{Fulvia, I want you to ride in the carriage and see that it makes it back to our new estate. Oh, and I'll be having Zahak ride with you in the back. Anyone else is free to join them, though I myself will be walking.}

Mortia and Skull Kid speak almost simultaneously. {Dibs on a carriage seat!} They both exclaim, their thoughts muddling together at the back of your mind and forming a strange, inhuman voice all its own. One of the inconveniences of the brooches few downsides, they're not good at handling multiple people speaking at once. It turns into an incomprehensible jumble very quickly.

Darzi speaks up as well after a moment's hesitation. {I believe I will ride within the carriage as well. It would be problematic where I to encounter anyone that I know. I believe that so far as the City Guard are concerned, I am a dead woman.}

That is an issue, you suppose. It would raise some inconvenient questions where she to be recognized by some passerby. Once you're fairly confident that neither Chrys or Prof are going to step forward to claim a carriage seat for themselves, you reach out to Zahak via the mental link you share. You don't feel confident enough in his understanding of either Samjan or Rhynian to try and communicate to him verbally, so instead merely focus on the route you took from the sitting room to the back entrance, and your desire for him to remain invisible until such a time as he enters the carriage.

It's only a short while later that the door burst open, the sound of claws scraping against stone ringing out across the sheltered alcove the camels and carriage are stored in. There's a loud hiss, and something butts against the door of the carriage. You step forward and carefully pull it open. The carriage rocks heavily under Zahak's weight as he climbs inside, slowly fading into visibility as he enters. Once inside he scales his way onto the central table and curls up on himself, getting comfortable. You urge him to stay until such a time as you reach out to him, and then step aside to allow your companions to climb in.

Fulvia has seen to rousing the camels and hitching them to the carriage in the interim. She approaches you with a massive glob of camel spit sliding down the projected image of her face. You're not sure if it's just a projection, or if she's doing it to reflect actual camel spit hidden beneath the projection. Regardless, you're not eager to reach out and touch it.

“We are ready to leave at your command, Mikhael.” She states matter-of-factly. “As the location of our destination is unknown to me, I will defer to your leadership and ride behind you and the slaves.”

You nod, and she turns sharply on her heels to climb up into the driver's bench of the carriage. Perhaps it is merely your imagination, but she seems to be acting... well, less human than she usually does. Perhaps it's merely your imagination.

You wander out of the sheltered alcove to find most of your twenty six new slaves at rest. Many of them have taken seats against the wall of your master's home, lined up in a single row. Prema watches them diligently, arms folded in front of her chest. She is not exactly what you would describe as an intimidating woman, in fact you'd think a particularly strong wind might bowl her over, but none of your slaves seems to have attempted escape so you're not particularly inclined to question her.

You clap your hands together to get their attention. “Alright everyone, it's time to get going. Follow me and I'll lead you to my estate. Once we arrive, we'll need to get to work immediately. I have a get together planned in three days time and there is a lot of work which must be done before then.”

As a unit your servants get to their feet, Prema taking up position at the head of the column. Flanked on either side by Profectus and Chrys, you begin your walk through the Vatis District. You hear the rumbling of carriage wheels along paving stones following behind you shortly after you set off, and of course the discordant rhythm of jangling chains and marching feet.

You glance towards Profectus, a question occurring to you. “I would have thought you would be upset to learn I had enslaved your kind, Profectus.”

He glances back at the column of slaves, the vast majority of them elven, and frowns slightly. “I don't know if I'd call them 'my kind' exactly. I mean, they look more human than elf. Terribly short, not the least bit graceful, blocky features. Gods, Mikhael. I'd go so far as to say I have more in common with your kind than my own.”

He shrugs, turning his attention to the city before him. “Besides, my people have always been enslaved. First by the Dragons, then by other Elves, then by the Dwoveth, then by the Rhynians, and now once more by other Elves if the rumors we've heard of that warlord fellow are to be believed. It's merely the way of my people. If ever we accomplish something worthy of note, it is because we are under the yolk of another. At least, that's the way it seems to my mind.”

You have to admit, you find that sort of complacency disgusting. While you would rather be a slave than a poor man, the best option in your mind is to avoid both. Were you forced to sell yourself into slavery you can only imagine you would constantly strive to earn your freedom. Perhaps that mentality is the result of your upbringing, your father has always been very proud of your family's former status as slaves. Emphasis on former. He used to tell you that the Abdul-Hakims have already broken their chains, never again shall they be subservient to another.

Chryssa's voice interrupts your thoughts. “Where does El-Amin receive the majority of its slaves from? My father used to tell me of villagers going missing, snatched in the night by your people. There has not been a case of such raiding in my lifetime that I can recall.”

To be honest, you've only the vaguest idea of where the slaves that work El-Amin's fields and attend to its upper class come from. “So far as I know most are bought from native slavers. I imagine the markets are inundated with Elves due to the ongoing wars of conquest taking place across their lands. Humans are common as well for the same reason, constant internecine warfare continuously introduces new slaves to the marketplace. It's also my understanding that many slaves in El-Amin are second or third generation slaves; humans die so quickly you can hardly get your money's worth in only one of their lifetimes.”

Chryssa seems to contemplate this, before asking a follow up question. “It is the custom of my people, if a town or village we desire resist conquest, to enslave the women and children while slaughtering every man who has begun to grow his beard. So that any remnant of the people who originally populated the area will be wiped out within a few generations time. Your people do not seem to share this practice. Why do you continue to allow your enemies to live when it would be more prudent to wipe them out utterly?”

You pause, staring at her for a moment. It takes you a moment formulate an appropriate answer. “Well, Chrys. My people don't tend to wage war against other races often. Our homeland contains all that we might want and more. The only true rival that the Shahdom faces is the Samrat of Kulkarni, a polity ruled and populated with our own kind. It would prove counter productive to wipe out our own kind, regardless of perceived differences. Is that sort of mentality common among humans?”

Chrys nods firmly, and Profectus speaks up to lend his own knowledge to the discussion. “It's common among Elves as well, or at least it used to be. Not when I was still walking about. That's one of the reasons I joined the military in the first place, they were peace keepers. Put a stop to the destruction of entire peoples over petty disagreements like how to properly dress or what gods are most important among our vast pantheon.”

You resume the trek towards your new estate, mildly disturbed by how utterly violent other races seem to be. Truly, they're degenerate barbarians. You do find yourself wondering if perhaps your own people practiced the same customs before being unified beneath the flag of Hiacia, and whether or not they would resort to such barbarism if either the Shahdom or the Samrat collapsed into a mass of warring city-states.

Conversation turns towards more pleasant topics after that, you learn that Elves do in fact have their own pantheon of gods though worship in his time was waning. So far as he's aware the Rhynian gods were largely aspects of Elven gods, or straight copies with different names. He doesn't actually know how many gods the Elves revere in total, but he claims that in his time they numbered well above one hundred.

It isn't long before you find yourself standing before the great iron gates that bar entry into your estate. You note that the chain has been removed, as has the for sale sign. Curious, but hopefully a good sign.

You reach out to your party via the brooches. {I'm going to go inside and look around the place, make sure everything is taken care of in terms of ownership. If an hour passes and I've yet to return, come looking for me. I'll probably have been imprisoned by a spirit of some sort.}

You're met with a chorus of assent, though you note that Chrys gives hers only reluctantly, and with that stride through the gates. You find the entry hall much as you left it, water cascading down intricate stone statues, runes carved into their surface glowing with some strange internal light. The fat tom cat you know to be the mundane form of the spirit which inhabits this place sits atop one of the pillars, contentedly lapping at a stream of water. You didn't think spirits actually needed to consume either food or drink.

Now that you know what to look for, its eyes stand out like a sore thumb. You wonder to yourself how you managed to miss them in the first place. You suppose it does tend to keep its eyes either heavily lidded or closed, probably a wise move on its part. Regardless you ignore the cat for now and make for the door at the opposite end of the hall.

Pushing through the doors you find the same fat tom that was behind you merely a moment ago rubbing against your leg affectionately, a deep purr seeming to reverberate through the room. You suppose it's happy to see you, or something. How can the spirit act so gruff and irritable in that strange realm of its own invention but so pleasant and, well, unassuming in reality?

It hops up onto one of the long dining tables and stalks along its length. You follow behind it, making for the stairs. It greets you on the second story, even though you never saw it leap off of the table. You find yourself growing mildly irritated by this cat's antics. It seems to be doing this purely to mess with you. Regardless, you ignore the creature and open the library door.

You're greeted by a veritable temple of knowledge, shelves covering the walls. A skylight allows light to stream in from above, revealing the general disarray of the room. Papers lie scattered about the decorative tile floors, furniture is tipped over and scattered about, and books lie everywhere. The place is a mess, save for the desk at the very center of the room. There a single tome sits, delicate chains binding it shut, and a keyhole sitting at its center.

You approach the book with no small amount of caution, eyeing the gems which dot its surface suspiciously. As you draw near the illuminations upon its cover seem to glow with some strange internal light, flowers blossoming into shades of white and purple. While beautiful, it does little to calm your nerves. You reach into your cloak and extract the key, grasping its strange crossguard-esque handle. The reaction from the book is immediately, the glow intensifying immeasurably. It sears your eyes just to look into the keyhole.

As you push the key into the lock, there's a soft click before the light dies completely. You find the chain, previously glowing with barely contained magical power, dead and inert. The bindings which held the tome together fallen away. Nothing immediately happens, though you feel a generally pervasive sense of unease. The cat is nowhere to be found, it doesn't seem to have followed you into the room.

Hell, for all you know I was rolling to figure out what forbidden knowledge the book contained, or to discern whether or not it was just an old picture book, or some old dude's journal.

Or maybe I was rolling to see what sort of horrible, sanity eroding nonsense was scrawled across the pages, and needed you to roll for Mik's ability to resist/comprehend such things.

For now, it remains a mystery.

We're dealing with a small set of people here though, and we are anonymous so unless we do a final destination vote the minority can always try to cry louder (like it did here).
The small subset of people that browse /tg/ can usually make pretty intelligent descisions, the anonymity is what enables really stupid choices to be made here.

What I really wanted to say was that I want to keep write-in as an option, if this happens every time and we have no way to come up with a potentially better solution on our own this quest would suddenly become a lot less attractive for me. I liked the early thread where we could come up and discuss write-in option and finally change our initial votes to a more thought out, better solution.
Now this only seems to happen with inconsequential choices, every time something really important happens people choose one of the presented options, the people that think about it and do write-ins come too late since the samefagging already started, the write-in option gets ignored and a final destination vote is done. And this seriously pisses me off.

You run your fingers along the edge of the tome, contemplating whether or not you should open it. That same odd sensation you felt last time you touched the cover creeps across the back of your hand, and up your forearm. Numbness follows in its wake. You're quick to remove your hand, shaking your arm to work some feeling back into it. After a few minutes the sensation fades, and you can feel your fingertips again. Still, you decide against opening the book for now. Perhaps later, after you've consulted with either the spirit or with Ricky.

You search the area briefly for the cat spirit, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the library. Stepping outside you find it sitting in the hallway, swishing its tail irritably back and forth. You can't help but smirk. “Alright, spirit. I've unlocked the tome as you directed me. Now then, where is the deed to this place? I assume our agreement is concluded.”

The cat stalks off towards the door at the center of the hall, where the study lies. You follow in its wake, the door swinging open as the cat approaches. You suppose you should be surprised, but to be honest you expected the cat to have some measure of control over the place. It stalks moodily up to the desk and leaps atop its surface, sitting down and starting to clean itself. A section of the desk slides away, allowing you a way to get behind it without climbing over it.

You make your way around the desk and sit back int the comfortable leather chair behind it. That section of the desk slides closed, and you hear a click from the drawer that was locked the first time you searched the desk. Reaching down you pull it open, finding a small stack of papers arranged neatly within. Picking up the paper on top of the stack you find it's a deed written in simple terms transferring ownership of one 'Guild Enclave – Eight blocks west and two blocks south of Pani's Temple' to the undersigned individual. The transfer is to be executed upon the 27th of Badali, 936 years after the fall of Hiacia. A strange signature in a script you don't recognize has already been scrawled out to indicate who the grantor is, all you need to do is sign your own name and the place is yours.

A feathered quill, already dipped in ink, appears in your hand. You eye the spirit suspiciously before quickly scrawling out your signature wherever it's needed. The quill vanishes, and you use just a touch of magic to dry the ink in an instant.

Taking a moment to inspect the other papers in the drawer, you find they mostly relate to the facilities which the estate possesses. There is an observatory above the study, which you've already seen, and a series of sea caves deep within the catacombs, which are accessible only via the servant's passages. The sea caves contain a dock and various structures suitable for the long term storage of goods as well as the housing of a small crew.

There are additionally a nursery and a Vatis' workshop hidden behind the master bedroom's bookcase and one of the bookcases in the observatory, respectively. You've already seen the workshop, but why they would hide a nursery, you're not sure. It seems a touch suspicious. Finally, the catacombs themselves connect to both the city sewer system and a variety of other buildings, allowing discrete passage through the city.

When you look up from the papers, you see neither hide nor hair of the cat spirit. It's simply vanished.

You're acting like this was some UNBELIEVABLE ONE TIME CHANCE holy shit, calm yourself. It's literally been there for 100 years, we can always just walk over and take it. Or use magic if we don't actually want to touch it.

Samjans are "immortal" biologically.
The ring keeps us sane. Which is why samjans don't live long. because they have to be put down when they lose to much sanity. Or they get them selves killed I assume.

But I believe that the the skulls said he had an artifact as helping him.
Or that may have been an assumption on their part. If the Water spirit was hiding it or something.

You sit at the desk for a time, drumming your fingers impatiently against its wooden surface. You wait for reality to tear open and start spewing monsters into the room, or for the roof to collapse on you, or for some other catastrophe to take place. Nothing proves forthcoming, but this still seems terribly easy. You didn't have to fight anything, or kill anyone, or try to convince a spirit not to kill you. You just shoved a key in a lock, signed some documents, and that was it.

You stand and make your way to the section of the desk which slid back to allow you entry. You feel along the bottom, eventually discovering a latch. You unhook the latch and the section of the desk sinks just slightly into the floor, allowing you to slide it into the rest of the desk so you can pass through. You slide it back behind you, and it clicks quietly into position.

You meander around the room, inspecting some of the titles on the shelves. You stop in front of the mirror and inspect your reflection, briefly. It's much as you recall from the last time you checked, a still image of you with a tentacles clasping your head in a vice grip. You ignore it, heading for the door. Pushing it open you are net met with an angry dragon-lion thing. Nor any other sort of monster. It's just an dirty hallway. You spend a little time searching the upper floor for that damned cat but don't find it anywhere, neither the libraries, bedrooms, or master bedroom. You don't bother to check the servant's passages.

The ring is fucking awesome. The varistha had to sacrifice memories and a lot of important things for him to keep his sanity. We just need to take week long vacations from the things that make us insane and let the ring do his thing.

Trekking downstairs and into the foyer, you find the cat sitting atop the statue you first found it at, curled up on its said and swishing its tail irritably. You'd almost say it looks dejected, but that doesn't seem right. You think you might be in shock, or something. This is just so far outside of your area of expertise. Things actually went off without a hitch. At least, that's the way it seems.

“What is that book, and why did you hope I would open it?” You ask the spirit, but your only reply is a slightly more vigorous swish of its tail. “Is it cursed? Why does it make whatever appendage I touch it with go numb? Will it kill me if I open it?”

Nothing. You suppose the spirit isn't contractually obligated to interact with you, nor are you contractually obligated to interact with it. You'd hoped you might get at least something out of it, but it seems disinclined to answer.

Wait, the pastebin doesn't really answer this question.

Are spirits alive, Soma? They have souls, eat souls, and trade power, form cute alt. dimensions so they can feel good about themselves, etc. But are they actually living creatures on any technicality beyond projecting a physical presence?
>>
Theres a reason he seemed unusually weak to be strutting around saying how powerful he was. Nigga locked in a book. The cats probably posessed, or a projection or something

He is actually pretty weak right now, Age =/= Power.

He was very recently bound and weakened.

Similar to Atma before we gave him to core.

The idea I was trying to get across is that there is a possiblity that he trumped up his power/import.
>>
>>37519635
>>37519605

I thought he was pretty low tier compare to the other we encounter.
>>
>>37519675
It's his mortal form. All Spirits have them. that's probably his usual one regardless of current power.

Not to say he isn't currently quite weak.

>>37519666
I do, soma said that the lower generations can become stronger, but hinted at the higher generations are stronger by default, and get a head start.

True, but if the comments from soma are anything to go by he can still fuck us upthough with ricky theres a low chance of any real damage happening.

It is not unheard of for "younger" spirits to become much more powerful than their "older" siblings.
>>
>>37519949
And we only have to kill the unimportant mistress. Pretty easy. Hell we can pull the same thing we did last time if she's not a bad person.
>>
>>37519952
Just like you said in the quote "become", shows that they start out weaker than the older generations, and by default that means the older generations are stronger on average, but can be surpassed due to circumstances.
>>
>>37519978
Problem being the thing we did last time had actual precedent to be done. There were far too many things working in concert to allow it to happen to bank on the possibility that a 'future imagined maybe' can be solved with the same method.
>>
>>37519978
Trust me, the assassinations are never going to be that simple. A regular old cut throat would do if they were. A sold soul is a pretty drastic measure when you could just hire a regulsr vatis assassin or something in stead of Magic Mik, the Mad Wandering Death Wizard

You cross the room and climb up a small set of stairs so that you can reach the cat upon its perch. You start petting it, and it seems to calm down at least somewhat. It starts to purr, the noise reverberating through the room. Even though it seems pleased it's still started swatting you in the face with its tail. Its fur is actually quite soft, more like hair than fur. It feels very realistic for something which your staff doesn't qualify as a living thing.

“Come on Mahana.” You adopt an infantile tone, as if you were talking to a baby or a cute animal. “You can tell me about the book, can't you? Who's a good kitty?”

You're met with a particularly firm swat in the mouth with its tail. This little fuckin' bastard... “I didn't want to bring this up, but by the terms of our agreement I technically own you now.”

The cat doesn't respond, merely continuing to swat you in the face with its tail. You're tempted to strangle the little bastard, though you resist the urge. “Don't make me send you to time-out in the void. I don't think the Elder guardian living inside would be very happy with you giving me troub-”

The cat vanishes, right before your eyes. No flash, no pop. It just disappears. You're left fondling thin air. You lower your arm, cursing under your breath. A quick look around reveals nothing. If you had to guess, the spirit probably teleported up to the workshop next to your observatory.

You turn around, and begin to make your way towards the dining hall and the stairwell up to the second floor. However, you trip upon an uneven flagstone. You're forced to channel vys just so you're able to catch yourself, one hand snapping out and grabbing hold of the edge of a pillar. It's a good thing too, because below you opens up a pit just wide enough for you to fit inside. It's deep, seemingly impossibly so. It falls away into darkness long before you can catch a glimpse of the bottom.
(1/?)
>>
>>37520568
That way we can collect wealth from people that we wouldn't normally steal from.

We should endorse bandits. Then go and kill them all and take their loot.
>>
So when does mik meet his mortal enemy the giant hairless bear
>>
The hole in the ground begins to spread, cracks spider webbing out across the flagstones. You manage to push yourself up and leap onto one of the pillars that make up the spirit's shrine just as the rest of the ground begins to crumble, falling into the bottomless cavern below. Surely this is all a hallucination. This couldn't actually be happening, right?

A voice seems to roll across the room like thunder, its point of origin impossible to discern. “Thing. A material object without life or consciousness; an inanimate object.”

You leap from the edge of the pillar you cling to, managing to grab the base of a near-by pillar. You have to expend vys to haul yourself up from the edge, but not much. You're beginning to think this may have been a miscalculation on your part, but you decide to doggedly stick with it. “Technically, it could also serve as a-”

The thin needle of stone on which your pillar sits is struck by something, you're not sure what. It begins to list precariously to one side, fortunately providing you to leap from it to the next pillar over. You take another flying leap across the vast expanse of empty air beneath you and crash into a doorway, spilling out into the ballroom on the other side. You're so happy to be back on solid ground you could almost shout for joy.

You haul yourself onto your feet just as the sound of cracking tiles echoes through the room from behind you. Turning around, you see the familiar form of the spirit which dwells within this house. Its claws knead the stone beneath its feet, tearing deep furrows in the stone and sending shards flying in every direction. You take a few steps back as it begins to veer off course, circling you.

(2/?)
>>
>>37520612
It doesnt seem like some kind of forceful binding. I think the higher entities in the void run on some kind of rigid caste system. Im guessing all portals into their realm have powerful elders 'bound' to them to see that they arent abused in either direction
>>
“No mortal may own one of the Gods' descendants. Let alone an arrogant madman descended from a race of slaves. You own the things which rest within these walls. You have no claim to me, nor to anything beyond what I grant you. Dare you insinuate again that I am your 'thing' and I will consume all that you hold dear, until all that remains is the broken shell of what you once were.”

Shit, he seems a little upset. Touchy subject, you suppose. Holding up your hands in mock surrender, you speak out in your defense. “I apologize for having misunderstood-”

The creature interrupts, its voice pounding into your skull from every direction. “Purposefully attempted to twist for your own gain.”

You clear your throat, a bead of sweat trickling down your cheek. “Right, of course. I apologize for purposefully attempting to twist the terms of our agreement for my own, personal gain. Perhaps over the course of future agreements we'll know better, and more stringently define the terms we use.”

The spirit growls low in its throat. “Perhaps in the future you will not be such a greedy, detestable wretch constantly striving to ring every ounce of profit from every possible situation, regardless of what you must do to get what you desire. I am amazed you don't prostitute yourself, you seem like the degenerate sort who'd sell himself for coin.”

Okay, now it's just insulting you. That doesn't even make sense. What do you look like, an elf? “Let's try to keep this civil, shall we? It was just business. I didn't mean any personal insult by what I said.”

(3/4)
>>
The spirit stops its circling, staring at you for a moment. It tenses itself, and you get ready to leap away from its pounce. Instead, it simply stalks back to the doorway and vanishes as it crosses the threshold. You're relieved to see that the entry hall is as it was before the creature had the floor turn into a bottomless pit, though deep gouges still mar the floor of the ballroom due to the creature's massive claws.

You get the feeling that it wasn't really trying to hurt you, merely send a message. Still, you're glad you managed to get rid of it. You'd hate to see what it was like when it was actually angry. You've certainly learned that insulting it in the middle of its shrine was probably a bad idea.

Best case: The Book is the Spirits core and throwing it into the Void and giving it to Ricky put it's Really as our Hostage cause Ricky can kill spirits.

Easiest case: throwing the book into the void deactivates any traps on it and it's a useful magical tome. Maybe similar to the Metal Codex.

Worst case: The book is the Spirits core and us attempting to throw the book into the cloak make it think we're trying to kill it. We then have to try to explain that we didn't know it was it's core.
>>
>>37521206
We also didn't know how the Metal Codex would react to being put in the cloak.

Give a reason why it would react to The Cloak any different than normal?
>>
>>37521206
>First point:
>We don't know how it'll react to being put inside the cloak
Ergo, we ask Ricky what would occur prior to doing so.

>Second point:
Unfortunately given the spirits obvious ability to manipulate the grounds of the mansion there is no telling whether or not it would be able to change its location on its own.
>>
>>37521206
>and there are plenty of other hidden away places inside the library we can put it
None as good as the Cloak
>>
>>37521208
More like:

Worst case: we put book in cloak, book goes off like a bomb or otherwise injures or kills Ricky.
>>
>>37521015
We should ask the spirit if that's okay wth him, don't want whatbjust hapoened to happen again, except with him actually trying to kill us.
>>
Welp it finally happened.
LQ attracted newfags into this quest, and they are purposely hoping this one fails.
>>
>>37521264
I'm sure the spell-immune elder is going to care about an explosion of vys.
>>
>>37521264
Ricky is many magnitudes more powerfull than this little shit. Not to mention Magic not only doesn't do shit in the void but Ricky seems to absorb Magic.
>>
>>37521049
>Quit projecting.

That is really all you have? The slightly higher reading level version of "no you"? I really don't give a shit about what happens to the book but the sudden out cry for sticking it in the cloak is just sad. "I'll teach that mean old spirit! He acted like he didn't want me to do something so I am going to do the fuck out it!"

Because the this book is on a whole another level to the metal codex. It literally radiates power.

>Ergo, we ask Ricky what would occur prior to doing so.
Yeah, sure

>Unfortunately given the spirits obvious ability to manipulate the grounds of the mansion there is no telling whether or not it would be able to change its location on its own.

I don't think the spirit can actually interact with objects inside the mansion, just the mansion itself. Of course that also begs the question as to why he would want to hide the book from us in the first place? I don't really get what your point is there.

Dude, Putting The Book in The Cloak is the safest possible option. That thing is a time bomb waiting to cause us trouble, the cloak is the safest place for it.
>>
>>37521317
It saddens or displeases you then you will have to deal with it on a personal level, just the same as everyone else.
Nothing I said had came about for the reasons you choose to believe, and so I'm left with little recourse as to what response you seek.

Putting the book into the cloak is honestly what I think is a good decision, if that's wrong, you may gloat after the fact as much as it would please you in regards to assuming the intentions of others.
>>
>>37521342
>>37521229
I mean seriously, the metal codex was an animated picture book while this required an artifact from the Grand Library to open, was asked of us to be opened by a rather powerful spirit, and numbed us when we touched it, you can't really compare the two.

maybe of our enchanted objects radiate power. The Prism for example.

>>37521377
We don't need to ask the fucking thing permission to do with our shit as we please, it isn't our fucking Master.
>>
>>37521342
The point is that he doesn't want the book hidden, he wants it opened. Manipulating the mansion itself to have that be easier doesn't seem all that far-fetched, is what I tried to communicate there.
>>
>>37521409
>maybe
many
>>
>>37521377
The Book is a "Thing" As defined by The Spirit itself. Therefore we own it and may do as we please with it.

If the Spirit has a problem with that it is up to him to approach us and explain why.
>>
>>37521421
If he can seriously manipulate the internal structure of the mansion on a whim then I don't want to live here
>>
>>37521448
In this we agree. But for me it's mostly because I hate cats.
>>
>>37521386
I agree that doing something with it up to including sticking it in the cloak is a pretty good idea. The issue I have is with how people seemed to just latched onto book ~= spirit and when our threats failed they all went ballistic. Its not necessarily the action but the thought behind it that makes me salty.
>>
>>37521446
If he does have a problem with it then it's gonna have to give us something to "purchase" ownership of it back. Cause if its our then it's going in the cloak. That is where our things go. Especially our important or magical things.
>>
I wonder if we can ask ricky what the book is, while he handles it.
>>
>>37521482
We went to ask the Spirit about the Book.

It flipped out at an off comment.

Thus we're treating The Book as a serious Threat.

At least that's how i took it. It threw a temper tantrum at a comment, I suspect it it more mad at the fact that we foiled it's trap for us.

You find yourself gritting your teeth, a headache starting to pound away at your temples. This is not the familiar, roiling anger that you've usually experienced. The sort that makes you wish to drive a knife into your friend's throat or disembowel the Shah. It is a cold anger, festering there at the back of your mind and filling your thoughts with plans for vengeance and reckoning.

You stalk through the entry hall and into the dining room, feet pounding heavily against the stairs as you climb to the second floor. You push open the door into the library to reveal it much as you left it, the book sitting on the table with the key still in the lock. You remove your cloak from your shoulders carefully, pressing forward and draping it across the desk at the center of the library. You wait but a moment before whipping it away, the mysterious tome and its key gone.

You drape the cloak over your shoulders once more and focus on the mental image of the book, forcing it through the mental connection you share with Ricky. You follow this immediately with an image of the book on fire, and then another of it torn to shreds, and a third of it ripped in half. You wait, but no response is forthcoming. Eventually you receive a crude image from Ricky that depicts him gnawing on the book with his beak, followed by another of him tossing the book over his shoulder, and a third of him shrugging.

The headache seems to be pounding ever more incessantly at your temples, white creeping in around the edges of your vision. You grab hold of the edge of the table and toss it aside. It smashes into the tile with a loud clatter, a lamp shattering on the floor. You pace the room once, twice, before stopping and raising your foot into the air. You bring it down heavily on one of the desk's legs, snapping it off cleanly.
(1/2)
>>
You pick up the make-shift club and begin wailing away at the desk, obscenities pouring from your lips without you really consciously realizing it. You feel something sting your face, a trickle of something wet pouring down your cheek as splinters fly off of your improvised weapon. When you've got nothing but a stub left you hurl it away from you, managing to knock a number of books from the shelves, before stalking angrily out of the room.

You brace yourself against the railing of the second story balcony, briefly considering setting the place alight. However, after working out your frustrations on your own furniture your anger is somewhat abated. You decide against setting anything on fire for now. Your face stings terribly, but not nearly so bad as the throbbing ache in your skull.

>Try to track down the cat and pick a fight. You'll be damned if you let it have the last laugh!
>Get a hold of yourself and clean up, tell you're friends it's all settled.

You know those places spirits bring us into when we deal with them directly?
Those are states of their mind, their internal little realm, to which the elders are anathema.
So it stands to reason, following that, human minds are not entirely immune to the presence of void creatures.

Corruption, perhaps unfortunately, isn't the same as Insanity.

As the stooges said, there's a difference between Mad and Insane.
