In the last thread, there were votes for getting new weapons. You can either vote for that again and tell me what kind of weapons you were wanting, or we can vote again.
>>
>>37454395

>>
>>37454395
Get Mia some knuckles and Buy ourselves some pistols for closer combat.

'We're going to go to the town's marketplace. We need to get you something to augment your fighting style, and we need to look around for a new sniper rifle for me.' You tell her, making your way down to the village square.

'Do you really need another rifle?' Mia asks, following you. 'Your one's serviceable, and is more than capable of helping out in a pinch.'

'Yeah, I know. I'm just going to look, if one's good enough then I'll buy it.' You reply as you reach the Square.

You see market stalls arrayed around all the walls of the Square, taking up all available space. You see two weapons stalls, at least three food stalls, and a clothes stall.

Which will you look at first?

An upgrade for rusty and something to help Mia out, whatever she thinks works really. Keep enough for supplies and the like.

I missed the last thread and a half due to late post times but have we pretty much decided not to give the village any of the reward? It seems like we should at least try and see if that Marine Lt. can't help get them secured if nothing else.

You bring your gaze to the rifles hanging on the wall behind the merchant, eyeing the assembled sniper rifles with glee. There's three of them: a black one with a large sight on it, a yellow one which looks to have higher power than the rest, and a grey one that's longer than the others, clearly used for taking longer shots.

'I'd like to take a look at your rifles, if I could' you say to the merchant, looking at him.

'Of course, fine customer! I'll just get them down for you!' He replies, gathering the three rifles with his hands and putting them on the counter between you.

'This one's the Sandy Island Shooter,' he says, pointing to the red one. 'Made for taking more accurate shots,' this one's the Drunk Kingdom Brick Breaker,' pointing to the yellow one. 'Made for taking out bigger foes, not as accurate as the others, but very powerful!'
'And this one', he motions you in with a wave of his hand, 'Is the Baroque Long-shot! My personal favourite, if I might add.' he says, clearly pleased with himself.

'And those gloves of yours,' you say, motioning to the strange boxing gloves to his right, 'what exactly are they?'

'Ah, a fine customer with a fine taste!' He practically squeals with delight, clapping his hands together. 'We have two at the moment in stock. The black one is fully steel, heavy, but powerful!' he replies, 'and the grey one just has steel at the knuckles, not going to pack as big a punch as the black, but still going to hit hard!'

Which one will you inquire about?

'I want a look at the Baroque Long Shot, if you will, and the black gloves for my companion.' You say, turning to Mia and motioning her forward.

'I just knew you had excellent taste, my dear customer!' the merchant says, reaching behind him to take the black gloves down.

'Hmm,' Mia comments, trying on the gloves. 'They're pretty damn heavy! I don't know whether or not I can swing my hardest or fastest with these on. But they're going to be damn good when I get used to them!'

Good! That'll make her stronger in the long run. It's a must to be strong in these seas.

'And the Baroque Long Shot for you,' the merchant continues, smiling and giving you the gun. 'As the name suggests it has a much longer range than the other rifles, it's not as strong, not as accurate, and not as flashy as the others. But it's good if you're not planning on getting close to your targets.'

'Perfect!' You exclaim, 'What's the price for these two?'

'Since you have exquisite taste, I'm going to cut you a deal!' The merchant replies, giving a sly smile. '2 and a half million berry for the Long Shot, and one and a half million for the gloves!'

>>
>>37455758
that makes sense, but you do realize that if you keep DCs high like this through the quest you're going to have to justify every single one

players generally expect things to get more difficult as plot progresses, and you're already setting a pretty high bar

As you make your way to the stalls, you hear a topic come up in a number of situations, namely 'Pirates' and how they're infesting the local waters.
'There's one of particular note,' you make out from two women talking over a basket of laundry. 'Quen the Charmeleon, he prays on ships after taking merchant or marine vessels he attacks. It's terrible!'

God, that could be your next paycheck!

'What can I do yer for, mate?' the clothes stall holder asks you, smoking a cigarette.

'Just looking for serviceable clothes to wear out at sea, nothing flash, nothing too expensive. What catches your eye, Mia?' you ask, turning toward your companion.

'Well, I'm looking for some canvas trews and shirts, that's best for life on the seas.' the remarks, fingering some clothes to the right of the counter. 'Say, merchant, these are canvas, aren't they?'

'Yes. but we don't have any women's canvas clothes, they're just not...refined...' The clothes seller says, making a vague motion with his left hand.

'What do I care about 'refinement',' Mia replies, looking around. 'I want easy to move in, easy to take care of, and, above all, easy to fight in.'

'Well, I can offer you six pairs of shirt and pants for 200,000 berrys' he says, smiling for the first time.

You spot the second clothes stall that you saw on your way in and make for it.

'Ah, another customer! What can I get for you!' The man says cheerfully. It looks like he's going to be much better than the other guy.

Necessities only, after all we'll need some walking around money after this as well.

Hands down.

pine needle tea was a common way to kill off the chance of scurvy, pine needles and hot water, bam 5x more vit C than a lemon high in vitamin A and can be stored dry so it wont spoil on us

this is the most sensible option, I feel

This is very true. Do pine trees exist in this corner of the world because I only remember seeing them on winter islands?

Pine trees exists on almost every climate.

'We'll be wanting around 150,000 berry worth of meats, vegetables and fruits, if you have that many,' you say as you get closer to the food stall.

'That's all my stock and then some, friend!' The woman behind the counter says, clearly surprised at the amount you want to buy.

'Well, I'll have as much meat, fruit and vegetables as you have to offer!' You say, unabashed.

That should be around a week's worth of food, I think.

'Sea journey, I take it?' The woman asks, then continues at the nod of your head. 'I can give you 5 days worth of food for 120,000 berry, and you'll have to go to one of my rival produce sellers for the rest.'

>Perfect!

'I'll take 5 days worth,' you reply, smiling.

'Alright, deary, happy to be doing business with you,' she says, handing over a large sack filled with meats, vegetables and fruits.

'You made a good decision, Captain,' Mia comments as she slings the bag over her shoulder. 'If you had picked anything else, I would've been worried that you were mentally deficient.'

Well, that's encouraging.

'We'll put the provisions on the ship and then we'll talk to the lieutenant about pirate activity,' You ignore the last, opting for a more respectful approach.

'Alright, Captain.'

After you put your new purchases into the ship, you make your way up to the Marine Post, by the time you get there, it's mid afternoon.

'I'm here to see Lieutenant Thorpe,' you say to one of the guards stationed at the entrance.

'On official business or pleasure?' the guard says without moving an inch.

'Official business,' you bluff.

'And your name?'

'Huck Finn, he'll know me when he hears my name', with that, the guard turns smartly on the spot and walks through the door.

In a few minutes, he's back, bringing good news; 'the lieutenant will see you, if you go up to the second floor and make it to the third door on the left, you'll be in his office. Good day.'

'Thank you very much, soldier' You reply, walking in through the front door.

'Third door on the left,' you say after making it to the second floor. 'Ah, here it is' You continue, opening the door and motioning for Mia to go in first.

'Gentleman.' She remarks sarcastically as she enters the room.

Tough bitch, this one.

'Ah, my friend shows his face!' The Lieutenant exclaims happily from his seat, rising up to greet you.

'Yes, I'm here on business, unfortunately,' you comment sadly. Best to get onto the task at hand and then get out of here.

'I hear, now, what can I do you for?'

This pirate, Quen the Chameleon, any ideas on the bastard's whereabouts? I'd say it's about time this scum were brought to justice.
>>

'I'd like to see bounty posters of the pirates in the area, starting off with one by the name of Quen.' You say, sitting down in a seat reserved for visitors.

'Ah, a particularly nasty one, that one is,' the lieutenant replies, rifling through a drawer to his side and bringing out a sheaf of paper. 'Here's what you want then, there are five pirates wreaking havoc in the areas surrounding Fuka Island. Unfortunately we're not well equipped when it comes to fighting on five fronts at once.' He continues sadly, 'civilians are dying left, right, and center, and we're seen as ineffectual at best, and uncaring at worst.'

'Well, lucky I'm here then!' you say, 'I'm you much needed salvation!'

'Ah, if only it were possible for God to hear our prayers. These five are small time pirates, the only one that should give you trouble is Quen the Charmeleon. They say you never know which ship is his until it's too late.' he continues, handing over the sheets of parchment.

'All that stuff can wait, I'd much rather us get to know each other a little better, preferably over a bottle of good whiskey!' You say, getting comfortable in your chair.

'Ah, you fiend! I knew you only saved me to get to my stash of alcohol!' He says mock angrily

As you talk the night away, you learn all about each other. He tells you about the family he lost to pirates raiding his village, and how he vowed to never let another escape his sight, and he learns of your not so legal past. Though he doesn't seem to judge you for it, if anything, he's thankful you realised the depth of your mistake and changed your ways. You also learn that Mia was once a marine, like you suspected.

'My God!' the lieutenant says, rising out of his seat on unsteady legs, 'Look at the time, it's 11 o'clock! You simply cannot go out to sea at this time and in this state! You'll simply /have/ to stay the night in the base!
