You decide to wait as the majority of the apprentices make their way out into the hunting grounds, some forming into small alliance groups, while others strike out alone in their hunts. You make a point of keeping an eye on Rodrik who you see has joined with a large Rattataki man who you recognize as one of the most prominent apprentices under Master Vessa. They speak briefly and mostly with gestures before parting ways and going out into the desert. You notice Cael'la also makes her way out, blowing you a kiss before exiting through the gate. Most of the apprentices have now left, with a few cold footed stragglers biding time before they're made to go in the hard way.

>What do you do?

>Try to track Rodrik, you want to end this little rivalry and if you can catch him while he's fighting a beast it will be all the easier
>Try to find a beast of your own, better get that out of the way first since nothing else will really matter if you're abandoned in the desert
>Try to create a scenario where you will get ambushed so you can bait them into a trap
>We're going krayt dragon hunting

Also Nivah can fend for herself alright now.

Go hunting for a beast, but if we see a perfect opportunity for an ambush, use it.

This is me, had another idea.
Though this may seem macabre. If we are ambushed we should consider taking the heads (or vibroblades or something) of each person we kill, to put off anyone else who'd want to take us out while we're hunting the dragon.

"Nivah, we're going krayt dragon hunting."

Her eyes widen in terror as the words leave your lips.

"B-but I thought you said we were going to wait and see until after we fought the apprentices."

You nod.

"That I did, but I want to at least see if we can find the thing. If we waste too much time looking for it after everything else then we might as well not arrive with a beast head in the first place."

Nivah grimaces.

"Okay... just promise me we won't fight it until after the apprentices. If they attack us while we fight that thing... I don't want you to die."

>What do you say?

>I promise

Exactly brine has said that nivah is above the average of the apprentices here and has only gotten better with our training with her.

Not exactly; he said that she had become above average with our training.

Minor difference.
>>
>>37422608
Which is why we need to be careful and make sure to reinforce that she needs us. Less "we can do it." and more "I can do it." Let's make her idolize us and worship the ground we walk on while simultaneously not recognizing her own power in relation to ours.

"I promise. I am not putting us at risk like that while knowing these idiots are planning to ambush us."

Nivah sighs softly and nods.

You two make your way out into the blistering desert. Ten minutes pass and already you can see apprentices in the distance fighting off predatory beasts of all shapes and sizes. You and Nivah have long since drawn your blades, prepared for a fight at any turn. Your eyes flicker across the sea of sand and you spot Cael'la standing on top of a dune not far away. She nods at you and disappears behind it. Then you hear it. A terrible thundering roar, thundering through the planes like something out of a nightmare. It's distant, you can tell, but the sheer volume of it startles you and Nivah. If there is anything other than a krayt dragon in this desert capable of making a noise like that you feel uncertain that you want to stay in this place any longer than necessary.

Suddenly you hear the sounds of combat over the dune that you saw Cael'la go over, grunts and cries of rage.

>What do you do?

>Cross over the dune and see if Cael'la is alright

"Nivah, circle around the back of the dune while I go in. While Cael'la and I keep them distracted, you flank them from behind and hit them where it hurts."

Nivah looks up at you and nods, making her way around quickly but soundlessly as you make your way up and over the dune, peeking over.

Cael'la is surrounded by eight apprentices, most of them so forgettable you couldn't name them if you tried. They seem too distracted by trying to find an opening in Cael'la's defense to notice you.

Dust kicks up as you launch yourself up and over the dune and several of the apprentices look up at you in horror as you descent next to one of them, blades out. You land into a crouch, and quickly as a viper spring upward and activate your vibroswords lashing out with one of them in an attempt to decapitate the nearest apprentice.

>3 Pass
>Critical Success

Your movements are fluid, like a painter creating art upon his canvas and the nearest apprentices head is soundlessly removed from their body horror etched upon their face as it thumps to the ground with finality as their blood spatters against your face.

For the past week or so barring your fight with the Twi'lek on your first day you've been a new Xanth. A happy, content but cautious man. But in this moment, the man you were inside of that blasted crater, a hardened slave who had to fight for his life has returned. your eyes are filled with a predatory amusement and your lips split into a the same grim you wore as you drove two blades into the legs of a man and crippled him for life. You smell their fear, their faces transform into reflections of the horror that your victim felt. Even Cael'la seems shaken by look on your face.

Distracted by the death of their friend none of the apprentices noticed Nivah creeping behind them, not even you, and the only herald to her arrival is another apprentices scream as her blade plunges into his back, through his lungs. She presses her foot against his back and removes it, allowing his lungs to fill with blood as he grasps at his parted flesh, trying to will it back together.

"I'm afraid you've made quite the mistake."

You say your words rolling of your tongue the way you might speak to a lover.

Nivah is as good as dead, and we'll be the ones to kill her. Fuck, cael'la too probably.

That's always how it works with sith, unless we do some seriously drastic shit. Shit that'll either result in sith Lord quest or sith outcast/refugee quest depending on the success of previously mentioned drastic shit.

Anon, stop. I mean comparing the 15, 14, and 16 to a DC.
>>
>>37425092

>>
>>37424912
There's this funny tendency for sith lords to take away that which their apprentice holds most dearly, and forcing them to do it themselves in some situations for extra effect. Like how some African warlords were said to have forced child soldiers to kill their families or killed them off infront of the child during "recruitment".
>>
>>37424912
>>37425092
Protip: Expect every sith relationship, no matter how friendly, no matter how formal, no matter how intimate, to end in one person killing the other. The Rule of Two just codified it.

As long as she is a sith, we must expect Nivah to betray us. If however we can get her to give up being sith and become our slave instead...

That goes for Cael'la as well. Sideous had lots of force sensitive slaves around, but he only ever had one apprentice.
>>
>>37425098
What? I literally just told you that doesn't have anything to do with it. The product of the 3d10s (15,14,16) has no relevance to passing. One could pretend like it's not even there.

>1 Pass

You attempt to let out a bestial force roar, however you find it too difficult to concentrate on attempting a new force power with all the adrenaline pulsing through your veins, so you simply a let out a regular roar. While it doesn't send anyone flying two of the apprentices break formation and flee in terror at the culmination of everything they'd just seen. Cael'la quickly force jumps and lands in front of them, cutting them off and attempting to dispatch them which leaves four apprentices for you and Nivah to deal with.

One of them, overcome with fight or flight charges you blade held high ready to do to you what you did to his friend.

>What do you do?

>Force jump backward to gain some distance
>Attempt to sidestep the blow and cut his legs out from under him
>Force push him backward so he loses his footing
>Force pull his head downward and cause him to stumble forward, plunging your blades into his back as he falls
>>
>>37425163
What are you saying then?
>>
>>37425160
Alright, here's another one for you then. Nivah is under the same master we are. We can't both graduate to apprentice, and as far as I'm aware the washouts either flee Korriban before they get killed or they die.

If we want to keep Nivah, we'll either have to figure out how to send her away or fake her death.

That's only because of the rule of two.

Also I'd like to say again that plenty of Sith had apprentices/associates that never betrayed them at this point. The Sith Empire was a lot more diverse in personalities than later Sith groups it seems.

Brine did mention "having a hard time focusing".

In the interests of discussion, which non jedi or sith force organization do you want to see appear in this quest?
>>
>>37425606
Czerka Corp.
>>
>>37425606
The order of Revan primarily. Not very many other than just the straight up Sith and Jedi interest me any particular amounts.

Maybe way way way way down the line we could meet a Nightsister?

Except as I'm writing this I realize you mean non-force users too.

Mandalorians. Simple as that.
>>
>>37425606
Jal Shey. They're arguably the third oldest, and most prominent, force organization in star wars, yet they get a tiny amount of screen time. The Jensaarai also have bitching armor, but they don't exist yet.

I am very interested how you come to that result
>>
>>37426430
>>37426443
Other quests give rolls that are 50% with normal probability, so would that make it 30% on /tg/ dice? Either way this definitely isn't hardmode. Not even close.
>>
>>37426477
If we were on easy mode then the majority of our dice rolls would be successes. They aren't as far as I can tell.

>>
>>37426578
You're not retarded, a DC7 iis extremely hard to beat with that system. With that system, a DC6 is hard, a DC7 is extreme, a DC8 is brutal and a DC9 is nearly impossible.

Our d100 rolls have been shitty, and yet we've still failed only 2-3, one of which was in this thread. On the other hand, the only two 3d10 rolls we've ever failed have been in this thread. So, I'd say you need to brush up on your own reading, if you think we're some massive font of failure. Brine even whined that we were supposed to be an underdog yet kept passing all the rolls.

>>37426578
How are you calculating it? And don't listen to >>37426628 because he's the true retard.

Som just didn't know what he was doing. He was using ridiculously high DC's, like 85 or 90. Now that's hard/masochist mode.

>>37426578
I got 8.1% of great success for a DC of 7
and 27% chance of success

I am also out of practice with math so I might be wrong.

You could always do a shoutout to that one anon who calculated the probabilities for your current one. He seemed to know his shit, and could probably find you a good one.

I think the dice systems we have now work well enough, maybe the DCs might occasionally be a bit high but that could also be my bias as a player, but if it ain't broke don't break it.

Weird, as we've passed more DC 7's than we've failed. In fact, our only 3d10 failures were in this thread. If it was truly 30% wouldn't it be the other way around?

30% of the time we succeed 100% of the time.
>>
>>37426979
>>37427003
Oh yeah, true. Looks like I missed one. Still, 3 rolls failed out of at least a dozen.

>>37426966
You have to multiply all the different chances by each other. You can't just take 2 chances and multiply by 1.5 and say that accounts for the third, because the third is different from the other two.
>>
>>37427053
>at least a dozen.
We've not had anywhere near that many of those rolls anon.
>>
If i'm not mistaken, the probability for a single set of 3d10 to pass the DC of 7 is about 35%.
>>
>>37427053
Just to be sure I'm not completly braindead yet the chance for a crit-success is 8.1%
>>
>>37427172
It's closer to 27.5% but yes, it is low, it is no where near as high as what that anon in a previous thread 'calculated'.

>>
>>37427173
I'm getting 6.4%

>>37427191
Not that anon, but I'm getting 35% here http://anydice.com/program/50d9
>>
>>37427303
Because we have 3 "tries"/rolls
>>
>>37427317
We have found time and time again that anydice's algorithms are not compatible with /tg/ dice as they use different methods of seed generation. As a result of the way /tg/ dice generate seeds attached to post time, you end up with more clustered below average rolls than if you were to use anydice.
>>
>>37427085
so I just went through and counted
we've rolled 13 calls each for 3d10's and 1d100's
yea, we are pretty near it, past in fact
>>
>>37427340
That's an approximation, to get the true number you have to do some weird inversion thing.
>>
>>37427360
Fresh bread
>>
>>37427343
Have we though? I've seen clustered high rolls in other threads, I feel like those get ignored so /tg/ can whine about unfair dice.
>>
>>37427410
Its 1-(1-X)^Y where X is the probability of 1 roll succeeding, and Y is the number of rolls you get.
>>
>>37427343
Do we know how much that affects the result?
>>
>>37424750

>>
>>37427631
I did actually search them since last time. All I found was a thread calculating that a single QM had rolled low very consistently. Nothing about all dice trending low based on time. Too bad, looks like that argument doesn't hold up anymore. You ready to stop being a whiny bitch?
>>
>>37427692
that you couldn't find them is not proof they don't exist, just proof you can't search properly. there have been at least 5 threads made in the last 4 years that delved into the math of /tg/ dice
>>
>>37427774
Welp, I looked through all posts that had the keywords dice and chance, dice and probability, and dice and "rolling low". I don't believe at least 5 threads made on the subject could avoid even a single post containing one of these combinations. So either put up some proof, or stop being a little bitch.
