Finally, after those scum have been put down like the dogs they are, you're anchored next to the marine ship.

'Thank you, thank you, thank you!' The marine lieutenant says gratefully from his bed in the medical bay. 'If you gallant people hadn't have come when you did, we'd all be sinking to the bottom of the sea!'

'It was nothing, really.' You reply, toying with the pistol the pirate captain had, 'What could we do, just watch as courageous marines gave their lives up to disgusting degenerates like those?' What does this man take you for? Some sort of proto-pirate?

'No, no, no, I refuse to just let you just say it was nothing, you deserve some sort of recompense!' He continues, propped up by a pillow. 'I know!' A sudden thought strikes him, 'That captain has to be worth something! How about we give him to you and you take in the bounty on his head!'

God! This man really is generous, most marines would just thank you and sail off with the pirates, not offer to give them to you!

>Why thank you, that's possible the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me! (take the pirate)
>No, I simply can't take him from you, he took out your men and you deserve to bring his head in to the marine office. (refuse to take the bounty)

'No, absolutely not!' You say indignantly, rising out of your chair. 'I simply cannot do that.'

'Wh-why not?' he asks in confusion, face showing incredulity. 'B-but aren't you bounty hunters?'

'Yes, we are. But we can't just take a man that's killed so many of those under your command in good conscience. It'd be just like a pirate to do that.' You answer.

'But that's not fair on you guys! You took him down and saved our lives! We can't, in good conscience, allow you to go off without even a small reward!' He cuts in, as indignant as you were mere seconds ago.

'Don't worry about it, friend, we've already got a pirate in our cargo hold that we're going to turn in, so losing this bounty doesn't really phase us.' You answer to waylay his fears. 'We took him when he was attacking his village, the ship we're using is actually his.'

'Oh! I guess that would explain the Jolly Roger! But how many people do you intend to save this week!?' He asks, clearly admiring you/

>As many as I can, it's my job to take down pirates, after all

'Say,' you interject, 'There is one way you could repay me...'

'Ah, finally! The hero asks for something to reward his hard work!' the lieutenant says, eye crinkling with a smile. 'What can I possible do for the man of the hour?!'

'It's not much, really, all I need is information on the pirates in the area. I feel the itch to take those mothersuckling bastards down!'

'If I didn't know any better, I'd call you a marine!' He says, a grin splitting his face.

'If I didn't know any better, I'd call you a brother!' You reply a matching smile on your face. 'I didn't catch your name, by the way!' You comment, smacking your head with the palm of your hand. It's always like you, to forget your manners! I guess it dates back to your cut and run pirate days.

'Lieutenant Thorpe, and who, might I ask, is my courageous savior?'

'Just Huck, no need for formalities between friends, Thorpe!'

'Ah, I appear to be berated. John Thorpe, at your service!'

This is a chipper man, you note, a good man. I wonder if the Justice he follows is Absolute or Moral?

'Well, I'll leave you to getting better, my companion, Mia, is most probably gambling your boys out of their hard earned berrys!' You say, rising from your chair and moving to the door.

'Yes, though you might be our savior, I doubt my men would like their money taken out of their pockets!' John says from his bed, 'I've been telling the boys that gambling isn't a man's pursuit. But they just don't listen to me!'

As you leave the medbay, you're met with the sight you had hoped you wouldn't see: the marines sat at a table with Mia.

'Oh God' you say under your breath, moving your way to the table.

'What have we here, stealing from marines?' You say, adopting a severe tone of voice.

'Come now, Huck, you're years too young to be telling me off, especially when you have a host of vices yourself!' Mia says, 'I guess I should leave you guys to the rest of your money, it'd be rude to take it /all/, after all!' she continues, rising from her seat.

'Where to now, captain?'

'Where to? Fuka Island, we're going to be giving these marines an escort!' You say proudly, making an encompassing gesture with your hands.

'Oh thank God'
'We won't get attacked again!'
'Even if we do, we can definitely defeat them!'

'Can one of you please tell the Lieutenant that we're going to be accompanying you? You say, gesturing to the marines.

'Of course, I'll go right away!' One of the marines says, coming to his feet.

'Good man,' you continue before looking to Mia. 'It's time we set off, it won't do good to be attacked by pirates thinking we're easy pickings!'

'Right, captain. I'll just bring my winnings and we'll go.'

As she's collecting her winnings, a young marine comes up to you, 'Th-thank you!' he stammers, obviously happy that he's still alive 'W-without you we'd all be dead!' you can see the tears in his eyes are he says this.

>Don't worry kid, you're not and that's all that matters.

'Next time we won't be around to save you, kid, so you've got to get stronger.' You say to him, eyes level with his. 'You need to get strong enough that nobody even thinks of becoming a pirate in these waters again.'

'Y-yes, sir! I will! I'll get strong enough that pirates will leave the South Blue alone all together!' He stutters.

Damn, has this kid got a speech impediment or something?

'Good, now we're setting off. It's best that your ship doesn't fall too far behind.' You continue, walking over to the gangplank between your ships.

In no time, you're off! Sailing down the currents of the South Blue, directing your ship toward Fuka Island. It takes the better part of the day before you arrive in the docks of Fuka Village.

You set off the gangplank onto the wooden planks of the docks, taking a moment to get your land legs back.

'Come on, Mia, let's get the prisoner out of lock up and say our goodbyes to the lieutenant.' You say, turning toward your companion.

'Right, captain.' She replies, going belowdecks to fetch him.

She comes back up a couple of minutes later with the pirate slung limp over her shoulder.

'Had to knock him out, eh?' You ask, eyeing her warily. There's a reason you don't mess with Mia.

'Yeah, he was causing a ruckus so I had to knock him out.' She says nonchalantly, climbing down the gangplank with ease.

'Where to now?'

'We're going to the lieutenant then it's off to the bounty office.' You reply, walking casually to the marine ship that's docked beside yours.

'Huck!' Jack yells, coming down the gangplank to the shore. 'What're you doing here, I thought you were going to cash in your bounty then leave?'

'There was a question I wanted to ask you first, actually,' you reply, walking up to him and clasping his forearm. ' I need you to tell me about pirate activity in the area.'

'Ah, you're going to work yourself to death one of these days, my friend' Jack says regretfully, shaking his head.

'Yes, but today's not the day!' you shoot back with, 'and neither's tomorrow, nor the next day!'

'Well, how can I argue with optimism like that?' he comments, walking with you off the docks. 'How about you come and see me in my office after you cash in the bounty and we'll talk more on pirate activity?'

'Definitely, that sounds like a plan!' you say, stepping onto the cobbled stoned of Fuka Town.

'Good, I'll be seeing you then!'

As you part ways with your new friend, Mia comments 'Seems like an amiable chap, eh?'

'Yeah, he's a good man' You reply, making your way to the Marine Bounty Collection Office.

'Ladies first,' you say, holding the door open for Mia.

'Bastard, don't try and be chivalrous with me,' she replies, punching you in the arm.

Ouch.

'What can I do you two for?' A wizened old man asks from behind a desk.

'Here to collect a bounty on this man.' You say, motioning for Mia to set him down. 'One by the name of Dergen, ring any bells?'

'Ah, Dergen the fleet foot. Glad someone finally put him down, he would've gotten troublesome after a few more months.' the man behind the counter says, reaching behind him to ring a bell. 'There's going to be a couple'a marines coming down in a second to take him off your hands. Just let me see what he's worth.' He continues, rifling through a drawer full of bounty posters.
'Ah, here we are: Dergen the Fleet Foot, worth 5 million berry'

5 Million! So the bastard was telling the truth!

'Perfect, just what he told us he'd fetch.' Mia says, rubbing her shoulder as the man reaches behind him to count out the money.

'Where to now, captain?' Mia asks as you exit the Bounty Collection Office.
