RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/SeV4Mmqv

You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

It had been a few days since that huge operation in Kasna to destroy that nation's supply of Nimbus cruise missiles. However, even though the mission was a success, it didn't end the conflict between Kasna and Biala. Not even close. With their immediate concern handled, the major nations dusted off their hands and returned home, content to let the two nations continue to bleed each other dry. It wasn't their problem, after all.

So guys, Flanker or Eagle, and which variants should we aim for?

Personally I would be happy with either, though I think I like the Flanker a bit more because muh Terminator, but an Eagle a fine too, though it would clash when we go to parties with our squadmates.

No, if anything, it was a desire to mess in the internal affairs of neighbors that led to it. Staying out of neighbors' business would have kept Belka from starting wars.
>>
>>37578851
It's a joke. Terminator's best for us.
>>
Hypothetically speaking, let's say Belka calls and Karla answers.

But how the hell do we break the news to her mom?

It's one thing to tell her that Karla secretly was a merc for the past few months and thrown into some pretty life threatening situations (i.e. Solo Wing Incident, Nimbus, etc.). However it's another thing to tell her that Karla's now fighting for Belka, under the government that her mother doesn't trust even after the Belkan War ended.

I'm voting for the Flanker over the eagle, especially since we don't particularly like the people who flew them. But I want to know how much a Super Flanker would cost.
>>
>>37579040
I don't think Karla hates Cipher, she was too young for that. Maybe a little disdain for making her country lose but she probably admires the hell out of his piloting ability.
>>
>>37579101
But still Dad flew a Flanker. We should add a small patch of orange and black tiger stripe onto the Valkyrie pattern, or a single tiger stripe feather within the pattern.

and her father flew a Flanker, that has to mean something to her

It kind of bothered you, actually. You couldn't help but feel that you left a job half finished. Not only were the two nations still fighting pointlessly, but all those refugees were still trapped in the DMZ, unable to return home.

You kind of know what it's like to be cut off from your home, and you wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Regardless, there wasn't much you could do about it now. You were just a simple mercenary that was part of a PMC.Not like you could fly off there on your own and end the war by yourself, right? That was just freaking silly.

Well, you might as well start figuring out what to do for the day. There currently weren't any active missions so you were kind of free to do what you wanted today.

Well, it's been a while since you've seen Jager. Perhaps it's time to go pester him for a bit! The first place you check is the training grounds, but you just see regular Artemis grunts out there. You check the on base tavern, but it was far too early for anybody to be hanging out in there. On a whim, you decide to check out the firing range, and sure enough, you see Jager and Tarin at the end practicing their marksmanship. Seems like Jager was coaching his subordinate on proper shooting technique, but from the looks of it, he was kind of wasting his time. She was practically demolishing the targets left and right. You're polite enough to wait for them to finish before approaching them.

"Hey there, Jager." You grin as you step in. "Busy as always, I see."

"Don't you have planes to fly?" He raises an eyebrow.

"Oh, come on, no need to be so grumpy!" You smile. "I just wanted to see how you were doing, that's all!"

"Hmph, well, you might not be busy, but I kind of am." Jager sighs. "Unless you want a lesson?"

"I'd love a lesson!" You say cheerfully. "Come on, show me!"

"A-all right." Jager sighs, apparently not expecting this answer.

"What about me?" Tarin asks curiously.

"I... don't think you need any more instruction." Jager points to the target, with all of the shots hitting dead center.

"Okay, come on!" You grin.

"Right, right. I suppose they at least taught you the basics when you enlisted?"

"I know which way to point the long end, if that's what you mean." You grin.

Jager just gives you a look, unsure of whether the innuendo was intentional or not.

"All right, just hold it both hands like that, keep your feet apart, and straighten out your arms, just like that." Jager says as she shifts your limbs around into a proper firing position. "This will all ensure proper accuracy. You think you can hold this stance?"

From what I can tell, in Mercverse, Estovakia losing the war on Emmeria caused an economic collapse bad enough to facilitate exporting ALL their military technology. If they felt the need to sell CFA-44s and Nimbus missiles, they probably have quite a large amount of mundane surplus that they're funneling into the market. Basically the Strangereal equivalent of Russian surplus.

Hell, there are barges sitting floating in the Indian Ocean where PMC's can rent out guns and ordinance.

"Ha, you got me. I do practice from time to time." You smile as you twirl the handgun like a gunslinger and place it on the counter. "Never knew when you need to use one, right?"

"Having more skills doesn't hurt." Jager nods in agreement, his eyes communicating a newfound respect. "Still, your technique could use a bit of cleaning up. If you want, we can always arrange for extra lessons."

"Heh, private lessons?" You grin.

"If you're that self conscious about your skill, sure." Jager shrugs.

Ooooooh, that was a good one, you'll have to give him that.

"Anyways, I need to run some inventory, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to stick around for that." Jager picks up the handgun and safely holsters it away. "Besides, I'm sure you have better things to do."

You decide it's time to catch up with Mom and Uncle. It's felt like AGES since you've last had a real talk with them. As far as Mom knew, you were still flying for the airline, but who know how long that lie was going to hold up. She could be an infinitely nosy woman, after all. Meanwhile, your Uncle was chasing down the new lead Altman had given you, and he was trying to track down any survivors of Euphrates Squadron. You wonder if he's had any success.

"Karla!" Mom exclaims cheerfully. "How are you?"

"No need to be so defensive about it." Mom laughs. "In either case, I'm glad you called! Giles has been coming by quite often these days, and... and I think he wants to go all the way!"

What? WHAT? Oh god. Oh nonononnononono. That is NOT something you want to be imagining in you head. At first you were against the idea of Mom remarrying because you didn't want a "replacement Dad", and then gave you the "talk" and your poor little innocent mind was never the same since.

OKAY, time to change the subject!

"So, uh, how's the neighborhood been treating you? Haven't been getting any pranks or anything, are you?"

For the two of you, "pranks" was just a euphemism for anti-Belkan harassment, something that you experienced all too much when you were young.

"Oh no, it's been rather quiet lately. Nothing out of the ordinary!" Mom assures you. "And you? How has the airline been treating you?"

"Alright, I have to go." You say.

You decide to put the call on hold and you head outside to see what all the commotion is. You can immediately see a rather large crowd gathering at the runway, mostly base personnel. However, the presence of a convoy of black limousines and sedans, as well as a small army of men in suits, indicate to you that guys from Corporate were present. Your eyes hone in on Samantha, talking with some suits. Treister is also present, though he doesn't seem to be mingling with the corporate guys, probably for good reason.

"Hey, Samantha, what's going on?" You ask as you walk over.

"What, you didn't hear?" Samantha blinks. "Jonathon Irons himself from Atlas Corporation is coming in for a visit."

"Wait, what?" You blink. From what you remember, Atlas was the PMC the Butterflies flew for, and from your general knowledge, was one of the largest and most powerful PMCs in the world right now. What were they doing coming down here?

"Yep. Apparently, he was impressed with our performance and is coming down to negotiate some kind of deal!" Samantha grins. "Looks like Artemis is on the map!"

"I got a bad feeling about this." You grumble.

"Ah, you're just being cynical." Samantha chuckles. "Ah, look! Here they come!"

You look at where Samantha is pointing, and see several aircraft coming in: one private jet and four Nosferatu fighters. You already suspect who might be coming in.

"So I assuming those suits are from Corporate?" You whisper.

"Yep! That's our CEO Adrian DeWinter himself!" Samantha nods. "This is big league stuff going on right now!"

"I see." You nod as the private jet touches down, the Nosferatus following close behind. A man, who you assume to be Jonathan Irons, strolls out the door and almost immediately he's swarmed by suits.

Meanwhile, you can see the Butterflies exiting their own planes, but keeping out of the way of the main gathering.

I'm reasonably sure we'll get a chance to talk with the Butterflies soon enough. We need the time to talk with Uncle, since we might not have that chance later.

Part of me wonders if there will be some sort of joint wing set up between our girls and the Butterflies, since there is apparently keen interest in keeping the Butterflies alive.

You head back to the call center, determined to finish that call. You didn't really care all that much about corporate politics. However, you do remember to give a friendly welcome wave to the Butterflies as you pass, and they excitedly wave back, as well. Upon entering the call center, you dial your Uncle's number.

"Ah, Karla, I was expecting your call!" Uncle chuckles.

"Of course you were." You roll your eyes. "So, any updates?"

"It's going slow but steady." Uncle sighs. "Most of Euphrates happen to be dead or MIA. There's still one or two left that I'm trying to track down."

"Ah, well, keep going, then." You nod. "Oh, also, I told Mom the truth."

"Ooooh, I hope she took it well?"

"About as well as she could." You sigh. "At least she backed up when she figured it would increase my prospects of finding a boyfriend."

"Ah, always a popular way to win over a mother." Uncle cackles loudly. "Anything else going on?"

"So, uh, do you have any dirt on the Atlas Corporation?" You ask.

"Well, I know the obvious." Uncle grunts. "One of the largest PMCs in the world, headquartered in Emmeria. They have massive ground and logistics assets, but not a lot of naval or air power. I heard they were shopping around for partnerships with other PMCs to cover those weaknesses."

Ah, so maybe that's why they came to Artemis.

"CEO is Johnathan Irons. No military history, and a businessman through and through. However, his son was in the Emmerian army and fought in the Emmerian-Estovakian war. He... didn't make it, I'm afraid."

Dang, that was rough. Nobody should lose their kid like that.

"Other than that, pretty much everything about Atlas is legitimate. Nothing shady or illegal going on, at least on the surface. Can't say what they're doing internally, though. Belka doesn't do any business with them so our contacts are limited."

"Ah, well, you told me more than enough." You thank him.

"Vaaaaaaaaalkyrie!" You hear a bunch of young voices chime.

Oh no. Guess you couldn't escape them.

"Sorry, Uncle, I gotta cut this short." You say. "I'll call later when I can!"

"Wait a minute, who is that-"

You quickly hang up the phone and turn to face the newcomers, the Butterflies.

"Valkyrie! I was hoping we'd see you here!" Dawn grins.

"I-It was why we came here in the first place!" Lightning nods.

"Hey, hey! Why don't you show us around?!" Thunder says excitedly.

"OHMYGOSH THEY ARE SO CUUUUUUUUTE!" Lara squeals as she swoops in like a predatory bird and sweeps all four girls up in her arms. "I'M GONNA TAKE ALL OF YOU HOME!"

Yep, Lara was going to fit right in with them.

"Oh my!" Lilian smiles as she and Amy arrive right after Lara. "Making new friends I see!"

"Aw man, as if we didn't have enough little twerps to take care of!" Amy sighs. "Lara's already enough of a handful!"

"Oh, come on, Amy! Look how cuuuuuute they are!" Lara laughs as the Butterflies turn to face Amy.

"...okay I guess they're kinda cute." Amy concedes.

"We gotta show them our plushies! We can have a PLUSHIE BATTLE!" Lara grins.

"No. NOOOOOO. They're gonna ruin mine!" Amy wails.

"You should at least give it a try, Amy." Lilian puts a comforting hand on Amy's shoulder. "I think it'll be a lot of fun!"

"...fine." Amy pouts.
