Stage 57: Mind the age gap.

You've singlehandedly shut up the entirety of your household, from hyperactive masochistic Fire dragonette to pregnant wealthy Wood Dragonette, and everyone and everything between. Moreover, you have done so with the blatant declaration that you will in fact be implanting your plan to hook up humans and youkai-born spirit children – specifically a band of Yakuza with nogitsune-born spirit children. To top it off, you have just offered a lolicon Yakuza boss a date with the representative of said nogitsune-child clan, who just so happens to look about six. Maybe eight. On a good day.

There is plenty of precedent for it of course, though it is generally kept on the down low. Tengu training groups of samurai; youkai teaching ninja clans; and of course the imperial Family itself is directly descended of Dragon Kami. But the real fact of the matter is that you need not only resources, but manpower, and humans are no match for spirit-children without training like the Kaga have....unless you ally them with spirit-children.

It isn't just a matter of money either. Japan is doing well for the moment, which won't last for too much longer if you do what Amaterasu-Omikami wants you to do, so you have plenty of wealth. The fortunes of Japan are the fortunes of the kami. No, you need to counter Oba-san's martial forces with your own, and work on getting the human population of Japan safer than they are now. That takes letting the human population know what is coming down the road, and the only way you can do that is by making sure you can play with the human resources – and only humans can do that. With incentive to assist them and some protection form your enemies, Hyun Chisato is going to help you save lives.

Even if you have to drive her crazier to manage it.

“I think this is a fucking terrible damn idea, Ryukusa-sama,” puts forth Shoko. With that, the floodgates open.

“Aniki, she's right. Humans and spirit-children move in different worlds, it's dangerous.” Yui-niji-chan gets a smile from you, rather than a rebuke; you told her she could voice her opinions and you meant it. “They can't even really see most of us for what we are.”

Akari-niji-chan surprises you by agreeing with Yui-chan. “She's right aniki. Even knowign you weren't ordinary, Chisato-san isn't seeing the real world. That's not a hurdle that can be overcome easily without sorcery, and our sorceress is not well.”

Yuuhi-chan is watching the discussion, and merely shrugs at you, while Kiki-hime looks concerned, but also abstains.

“Aka-chan, are you certain this is the best way to achieve your goals? Interfering with human affairs is forbidden for good reasons.” Your sister looks very concerned, which doesn't really surprise you. Then again, she works as a seer for the human community, which is why you think this can work.

You look at Kiku-chan, who has so far said nothing. She looks back seriously, her sleeve over her mouth, her golden eyes resting on you, her Fire Eyes wide open.

[] “It doesn't require direct interference – it's supposed to be subtle.”
[] “It's more about protection of the humans from Clan Ryo.”
[] “We can't manage everything on our own – this concerns the entire country, not just this city.”
[] I'm relying on you, Kiku-chan, to guide me.”
[] “You're right, we can't do this without Er Yin....so I'm going to get that taken care of first.”

A decent point. Though, we don't exactly know how that came about in detail, do we?
>>
>>37568729

Well, everyone in the room but Chisato is the result of an human screwing an actual spirit. I think we can imagine the details pretty well.

Also, Kiki's dad has one hell of an assistant, even if he maybe doesn't realize it.
>>
[X] “We can't manage everything on our own – this concerns the entire country, not just this city.”
[X] I'm relying on you, Kiku-chan, to guide me.”
[x] “It doesn't require direct interference – it's supposed to be subtle.”
[x] “It's more about protection of the humans from Clan Ryo.”

You look at the others – including the only two who haven't given their views on the subject: namely the daughter of Fuchi Kamuy's sister (and demigoddess) Inau-san, and the actual subject of the conversation, Chisato herself. “It's not about having people fight the battle for us, or involving myself in the Yakuza. Its about taking care of humanity, not just in this city but across the country. We can't do that, the nine of us. We need help because this isn't just about Tokyo. This is about Japan. If I do as I've been told I'm not going to make a mess out of one place, but all of Japan, and I need people who can help mitigate that, not just here, but across Japan.”

Kiku-chan lowers her eyes for a moment, and then looks up at you, lowering her sleeve. “I'm relying on Kiku-chan's guidance to avoid any missteps that would anger the kami and the kamuy, but face it: if we want to avoid a total disaster, we need more help than humans or spirit-children can provide. We need to move in two worlds and we need help doing it.” You cross your arms and lash your tail once, slowly, ominously. “I don't need an army or warriors. I have my family, and there is myself at it's head. What we do need is people who can get things done without bringing a horde of killers down on our heads.”

You turn to Chisato. “I need you and your bosses help, Chi-chan, and you're going to need my help to get what I need done. Peta's going to give you that help....but you need to know what's really happening.”
>>
>>37568880
Chi-chan leans back in the sofa and crosses her legs, her arms along the back of the sofa. “Aoi-chan, you're talking some crazy-ass shit, and I ain't gonna pretend to understand anything you just said. But I owe you everything, so you just let me know what you want, and I'll make sure it gets the shit done out of it!”

Yui leans over and whispers something to Akari, who only smiles slightly as she takes another bite of a pork bun, and Yui yelps into the silence, earning her a number of looks as she blushes and rubs her backside.

Kiku-chan sighs, looking at your one-time sukeban, and then looks to you. “I can make her see things truly, aniki, but it will only work for her and it will be permanent. It's not the same thing as Gin-Gin can do, but I can do it. It will take about an hour.” She turns to Chisato, who looks back with a friendly sort of leer. Kiku-chan blinks and then looks at you.

[] Hey now, hands off Chi-chan, she's mine!

[X] I wouldn't try it, she's a little hotter than she looks, Chi-chan.
[X] Sorry Chi-chan she's spoken for.

“While she's legal loli, Chi-chan, she's also spoken for, sorry. Besides she and her sukeban owe me a date.” Kiku-chan's hair explodes into firey waves, and she glares at you with those golden eyes of hers. You know that Chisato cannot see the actual reality of it, but you smile sweetly at Kiku-chan anyways.

Yuuhi-chan looks confused and glances at Shoko. “Sukeban?”

“It's what the others mean by aniki, except a girl,” Shoko explains, not entirely quietly.

“....but if they've seen her-nagghhmph!” Shoko's gloved hand covers most of Yuuhi-chan's face and the Water oni-child bows over her hand to you, her face an incredibly interesting color of dark olive. Yuuhi-chan blinks a few times but doesn't bother trying to speak.

“Awww....wait, legal loli? How old is she, Aoi-chan.” Chisato's confusion is understandable of course., but Kiku-chan interrupts you.

“I am two-hundred-and-eighty-five years old, and my name is Matagama Kiku, if you don't mind!” You smile at the petulance in Kiku-chan's voice. Perhaps Chisato is just what she needs to keep her mind off of things. “You – come with me! Right now.” Startled into obedience Hyun Chisato leaps off of the sofa and looks at you with surprise.

You leans over and whisper softly to the Yakuza boss, “I really wouldn't try anything, she's a whole lot hotter than you're prepared for.” Chisato blinks and follows, almost meekly, but you can see the curiosity in her eyes. As they enter your bedroom – where your rebuilt shrine is – you hear Chisato starting to ask a question and the high pitched demand for silence that cuts her off.

Definitely good for them both.

The door shuts and silence reigns once more in the living room. Your sister has a new fan with which she is colling herself off, and Inau-san is looking at you rather speculatively. Shoko finally lets go of Yuuhi-chan's face, and the cute nogitsune-born looks up at her large friend from where she's sitting. “-naked why don't they know she's a woman too?”

Shoko sighs the sigh of long suffering, and Yui giggles madly while your sister turns away, her power over her blood preventing a blush. Kiki-hime is not so lucky, on the other hand, and is quite the shade of red. “You know, I've been asking myself that question for almost ten years now, Yuuhi-chan, so if you ever get an answer, please let me know too.”

“Because only a woman can portray the strength and courage that a man has, Ryukusa-sama.” You turn to Inau-san, and blink. “You are too otokoyaku; you exemplify the man that women dream of too well.” Well, that explains Inau-san's manner of dress; she's a fan of Takarazuka Theater. Akari turns her head, and looks at the ground, stifling her giggles, which you'd rather her not do, but you can understand why she would in this particular instance. Almost everyone else looks confused, except Kiki-hime herself, who looks like a light bulb has turned on over her head.

“Sorry, not into the androgyny myself, though I'll consider it a compliment.” Inau-san smiles, pleased that you do. “Though that explains why I wasn't allowed on theater trips in school. Now please, everyone finish dinner. Kiki-hime and I need to talk for a little while. Akari-niji-chan, Yuuhi-chan, keep an eye on the prisoners by turns. Yui-niji-chan, please watch over Er Yin-sensei. Jinyuu-onee-sama....please consider everything you know of the Mill Pond Demon for me. Shoko-san, please rest some. I know you're not fully healed, and I thank you for your efforts on my behalf.” You bow to her, and she looks surprised that you would do so.

[X] Ask Kiki-hime where she would like to go for lunch.
[+] Suggest the rooftop, the view is amazing.

Kiki-hime smiles as you slip away from the others, who go back to eating in fits and starts, with Yui- and Akari-niji-chan checking on their respective rooms before rejoining the others. You sigh, and tuck your hands behind your back, half bowing to your wife. “I am sorry it's been so troublesome today, Kiki-hime.”

She shakes her head. “If it is Ryukusa-chan, it can't be helped.” she's smiling as she says it though.

You smile wryly and steps closer. “You said you had a meal planned for us....where would you like to eat? Our choices are somewhat limited, but there is the porch, the garden down below....but I prefer the rooftop.”

She looks confused, of course, but then who wouldn't be. “The rooftop?”

“You would have to see it to understand, Kiki-hime.”

Turning, she picks up a large covered dish, and then turns back to you. “Well, if it isn't too far, that should be fine.”

[] “If you won't argue with me, then it's not too far at all.”
[] “I'd have to carry you, princess.”
[] For this, you'll carry her anyways.

[X] She said it herself, it's not too far, it should be fine, right?

You smile, and bow, guiding her towards the front door; she gives you a half curtsy in return and you follow her towards the door. It isn't until you notice Akari's laughing eyes and her slight smile that you realize that Inau-san was probably right, you do act like a guy more often than you should, even when you mean it as a joke. No one else took any special notice of it, but then, they're used to it by now, even after only a few days in some cases.

You open the door with your tail, informing everyone you'll both be back shortly, and step into the mid-day sun.

Kami, it feels like it's been weeks.

Still, you walk her out, and towards the staircases towards the middle of the building rather than the end. “The city looks a lot different from here than it does from other buildings. Usually you're looking at it through glass, or from what should be a lower building otherwise.” You tuck your hands behind your back in an effort to reassure her that you won't be taking the pot or holding onto anything. “Still, there's really only one way to get to the rooftop. The landlord's maintenance....uh, people don't usually need the stairs. Or ladders, or anything else of that sort.”

Now, you know Kiki-hime isn't particularly stupid. You've seen her prove it, and she's alert enough despite her nearly human upbringing. But it must surely be the most deeply naive thinking that prompts her to ask you:

“Then how does one reach the rooftop, Ryu-chan?”
>>
>>37570349
You look at her earnestly, and tilt your head, studying her position for a moment. “Well, if you have a nice tight grip on the dish, I will endeavor to show you, princess.” You stretch your arms out slowly and then reach down and don't quite touch your toes, your tail swirling above your head. Sufficiently distracted by her curiosity, she isn't expecting you to stand up, take three quick steps behind her, tug her off balance with your tail, dart between her legs while you lock your arms about her calves (positioning your palms open and past each other to place them nearly back to back, protecting them from accidental touches), and then support her back with your tail as you make a leap for the wall nearby.

She gives a shriek as you place both feet against the wall, and push up and out, twisting yourself so that you are facing the building once more. It only takes one more leap to bounce off a railing to land upon the top of the wall, and from there it is a single, straight shot to the rooftop....but you don't make the straight shot. Instead, you leap up and over, using the winds and your own strength to leap much higher than necessary.

The view is beautiful, even in the middle of the day. The glass and metal of Tokyo's Shinjuku district where it borders your home in Shibuya overlooks the colorful walls and buildings of Harajuku trapped between them, with a view of the tree-line of Marunouchi as well....you can feel her tension ease as she sees the city from a position only a privileged few can do so.

You land safely and carefully, kneeling quickly to allow her to stand on her own. Before you rise you use your tail to whip a blanket out of ~Nowhere~ and settle it upon the slanted rooftop, supplementing it with two cushions and small table. Before she sets the pot down, you kick the table into the air and step on the back of one shoe, slipping your foot free. You use your toe-talons to slice one side of the tiny stool's legs half off, before stepping back into your shoe and following the falling table with a sort of kick, stepping lightly on the edge of the table to land it perfectly – and now level.

Kiku-chan is staring at you like you've gone mad, or she's utterly aghast at your skills. Which is a little odd, but you shrug mildly.

Settling down on a cushion, you smile up at her, using your tail to gently take the pot from her hands. She shakes her head and sets it down instead, not allowing you to do so, but you can't help but tease gently. “I did promise not to use my hands if I could help it, Kiki-hime.”

As she sits, she looks at you with a strange expression. “I understood what you said, and I've seen some things you can do, but it is much different when you do things no one but you can do.” Kiki slowly opens the pot and reveals several sections with a variety of Chinese style foods, along with two cups of still hot tea covered by saucers. She pulls a single set of chopsticks out of ~Nowhere~ and sets them down on the stool-turned-table. “You do things that amaze me, and frighten me sometimes, but I am never afraid of you, despite that.”

You thank the kamuy that you didn't spill the tea as you reply. “That is actually kind of standard for most Water dragonettes, Kiki-hime. And I don't mean to frighten you. You have been very isolated from the World-As-It-Is and that just makes things seem more frightening to you than they truly are. Not always, but sometimes.” As you watch her while he stirs the rice and uncovers the tea, you notice Rie – as cat – standing some distance away on the rooftop.

She finishes and lets the food rest for a moment, so that she can take in the view. “It really is beautiful, Ryu-chan. Thank you for showing me this.”

“I could not have asked for a more beautiful view, after all that has happened. I am thankful for it, more than anything else today.”

She smiles, and shakes her head. “Only today, Ryu-chan? I imagine you have....” Her voice falters as she turns to see you looking at her. Her cheeks darken quickly, and she drops her eyes quickly. “....oh.”

[X] Take the chance and time you have been given to enjoy this moment of peace together.

You shift your legs out from under you, discarding a seiza position for a more casual legs-curled-beside-you position, which just happens to bring you closer to the sakura-scented girl you've made your own. She does the same, and you slide your tail along her waist and up her back, while her tail slides beneath yours to wrap gently about your hips. “Today is enough for now, princess. I will pray for others tonight, other days and nights to be spent with you, with my niji-chan, my spiritualists, but this day, now is enough.” You run your horn along her hair carefully, and she leans into you more, your shoulders touching. “Why, what did you imagine?”

“I thought you would have brought other girls up here to see it, but then I remembered, and....” You laugh softly at her blush.

“No, no one else. This is another first for us both, really. We can pray for many other firsts, I think.”

She laughs and leans into you a bit more, and then asks thoughtfully, still smiling. “When you pray, whom do you pray to, Ryu-chan?” It's not a serious question, a meaningful question, but you speak before you can help yourself, which is patently impossible outside of Kami Stuff.

“Inari.”

She laughs softly. “The rice goddess? Really, Ryu-chan, I would have thought someone like Ryujin, or your own mikoto, or the knowledge kami....” You remain relaxed, calm, and there is no other urge, nothing to follow that senseless, knee-jerk response. “But really, the mistress of the white kitsune?”
>>
>>37571577
You turn to her and look her in the eyes, and she turns, feeling your shift in position. Something in your expression makes her smile fade – not the fade into unhappiness or trepidation that most fading smiles become, but the fade of a smile into thought and understanding. “Kiki-hime, I think there are many white things that belong to Inari and serve her, not just kitsune. I think there are nekomata, and nogitsune, and dragons that all serve her. There are many goddesses who are part of Inari, and each one of them has granted me the wish I needed most, when I needed it most, and protected those whom I love even at great cost.”

Kiki lowers her eyes and starts to speak but you catch her chin on the tip of your claws, the gloves protecting her from your talons and your talons protecting you from pain. Lifting her head to look into your eyes again, you speak very softly. “Inari means as much to me as every member of my family, kasan, and because of her blessings we are together now.”

Her eyes shimmer and she smiles, and you kiss her, slowly and carefully. The kiss lasts forever, and not long enough. When you break the kiss, she is breathless, and you're not much better off.

….and you're also in a Barrier.
>>
>>37571602
Awwww maaaan.
>>
>>37571602
>….and you're also in a Barrier.
....fuck.
>>
>>37571602
You smile wryly to your lover and she blinks, realizing something is wrong almost as quickly as you do. “I hope you don't mind a little exhibitionism.” That confuses her, until she turns away from the city to look up towards the top of the roof. You take a deep breath and sit up, turning to Rie. Who is standing right at the edge of your blanket, not two feet from you.

Before you can say anything Rie-sama, in her utterly white schoolgirl's uniform, belly bared with skin milk pale and eyes of bright blue, speaks first. “Ryukusa-san, Kiki-san, I have a gift for you.” She has her hands behind her back and her tails are waving slowly in the air.

A gift.

From a God's Eye Nekomata.

Who wants to ~help~ you.

[X] Cat. Cat cat cat cat cat. Cat.

You blink slowly, sitting up straight. “Rie-sama, you do use both great honor,” which is really as good a start as you can get. Kiki-hime is kneeling as well, her tail tightly twining with yours as she lowers her eyes respectfully for the nekomata. Not just playing the dutiful wife, not pretending, but actually being that for you now. “But it is very extravagant for you to do this. You have helped us so much already. You healed me, and my mikoto. You assisted me with my injured loved one. How could I accept anything more....” Biting your lip, you look at the serious nekomata, and half close your glowing eyes. “We have not even brought any favors for using your rooftop....though we do have a fine meal we would be glad if you chose to share with us.”

She blinks one eye at you. It isn't a wink – it's literally a one-eyed blink, the other closing just a little, the blink of a cat that doesn't want to take its eyes off of you. “I said it was a gift, not assistance.” She sniffs. “Besides, you gave me an extra helping this morning.” Technically she's right, though you thought you were trying to make up for the previous morning.

You relax a little, knowing that it probably is safer to accept a present from the strange youkai – and you forcible remind yourself it is a youkai, not a youkai-child or spirit-child, but an actual spirit itself. “Then, we cannot possibly refuse, Rie-sama.” You hesitate and then look up at the cat calmly, phrasing your words carefully. “Though, I'm actually more worried that it's a murder-present now, really.”

That actually makes the cat smile faintly – the first time she's ever smiled, while Kiki-hime seems to have gone a little pale. She's actually really cute when she smiles. “No, Ryukusa-san, it's not murder presents. Maybe later.” She pulls her hands from behind her back and presents you with a white handkerchief. Your red eyes sees the coils of dangerous gold luminescence circling it, actually moving around and through the handkerchief. “This is for your wife.”

[] You can refuse once more without being rude, but only once more.
[] “I can see that it is a powerful gift....”
[] “May I ask what we have done to deserve such a gift?”
[] It reminds you of the other kind of cat youkai – a bakeneko, blood drinking, shape-shifting, cursing cats.
[] “It is very lovely, Rie-sama, but still undeserved....”

[X] “I can see that it is a powerful gift....”
[X] “May I ask what we have done to deserve such a gift?”
[+] Water Eyes.

You can see that Rie-sama is actually offering you a gift – it is not a trap or a thing that is dangerous to you specifically, though it is incredibly dangerous in and of itself. Rie is definitely currying favor with your wife, but you cannot see her exact reasoning for doing so, save that she may have understood your veiled Inari reference. So, the gift is being given in sincerity and as a gift.

“I can see that it is a most powerful gift, one which could not have been easily come by....” Kiki-hime glances sidelong at you in alarm, perfectly aware of your inability to overstate matters of great import. Unfortunately Water Eyes tells you right away that she's not going to tell you anything about how she came to own it. “May I ask what we have done to deserve such a gift, Rie-sama?”

“No.”

Well, that's alarming.

Rie-sama continues. “But it is for your wife. This object contains the bakeneko that cursed her sister.” She smiles brilliantly, showing cats teeth in a human mouth. “Release it and it will be forced to serve you one time, and then be sent away from you to never trouble you or your family again, Ryuu Kiki.”

…..holy crap.

Hmmm, what other services could we ask her for though?
>>
>>37572587
Thank you for running, XS. May I ask where I could find some factual information about Japanese and Chinese legends, spiritual beliefs, and the like?

Wikipedia isn't.
>>
>>37572722
>factual
>legends, spiritual beliefs
???
>>
>>37572715
Well, she has curses, so DEFNITELY has powers of the Void. Shapeshifter means a variety of things.

It more depends on who the bakeneko is, because we can CLEARLY see the difference between Ryukuza and her sister Jinyuu, despite them both being Dragonettes, because depending on who they are, they'll have different skills, talents, and abilities above and beyond their species' basic ones.

Heck, they might even lack a few of them.
>>
>>37572715

Well, it depends of what she can do. It's possible she could help with the Kappa in some way. Or curse the devil kid. Or help in many other ways.

Heck, maybe it's possible to trade her service to this priestess we met in Yomi in exchange of Er Yin's full recovery.

Maybe Kiku doesn't even want to break the curse.
>>
>>37572745
I remember a shrine's site being mentioned quite a few threads ago mentioning the spiritual treasures of Japan, with Wikipedia being wrong. I was curious if anyone had suggestions along those lines and beyond, because my google-fu has failed me.
>>
>>37572807
>Maybe Kiku doesn't even want to break the curse
I'd say that's decently likely, even. And yeah, helping with Er Yin seems the logical use, narratively, even if we don't know whether she actually is capable of doing so or not.
>>
>>37572807
Or maybe the option of breaking the curse would be a possible thing and would be a source of personal growth for her.

Or a possible way to give Er Yin control of the curse, so she can be either or as Er Yin desires...
>>
>>37572819
Ah, I see. Well I don't know shit so gotta hope for XS to the rescue!
>>
>>37572860
I could probably search through the ends of the last 10-20 threads for the info on a few books, but I don't have the time, unfortunately.
>>
>>37572707
Basically, Kiku-chan is going to give Chisato a low-powered version of Fire eyes - enabling her to see the true nature of things without seeing all the way to the depths of the soul (which Chisato wouldn't be able to see in any case). She'll see exactly what Ryukusa and the other Dragonettes see (which is not the same as what Yui or Yuuhi or Inau-san sees).

>>37572722
The Wikipedia articles specifically relatign to Shinto and Koshinto are fairly accurate nowadays, but most of my information comes from discussion with the Buudhist priests when they come to visit once a year, various books on Chinese mythology and religion, and a number of Taoist authors.

I'll see if I can put together a good bibliography sometime - I don't recall names of books or authors off the top of my head very well.

>>37572715
Bakeneko are a form of youkai that are somewhat different than nekomata. They are very family oriented creatures, often given to wearing napkins or hankerchiefs on their heads and dancing wildly, and cursing entire family lines (either their owners or those who harmed their owners, the situation often being circumstantial). Often they become bakeneko after drinking human blood, or licking lamps. Some can speak in human languages..
>>
>>37572917

Thanks!

>which is not the same as what Yui or Yuuhi or Inau-san sees

Very intriguing...
>>
>>37572960
Yeah, that does beg the question as to what Yui, Yuuhi, and Inau see.
>>
>>37572960
You've seen hints that Yui doesn't see things the way others do at times. I'm merely confirming it.
>>
>>37573014
Maybe we should ask her about it some time.
>>
>>37572917

I have one more question: what would have Ryukuza seen if she had met Chisato while under the Mirror Curse thing?
>>
>>37573014

I thought she just didn't process informations like an human or a dragonnette. Though it does make sense that her perception would also be different.
>>
>>37573053
A living corpse. Not a zombie, but a dead body, that was alive.

You walk into the room, and there is a dead body. It is standing, lookign at you, but the body is devoid of the spark of life, the anima that gives it volition. It breaths, and its blood flows, but there is nothign human, no spark of life, no ~soul~ within the flesh that confronts you. Hollowed eyes devoid of reflection gaze at you, their dull cast seeing nothing more than the emptiness of Yomi around you.
