You contemplate what you ought to say, trying to recall your earliest memories of life as an apprentice. As you remember it, you and your master always had a sort of competitive relationship. He would play a prank on you, and you would do your best to get him back. Of course, you'd rarely succeed. He was a Grandmaster and you were his apprentice. You always relished those moments you did finally manage to catch him unawares.

Without a doubt, your fondest memory of pranking your master is when you managed to freeze him to the ceiling. Horribly difficult, you had to first freeze him and then lift him using only your mastery over the ice that surrounded him, all without waking him. Yet you managed it, and the look on his face when he woke up... priceless. Just recalling it brings a smile to your face.

“Here's my advice, Rasim. You need to simply stop caring. About what others say, or do, or think of you. If someone is bothering you, make them look like a complete idiot. Manifest a patch of ice beneath their feet or make it look like they pissed themselves. That extends to the Master as well. If he plays a prank on you, try to play one on him in return. It was the relationship I had with our master, and he loved it. I think the only reason he does it is to motivate his apprentices to work harder to counter his tormenting.”

You sigh. “I suppose, if you're left with no recourse, it's acceptable to challenge someone to an honor duel. I can tell you I've been in a few myself. I was mostly the challenged, rather than the challenger. That said, there's little risk of you being injured in a duel of honor and it's a great way to work past an argument. I've dueled most of my closest friends at least once. That said, dueling shouldn't be your first response. Always first try to make light of the situation before resorting to violence. Also, learn to laugh at yourself. You shouldn't take everything seriously all the time.”

(1/2)
>>
Rasim seems to be considering what you've said. Everyone seems to generally approve of your advice, Mortia especially. Chryssa is neutral is ever, so you can't really say what she thinks of the situation. To be honest, you doubt she cares.

You decide to take this opportunity to stand up, stretching out your legs briefly before clearing your throat to get your companions' attention. “Well then, I need to go buy a goat. I trust that you won't all burn the place down if I leave you alone for a few minutes.”

“We're not really the ones with a history of burning places down, Mik.” Darzi remarks dryly. “That's sort of your thing, actually.”

You sigh, starting for the stairs. “You're never going to let me live that down are you? I'll be back in a little bit, I promise not to set anything that doesn't deserve it on fire.”

You're down the stairs and out the door in no time at all. Now you find yourself faced with a decision. You could head to the market and try to find an animal seller there, but the market district isn't really where one purchases livestock. You could probably find a goat but it would probably be expensive. Alternatively, you could head into the outskirts of the city and see if you can't find someone selling goats in the markets outside the walls. It's farther away, and so will take longer, but you'll have an easier time finding what you're looking for and you probably won't have to pay as much.

Anyone else think our water purification idea is some sort of irony?

The reason we got banished was because we very zealously disagreed with Kadir's wasteful use of water, and then we turnaround and make some sciency-enchant water purification cistern so that all of El-Amin can waste water as they please around the time before or after we get officially unbanished.
Maybe not ironic, but poetic, or something.

You decide to make for the outskirts. Even if it's a bit of a walk. You'll have an easier time finding a goat and it will probably be cheaper as well. That thought in mind, you set off at a brisk pace north. You'll be cutting through the docks that flank the Vatis' Quarter on either side, then cutting north-east across the various houses, craft halls, guild houses, and inns that make up the northern portion of the city. It's not exactly a nice part of town, but it's better than the slum that is most of the eastern half of the city.

You quickly leave the Vatis' District and enter the Merchant's Quarter. The houses which line the streets here are mostly two stories and universally made of stone. Some of the houses would actually better be termed estates, complete with gardens and some even with bathhouses. Most of those living here are quite wealthy, if not on par with most noble families. A respectable living.

You pass from the Merchant's Quarter to the docks. These aren't the actual docks, the stone piers which have stood for centuries on the southern half of the city. Rather, these are a ramshackle collection of wooden piers which form a complex network of interconnected docks and buildings. Merchants hawk their wares to passer's by and people clog the rickety wooden walkways. You've spent more time than you'd be willing to admit here, either running errands for your Master or causing trouble.

Leaving the docks behind you find yourself navigating residential blocks, shops, inns, brothels, and restaurants. The people living in the north city aren't poor, but they're not really middle class either. They have enough to eat and pay their rent but few can afford much in the way of luxuries. Incidentally, the northern portion of the city is where most go to relax or have fun. It's in these streets that you spy a familiar face. A man you've known since you'd both just barely entered puberty, and who you've had your fair share of misadventures. Ismael Uzun, the son of a minor lord who rules a handful of villages to the east of El-Amin, and a powerful Fire Vatis from what you recall. He's not wearing a Vatis' robes, opting instead for a simple shirt and trousers. He wears a sword on his hip, and you detect a hint of magic coming off of those bracers he wears. You'd guess they're enchanted.

He looks troubled about something or other, judging by the way he scans the crowd. He hasn't noticed you, as of yet. You could probably slip past unnoticed if you so chose.

You wave an arm in the air to get his attention. “Ismael!” He jumps at the sound of his name, quickly picking you out of the crowd. At first he looks confused, but then realization dawns on him. Rather than the big grin he'd always greet you, or indeed most anybody, with when the two of you were apprentices he merely looks concerned, his brow knitting together. You shoulder your way through the press of the crowd regardless, it's not particularly difficult. At this hour of the day, the roads are not just terribly crowded as they will be later in the afternoon as evening begins to roll around.

As you draw near he clasp your forearm, a sign of camaraderie. You return the gesture in kind. “Mikhael, what are you doing in the city? What happened to your brand? I was there when they put the iron to your cheek and I imagine I would have heard if you'd been unbanished.” He keeps his voice low so as not to draw attention, you are after all in public. Even if you are due to be unbanished at the mere mention that someone is an Aghtaki many people will leap at the opportunity to attack. There's good money in killing one, fairly large bounties to be had.

You can't help but grin. “Ah, well. Let us just say that I no longer have anything to fear from the City Guard or indeed, the Shah himself. I'll explain later, if you like. In a place not quite so public. Why do you look so troubled, my friend? It's unlike you.”

He sighs, wearily. “It's my woman, we got into something of an argument and she's stormed off. It was stupid, really. I commented on the looks of another woman and she got upset. I don't think she's yet grown use to our customs.” You wonder why she would need to. What, is he banging a human or something? “I thought I'd seen her run off this way, but I must have lost her in the crowd. She's probably headed for the gates. Usually when she gets like this she retreats to the desert.” You wouldn't typically think of the desert as a safe haven.

“You know, it just so happens I was heading for the gates myself. I need to purchase a goat. Why don't we both head that way and catch up while we walk?”

He nods, and the two of you set off together for the north gate. “So what sort of woman is this that you're seeing? I'd heard you'd started living with your mistress recently, but I didn't imagine she wasn't Samjan. I would have assumed you'd have been tossed out into the sands alongside me if that were the case.”

“Right, right. I suppose I ought to explain. Jayashri is Samjan, but she's not from El-Amin. She belonged to a tribe of nomads wandering the Pa'vala, before she was captured by slavers. I bought her at auction, and well. She ended up meaning more to me than I would have thought. I freed her, of course, and we've been living together for some time now. Almost a year. She's a wonderful woman, but apparently the customs of the nomads differ quite drastically from our own.”

You weren't even aware that anyone lived in the Pa'vala. How do they survive that terrible place? Where would they make camp? Walking for any period of time in the Pa'vala is like to attract the attention of a Palaka worm, unless one is very careful. An entire tribe wandering the waste wouldn't last more than a few days at the very most. Not to mention there's no drinkable water that you know of.

Your thoughts are interrupted as Ismael speaks. “So how long have you been back in town? Did you ever leave? I haven't heard a word about you since you were set to wandering, and now you show up unmarked and perfectly healthy.”

You shrug your shoulders. “Oh, I've traveled around. I've explored a few ruins, visited a few foreign cities. I've collected quite the ragtag little band of adventurers to follow me around as well. I think you'd like them, an Elven friend of mine actually sort of reminds me of you. In so far as you share a mutual love of hookers. Anyway, I'd go into more detail but in this environment, I wouldn't want to attract the wrong sort of attention.”

Ismael scoffs. “There's no such thing as bad publicity, Mikhael. I've learned that the hard way over the course of these past few years. The controversy surrounding my relationship has made me more money than my talent alone ever could have.”

The two of you chat about largely inconsequential things, making your way through the city streets to the north gate. You enjoy catching up with Ismael. After his initial concern regarding your status as an Aghtaki passes it's as if the two of you have picked up right where you left off. As much as you'd be loathe to admit it, you missed this bastard.

You reach the north gate after what seems like only a few minute's walk. Ismael sets to scanning the people lingering around the gate in search of this Jayashri of his. Meanwhile, you keep your eyes peeled for a goat, or at the very least a man selling livestock. You happen upon your target first; an old man sitting half-asleep on a bench next to a closed pen, in which perhaps twenty goats mill about. Water and grain have been laid out for them to enjoy, and you pick out a few particularly fat ones you're sure Zahak would find tantalizing.

You approach the farmer, momentarily excusing yourself from Ismael's company. As you draw near the old man cracks open an eye, watching you warily. He's got short, grey hair and a long beard of the same shade, you'd estimate his age to be somewhere around six hundred. Ancient, by the standards of most peasants. They tend to die around a hundred or so.

You clear your throat, bowing respectfully to the man. “How much for one of your goats? I'm hosting a get together and I'm looking for the main course.”

The old man speaks slowly, he sounds impossibly tired. “Twenty silver for a full grown buck, fifteen for a wether, ten for a nanny, or five for a kid.”

Testicles are necessary to produce hormones, which builds muscle. Muscle is stringy. You want to get a nice, fat, gelded goat for eating.
>>
Oh yeah, need to get one for Ricky too. I can't remember if we got him one already, if we have, then get him another one of the opposite sex. Ricky the animal breeder!
>>
>>37453961
Well, castrated animals tend to be fatter and more tender, so a Wether would be the best if you were just going for something to eat. Bucks on the other hand tend to be larger, but also more temperamental. Females goats are smaller than males, more docile, and produce milk. They're also acceptable eatin'.
>>
>>37453918

>>

depends what you call "delicious".

Youngs have a morer tender meat than adults but the meat is less flavorfull.

Females that haven't got with child have a more tasteful meat than young but are less tender.

Females that got pregnant are even more tasteful but age n' shit makes the meat chewy.

Males are chewy, even more so if they've still got their balls.

You inspect his heard of animals for a time, picking out three particularly fat wethers. After a fashion you turn your attention once more to the farmer. “I'd like the three fat wethers and two nanny goats.” You wonder if you ought to get nannies that are producing milk or nannies that are dry. You figure they can always be bred to produce milk, and kids, if your Master wants to milk goats. Well, if your Master wants Rasim to milk goats. Somehow you can't imagine the old man doing it himself.

The goatherd nods his head lethargically. “Sixty-five silver for the lot, then.”

While that's a paltry sum to you, there's no reason to overpay if you don't have to. “It hardly seems far to charge the same price when I'm buying several goats as when I'm buying one. Considering the bulk of my purchase, I think forty silver is a fair price. After all, it's not like you can't always make more goats. They're a renewable resource.”

The old goatherd shakes his head. “Gotta take into account the cost of raising the animals, buyin' feed and waterin' them and such. Fencing to keep them from runnin' off. Cost of labor keepin' them content and safe. Good investments, what with sellin' 'em for the cheese and the milk and the meat, but not too cheap to raise. Fifty silver”

You sigh, you can already see where this is going. “Forty five, then?”

The old man nods, and you hand over three gold coins. He holds them up to the light for a moment, watching the sunlight glint off their surface. After a time he smiles, letting the coins drop into a pouch on his belt. Laboriously, he pushes himself to his feet and hobbles over to the enclosure's gate. He picks up a length of rope from where it was hung on a fence post and quickly ties loops around five of the goat's necks, leaving some length at the front so you can lead them all along easily enough. Once he's done he hands the rope over to you.

(1/2)
>>
You take the rope, giving it a light tug to urge the goats along. They follow along, docile enough. The wethers don't have much fight in them, the growth of their horns seems to have been stunted when they were castrated. The females as well don't seem to have any desire to run off. You lead the train of goats back to where Ismael stands in the road.

Ismael raises an eyebrow at the sight of your purchases. “Why do you need goats again? Are you starting a herd or something?”

You clear your throat. “No, no. Nothing of the sort. It's just that my party of companions has grown rather large, this is just what it takes to get everyone fed.”

He seems to buy it, or at least he doesn't ask any further questions. He seems just a touch preoccupied.

You glance back at your collection of goats, and then return your attention to Ismael. “I'll help you search for-” Crap, what was her name again? Wait, you've got it. “-Jayashri. I've got nothing else to do, well except drag these goats back to my former Master's home. That can wait of course.”

Ismael smiles gratefully, his relief evident. “Thanks, Mik. I know I probably shouldn't worry, she can take care of herself well enough. I must be going soft.”

“I don't know, Ismael. You've always been pretty sentimental. Remember the first time us, Delshad, and Mohan visited that whorehouse together, the time we got caught while Del and Mohan ran off without us? I seem to distinctly remember you confessing your undying love to one of the women we'd hired. I don't think it would be proper to say you've only just begun to go soft.”

He slumps his shoulders, sighing. “You're never going to let me live that down, are you? I told you, I'd never been drunk before. It was the liquor talking, not I.”

You look at him skeptically. “I don't know, Ismael. Liquor is said to make the tongue looser. Indeed, I'm always painfully honest whenever I get a few drinks in me. It's caused me a number of problems in the past.”

As the two of you set off wandering the outskirts, you change the subject. “Can you tell me anything about this woman of yours? What does she look like, what was she wearing, anything that might help to identify her?”

He nods. “Right, suppose that would be helpful. She's on the shorter side, about six feet tall. Very lithe. Red hair-” That should make things infinitely easier. Seldom few Samjan have red hair. “-and on the lighter side in terms of skin tone. She was wearing this weird suit that her people wear, it's supposed to help prevent moisture escaping the body. Oh, and a blue shawl.”

She doesn't sound like she'll be hard to pick out of a crowd, assuming she's still in the city that is. If she's fled into the desert you may as well be looking for a needle amidst a haystack. You could search your entire life and never find her.

An idea occurs to you, an application for your limited knowledge of Nature magic. “How magically powerful is she? Is she a Vatis?”

Ismael glances at you briefly before returning his attention to the crowd. “She's a pretty good Water Vatis, better than I am in fact. I've also taught her the basics of fire magic. She's not just terribly powerful, but I suppose more so than your average person.”

You nod, and begin to channel nature magic. Your vision shifts, a green film covering the world. The first thing you notice are patches of dark green rapidly fading into existence, plant life. Next lighter shades of green in various shapes and sizes begin to fade into view. It's a bit more difficult to navigate without bumping into something or other, but you manage well enough.

It's as you reach the auctioning blocks at the edge of the desert that you spot a smear of light green far more intense than those surrounding it. You can tell the figure is a woman, just by the outline of their body. They fit Ismael's description of Jayashri, lithe and well built. Unfortunately you can tell hair color or skin tone when the entire world is various shades of green.

You cut off the float of magic, the world slowly returning to normality. You find yourself standing amidst a crowd of onlookers surrounding the auctioning block where new slaves are sold. You take a moment to assess the slaves up for auction. Perhaps a dozen human males, most of them with obvious bruises and lash marks. Three Samjan, two women and one man. You'd guess they sold themselves into slavery to pay off some debt or another. Finally two or three dozen elves, most of them you'd assume to be refugees or captives. None of them stand out to you in particular.

You spot Jayashri standing near the edge of the crowd, her red hair and distinctive garb giving her away. You nudge Ismael and point her out for him. He sighs heavily, obviously relieved. “Thank god, she's okay. I'll go speak with her. Just wait here, I won't be long.”

You nod, and respectfully wait where you are. While Ismael talks to his mistress, you decide to watch the auction. A woman in the robes of a Vatis seems to have taken particular interest in the Samjan man, and is engaged in a rather heated discussion with a tubby man you presume to be the seller. Meanwhile, one of the humans is busy slamming his shoulder against the bars of his cage, snarling like some sort of animal. A Samjan you presume to be the slaver selling the humans merely watches on in vague amusement.

Most of the elves are housed in a single enclosure, a large cage. Some huddle together, others are sobbing. A woman in a City Guard uniform is circling the cage, while a man in rich silken robes is engaged in a discussion of some sort with a unsavory looking human you presume to be the slaver. It all seems rather droll, if you're being honest. Nothing particularly spectacular. Regardless, it's better than watching the drama unfold between your friend and his woman.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the sharp sound of flesh striking flesh. You glance over to see Ismael rubbing a hand-shaped red mark on his cheek. He doesn't look particularly irritated, so you assume it didn't particularly hurt. Jayashri, who you assume only moments ago slapped your friend, stands up on the tips of her toes and plants a light kiss on your friends lips. She's smiling coyly, as if she knows some vast secret that no one else does.

Jayashri slides one arm through Ismael's own, and the two of them start back towards you. As they draw near, Jayashri bows low and begins to speak a dialect of Samjan you can only barely comprehend. You'd initially want to describe it as archaic, but it uses words you've never heard before. You can't be certain if it's truly an older dialect of your own language or if it's some sort of local adaptation. “An oases may you and yours discover. Thanks are owed for helping my lover avoid any unfortunate mistakes.”

You're not really entirely sure what to make of what she's saying, but you get that she's thanking you, and she's apparently being respectful. You return her bow in kind before responding. “It's the last I could do to help an old friend, and I'm pleased to see you're safe and sound.”

Let's learn some of her customs, could come handy in the Pa'vala.
Also inquire about that suit.
Also any advice she has or something.
Also she is really qt, compliment her, I'm interested how she'd react, considering she's from a different culture.
No need for slaves, besides some of out companions might not exactly appreciate it.

You know we could always ask the cat about portals, could cut down on traveling.
Maybe we can milk some info from him.
>>
>>37456592
Do we really? I imagine the spirit or Fulvia can fix things up, and I'd rather not let some slave learn about our dealio there.
Could even make it a group meditation to clean the place, that could be fun.

I think there's one from HH where it skips to years later when the MC has a daughter, and the NTR-er comes back and takes them both.

I read/saw a few that went all the way it usually ends in these four ways.
1.cries like a bitch and leaves the relationship(might even do a time skip)
2.Cries and joins in the ntr
3.Cries and becomes a broken husk that masturbates to his womans pleasure
4.some one gets murdered( sometimes its left ambiguous)
So yeah 3/4 of these make it more depressing.

I know there's a manga where MC fucks his brother's fiance(?) because she's a huge slut and takes cock all day everyday, and fucks her so well that she becomes loyal to him, shame it's not translated, by the same guy who did the Secret Signal one, or whatever it's called.
>>37456775
Thanks for running, Soma!
How fine are Mormor's legs? Did Mik suddenly get good taste, or was he just too focused on survival and such to notice the temptations of flesh?

They were actually primarily inspired by Celts, Slavs, and Greeks.

Except with less butt fucking. Where as most barbarians were heavily influenced by their women according to ancient accounts, and some of the few societies that didn't enjoy man-boy buttlove, the Celts were the exception. They were said to prefer male lovers, going so far as to offer their boypussies to strangers and become offended if refused.

Celts were some gay faggots, is what I'm saying.
