"Designed."

You roll the word around in your head. The feel of it is sour, metallic, cold. "You were designed." Such a loaded phrase, there. Ever since your conversation with Ness you've had to actively ignore or bury that phrase. "You were designed." By who? Designed by who, and for what?

Your fist meets the cold fiberstone flooring of the compound. Riddles, riddles, mysteries, and lies. You could try contacting your mother right now, but she's probably busy... And you're not even sure if you want to talk to her. Part of you wonders if she's alright. She should be. She's skilled enough in handling Pokemon, even if she doesn't enjoy doing so. Nash City should be secure, right? Couldn't have gone down that quickly...

There is only a a handful of people you really care about. They're scattered like leaves in a wind, and you have little to no clue regarding how they're doing. No way to contact Dani, dammit. You're lost and practically alone in a dark, frightening new world. A world where the "bad guys" are trying to masquerade as the heroes. A world where your life, apparently, has been molded since day one to fit some sort of plan.

Designed? Fuck your design. Fuck this.

A hand gingerly touches your arm. You look up and brush a small fleck of tears from your eye. Ness is kneeling over you, hair draped down like a curtain about your faces.

"Come, Grey. We must stay active. You must not... How might I express this? Ah, 'wallow in your grief.' It can only catch up to you if you let it."

"Mm. Yeah, sure." You nod and try to force a smile. "Stay active. Don't focus on the bad. Got it."

"Yes. There is much to do and, I... I do not like seeing you suffer like this."

"Thanks." You pat her hand and get up. She still has that "unsaid concern" look to her eyes. You can see words begging to be said on her face. No time for that, now.

"What's on the agenda?"

"The Rangers were just about to discuss that in the other room, Grey."

>cont.
>>
>>37504219

You and Ness decide on talking with the Rangers about the situation in general and how you might be able to help around the compound. If there's any way of getting it up and running, it could very well benefit you too. Better medical care, the possibility of buying items... And maybe the Rangers will help you some way in return. It's worth a shot.

In the discussion, you make a note of some major issues at hand:

>Ranger Station Electricity: Needs attention. The Main power line has been damaged. It's module, so fixiing it isn't too hard. Maybe just dangerous with the wild mons out there. There IS an outpost, though, that could have some supplies.

>Medical supplies: Speaking of the outpost, there's the fact that medical supplies are low. Grabbing some would be helpful to everyone.

>Transportation: If you got the electricity back on... You might be able to digitize up some transport. The Rangers have a couple wagons and a couple bikes but they need repairs. You're no mechanic. Ness seemed like she might have an idea, though...

You have to decide on whether to stay, help, or just leave. Atlan was the closest major city, and you're not currently aware if the bullet trains are running. You desperately want to get back to Jay city and get in contact with your friends...

>Let's discuss what we're going to do to fuck up TITAN and get our friends back.

Hey everyone and welcome back to P:SS, Fuck TITAN edition! Because TITAN is a bunch of assholes!

Voting periods will be 10 minutes usually, with votes during high-stakes, "react fast!" events taking 5 minutes. I will wait 10 minutes here, initially, so that people can show up.

Write-ins are always welcome and, actually, I try to reward them when possible. Creativity, flexibility, thoughtfulness... All important things to consider when you're in the middle of guiding Grey through this quest.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point in the quest, please feel free to voice them. That said, let's try not to shitstorm in thread. That hasn't been a problem with this quest and that's because you guys, the playerbase, are the shit. Keep up the good work.

Useful shit:

also why not calling them Team Titan? didn't want to get confused with the teen titans? ALSO why would they fuck with the arc signal when they haven't gotten the dome cities up and running yet?

Sounds like we need them too...I say we stay and help at least until we get a better idea of what to do...
Plus we're going to have to start dealing with the problem like everyone else eventually...

Huh, thought for sure the thread would be goin' by the time I got here...so much for being fashionably late...

We should ask for more details about the power lines...

I mean Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno make people shit their pants when they enter a region and are considered uncatchable. Now imagine them going and purposefully attack people. Cities gone in an eyeblink.

honestly i'm just hoping Team Titan isn't THAT stupid.....

You bring Ness aside and talk about fixing the main power line. Assuming the power plants are working, it'll get you some resources and help everyone here. She sticks on "moving on as soon as possible" but you reinforce the idea to her that helping people is an important goal.

"Perhaps even more important than fixing the ARC or keeping me safe. Stopping TITAN. It's the right thing, Ness... And doing the right thing is very important to me."

"I understand. We shall endeavor to help the Rangers and reinforce this location. It shall serve as a useful hub within which we can determined future action."

"In so many words? Sure. Yeah. Plan our next action..." You sigh and look out that cloudy bits of window not boarded up. "I just hope my friends are alright, too. Dani, Mittens, Erica, Erwin... Even Nick."

Something hits your consciousness like a needle, poking at it. Something on the tip of your tongue, something you feel would be useful...

"The book."

Ness looks at you, puzzled.

"A book? Which one? What are you referencing, Grey?" And then she closes her eyes, touching on your consciousness for a moment... "Ah. Yes. Erwin the Mapmaker's book. How is that useful, currently?"

"Because it has his phone number in the back. He wrote it down for me." You can't help but grin, hand going to your face as mirth fills your soul. "If we can contact him, I... I can talk to him, and he probably has Dani's number!"

Ness looks at you with her usual mask but... You can see apprehension. Perhaps feel the concern in her expression. Dammit, you wish you could read her mind right now.

"I worry about you doing that, Grey." She turns away quickly and sets back to work lining a pack with supplies. "What if you are tracked or monitored? What if Dani is? What if she's not okay?"

"Why wouldn't I contact Dani...? If she's not alright... Even more important to know now."

"I just, I. Ah, how do I say this... Part of it is logical concern. The other part is concern that you will neglect our budding friendship. I 'almost have you where I want you,' so to speak."

You snort.

>"I have to find out. I'll... I'll figure that out if it comes up."

"I have to find out about my friends." You pull the book out of your back and flip through... Sure enough, there's Erwin's number. "You understand about what may drive someone? Having a goal or dream? Right, Ness?"

"Yes. Emotional anchors. Things that humans tie to their self-worth and pursue or defend."

"Right, well, my friends are my anchors. Without them I'm adrift." You put the book away for now. "And I need a phone or device to call with... Let's get that electricity running and those supplies on the way, alright?"

You move with more gusto now, hope lightening your step. You notice, however, that Ness does not. You make a point of talking to her, but she's avoiding the issue whatever it is. This only frustrates you but you keep in mind all she's done for you and take it easy on her.

"I know you're hiding something that's bothering you, Ness. If it's about contacting my friends... I need to, alright? Erwin can help us at the least. He has a Skarmory and other 'Mons that can move us. Maybe he can help us fix the signal problem." She nods quietly. "What is it?"

"You are adrift. I am not an anchor for you, here? Right now? That is what I gathered, and that revelation was saddening to me. I shall endeavor to serve you better."

You stop. She's hurting, too. You have to keep that in mind. "Ness? Hey, you are an anchor for me. It's just that I'm worried about my other friends. You don't need to be jealous."

"You are correct in your assessment. I do not need to be jealous." She throws a pair of socks the Rangers gifted you into her donated bag. "But I still am."

"Ness, People can have more than one friend, and Erwin's not that cute anyways." You laugh and Ness fumes. The next pair of socks are aimed at you.

"It is not Erwin I am concerned about! It is Dani!" This burst of emotion surprises you. It's so unlike her. "I... apologize. How non-rational of me. I do not understand why I react this way whenever that woman is mentioned. Excuse me."

She heads outside. You consider stopping her, but... Maybe she needs time alone.

"Focus on the task at hand..." You tell yourself. You set to moving, finding and then pulling a Ranger named Ridge aside. He agrees to go with you and fix the power line, though he's quite worried that you only have Sprig. You mention that you have a couple 'Mons boxed and ask about getting to them. He sighs and sets to thinking.

"Hey, Charles?" He calls to one of the other Rangers and they set to discussing, Charles rather furious at times.

Ridge, who you will be assisting, clues you in that you could pull 1 or 2 out but it would use most of the reserve electricity, which they were trying to save up. It's going to have to be a decision to make: safety or save the electricity for an emergency?

>Pull out one or two of your 'Mons (or try to)?
Ness is worried this will alert TITAN to your whereabouts. This will also tie up currently available electricity. Roll 1d100 if you choose this.

"Look, Ridge? I promise I'll do everything I can to help out if you can get me out my 'Mons. There's three, okay? If we can get all of them out I'll put them to work."

"Alright... we could use the extra hands. Follow me."

He leads you to a digitizing machine in the back of the compound, dusty and ancient-looking.

"You sure this thing will work?"

"Yeah. Booted it up... Drains a shit-ton of energy, though." You give it a long, hard look. Your curiosity is piqued, to say the least.

"How old, exactly, is it?"

"Haven't the faintest clue. Pretty shitty when it comes to a lot of features, too..."

"Alright. Let's get to work." You set to the machine, typing in a slew of information, searching on the intranet system of the League... Finally, you find your information and your 'Mons. You select Volts first. You've got a hunch he'll be useful. You hit "digitize" and wait as the machine hums to life.

It hums.

And hums.

It whirs, shakes, stirs and bangs; you worry for a moment that it might explode. You prepare to shield yourself before... A very old ball appears and the electricity in the building dims. The machine goes black. It's dead.

"Fuck!" Ridge starts banging on it. You move to stop him, though. He curses before kicking it again. "Tough luck, kid. Hope that one 'mon will work..."

"Oh, I think it will. Just watch. I have an idea."

You release Voltergeist and immediately the surrounding air becomes charged with electricity. The machinery about you sets to faint pings or lighting up dimly. You smile.

"Voltergesit?" He's searching the room quietly, a wicked smile on his face. You set to snapping in order to get his attention. "Voltergeist!"

He turns to look at you, snapping back with surprise when he sees your face. You give a stiff wave and a nod. He starts smiling and clapping his incorporeal little hands. Then his face disappears, a "screen" flashing into existence in its place. Text begins scrolling along it. You read it aloud:

"Welcome and congratulations for acquiring your very own ROTOM!"

Ridge whistles, interrupting you. "You got a fuckin' Rotom, kid? Ho'shit. Haven't seen one in... I don't know, years?"

You nod and wave for him to be quiet. You continue reading.

"The owner's manual may be conveniently found UP YOUR ASS," you scoff. Cheeky bastard. "Along with YOUR HEAD. JUST KIDDING." There's a wicked smiley face (>:]) following that section of text. "Looking forward to working with you. Stuck in SHIT BOAT OF HELL for years. You seem like STUPID," but then the last word is crossed out. "FUN. LOTS OF FUN. What's first on your wishlist, boss?"

You laugh and the Rotom buzzes back.

"Well, tell you what... Jump in that machine right there. See if you can get it up and running." His eyebrows slant derisively, and he dons a sarcastic grin. With a wink he then disappears and... the machine starts running again. "Ridge...?"

"Yeah? What is it, kid?"

"Get me all the old 'tech you can find."

The nurses are both scared and ecstatic that Voltergeist is able to get some of the ancient, manual equipment up and running. Combined with the digitizer and you have a pretty good start on getting the things you need... Still, getting the main line fixed and supplies from the outpost should still be addressed. You bid Volts goodbye with a salute (he reciprocates) and ask him to please be helpful. You promise lots of fun if he cooperates. The mischievous grin you receive in response has you worried, but it's worth it.

You have Apollo, Bonnie, and Sprig. The little she-sprite is resting on your shoulders, cheering and pointing in the directions you want to go. She must fancy herself the little captain of the SS Grey... It's nice having such a childlike enthusiasm around with the dark atmosphere of late, but you have to buckle down and set that aside for later. No time for games.

You head down the line, working your way East.

You pull her into a short, one-armed hug before pointing out the Tynamos. She nods.

"Ridge? You have any concerns or 'Mons you want to send out?"

He grits his teeth a bit. "Lost quite a few, friend. I've got a Magnezone, a Miltank, and a Feraligator on me. All are pretty messed up, but the Magnezone's sturdy. Real sturdy. You got these Tynamo?"

You nod.

There's a Look and then a nod between you and Ness. You draw the gun out and hand it over; for a moment, Ness lingers with her fingers brushing the heel of your hand. Then she smiles a bit before taking it and moving towards the fault in the line. Ridge quietly nods at you and follows after her.

"Alright Bonnie; it's up to you. You ready?" The Slash nods. "Hit'em with a rollout. Surprise them and hit them HARD! No mercy, okay?"

Another nod. Bonnie tenses her body before jumping into the air and curling up, her scales glistening in the sun. When she hits the ground dirt sets to spinning and flying around her, caught in the rotating electromagnetic field she's generating. She sets off, gaining speed as she approaches...

>96 v 79
>Type advantage
>Slaugh-ter

The Tynamo don't see her coming or as a threat until it's too late. She slams into one that's low to the ground, carrying it with her for a moment before it slips under her spinning scales, coming up half-buried in her tracks. It flips and twitches lamely: that leaves only 3 to deal with.

Bonnie comes back around, throwing dirt and plantlife up in arcs as she takes a corner; the Tynamo hiss, bark, and snap at her. Sparks and thunder waves fly off, but the electricity merely rolls off your teammate. The magnetic particular surrounding her and lining her scales serves as an effective Faraday cage. Plus, her body's built to take that kind of shit.

She comes in again, catching two of the floating Monsters and sending them spinning out. You... You just watch. You move over towards Ridge and Ness, throwing glances at Bonnie on occasion. It's pretty one-sided. You just hope that the cries of the Tynamo don't draw attention. They shouldn't, right? The area's been quiet...

You turn your attention back to helping your companions.

Ridge says it's going alright; the parts he digitized out are fitting okay, but it's going to take time to fix and replace the wiring. There's burn damage, gotta put everything in the right place... He's no expert, unfortunately, so he has to learn as he goes. Ness is providing assistance, though.

You feel pretty satisfied. Everything's moving swimmingly...

"What was that?"

You look over towards Bonnie. There was a distinct sound. Growling? A sizzle? You narrow your eyes. Something's in the tree line...

A blast lances out, catching the dirt near Bonnie and blasting up chunks. She's forced out of her roll. You look to the origin, seeing a tall, slender figure creep out of the trees. Vicious rows of teeth, crackling sparks along its slimy skin...

An Eelektross.

The thing is about half more as tall as you, and bristling with energy. Quite the intimidating sight, especially when it's enraged and willing to kill humans on sight.

"HEADS UP!" Ridge turns to you and then follows your gesture. "EELEKTROSS!"

"Fuck!" He curses, rapping the end of his torch against the coating of the power line. "Hold it off or something: I'll be done soon enough. Think you can do that?"

"I think I can give it my best shot. Ness, watch his back!"

You leap over the line and head towards Bonnie. Ness moves as if to follow but falters, instead steeling herself and focusing on protecting Ridge.

"BONNIE!" You yell through cupped hands. The Slash perks her ears but keeps her eyes pinned on the monstrosity stomping towards her. "ENTRENCH!"

She shakes a bit before diving towards the earth, arms working as furious pistons, moving dirt into a loose semi-circular wall about her. A defensive position made, she shoves her hands into the dirt and then settles herself low.

>2. Crit failure.
>37

"Sand spikes...! Keep it pinned!" Bonnie twists and roils the ground with her hands, trying to get it to grab at and pierce the giant Eel... It roars, flinching as a spike of earth rises into its back heel. Its maw opens and you watch as it collects a static charge. There is a flash and then a sonic boom as it lets the bolt loose, striking through Bonnie's wall and smacking the dirt next to her form. Like lightning it throws ground and shrew flying; Bonnie has the sense to tuck herself into a ball but hits the ground hard. She lays on her back for a moment, head still reeling from the explosive blast.

"Entrench...!" You're yelling at her again, watching as the Eel sprints over to her vulnerable form. "Get off your back! Get off your fucking back! MOVE, BONNIE!"
>>
Rolled 68 (1d100)

>>37506768

The Eel rises up over her form, and Bonnie takes to a panic: lashing out while simultaneously trying to get into a defensive position. The Eel takes advantage of her confusion and sinks its teeth into her shoulder. You hear her cry out and your heart sinks. The two of them wrestle, the Eel biting down and dragging Bonnie about in the dirt with its jaws.

Shit.

"Sand cloak...! ENTRENCH!" Your voice is going hoarse. You could send in Apollo or Sprig... Fuck! "SAND SPIKES!"

She can't hear you, or she can't pay attention. She's scratching and biting at the fucker, trying desperately to fight if off. You reach for Sprig's ball, when... The sand around Bonnie starts roiling, shifting and moving as if it hand a life of its own. Like ripples in reverse, circular waves move towards the pair, covering Bonnie and moving onto the Eel as well. It moves away, bellowing. It flails its limbs in an attempt to flick off the sediment clinging to its body. then it tries shocking it off, but that only makes more stick to it. Red, dirt, flowing like water, climbs up the form of the wild Monster. It's up to its neck in a clay-covering, now: like a second skin bristling and molding itself to the Eel. It falls back in a panic, screaming as the dirt now closes around its mouth, its eyes...

Bonnie is just lying there, focusing her desperation into controlling the earth. With the Eel finally covered and silenced she rolls over, exhaustion preventing her from moving further.

You look on: a freshly-made, living statue and your Sandslash lay in the middle of a barren, shallow pit of clay. It's as if someone poured a huge pot full of the dirt over them.

You draw Bonnie's ball and recall her swiftly, then pointing the release beam towards the ground before letting her back out. You talk to her gently as you look over her, drawing one of the potions you received from the Rangers and relieving some of her pain. You give her some food and move to return her once more.

A loud crack rings out.

You look up. There's a piece of clay missing from the Eelektross's "shell." The whole figure seems to be vibrating.

"You've gotta be kidding me...!" You stand up and look to Bonnie. She seems determined, albeit tired.

"Bonnie?" You can hear her panting. Poor thing. You lay a hand on her neck and flinch internally. If she could only harness her heartbeat right now she'd master earthquake... She's exhausted. "Alright. Try and back me up. I'm going to catch it. Okay?"

Whether or not she understands you, she nods nonetheless. You take off into a sprint. Your eyes scan the stony form: cracks running over the surface, noises coming from inside the shell... What a powerhouse, to still keep going after being locked in fucking clay! "Come on, Bonnie!"

You hear her paws scamper after you.

The ball's in your hands and ready. You haven't handled a Great Ball very much before now, but... Hey! No better time to learn! With the massive size of this thing you're going to need something more powerful than a standard Pokeball. Aiming's still going to be a bitch...

You stop about thirty paces out and throw the reticle up: it catches the skin of the Eel where it broke off a piece of the shell. You start counting down, eyes scanning the small displays on the ball...

"6... 5..."

More crumbling. The ground is shaking. Your hair is standing on end.

"4..."

A spark hits a tuft of grass from the Eel, setting it alight. It's got part of its jaw free now.

"3... Fuckfuck...2...!"

The Eel breaks through the upper part of the clay, shaking its head about with death in its eyes. It locks onto you and you sweat. You pray. You curse. You eye the display on the ball again...

"Negative!? FUCK!"

The Eelektross is charging up a blast! You're gonna get smoked!
>>
>>37507959

Your thumbs move in a fury. You hit up and expand the algorhithms controlling data completion, you reduce the scan radius, you do everything you can think of...!

You scan for a second, reel back your arm, and throw. The Eel moves to spark off the blast. The ball smacks it in the head. There is a flash of light.

You collapse to the ground.

Shaking... Shaking....

Locked. Captured.

"Fuck yes."

>EEL ACQUIRED

You shakily get up and retrieve the ball before recalling Bonnie and heading over to Ness. Ridge gives the wire a good slap as you approach, then starts cheering. Seems he's done with his job.

Ness closes the gap between the two of you quickly, jumping up and tackling you in a hug. You just laugh nervously and pat her on the back.

"My reason was nearly overpowered by my more basic, emotional responses: I was very concerned for your well-being and considered abandoning my post."

"It's, uh, okay Ness...?"

"I considered running over and shooting the Eel. Do not scare me like that again."

>"Right. I won't."

"Right. I'll try not to. But how about making sure reason wins, okay?" You bonk her on the head with a knuckle. She doesn't look amused at first but your smile turns her around. "No wasting bullets, dummy. I had Bonnie to back me up."

"And Bonnie was wounded. You were not being rational yourself."

"Yeah, well, have faith in me. Trust me, remember...?"

She goes quiet at that. "Yes. I... I remember. Trust in you; that is how relationships work."

"Speaking of which..." You pull the great ball off and hand it to her. She gives a mild look of confusion before taking it. "I want to trust you with this. Consider it a gift and, well, something to defend yourself with."

"But I have the firearm."

"It's better than a firearm. We just have to register and train it a bit, right?"

"Perhaps." She looks at the ball intensely. Her thumbs rub smooth circles over its surface. "Thank you. Perhaps caring for a living being other than you will be good for me. I shall name it Ross."

You give her a friendly slap on the shoulder and turn to the Ranger, covered in grease and looking mighty pleased with himself.

"Alright, Ridge! How're we doing? Can we get the supplies now?" He gives a thumbs up.

"Damn straight. Lemme get washed up a bit and then we're off. Hey," he offers a hand and you clasp it for a good, manly shake. "Good job with the Eel. Consider being a Ranger?"

"Eh. Maybe someday." The three of you move out, Ridge taking a slow pace so that he can get a water bottle out and over his head. "Survival is my bigger priority right now. Besides," You laugh a bit. "Red isn't really my color."

Ness actually chuckles a bit. "Gray is your color, yes? It is funny because your name is Grey."

You sigh. You sigh the sigh of a poor, tired man that has to put up with shitty jokes about his name. "Yes, Ness. My name is Grey. Good one."

"Thank you. Yes, I am getting much better with humorous jokes."

"Yeah. Anyways... As soon as I'm done with this tour, I'm going for champion. Maybe Ranger, breeder, Professor... Maybe those things scattered around, too."

Ridge gives you some mild encouragement, joking about "going for it all" while Ness is oddly quiet. She only offers an "Ah," otherwise looking into the distance with a cold yet wistful expression.

>>>>

You swing back into the compound without incident. The other survivors are in a much better mood, and you and your team are able to get medical care much more in line with what you have come to expect. The only hangup was the Eelektross. You and Ness had a discussion about registering it. She's already concerned about telegraphing your whereabouts...

"Grey, please: I insist. If I register and heal Ross, we must immediately move to a different area. It is only sensible."

"Yeah, I know... I know... Just lemme think about it."

"Let's talk about it over dinner or something, alright?" Ness agrees to this and you sit down to the nicest meal you've had in weeks. With the digitizers running again the Rangers pull out all the stops: alcohol, steak, salmon, pasta, salads, potatoes...

Ridge, sitting at a collection of tables mashed together, invites you, Ness, and the nurses to sit with him. You oblige, chatting for a bit before you realize that the other two rangers are actually cooking the food. You excuse yourself and head to the back where you help. You're good at listening and there's nothing too complex to fix so your assistance is helpful. The Rangers are somber, very somber, but the happiest they've been in a while. Once the alcohol really starts flowing they begin sharing old stories, laughing, and even crying a bit in memory of their lost comrades.

A handful of them died around the compound or while out in the field. The initial attack was brutal. Fire, stone, lightning... Everything thrown at them all at once. Many died on both sides.

The food is soon plated and you sit down next to Ness. There's a nice air of camaraderie and celebration, the undertone of despair having been pushed out and away from everyone's minds for now. Bread is passed, bread is broken. Drunken laughs are shared. You even encourage and get Ness to indulge in some hard cider, which she takes to quickly because, as she says,

"I greatly like the taste," she pauses to take another swig. "It reminds me of apple juice but... More extreme. I feel as if I should be drinking this from one of thoseboxes... with the strawie-straws. Yes yes?"

"A juice box, Ness...?"

"Yes. Jew's box."

"Erm, yeah. Close enough." It's odd: she's a paragon of restraint and order, and then she's not. It's like one extreme or the other. She's completely in control of her emotions... Until she isn't. There are multiple times you have to drag her into another conversation topic because she starts talking about "coitus" or "remember when I was IN your MIND and then I came out different?"

Yeah, she's quite the lightweight. Granted, she's been throwing back cider like a Magikarp in water. You doubt your own ability to remain coherent after drinking quite that much.

"Andyesh, Grey, perhaps... Yes, ah, what ifsh I call Erwin in your stead-now? No tracky-tracky me...?" You nod and laugh as she mumbles in between bites of filet.

"I doubt that's a good idea. Your words are, uh, scrambled... Too scrambled. He wouldn't understand. He'd never find us!"

That's it.

Scramble.

"Fuck... Ness. That's it. That's what we have to do!"

"Fuh-h-ck? We haveses to Fuck?!" She yells, getting up and excited in voice and posture. The Rangers set to laughing. They slap knees and start cheering over their own drinks. The nurses roll their eyes. You get embarrassed for Ness.

"No. Scramble the message! Just... Come with me. You've had enough, anyways."

"Okay! Time to do itsh, now! Lemme get readysh!" And she starts taking off her shoes. You groan and drag her away.
>>
>>37509677

You settle down in the back and call out to Voltergeist. An old-style printer whirs to life and begins producing sheets of paper. You look at them, each showing an image that when flipped through creates a flipbook. A flipbook... Of a Rotom hip-thrusting.

"Very funny. And artistic, actually...." You give it an approving nod. "Impressive. ANYWAYS! Wanna fuck with some bad guys?"

A large "YES" is printed out.

"Gonna need you to try something new and crazy, then...."

You set to work with Volts, explaining the situation and going over how he might scramble messages and tracking signals. He deliberates over it, poking through some electronics before coming back with a "YES. CAN DO. PLEASE PROVIDE ALCOHOL"

You laugh and ask what he's talking about.

"CAN SMELL ON DRUNKY'S BREATH. GIMME THE GOOD STUFF. SHARING IS CARING."

"Can you even fucking drink...?"

"GOOD POINT."

You pull the book out and flip to the number. You smile and run your thumb over the cover fondly. This thing has come in handy so much...! You thank the stars for meeting Erwin, and then thank the stars for him. Hopefully he's okay...

Ness sits next to you, quiet now. She moves out of that phase quickly, though. Drunk Ness sure is talkative...

"Grey. Grey-fer."

You laugh. "Grey-fer? That's new."

"Yes. It is your real name now. You named me Ness I... I name you Gray-fer." You give her a rub on the shoulder and smile. She gives a large, goofy smile back before trying to kiss you. You laugh and turn away, giving her your shoulder.

"Kissmeee."

"No, Ness. There's work to do." You look at her and she's... she's frowning. It nearly breaks your cold heart. Ah well. You get back to work.

"I sense you will soon be reunited with your girlfriend. And then you shall no longer need me..." She sighs and backs away. You continue typing information in for Voltergeist. "What does she have that I do not?" You hear the rustling of fabric. You turn and she's taken her shirt off. Again.

"DAMMIT Ness! Come on! I'm doing something important! What about, ugh," you turn away and ignore her as she wraps her arms around you. "What about assisting me?! With important stuff? My mission? You know!?"

"Do-don-don't... Dontleaveshme, Grey...!"

And then you sigh. You sigh and you sit there, grumbling, as she cries into your shirt.

"Volts...?"

"THIS IS FANTASTIC. I NEEDED MATERIAL FOR MY NOVEL. DON'T STOP."

"Can you digitize a bra and some women's clothes...? Please?"

"YOU ARE THE DEVIL. WHAT YOU ASK OF ME MUST BE ILLEGAL."

"What the hell...? You've got the personality of a horny 50 year-old man, Volts!"

"I ALWAYS USED DOG-YEARS. MORE BIRTHDAYS THAT WAY."

"HERE YOU GO. YOU MONSTER." Volts throws up a screen with a selection of women's clothes and underwear. This is, uh, awkward. Awkward, weird, intimidating... But necessary. Ness only has one pair, it's currently wet, and she can't walk around in your handmedowns forever.

"Ness?"

"Wh-what...?" She sucks in and wipes away some tears. With your shirt.

"Pick out some clothes."

"I do not want to. I sh-sh-shall wear these. Yours. Forever." She goes to crying again. It's pitiful, like a young girl's first time crying. Pitiful, ugly, and sad. You... Do feel some sympathy for her, but it's tempered with impatience. "I shall al-always have this even if I can'tsh have yoush...!"

"Ness...? Ness! Dammit, go upstairs and go to sleep if you're gonna be like this, you dumbass. You're not used to me drunk."

She just sobs harder.

You sigh as she goes on crying. Volts offers his support.

"ICE COLD, MAN. HEARTBREAKER." And then he throws a little "</3" onto the screen. You wave him off and then take a closer look at the digital "catalog."

Gonna have to pick out SOMETHING for the dumbass...

You flip through a few options idly before settling on what you think is most practical and ergonomic. The fact that the cheapest set of the sportswear stuff is gray is... well... an unhappy coincidence. You and Volts pull it up and digitize it.

While you wait for the machine to finish you turn to Ness with a sigh. You put her shirt back on her. She hiccups and groans occasionally. You offer her some water, pat her on the back, and treat her decently. She's frustrating, but she means well.

"I know you do. Really." You pull her into you, arm wrapped around her shoulders. "And so I'm not going to abandon you. I don't even know why you'd think that... I've never said anything like that, right?"

She shakes her head sadly.

"But you have to respect me and my feelings, okay? And the fact that I'm taken." You give her a squeeze and then offer up the clothing, both under and outer wear. The outer wear was simple enough... You got her the Sortie standard in Grey. Might as well match, right?

"Now put this on and head to bed. I'm going to take care of some stuff. I'll head to bed shortly myself, alright?"

"Alright." She gives a weak smile. "I shall miss you."

The cry seems to have sobered her up a bit. You nod and she heads off, fully-clothed.

Why the hell would TITAN do this? isn't it exactly what they fought against? Was it pride, greed, stupidity, blind anger, or insanity? Don't they know who many people will die because of this, or do they just not care?
>>
>>37511421

I imagine so. I really want to see Grey bitch slap the taste out of one of the Zealot's mouths before laying into them verbally.
>>
>>37511421
>why would TITAN do this?
Because they're pretending to be the saviours of the crisis by stepping in and fixing the shit they deliberately made.

Then they take control of the majority's favours if not just control depending on how much of the government 'sadly gets killed by wild pokemon'.

Then they unite a nation and war on the rest or something. Or maybe their end goal really is just to exterminate pokemon or perhaps remove the ARC shards to prevent weird entities dicking around with peoples' minds.
>>
>>37511421
because they hate pokemon. they hate pokemon and what everyone to see them for what they really are, killing machines. they want to be the anchor point that humanity rallies behind when the arc goes offline. that way they can seize power and control and untie humanity under one banner

I chose this because the thought of ninja assassins crossed my mind...

I'd like too know more about her feelings for us...at first she made it sound like it was her human nature acting through and trying to provide stress relief...then it started to seem more personal...why is she so attached to us...is it the thing in our head...is it because she has to care for us anyway...don't press her too much though just curious...
And more about her if she can tell us...I just still don't get it entirely...
>>

But we've seen the pokemon world and we aren't as in stress or as in pain. Mustache twirling villainy may be the name of the game for the different teams, but Titan is the only one he has encountered so far. It's alien to him, which I why I was wanting him tot hink on it.

Yeah, still it's been what 2 weeks? An insane minion does not bode well, but there is a difference between one insane raving maniac and a group of people trying to create a war to exterminate all of humanity(as far as Grey sees it) Take some thought to wrap your head around
>>
Looks like I acually made it here in the middle of the thread. I didn't even know you were running today though.
>>
>>37511603
Well sure he can ponder it some more but:
- They KIDNAPPED HIM. He already considers them the epitome of villains
- He's aware of prof's research on poke-control
- He's aware of psychic superbeings that influence people (eg Veda)
- He's aware that TITAN are capable of resisting the superbeings somewhat (Hesper fighting it off)
- He's aware that an area around the place he was held had pokemon go wild

He can deduce:
- That TITAN are responsible for using manmade means to make pokemon go wild.
- That the fact that TITAN were saving Atlan on the public news channel suggests that they are trying to appear the good guys

Their goals are just speculation on his part. Standard world domination guess and then a guess regarding their distaste for psychic superbeings controlling them
>>
>>37511689
True still Thinking on it may give him some resolve to do what is needed and maybe a little sanity.
>>
>>37511721
I didn't even vote for either option, I'm just pointing out that:
>isn't it exactly what they fought against? Was it pride, greed, stupidity, blind anger, or insanity? Don't they know who many people will die because of this, or do they just not care?

Isn't what he should be thinking on. He can already deduce the reasons behind most of that
>>
>>37511354

Silence and privacy restored, you finish up with Volts. You scrub what information you can find that "went through the pipes" when you healed your team. You register Ross with Ness's information, too. You check out the news... Sure enough, attacks are international. You and Volts spend a good amount of time poring over some statistical data (that you scrounge up almost manually) in order to better understand this whole situation. Definitely seems to be a pattern, with attacks spreading out over areas in a local and then regional sense...

"Seems like there are points where the interference is being emitted. Like... towers or something, yeah?"

"YES, MASTER. ASTUTE OBSERVATION."

You chuckle. "Smart ass. Always wanted a robot butler... Now I'm one step closer to that super-hero. What's he called...?"

"NO IDEA."

"Anyways, we... We should target the towers, maybe? Tower by tower? Or maybe at least spread the word.. You think you could handle that tonight? Spread some mischief? Give it to those TITAN fucks real good. Let everyone know what's going on. Maybe don't blame TITAN, but say that the signal is definitely man-made."

You get an evil smiley face in response, along with a picture of hands in a steeple.

"EXCELLENTTTT."

"Awesome. I'll, uh, do what I can on the ground. In the meantime..." You look over Erwin's number again. You need to reach out, but... What if people are dead? Do you really want to find out immediately? Tonight?

"I'll be back first thing in the morning. Seeya thing, Volts."

"ADIOS, CHIEF."

You go up to the room the Rangers lent to you. It's intimidating, saddening, even, how many empty rooms there are. With a heavy mind, heart, and shoulders you head into yours. You expect Ness is already asleep at this point, dreaming through her drunkeness...

"Ness?"

And there she is, on the small cot and wrapped up in blankets. He knees hugged to her chest and her back against the wall, you find her sitting in silence with only the moonlight for a companion.

You quietly shut the door. Your footsteps are light, your body quiet as it moves through the silvery wisps of light. You sit at the edge of the bed and methodically undress before changing into your nightwear. Ness is silent and unmoving the whole time. It eats at you, and you touch on guilt, anger, sadness, hope... You can't read her like she can you. It's not fair.

"Do you want to talk?"

"I, ah... I have considered putting my wants aside, Grey." She nods and goes back to regarding the moon. You wait. Tense moments of quiet. "Perhaps I grew into this new mindset too quickly. Perhaps I have succumbed to lesser desires and emotions too much. Perhaps I should change, or better said 'revert to my old ways.'"

"What...? No, why do you need to change?" You move, shifting in the bed until you're nearly beside her. "You don't need to change."

"Yes. Yes I do." She grips the sheets in tight fists and pulls them tighter around her small form. "I do not believe I can sufficiently live and perform my duties if... if I do not bury my feelings for you. It is too hard," her breath catches. A moment later and she's shoved it down back into the void of impassiveness. "It is too hard being so close to you and yet so far."

You touch her shoulder softly, a heartfelt sadness on your face. She shifts away a bit, ever so slightly.

Part of you is confused, part of you thinks she's overreacting... Is she forced to feel this way? Does she do it herself? Who is she trying to be? What does she want?

throwing my support with >>37512357

Whatever she learnt from the ??? in our head effectively rewrote her world view. Regardless of the reason behind it, we are now effectively the centre of her 'reality', we wanted her to be more human so parts of her 'old reality' were copied and modified to fit into her 'new reality'. She mentioned that she was a Clone who had only one important person, and that person died. It is possible that her attachment to us is partially based on not wanting to experience that loss again... therefore it could be that in her mind, she has placed us where her important person was which is why she has the feelings towards us she does.
Though this is merely my opinion based on my limited knowledge and observations... It could be something much simpler, or something completely different. Just something to think on...
>>
>>37512521
I think it's a combination of factors:
- As you said, it was interacting with Grey that reformed her whole perspective of everything. When someone does that for you... you tend to be pretty obsessive about them
- No one else in the world for her. She had that dead person and TITAN til now
- Grey has been the near-perfect gentleman towards her (I say near simply because we did start by tackling her to the floor and disarming her, followed by a few hours of deep mistrust)
- Grey has a really tight ass.

I think it's the mix of physical attraction, hormones, the fact Grey's been nice to her and the fact that Grey has redefined how she thinks about everything.

I'd hesitantly say that were she not to find us attractive she would instead fill the archetypal role of that obsessive fanboy or the person who's life gets saved so they insist it is now yours or whatever

"Ness, you're not far away from me. Physically, emotionally, or otherwise. I'm right here and I think we've closed a lot of distance over the short time we've been together. Fuck, it's only been a couple days, right? I don't mean to diminish it: that's impressive!"

She nods a bit. "I now understand our perspectives are similar and yet different, then: I know so much, if not everything about you. I have touched and explored your mind. You... have not done the same for me. And perhaps there is not an opportunity for you to do so. What experiences are of this one, and which are of Seline? I do not fully understand it myself."

She sighs. Her head makes a slow, gentle descent onto your shoulder. The two of you sit like that for a time, breathing. Living. Holding in a tiny world of peace and comfort when there's a world of death and danger just outside the window. A world of possibilities: and few of them bright.

"Imagine... Imagine I was captured by TITAN. Or, hell, imagine we just lost track of one another. How would you feel?"

"Every resource of my being would be devoted to reuniting with you."

"And... why do you feel that way?"

She goes quiet. You look at her from the corner of your eye. Body drawn up, eyes tight... Arms wrapped around her knees.

"You seldom hesitate. Why do you hesitate know, Ness?"

"My body and mind are responding as if I am afraid. I do not quite understand it. There is no immediate danger, and yet when I consider saying 'I love you' to you I freeze."

You both nod. You feel your stomach clench, but you try not to let it show.

"I see... So, uh... You just said it, yeah?"

She nods. Nodding, nodding... Then it hits her. Her hands go to her mouth and her eyes go wide.

Love is not something you can rationalize or explain. It is strange, it happens when and where it chooses to happen.

Imagine that we both had and shared those feelings, then imagine that I suddenly disappeared with no warning and you had no way of knowing where I was or what happened to me. Then after weeks apart, I returned. However, I was having a relationship with another person who you had never known. How would you feel about that? What would you think? What would you do?
Because for me to return your feelings would be to put Dani in that situation, and I cannot, in good conscience, do that.

"Emotions are hard to control. Even for you, alright?" You wrap your arms around her a bit, settling her and continuing to hold her wrists. One of her hands seems to try and lightly touch at yours. You ignore it, shifting away subtly. She seems to take the hint but remains unwilling to give up.

"You can't bottle them up. That's bad. Humans can't do that... And being human isn't bad. Having emotions isn't bad. Everyone has them, it's just..." You sigh. Is this what it feels like giving "the talk?" Nobody ever gave you an instruction manual on emotions and talking through them. Nobody ever had this talk with you... Except Dani. She talked to you about your emotions, right?

"It's not about having them, Ness. It's about dealing with them. They can drive you to do great, tremendous things like rescue me if I was captured again. And I would do that for you, because I think we will be great, close friends. And I would do it for Dani: because I love her. You understand? That's how I feel about Dani."

"I understand, Grey. I shall reflect on your words further as our time together passes."

"Thank you. But... I would really like you to share more with me. You don't have to be silent, and you don't have to... Try and force me into things. Sometimes it's nice to just talk, yeah?" You squeeze her a bit and smile. She gives a tiny smile back. "That's one strategy people have for dealing with those damn emotions."

"Talking? Talking. I see." Her breathing takes on a more deliberate tone for a moment as she settles herself. "I feel scared of losing you. Scared of losing your attention and what little affection I have. This is important to me... both because of Seline's mental configuration and because you are the central figure in my current predominant mental configuration."

You try to process that. "I... Uh, could you... explain, please?"

"You are the most important thing in my life, and Seline considers protecting and loving such central figures a core part of her being. There is so much I know about you, Grey: and thus so much I respect, admire... and love."

"I see. Continue?"

"Yes... And I also have a unique insight into your future as well as your past. I feel this means I have a special connection to you, yes? One nobody else does. One no other may understand."

You nod and give her a friendly squeeze.

"And I am attracted to you. You have a, how do I say it,... Very nice 'ass?'"

You get into a laughing, coughing fit.

"I have wondered, yes: would you say aloud that you also found me attractive physically?"

>Uhhhhh
>Yeah, sure
>I can't do that, Ness

We need to get her a Ditto.

Or clone ourselves in something like Mewtwo's cloning machine from the first movie.

In the meantime, we really should tell her that it's okay for her to masturbate as long as we don't see or hear it, like when we're asleep.

I bet Deoxys was the first Pokemon in this universe, or at least Deoxys' precursor. "Magic Space Virus" would be a decent explanation for how animals were turned into the first generation of Pokemon.

Oh, and as for the possibility of catching humans in Pokeballs? I bet it's been done. Problem is, every time so far, what comes out of the ball isn't human anymore. It’s a Missingno.

"I understand that. I was merely confirming your thoughts and physical reactions."

Ah. Sure.

"I... I also am starting to understand your feelings and commitment to Dani. I am slowly constructing a broader perspective within my narrower, more human one. This conversation has helped greatly."

That's a relief.

"If I... were in her position, I would most likely not object to you finding emotional comfort and physical pleasure with another. I think. That is what my reason communicates to me, but... My emotions speak differently."

"That's how most people are, yeah? It's called jealousy. Envy, depending on the situation."

"It is an ugly, yet powerful thing."

"That it is. It's human nature."

"Human nature... Grey, you believe I am human, yes? You believe me when I say my feelings are 'genuine,' correct? I know you are skeptical."

"You have emotions that guide you, a working mind. Flesh, bones, blood, and a heart, right? You're human. I think you are." You nod and think back on the days behind you.

"At first I was skeptical: you seemed mechnical, perhaps even controlled by... the ARC or something. I wouldn't be suprised. But now? Now you're different. You've grown so much. And that's what living is: changing. Growing. Developing. We're very much alike, Ness."

You hold her hand up and point to various parts, various similarities. "We share much, and we share much in how we feel: I just think you need time to grow. To find something. Find yourself, even? Each of us is a little misguided. A little... lost, on our own path. People who... love each other, they help each other find their way."

She smiles and snuggles into you more. You sigh and move away a bit, but let her rest.

"I want... I want to show you something. You see this?" You hold up your necklace, the one you got to match Dani's. "This is special to me. It anchors me." You flip it open, and a parade of happy holograms shines over your faces. "And I need to find the matching one. Dani has it. We've built something, and I can't let that go yet. Maybe ever."

She nods and, wrapping her hand around yours, closes the locket.

"I promise."

"You... promise? Promise to what?"

"I promise that..." She kisses you on the cheek. It's slow, loving, yet chaste.

You watch her with wariness, curiosity, and also concern. There's something to that cold ferocity she's donned that's not unlike a predator. And yet, there is also a softness to her: a sad, hollow love that echoes on her lips.

"I shall... I shall never stop loving you." She pushes your hands and the necklace down before crawling away from you. She makes a show of preparing the bed, punching the pillows and dragging the sheets around. "That is my anchor. That WILL be make anchor."

"Ness, you need to understand tha-"

"No. I understand, Grey: I understand that... if I cannot be what you want, then I shall be what you need. There is pride in usefulness, and you shall compartmentalize and focus your love on me in a way that does not emotionally conflict with your love for Dani."

She flops into the bed, pulling the sheets up and over her face.

"You shall come to love me. I am intelligent and, how you might say it... 'Thick-headed,' I believe is the term you often think of."

You blush a bit.

"I'm sorry... It's not necessarily bad, though!"

"I am tired. You are tired." You sigh and consider your options. The couch looks good... "I... Deeply want to thank you for talking to me." She lifts the covers up and looks at you, hair messily strewn over her face. "You are a good friend. Dani is very lucky"

You give her a thumbs up and lay down. There were a couple spare sheets and pillows, thankfully.

Sleeping arrangements with Ness is a game. That must be it, really. Cat and mouse, or something. A game of fuckin' attrition.

You had just gotten settled into the couch and were almost asleep when she made the first move: quietly, she slipped out of the bed and then tip-toed over. Quietly, slowly she slipped out of her shirt. Then she moved beside you. You had to give her credit: she was sneaky. She made the fatal flaw, however, of trying to hold your hand while you slept. You figured that was mistake enough, and she knew it herself: she audibly cursed after doing it and squeezing so hard as to make you twitch.

You got up at that and just gave her a Look.

"I'm going to assume you prefer couches, okay? I'm going over there now." You gesture to the bed. "DON'T follow me."

You throw her an extra sheet and then climb into the bed. Once more, you're almost asleep... You even feel bad for her, as you can see her eyes peering at you sadly through the darkness. You mutter a few words of apology, of guilt. A few words that shame you, but you feel them nonetheless.

"I do want you. I'm sorry."

But you're not. Not sorry just to her... Sorry to Dani, sorry to Seline, sorry to yourself... Sorry to Ness. It's a messed up situation. Had you not been... captured...

"Then I wouldn't have met you, Grey."

You come to with a start. She's in bed again. Your arm is holding her, your fingers wrapped about her hair. You must have fallen asleep.

"Ness... Ness, please, just... Sleep? Seperate?"

"Grey... I won't be able to do this forever. Please, just think of me. Be generous. Do this for me? Please?"

You relent. You have no choice. You could feel the depths of her loneliness: she literally has no other person in her life. You're all she has. You have to treat her well. She deserves it...

You fall asleep together: Ness with a smile on her face. You, with a bit of drool on the pillow. It's one of the better nights you'll have for a long time.
