You are Shee Hyul, rebel and psychic. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

You wake up on a bed with Lirael, the two of you wrapped around one another. The pleasant aftershocks of her bite leaving you feeling relaxed and happy and content. The memories of your minds comingled give you a much deeper understanding of this young girl, and you know her trust in you is absolute. You lie there and watch her sleep for a few minutes, her brow unmarred by worry.

Careful not to disturb her you reach over to her datapad and check the time: it’s early afternoon.

You have the whole afternoon ahead of you. Wrapped in your embrace, Lirael starts to stir. With Rainya and Dev still at work you are unable to do anything involving them until this evening.

What do you want to do first?

[Meta]

I’m vetoing Dev getting Mechanics 2, for now. Devs only teacher in technology is Shee, who only has Mechanics 1. Dev’s mechanics skill has been raised to 1, the remaining XP is unspent.

Lirael likewise has not picked a weapon yet. Her XP spent on a specific weapons skill remains unspent. You may choose a weapon for her in-character.

>>
>>37458878
No, we just aren't activating one when it has a high chance of crippling us due to our last power activation having been just a few days ago.
>>
>>37458878
We have a 1 week cyclus after activation during which trying to activate another power has a much higher risk of casuing us crippling injury.
After the week has passed, its safe again.
We only get favor with Jagganatha for activating during that cyclus, because thats what he likes.
>>
I thought about Liraels remaining XP, and I think we should use the opportunity to get her Sight from 9 to 12, so she gets Active Precognition, which is very useful with our strategy of linking our mind to hers to make use of her superior senses.

Another idea, we currently have no one to use Heavy ranged wepans, we could concentrate her XP on raising Might too, so she gets that permanent +10Strength, and let her use those.
This is not actually a serious idea
>>
Shees charsheet still needs to be updated in regards to favor from the last two threads.
Baalzamon for example is at 3 now.
>>
You get up carefully, disentangling yourself from Lirael. She murmurs in protest before continuing to doze. You go into the next dorm and say “Teacher? Teacher?”

The Teachers hologram materialises next to you “Cadet Hyul” he says “I trust you slept well, how are your classes going?”

“Uh fine” you say to the faulty image of the Teacher “I wanted to ask you what other courses do you offer?”

“I pride myself on offering tutoring in a wide variety of topics” says the Teacher “languages, mathematics, sciences-”

“How about practical skills” you say “Like fixing Warmechs? Or piloting them”

“A mechanics elective in maintenance and repair of walking vehicles as well as general mechanical theory is available” says the Teacher “and my tutoring programs are rated to give successful graduates a class 3 license in all civilian vehicles, and selected military ones. Do you wish to begin a course now?”

“Ah no” you say, thinking of Dev “I was asking for a friend.” You could enrol Dev as a student here after he finishes work you suppose.

“Very well” says the Teacher “May I be of any other assistance?”

What are the crafting rules here, anyway?
How easy would it be for us to craft a masterwork energy weapon, to replace our current one?
>>
You carry within you a tiny shard of infernal magic that you can imbue into an object or small collection of objects, you focus on it, wondering what you should use it on.

As per normal powers vote you’ll have 10 minutes to discus then a vote will be called that last for 5 minutes.

Infernal Focus base talent provides only small bonuses, but opens up feat trees depending upon the object chosen: i.e. a weapon that deals energy damage, can be summoned or dismissed, or that can destroy large objects, protect you against attacks etc. Think of Infernal Focuses as magical items, that only you can use. The object only has the relevant powers when used by you, not anyone else.

Armour: Or any item of protective clothing. The armour damage reduction provided by the armour increases by 1. If the armour does not provide damage reduction, count it as providing DR 0 before applying these increases.
Book: Or any information storage device. Allows use of a 4th die when making relevant Knowledge checks when consulting the book.
Combat Shield: A combat shield, primitive or advanced. The shield bonus provided to Melee Defence increases by 1.
Computer: Any Computer sophisticated enough to connect to and manipulate others. Allows a re-roll on any Use Computer check made using the Computer.
Crown: Or any other headwear. Add +2 to Will checks to resist powers and abilities.
Force Shield: An energy or particle shield. Increases shield rating by 5.
Goggles: Or any vision-enhancing object. Allows use of a 4th die when making perception checks using the goggles.
Light: Any object used for making light. Allows use of a 4th die when making perception checks to notice objects within its light radius.
Necklace: Or any other object worn around the neck. Increases your Constitution modifier by +2 to resist powers and abilities.
>>
Necklace: Or any other object worn around the neck. Increases your Constitution modifier by +2 to resist powers and abilities.
Staff: Or other large carried object. Allows you to use a 4th die for any psychic or magical skill check, once per encounter.
Tools: Any set of mechanical or electronic tools. Allows you to use a 4th die for Mechanics skill checks (or other skill use appropriate to the tool – Medicine for medical implements for example).
Vehicle: Any vehicle. Increases the vehicles speed by 25%. Increases its Strength by +2 and gives it additional hit points equal to your Willpower score.
Wand: Or other small carried object. Adds +1 to all checks for a single psychic or magic skill.
Weapon: Any non-improvised weapon. Add +1 to hit and +3 to damage with the weapon.

A single object may be the used for more than one Power Focus talent but only if it could be used as any of the objects.

Infernal Focus for Mounts and cybernetic implants exist but you currently don’t have any of these.

Fixing now
>>
>>37459288
Okay, so the question is, Weapon or Armor?
We can probably make a better energy weapon than our current slugthrower soon, so taking weapon is a bit of a cost of opportunity, even if it grants the largest immediate bonus.
While most likely we won't be replacing our current armor anytime soon.

Tools, is ouf cours enaother option, but only if we really want to do a lot more mechanics stuff from now on.

>>
>>37459315
We can get the ability to make multiple foci later, and I think we'll always want a slugthrower of some kind in-Arsenal for access to the more niche capabilities of modded ammo.
>>
>>37459333
I admit, gun-mage is pretty amazing, but I actually don't want Shee to focus on magic like that.
>>
>>37459347

>>
Your slug-thrower rifle appears in your hands, pulled from...somewhere else, that place inside your head where you keep your important possessions. You focus on the tiny shard of infernal magic inside you and force it into the rifle, a process that takes several minutes.

Once complete, you examine your gun, it doesn’t look any different but when you touch it you can feel the seed of magic within it, though it’s so faint you doubt anyone else can.

[Infernal Focus (Weapon) Gained: +1 to hit, +3 to damage, no other powers as yet]

Now the spark of hellish magic is tiny, but in time, you know it will grow, you put your rifle back in the other place, ready to be used when needed.

With that done, you consider your next task

All good points. Even if he doesn't come to us, we should go to him about that.

I'm currently thinking about what to do with our rifle though, due to it being so much worse then a laser rifle (1d10 vs. 2d10), its not a great choice as a main-weapon.
Should we disassemble and sell/use the parts when we get a proper laser gun?
Seems "cheaper" to me then getting a second focus, since won't be using this one most of the time anyway.

Well, like I mentioned earlier, we'll want to keep some form of slug-thrower around for niche modded ammo capabilities that can't be replicated with laser beams. Poison and Wired ammo comes to mind.

I don't want to disassemble it, since it was a gift. That just feels like a jerk thing to do.

I want to see at what level of Infernal Focus we can access the Multiple Foci peripheral and exactly how it works before making a decision about this anyway.

Once Lirael has woken up you go back to the dorm, she gives a happy smile as she sees you and you feel her telepathic touch brush lightly against your mind.

“Hi Shee” she says

“Hello sleepy” you say, going over to her and kissing her on the forehead once she’s standing up “Want to go exploring?”

“Yeah” she says “Are we looking for monsters?”

“No” you chuckle “We’re going looking for guns, real ones.”

“Oh ok” responds Lirael “That’s good too I guess.”

The two of you wander through the huge facility, looking for any sort of weapons lockers or armouries you can find. The Teacher is no help at all, just telling you that you do not have clearance for that information.

Eventually, after more than an hour of searching you find a solid door labelled *Armoury K-7: Plasma Weapons. Level 4 Clearance required* It has an electronic security lock.

Lirael says “Plasma guns are fun” she says “one shot and all the targets are dead.”

True, but they’re not your favourite weapon. What do you do?

Thats kind of the problem though, its nieche.
Thats why I wanted to use it as staff, to give it additional usability outside that niche.
It just seems like a waste to buy a second foci on something we don't actually use as a weapon most of the time.
Especially since we also want a pistol side-arm at some point, which we could use as wand.
And disassembling is sadly the only way to re-assign a focus.

You crouch down next to the doors lock and examine it for any flaws or ways to pry the cover off.

“What’re you doing?” asks Lirael

“Trying to pick the lock” you say, seeing no easy opening, you and Lirael head back to the warmech repair bay and you return with a variety of tools and start trying to pry the locks cover off.

“Why not this one?” asks Lirael, crouched next to you and pointing to the laser cutter “why not just melt the lock?”

“Because this door” you say “is a secure door, it’ll have metal rods running through the door and into the walls, if I damage the lock, the rods won’t withdraw, and we’ll need to cut into the place, which could take days.”

“Oh” says Lirael, before falling quiet and watching.

After a half-hour, despite all the tools you have at your disposal, you still haven’t got the locks cover off to expose the components beneath.

Ah well, not the only way

You’ve been careful with the lock, and maybe that’s holding you back. You look at the tools you have with you, you could try something heavier but you risk damaging the lock and locking yourself out forever, you could try the careful and patient approach, or you could try something else.

Screw this, what are solid barriers to you? You gather your power and focus on moving past the door into the room beyond, c’mon just focus and-

Ow! Felt like you just ran into a wall.

“Are you ok?” asks Lirael “You just...blurred.”

You haven’t moved from where you were standing.

“I’m fine” you reassure Lirael “Just I dunno, a tough one this.” You gather yourself to try again.

The Teacher materialises next to you, distracting you “Cadet Hyul” he says in a stern voice “did you really think the armouries would not be shielded against teleportation? This is a school for psychics, not delinquents. You have earned yourself ten demerits and I have put a notation in your file for your student counsellor about your criminal tendencies.”

You work on the lock carefully and patiently for another hour. Lirael soon gets bored and goes back to playing with her datapad.

You try all sorts of tools on this thing, scuffing up the cover horribly, throughout it all the Teacher berates and threatens you, you block him out.

Eventually you think you’ve managed to find purchase upon a corner of the locks cover, c’mon...you jam your fingernails underneath it and try to slip a bladed tool underneath to lever it off. The cover pops off and flies across the corridor, exposing the delicate electronics underneath, finally!

You take out some different tools from the toolbox and start working, disabling security features, re-routing power flows and convincing the lock you used the right keycard. After another hour of delicate work a row of green lights appear atop the lock and the door grinds loudly open.

“Cadet Hyul if you go in there you will face detection!” barks the Teacher. Lirael looks up at the doors grinding noise and goes to stand next to you, you walk slowly into the armoury and look around...oh wow...

You see rows and rows of weapons before you, long-arms and pistols, grenades, even small missiles, swords axes, knives and spears, all plasma weapons. And plasma packs: ammunition/fuel for the weapons. There are dozens of weapons here, a fortune. And not just weapons but kits and tools for upgrading and modifying weapons as well.

This room must contain maybe 2 million credits worth of weapons and ammunition, well you think, if you could fence it safely anyway. Or if you kept it to yourself and your allies this could give you weapons for years.

“That’s a lot of guns” says Lirael at your side.

“Yeah” you say “It is.”

You and Lirael walk around the gun racks as the Teacher yells that you’ll be in detention for weeks.

You see hand guns of all sizes as well as long arms

Plasma Guns
(pistol)
Light: Easy to conceal. Damage 2d6, Cost: 320
Standard: No special features. Damage 3d6, Cost: 400
Heavy: Harder to conceal. Damage 3d8, Cost: 800

Standard: No special features. Damage 3d10, Cost: 1,600
Heavy: Low ammunition capacity. Damage 6d6, Cost: 4,000

Cost (in credits) included for information purposes, you’re not paying for these weapons

Lirael lifts a Heavy Plasma Rifle off the rack “Can I have this one, can I Shee?” she asks eagerly.

You chuckle a bit, energy weapons have very little recoil and Lirael is pretty strong, so she’ll probably be able to handle it. You might want to grab something before you look at the melee weapons or upgrades on offer.

I meant in actual numbers. It's important to know what qualifies as middle range and what qualifies as long range.
>>
>>37460514
We aren't going to get actual numbers, for the same reason we won't get definite numbers for the exact range in basically any fight, its pointless to keep track of.

“Sure” you say to Lirael “grab a pistol too as a back-up.”

You and Lirael both grab Heavy Plasma Rifles and you store both in your Dimensional Arsenal, along with plenty of ammunition for both.

You also pick out a Light Plasma Pistol for you, and a Heavy one for Lirael – with her skill at illusions she can easily conceal it.

You find a couple of holsters in the right size for you and Lirael. You don’t know if that’s convenient or disturbing that there’s a child-sized pistol holster hanging up.

With that done you head out, you’ll be back lter with Rainya and Dev you expect, and you intend to tell Charun all about this place later.

It’s now mid-afternoon and you have a few hours before Dev and Rainya will be back in Dust Town.

As you head out, Lirael is at your side, stroking her heavy pistol lovingly.

What now?

>Fix warmech
>Activate Psychic Power (This pleases Jagganatha)
>Explore Facility (looking for anything in particular?)
>Seek the favour of one of the Five (which?)
>Other (what?)

I'd prefer not to give exact ranges for weapons, I don't plan on tracking everything in combat that closely.
>>
>>37460550
>Explore Facility (looking for anything in particular?)
>Look for computer equipment or portable computers for our drones
>>
>>37460527
Then there's no reason to go with anything based off it's range. We have no way to know how long each range degree is. There's no point of reference. Middle range could be 50km. It could be 500m.

Yes there is, one thing has longer range then the other thing. And don't be ridiculous, a slug thrower is a regular weapon, you can easily estimate the ranges for yourself if you stop pretending to be retarded for a moment.
Slug thrower effective range 200-300m, and estimate everything else accordingly.

I'm new to Pally as a QM. What is Paladin of Joy like compared to Psychic Rebel Quest in terms of tone and theme? I'm partial to the dystopia of PRQ. I'm thinking of going on an archive binge.

>>
>>37460652
>What is Paladin of Joy like compared to Psychic Rebel Quest in terms of tone and theme?
Completly different.
PoJs protagonist starts out as hilariously overpowered compared to basically any threat she faces.
The world itself isn't sunshine and happyness, and at one point rather similar to PRQs, Sireyi is so much more powerful than Shee that she can easily afford a much more forgiving and optimistic attitude. Since being too trusting doesn't cost her nearly as much.

>>37460652
Half-Angel Paladin diplomancer in a standard fantasy setting, vs. demon-cultist rebel in a totalitarian fantasy future.
Paladin of Joy can be just as, in parts even more grim, than PRQ, but Sireyis sheer power allows her to influence the world massively, while Shee has to live with it.
>>37460666
>>
>>37460652
Paladin of Joy is far more on the optimistic and hopeful side of the spectrum.
Not so much the setting, but the protagonists and their relationship to their surrounding is very different.
Shee is a outcast and follower of at best ehtically ambigious demon gods and is willing and needs to do questionable stuff like mind-raping people to make the best out of her shitty situation, she has to be paraniod of any threat and can't really afford trusting people that much.

Sireyi starts out as Half-angel paladin and follower of the goddess of joy and PCness, and is much more powerful than the average antagonist, so she can easily afford to be trusting and use her powers freely most of the time. Her threats are less to her own person, and more how what she does affects people around her.

So I would say, while PRQ is largely about what are you willing to do?
While PoJ is more about, what should you do?

“Stop fiddling with your gun Lirael” you chide, even though it’s not currently loaded, you don’t want her getting into bad habits.

“But it’s cool!” protests Lirael, giving her pistol one last pat.

The two of you spend another hour searching the facility, until you come across a classroom that has a number of dissembled robots, some as small as insects, the largest over 8 feet tall, ah yes, this is a good place to start.

As the two of you look around the Teacher appears “Welcome to Basic Rigging cadets” he says in a lecturing tone “Here you will discover how to build and control battle robots, the first thing to remember is-”

“Where’s the good decks?” you interrupt.

“The training portable computing devices provided” says the Teacher “Will be sufficient for this class.” He indicates a row of portable computers on the front desk, each one twice the thickness of a large datapad.

You snort contemptuously “Loaded with what combat AI?”

“You will be using repurposed *Target Rookie* programs” says the Teacher “Altered to ensure that they don’t attempt to seriously harm any living creature.”

“What’s a Target Rucky?” asks Lirael

“The worst Combat AI you can get” you say “and pulling out their safety protocols will take all day, hey Teacher where are the upgraded decks, and the Warmaster AI, or heck I’d settle for Target Soldier right now, at least that one is military grade, even if it is crap.”

“You don’t have clearance for that information” the Teacher informs you.

You and Lirael look around the room for, ah, there, a storage room in back. The door is locked but nowhere near as bulky as the armoury door. Still, the lock is pretty advanced and it might be teleport-shielded.

“Can I shoot it!” asks Lirael as you examine the lock, you turn to look at her, her pistol half out of its holster.

“No” you say pointedly “Not every problem can be solved with a gun.”

“Spoilsport” says Lirael, letting her gun drop back into its holster.

Once again you try to pry the casing off the lock, this one comes apart easier than the armoury door, but once you get a look inside your heart sinks a little bit – it’s a lot more complex than the armoury lock.

Still, you can do this. You take up a few tools and set to work.

30 minutes later Lirael is still asking “Are you there yet?”

“Not yet” you say through gritted teeth.

“How about now?” she asks

“Still no” you growl

“Why?” asks Lirael

“This is a complex lock” you say as you delicately try to reposition a power relay just *so*.

“Tougher than one one an armoury?” asks Lirael, lounging in a chair.

“Yeah” you say

“Why?” she asks “I mean, why here?”

“I guess because they don’t want to computer and robotics geeks getting access to the good stuff” you say “And they need to keep the smarter nerds out with a better lock.”

“Like you” says Lirael with a giggle

“Excuse me?” you say, breaking off to look at her

“The nerds” she says “like you.”

“I’m not a nerd” you say, turning back to your work

“Right, right” says Lirael “I’m sure lots of other girls are more excited to get a new computer than a new dress.”

“What?” you ask, looking at Lirael

“Your eleventh birthday” says Lirael “you got a lot of cool clothing but didn’t care because you had the latest portable computer, and you couldn’t wait to start writing programs for it.”

“I’m ignoring you” you say, going back to work on the lock, you’ve almost got it, another 15 minutes, 20 at the most, 30 tops. You’re never letting Lirael in your head again dammit, and she grew up fast, still, that might be as a result of your minds being all mixed up together for a bit.

>>
You don’t deign to respond to Lirael instead you just continue trying to beat the lock. After another hour of careful tampering and tinkering as Lirael plays on her datapad you finally see a row of green lights across the top of the lock to tell you that it’s now open.

Lirael is all the way over the other side of the room and there’s a bench in between you, there’s no way she can see or hear you when you quickly pump your fist and say under your breath “Yes! Take that!”

Louder you say “Ok, the doors open Lirael, let’s take a look inside.”

Lirael puts down her datapad and walks towards you, you try not to notice her smug smile as the two of you enter the room together. Yeah, you beat that lock and you didn’t kick it...more than once, who’s the nerd now?

No wait, it’s probably you, dammit.

Inside are rows of computers, some larger bulkier ones for fixed locations, smaller portable ones and in the centre of the room, perhaps 3 metres across, is that, no it can’t be...

“What’s that?” asks Lirael, pointing to the huge machine

“It’s an X-3 series one supercomputer” you say in a somewhat awed voice “with that you can control a whole robot army...”

Lirael giggles and says something under her breath that sounds like “Nerdgasm” you ignore her.

“A sixteen-part processor” you say, remembering what you can about this things technical specifications “Enough memory space to hold every computer program ever made and proven to be able to run a hundred instances of the Warmaster AI with no loss in combat capability...” You walk up to the machine and touch it; its cool to the touch, no hint of the vast processing power it has inside.

“But its huge” says Lirael “You won’t be able to move it.”

You point to a closed hatch in the ceiling “They got it in, we can get it out.”

“How?” asks Lirael

“I’ve no idea” you admit

“What about these?” asks Lirael, pointing to the portable computers.
>>
“Series 7 Belephons” you say “Portable, passable performance, but a locked OS, and Core Standard OS gets clunky with custom programs.”

“And those?” Lirael points to the larger, less portable computers, more suitable for a desk or back of a truck than carrying, still, you could mount one on the warmech easily enough.

“Jalsin G-O’s” you say “Probably a lot of custom hardware, would be pretty good at robot-control but you need to know at least basic programming language, since the Jalsin philosophy towards users is *get good, scrubs*. Could fit one on the warmech though.”

Lirael thinks about this “So, you can carry them” she says “But you can’t carry that” she points to the X-3.

She does have a point...but if you can teleport a warmech, you can teleport this

“Shee’s got a boyfriend” says Lirael is a sing-song voice “Shee’s got a boyfriend!”

“C’mon” you say to Lirael “Lets go get Charun, Dev and Rainya.”
---
Back at Dust Town dinner is just beginning. You and Lirael grab seats next to Rainya and Dev, your greeting dies on your lips as you get a good look at Rainya.

One of Rainyas eyes is swollen shut and the entire side of her face is crusted with dried blood. Sat next to her, Dev is helping her eat. Clad in duster rags its hard to see how bad Rainya is hurt, but a lot of her clothes have dark stains.

“What happened?” you ask Dev quietly, trying to ignore all the stares of the people around you

“Not here” he says “In the Hive, but...” He pauses, Rainyas good eye just stares ahead.

“We need to go quickly” you say to Charun “Rainya is hurt, come on!”

Charun sweeps the parts of his pistol into a sturdy looking box and locks it, heading for the door. You grab him by the arm “No time” you say, and teleport the two of you to your shack. You see Rainya, Dev and Lirael enter and grabbing hold of them you manage, with considerable effort to get all of you quickly to the facility.

At the facility you and Lirael half-carry Rainya to one of the medical bays, you’ve no idea how most of this stuff works, but it seems like the right place to do this.

“What do I do?” asks Lirael uncertainly.

“Wait outside with the boys” you say “I can handle this”

“Ok” says Lirael, leaving the two of you alone.

With Rainya laid out on one of the beds you take a seat beside her and touch her lightly, your power flows into her and you wince inwardly, someone worked her over pretty hard. Rainya has lost blood, she’s bruised, beaten and has a lot of cracked and broken bones. It seems to be mostly blunt objects or fists and feet rather than weapons. You swallow before continuing your examination, Dusters have it pretty tough in the Hive and some guys don’t see you as people...despite her beating, there’s nothing in Rainyas injuries to suggest that she was raped, just beaten.

With the injuries assessed you use your power to start repairing them, reknitting bones and sealing up split flesh, smoothing away bruises and encouraging Rainyas body to produce more blood. Once its over Rainya seems to snap out of it “Shee” she says shakily “Where did you come from?”

“We’re at the research facility” you tell Rainya “You were hurt so we got you here and I patched you up, what happened?”

“Oh” says Rainya “Oh, um, thank you Shee it was my fault, I shouldn’t have, it was, um, thank you, I should go.” Rainya tries to get up from the bed but collapses back down, shivering.

“Rainya” you say gently “What happened?”
>>
Rainya closes her eyes, tears forming at the corners “It was work” she says “just, just a normal cleaning job, they said I stole, but I didn’t, I didn’t Shee and they...”

“Start at the beginning” you say “Your job, you clean rich Hivers houses with a company don’t you?”

Rainya nods “We get searched” she says “at the end of a job we all change clothes and a supervisor searches up, a woman for us, a man for the men” she says “and then the search the clothes, in case we stashed something. Grev is one of our supervisors, he...he searched my uniform and pulled out a ring, the owners wedding ring. I didn’t steal it Shee, I didn’t!” She grabs your arm.

“I believe you” you say “but why would he do that?”

Rainya looks away, embarrassed.

“C’mon” you say “You can tell me”.

Rainya continues the story “Grev is...a scumbag” she says “threatening the prettier girls, telling them he’ll have them fired if they don’t...y’know...with him. Some of them need the money to survive, so, well. Anyway, I guess there wasn’t that many of the prettier girls on this morning, he...he trapped me in the changing room when I was half-dressed and said I had to...I shoved him over and I ran” she says “And then on the last job of the day he says I took the ring.”

Rainya pauses. “Go on” you encourage “Then what?”

She continues in an unemotional, far away tone “A lot of rich hivers have personal guards” she says “So the owner of the house tells them to take me out and *teach the filthy duster thief her place*. Some of my friends got me back, and...and...” she closes her eyes, weeping.

Club of the Damned is so damned awesome, I wish we didn't pass it up first go. It helps us, our friends, and gives us a safe house in the middle of the Hive. It also gives us demon servants.
>>
Maybe we could have Lirael judge him?
>>
>>37462542
Either that or use Horror gaze on him till he's a gibbering wreck.
>>
>>37462533
I wished people would stop saying save house, its terrible as a save house compared to the facility.
Its advantages are completly different stuff.
Having a cover for a persona in the hive, being able to order all kinds of stuff without suspicion, having a source of income, and of course having a place for our friends to work.

>>37462542
No. We are perfectly capable of doing the judging he needs.
>>
>>37462554

>>37462542

>>
>>37462562
It's a safe house in the Hive because there are Fae and jammers in the Hive which may make using psychic abilities a risky business in future. A safe place, mystically hidden, that we can get to mundanely is valuable, at least in the Hive.
>>
>>37462603
>mystically hidden
Its not mystaclly hidden though.
The advantage of its position only means something if we need to stay after curfew, but its still a public place that can be easily found.
>>
>>37462533
>I wish we didn't pass it up first go
We passed it up for the same reason we passed up Infernal Focus, it wasn't, isn't, immediately useful, since we can make a lot of money already without it, and that was and is, the main big advantage.
All the other stuff is neat, but nor "necessary".
>>
“Grev is gonna pay” you say quietly to Rainya, holding her hands tightly in yours “No one hurts those I care about and gets away with it.”

This prompts another bout of tears from Rainya “Shee” she says “You’re so good to me and I didn’t do anything to deserve it and I messed up and you’ll probably hate me and-”

“Shh” you say “I don’t hate you.”

“But I lost you your job” she sobs

Wait, what?

“I told them you were sick” she says “And they said don’t bother coming back, I’m sorry.”

“It’s ok” you say, comforting her “It’s not your fault, I’ll talk to them, it’s not your fault.”

You hold Rainya until she drifts off to sleep, and then you go out to see the others.
--
Outside you see a worried Dev and Lirael, and an impassive Charun.

“Is Rainya going to be ok?” asks Lirael as soon as you come out.

“Her injuries are healed” you say “She just needs to rest” You give them a very brief account of what happened, if Rainya wants to tell them the full story later, that’s her call.

“I can stay with her” volunteers Lirael “While she rests, I can look after Rainya.”

“Or I can” offers Dev.

The mutating power of the Ichor in the Depths flows into you, changing you. The Deep Mother offers 1 of 3 gifts.

Strength of the Mothers Love
You gain strength from the proximity of those you care deeply about. These can be close friends, family you care about, or anyone you want to help and/or protect strongly enough.
The bonuses are limited by the number of those you care about and the number of times you have selected this talent. To be counted as in proximity you must be able to see the person in question or they must be next to you (within 3 metres or so). All bonuses are morale bonuses.
At Strength of the Mothers Love 1: As long as you have one or more of those listed below nearby you gain: a +2 bonus to Will checks to resist any mind-affecting powers or abilities; and a +1 bonus on all skill rolls and ability checks.
Higher ranks allow larger bonuses and more varied bonuses as long as more of those you care about are nearby.
Those who currently qualify for the purposes of this power are: Ashley, Lirael, Rainya
This list may change over time.

Tentacles
You grow four 6ft-long tentacles on your body, typically emerging from your back. They appear as amorphous black and green limbs and have the same strength as your normal limbs. Higher ranks grant you more tentacles and make them stronger.
>>
So /tg any thoughts on why we haven't been visited by Kae in our dreams yet?
>>
Wishcrafting
Your psychic powers (and some gifts) are stronger when granting others desires.
At Wishcrafting 1 you may use the spoken wish (any spoken request or even an idly-voiced desire) of any creature you can see and hear to enhance any psychic power or Gift that requires a d20 roll, the power or gift must be used within 1 minute of the wish being uttered. The wish does not need to name the power, or even specifically request that you grant the wish, but the spell you cast must thematically follow the wish in order to use this ability (following the spirit of the wish, not the wording). You cannot use this ability to directly benefit yourself. Once you have granted a creatures wish you cannot grant a wish for that creature for 24 hours. When using the ability to grant a wish you add your degree in Wishcrafting to the Willpower check.
Later levels grant much larger bonuses to specific (player-nominated) powers when granting wishes, can be used to compel a creature into making a wish, allow you to twist the meaning of a wish, and allows access to powers beyond your normal abilities – but only when granting wishes.

10 minutes until voting time, votes before the vote is called will not count.

They are only retracted during hiding. We "can" get both, but its a bit too busy for my taste, design wise, if you will.

Any shout of "shoot it Shee" gives us a bonus, andy "plase heal me". Its just a matter of them saying it.

To be fair, the early level is limited a bit, thats why we didn't get it the first time, but its less limited than Mothers love.Which relies on us having specific people right next to us.
And of those available, only Rainya has a chance of being nex tto us in a average combat situation.
>>
>>37463352
>They are only retracted during hiding.
So we hide them when not in use? Why would you worry about aesthetics in a war form, seriously.

>And the fact that she saw demonic magic without even trying to
Fae can see magic as a racial trait and we took no measures to hide it.

>They don't stack.
They do. Each cloaking power we have makes our disguise that much harder to pierce. This has been confirmed.

The power of the Ichor in the Depths responds to your desire to help those around you, expanding your powers when granting wishes.

“Sweet!” says Dev, examining the weapons “This is awesome!” As Dev runs around like an over-excited child Charun says to you quietly “This little lot will fetch a high price if you want me to sell it Shee.”

“I know” you say “but...”

“But you don’t know which bits you want to keep” says Charun, nodding understandingly “I get that, no rush.”
---
“So these are robots” says Dev, poking one of the half-built robots in the classroom “they don’t do much, do they?”

“Hah!” says Charun “They can do, if you’ve got the right person controlling them.” He whistles, looking around the room “This too could fetch a lot of credits girl, but it’s your find, I’ll leave the decision up to you.”

Charun looks at you expectantly as Dev continues to poke around, looking bored.

I just mentioned the sword as a idea to remember. Everyone gets their gear, don't worry.

Of course he isn't going to agree, but again, we should start high and end somewhere above 50%.
>>
>>37464064
Lol
By that logic CEO's should only make 1/4th of what their factory workers make.
>>

No, thats not at all comparable.
Not even remotly.
A CEO does a lot more for the success of his company then Charun did for the success of getting this equipment.

Do you really not know that brokers are a thing that actually exists?
You don't need to make some wildly inaccurate comparison, when he is literally offering his service as a broker.
>>

By your logic Real Estate agents should take an 80% cut for selling a house.
>>
>>37464064
He's still the one taking the most risk, he's the one the connections to make the sales, and he's the one that showed us this facility in the first place. 40% sounded much more reasonable.
>>
>>37464127
Which is why he is brokering. That is how it works. You think a real estate agent gets 20%! cut.
>>
>>37464106
We picked one lock.
He showed us the facility in the first place, and is going to transport these weapons illegally, at risk, to connections he has that we don't. You're saying we deserve 80% for picking one lock, and claiming that was the majority of the work when it clearly is not.

Sure that CEO example was overdoing it, but you questfags are too retarded to get anything more subtle.
>>
>>37464155
>He showed us the facility in the first place
For an entirely different purpose, if he would have shown us the storages, you would have a point.

>and is going to transport these weapons illegally
He does that already anyway.

> to connections he has that we don't
Which is why he is brokering instead of us doing it ourselves

>deserve 80% for picking one lock
And finding it in the first place

You seriously need to learn how haggling works if you think we should go with the lowest cut for ourselves first.
And you should never enter business if you think a 20-40% cut is anything but utterly ridiculously good for a brokering service, even a high risk one.
>>
“I’ll pick out the bits I want” you say “or that we might need, the rest...you can sell the plasma weapons and the ordinary computers, but the robots and the X-3 are mine.”

“I’m fine with that” says Charun “we can-”

“I’m not finished” you say “I found them, Charun, this is a lot of money you wouldn't have gotten at all without me.” You give him a hard look “Especially since you didn't even bother telling me about it. 20%, for you. If you want a bigger cut from the next haul, you should start telling me about where the other storages are.”

“20%?” says Charun in a choked-sounding voice “Absolutely not”

You fold your arms and grin at him, “It’s my find” you say “you said the decision was up to me.”

Charun shakes his head “That’s not happening” he says.

What do you do?
>No deal then

The power of the Infinite Mirror changes you, showing you reflections of yourself, what you could be...

Choose 1 of 3 gifts.

Adaptive Mutation
You can temporarily gain mutations suited to your environment. You might grow armour if under attack, or thick fur if out in the cold. Each mutation costs 3 psychic energy to develop and lasts for the encounter (some mutations may cost more).
This power only counts as magical for detection purposes in the few seconds it is actively used, after that it does not register as magic.
Expansions include making mutations permanent by spending XP, gaining the mutations of others by touching them, or even taking on anothers appearance

Clouded Reflection
None of your Gifts with obvious physical effects show on your form unless you are using them or wish them to show. This Gift does not have higher ranks, sufficiently powerful magic can pierce this disguise. Stacks with other Gifts that hide mutations/physical changes.

Split Self
This works the same as Rainyas Duplication power but the XP costs to gain extra ranks is higher (8XP/rank) and you need to spend Psychic Energy to use it.
Expansions include making a duplicate *permanent* (no PE cost to summon), splitting just your mind (one body with 2 minds: one controls the body whilst the other uses psychic powers or purely mental gifts) and Combining (fusing with another person physically and mentally) to combine your powers and abilities.

You feel the power of the Infinite Mirror changing you, allowing you to physically adapt to situations.

“I *may* move on price” you say to Charun “if you offer me something else”. The two of you set to bargaining. After going back and forth for a bit, you’ve pushed Charun as far as he’s willing to go.

“30% for you” he says “70% for me” he says “Final offer”

“That’s a lot considering I found it” you say

“And I’ll be transporting and selling it” he counters “As well as dealing with all the assholes and scum who will try to swindle us both.”

“Still” you say “That’s a lot, and you know there’re other vaults down here, you could have told me.”

Charun grins at you in an unsettling manner “Ok” he says “How about this: I give you 90% on this, and on 14 of the other 17 places I know about, on the condition that you break into the other 3 first – and that the contents of those 3 are wholly mine.”

“That sounds like a con” you point out “The 14 could be empty”

“I swear they are not” he says “They have riches comparable to what you found today. If they don’t, then I’ve failed my side and the deal is off.”

“What’s in the other 3?” you ask. Charun just smiles and doesn’t answer.

What do you say?

>Fine, 30/70 it is
>No deal
>90/10 and the three vaults are yours

>>

>>
>>37464917
No, its not. Its a regular establishment that already exists and will just be handed over to us, through the machinations of the KIng of Hells cult. So we can totally use money to change and improve it.

We 'might' get to upgrade it with XP in the form of supernatural assistance.
>>
“Fine” you say grudgingly “30/70 it is”.

“A pleasure doing business with you” says Charun, and you shake on it, with little enthusiasm.
---
With that decided you decide to spend the evening with Rainya, making sure she is ok. Lirael stays with you as Dev and Charun count the guns, robots and computers you’ve found.

Rainya drifts in and out of consciousness all evening. Physically she’s uninjured but healing so much in a short space of time has clearly exhausted her.

Sometimes when she comes around, she’s rambling a little.

“I don’t know how my powers work sometimes” she says, coming awake “and I don’t know why they are stuck, maybe I should get stronger but I was always told to hide my powers and my father was killed for having powers so maybe I shouldn’t have them and maybe I don’t deserve them.” Rainya drifts off again

A few minutes later she wakes again, looks around and sees you and asks an odd question “Shee can you help me use my powers.”

“Uh how?” you ask

“I don’t know” she responds “You just seem good at fixing things.”

Lirael has dozed off in the chair, it’s just you and Rainya, how do you respond?

That wasn't the reason, that was just why it doesn't 'need' answering.
The reason why I think it would be best to not answer it, is because people might get the idea they need to start seeking out and befriending every single named character that gets introduced so Pally doesn't kill them off and they lose the opportunity to.
And that'd be silly.
>>
“We’ll figure it out together” you tell Rainya

“Really?” she asks “You promise?”

“Of course” you say “Maybe Lirael and I could have a look inside your-”

“Oh good...yeah...” says Rainya, drifting off once again. Ah well, another time perhaps.

You stay with Rainya late into the night. Finally Dev and Charun come back, they talk to you outside the medical bay in low voices “Ok” says Charun “I think all-told you’re looking at total value two and a half-million, depends on how much I can squeeze the buyers for, and how much you want to keep for personal use.”

“And that’s..?” you ask

“Just the plasma weapons and the regular computers yes” confirms Charun “It’ll take a while to shift of course, so money won’t come all at once, but I’ll let you know when it comes in.”

Uh huh, and if he cheats you, you’ll find out somehow...

Dev yawns, Charun looks at him and says “Yeah, you kids should get some rest.”

“And you” says Dev.

“Maybe” says Charun “but not here, this place always gave me the creeps, I’ll go back to Dust Town when you’re ready Shee.”

After taking Charun back to Dust Town you return to the Psychic Research facility to ensure that everyone is properly bedded down. You grab some blankets and a chair in Rainyas room, just too be safe.
---
You’re in the Hive, but its deserted, there’s no one around, that’s weird, how did you get here? Is that your families home over there? You start to head towards the place you once lived when you hear a voice behind you.

“Finally you dream” says the voice, you turn around to see a cross-looking Kae. Invisible forces surround you and you are dragged before her and forced to your knees, your clothes peeling away and chains appearing on your wrists, and ankles.

You look up at Kae’s wrathful countenance in fear and worship as she glares down at you saying “And now we talk”.
>>
Underneath it all you can hear a part of your mind yelling at you that this is what dreaming feels like. It’s been so long, you forgot what dreams were...

Metapost

As of next thread the hot-button topic of Romance will be back on the cards. Here’s how its going to work.

Romance Options

I have several NPCs designated as primary love interests for Shee. Spotting them won’t be hard.

These NPCs will at some point make a move (more than once if not firmly refused) on Shee. Players can go with it, put them off or shut them down firmly. If shut down they will not be proactive (romantically) but can still be romanced by player write-in.

Shee can, at player request (write-ins) attempt to romance (almost) any NPC in the quest. This will be harder than going with a primary romance option and Shee will have to work for it, but it is possible.

NPCs that are truly off-limits for romance will be made explicit if write-ins appear for them, but they are few.

Sex scenes

Will be few and far between. They will only be permitted with NPCs Shee has spent some time romancing.

Inappropriate (or early) write-ins for this will either be ignored, or included in dialogue but with someone getting turned down, or may be joked about.

Multiple Romances/Harem

Feel free to reach for the stars. If you want a group romance or multiple separate romances, go for it. It will be difficult to get, without simply using your powers to make everyone do what you want (though the King of Hell would approve I think).

Generally, if an NPC knows you’re in a relationship they will be much harder to convince, and even main NPC romance options will not push it.

In short, if pursuing romance through regular means, picking one will (almost) routelock that romance by cutting off other paths. But using your powers to get what you want at any cost means the field is truly open.

I welcome feedback, comments etc. I may change this plan based upon player feedback. I realise this will result in future shitstorms, but I don’t plan on having Romance take centre stage, but to be a subplot at best.
>>
>>37465480
I was getting really comfortable in the eye of this shitstom. But I guess I wouldn't be so lucky.

What are you going to do if we shut down all attempts to make a move?

His idea of *romance* really wouldn't mesh with Shee's at all.
>>
>>37465896
Ovipositors and mind-rape harems? Please lead me to that magic place Pally
>>
>>37465955
Please be joking. Seriously.
>>
>>37465896
Sorry Pally, but I'm more into Corruption.

The things we'll do with those tentacles and tail
>>
>>37465975
I'm not.
But this isn't the place for it.

Well maybe the Ovi..
>>
Well this already goes places.

Thats going to be interesting from now on.

>>37465977
>>37466013
I'm watching both of you closely from now on.
>>
>>37465951
I suppose we'll find out, we are probably going to see a lot more Quinn in the future.
>>
>>37465977
>>37466013
Anons, seriously. Please don't insert fetishes, please actually confirm whether you're joking or not as I'm too sleep-deprived and autistic to properly recognize it if you are.
>>
>>37466112
Since I have no ability to insert any fetishes into this quest, there is nothing for you to worry about.

I'm not joking, but I'm not a idiot.
This isn't a /d/ quest.
There is a place for my fetishes, this isn't it.
Whatever fetishes Pally brings into it, is his concern.
>>
>>37466112
You can't really keep "fetishes" out of a quest that will explicitly have smut.
I mean seriously, you think what we do with Lirael isn't 'someones' fetish?
I'm not going to push for anything, because I gain nothing by this quest being ripped apart by the ensuing shitflinging.
I want Tail or Tentacle because it provides actual and significant advantage.
The fact that it happens to fit into my getishes, is among the reasons why have sofar abstainted from voting for it, before its not absolutely clear to be actually a good option for us.
>>
oh and thenaks for running pally! You and this thread are both aces!
>>
I really don't think a romance in this quest is going to be worth the trouble it will cause. They rarely are.
>>
>>37466374
Eh, I've seen a few romances go over mostly painlessly and be well worth it. It's an optional thing anyway and won't be the focus even if it happens, so I'm not too worried.
>>
>>37466374
To be fair, it worked out better than expected in PoJ.
But that was faaaar later into the story and thread-count.
It will not be as harmonious this time.

>>37466415
It will be a focus through the players being so concerned with it, regardless of if the story is.
>>
>>37466445
>It will not be as harmonious this time.
I dunno, it seems like Sara has already gotten a decent foothold.

It was later in the story and thread count, yeah, but 16 threads before romance is even mentioned is still a better position than most quests.

>It will be a focus through the players being so concerned with it
The only thing I can think of that I'm concerned about with romance at the moment is avoiding the mind-rape harem.

We might get into waifu war bullshit, or we might just have a near-unanimous victory for Sara in like six threads, or we might just not have romance, who knows.
>>
>>37466627
>or we might just have a near-unanimous victory for Sara
Sara will be by far the hardest to pursue though, anons are impatient people.
But we'll see.

I'm only interested in preventing the waifu-warring from negatively affecting our wonderful daughteru.
