the Fae (as far as she knows), so there's that. Demons are not nice people.

She was willing to murder us, but as far as she knew, we were a violent demon worshiper, not exactly someone you should spare.

>>37227096
You probably should be.

I see no way how we would know what Quinn knows. And since we have never met a fae before, Shee also couldn't know if she can see vampire powers.
>>
>>37227317
>>No, even if she knew it was just going to inflict grieveous bodily harm, it was still way out of line.
No, it really wasn't. No more than what we did, at any rate. From an outsider's standpoint.

>I see no way how we would know what Quinn knows. And since we have never met a fae before, Shee also couldn't know if she can see vampire powers.
Not the part I meant. We haven't, but it's possible Ash has and might've mentioned it at one point when they were younger and mentioned that they can/can't see vampire powers. Or that it's just common knowledge Fae can see all forms of supernatural power, including vamps.
>>
So we're an idiot and so is Kae because Quinn seems super duper nice!
>>
>players making fucking retarded decisions

I don't know why you are being such a bunch of whiners about this.
The uphill fight is still way more fun then the success, and frankly, it would have brought us into trouble either way. Talking to Quinn would have, trying to ignore Quinn would have.
People whined just as much how we are "never" going to get back into Rainyas good graces.
This is the same, just more difficult because we need to balance Kae and Yonsul.

Kae may have had some sympathy for mortals or what have you but apparently not because if Shee hadn't been tough she'd be dead.
>>
>>37227386
Its literally the same thing, which is what makes her a hypocrite.
Because she pretends what we did was terrible, but she does something similar, for far less valid reasons.
He directly admitted he tried to bite us against our will. So we HAD a reason to be wary of him attacking us, while she has no such excuse.
>>
>>37227419
No. She justifies it as we attacked Quin first. Meaning if she had refused she couldn't be sure that we'd just attack her with the Gaze we used on Quin. Turns out firing first has diplomatic consequences.

If you push it without evidence of bad behaviour from him, will Kae choose Quinn over you? Apparently they’ve spent the last 2 hours together and he hasn’t been his usual asshole self...What is going on?

You made a stupid choice.

>You made a stupid choice.
No, I made the less stupid out of two choices, because the smart choice had no chance of winning by the time I voted.

Probably disgust at us for being such a terrible human being, selling our soul to demons and attacking anyone we perceive as a possible threat for no actual reason.

>>37227515
She left under the impression we'd be talking and probably took us sending our friend to the table with her as confirmation of that.

Talking to him could easily have been the better move, as could letting him accompany us, you aren't the QM, so stop talking like you know shit.

This is literally turning into diplomacy v. intimidate again. Why is this playerbase so unable to admit when a mistake was made?

>>37227140
Hey, if you're still present, would you mind revealing precisely what Charisma 2-4 would grant us since it's not currently in the rules? Also the 2nd degree of Blood Control, please.

>Talking to him could easily have been the better move, as could letting him accompany us, you aren't the QM, so stop talking like you know shit.
Not sure why you keep pretending it was the worst choice then. Are you the QM to know the other two couldn't have ended worse?
Stop with that bullshit of doing the exact same things you accuse someone else of.

>Straw men arguments make me think I sound smart!
I just don't care about kae, so I'm not planning on wasting any more effort on her.
>>
>>37227672
I never said they were, I said they could've been, we don't know.

You can't say you made the less stupid choice because you don't know, none of us do.
>>
>>37227641
>Why is this playerbase so unable to admit when a mistake was made?
Its not about it having been a mistake. Its about the other voters pretending their choice would have necessarily been better with no evidence for that whatsoever.
Maybe talking to Quinn would have led to us failing a willpower roll to him mindfucking us? And then we'd be having the same disucssion in reverse.
The only truly bad choice was not letting her read our mind, because we had nothing to win from choosing otherwise.
And even that we can only heavily assume.

Who knows, maybe we stand at the end of this better than without having made this "mistake", stop assuming you know how everything will work out.
Not choosing intimidate led us to a pretty good point in the end. Who knows if we would have been as well off if we would have gone with that?

Just take the quest as it runs and stop your empty bitching. Think about how we can fix this instead.
>>
>>37227739
And you say we made a stupid choice. How do you know? .
Its not even anywhere near over.
>>
>>37227672
>>37227515
We know attacking was the worst option after seeing it happen. You can't really justify it being better than anything.
>>
>>37227817
>We know attacking was the worst option after seeing it happen.
No we don't unless we knew what the immediate and longterm consequences of all choices are, we have no idea if the others would have ended up better or not.
