>1 Pass
>Failure

You attempt to channel the Force in time to push yourself away from Master Jorrak, however you cannot focus fast enough and your concentration is abruptly broken as the tip of your Master's training saber slams into your solar plexus. Your mind goes blank for a moment as your chest spasms and you struggle to get air into your lungs. Master Jorrak walks to the other end of the ring and waits for you to collect yourself and slowly stagger to your feet.

"You are good Xanth. Very good. But you are cocky. The moment things don't go as you expect you are helpless. You are powerful, savage and your intuition is possibly your greatest asset, but once you gain the upper hand you keep rolling with it come good or ill. Now. Again."

He takes up his stance and regards you cautiously.

>What do you do?

>Wait for him to act

>Rush him and try to catch him off guard by attempting a Force Roar

Let's actually take a page from the master's book and not Go HAM.
>>
>>37559727
>>>Wait for him to act
He literally just called us out for being cocky. Now is our time to learn, lest we be defeated by a stronger foe.
>>
>>37559727
>>Rush him and try to catch him off guard by attempting a Force Roar
I'm considering cooking up a Xanth beefcake for my next project. But I need Info. Does Xanth sport scars on his body? If so, how many, where, and am do you want me to draw him with his hair and beard fully grown into the wild look as we discussed last thread?

And 4chan is still slow from being depressed that it's daddy left.
>>
>>37559727
>>Wait for him to act

We can use our force charge to block/counter/dodge faster as well. Not just rush headfist into a powerful enemy.

>>
>>37559727

>>
Hey guys lets wait, and than roar when he rushes us?
>>
>>37559900

Yes, he has a lot of scars on his back as he would be whipped as punishment for not doing enough work, getting into fights, ect. He has a few others on his chest, one slashing through his right collarbone, one running down the middle of his chest and another on his left flank, all from slave fights. I like the idea of the wild look.
>>
>>37559900
Probably up his arms. I'm not sure how he was mining but generally singing a pickaxe or using a jackhammer throws up a lot of little chunks. If he was a slave he probably had little protection and got scratched up good along his arms and hands.
>>
>>37559997
Seconding this. Stand our ground and then roar right as he closes the distance.
>>
>>37559900
He probably has some scars on his arms and back. Draw the beard. Beards are sexy.

>>

he was a slave, getting built like a rock was for those more fortunate.

Instead of acting you circle slowly and start trying to get a read on Master Jorrak, waiting carefully for him to make the first move. While you do this you focus and begin collecting power for a counter attack with the Force.

"I thought you said my style was best suited to aggression. That I need to keep attacking and moving?"

Master Jorrak smiles and nods, the scar that runs across his lips being pulled taut.

"There is a difference between being aggressive and smacking your head against a wall. Predators are aggressive, but so too are they cunning. The tactics you have used against me so far and in your training will serve you excellently against someone of equal skill to you, and perhaps someone who is even more advanced than you. But I am not just 'more advanced' than you, I am as tested and proven warrior of the Empire and I specialize in staff-sabers which gives me another advantage over you. So, what do you do when you're outclassed? That is what you must learn from me as you perfect your skills. Oh, and always remember when you're fighting another force sensitive."

He breaks abruptly and beckons you toward him. Immediately you feel yourself being pulled toward Master Jorrak and you cannot control yourself.

"They can always make you come to them."

Master Jorrak lunged forward and stabs his training saber forward, aiming for your chest where your heart is located.

I'm thinking something like Bruce Lee's body type. Really chiseled and honed all over but still thin. Really low body fat percentage and lots of built up muscles in his shoulders, core, and arms from manual labour in the mines.

Plus sweet animal claw mark scars.
>>
>>37560307
I'd say maybe his pecs and shoulder muscles would be on the chiseled side of things, with the rest being toned.

Stabbing forward? That's an odd choice, all things considered. Go on the defensive, parry the tip aside, and keep the other saber ready to block a follow up sweep.

Seriously. Guy has what I've been picturing Xanth's physique as for some time. Really toned but kind of rugged. Doesn't look like a body many people would try to work out to have but really good for actual power.

The Sith styles are hilarious though because 90% end with "torture at will"
>>
>>37560476
Very similar to a swimmer's body, actually. Densely packed muscle, but highly defined from a lack of body fat and extensive hours spent honing it.
>>
>>37560307
He was a slave in the mines, right? Toned overall, chiseled arms/forearms, shoulders, and back (lats). Chest/abs/legs/etc should be leaner. Calloused hands and feet, from fighting and working all his life, and thicker wrists from overuse.
>>
>>37560492

Alternate between dual-blade Makashi and Juyo, for when we alternate between Riddick/Guts.
>>
>>37560447
>superfast psychic sword combat with blades that lock at every clashed angle, retract, cut in every direction and ignore armor
>pretending to know what it might look like
>>
>>37560404
The first picture wouldn't work because it relies on A. the person versions you to make the weirdest overhead swing on an opponent whose lightsaber isn't even on, and B. relies on that guy to not just continue the strike and at least bash you in the head with the bottom of his saber, if not slice you to pieces. The second one only works on a foe who isn't going to just charge you while you're trying to concentrate and who doesn't have any muscle or reaction time to hold the blade from his face. So the second might work on a much weaker opponent.

So after mastering dual blades, will we go for staff or single blade Masteries?

You duck low and try to ride the momentum of the Force Pull while thrusting your blades into Master Jorrak's stomach. With the grace of a well practiced warrior Master Jorrak spins and smacks you across the back of the head with his blade, which sends you stumbling, but you manage to stay on your feet.

"Not the worst choice you could have made, trying to turn a disadvantage into your advantage is a good line of thinking, but if your opponent is paying attention and you aren't careful you're a dead man."

You manage to get most of what your Master has said despite the ringing in your ears and after a moment the throbbing in your head has subsided.

"You've done well, but that last blow can't have felt too good. I've gotten a good feel for where your skill level is at and what it is we need to work on in future sparing matches. If you'd like we can call in now and you can go and lick your wounds, however we do have a bit more time on our hands if you want to continue."

In this circumstances that was the choice with the highest DC because it was the easiest to read. However it is also true that once Master Jorrak started taking Xanth seriously the DCs jumped up, as was said since Master Jorrak took the training wheels off most of the DCs are going to be 8 or higher. You have to understand you are fighting a veteran Sith. I won't tell you who he was before the Academy, because that's something you can find out in game, but he is not any kind of pushover and once your proved you were worth taking seriously he uped his game. This is a good thing however, because now that you're fighting a harder opponent you are gaining more experience from the training. This translates well into your skills.

As an anon in the last thread mentioned, he would probably scold us for being dumb enough to tell him even a hint of what happened. Killing is something that stays under wraps here and revealing we might have even been involved here means he now has to act or he has information he might have to share. Plus never trust anyone, especially your superiors when it comes to the Sith.

>>37560917
Hm, thought the bottom one would have been. I suppose it makes sense though. I originally said we should use Force Charge to up our reaction time/speed while ducking to get an edge. I feel like people forget we specifically upgraded it so it enhanced our agility/reactions.

Random question, do we plan on having a mask or going open faced when we're a Sith proper?

Talking to him about Loric would be a rookie sith mistake. It is stupid to put so much trust into someone in a sith academy and the less that ties us to Loric's death the better
>>
>>37561059
Masks are relatively useless in a setting where beam weapons are used instead of physical ones. The point of a helm is to protect against wounds to the head, in a setting where a single blow can be fatal a mask/helm just creates blind spots.

>>

masks can be helpful and appropriate in some environments, or if we want to go for intimidation or mystique, and they can also have utility, like vision modes and magnification, but our cyber eye will do those
>>
>>37561168
Just lagging. Besides, vote time was over by the time it got through so it is irrelevant
>>
>>37561152
Sith use masks all the time. Most of them are enhanced with Sith Alchemy and very fucking useful.
>>
>>37561152
It never seemed to stop any of the countless great Sith Lords that wore them.

Though I think we should only get one if it has some meaning to us.

Revan only had his because it was the mask of the defeated Manadalore so it represented his victory.

- - - - - - - -

You breathe a heavy sigh. After that last smack to the back of the head and your fight with Loric earlier you start to feel exhaustion catching up with you.

"I think I'm ready to call it. I'm bushed. But, before I go I'm a bit curious, how did you end up getting that scar Master Jorrak?"

He smiles wide and you fear his face might tear in two as a result.

"It's a reminder of one of my greatest failures as a Darth. I had managed to find myself blade to blade with a member of the Jedi Council. A woman known as Master Rash'an. We fought, long and hard and it ended with our blades clashed together in a test of strength. I lost and the edge of her saber did this to my face. I passed out from the pain, and when I woke up she was gone."

Despite the grim nature of his words you sense excitement in his voice, a spark of adrenaline and a need for more.

"That was the most intense fight I've ever had. You don't really feel alive until you know any second might be your last."

You nod as your drink in Master Jorrak's story. You had not known he had once been a Darth, though it explains much concerning his skill in combat and why even at your best you only grazed him.

"Anything else?"

"You were a Darth? Do you mind if I ask what your title was?"

Master Jorrak smiles a bit sadly.

"I was once Darth Sever. An assassin of prestige and great power. But that was a long time ago."

You decide not to press the issue as it isn't really your place to do so.

"Do you know if that woman, Master Rash'an is still alive? Why did she spare you?"

Your Master's eyes spark once more, but the fire is cold and bitter.

"Oh, she's alive and likely more powerful than ever. Why she spared me I don't know. Perhaps she pitied me, having passed out after such a battle, or perhaps she merely knew she didn't have the time to finish me off. Regardless I can't say I'm not grateful. I may no longer be the man I once was, but I have the ability to create Sith that will take the Empire by storm. I have a sense for potential Xanth, and I see it burn within you like a star. That is my penance for my failure."

You consider what Master Jorrak has said to you and nod.

"One last thing. Any criticisms for me? What should I focus on?"

Master Jorrak shakes his head and chuckles.

"Truth be told, you're above what I expect from the other apprentices by far and large. I doubt even Rodrik could have struck me twice. Maybe it was luck, but I know talent when I see it. The one thing I will say, you need to consider your actions more carefully. You make rash and bold decision. Here, against me that is a great way to learn, but once you leave that no longer becomes an option, because it can mean your life. Consider that."

You nod and bow before turning to take your leave.

"Wait."

You stop in your tracks and turn to look at Master Jorrak.

"You were late today and two of Master Vessa's apprentices were missing. I will not be the only one who has noticed this. I do not know how or if you have anything to do with that. If you did, do not speak a word of it. To me, or to anyone. I will be questioned about it before the day is over, and Master Korr will know if I am lying. I am not at liberty to give you any information on the matter under then that but know this. Master Vessa will paint you as the prime suspect, as she already has a grudge against you, and if she finds enough evidence you may not be found guilty by the Academy, but it will be enough to earn you a powerful enemy in the boy's mother. Now, say nothing and leave. Tomorrow you will have your first class on Sith philosiphy at the same time as always. Now then, I'll need to fetch Rodrik, I need somebody to work up all this pent up energy on."

You do as you are commanded and leave without a word. Your heart is beating at a rapid pace as you leave the room. For now you are free to do as you wish.

You decide first and foremost to take a shower, you find the warm water helps you think and calms you. You make your way over to the men's showers and lose yourself in the stall for a bit considering what might come to pass. Your mind keeps returning to what Jorrak said about Loric's mother. Who was Loric in the first place? You thought your biggest thread would be Rodrik, but Loric was... something else. You consider that whatever evidence might exist to pin you to the disappearance is at best circumstantial and so long as the bodies remain undiscovered there is no real chance of you being discovered. That being said you doubt that will stop Master Vessa from making a point of blaming you.

You finish your shower and dress deciding to try and find the girls and possibly discuss what you've discovered. You find them chatting in the cafeteria together and they both turn to you after you've gotten your food.

"Wow, you look like hell. How'd your training with Jorrak go?"

Cael'la asks with a small smirk.

I think we used up all our luck passing that DC 9 and 10 last thread, anon. Vessa's gonna tell Loric's mother and we're gonna be targeted by some super assassin boba fett expy. On the bright side those type of guys tend to wear masks and we can just use theirs for when we become Darth Xanth.

"I learned a lot about him, and he's incredibly powerful. I managed to hit him twice, which even he didn't expect. Then he got serious and beat my ass and he's scary when he takes you seriously."

You say, a bit of admiration in you voice as you talk about your Master.

"I'm not surprised, if what I've heard was correct all of the Masters were great Sith who were deemed worthy of teaching the next generation."

Cael'la responds, Nivah nodding happily.

"Yea, she was telling me about it while we were waiting for you. Apparently Master Korr used to be really scary."

She say.

"Used to be?"

Cael'la asks playfully and they both giggle.

"I don't doubt it, when he looks into your eyes it's like staring down a nexu."

You say and Cael'la and Nivah both nod their heads in firm agreement. You smile a bit as you notice how much more friendly they've become toward one another and mischief glimmers in your eye as you speak.

"You two seem to be getting along quite nicely."

The inflection in your voice immediately darkens the hue in Cael'la's face and Nivah looks confused for a moment before your implication strikes her and she turns equally red. They both pout a bit and you can't help but let out a hearty chuckle.

"Seriously though, it's good to see you two are acting like friends."

The two look at each other then back to you then start whispering. They then begin giggling again and you aren't sure how you feel about it. Your mind wanders back to what Master Jorrak said and you regard them both for a moment before speaking again.

"Hey, when we're done eating do you two mind if we go for a walk. I'd like to clear my head."

Nivah merely agrees but Cael'la seems to catch a hidden meaning,

"Do you want to discuss something?"

She asks casually, but gives you a knowing look.

>What do you say?

>Say nothing but nod.
>Say nothing but shake your head.
>No, just want to go for a walk.
>Yes, some advice Master Jorrak gave me that you guys might find useful.

"Yes, some advice Master Jorrak gave me that you guys might find useful."

Cael'la nods while Nivah seems a bit oblivious to the hidden meaning of your words, though you suppose that's a good thing. If someone in the know about what's happened can't discern what you mean it's likely the other apprentices won't have taken anything important away from what you said. You chatter idly as you finish your food and the three of you make your way out into the halls. You manage to slip into an unused classroom and walk to the far end of the room to make sure nobody can overhear you.

"Why did we stop in here?"

Nivah asks.

"Master Jorrak, he's suspicious of me having to do something with Loric and Tharon's disappearances, which means you two might also be under suspicion."

The two girls turn serious as you continue.

"He said that if I was involved that I need to keep my mouth shut, and I'm sharing that information with you two now before people start asking. He said that Master Vessa might go out of her way to pin it on me, and by extension possibly you two. I didn't get much else because he said he couldn't share anything but he mentioned his mother, and when he did I could tell even he was worried. We need to be careful."

Cael'la nods and is the first to speak.

"I suspected most of that already, but the news about his mother is new. He played the weakling card so well I never thought to look into who he might be. I'm starting to wonder if confronting him this early in the game might have had unforeseen consequences that we couldn't have guessed."

You nod and let out a small sigh.

"Anything else?"

She asks.

>What do you say?

>Well while we're along might I just say you two are looking beautiful today
>No, we should get back to the cafeteria before anyone notices we're gone

It is factored along with the complexity of our attempted maneuver into setting the DC.
>>
>>37563484
>>37563523

I'll expand on this a bit since I really just said 'Nah'.
Loric was kind of an open ended plot line, meaning if I could work with him I could, but I proceeded expecting him to die at the Academy.
That being said I knew regardless of what happened with him it would have long term effects, some of which you will be experiencing quite soon.
I certainly didn't expect him to get offed so early, and he was originally going to be a kind of 'proving how far you've come' kind of thing near the end of your apprenticeship. He would have also revealed most of the relevant information you need to know about him as an 'hour of glory' kind of thing. Now however you have a whole new set of arguably more dangerous obstacles.
And for those of you wondering, the Masters all know who he was and who he was connected to.

>>37563537
It's basically compared to the numbers of your opponent in most situations, the higher the difference the easier or harder the DC. Most of the people you've been fighting are below or around your skill level so they've been on the easier side with a fair chance of failure. Once you get so powerful there will be people who are below DC 5 for you to deal with. The only people where the numbers have been stacked against you were Jorrak and Loric, and for some reason you guys just rolled suuuuuper well against both of them.

>>
>>37563832
I think it was more exasperation at how Loric and that fight was fucking hard, and we barely lucked through it, and now much more nasty things are coming our way and we're still small game.
>>
>>37563946
well, we made a bad decission. If you'd gone and stabbed the son of your home town's chief of police or other big-wig, I'm sure you'd be dealing with major consequences as well. Doesn't matter if he deserved it or not, you've got to deal with the consequences. I applaud Brine for not creating a quest that's just mental masturbation and power fantasy.
