Since some anons do not read:

I'm not the same guy but since that guy is having computer problems and I have read all of his stuff, I decided to make my own version, this is not my first rodeo. But obviously it will not be the same exact experience. Nor should it be. If the original creator wants it this could happen in the same universe as his.
-----------------------------------------------------------

It was a rough start, this planet did not offer the usual amenities that a queen is used to, and your injuries did prevent you from having a large first clutch, the environment robbed you of even more of your brood. But at least you were able to recover your thinker, the pod and have some shelter constructed inside the cave. For now it will suffice, although winter may be even colder here, it does not seem like things will be easy.

For the moment you have 3 first clutch workers, they are weak, small, and not likely to last too long out there. But they are your hands to command, they have no fear of death and will happily do as you ask. It will be many more hours until your other workers hatch. And if no food by tomorrow, you fear starvation will hit the hive. You are unsure as to what to do now, perhaps foraging, or exploring deeper into the cave.

You decide to send two of your brood out to forage for some much needed sustenance, they do not complain about the cold. But you can feel that they will not support this environment for much longer, all the work they have done so far has left them with little energy. Having to climb out of the ravine proves time consuming more than anything else, perhaps at later time you should confront that issue. For the moment your workers make it all the way to the top, where the forest encompass all. Should your workers be quick in their forage or should they take their time to find proper nourishment?

>[] Be quick (low income, low danger)
>[] Be slow (high income, high danger)

Your other worker is sent deeper into the cave, and your thinker says that perhaps he should look for an area that would be suitable as a throne room, or for some ore veins, although he is unsure what will be found in a cave such as this one. There is some possibility of danger, the cave could have living creatures deeper in, although its a stretch.

Foraging can be an arduous process, many different plants and sometimes animal can be found, but it usually takes patience and time to find a good amount of food. With an alien world comes alien proteins, not that you are too worried, your kind are not exactly picky about food. However, this excursion has proven to be ineffective, meager finds of some berry bushes, with shriveled produce. All in all after a few hours you give up and have your workers return, there is almost nothing to be foraged in the immediate area, at least no other dangerous animals are around, you hope.

16N gained.

Turning your attention to your other worker it seems he has found a large cavern fit for a throne room, but better yet, small creatures hang of the ceiling, this could be sustenance, there are many caverns that seem to connect nearby, it seems this cave you've picked used to be part of an underground river, some waterways can still be heard by your drone. For the moment, you can only think of how you would capture the small creatures, It seems hunger has gotten to you. Your drone is instructed to capture one but they prove to be slippery things, able to fly on four leathery wings, while making a KEEK, KEEK sound. Perhaps echolocation?

Your other workers return to the cave, and bring the food found. “We have food, mother!” If your other brood were to hatch, but they are at least 2 hours away from being ready, you could force a few to hatch, but it could kill at least half of however many you choose to force. Its a hard decision.

You have your small workers go out and capture a specimen for study, it turns out that working in tandem your workers have no issue with these little creatures, they are easily spooked but also easily captured when there is some team effort going on. You decide to capture more than what you need for research, it is after all far easier than you anticipated, all in all you collect twenty of the furry beasts and gather one more for research. They offer little in the way of meat but that’s fine they more than make it up in numbers.

First you lay down some special eggs, they do not have any actual brood inside but rather are a self sustaining mass that when hatched, (which will happen in a matter of minutes) will expand and start stretching over the walls, floor and ceiling of the cave, providing winding tendrils that will regulate temperature, humidity, and later on have the ability to transfer energy. These organic walls provide a way to expand your conscious extra-corporeal senses, in a way for every inch they move, its an inch of space you can now perceive, via temperature and pressure. You have your fist brood and two of your of your adult workers attend to these eggs and start to position them at key sites for maximum spread.

Upon sending your larger workers in to harvest more of the tiny creatures they spook and fly about, but this does not prove problematic, with ease they are captured and quickly brought to you. However you do notice that this harvesting can be an issue if your over reach, there are perhaps a good two hundred or so critters left, an alternate source of nutrients should be found.

Exploration of the cave yields little more than some antechambers with plenty of stalagmites, nothing out of the ordinary. But easily converted into hatcheries where your eggs can mature with relative safety and expediency. It is a matter of having the workers clear the place and have some infrastructure eggs hatch to provide a proper ground, this construction will take the better part of a day and at least keep 5 adult workers fully occupied.

Send the first batch, as they are disposable, but yield little return if recycled. If they die of exposurre we can just recover the bodies for consumption.
Also, are there any forms of fungus or lichen in the caves, perhaps near or in the rivers? We should have a drone observe the flying creatures to determine their source of food, and see if we could use the same source or not.

The construction of your hatchery has taken great priority, but then again a hatchery is an important and central component of any proper hive. Yours will not be the exception, the workers are quick to get started, but there are many rocks to be moved and many stalagmites to be broken down, you must also have the ceiling be secured with chitinous pylons to ensure proper pressure is exerted to avoid a cave in, this is a slow procedure that cannot be hastened without incurring severe loses by collapsing sections of the cave.

The outside is harsh, and your first brood is easily releasable if they perish, still your heart wavers as you love all your brood, these ones in particular as they have been your little warriors, facing insurmountable odds. Following the ravine they come near a river running with a deep emerald colored water, these brood cannot perform a chemical analysis they lack the organs for that. Still spectrographical analysis encounters that there is a large portion of algae in the water. Perhaps this will be of use as sustenance?

Next you have two of your workers placed as sentries at the cave entrance, they will serve as first warning should any other large predators come again. Which they should be quite capable of taking down, after all your first brood were able to do that even in their weakened state, perhaps most animals are suffering from malnutrition due to the harsh cold conditions, and you are not sure if the planet, is on winter times.

And lastly you lay what will be the future of your metal infrastructure, miners, these do not require modification as the dirt is always a constant temperature past a certain depth.

You decide to take a few samples of the algae, its a viscous thing, and you fear that it will freeze on the low temperatures before you can get it back to the cave for analysis. Perhaps you could have a drone eat it to determine if it will yield any good amount of nutrients or if it is poisonous. You could still attempt to bring it back, but you are likely to just have a frozen mess if anything left by the time you reach the cave's entrance.

>[] attempt to eat it.
>[] attempt to bring it back.
>[] leave it for later (write in what to do)

Your free workers are sent deeper still, this cave system seem ample but just as they are exploring a narrow tunnel it collapses, throwing them into a freezing underground river, the combination of disorientation, the sock of the temperature differential and a rather large chunk of rock have instantly killed one of your workers, the other struggles against the current and grabs hold of the cave wall with one of his powerful manipulators. Digging into the stone your worker reaches out and back towards the dry portion of your cave. You have found a source of water, not that it was much required, this one you notice, is free of the green algae.

You decide against some better judgment to attempt and bring back the algae, the trip is non-eventful, you memorized the path with relative ease, your sentries welcome back their brethren. The samples they have brought with them are all frozen on the outside, but in your wisdom you decided to wrap them up into balls, which should conserve the samples deeper in intact, still you place them at an alcove you had an idle worker dig out, here in your temperature controlled environment it they should thaw out in a matter of a few hours. Not that there is a hurry, you single thinker is hard at work on the dissection of your Vesper Specimen. The idle worker return to help it.
(just realized he needed a helper.)

Deep in the cavern a worker closes off a path that leads to an underground river, with a clawed hand he wipes some of the moisture that build up on his brow. He now awaits new orders from you. “I have done thing for mother!”

It would perhaps be wise to move deeper into the cave now that you know there are no other dangers lurking about. There are some possibilities as to where to go, perhaps in the large cavern with the Vespers, or an adjacent one that has none of the little furry things. You could even stay where you are, after all you would have to disturb your workers or use your first clutch to set up a throne room.

Seal off the chamber with the samples and make sure that only the worker that brought in the samples comes into contact with it. If it's dangerous we can limit any infection to just the one.

It's a point of pride.

sorry no free worker option forgot to delete it, my bad.

Voting ends in 5 minutes, everyone ok with current selection?

no egg demand to lay?
>>
>>37500916
Lay a few more workers, say 5
>>
>>37500921

normal workers (best used inside hive only, not suited for the cold outside) 4N to lay 2N to upkeep.
Winter workers (both conditions inside and outside ) 8N to lay 4N upkeep
>>
>>37500916
Sure. I usually like to only use it for questing, but just once to avoid confusion.

I'll slink back to anonymity, but if you ever need anything send me a message over twitter any time.

Ok current selection is to:

>[]Build throne room with first brood.
>[]lay 5 winter workers 40N (I should have them drawn white)

Where do we build throne room: (choose one)

>[] Main cavern with Vespers (large)
>[] side cavern (medium)

>[] Main cavern with Vespers (large)

Just spitballing here, but eventually we should get an air force going, maybe adapt the vasper wings to get some winter-proofed wings. We could have them hang from the ceiling when not in use to protect the throne room.

I like the idea, lets get out single thinker on it tomorrow...

Writing.

Your throne room should be large, it should be opulent but functional, and you have some ideas that could transform the interior of the large cavern to your needs. You have the frist clutch, which you have now named trinity make up the workforce that will construct your throne room. It will take them a while, but it will be done. “We build for mother!” Such happy little morsels, you could just eat them. The hive is growing and will require more workers, you lay five winter worker eggs, that should suffice for now. After all you must be careful with your Nutrients, they are not easy to come by.

222N left
40N for winter eggs.
40N for infrastructure eggs.

142N left.
