>Rolled 7, 7, 6 = 20 (3d10)
>2 Pass
>Success

With the combined effort of you, Nivah, Cael'la, Loric and some assistance from your new tuk'ata companion, you all channel the force gritting your teeth under the extreme effort and lifting the massive dune worm into the air. You let out a roar, surging with power as the best lifts higher and higher until it is now twenty feet off the ground. Through a clenched jaw Cael'a speaks.

"Now... what do we do?"

>What do you do?

>Slam it into the ground with all your might to try and daze the beast
>Have your allies hold it as you force just onto the, retrieve your second blade and deal with this personally
>Try and collectively choke it, and destroy it's windpipe
>Force pull your vibroblade toward you

Starting now I will be implementing a Force Point system.
These points can be burned in order to negate a Critical Failure
You can only have a maximum of three points at any time, and you will regain one point at the end of every thread.
Keep in mind this will mean that the DCs of very difficult tasks will be for appropriate than before, as you have a means of negating the more harsh consequences that you may incur during failure.
Now this is a new system and I am open to criticisms on how to better balance, refine or generally improve this system.

That will probably kill/cripple it. Elephants can't jump for a reason, their own mass would break their legs if they tried.
>>

Brine how much time do we have before sunset?
Cause I get the feeling we aren't gonna get to go after the dragon unless we want to walk all the way back to the academy.
>>
>>37467545
I'd bump it down to one point per thread, critfails are very rare.
>>
>>37467545
>you will regain one point at the end of every thread.
>the DCs of very difficult tasks will be for appropriate than before

Might I suggest making us earn them with good judgement or epicness, instead of handing them out at the end of threads.

This would make us less likely to spend them like candy to hand wave poor judgement and prevent the need to change the DCs so much.
>>
>>37467727
Uh, you already get a point per thread?
>>
- - - - - - - - - - -
>>37467697
Probably about four/ five hours.
If you were quick you'd have a fair shake at killing the dragon and getting back in time.
>>
>>37467545
>>Slam it into the ground with all your might to try and daze the beast
I think theres a word missing from the second option.

>Force Point system
Maybe have it regen a single point every 2-3 threads and not alter the DC's?
>>
>>37467766
I mean we can only do it once per thread. No pool of 3 max.
>>
>>37467675
Right, but this is a worm.
>>
>>37467767
hmmmm, that isn't as bad as I thought.
>>
>>37467758
maybe if we earned one every 3 or so threads and could earn another for something epic to earn another?
>>
- - - - - - - - - - -
>>37467758
Hm, so if you make intelligent choices or maybe on crit success you gain one back. That might be a better system.

>>37467727
This might be easier or keep track of

I'll see how this plays out and maybe change it with the next thread
>>
>>37467545
>Slam it into the ground with all your might to try and daze the beast
let's do this
>Force pull your vibroblade toward you
we were specifically warned not to do this.
>>
>>37467789
True, but it's a fuckhuge burrower. It's biology was never designed to take that kind of treatment.

If this thing is anything close to realistic (it might not be, so ignore this), the shock of a fall like that would rupture every organ in its body.
>>
- - - - - - - - - - - -
>>37467842
Yes you were
It is still however a thing you can do
Plus I like to make sure people have been paying attention
>>
>>37467824
Personally I think having a pool of 3 to start with and 3 max and regenerating them once every few threads like 2 to 3, and allowing for them to be given for appropriate actions like intelligent choices and crit successes would balance it out so we're not rolling in them and save them for moment we really need them. It would also mean you wouldn't have to ramp up the DC's to counteract the abundance of them if we get them that sparsely and use them sparsely.
>>
>>37467912
Hm, alright in that case since the thread has just started I'll defer to this system for now and see how it pans out
>>
>>37467912

>>
>>37468041
for critfails of all kinds I imagine
>>
>>37468041
Yes

>>37467977
I'm considering allowing them for regular failures, especially because if I did I wouldn't change the rate at which you recover them and you would have to choose more carefully what you spend them on.

Thoughts?

>>37467999
What about it, I just picked it up for my random Sith folder
>>
>>37468041
Do 1d100 critfails even exist in this quest?
>>
>>37468092
yes, even if we haven't critfailed yet.
>>
>>37468089
>Thoughts?
You could make different adjustments cost different amounts of points. Critfail to normal fail costs one point, normal fail to normal pass costs 2, and critfail to normal pass costs 3 and empties your entire pool.

This way, you could also let us upgrade a normal pass to a crit success for 3 points, if we ever really want to do well on something.
>>
>>37468128
No offence, but I'd like QM's word on that.

Brine?
>>
>>37468089
>Thoughts?
I'd support that. It gives us the freedom to use them when we want, but forces us to spend them wisely or risk getting fucked by a critfail.
>>
>>37468089
>Thoughts?
Sounds like it might work, I don't know how well though, with the rate we'd go through them I'd probably stick with the first iteration of the system you posted in the OP but I'm probably biased a bit.

>>37468143
>Critfail to normal fail costs one point, normal fail to normal pass costs 2, and critfail to normal pass costs 3 and empties your entire pool.
That makes no sense when the biggest thing would be to negate a critfail, and a normal fail being negated turns it into a normal pass, which suddenly outweighs a critfail?

Sounds way too expensive
>>
>>37468089
Depending on what kind of level of success you want during the quest, you might want to consider force points as "momentum generators"--crit successes regenerate them, and they can be used to add a pass to any roll, turning crit fails into fails, fails into success, and success into crit success.
>>
>>37468143
I'd say make turning a critfail into a pass cost 2, but otherwise negating a crit fail or a normal fail should cost 1, we don't get them often enough to warrant the cost otherwise.
>>
>>37468198
>-crit successes regenerate them
Well currently thats how it would work as per >>37467912 where we auto regen one FP every few threads, but also get one for appropriately epic actions or crit successes.

>and they can be used to add a pass to any roll, turning crit fails into fails, fails into success, and success into crit success.
That sounds good, spend 1 to add 1 success, works intuitively and we don't gain them fast enough to be able to abuse them.
>>
>>37468212
Seconding this
>>
>>37468185
I dunno, we had a critfail last thread and it didn't seem much worse, or any worse, than some normal failures

>>37468212
We also don't fail/critfail enough to really warrant these points. I tried to lay it out in a way that will force us to still fail and critfail some rolls.
>>
>>37468275
We pretty much broke our arm, thats very bad when we need to use it to fight and defend ourself

>We also don't fail/critfail enough to really warrant these points. I tried to lay it out in a way that will force us to still fail and critfail some rolls.
Just because we've only done it once doesn't mean we won't do it more often, especially with higher DC actions anon
>>
>>37468198
This working in line with >>37468260 sounds good.
>>
>>37468260
Sounds fair
>>
>>37468307
>We pretty much broke our arm, thats very bad when we need to use it to fight and defend ourself
Good! It's boring when everything goes just as planned, now we need to play careful and smart to get out of this.

>Just because we've only done it once doesn't mean we won't do it more often, especially with higher DC actions anon
I mean, this sounds really circular. We're using a new point system so we need higher DC's, and now we need the new point system because of the higher DC's. Why use the points at all then?
>>
>>37468411
>We're using a new point system so we need higher DC's
But we don't, that's why I came up with >>37467912 to help balance it out so that the DC's don't need to change and so we're not swimming in FPs. It's not circular at all.
>>
>>37468434
Would those be usable on critfails only or normal fails too?
>>
>>37468434
Except that's still too many, and we would be swimming in FP's.
>>
>>37468448
They would be usable like how >>37468198 & >>37468260 said, which means they become even scarcer.

>>37468478
Not when we can use them to add 1 success to the highest roll, to turn a critfail into a regular fail, to run a regular fail into a regular success, or even to turn a regular success into a crit success. That would mean we would be using them a lot more than just on critfails.

So no, we would not be swimming in them.

"Slam it into the ground, we might be able to cripple it... or even kill it that way."

With one mind your group uses the force to hurl the great beast downward into the ground as it flails and thrashes about. It collides into the ground with a foul noise as the muscles and innards of a beast never meant to exist above ground are crushed under it's own mass. A few errant squirms and shudders roll through the creature's frame before it finally lays still. After several desperate sigh and panting all around Cael'la is the first to speak after she takes a moment to compose herself.

"Okay... now how am I supposed to take this thing's head with me?

You try to stifle a laugh, but fail as the absurdity of what you just did strikes you, Nivah chuckles softly too as Loric simply looks at the three of you dumbfounded. The tuk'ata seems to share Loric's sentiment and shakes his head. The two have a brief exchange, likely at your expense.

>What do you do?

>Tell Nivah to just rip one of the things teeth out or something, Jorrak would probably agree to it considering the size of the thing
>Tell her she should have found something with a smaller head
>Shrug and just take your time to recover
>Ask if she's ready to fight a krayt dragon

- - - - - -
>>37468173
It is possible on paper, but the math makes it play out so that it's basically a moot point. Anything bellow a 15 is considered a crit fail, but when you have six rolls that count it's almost impossible to roll that low.

>>37468198
>>37468260

Alright, I've decided to go according to the system these two posts have laid out for now.
If I feel like you guys are just swimming in points or that the system just isn't working we'll adjust as we go

>>37468478

"Just rip out one of the thing's teeth. I'm sure Master Jorrak would okay it and Master Xalia is your Master so unless she's just cruel to her apprentices she'll likely allow it. All you would need to do is convince Master Vessa. Besides, we might find something with a more portable head on our way."

While you speak you inspect your right arm and asses the damage. The wounds that had begun to scab are now freshly re-opened and seem to be rather badly ravaged by the fall scraping them against the sand. Unfortunately unlike most of the other force abilities you just managed to intuition your way into using, healing is... complicated. It requires a great deal of focus and finesse, or at least according to what Master Yval told you. You could certainly give it a shot but you might botch it and make things worse. You mull over this and walk over to the massive worm, ripping your blade from it's flesh and returning it to it's rightful spot.

"So, ready to fight the krayt dragon?"

You ask as Cael'la finally frees one of the beasts massive fangs.

"You're seriously still considering that? Look at your arm! We're exhausted and that thing is going to be even bigger than the dune worm."

For a moment you sense genuine concern in Cael'la's voice.

See if we can just direct the Force into the arm and hold some energy there.
It's an empowering and life giving energy. Just doing that should have some positive effect, if not fully healing.

Depends on who does it
You have a strong natural connection to the force, but it's also rather... wild.
You lack precision and finesse with your force abilities for now.
You'd have to ask the others for an assessment on their abilities.

"Cael'la, Nivah, do either of you think you can try and heal my arm. My connection to the force is too chaotic. Good for smashing things... not fixing them."

Nivah is the first to speak.

"M-Master Jorrak says I have excellent precision skills! But I've never tried anything as complex as healing."

Cael'la speaks up afterward, her eyes flicking from Nivah to you, then back to Nivah.

"I'm a fair balance of power and control, if Nivah does it it's likely it'll be done better but slower, taking away time from finding this blasted dragon. If I do it it'll likely be faster but... more room for error. That's of course if we even manage to heal it in the first place."

"Nivah, can you please heal my arm? With something like this I'd value precision."

She lights up as you defer to her and kneels next to you, holding your ravaged arm in her hand, closing her eyes and focusing on her connection to the force. A soothing rush of relief washes over your arm as your skin slowly begins stitching back together. After about twenty minutes your arm feels much better, and where there were once large gashes there are now newly formed scars that run across your forearm.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -
I considered making you guys roll for this, but it doesn't make much sense for you to roll for the performance of another player character, so I did some configuring and decided that if Nivah was chosen she would succeed but at the cost of time. Had you chosen Cael'la there would have been a 'chance' roll for something to go wrong.

Well first you have to track the dragon, and it's been so long since you've heard that initial roar that honestly all you have is a general idea of where that came from.

You have about three and a half hours left until you are expected to return to the shuttle.

From where you are now it should only take you about 30/45 min to get back. For the dragon it depends on how quickly you find it.

You stand and look to the sky, considering the task you are about to attempt you want to make sure you have the time to do it. Simply scouting out the dragon should be no problem, however if you should decide to fight it then it might turn into a race against time itself. You rally your allies and begin to make your way in the general direction that you believe the roar originally came from all those hours ago.

"I see it."

You say solemnly to your group.

"Wait how?"

Loric asks and you respond by tapping the frame of your eye. You nod your party onward and begin making your way toward the great and terrible beast. As you proceed you hear the tuk'ata say something in Sith to Loric, who makes a slight face before repeating it.

"Um... he wants to know why it is you had him pledge fealty to you then decided to commit a group suicide."

Cael'la looks to Loric then to you.

"That actually reminds me, how the hell did you manage to get a tuk'ata to do anything other than rip fight you to the death?"

"Hey Nivah."

You ask, clearly intending to be heard by more than just Nivah.

"When did I become the local information booth?"

Nivah stifles a snicker while Cael'la rolls her eyes and looks at you expectantly.

"We killed it's pack. I offered it a spot in mine. It's an animal thing.

You flash Cael'la a quick smile before turning to Loric.

"Tell him we're just scouting for now. If we don't see any openings we can exploit, we'll just leave it."

Loric nods and relays the information. If something with four legs could shrug you're pretty sure that's what you saw the tuk'ata just do. Cae'la takes your answer for what it is and continue walking. As time passes you near the top of the dune and already you can see the hulking form of this massive creature, all muscle and horn as it stalks the desert. You see it's neck tense and it quickly turns it's head toward you.

"Down!"

You whisper harshly as the great beast turns it's head. You barely manage to escape it's notice and it slowly turns back around to whatever it was doing in the first place. Loric's eyes are wide with fear, and you can sense distress emanating from everyone, even Cael'la.

"Okay, we've scouted it. It's really fucking big. Shocking. Can we please not fight this thing right now?

Cael'la whispers fiercely. Nivah glances at you biting her lip softly. She trusts you, but she's clearly afraid.

"Alright, you guys are right, we're too worn out for this let's head back."

You say slightly disgruntled. After everything you've been through today it certainly is the smarter option, however leaving without giving a crack at it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. You suppose there's nothing preventing you from coming back another time, even after you've graduated and fighting this thing once you've grown as a fighter.

It takes about an hour for you to make your way back to the gate, the sky has begun to fade a dark shade of orange when finally you are face to face with Master Jorrak. He and everyone else by the gate tense when they see the tuk'ata at your side but you shake your head and explain that the beast is with you.

"Uh... I can't say I've ever had an apprentice come back with a beast in tow... I suppose we have room for him. Well, present your heads and you'll be allowed to pass."

You, Nivah and Loric all present your heads and are allowed to pass, however when it comes to Cael'la she is instructed to wait.

"That's a fang not a head."

Master Jorrak notes.

"We killed a dune worm, how the hell was I supposed to bring back it's head?"

Master Jorrak nods and looks to his peers. Master Xalia nods as well, however when they look to Master Vessa she wears an evil grin,

"My dear, I don't care if you had to get a ten man team to move that thing with you. No head, no entrance."

>What do you do?

I just got home and caught up, thanks for the thread Brine.

Whatever happened to our plan of getting another beast head before scouting the Dragon?
>>
>>37473619
We are a Sith, we're not a retard.
>>
>>37473687
we thought the tooth from a dune worm would be good enough
>>
>>37473736
I specifically remember saying that we would get another head as insurance just in case of this event, because a tooth is not a head, right after we took the tooth.
>>
>>37473650
Everyone decided to pussy out, despite being healed up, in a group of four, and passing the stealth roll on approach. Go figure.
>>
>>37473799
i got nothing for you then.
>>
>>37473872
We decided to be smart instead of committing suicide you idiot.
>>
>>37473894
We knew we could take it.
>>
>>37473894
No you faggot, you decided to pussy out. We could have at least actually scoped out the environment, to determine the viability of our plan. It wasn't like we had to attack the thing suicidally.

Instead, it roared and we ran the fuck away. Because reasons.
>>
>>37473937
You mean couldn't, because we are in no shape, nor strong enough, and there will be ample opportunities in the future.

>>37473953
>It wasn't like we had to attack the thing suicidally.
Except that's what you were voting for. Picking your battles and being sensible about stalking a predator that powerful when we're tired and worn out, in the fading light after a long days strenuous work is not pussying out you retard.
>>
>>37473953
we werent fresh you moron. We had been out in the desert all day and had gotten into multiple fights. There was no way we were going to take it out without losses and get back to the academy in time
>>
>>37473987
>You mean couldn't, because we are in no shape, nor strong enough, and there will be ample opportunities in the future.
No, i mean we were healed up and the GM had already told us it was possible.
>>
>>37473953
>to determine the viability of our plan
We did exactly that, and the viability of our plan was "this shit ain't gonna work, so we'll come back when it will"
>>
>>37474045
Yes, it was possible, and it likely would have been extremely hard, and guess what?

ITS STILL FUCKING POSSIBLE YOU FLAMING RETARD

We're going to come back and stalk it in the future and when we're ready, we'll fight it on our terms.
>>
>>37474045
healed up doesn't mean not tired, we were also timed. Also getting 2 10s on a combat roll is possible but how likely is it?
>>
>>37474026
>>37473987
We were entirely recovered from those fights, geniuses. You think those covered twelve hours of activity? We healed our arm and rested up.

And no, there was a very specific plan set up. Have the heavies sit back in a half circle and force push the thing, while the dog and the bait crept in and out to slash and wound and take advantage. Finish with force pushing a blade at it. None of that was beyond us.
>>
>>37474111
Stop being mad and go have a nap mate. You're just making yourself look like an idiot.
>>
IIRC, aren't there tales of ancient Sith whose primary shtick was controlling wild beasts? I think we found Lorric's special talent. He'll make an excellent Beast Master and minion. The best minions always come with minions of their own.
>>
>>37474111
Do you honestly think if we failed even one roll we'd still be breathing? It's big strong, fresh, tough and fairly fast. We mess up once we die. It's possible for us but it wasn't necessary.

>>37474141
Seems like.
>>
>>37474111
>We were entirely recovered from those fights, geniuses
No we were not, Nivah healed our arm, thats it, she didn't magically give us back all the energy we expended throughout the day, nor did she give back everyone elses.

We set out at 8am, we took on the sand worm at around 3-4pm, that is a long day under a harsh sun.

Yet apparently you think we stepped off the shuttle, scratched our arm, had it bandaged and then sauntered over to the dragon and thought "meh I'm going home".

Stop being moronic.
>>
Chibs here, thank you for your patience, your order of "Nivah's bikini cheesecake" will arrive shortly after the next thread is up.

But didn't we have the force points to prevent dice failures?
>>
>>37474174

>>

Yes but the fight will be long and Dc fuck awfully high. Jedi have trouble dealing with these things in combat. Which is why Sith aim them at jedi.

The only one bitching out right now is your faggoty mad ass.
>>
>>37474264
Jedi get hit once they could die, it'd take a master or plot armor to reliably solo one. I can see a sith beastmaster sending a krayt at some jedi and while their busy trying to hack it to bits picking them off.

>>37474493
Seriously, do Americans not get how big 30 meters is? It's the size of a blue whale. It could crush a house by swatting it with it's tall. It could easily crush us just by lying down on top of us. It's got skin so thick it requires industrial mining explosives to kill and we were going after it on foot.

Revan goes after one on Tattoonie during KotOR and the guy who's hunting it straight up tells him not to bother with his guns or his lightsaber. And he had a full group of trained professional killers with him to boot.
>>
>>37474567
So you claim that carrying a saber is what makes you a Jedi Knight or a Sith?

You, sir, disgust me.
>>
>>37474567
Well Revan and the Exile COULD in theory but that's a stupid argument. Kyle Katarn did I think.
>>
>>37474531
He trained under Dooku.
>>
>>37474606
But he didn't have the force to help him in ranged confrontations is the guys point.
>>
>>37474606
All Dooku did was teach him saber combat, Grevious isn't force sensitive.
>>
>>37474606
He was a supreme commander of the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and he was trained ONLY in the arts of Lightsaber combat. Nothing else.

See
>>37474593
>>
>>37474593
no i wanted to know why some one wants a shit weapon when the could be using the superior weapon and training in the force
>>37474594
i have kyle katarn is so i will look him up later.
>>
>>37474696
>a shit weapon when the could be using the superior weapon
When I'm 30 meters away from you what will you do then when you can't throw your sword?

Go fuck yourself with your 'superior' weapon. They are tools to be used, not wanked over you moron.
>>
>>37474724
no but i can block and reflect your shots so what now?
>>
>>37474724
Well, deflected, dodged, or otherwise avoided. Jedi seem to do pretty well for themselves in virtually all situations. But that's not really the lightsaber, it's the force and their skills.
>>
>>37474574
No, it's definitely a tough fucker.

But that's not the point. The post I was responding too talked about it being something only masters could take on, and Sith using them to hunt Jedi - that doesn't seem true. It's not resistant to the force in the way actual force sensitive hunting beasts are.
>>
>>37474696
Blaster are quick to use, lethal, and don't give away that we are a Force user. Right now we don't have any lethal ranged abilities.
>>
>>37474696
>no i wanted to know why some one wants a shit weapon when the could be using the superior weapon and training in the force

That's not what the argument was about, but I'll humour you; A blaster can be just as efficiant if used correctly and by a person with the right knowledge and intelligence to outsmart a Jedi.

Great examples would be the following characters:

>Boba AND Jango Fett

Both great Bounty Hunters of their time that posed a great threat to Jedi knights and force sensitive vigilantes.

>HK-47

A droid that was literally called a "Jedi Killer" and he/it only used blasters and rifles.

I could go on with the list, but you get the gist.

Sometimes a blaster is prefered over a more "civilized weapon" and great Jedi Knights and Sith recognize this fact.
>>
>>37474724
Blow you up with my mind.
>>
>>37474777
I meant more in the through it at them as a distraction and use said distraction to pick the others off. It'd also be a damn useful warbeast.
>>
>>37474303
If EVERYONE in the party wasn't exhausted, I could see us having a shot. Do what we did to the dune worm. Lift and drop. It's an elongated quadruped. Their spines can't take compression very well. If we rotated it onto its head, we could have snapped its neck with a big enough drop. But with everyone tired from a hard day's marching back and forth across the desert, fighting various vicious beasts and idiots, and drawing deeply on the force. There was no way we'd pull off the Dune Worm trick again without serious group practice.

that Said, I vote Lorric gets recruited into our crew. Who was his instructor again?

Also, let slip that Rodrik sent the hit squad after us, have Lorric back us up on it. Lorric is the only witness to the conspiracy, we can pretty much blame the disappearance of half the students on Rodrick. He won't be punished for it because there's no evidence, but it will keep anyone else from allying with him if we spread it around that he's untrustworthy and abandoned his allies.

>>37474374
Yes please.

>>37474300
We took out an entire pack of Tuk'Ata, an assassination squad, and a Dune Worm. I think we earned our stripes. Oh, and Nivah is working on perfecting a technique PRACTICALLY NO OTHER SITH practices.

Also, are we the first ones back yet? Because if we've still got time, we should start our levitating-meditation and ask the rest to join us while Lorric starts on the basics of whatever beast-tongue that is.
