Walking without being able to see anything at all is not, in fact, okay.

You make it a few feet, but inevitably are forced to de-roost your harpy, prying her off your head.
She settles for being carried, straining her neck to try and look smug towards Esmerelda.

You're not even sure the snake gets it.

In any case, with one predator/prey relationship developing, you opt out of dealing with it, increasing your speed just a tad.
Enough that people can keep up, anyway.

Sheszka is panting full swing, her tail wagging behind her as she power walks next to you. You aren't entirely certain that you adopted a wolf rather than a dog.

You reach the cliff soon enough, dropping a circular chunk to the forest below as your elevator. Sara glares until you restore it.
You were going to do it anyway. It was a joke, yes.

Everyone's pace takes another hike up as you near home. Warm beds, baths, food, less giant bears. It's enough to do a soul good.

There's still the matter of your sisters, though.

>Keep the pace, greet them.
>Sneak up!
>You're free of the falls. Ride the boat down the river.

Wouldn't be too sure abotu that.
We can hold our breath for ours and can use our earth magic to locate them without sight, deny them their own tremorsenses (though how effective they are in a river is questionable anyways and we can dig out deep enough groves for us to be fully submerged and even partially shielded from sight even if the water should be to shallow for that.

And then we should kidnap her and force Aria to try and rescue Elle.

Elle might be kind of easy to kidnap, so long as she doesn't have to do anything strenuous.

Your friends give you more than a few odd looks as you swing the boat back into the river.
They only get odder as you shuck most of your clothes, as well as Jin and your new snake into it as well.

You sink into the river, right up to your neck, gliding along the bottom of the river.
You do keep a hand to the boat's rope, though. No need to lose friends.
Let alone literally.

Sara helps herself into the boat, followed by Sheszka. Which, of course, leaves Lann to ask just what the hell you're doing.

"Lyra, what in any gods' name are you doing?"
"Sneaking, yes."
"And how is what you're doing now sneaking, in any way? And what are you sneaking for, even?"
"My sisters are up ahead, yes? I will stay underwater when we get closer."

The elf looks to your sister, who offers a helpless shrug.
Then she gets into the boat.

And off you go.

It's actually harder than dragging the boat upstream. Or more irritating, anyway.
You have to keep ahead, or it'll bounce off the back of your skull.

Your head-skull, not your butt-skull.

So it's essentially a very odd race down the river, where you are technically dragging the boat but kind of not, trying to keep ahead but not too far ahead, because if the rope pulls taut the boat skips forwards.
And bounces off your head.

Thankfully, it doesn't take too long to reach your siblings.

Elle isn't exactly one for rough-housing, so it's conversation that reaches your ears, rather than splashing.
You slip below the waves with nary a sound, setting the boat adrift and closing on your sisters.

They react pretty much exactly like you'd think. Calling out to the boat, to Sara. Waving.
Closer, closer.

You're almost next to Aria, now.

"Where's Lyra? She-"

Your sister is a hunter, through and through. Movement below the water is all she needs, and she turns, catching your eyes beneath the surface.
>>
>>37488947
It doesn't stop your from rearing out of the water like a long forgotten monster, but everyone knows you can't win everything.
Water cascades off your shell and skull as you explode out of the river, Elle shrieking as water flies in every direction.
You grab Ari, wrestling her deeper into the river as she laughs, trying to dunk you back where you came from.

Lann somehow manages to get Sara to put down her book long enough to drive the boat to shore.

You and Aria stagger back onto dry land shortly after, water pouring from your hair as Elle tries to chastise you.
"What are you even doing? That was-"

>>
>>37489175
Elle was too lazy and the brothers were too focused on quantity in their hunting contsets.
All three of them only got their first evolution while we were away.

Aria is pretty close to her second one though, as is Sara.
>>

Writing!
>>
>>37489210
>Aria is pretty close to her second one though
She is as close as Elle, if she hasn't evolved yet, it will only take a miniscule shove to get her to.
>>
>>37489253
How the hell would she be as close as Elle?
Elle already evolved and the second tier evolutions are visible enough that there's no way we wouldn't have noticed Aria having evolved.

The character sheets are all outdated one or two ingame days and, since Elle only needed to get the 100th level of the base form, it seems pretty clear that she managed to level up since then, whereas Aria, just like Sara, is still stuck at Tier 2 Lvl 99.
>>
>>37489183
We're focusing on Elle right now.
>>
>>37489360
>How the hell would she be as close as Elle?
Because both of them are level 99. So both of them were 1 level away by the time we got our newest update. While the brothers got put to 100 to indicate them having already evolved.

So obviously if Aria hasn't eolved yet, it isn't far away anymore.
>>
we should have heated ourselves up and just evaporated the water off...
>>
>>37489489
But then we couldn't give her a soggy hug.
>>
>>37489420
The comparison of Aria to Elle is still far less apt than the comparison of Aria to Sara, because Elle only needed to get the 100th level in order to evolve, whereas Aria and Sara both effectively need to get the 200th level to evolve.

That requires both more XP and comes with the caveat that they need to do more difficult things to get level appropriate encounters.

Sure, Aria is not far away from evolving, I never claimed she was, but the fact that Elle managed to scrape together those few XP needed to get her first evolution doesn't mean Aria is any closer than Sara to her second evolution.
>>
>>37489253
This makes absolutely no sense.

Elle has evolved.
Aria has not.
How the fuck could Aria be as close as Elle to evolving, when Elle has evolved but Aria has not?
>>
>>37489770
Because people don't seem to realize that the exp to go from 99 to 100 is vastly different based on what evo you currently are at. This is Elle's first, so of course she'd manage it faster than Aria, who already evolved once before.
>>
>>37489770

it is possible we did not notice Aria's evolution because we were busy wrestling with her, Aria is stood further from us and demanded our attention so we could clearly see her evolution...
Elle will likely make a fuss over not noticing her's first...
>>
You open your arms wide.
"Elle!"
"Wha-"
"You grew, yes!"
"I-"

She doesn't really get a chance to say any more than that- You close ground in a split second, wrapping your arms around her waist and lifting her off the ground in a ferocious hug.
"Hahaha- Ha! Good job!"
"Nngblagh! Leggo!"

You laugh again, pulling her tighter for a moment before you let her down. Mostly down. You only really picked up her front, to be honest.
Your laziest sister is pawing at her face, spitting.

"Pah! Pah! Agh- Too much hair!"
You flick a hand through the sopping mess topping your head, spraying Aria. Who immediately returns the favour.
But you are the eldest, so you ignore it, mature as you are.

"My hair is magnificent, yes."
"Your hair is ridiculous. You have more hair than I have web."
"If that were the case, you might actually leave the nest every once in a while."

Elle sticks out her tongue.

Ezzy speaks up, and you turn to face her.
And find that she is currently coiled on a platform made of Nin's hands, raised as high over her head as the moth can manage. You cock an eyebrow, and the moth cracks a grin in return.
"Are you all grown? How old is she?"
"This makes all my sisters, yes. But my brothers-"

Aria interrupts, shaking her head.
"They have grown too, yes. A day before Elle."
"Ah. Well, there you have it, from the mouth of my little sister."
"I am not little!"

You shrug, raising your palms with a grin.
"I am first, yes. That means I am the oldest. And that means that you are all my little sisters."
Aria crosses her arms, stamping her feet. Elle smiles, rolls her eyes, and turns to the snake.
>>
>>37490006

"I am Elle, yes? And this is Aria. What is your name?"
"Ah. I am Esmerelda, thank you."
There's a minute of greetings, cut short by Nin's arms starting to shiver uncontrollably. You take back your latest guest, and your amateur herald lets her arms drop to her sides.

"Are you going back now? Hmm- And why were you using the river, yes? Not the bath?"
Aria shrugs, and Elle blushes, scratching at the back of her neck.

"Elle?"
"Ah. If we bathed in the house... Mom would put us to work eventually, yes? Tell us we had taken long enough. But at the river, I can sun as long as I'd like..."
Aria raises her eyebrows as you start to laugh.
"Lazy. The laziest spider."
"I am just not as active, yes."

You think we actually missed the evolution of the sibling we were wrestling with for a significant time before we staggered back to land side by side with her, but still somehow were observant enough to notice Elle's evolution the moment we spared her the slightest bit of attention in spite of the fact that the physical changes that come with the second evolution are way more noticable?

Heading home first!
What responsible spiders!

Writing!
>>
>>37490184
Are you actually serious?

The first Evolution makes you a bit larger and your Chitin parts slightly more menacing.

The Half-Lord Evolution makes you larger, gives you two horns, makes your hair grow to waist length and embeds gems.
This is the least noticable Tier 2 evolution we know of and it's still significantly more noticable than the Evolution from Arachne to Widow Arachne, because the only really visible thing that gives you is a size increase.
>>
>>37490293
>The first Evolution makes you a bit larger and your Chitin parts slightly more menacing.
Except for how it made Lyras hair grow far longer, grow significantly larger and colored her completly red.

Not all evolutions function the same.
>>
>>37490269
Of course we're responsible! Any future queen must learn to be!
>>
>>37490337
Lyra's first was far from the norm, though, because she had a Blessing.
>>
>>37490344
Nin, gods dammit get off the internet!
>>
>>37490351
Which was the point of not all evolutions being the same.
So saying "all second tier evolutions have more nitcable physical change", is bullshit.
Lyras did. Moms Half-Lord changes weren't much more than Lyras first tier evolution was.
>>
>>37490337
That was a blessing.
And it was still less noticable than her second evolution, which gave her a giant skull on her but, fur on her forearms, magma veins on her legs, even more size and even more hair.

Besides, has Elle turned red?
No, she has not.
So why the fuck would her generic first evolution be more noticable than Aria's second evolution, which actually does something aside from giving her more of what she already has?
>>
>>37490465
>And it was still less noticable than her second evolution
Because it happened to be a evolution that had more physical changes?
Her Ruby Widow Arachne evolution had about as many as Moms second tier Half-Lord evolution.

>Literally nobody speaks out about another person joining

>>
>>37490543
You seemed to not have paid much attention. Several people have said that the addition of the tiny snake is straining the party size even more.
But there is a difference between discussing with other players if we should get more party members, and telling REQM he shouldn't give us so many party members.
>>
>>37490543
But I already spoke out about it when we were discussing the snake in the first place.
>>
>>37490543

>>
>>37490465
Elles evolution was more noticable because Aria hasn't evolved yet. Pay attention.
>>
>>37490543
People said the tiny snake will be a problem in taking away even more space from our older party members in the thread she got introduced.
Did you notice how no one tried to take her along before she showed up in the boat? Because we think its getting too many.
People said it would be too many everytime the idea of new party members came up, be that tiny snakes or anything else.

>>
>>37490515
>Her Ruby Widow Arachne evolution had about as many as Moms second tier Half-Lord evolution.
This is not actually the case.
This is completely ignoring that Lyra's second evolution caused even more cahnges than her first one.
And most importantly, this is comepletely ignoring that Elle has NO FUCKING BLESSINGS.

Elle has grown larger.
That's it.
The thought that this would have been more noticable than Aria's second Tier evolution is just retarded.

Because the first Evolution is generic, giving you only a size increase and some coloration changes if you get a blessing, and the second Tier evolution starts specialization, giving you more signifcant physical changes like horns, gems, buttskulls, wolf-spider spider parts or orb-spider spider parts and shit like pulsating magma veins, if you're lucky enough to get a blessing.

>>37490660
That's what I've been saying from the very beginning.
This other retard is just insisting that Aria's second evolution could have been overlooked.
>>
>>37490543
people speak out against getting new permanent pary members =/= people telling REQM what to do with his story.
You gotta have to take it up with the big spider if it bothers you so much.
>>
>>37490706
What? How is a spider the size of a mountain small in any way?

We get to see more of the Forest as we cut through, visit out Tiny Spider cousins in the Mountains, then carry on towards Elfe Elfa Island. Anyone got other routes they want to take?
>>
>>37491153
I really actually want to visit the nearest human city, then move from there.

because A. I want to see a human city and B. I want to see that fat trader and his family again. I liked those guys.
>>
>>37491153
Its either West or South.
I would favor West, because I want to give Aria time to go out as spider adventurer from the human city.
It'd be a lot more fun to make the large continental tour, and then come into the city and find our sisters there.

Its also more convenient as traveling route and takes less backtracking.
>>
>>37491228
There is a human city south of the mountains we could visit. The city down river would be the fastest to reach, but I'd favour the other one just because it's on a good route that lets us see a load of other stuff too.
>>
You take the lead, and are soon covered in monsters uninterested in walking.
Lazy, lazy, lazy- Oh.

"Elle?"
"Mhm?"
"You did not hide before, yes. Is Mom getting worse?"
"Ah."

She shares a look with Aria.
"It is good that you are home, yes?"
"It is very, very good that you are home."
"Yes?"

Elle sighs, flicking her wrist to one side.
"She has not said anything, but. Well. You know how she was when she was worried, yes?"
"She would drag me upstairs, mostly."
"Mmm. But you are not home. So she dragged Ari upstairs. And then Ari was too worn out to go upstairs anymore."

"I have had a very, very rough week, yes. She is buzzing around the nest- all the time."
"Ah."
"Mmm. The boys just do what they always do, but I couldn't stay home when she's like this."

"Well, we are home, now."
"Thank gods."

You pull into your home clearing with a rather impressive train of people.
The tree, though, is the same as always. Gigantic, quiet. Mirrored by a trio of stone pillars.

The bath is something you're looking forwards to, in any case.

Nin abandons your shell to climb the ladder behind Sheszka while Jin tucks herself further into her eye-socket- Spreading her wings and legs to brace herself.
You laugh, and start up the trunk.

Your collar feels tight as you walk, and you reach to pry it off before you remember.
Your shirt doesn't have a collar, and there's a snake wrapped around your neck. She's pulled herself tight around your throat, hugging her coils and keeping her face pressed to her scales.
Your hand finishes its arc, pressing reassuringly into her back as you take the last few steps, pulling yourself over the edge and into your nest proper.

Your mother is half way down the tree when you walk in, wiping away the efforts from the arena above.
Then she spots you.
>>

>>37491430
Wordlessly, she launches herself off the tree, crashing into the nest with enough force to set the webbing trembling, hurtling across your home to sweep you into her arms and crush the life from your bones.

Hug you. You meant hug you.
Just a little more forceful, that's all.

You can barely breathe as she squeezes you against herself, muttering, whispering into your hair.
"Lyra, you- bloody godsdamn-"

You manage to get your arms up around her, hugging back.
Or tapping out. You're not sure.

"Mom!"
"You are not allowed to allow your friends to get sick or hurt or anything else anymore."
"I am fairly certain that is not under my control, yes."
"Then you need to work harder, bratling."

She sniffles, wiping away tears before they can fall as she lets you go, stepping back.

I had thought making a full tour.
West to Elfa island, find our relatives, then to the coast and cross over to the city on the continent, travel further south, then take the boat north-east to the dwarven mountains, and from there north back home over the last city.

We could also do it the other way around, if we want to visit the dwarves earlier.
Go straight south to the city at the giant lake, then to the dwarves and make the long inland trip to elfa island.

Resuscitate Ezzy. If Lyra is feeling that hug is strong, with Ezzy around her neck, the poor snake is probably almost dead.

Have we ever been able to hang upside down on things?

There's no ceilings readily available in the forest, so I don't think we ever really did it much.

I want to go loom over things.
>>
>>37491866
>Have we ever been able to hang upside down on things?

Yes, in the dungeon. Haven't had much chance to do it outside.
>>
>>37492027
We need to hang upside down on more things before we get too big.
It's one of the advantages of being a spider and damn if I'm not using it to at LEAST startle a centaur in his barn.
>>
>>37492027
I think we might have been doing some hanging upside down when we were futilely hoping to ambush Lann, though.
>>
>>37492260
I'm now imagining upside down Lyra pouting huffily when Lann doesn't fall for her trap.
>>

Lyra hanging upside down has all sorts of hilarious ways it could go.
We need to get out of the forest and into some kind of city so we can exploit it.

Though getting the bartender to look up might take a bit.

You step up, threading your arms under your mother's, pulling her close and leaning into her as your return her hug. She wraps her arms around you again, falling quiet as she lays her head next to yours.

You stay like that for a little while.

And then she sniffs, turning her head and raising it.
"What is this?"
"Mm. Probably Esmerelda, yes?"
"Esmawha? What?"

There's a hiss of indignation from somewhere beneath your chin, and you don't bother trying to hold back your giggling. You tip your head back, using both hands to brush the mess your hair has become back from your shoulders, revealing the tiny snake in all her glory.

"This is Esmerelda, yes? We met a day or so before the falls."
"Did you kidnap a lamia, Lyra?"
"Technically she was a stowaway, yes? But I made sure it was okay before I kept her."
Another hiss.

"I am Nialla, little one. Nice to meet you."
"Sss- Ah. I am Esmerelda. Thank you."

Your mom nods.
"Well, she won't eat much. But she is your responsibility, yes."
Ezzy makes a vague choking noise.
"Yes, Mom."

"And Sheszka?"
You gesture behind you, where the rest of the group has gathered. Mom examines each in turn, crushing life and breath from each member of your family.
And Jin and Nin, who both raise their arms when they feel left out.

Lann refuses the hug, though. Complaining about 'Fragile Elf Bones'. Must've got that from her human side.
She punches you.

You're still saying things out loud. It is really time to go to sleep and just not wake up for a while.
>>
>>37492708
Sara manages to wiggle free of Mom's grasp, though she might look a little worse for the wear.
Mom turns.
"I am glad you are all well, yes."
"Mhm. I heard the last of my siblings have grown, too."

Mom snorts, flicking your forehead.
"Ah!"
"You are older by seconds, whelpling. Don't go pretending, yes."
"I am the eldest child, yes! It's my job."

Mom shakes her head in mock sadness.
"That my eggs would hatch into such troublesome creatures. What have I done to deserve such a fate?"
It's Sara's voice that answers.

"Probably adventuring, yes? Curses and the like. Nothing else would explain Lyra."

Mom laughs, and you lunge for the brat, promising vengeance as she giggles, skittering out of the way and trying to hide behind her books. You will have your revenge!

It's pretty well established that this is hungry spiderbutt quest, not giant spider adventurer quest.
>>
>>37493877
that's why I said we'll never ride any giant creatures.

We literally are incapable of not hunting and eating them.
>>
You plant your spiderbutt down, near the beaten circle where your family eats.
This is nice.
This is right.

You nod. It feels right.

You lean back into your skull, sighing a little. It's been too long since you could actually relax. You offer a hand to your neck-occupant.
She curls her upper body free, watching the hand lazily.
"I will... stay here. If that is okay?"
"You don't like heights-"

She hisses.
"Yes, yes. You don't like heights, but you picked the near highest point on a spider?"
"You are not very tall-"
"I am quite tall, yes."
"You are not very tall compared to trees, then. And you are, ah. You are very warm."

"Is that a good thing?"
"It makes us easier. It easier. For us. For snakes!"
"Yes?"
"We need the heat."

You rock your head back and forth.
"I see. Do you want me to be warmer, then?"
"You can do that?"
"Yes."
"Ah- No, thank you. This is good. This much is fine."
"Suit yourself."
"I will."

You laugh as your brothers pull themselves over the lip of the nest, hoisting piles of meat on their backs. You lick your lips involuntarily.

They wave to everyone as they pull in- They're certainly a bit bigger now, but they've already hacked their hair back down to a more manageable level.

Food is piled easily in the centre of the circle. Your father seats himself, closing a book with a silk bookmark, and nods to you from across the circle.
>>
>>37493988
He might have tried to say something but you have like 5 people to cook for or something and then your are going to jam an entire buck into your mouth.
No, you don't care.
You will MAKE it fit.

You cook as fast as you possibly can. Light seasoning, a burning plate.
You have to slow down a minute to cut up Ezzy's meal, at which point she slithers down your arm, twisting around it till she reaches the floor- and her food.

The sounds of satisfied monsters surround you, and you set in on your meal.
Specifically, you tear the leg off a deer and just go to town. And another, and another. Until there is a very pleasing fullness permeating your body, the kind of sluggishness you get after thanksgiving.

You dab at your face with a napkin, for all the good it could possibly do.
You aren't particularly salvageable at the moment. But you are full, and happy. And home.

Just because I don't know how spiders would physically crawl that's different from walking. I kinda expect Lyra to realize this.
Also if we don't bathe the whole nest will smell.

You look across the nest.
The bath is right there. Right there, Lyra.
It isn't far.

At some point, Ezzy managed to get back around your neck apparently.
No, wait. That isn't important.

Moving!
That was it.
You were trying to move.

You can't be bothered to pick yourself up, though.
Maybe...

Legs splayed, you drag yourself across the nest. Slowly.
With people staring.
Never seen a tired spider?

Yeah, you know you were staring.

Reaching the edge of the water is a relief beyond relief.
You sigh, pushing yourself the last few feet, dropping your body into the sweet relief of running water.
You're already starting to heat it, your legs nearly boiling the water in your rush for comfort.

In minutes, you've assembled a spider-powered hot tub.
Seconds later, it's filled by traitorous opportunists, seeking heat and cleanliness, but unwilling to suffer or work for it.
You will have your revenge.
Tomorrow, maybe. Or a week from now.

You give Ezzy a short warning before you dunk your head beneath the surface, combing out your hair and flipping it over your shoulder as you rise for air.
This is perfect. Heaven.

You dry your hair as best you can.
It takes nearly five false starts to get you out of the tub.

Collapsing into a pile of blankets is something you have most certainly missed.
Of course, the immediate reaction is that people rearrange your limbs and body to better suit their own sleeping patterns.
Oh no, of course you don't mind.

Your eyes are already closed as your friends fall in.
Sheszka, happy and creeping beneath a leg.
Jin curling into her socket.
Lann lying down next to you, her bedroll abandoned for silk blankets.
Nin prying your arms free and arranging herself against you.

The scent of home, of your family all around.

It's good to be back.

Definitely a key plot point. A member of one of our friends families gets kidnapped and we go and rescue them, after beating the groups 'boss' we lecture him on needing permission from the person or their family (if still a child) before they can be Kidnapped...
