You are Shee Hyul, rebel and psychic. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

You are crouched in the bushes, watching a short and thick-set man named Grev peel the clothes off a young woman, barely more than a girl, I mean she looks what, 15, 16 maybe? He has her pinned up against a tree in the overgrown garden of some wealthy person. As the cleaning crew tackles the house Grev and this nameless young woman are supposed to be spraying the stone paths through the undergrowth with weedkiller.

Instead Grev is kissing and groping her whilst the young woman stares off into the distance, unresponsive, as if she doesn’t care about what is happening to her, or perhaps she’s just learned to cope with it. You watch this and you wonder why you’re not furious, why you’re not rushing out there and grabbing Grev, staring into his eyes to use your powers to fill him with fear. You wonder at how calm you are and then you realise, Grev deserves far worse. He had Rainya beaten almost to death because she wouldn’t become his plaything like the girl out there. The girl isn’t fighting him physically either, she looks like she has just gone somewhere in her own head where he can’t hurt her, where it’s happening to someone else. Grev has probably done this to her before, more than once.
>>
You’re not angry, you’re furious at Grev, but it’s a tranquil fury, like maybe you can’t just yell and scream because he’d get away, guards would come running and you’d have to fight or teleport your way out. You don’t have the luxury of noise and a fight, you need this settled quickly. Easy enough of course, Grev has his back to you and doesn’t look like much of a fighter, too thick around the middle and he moves slow. You could just grab him and strangle him into unconsciousness. The girl might make enough noise that the guards investigate though.

You consider reaching out with your powers and controlling Grev, maybe telling the girl to get back to the others, leaving you and Grev alone, but what then? Kill him? Use your powers to scare him off hurting others? Turn him into your pawn? Does he deserve that? Is the death of his body or his mind a suitable punishment? Perhaps you want revenge rather than justice. Revenge for what he did to Rainya, revenge for all the girls he’s hurt.

And then there’s the fact that if you were to say...make him turn himself in to the police, they have their own mages, and possibly psychics, no matter how skilled you might one day become, right now you’re a talented amateur, your tampering is probably easy to detect.

So what is the plan with Grev?

How to get him alone
>Grab him physically and subdue him
>Dominate him, tell the girl to go
>Go elsewhere, Apport Grev to you
>Other (what?)

And once you have Grev
>Use Horrifying Gaze to terrify him
>Kill him (raises cynicism, this pleases the Ichor in the Depths)
>Beat him like he had Rainya beat (raises Cynicism, this pleases Jagganatha)
>Use Psychic Surgery to prevent him from hurting other girls (1 hour,-15 to check)
>Use Psychic Surgery to make him your slave (1 day, -25 to check, this pleases Baalzamon)
>Other (what?)
>>
If using Psychic Surgery please specify where you will be taking him for this, plus how you’ll be getting there.

Feel free to write-in a plan if you want to do something other than grabbing Grev and taking him somewhere private.

This was the last XP use posted at the end of last thread

Shee Hyul, 20/30 XP
>Enhance Ability -5 XP
>Enhance Senses -5 XP
>Life Extension -5 XP
>Willpower of the Infinite Mirror +1 (3) -5 XP

Lirael, 30/31 XP
>Sight +3 (12) -15 XP
>Might +2 (7) -10 XP
>Healing +1 (8) -5 XP

Rainya Halms, 21/23 XP
>Duplication +2 (4) -12 XP
>Constitution +3 (15) -4 XP
>Toughness +1 (2) -4 XP
>Pistols Training +1 (1) -1 XP

Dev Mosal, 24/33
>Scavenge -4 XP
>Intelligence +3 (11) -6 XP
>Jury Rig -4 XP
>Longsword Fighting +3 (3) -6 XP
>Melee Combat +1 (2) -4 XP

Unless there are any objections I will be using this, with one modification: Rainya can’t advance Duplication past 2 (yet) until she gets over her block somehow. I plan for this to come up in-character shortly.

I don't really see any way we could get him somewhere else right now where we would have 1 hour to work on him.
Unless we purchase Mind-Link for this.
>>
>>37584652
Teleportation maybe?
>>
>>37584590
As we had noted at the end of the last thread, Shee is still missing Adaptive Mutation from her charsheet. Together with not having gotten her Favors updatet, Mirror would be 4 now. And I'm fairly sure Ichor 5.

>>37584662
I still think they got something against teleportation in rich Hiver houses, it just seems sensible to me. We can try Apporting him to us later, though.
>>
>>37584680
Shee is also missing her Light Plasma Pistol, as well as her Heavy Plasma Rifle.
>>
>>37584652
We could also just kill him after beating him up.
I would favor that, actually. If we just beat him up, he is ging to take it out on the girls after he comes back.
>>
Updating character sheet now, not all XP use included yet.

I'm seeing Dominate, beat and Gaze winning. With no location picked you'll be doing all this here, unless specified otherwise. Writing but will check back in case you want to make changes.
>>
>>37584720
I'd rather Dominate him into walking outside of the range of any Teleportation protection, Teleport away and mind-rape him. Murder is a bit too merciful.
>>
Oh and please roll 2d20, 3 rolls for Dominate but a 4th roll for Horrifying gaze is required.

First 4 rolls will be used.
>>
Rolled 3, 20 = 23 (2d20)

>>37584735
>I'd rather Dominate him into walking outside of the range of any Teleportation protection
We can't really do that, since we need to keep him in our line-of-sight for Dominate.
And we can't really sneak out while constantly keeping an eye on him.
We would have to purchase Mental Contact for that.

>>37584742
>>
Rolled 5, 1 = 6 (2d20)

>>37584742
>>
Rolled 12, 14 = 26 (2d20)

Which is why we keep a reserve of 5-10 XP. Mental Contact is useful anyway.

>>37584747
>>37584749
>>37584750
Of course, with rolls like these...

We could actually still win, since our Willpower modifier is high enough to give us an unnatural 12 and Grev probably has junk for Willpower if he can't separate business and pleasure.
>>
>>37584747
>>37584749
>>37584750
>>37584757
Oh wow, this starts really well.
But unless he got surprisingly high Will, our modifiers should beat his save.
>>
>>37584764
>give us an unnatural 12
We only have a Mod of +7, we don't have a Adept bonus on Domination.
>>
Rolled 10, 14 = 24 (2d20)

>>37584792
5 + 7 = 12.
>>
You stare at the back of Grevs head and reach out with your powers, forcing your way into his head, he jerks and twitches fighting against you.

“What, what’s happening?” asks Grev, stumbling back from the girl, shaking his head. She just gives him a confused look as he looks around wildly, eyes darting and breathing rapidly.

“Who’s there?” he calls out, looking around he doesn’t seem to spot you. The girl is still back against the tree, watching Grev in fear.

“Show yourself monster!” yells Grev, pulling a knife out of his uniform and slashing at the air “You’ll not take me to the house again, I won’t let you!”

What do you do?

>>
Rolled 3 + 7 (1d20 + 7)

>>37584856
>>37584862
Now that'd be awkward.
>>
You grit your teeth and keep trying, eventually you seize Grevs consciousness and push it to the back of his mind, supplanting his will with yours.

Grev puts the knife away and says to the girl “Go help the others in the house, I need to be alone.”

The girl gives a fearful look at Grev and then hurries off, dressing herself as she goes. Once she has gone you crawl out of the bushes and stand up, your face concealed both by rags and an illusion. Grev stands motionless in front of you, inside his head his mind struggles against your touch but you have him held firmly.

You keep him still and silent as you stare deep into his eyes and fill his mind with visions of torment and suffering, Grev gives no outwards sign of what’s happening, held fast in your grip but his mind ceases struggling against your grip momentarily, before renewing its attempts to break free.

With Grev full of fear you keep your grip on him, ake his knife away and pick up a handy fallen branch, stripping leaves and twigs off it to make it easier to hold and then you go to work. You split your attention between beating Grev and holding him silent. You hit him again and again with your improvised club, you break his nose and split his cheeks, you hit his arms and legs until even held by your will he collapses on the floor, and then you go to work on his flabby torso, hammering your club into his unresisting body again and again.
>>
You let out all your rage and frustration, your moral outrage over what he’s done to these girls, what he did you Rainya. For a time there’s nothing but the dull thud of your club against your unresisting target, eventually you feel a burning in your arms and you pause, looking at the bloody mess of the man at your feet. You look at the blood-stained club in your hands and the man lying at your feet and you don’t feel satisfied, you don’t feel righteous or just, you only feel...empty. You stare down at the scum at your feet and think about how you just beat a helpless man to a pulp, this wasn’t justice, but still, you think coldly, it had to be done, because how else is he going to be punished for what he did? There’s no justice or ideals here, only what needed doing.

[Cynicism +1, Hope -1]

Even under the grip of your iron will, Grev is still groaning quietly, though his mind is no longer struggling against yours.

What do you do?

>Go, this was enough
>More punishment (what?)

Inside you there is a strength growing, washing away your fatigue.
Accept the Gift of Jagganatha?

>if we use existent trauma and emotions as the base and just attach it to a certain kind of activity
I don't know how else you imagined it to be done.
Everthing else would be even harder, because rewriting his brain would be giving him a new personality, which would be -25.
>>
>>37585036
>It's not altering anything
Yes, if you make his brain associate things it used to not associate, its altering.
And its not attaching one piece to another, its attaching one piece to a lot of future pieces.

>>37585035
How else did you plan the "prevent him" to work? I had assumed giving him feedback was the default assumptiom.
>>
>>37585035
I assume it comes with the risk of not knowing how exactly he reacts to this kind of thing, it might make him more violent too, no?
>>
>>37585066
By removing his desire to hurt and control others, but pain/feedback works too.

You drag Grev into the bushes out of sight, despite his bulk he feels light. You sit down beside him and get to work. Grev simply lies there unresisting as you use your powers to pick apart his mind. Yeesh this is one messed up guy. You can’t read specifics but there’s a lot of pain and abuse in his early years. He had a lot of run-ins with the law and then ended up...somewhere that hurt him, hurt him a lot, far worse than what you did today. It was only after that he started preying on women, teenagers for preference. You really don’t want to know what happened to him there.

You strip away his desire to hurt and control others. He can still get aroused but hurting others, preying on girls is no longer one of his turn-ons. You don’t know if he’ll be able to start a normal relationship, but no longer will he get his kicks from hurting and raping women.

[Psychic Energy 12/27]

After an hour its done, you finish your work by editing his memories of you, he’ll know he was attacked but will only have blurry recollections of who it was, maybe he’ll think it was one of the guards or something. Either way, he’s starting to come around. You slip away into the undergrowth and watch as Grev wakes up, climbs unsteadily to his feet, looks around in a confused manner, blinking rapidly, then heads off towards the house. You leave, your work here complete.

What are you up to next?

You feel stronger, tougher, unbeatable!

[Favour of Jagganatha +1]

Jagganatha offers a choice of 3 gifts.

Vote in 10 minutes

Durability of Jagganatha
Raises Durability of the King of Hell by 1, unlocks Jagganatha-specific powers.
At Durability of the King of Hell 2 your bonus to constitution rises to +2, your damage reduction to 4 and your bonus Hit Points to 10. You also gain a +1 bonus to strength.
Some powers are shared by the Five, Durability is one, taking this power makes it *Durability of the King of Hell and Jagganatha* followed by a number to represent how tough you are.

Might of Jagganatha
Raises Strength, higher levels increase strength more and open up strength-related powers such as the ability to lift and carry vast amounts, throw huge objects etc.

Beast Form
You are transforming into a monstrous animal/human hybrid. Initially you simply gain sharper senses, higher levels progress the transformation, offering options of claws, bite attacks, natural armour etc. Extra powers under this heading include sacrificing a mental ability score to improve physical ones and allowing you to switch between animalistic and humanoid form at will.

You feel the power of Jagganatha making you mightier than ever, you feel like your skin can shrug off bullets and laser blasts, so tough are you now, well, weak ones anyway.

With the power of all of the Five within you, you have taken a significant step on the road to...whatever you are going to be. The powers of all Five surge and battle within you briefly and you feel unwell, you feel like throwing up and a pain grows in your head, then subsides. Maybe they just needed to reach some sort of equilibri-

Ahhh, no, hurts, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. You double over as pain rips you apart.

You writhe on the floor as your flesh feels like it wants to rip away from your bones. Within you the nascent godling you are is finally born. You are no longer just a human, if indeed you ever were, you are now something...more.

The pain recedes and you are left gasping on the floor, fortunately you are still at the edges of the house, concealed by the undergrowth. You wait a bit but no further pain is forthcoming. You gingerly check your body and your mind using your powers. Hidden within your mind is a solid crystalline thing, a gift from the Infinite Mirror? No, something else. You prod at it with your will but it doesn’t respond, perhaps it needs time to grow this crystal thing?

The effects of this have been delayed, I’m still finalising details. When its ready in-character Shee can choose to open it up.

When you’ve finally recovered you slip away from the property and head out of the Hive, as you do so you send short texts to Ash and Sergeant Yonsul. You ask Yonsul about a meet-up, and you ask Ash about him hanging around with Quinn.

Both reply as you’re on the bus out of the Hive, the sergeant suggests a street name and a time that evening, no address, just a street name, is this going to be your first arrest?

Ash only replies that its complicated and asks when you're free to talk face-to-face. You’ll have to think about what to do about him and Quinn.

You get back to Dust Town at around midday and pick Lirael up from school, the teacher is surprised but lets you take her without complaint.

“Where are we going Shee?” asks Lirael as you walk.

“Going to get Rainya first” you say “Then away to the base.”

“Can I play-” asks Lirael

You smile “Yes you can play SimGuns Lirael” you say.

You find Rainya helping a number of other Duster women as they shovel and brush dust away from vital arieas, the kitchens, the hospitals, the nurseries, a never-ending task. Spotting you Rainya makes her excuses and heads over.

“Hey Shee” she says quietly.

“Hey Rainya” you say, resisting the urge to inspect her “How’re you doing?”

Rainya shrugs “No pain” she says “I never” Rainya looks away, embarrassed “I never got to properly thank you, not awake anyway, Shee so yeah, thanks, and I owe you one.”

“You know” you say to Rainya “I think we should try exploring your powers today”.

“What do you mean?” asks Rainya “Explore how? I can just make two of me, as Champion powers go that’s not very impressive.”

“I’ve been reading the Teachers files on champions” you say “You should be able to do more doubles.”

“I dunno” says Rainya “I don’t think its possible.”

“Can we try” you say “please, for me?”

“Ok” says Rainya, without much conviction.

The two of you sit on a bench at the back of the SimGun range as Lirael blazes away at a variety of holographic targets, giggling as she does so.

“Ok” you say to Rainya “How do you do it?”

“I dunno” says Rainya, as another Rainya splits off from her, sat on the bench “I just do” her voice comes from both mouths at once.

“And when you try to create another” you say “What happens then?”

The Rainyas just shrug “Nothing, you can only stretch a limb so far.”

“Let’s try it now” you say. The Rainyas nod and you watch as expressions of strain appear on both faces, and nothing happens.

“See” says the Rainyas “Nothing” she recombines, leaving just a single Rainya.

Hmm, how to approach the problem?

Rainya, you know with constant practice and repetition you can move past your bodies normal limits right? Exercise makes muscles stronger, stretching makes limb more flexible, running makes you faster and harder to wind. You can do this just push the notions of limits out of your head, and try! If it worked for me and my psychic powers, i'm sure you can do this.

“You can do this Rainya” you say “I know you can, I know you won’t give up, c’mon.”

After several hours of cajoling and encouragement, including a bout of tears from an exhausted Rainya, you are sat on the floor, Rainyas head in your lap “I’m sorry Shee” she sobs “I’m just not good enough, I let you down”.

Lirael is taking a break from guns, reading from her datapad.

“No you didn’t” you say, stroking her hair “You’d never let me down, we just need to try something else.”

“I’m sorry” repeats Rainya “You must hate me.”

“I’d never hate you” you say “You tried your best and that’s enough, more than enough.”

Rainya looks up at you, her eyes glistening with tears “I’m not going to stop trying to make you proud” she says, and then her whole body tenses.

“Rainya” you say, “it’s alright, you did enough for today, you can rel-”

“Nnnnnngh!” says Rainya and another Rainya appears beside her.

“Hey be careful” you say, holding onto both exhausted Rainyas “You’ll do yourself an injury.”

“AAAAAAAAAAAH!” screams the Rainyas in your grip.

“Rainya?” calls over Lirael in shock, heading over.

“Rainya stop it!” you yell, shaking both of the Rainyas lying on the floor and yelling.

A pair of arms embrace you from behind, wrapping around your neck “Not now Lirael” you say.

“What?” says Lirael, from in-front of you.

You look at the arms around your neck, the dark-skinned bare arms and turn around to see a third Rainya, kneeling behind you, hugging you, completely naked. Maybe she’ll be able to do clothes for her third body after some practice?

“Shee I did it!” yells the third Rainya “Look at me I did it!”

>>
The mutating power of the Ichor in the Depths flows into you, changing you.

[Ichor Favour +1]

The Deep Mother offers 1 of 3 gifts.

Tentacles
You grow four 6ft-long tentacles on your body, typically emerging from your back. They appear as amorphous black and green limbs and have the same strength as your normal limbs. Higher ranks grant you more tentacles and make them stronger.

Mothers Pain
As you suffer, those who care about are driven to greater feats. The more damage you suffer in a battle, the larger the bonuses your allies receive. They must be able to see or hear you to gain this bonus.
Higher ranks allow larger bonuses and more varied bonuses as long as more of those you care about are nearby.
Those who currently qualify for the purposes of this power are: Ashley, Lirael, Rainya
This list may change over time.

Wishcrafting
Your rank in Wishcrafting increases
At Wishcrafting 2 you can nominate a single psychic power or gift you posses. All willpower rolls when using that Gift or power benefit from a +5 bonus when being used to grant wishes. You can make a Fellowship check against any creature that can see, hear and understand you; if successful the targeted creature must make a wish immediately for something they want. This is a telepathy effect. You can choose to grant this wish or not.

Wishcrafting can be purchased with XP and Pain require sus to get hurt, which isn't really something I would like to rely on, considering evading damage is still our main strategy.

So, it seems the Day of the Tentacle has finally arrived.
>>
>>37585994
Thank you

Pain or Tentacles seem like the best choice since we can bump wish with exp. Tentacles would probably be best, we can't always have everyone with us on mission.
>>
>>37585832
>That’s great Rainya, but uh, clothes?
>>
>>37585968
Probably going to go with anything but Tentacle, because getting tentacle will mean peopl will be more rluctant about getting the Tail, which is the superior limb.
>>
>>37585907
Where did it say that the gods we have high favor with get to warp our brain as we develop, exactly?

Jaggantha and Infinite Mirror are mostly okay. Baalzamon can be okay at times. Betrayal domain can eat a dick, though.

>>37586036
It means no such thing.
>>
>>37586036
a tentacle is like a tail just... more
>>
>>37586036
I'm pretty open to getting both.
They serve different purposes in my eyes, since Tail comes with its own weapon, while tentacles are something we grasp our pistol with.
>>
>>37586036
Baalzamon still has a lot of low level gifts, we might not even get another shot at it. But if we don't get anything else good from him we'll picki it up.

>>37586067
And melee if we have too. Not to mention easier to carry bulky thing with them.
>>
>>37586059
They said it themselves. The more favor she has with one of them, the closer they are to being like them.
>>
>>37586061
Nah, the tentacles are longer, but they don't get the natural weapon of the tail. Nor do they give the bonuses to athletics stuff.
Tail is more the additional weapon, tentacles are more multi-purpose.
>>
>>37586077
Did they mean that literally or was it just a flavorful way of mentioning physical mutations and that favor is earned by behaving in a manner in-line with their domains?
>>
>>37586087
They're basically Yozi expys, pretty sure they are meaning it in both sense of the word.
>>
>>37586059
>Where did it say that the gods we have high favor with get to warp our brain as we develop, exactly?
They were rather circumspect about it in our conversation, but they did say we become more like those we gain Favors from, but that might just mean, that we get Favors because we become more like them because we keep picking their "side".

>>37586087
We don't know, it was vague, and I would assume on purpose.
Its not outright mindcontrol or anything like that, but they might steer us in certain directions, its unclear.

Tentacles are fully retractable with Shadows of the Depths, IIRC. Tail is as well.
>>
>>37586160
Doubt that. They are all screened/checked BEFORE the party.
>>
>>37586173
The retracting is part of the disguise, not anything independent, someone piercing the disguise will see the tentacles.
>>
>>37586160
So not a big deal then.
>>
>>37586186
They might if we had the tentacles out and flopping about hidden by illusions, but they'd be inside our body through an entirely biological function.
>>
>>37586181
Why would they not have also security measures on the party itself? Nothing stops anyone from intercepting a guest after the screening and taking their form.
Of course they don't stop looking for illusions on the gathering itself.
>>
>>37586200
No, thats not how it works.
If we have the tentacles out, the entire disguise doesn't apply at all anyway.
The shapeshifting that allows us to hide the tentacles is magical in nature, if they pierce the disguise, they see the tentacles, because thats how it works.

You turn around in Rainyas embrace, looking her third up and down as the two others slowly climb to their feet “Oh I’m looking Rainya” you say “I’m looking”.

Rainya beams at you, clearly proud of herself and then she looks a little confused as you grin at her, waiting for her to figure it out, in the mean time you admire her form. Though a year younger than you, Rainya is already curvier than you, with noticeable breasts and hips and a narrow waist and a flat stomach. Her newest double has none of ever-present grey dust sticking to her and her dark brown skin is smooth and free of blemishes.

Then Rainya figures out why you’re grinning.

Her eyes go wide and she uses her hands to cover herself, she might be blushing but with her skin tone, you can’t be sure.

“Rainya?” asks Lirael “Where are your clothes?”

“They, I just, I mean” says Rainya, finally settling on “Shee why didn’t you say something?”

“Like what?” you say, your grin widening “That I’m glad to see 50% more of you than I’ve seen before?”

“You’re impossible!” complains Rainya. She approaches her other two bodies and they touch one another carefully, then there’s only a single, fully clothed Rainya in front of you. Rainya practises for another 10 minutes as you and Lirael watch, eventually she manages to repeat her performance, and is able to make two duplicates, and all three of her bodies are wearing clothes.

“Thank you Shee” they chorus, the three hugging you together, as Lirael goes back to Simguns,

“No need to thank me” you say “I care about you Rainya and I’m always happy to help you.”

The power of the Ichor ripples under your flesh, remaking you and you feel sharp pains in your back as your new limbs ache to burst forth. As they grow within you, keeping them hidden is painful, but letting them out might freak out Rainya and Lirael.

“Rainya” you say “Lirael, I just want to warn you, this might be a little weird.”

Rainya folds her arms and gives you a look “Weirder than you ogling me?” she asks.

“Maybe” you reply, adding “Lirael leave the simguns alone for a moment.”

Lirael looks over.

You pull off your top, you don’t want it getting ripped and you stretch, ah glorious blessed relief...

Four green-and-black tentacles emerge from your back and sway through the air as you flex and stretch them, working out the cramps from their fast growth within you. They are each 6ft long and as thick as your wrist, though they each taper to a fine point.

Rainya appears frozen in place, just watching the limbs wave around.

“Are they shadows?” asks Lirael, coming over and poking one of your limbs with a finger.

“No I think they’re real” you say as Lirael continues to poke and prod at one of your limbs.

“Oh good” says Lirael, heading back to the simguns “Because shadow arms are just creepy.” Ok...

You switch your gaze to Rainya, who seems entranced by your limbs as they wave through the air.

“Rainya?” you ask

“Mmm” she says, staring.

“You’re not freaked out?” you say

“Ah no, no” Rainya reassures you “just, they’re so...strange” She watches your limbs until you retract them , biting her lower lip as she does so, you’re not sure what she’s thinking.

“Right” you say to the two of them “Let’s go vault hunting.”

“Aww now?” says Lirael “I was just gonna beat my high-score.”

“Yes now” you say “C’mon, it’ll be fun.”

You, Rainya and Lirael spend several hours searching the facility. After a while you find what is probably one of the vaults Charuns was talking about.

It’s a large, solid security door, much like the one on the plasma gun armoury. The label on the door has been scratched off, just a prank maybe, or someone wanting to hide something?

Your senses are far sharper now and they led you here, past the door there is a smell of oil and machinery, smells a little like guns.

Examining the door you see that the wording wasn’t scratched off, it was clawed off, indeed, whatever did it made a spirited attempt to simply claw through the bulkhead. The claw marks
Are old and dusty however, whatever happened her was long ago.

You pull your toolbox out from the other space and select a few tools, crouching at the door.

“Here coming the boring bit” confides Lirael to Rainya.

“What?” asks Rainya

“All the geek stuff” says Lirael “You wanna play space pirates Rainya?” Lirael hands Rainya another datapad.

Well of course you think to yourself, it’s probably proof against teleportation, and you could exhaust a lot of plasma packs melting through this door.

You ignore the commentary and go to work. This lock is similar to the last one you took apart and you are pretty confident that success here is just a matter of time.

Things are different now though, your senses are much shaper and you can hear the locks mechanism move as you poke and prod at it, you can see the tiny bloom of a pin-prick of light just before the locks electronic display changes its message you can smell...you can smell oil and machinery in the room behind the door, you breath in deeply, trying to analyse the smell...ugh, it smells like there’s something dead in there.

You try to ignore the stink as you pry off the locks cover. Your new limbs are a great help, holding tools for you, and giving your more points of contact on the locks covering plate as you pull it off. The fine tips can slip in places your fingers can’t, too.

It’s not long before the lights on the lock are green and the door is open. You call your rifle into your hands as the door rolls slowly open.

Lirael and Rainya look up as you walk slowly into the room and look for the lights.

“Trouble?” asks Rainya, standing.

“Not sure” you say, the stench in here is foul. Finally you locate the lights and the contents of the room are revealed.

Inside are weapons racks, lots and lots of weapons racks. They are filled with knives and swords and axes and polearms, all with toothed blades. Lirael and Rainya enter cautiously behind you as you search the room looking for the source of the ugh, there it is.

In one corner is a dead person. The body is long dead, dried and decayed, the flesh sloughed off looking melted, the bones poking through looking yellowed. In its hand is clutched a spear.

“What are these?” asks Rainya, taking a dagger off the racks even as Lirael comes up to your side, saying “Ugh what’s that smell?”

Seeing the dead body Lirael covers her nose and mouth with her hand saying “Ugh, yuck.”
>>
“What?” asks Rainya, joining you.

“You can’t smell that?” you say.

Rainya comes around the corner of the weapons rack “Smell wha-, who is that?” she asks as she sees the body.

“No idea” you say, trying to breathe shallowly. The clothes on the body are old and mouldering, but the jacket appears to have a hole ripped in it around the abdomen, a stab wound maybe? You’ve no idea what this guy (girl?) was doing locking themselves in a weapons vault.

As Rainya examines the knife she’s found you take it offer and say “Watch”, you flick a switch and the serrated teeth of the knife start moving up and down the blade.

“Weird” says Rainya, as Lirael exists the room, heading for fresher air.

“It’s a machine blade” you explain “rips up whatever you’re hitting.”

“Can I take some?” asks Rainya

“Sure” you say, looking over the racks “Grab spare power packs though.”

“Sure” says Rainya.

You wonder if you should grab some weapons for yourself, with your dimensional arsenal you could grab a few at once, and with your extra limbs, maybe some melee weapons would be a good idea.

You grab one of each of the weapons, as well as a few extra knives, as Lirael grabs a short sword and Rainya grabs a pair of swords as well.

With your weapons stowed in another place you kneel down by the body, using your healing powers, trying to figure out what happened, as you examine the place around it, looking for clues.

The body is too decayed to tell you much, but your powers pick up that it had a wound in the stomach, as well as something tearing up the blood vessels from the inside, disease maybe, or poison.

But that’s all you know. Someone or something cut this person up and left them here, or maybe they locked themselves in, huh, the claw marks on the door, you take another look at them, was this guy attacked by something, wounded and poisoned, and then crawled in here, locked the door and died? Maybe, but you don’t know by what.

You’ll just have to be careful. Maybe Lirael can use her powers to tell you more.

Have Lirael use her vampire powers to examine the body?

“Lirael” you call her back into the room “I know you’ve got some really good uh, psychic senses” you indicate the body “can you tell me anything about this guy.”

“He’s dead” says Lirael.

You roll your eyes “Other than that” you say, as Lirael crouches down and leans in you add “Don’t touch him, he might have a disease.”

Liraels eyes are closed “No” she says with certainty and stands up “it was poison, from...something.”

Lirael walks around the room, describing the mans last moments as if she’s seeing them, but in reverse.

“He bled to death” she says “even as the poison was stopping him from breathing, he searched all over the room for radio or comm. or a way out, he’d locked himself in here to escape them.”

“Them who?” you ask “Lirael who killed him?”

Lirael frowns, her eyes still closed, and then they snap open “We need to leave, now!” she yells.

“What?” you say, confused.

“Shee” says Lirael urgently, grabbing at you “port us away, far away from here.”

“Why?” you ask as Rainya half-draws her knife, looking around for the threat.

“The Serec were here!” says Lirael, in a panicky voice.

“The what?” you ask, Rainya just shrugs in response to your confused look.

“The Serec” says Lirael “The all consuming swarm, the endless hunger, the monsters.”

“Lirael” you say carefully, holding her tight “Are there any near here?”

Lirael closes her eyes and after a few minutes says “no” drawing out the word “But they could come back” she says.

Well, whatever these *Serec* are, they’re long gone, or so you hope.

A bit more cautious, you set out searching for another vault.

After another couple of hours searching you find one, this one has the labelling intact and is labelled *Armoury 19-C: Electron Guns*

Sounds good, you start unpacking your tools as Lirael and Rainya settle down to play with their datapad games.

Your head comes up as you hear something, a skittering, like claws on glass, looking around you see Lirael with her head up too, and she’s pale and trembling.

“Shee” mumbles Lirael “They’re here...”

You feel an alien telepathic presence press up against your mind for a second, and then its gone. Lirael is whimpering, did she feel it too?

Rainya is looking at the two of you “What’s going on?” she asks

“I’m not sure” you say, as Lirael hugs Rainya, burying her face in Rainyas side.

The Gouger? Anon, the Gouger wasn't a bug monster.

>>37587900
I don't get how you managed to find an association between alien bugs and Gifted.
>>
Is the facility big enough for the mech to operate within it?
>>
>>37587900
Nah, multiple Gougers would be easy to kill.
Talk about ruptured blood vessels makes me fear something far smaller and harder to deal with.
>>
“Alright” you say to Lirael and Rainya “We’re leaving, we’ll be back once we’re better prepared.”

The two of them grab hold of you and you teleport back to Dust Town, just as the corridor of the facility fades from your vision, to be replaced by the walls of your shack you see some multi-limbed, vaguely humanoid monster stalk around the corner, coming into view.

Apart from the skin discolouration, and the serrated teeth, its face looks completely human.
---
Back in your shack Lirael clings to you and doesn’t want to let go. You cuddle her and try to get her to talk about these *Serec*, find out what she knows, but she just whimpers and holds tightly to you. Rainya hugs Lirael as well, both of you try to comfort her.

Your comm. beeps, ah yes, you set an alarm so it would tell you when you needed to start getting ready to see the sergeant.

Of course, you did not expect any of this.

What do you do?

“Lirael” you say “Lirael, will you be ok with Rainya for a bit?” After a pause, Lirael nods, still not letting go of Rainya.

“I’ve got to go” you say “I’ll be back soon.”

As one Rainya holds Lirael, whispering soothingly to her, another Rainya walks with you to the door “What do I do if she gets thirsty?” asks Rainya quietly.

“I’ll be back soon” you say

“And if you’re not?” asks Rainya.

“I will be” you assure her.
---
You get the bus back into the Hive and head for the street that Sergeant Yonsul told you to meet her at. You wander up and down the street, its low hive and not many people about, but a rough area, you are on your guard. Eventually a police car pulls up and Sergeant Yonsul gets out “I’m going to have to ask you a few questions Miss” she says, as if she doesn’t recognise you “We’ve had reports of dealers in this area.”

“Yeah?” you say, all low-hive surliness “Go catch them then.” Zasky steps out of the car, one hand on the gun strapped to his side.

As you and the sergeant play the role of strangers, the sergeant has you place both hands on the car as she searches you, this close you feel her breath on the back of your neck as she says “people are watching, just play along.”

Sergeant Yonsul searches you thoroughly and then pulls out a small plastic bag “Ah, something to make the evening brighter huh?”

“That’s not mine!” you protest “You planted that!”

“Yeah yeah” she says, putting cuffs on you and bundling you into the car, “get in”.

As Zasky pulls away Sergeant Yonsul asks you “So what news is there?”

What news is there?

As Zasky drives you give sergeant Yonsul the basics, how you’ve gotten close to Kae, how Quinn is on the outs, and about the Forge reopening.

“That’s good” says the sergeant, “Zasky pull in here” the car pulls into an abandoned car park, heading down a couple of levels, until there’s no car in sight.

You and the sergeant get out and she takes the cuffs off you, adding “Anyone could tell they were up to something big, but that’s offworld concerns, that’s above even the Kings head, good find Shee, thank you.” You rub your wrists where the cuff have chafed them. You walk away from the car as Zasky lights a cigarette.

“So what’s Quinns deal?” you ask the sergeant “first he tries to attack me, then he covers for me with Kae, what aren’t you telling me?”

Sergeant Yonsul looks uncomfortable, then says “we have partners in this plan” she says “They wanted their own agent involved, that’s Quinn. He’s under strict orders to help you get close to Kae” she explains “Orders that I’m now giving you in kind: help Quinn get close, don’t sabotage him, this is a delicate operation. I need you to help him back in close with Kaelyn.”

“That’s bullshit!” you yell, your voice echoing in the empty car lot “Quinn is a scumbag, no way am I cooperating with him at all.”

“Still” says the sergeant, her hands in her pockets “The orders stand, if you sabotage Quinn” she looks away “If Quinn can’t get close to Kae, and names you as the cause, then both of us will end up dead” she says quietly “It’s that simple.”

You growl in frustration, no way are you helping Quinn.

“Is that everything?” asks Sergeant Yonsul, ignoring your stubborn expression.

“Yes” you say sulkily, still steamed about Quinn being involved.

The sergeant gives you a hard look “You’re a poor liar Shee” she says “What else is there?”

She's probably working on behalf of Quinn's grandfather, or at least an organisation he's a part of. This seems like a bad idea. Can't we just say that there's a vampire party and leave it at that?

Still we need to tell her now before Quin sets us up for death. Besides if she tries anything we can take her.

>>
“I can’t get Quinn back in” you say, shaking your head “Not possible.”

Sergeant Yonsul grabs you by the shoulders “Shee if you don’t, we’re dead-”

“I can’t” you say “Because old man Crimsonthorne tried to mess with Kae’s mind, she found out, and now she hates Crimsonthorne, and Quinn.”

Sergeant Yonsuls grip on you goes slack. And then you hear a strange sound. It takes you a moment to realise that it’s the Sergeant, laughing.

“That’s beautiful” she says in between bouts of laughter “He was so intent upon finding out her secrets that he screws it up himself, hahahah oh wow.” She laughs for a while, getting it out of her system.

Once the merriment has died down she asks you again, but this time with a smile “Ok, what didn’t you want to tell me.”

“Kae told me about a vamp social meet-up” you say, relaying the information Kae gave you.

Sergeant Yonsuls smile slowly fades “Damn” she says “What I wouldn’t give to find out their secrets.”

“I’m not going” you blurt out “I refuse.”

Sergeant Yonsul shakes her head “Of course not” she says “With everything that’s happened, neither you nor I are in favour with the Crimsonthornes we’d- wait,” she says suddenly “You said Kae only just found out about Crimsonthorne messing with her head, and that she wants info on their plans too, has she told Quinn yet?”

“Told him what?” you ask.

“Told him that she hates him” says the sergeant

“I don’t think so...” you say “But what-”

“Here’s the plan” says sergeant Yonsul, striding back and forth, a lot more animated “You tell Kae you’ll spy on Quinn for her, you ask Quinn in front of Kae for an invite to the party, he won’t turn you down, it might tick off Kae. You go to the thing as Quinns date and you find out whatever you can, and feed Kae just enough information to convince her you’re on her side. Only then does she kick Quinn into the trash.”
>>
“That’s crazy” you say “and incredibly risky, a bunch of paranoid old vamps? You just said I was a poor liar, how could I even-”

A spell that just pierces illusions won't notice withdrawn tentacles.

One that identifies powers or species will.

A spell would need to do both to beat your magical protections AND notice the tentacles inside you

>>
ok, stopping vote here whilst I try to untangle it, please wait patiently
>>
>>37589211
Newfag, pls.
Maybe you should get to know a QM before you say shit like that.
If we do something stupid because a character said it will be alright, that won't keep Pally from fucking us for doing something stupid.

>>37589219
>So having tentacles wouldn't ever actually give us away unless we used them
He explicitly said that not how it works, it will give us away every time they check for physical shapeshifting or powers.
>>
Ok, not going wins, and showing her just edges out the other options, with Sara getting close to you.

Writing.
>>
>>37589237
>One that identifies powers or species will.
What I meant by that is that we paid little to no cost by getting tentacles in regards to being covert since any scan that would detect the tentacles would also detect that we're unusual regardless.
>>
>>37589297
I'm not sure if our species would register as unusual before we got tentacles, but we will never know now.
Depends on how that "senses powers" ting would work.
>>
>>37589297
>>37589320
We already registered as not human before we got them. Remember when we asked the base and it said no humans detected?
>>
>>37589186
>A spell would need to beat your magical protections
What, precisely, are our magical protections anyway? What's the DC to beat them with one disguise power? How much does that increase with each extra disguise power? Does Willpower factor into it at all?

>>37589320
Well, we were identified by Teacher as not being entirely human before we got the Tentacles.
>>
>>37589351
>What, precisely, are our magical protections anyway? What's the DC to beat them with one disguise power? How much does that increase with each extra disguise power? Does Willpower factor into it at all?

In-character, you don't know.

I will say that Willpower is a factor though.
>>
>>37589380
Glad we picked up that mirror gift then.

“I can’t go” you say, shaking your head “It won’t work.”

“I know you don’t like Quinn” says the sergeant “But he’s unlikely to try anything in front of dozens of other-”

“It’s not that” you say, making sure that sergeant Yonsul is between you and Zasky you poke a couple of your tentacles out of your clothing and show them to the sergeant “These will give me away”

“What-” says the sergeant stepping back “How did you...”

“It’s a long story” you say , you appendages still waving in the air, the sergeant steps forward and touches one, pulling her hand back after making contact “you’ll have to tell me sometime” she says “this one I really gotta hear.”

“Right” you say “Anyway, as you can see, I probably won’t do so well in a backless dress.”

“You could wear something a little more conservative” says the sergeant, she notices your expression and says “right, right bad idea, and there’s no way to hide them?”

“Not that old vampires couldn’t see through” you say grimly.

“Huh” says the sergeant “You’re probably right.” She sets her jaw as if she’s about to stick her hand into a fire and adds “I guess it’s down to me then.”

“What?” you ask

“We need some sort of leverage over Crimsonthorne” says sergeant Yonsul, “even though the whole mess with Kae is his fault, he’ll still blame us when she kicks Quinn out, so we need to know what he’s up to, since you can’t go, I’ll have to.”

Your response?

>Fine I’ll go

go ask Kae how she wants to play it.
>>
>>37589537
I don't know if I want her to go and succeed or to go and die.

Both are way more appealing than doing nothing and ignoring the party, though.
>>
>>37589470
This, failing that, volunteer.
>>
>>37589575
If we can't convince her to leave it, we have to go, I guess.
No idea what she thinks she could get from going to that party, especially since Crimsonthorn knows who she is and all.
>>
“Kae won’t cut Quinn off rightaway” you say

“With Crimsonthorne messing with her head” points out Sergeant Yonsul “I think she will.”

“I’ll ask her not to” you say “She wants to know Crimsonthornes plans too, she’ll keep him close until she has what she needs.”

Sergeant Yonsul nods “That....could work” she says “But won’t Kae want to know what’s happening there too?”

“She does” you say “She’s trying to get spies in, but she’s not hopeful.”

“Damn” says the sergeant with feeling “If she could find out, that’d suit us fine.”

“Yeah” you say, glad Kae hasn’t asked you to go “So what are you going to do about this party?”

The sergeant looks pensive “I’m going to have to go, this sounds too big to pass up” she says “Official capacity of course, Crimsonthorne knows who I am, no point in trying to infiltrate or anything, I just hope I can find out what’s going on whilst I’m there.”

“Official how?” you ask

“Liaison work” say the sergeant, her mouth twisting as if she’s just bitten rotten fruit “I get all of the damn vamp business because...ah well, anyway, you stay safe, you need a lift?”

Sergeant Yonsul gestures at the car.

Ride?

yeah this, I guess.
Better than either going alone in any case. Going as Feeder brings us nothing but trouble, going as her help or whatever works better. We just pretend Kae send us.
>>
>>37589843
>We just pretend Kae send us.
Pretend that to who? To the vampires, and get ourselves kicked out?

Man, going as a feeder is the simplest and safest option.

He really wants us to go to that party, I guess.
Pretty sure at this point if we wouldn't have told her, she would have found out anyway.
>>
>>37589864
Honestly Safest was is to wear a wig and makeup then act as Ash's feeder. Quin will fuck us up, and if we don't look like Shee Ash's gramps won't flip his shit.
>>
>>37589864
Quinn is pretty much guaranteed to try and pull something if we pretend to be his feeder. Getting into the party isn't even the hard part of this mission.
>>
>>37589869
>>37589894
Stop ignoring plot hooks integral to the quest then.

Besides, it's still possible to let her go alone, ther eis no need to risk Shee over her.
>>
>>37589894
Well at least the players won't be to blame when everything goes wrong at the party.
>>
>>37589921
>Stop ignoring plot hooks integral to the quest then.
Shut up about that shit.
We're going to pursue whatever plot hooks look within Shees character to want to pursue, this thing has "bad shit" written all over it.

>>37590010
Not when a high ranking vampire wants to talk to his grandson, we cant wait outside the room.
>>
>>37590017
Just shut up already, no one cares about your faggotry.
The majority is his opinion, the only reason we even contemplate going to that party is if our hand gets forced by Yonsul going.
The party is not "integral to the plot" if we wouldn't have pressed Kae on it, we wouldn't even know about it.
>>
>>37590017
I get why he'd want to. We're being forced to do a lot that more than a few of us really don't want to do.
>>
>>37590033
Do you not know how parties look like anon?
People are largely gathered in very few rooms, the moment he approaches him he will fucking see us.

That's still retarded, anon.

>>37590041
Not that anon just calling you on being petty. Hell i don't want to go the party either but if it comes down to it, I'm not going to intentionally fuck everything up.

I get that, but if we go we try our best not to fuck up. Because if we go and do fuck up we are dead or worse.

>>37590171

>>37590017
Actually, I wanted to go to the party initially. It's the forced nature of the decision and the incredibly poor arguments on the part of a few anons that have alienated me to it.

I doubt I'll actually wind up spite-voting.
>>
I'm going to have to head off. Great Quest Pally, no idea how you manage all this so well.

You're probably aware, but I haven't seen it mentioned at all - there doesn't seem to be a description for Infernal Focus in any of the pastebins.
>>
>>37590202
Yeah focus is coming, it's just got a lot of powers I need to tinker with.

Thanks for playing
>>
>>37590200
Fair enough. Honestly this is politics heavy we're going to have to start attending the evil rich people parties sooner or later. We at least grabbed an illusion power and might pick up a few more before the party starts. Lets see how it plays out.
>>
>>37589437
>Fine I’ll go
>>
>>37590890
You're an hour and ten minutes too late there, friend.
