The low hum of the transport ships engine seems to reverberate through the whole of the vessel. Silence dominates as the desolate red desert of Korriban whirls past. In the distance you can see it, looming over the landscape, a black colossus that beckoned you to gaze upon it if only so it could swallow you whole. The Sith Academy. Soon enough you would arrive, and take the first of many steps on the road to standing among some of the most powerful and feared souls in the galaxy. You tremble slightly, though you cannot not say if it is due to fear or excitement, and you are not entirely certain you want to know.

While caught in your own internal musings you fail to notice that the individual sitting next to you has been trying to discreetly garner your attention, likely for fear of disturbing the oppressive silence. Finally after the third attempt to silently grab your attention they seem to find their voice.

"Pardon me..."

Hello, and welcome to Sith Apprentice Quest!

The rules for the time being are quite simple, the first answer with five (or possibly less depending on the popularity of the thread will be taken as the chosen answer. In the future I may add a character sheet once certain decisions, paths and the like have been decided upon, however for the sake of simplicity for the moment we will be starting with a blank slate.

If any questions are asked ooc, they will be answered beneath a dashed line as is noted here.

"Pardon me... sir?"

Your eyes dart over to the source of the voice and you see a young human woman sitting next to you. You had hardly noticed her before, but now that you have you scrutinize her carefully. Her hair is short and brown, cut into a stylish bob. The concerned look in her eyes causes you to raise a brow.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to bother you... it's just you have the window seat and I was wondering how close we are to the academy?"

You inform her that your best guess would have you arriving in about fifteen minutes.

Her concern turns into slight panic despite her best efforts to hide it. Weakness is a dangerous thing to show here, and you wonder how this young woman will fare in the months to come seeing how nervous she seemed. It seems she realizes how obvious she had made her discomfort and makes a point of lowering her gaze.

"Sorry... this atmosphere has me a bit on edge, I've forgotten my manners. My name is Nivah. Do you mind if I ask yours?"

"My name is Xanth."

Nivah smiles slightly.

"That's a good name for a Sith. Sounds very intimidating."

As she speaks you notice that some of the other passengers have been giving you two cautionary glances and starting small conversations of their own. The oppressive atmosphere has lessened, even if only a bit. You wonder if perhaps this is the last time many of the people on board will be able to carry casual conversations with one another. Nivah seems relieved that she's no longer the only one talking.

"It's a bit surreal isn't it? Well maybe not for you, but some of the people on here were nobodies before this, like me. I grew up on a farm on a planet that doesn't show up on most maps, and now I'm here."

You wonder if she is telling you this because she wants to get to know you or if she is simply trying to let out bottled up emotion. Regardless of the answer you decide listening to her is better than staring at the window.

"What about you? Who were you before you were scouted for the Academy?"

>What is your background

>Slave
As a former slave you are well accustomed to arduous labor and as a result will have more endurance and a higher pain threshold than your fellow apprentices. You may however be looked down upon as a result of your lowly origins. You may also seem uncultured as your position as a slave will have left you lacking in what others may consider common knowledge.

>City Dweller
You have lived your life surrounded by a bustling metropolis, of Kass City. You are street wise and silver tongued giving you a natural cunning. While this has not inherent drawbacks socially you are unaccustomed to physical labor and adverse climates.

>Son of the Sith
Your mother and father are both Sith Lords, making you practically nobility. Your name carries weight, and the influnce of your parents follows you. Other Sith will respect you, however your name will also bring with it rivalries and hatred of others.

"I was a slave. I spent most of my life in a mine until about a week ago."

Nivah quickly grows flustered. It seems she wants to apologize for even asking, however she has trouble even finding the voice to do so.

You give her a small but devious smile.

"Don't worry about it. We'll show the masters what nobodies like us can do"

Nivah seems calmed and gives you an optimistic nod. It seems for the moment that you have managed to calm her frayed nerves, which is likely for the best as the transport ship has begun circling the Academy preparing to land. The slow hiss of landing gear lowering quickly cut all chatter to an abrupt halt. The voice of the pilot came over the com and informs you that you are to remain seated until Master Korr provides furter instruction. The boarding hatch opens with a slow whir and you can see a large figure board the ship.

The broad shouldered pureblood sith entered the room slowly, regarding you and all the other apprentices the same way you imagine that you might regard a microbe. His gaze seemed to violate you as he determined your worth a glance

"You are to exit the ship. You will be given further instructions outside. Do not make me wait."

Nivah quickly scampers to her feets and mulls out with the rest of the crowd. As you stand and walk into the hallway you feel a shove on your shoulder.

"Watch it..."

"Watch it slave."

The harsh shove forces you back a step however you manage to stand your ground. Your eye implant whirs and clicks as you turn your gaze toward your assailant. A lean but clearly muscular human man adresses you with a sneer on his lips and death in his eyes.

"That's right, I heard your conversation with that little nerfherder. You're blessed to even stand in the same room as those of us who deserve to be here."

You can feel a rush of fire course through your body. You had endured treatment like this for as long as you can remember. You had been told that coming to this academy would earn you respect and while you had known such fantasies for what they were you can not help but feel indignant at this man. Based on his demeanor you assume he is the son of someone important. Part of you questions the wisdom of getting on this man's bad side where as the other part is sick and god damned tired of being treated like dirt.

"Perhaps I was not clear. Move."

You regard this new face for a few moments, weighing the pros and cons of the decision you are about to make. On the one hand, you are going to have no shortage of enemies no matter what it is you do in the coming months. Getting a head start will do you no favors. After some internal debate however, you decide that you couldn't be bothered to give a damn. In a blur of movement you rush foreward and swing your fist with a force that has been tempered by a lifetime of servitude. Fist meets face with a satisfying crunch, sending whoever the hell this young man is reeling backward toward some of the other apprentices. They choose to give both him and you a wide berth as he falls to the ground with a dull thump. Whispers and gazes seem all focused on you seem to fill the room. Your right hand is now sore but you struggle to find another event in your life as satisfying as this one. You go down on your haunches so you're close to his level despite his daze and the fact that his nose is bleeding profusely he seems to be conscious.

"Be sure not to keep Master Korr waiting."

You stand quickly and make your way off the ship with a grin on your face.

The roaring sun and the mull of conversation of what has just happened greets you as you leave the ship. It seems that word of your actions passed rather quickly. Master Korr's gaze lingers upon you for a moment. You sense something more in that gaze then when it met yours on the ship. You have a hard time reading him however, and as far as you can tell it could be anything from disappointment to respect, or perhaps indigestion.

Nivah quickly scurries over to you looking awed.

"What happened? I heard you punched somebody!"

You give Nivah an curious look as she approaches you and feign confusion at her question.

"I have no idea what they're talking about. The guy behind me hit his head on something and just kind of fell backwards."

Nivah purses her lips and gazes up at you, it seems that she's trying to determine if you are lying to her but after a moment she merely shrugs and turns back toward Master Korr. A few moments of apprentices shuffling out of the transport pass and you see two of them helping the man who had shoved you off the ship and into the Academy for what you can only infer to be medical attention. You try your hardest not to smile and barely succeed.

Behind Master Korr stand three other individuals, all gaunt and intimidating

"I am master Korr, I shall be overseeing your training underneath the three Masters that you see behind me. So far as your worthiness as a potential Sith is concerned I have the final say. The next several months your lives will be dedicated to making be believe you are worth the space that you inhabit. From here your Masters will be collecting you and directing you to your living quarters, after which you will be given your first vibroblade and you shall rejoin your peers here."

Immediately the three Masters started calling out names, and after a few moments you hear your name being callen by a scarred and rough looking Zabrak with a large scar going from the bridge of his nose through his lips and to his chin. Quickly you report to your new Master.

"I am Master Jorrak, and as of this moment you are under my command."

He quickly looks you up and down.

"Tell me, did you really punch Lord Kambran's boy?"

Why stab her? She seems the naturally submissive type, perfect underling material. >>
>>37299348
>I think we should talk about nivah. Its very un-sith-ly to be nice friends with her. I think we should stab her.

Most likely options based on what I've seen of her so far.

Option 1. She's to weak to stand on her own and we use her as a minion.

Option 2. She finds use as a disposable asset to advance us.

Option 3. She's no use at all. We ignore her, she'll probably die off screen and be forgotten.

This might change if she gets character development or something.

Option 1, for now. We need loyal supporters for when we take over this joint.

This. Option 4 should be our way of life now.
>>
>>37299685

"Punch is a strong word. I just greeted him. Physically."

Master Jorrak cracks a small smile at the sheer audacity of what you just said.

"Hmph, you have the spine of a Sith if nothing else. I see here that before you were chosen you were a slave. I'm going to assume that would be the reason behind your 'greeting'. I will not admonish you for your behavior, however as your Master allow me to give you some advie. That boy has very powerful friends and family. I would suggest now that you are his enemy you put an end to his ambitions as quickly as possible. If you do not he will prove to be a difficult adversary."

You're caught a bit off guard by how forward Master Jorrak is with you, and you can't help but feel a bit grateful that your new Master is at least a bit lax.

"Stand with the others while I finish gathering the rest of the dregs."

You do as you are told and mill silently with your peers. Most of the faces are forgettable, however you notice Nivah seems to also be under Master Jorrak. She beams up at you as you walk over to her, bouncing a bit as she walks.

"I was a bit worried about which Master I would be under, but Master Jorrak seems to be the least scary of the three, plus we have the same Master! Speaking of which what were you speaking to Master Jorrak about?"

"I was just explaining to him that I didn't punch anybody, rumors travel fast. So have you heard anything about our living arangements yet?"

Nivah nods before explaining.

"We're being broken up by Master and gender, so all of the men under Master Jorrak will be sleeping in a dorm together and so on, but we get our own beds and a trunk to store our things."

Honestly the idea of having a bed all to your own is a bit alien to you, considering in the past the best you got was a pile of rags and whatever soft vegetation could be found in your mine. While you wait you begin mulling over your new 'friend'. You're unsure of what to make of Nivah. She could be either an asset or a nuisance depending on if she truly is as frail as she is letting on. It is also entirely possible that it's all a ruse and you come to the grim determination that as of now every one of your peers needs to be considered a threat until proven otherwise, including Nivah. You decide to let things play out for the moment but keep your guard up.

Some time passes and all of the apprentices have gathered under their respective Masters. Master Jorrak gathers you and your peers and proceeds onward. It seems that your group is missing one of the male Apprentices and it's not hard to determine who it might be. Your Master proceeds to explain things that you already know thanks to Nivah and you promptly arrive to your groups two dorms.

"Take a moment to find your beds, check your trunks. Inside each will be six sets of clothing. Those and the clothes you are wearing now will be your day to day clothes. Inside you will also find your vibroblade. As far as you are concerned this weapon is now the most important things is your lives. Meet back at the entrance of the Academy in an hour."

Just going to address this really quickly. It's not necessary for only one Apprentice to survive under each master. It is however incredibly common. There are circumstances where more then one apprentice can survive, depending on what decisions are made and how you influence your peers. I'm sticking pretty closely to canon however I will work around smaller canonical things it if I feel like it will make a more compelling story.
>>
>>37300331

You quicly make your way to the bunk with your name on it and open the trunk at the foot of the bed. Within you see your vibroblade, probably the first real possession that wasn't clothing that you've ever had. You grasp it gingerly and raise it, trying to get a feel for the weight of it. You give it a good couple of swings, being careful not to strike anyone or anything on accident. Many of the others follow suit with varying degrees of competence. It becomes clear some of these men have at least some training with such weapons and you make note of the faces who posses such skills.

After a moment you decide to give the whole mystic crap you're always hearing about the force a shot and sit down on your bunk. You rest your blade on your palms after sitting cross legged and begin breathing slowly. You contemplate the rage you felt at the young man who shoved you, you focus on ther rage, the fire that coursed through you and the desire to see your will done and crush those who would stand in your way. You break from your trance only when you hear your peers begin to leave the room. You stand quickly and follow.

Your peers have collected at the entrance and Nivah quickly spots you and makes her way over to you, she appears to be rather on edge.

"I hear that we're going to have sparring matches to see how well everyone can fight. I've never held a blade in my life oh I knew this was going to go badly."

Luckily as Nivah is having her mental break down you hear Master Jorrak bard your name and you make your way over to him. He gives you a glance to ensure that you are the one that has approached him before speaking.

"Yours will be the second match. You were a slave so we really don't have anything to gauge your ability to fight with, so we're going to pair you with some shit shoveler named Keegan and see how you do. If you're good you'll be paired with a more worthy opponent. Prepare yourself, I'll call you again when you're up."

You nod and turn to find that Nivah has been trying her best not to cling to you but failing rather miserably.

"Xanth what should I do?"

With a slow breath you give her a hard look before speaking.

"Nivah, if you want to survive from now on you are going to need to find your spine. Never strike first. Wait for your foe to swing, then attack their wrist. Feign injury and drop low, when they approach to strike, lash out at their knee or ankle. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose. You're here to learn to be a Sith. Get used to fighting."

Nivah's eyes go wide at your curt tone, but nods at your advice. Her gaze seems a bit absent as she looks away. You get the feeling that what you have said to her seems to have effected her more profoundly then you might have guessed. Her name is called and she walks slowly over to Master Jorrak.

A slight disturbance near the outer part of the gathering grabs your attention as you hear a voice rise above the crowd.

"Where is that miserable little pissant I'll wear his teeth as a necklace after I pry them from his broken face."

You recognize the voice immediately and it is quickly coming near you.

You take a moment, take a deep breath, and put on the best neutral face you can muster. Right now as far as you are concerned you have no idea who this kid is. It doesn't take long after that for him to spot you, his eyes wide with fury as two pads have been place in his nostrils to absorb blood. You decide that it looks funny but manage not to crack a smile.

"YOU. I WILL HAVE YOU BROKEN FOR MY AMUSEMENT BEFORE-"

"Rodrik."

Master Jorrak's voice managed to cut through the man's blustering like a knife. There was a weight held in that voice that you had not heard until now. It sounded much more like the voice you imagined your instructor possessing.

"Despite your claims so far nobody has so far confirmed that you were struck by Xanth, and he himself denies even knowing you. Isn't that correct Xanth?"

You nod.

"I have never seen you before in my life."

His face turns red with rage and a few of the other apprentices next to you give you a small nod, you recognize them as the individuals who saw your confrontation. Apparently they chose to keep what they saw to themselves.

"Xanth, you're up."

The edge left Master Jorrak's voice however you can feel his eyes upon you. It's likely that you won't receive his word to protect you the next time Rodrik comes knocking for your head.

You come into the circle and see your opponent. Big is the first word that comes to mind when you see him. A massive Twi'lek looks down at you, however despite his size there is an awkwardness to his stance, he does not seem comfortable in his own body. His Master, a lithe Rattataki woman stand behind him giving him curt instructions. You turn to Master Jorrak to see if he has anything to say.

"Break him.

Words of wisdom.

The match begins with a whistle and you activate your vibrosword.

I appreciate the easy start but is there a reason we are rolling 6 dice? Three is the usual standard, with crits being as good or bad as the DM decides.
>>
>>37301702
Just steal Soma's dice system. That's what all the other hip new QMs are doing.
>>
>>37301702
Just use the first 3 d6. D100 are terrible on /tg/

Once again new QM I was kind of on the fence between wanting more people to feel like they're participating and using dice math I am comfortable with. I'll correct it.

Alright, I'll go with this unless I come up with something better, thanks.

Best of the first 3d10 rolls. It has a real nice statistical distribution.

Your blade slashes against his arm with a powerful cut. Your opponent howls out in a mixture of pain and rage before bringing his blade to bare against you. His blade meets yours in a clash of electricity and you find yourself being overpowered. While you are strong in your own right this Twi'lek has genetics on his side and if you do not act quickly you will find yourself thrown to the ground.

>What do you do?

>Kick him in the balls, or whatever Twi'lek's have

In a single movement you duck under his blade and force him to fall forward, his own weight betraying him and leaving him sprawled on the ground with his blade thrown out of reach. The match is clearly over as your opponent is defenseless, however until one party surrenders the match will continue until one of you is crippled and your opponent either has no intention of surrender or is to dazed to realize what is happening.

Meticulously you pick up your opponents blade as he tries to regain his senses, and with one in each hand facing downward you gaze out into the crowd. Looks of indifference, panic and disgust greet you as you take a moment to contemplate the sheer savagery of what you are about to do. You smile.

In a swift brutal motion you plunge both of the blades down into the back of your opponent's knees. His scream of terror and pain sounds more animal then like anything you figured this Twi'lek could make. He begins sobbing in agony as you look out and find Rodrik. You stare him dead in the eyes for a solid minute until you wretch the blades from your opponent's broken legs, blood being shaken away by the vibrations of the blades. You see Nivah looking out to you but her expression is vacant, but you can swear you see tears welling in her eyes.

"The match goes to Xanth."

Master Jorrak announces, a dark smirk gracing his lips as he motions you toward him. The Twi'lek's cries turn to pathetic whimpers as three apprentices help carry him onto a board to which they can take him to nearby medical facilities.

"I must admit, I did not expect such savagery from your first fight. You will make an excellent warrior."

"I would like to keep the losers blade."

Master Jorrak looks at you for a moment considering what you have said.

"Ordinarily we wait until later in your training to introduce advanced techniques such as the use of dual blades or staff blades, however seeing as you have proved yourself and that poor dreg isn't going to need it anymore you can keep it. Any training done with dual blades will be done on your own time until the advanced training comes.

You nod and smile as you look down at your new weapon. They remind you of the teeth of a terrible predator. Perhaps you will keep that iconography as inspiration for your days to come.

"Master, what would have happened if I had killed him?"

Master Jorrak considers what you've said for a moment before responding.

"There would have been a vote between the three masters on whether or not it was 'intentional' or not. Using live weapons there is always a chance of death, if it is seen as merely a consequence of using live weaponry you would not have been punished. However, had you done it intentionally you would have been... educated. Do not forget, while this is intended to pit you against one another you are all still potentially Sith, and your deaths shall be treated as such."

"Well you wanted me to break him, so I did."

Master Jorrak lets a harsh laugh and nods.

"That I did. Now did you have anything else?"

"Will I be fighting any other opponents today?

Master Jorrak shakes his head.

"No, you've all had long flights and this is meant to determine your starting worth to the Academy. After the rest of the sparring matches you will head to your bunks in preparation for tomorrow's training. Now then, I must call the participants for the next match."

Jorrak dismisses you and you are left to your own devices.
