>>37325131
I don't think so, I just saved what Anon was kind enough to contribute for the recap at the top of this thread.
>>
It took a while for the surviving brethren to take it all in.
They were few now. They had lost most of those they called brother or sister, those who they had hatched with.
And now, the once beautiful reef, home of the bounty of nature that sustained them was slowly dying.
To the north layed the great unknown deep blue. Who know what other monstrosities awaited them there?
West? Spear and the search party that had gone searching for their missing brother had never returned!
For all they know, this thing coome from any of those places, even from the unexplored east.
But what they knew for certain, is that it did not come from the south, where the roof of the water clashed with the floor.
They had not seen much of the place last time they were there, and knew not what awaited them there, but one was for sure:
no giant creature of the depths would await them there.
So they took what little they possesed and set on their journey to the unknown south.
With two injured, so few able bodied and quite frankly, really paranoid of the perils of the journey, it took several days to finaly glimpse from afar the meeting point of the roof of the water and the sand.
They finally arrived. Both the guard that had been knocked unconcious and the brother strangled by the net had recovered, but the latter suffered from a difficulty when moving too fast or for a lot of time, as well as cronic pain.
They had used almost all their food on the journey, and all of their crab poultice on their injured in the trip, but they were finally there.
Being so close to what could very well be the gate to another world gave the group pause, as they gazed at this strange phenomenon of roof and floor joining at the horizon.
Finally, one of the brothers took courage. He grabbed the speartip Courage had used to slay the great evil and remembering his sacrifice, made a small odd shaped notch on the base of the speartip and bowed his head, holding it high.
>>
He gave it to another brother, and emerged from the waters.
The air was rough, dry, uncomfortable and hostile. But it could be breathed. Not with the gills they were so used to, but by taking it in with the mouth, like food, and expelling it. It was exhausting, at least untill he got used to it, but it worked. He then walked, feeling his full weight for the first time in his life and looked at the horizon.

To the north layed the big blue ocean, fromwhere they emerged.
Far Faaaar to the west north west, he spotted a plot of land emerging from the blue.
To the south, and as far as the eye could see, there was a great yellow glow. When his eyes adjusted to the sun, he could tell it was sand. Sand and rough, dry rock as far as the eye could see. Some kind of weird green coral made its home in the sand. He took a piece.
To the east, The sand gave way to the tallest, hughest group of rocks he had ever seen, that stretched for as far as he could see. He thought he saw white rock at the top of the very tallest, but he wasn't sure.

Having seen all of those wonders, he returned to tell the tale to his brethren.

How did they react? what did they decide to do?

Wait, we found houses?
>>
>>37325290
we turn this area around us into a fucking fortress.

We go full hunter gatherer and replenish as much as we can before night comes. The coastal water will be our home for now.

>>37325290
South and East are suicide. We should settle NW.

>>37325293

>>
>>37325293
No, the roof of the water is just the surface, but since you never bottered to surface, it's like the roof of the world to you right now.

It's just shitty prose gone horrible, horribly wrong.
>>
>>37325336
Hm, fortifying here is a good idea too, but it may be hard to expand into anything sustainable.
>>
>>37325290
Full fortification yes, but first w need to convince the folks to go dry land. The explorer go back in the water with the plant he just gatherd and ask the others to join him. They search for crabs and stuff in the shallows and for berries and stuff in the NEAR areas.
>>
Discuss, discuss, little fishies.
So many options, so mant options...

>>

we stay where we are and gather as much shit as we can. the food is plentiful and the terrain allows it , we turn this area into our new home and fortress.

Nah, he's already completed, I just need backstory (which this thread is providing).

His name is Irian Mullow, Rogue Smuggler for some coastal cities. He collects fees to transport illicit goods covertly through waterways, and sends everything he doesn't use to live back home to his village.
>>
Finding themselves low on food, the survivors scavenged in the shallows and the beach. The yield was a lot lower than at the old reef, of course, but the nets with rocks in particular proved effective in catching coastal fishes, and the nearby shallows did have a decent amount of crabs.
However try as they might, they were unable to find, the kind of crab they had previously used for healing injuries, and the poultice they had brought with them had ran out.
All in all, the hunt was not bad, but could have gone better.
(+2 turns of food)(+2 bone speartips, +3 wooden poles)

The sand itself was filled with assorted trash: bleached bones of small feathered animals, pieces of driftwood, rocks...
And a fist sized, silver shiny item. None had seen anything like it. It had ingraved symbols (pic related).
Along you journey, one of the females had slowly developed some skill in carving assorted items, and came upong the idea of somehow recording what had happened with Courage in some bone objects she carried. After commenting the idea, she started carving a peculiar drawing signifying that event. The rest had adopted the idea, and now had a symbol to look upon, to always remember Courage's sacrifice.
This had some resemblance, but the symbols in it were not known to any of them.
(+1 runed metal disk)

When they all got together at the designed meeting spot to dump their finds, they found something they certainly weren't expecting: the missing brother.

mmmm.
>>37325950
oh you could try, sure

>>37325957
Right, the explorer that first emerged from the waters is Dry'ak.

Much rejoice was had the very second the missing brother returned, very soonly followed by instatiable curiosity.
"What happened to you?" Was the obvious question on everyone's lips.
"I saw the blue, the blue saw me. We sang, brothers, we sang. It lulled me into sweet sleep. I awoke, I spoke to it, and it awnsered. It doesn't always awnsers. But it led me here, to you."
"I heard the cries of its son, it cried in joy, then in pain. Then it didn't cry more. But the Blue forgave, because we're it's children, and It loves us, brothers"
After saying this, he crouches, submerges his hands, ands pulls from the water a large crab, the kind that can be used in poultices and wounds.
Given that everyone searched the beach very thorougly for even one of those, this amazes the present brethren.

What more do they ask to The Missing Brother?

>What has become of Spear and his group? Are they alive?

The missing brother responds: "I do not know, i will ask the Blue"
He closes his eyes, and lowers his head. He kneels and lays his palms on the water surface.
Small riples emerge as if his whole body was shaking.
Then, the surface becomes still. Very still. Too still.
Then, riples form and go towards his body. Then still again.
Finally, the water's surface returns to normal, and he stands up.
His eyes now have a ver faint cyan glow.

"Spear draws air. Gills dry. Body heavy. Scales dry. Then water splashes. Spear moves, not much. Little room." He grabs a wooden pole. "Surrounded by this. Some scales broken. Dull pain. Still have spear. Spear red. Dripping."
He frowns. "The blue says no more".

>You describe to him the beast you fought and Courage slayed. You ask if this was the Blue's son.
"Yes. There are many like him, but smaller. Tasty. He was the greatest. The oldest. And yet, simple. Like a hatchling."
"He grabbed things. Liked to touch things. But he was large, large and strong. he broke things."
"The Blue was sad to see him die."

After speaking to him, you decided this place may very well be the one that holds your future.
Being the most well used to breathing air, and holding his own weight as well as displaying great bravery in exploring the unknown for the first time, Dry'ak was hence forth known as the Discoverer of Air, And the female carver granted him a symbol of his own engraved in a shell wich he wore as a necklace since then.
His symbol was then added to Courage's speartip.

[continues]
>>
Lets hope the fort gets built quikly
>>
>>37326685
While this new place seemed secure enough, the great ocean of sand and rock to the south still was an unknown and possible hostile land. To defend themselves from the perils of this land, the survivors began to plan for the construction of a lair: Part underwater, to accomodate for better breathing and maybe some day a hatchery and part above water, to escape any possible threat from the depths. They planed to begin moving big amounts of rock and sand, and create a partially fenced in body of water, and surround it with walls of rock.
Being very few, and with one of them driven lame, the task was daunting, and would take a lot of time to accomplish.
They asked the missing brother if the Blue had some wisdom to share, but he said it didn't awnser his call.

>>37326889
>>37326885
Agred. Isobro talk to Blue for Spear. Other builg and fuck. Minimum on food
>>
>>37326905
>>37326889
Agreed, understanding that we lay eggs.
>>
>>37326900
Let's fertilize some eggs before we potentially lose half our males then.
>>
>>37326900
So you cum on eggs in the water... Looks like /b... Only no pics please
>>
>>37326917
Ok cool, that makes sense. Would incest fuck us over if we can't find other merpeople?
>>
>>37326922
I'm pretty sure i can find you some vids bro.

Here you go.

What? expected some fucked up smut?

>>37326933
In the long term, your gene pool has become rather limited right now, you can worry about that a few generations down the road.
>>
>>37326737
I think spear actually got picked up by a boat or something. No room to move might infer he's in a net or a cage of some sort. I'd say send someone back to the old home to leave a message for him if he does return, but other than that just keep building.
>>
>>37326941
Here you go.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HMp-GXjHtg
>>
So let's fertilize some eggs, and build this fucking fort.
>>
>>37326933
With four men and three women, the next generation can have up to 12 different parent-pairs. Each of those pairs would be able to mate with 6 of the other pairs with 0 inbreeding. So we're good for at least the next two generations.
>>
Rolled 63 (1d100)

Ok, you will spend your time building.
I will roll to see how many turns you advance without interruption.
(5 to complete the bay, 10 to ocmplete the wall)
No sense in writing 10 completely uneventful updates.

btw: eggs hatch in 2 turns, and takes another turn to get a fully grown up merfolk.
May revise the times needed if it suits the game.
>>
>>37326973
well its a start, but damn we need to find more merpeople fast. or find out that were very compatible with land dwelling creatures.
>>
>>37326973
Awesome let's do it
>>
Rolled 1, 4, 2 = 7 (3d5)

rolling to see how many fertilized eggs are layed by your 3 females
>>
>>37326980
cool, better than normal.
>>
>>37326980
Not too bad..! There might be hope for us yet.
>>
>>37326990
Shit we bread fast!!!
>>
>>37327007
but only half of what it could have been. Still better than what we had to deal with in the last thread.
>>
All right, writing it up, will assume food stays constant for the 6 turns it took.
Also, at the end of these turns, your eggs are now adults.
>>
mmm... this may need some adjustment further down the road.
Maybe rolling d3's instead of d5's.
>>
When the hatchlings are mature, they should ALL stay for development and fortification of our base, while the 4 remaining original men go find Spear.
>>
>>37327016
The next one can be your last OP/GM, we are at a new start, lets restart with half a fort and some more people tomorrow
>>
>>37327007
everyone knows that merfolk are incredibly efficient bakers..
>>
>>37327039
I will have to sit tomorrow's out, I'm in the military and I have post all day.
>>
>>37326973
After doing the first couple generations in my head, I decided to see how far we can go with no inbreeding. This might take a while.
>>
>>37326980.

>btw: eggs hatch in 2 turns, and takes another turn to get a fully grown up merfolk.

Ok, if this is the time we wait, Spear is dead, no way we can find him after waiting for some merefolks to born and be fully grown
.
>>
>>37327048
shit, well we will continue on in your name, or we could take a break till Tuesday.
>>
>>37327066
I have post Tuesday as well, but I have Wed and Thur off. Please, feel free to go on without me.
>>
>>37327066
Agreed, lets skip tomorrow and follow our might OPGM on the bluebird twilt
>>
>>37327056
Assuming our current generation has no familial ties to one another:
The next generation will have no inbreeding.
The generation after that, inbreeding can be avoided pretty easily.
The generation after that, slight inbreeding is inevitable. Every child of that generation will AT LEAST share one great-grandparent with each other child from that generation.
>>
>>37327144
Gross.

Well hopefully we find either more of us, or other compatible mates.
>>
>>37327144
This scenario also assumes polygamy is the social norm. Monogamy would speed up the inbreeding.
>>
After many days of labor, moving and piling rocks, digging and relocating sand in addition to hunting to sustain themselves the survivors had finally managed to finish their enclosed bay. With a modest depth of up to 10mts at the middle, it provided comfortable and relatively secure housing for them and their eggs.
In this time, they could also find the opportunity to breed, now that they were finally somewhat secure. The females laid eggs, from wich 7 hatched and in the time it took them to finish the bay and progress the wall, had become young adults.
5 males and 2 females then joined the surviving brothers.
Finishing the bay, promising security to future eggs and hatchlings was an important day for the carver of symbols, who created a new one, to signify this day. It was inscribed on Courage's speartip.

But work came to a halt one morning, as one of the males acting as sentry spotted a small group of bipedal figures walking east to west far away to the south.
It was strange, but it seemed like parts of a few of them seemed to reflect some of the sunlight.

What do the merfolk do now?

Status: 10 Males (1 damaged gills, Dry'ak, TMB), 5 females.
Characters: Spear, inventor of bone spears. Courage, slayer of the beast. Dry'ak, discoverer of air. Isobro, the Blue

speaker.
Resources: Food for 1 turn, 2 wooden poles, 5 meters of woodrope, 2 speartips, small bone pieces, Courage's speartip.
Equipment: basic tools (stone & bone), 2 smallgame nets, 1 midgame net, 1 bone spear
Tech: strong weedrope, improved nets, bone spears, painkiller crab poultice, crab based desinfection
Stronghold: Small artificial bay.
Misc items: runed disk
In progress:wall (4t)
>>
>>37327167
Given that the mating process is hardly intimate, I think polygamy is acceptable.
>>
>>37327156
Inter species seems better for the gene pool but sticking with merfolks is better i think. We have to be able to communicate with the Blue, that is some merefolks shit
>>
>>37327167
It's pretty much free for all.
Females lay eggs on soil. Males approach and secrete spem.
No "mating" per se. And everyone is family.
Bloodties are pretty much a mystery.
>>
>>37327171
Let us stand ready, but unassuming. They may be peaceful. Send one male as a diplomat.
>>
>>37327171
Get everyone ready for a fight, have the children and the women find safety while the men get armed but don't fire the first shot, diplomacy might be our savior here.
>>
>>37327196
>>37327195
Ah, good.
>>
>>37327195
>>37327196
Diplomacy
>>
Dear aquatic gods, gods of the sky and air, if ever we needed a good roll it's now... please.
>>
>>37327196
Agreed. But maybe bring some shiny pearls or some of our crab medicine as a gift?
>>
>>37327235
No, they may see us as a farm, then.
>>
>>37327235
Nice move here! Agreed

Nonono bad idea...

>>
So most of you are for diplomacy.
Do you bear gifts for the strange figures?
>>
>>37327240
>>37327250
Explain yourself sir
>>
If we send gifts, they might fall to greed and attempt to force us to consistently produce goods for them.
>>
>>37327261
Bring some food and the strange metal disk we found when we got here. Have one of our brighter members attempt to talk with them, everyone is armed but isn't aggressive. bring blue speaker just in case.
>>
>>37327280
I say we send Blue Speaker with a guard and nobody else. No gifts. Prepare defense at base.
>>
>>37327240
Perhaps, but it could also help us secure trade for things that we don't have.
>>
>>37327280
Agreed, bette than the possible farming
>>
>>37327300
>>37327280
Then let us only send the metal disk as a gift.
>>
>>37327280
>>37327312
Agreed. Only metal isc. We have only food for 1 turn anons
>>
>>37327323
Let's do it.

Blue Speaker + Guard
Strange Disk
Diplomacy
Guard the base.
>>
>>37327323
Yes, only the metl disc in case theyre looking for it
We are short on food
>>
If things resume to regular construction duties, i assume your food supply is constant, no surplus and no shortage.
Just to about micromanaging too much.
Btw you could also automatize it by permanently assigning merfolk to do it.
Of course you loose them for other tasks.
>>
>>37327331
Sounds good.
>>
>>37327331
Yes indeed

Very good. Last update for the night, i'm kinda tired now.

After much deliberation, a compromise was reached between those who saw an opportunity, and those who only saw danger.
Isobro the Blue speaker would attempt to dialogue with the beings if such a thing was possible, accompanied with an escort, armed with a bone spear.
Dry'ak volunteered right away, but the rest persuaded him that he could not be risked should things turned violent.
They also agreed that they should present to them the disk with strange markings they had found on the beach. Maybe they knew something about it, who knew?

The blue speaker took water on a shell, joined his guard and headed towards the figures.
The landscape, the dry air and the scorching sun turned out to be brutal on the two brothers, and as time went on, the brother guarding the blue speaekr began suffering an irresistible urge to turn tail and run back to the ocean. The blue speaker stopped him and instructed him to smell the water inside the shell. As the guard did so, Isobro muttered incoherencies and made strange facial expretions. While confusing to the guard, after the blue speaker was done with them, the water in the shell began to smoke. Sniffing this smoke the smell salt and kelp invaded the guard. He found it almost intoxicating and it very quickly calmed his nerves.
It became evident that the figures had spotted them while they where doing this, for when they raised their sight from the shell, the strangers were right in front of them.

"By Khulan's beard! what the blazes are ye and why are ye followin' us?!"
They were seven, they were hairy, they were short, they were covered with metal, and they were pointing their weapons at the Blue speaker.
