Last time, on Feral Necromancer Quest: You felt a dire sense of foreboding. You gave Bathory, your wife bound within her skull, sight. You failed miserably to learn pyromancy. The danger coming turned out to be a group of orcs hunting a black dragon. After ensuring the victory for the serpent, you stabbed it in the eye a lot. You bound its spirit and the spirit of the demonologist orc leader. You had been casting magic a lot, and when the exertion caught up to you, you straight up passed out.

Housekeeping: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=feral+necromancer - prevois threads

Mechanics and leveling up: http://pastebin.com/vBRyBWfK

Each critical roll (failures and successes) when using magic makes your next opposite critical more impressive, at least for now. You have three charges towards making the next critical success more impressive.

Last session you levelled up alchemy and intelligence to 2. Any alchemy checks at this point shall be made at +4.

This game shall be slower, as I am going to be drinking with people while I run it.

The dream sequence shall happen next thread.
>>
You are Vlad Tepish.

Your holdings: an ancient Elven ruin, a well hidden and fortified cave in the wilderness.

Your minions: 22 undead, mostly skeletal. Your elk mount. You control 23/30 maximum minions. Your control is absolute.

Your relationships: Lathrien, your apprentice (agreeable). Bathory, your lover (unfriendly). Bound spirit of a gnoll elder (Bound). Bound spirit of an elven scout (Bound). Gnoll tribe (allies/ treacherous bastards). Elven tribe (acquantances)

Your skills, stats, traits: in the pastebin, along with your equipment.

Your goals: Create a body for Bathory, achieve Immortaliy, Become a power in the region.

You wake up from your dreaming. That was strange. You really should not overuse your magic to that extent, if only to spare you the horrors of unconsciousness. The battlefield is as you left it. There are enough dead orcs around to raise zombies up to your maximum. You have the shortsword to which the spirit of the dragon is bound, and the skull to which the spirit of the orc demon summoner is bound laying on the ground next to you.

What are the dangers? Ways to counteract said risks?
>>
>Do all the things that don't involve getting damned.

The blood of the dragon. It certainly is valuable. You can bottle it, and freeze it with a simple ritual. You have a full body of the stuff and the uses for it are myriad. You make sure to butcher the dragon, taking its scales, bones and teeth. The meat is not magical, not according to the dragon itself, nor the orc. You feel safe eating it, so long as you bleed it properly.

The orc has revealed more than you need to know. Whether through altruism or calculation you feel you should liberate the human slaves the orcs hold. They could be loyal subjects, berserker warriors, countless other things for you. And, you have to admit, the idea of your own being enslaved does not agree with you.

The magic is somewhat tempting, but you decide to wait for when you have no risk of dying to agree to damnation.

Alchemy wins for now.

The properties of raw dragon blood seem to be well known to the orc elder. But you know so much more about the mixing of magical potions and materials. Perhaps, with the help of your research you can enhance the power of the blood, or diminish the drawbacks.

22 Good success!

It is... The power of the material is far beyond what the old orc described. You can only assume he does not know shit about what the actual properties of it are. You could use it to enhance just about any alchemical creation of yours. Hell, with enough refinement you could plainly use it to supercharge your magic. The danger seems to be mostly a byproduct of the sheer power the substance holds.

The use of raw dragon blood is not to be scoffed at either. It would give you much physical strength, although you would be entirely out of control, doing whatever it takes to destroy all that lives around you. You could even further concentrate it to enhance the function.

Asking for BOTH allies wins

The Gnolls owe you much. The elves have been assaulted by the orcish onslaught for a good long time by now. You feel both of your allies have a reason to strike at the orcs. In either case, there is little rush and it would be worthwhile to approach both groups, just in case one of them refused.

You ride, it takes less than a full day. You arrive at the elven camp with curious, angered and suspicious stares. If Lathrien was not with you, you feel like another fucking diplomatic incident would occur. You call out for the elder. It does not take him too long to respond. 'Shit. Pardon my common. You are saying that the orcs are nearby?'

'Indeed. They were hunting a dragon near the ruin. I overpowered them and communed with their leader. They have my people in slavery. I would free them.'

'The orcs are a great power. They were dangerous for our ancestors. Now they are a bedtime story for the young.'

'I will free the human slaves. I would like your help. Know that I shall also ask gnolls. They are little more than animals, but they fight with a viciousness. If you have something against it, stop. There is a sentence I have said a lot before. Sentence that illustrates how our relationship would hopefully go.'

They're drinking piss beer and sake.

You have raised orcs to your safe maximum of 30 and are now riding towards the gnoll pack. They have never been friendly towards the elves, but you are in no mood to be subtle.

The gnoll elder owes you a great deal, although he has been unwilling to provide assistance before. He obeys, but you do fear what he might do were he to decide to betray you. Nonetheless, you need his help and you are willing to be convincing.

You wait for some time. There is silence in the gnoll camp as they smell the scent of elves all around you. It does not take more than ten minutes until Spot shows up.

'Rainbows. Flowers. Illusions. Filthy elfs. What do you want, master?'

'We raid against orcs, join us and you get to pick off their bodies of loot.'

'ALL the loot?'

'Magical baubles go to me. I wish to make the slaves free. Anything else is yours, so long as you are helpful.'

'It is your bidding, master.'

'You said once that all of tribe are fighters. Bring them now. The males, the females, the pups. The battle shall be glorious and you shall gain glory beyond this wretched age!'

'Yes, master!' Spot barks, literally, orders. He sounds intimidating, inspiring. You do not recognize the meaning of the barks, but even you feel ready to join the gnoll in your charge.

The pack gathers up quickly. There is nobody left behind. The pack moves onwards, and it is all of them. They bring their homes with them with ease. They are all happy to fight and die for the good of the pack. You do hope not all of them die. They may be good allies.

Have a kip and a brekkie.

'Set down your burdens. We do not charge today. The sun turns low and we best have bellies full and heads rested afore we go into battle. Drink, eat and acquaintance yourself with your allies. We ride out early next morning!'

'Very well.' Says the Elven elder.

'If we must wait, okay.' Spot says.

Surprisingly many of the elves and gnolls recognize each other's language. They are no allies, and before the fermented berry juice is passed around they are downright pissy with each other. But once everybody is drunk enough, you feel something weird, almost like a friendship forming.

It might have all failed, if not for one elf. In his sack, he had an instrument of the fallen civilization. A horn, made out of metal all gone green by now. And when he blows through it, the sound is joyous and full of life. They may never be friends, but this night they are happy to be allies.

The dawn breaks.

'Bring the dead with us. I might want to raise them when the hour grows desperate.'

Your troops agree. Mostly it is your skeletons and orcish zombies that carry the dead, but there are elves and gnolls willing to join in.

The local assholes are applauding.

You make good time. Your own stealth is beyond question and you command your undead in a skillful manner, making them hide in the underbrush. They do not breathe, they do not move when not ordered to. It is simple to make them disappear.

Spot is a cunning commander. If it was any other order but to sneak you are uncertain how well the gnolls would have fared, but they sneak even further in into the orcish camp than you dare, and yet they are safe from detection. There is no fear amongst them. They do not shudder or fail.

You see that the orcish camp is large. It is the largest gathering of humanoids you have ever seen in your life. Dozens of human slaves work to bring food, to bury the shit, to service the orcs in whichever way they desire (NO! not like that.) There are tents made out of wolfskin, elkskin, they are clearly proficient hunters.

The Elven elder relies on his magic to hide his troops. You see right through it, but it would function well enough against someone without magical training. They sneak up all the way next to an important looking orc, seemingly unnoticed. Then there is a shout. Another orc emerges from one of the tents. He shouts bloody fire, and points towards the elven band. You feel the power of shamanistic magic on him and know that it would be just as easy for him to notice the elves for him as it is for you. Soon, the spell is broken, and orcs are rising up, grabbing their weapons and charging towards the elves.

>The elves are valuable allies. Charging from the flank might help rescue them. Join the fray!
>The elves could be helpful if they survive. Send your undead to help them, attack with the gnolls from another angle.

You direct your undead to assist them, while you join the gnolls to assassinate the orcish shaman. You are on your mount, your blade in hand and spell buzzing through it you charge towards the clearing where he is casting his ritual.

Helping elves 18 barely a success!

The elves are overwrought with the sudden attack, and no matter how well you control your undead, it is inevitable that some of them would fall. The elder does his best to minimize the casualties, but even so three elves have fallen before your undead get there, and one more dies in combat.

Nat 20!!! Saved up critical failures- 3!!! TRIPLE CRIT SUCCESS BOYOS!

You have become death, destroyer of worlds. You have learned to raise disease and to slowly spread it, but it would not have worked here, on the battlefield. Instead, you choose to radiate the bacteria in the air among you. You soon learn that if you choose to spread them and to command them, just like if you command simple gatherers, you can make them deadly. You easily succeed in the raid, and you radiate an aura of disease as you do so. You are feeding of the filth around you and of what the orcish elder told you. The healthy orcs fall dead from mystical illness spreading around you. You doubt you could do it again, but your knowledge of necromancy expands.

You have gained Necromancy IV! You can now raise even more intelligent undead. If you raise casters, they retain their capability to cast magic. If you raise war leaders, they will retain some sense of tactics and command.

This is NOT going to happen with less than triple crit success.

You are astride your great elk, your allies are largely unharmed and the orcs are in disorder. You order all of your troops to charge and to slaughter each and every one of them.

16 Living 22 Dead. Success!

A fleeing orc turns out not to be harmless quarry. You must direct your undead with all your skill to chase them down and to not lose many of your minions. Casualties are inevitable when you are trying to kill all who oppose you, but they are easily replaced by the new bodies of the freshly dead.

Your living allies do not fare as well. They still manage to do their share, but the cornered orcs are vicious, and they are well equipped and powerful in form. (elves are super unlucky in offscreen dicrerolls today.). The gnolls make it out with few casualties, but the elves are not used to the brutal close quarters combat that the orcs favour and force them into. Three more of them fall. Overall, the gnolls have lost only four fighters total, a small portion of their tribe. Elves have lost seven, more than a half of the volunteers.

>Your people come first. Free the slaves, talk to them.
>The elves have lost much. Convince them their sacrifice was not in vain.

Would recommend image. Super smooth for the price.

The humans you see are downbeat and downtrodden. You almost expect them not to reply when you walk up to them and say:

'You are free now.'

The poor, the hungry, the huddled masses turn to you, on their faces an expression clearly telling you they do not remember what freedom means. Or the taste of strawberries. But then...

This is not how you expected the reunion to take place. Two women of your old tribe are here. They are older, and would be looking after the children back in the camp. One of them often asked you when she would look after yours, before Bathory...

You recognize them. Perhaps you should acknowledge them, but should you treat them differently?

>You will be a better slavemaster. 'Free' them into servitude to yourself.
>You need servants. Offer them to work for you, or try their luck in the open wilds.
>You want a tribe. Have them join you, and take you as their elder.
>Take the older women under your wing. The rest shall serve as not much more than slaves.
>Treat the older women especially well in gratitude for their service to your old tribe. Give the others the choice to join or flee.

We are too self absorbed to run a village. Perhaps once we are immortal and have all the time. For now, we cannot afford to spend time on running a village. Maybe they can live with the elves.

Heathen. Try meade. Or absinthe. Or scotch.

I'm not drinking anything the Americans perfected. (Yes I'm saying bourbon is superior to scotch/whisky)

'Ragda, Gerda. I did not expect to meet you here. You are welcome into my home as guests to stay as long as you like. Others, well, I do need servants. I shall not be nearly as harsh as the orcs. Some of my magic might scare you. If you are willing to brave the open wilds, I shall not force you to join me. But the offer is open. It is doubly open for you, elder mothers.'

14 Fair success!

'Vlad, boy. You have saved us. We thank you and will be glad to treat you like elder. So sorry with Bathory...'

'Do not mention it. My dwelling is not a comfortable place, but it is safe. Any who join me will be protected.'

'I will come.' 'And I' 'I as well' 'I am Spartic, and I shall join you' 'Anything is better than the wilds'.

All in all, seven slaves, as well as the two old ladies of your old tribe join you. It will be strange living with humans once more. Stranger yet to teach them what freedom means. Some have surely forgotten. Your success shall never cede. You are the mightiest on this land. And you shall rule over all of it.

(No you're not. No you won't. Shut up! You are my pawn. You are my stepping stone!)

While I am keeping this secret until next thread, I suppose I should clarify. ???,???,Vlad,???,Vlad.

Super marginal favour to returning. I shall try to include as much as I can.

'I shall be heading back. I shall remember the sacrifice of the elder race.'

The elves remain silent, but the elder shows you a thankful look.

'Spot, are your people done with the looting?'

'Yes! I mean no! We will take meat you don't want. Take other bits.'

You take some other bits. There is nothing fancy, but YOUR UNDEAD ARE ARMED. ~13 Bows, 26 spears, sticks, stones.

'I shall return to the ruin now. Those who said they would follow, come.'

As much as you had hoped to make an impression and a clear cut among your people and your allies, much of the trek back you have to share with the gnolls and the elves. They split off from the main group, gnolls first, then the elves. It is not yet sunset by the time you reach your ruin.

>Tell your new servants to stay out. Do not expose them to necromantic energy

Hmm. Dragon or Mcdemonpants is talking shit. We'll have to handle that later.

> Tell 'em what's inside the ruin. If they don't like it, they can camp outside. If they live inside, they get a little more protection.
'Cause logically it'd be easier to protect them if they are not in the open.
>>
>>37601120

tell 'em you don't much care either way.
>>
>>37601120
Be upfront with them, the ruins themselves are full of necromanic energy, so it might be uncomfortable in there. Outside is perfectly fine, and the other resident prefers it out there anyway.
>>
'There are energies in this ruin. They may not be pleasant to you. I would ask you to come inside and join me. Eventually you will get used to it.'

'What have you done, boy.' Gerda says.

'I found it like this. Nonetheless, it is attuned to my brand of magic, and that is the magic I used to save you. I would invite you, honoured elders, to deal with it.'

'Hah!' Ragda laughs, 'Good boy, the elders were always stupid to try to keep you under their thumb. I for one will learn to deal with it. Who is with me?'

Some awkwardly agree. Others disagree, just as awkwardly. Ragda, Gerda and three of the rescued slaves steel themselves and enter the ruin. You see they are affected, but willful. If you could convince all of them to work from within the ruin you would have to worry much less about their security.

'Lathrien here has been studying to be my apprentice. He was pained to be here at first, and yet he has gotten used to it.'

'I have to say it is true. I did learn a little of Vlad Tepishes magic, but it stopped being so dark quite soon.'

'But we don't know any magic. How will that help us?'

>Offer to teach everybody just the very basics of necromancy
>'It does not matter. You should get used to the energies.'
>'I do not truly care whether you are inside or out. Try to get used to it, but if you cannot, stay outside.'

Have to say that teaching would be too much of a hassle. Have them stay right outside the cave. We could invite the elves to stay as well, if they aren't migratory.
>>

We are goddamn necromancer, why do we actually need humans? Except for potential fresh corpses that is.

You could stay there. I will keep in touch. I may ask for a favour or two. But you are free to move there.'

'Bother. I am going to stay around here if you don't mind. Or if you do and ain't going to attack an old woman for where she stays.' Ragda says.

'Bah, batty old bitch. If she's staying I'm staying. The rest of you go though, it's a good deal as you're going to get.'

>NOPE! I don't need no old ladies messing up my jam.
>Sure, sounds about right
>One of you should go with them. They're going to need an elder.

Elves split up with you a while ago. If you want to try to integrate the new human tribe with the elves you're going to have to diplomatize some other thread.

'If you wish to stay, ladies I am not going to stop you. I may have to see who the new elder is, but I suppose I did say you are now free.'

'Damned right you did, boy. So now what?'

'Oh shush, Vladdie saved us from a whole bunch of orcs, let him have a break.'

And with that, Feral Necromancer Quest VI concludes.

>Implying Ragda and Gerda haven't had a 'close friendship' for 30 years.

Huh, this session kind of ended up without a lot of options for advancement.

Reiterating that through play you did gain:

NECROMANCY IV:

You can now raise more intelligent undead. Raised casters retain their ability to use magic. Raised commanders retain their ability to lead and strategize. Intelligent undead cost 2 slots.

Your control 40/40 maximum minions (I will assume you raised the shaman as an intelligent undead, unless there's opposition.)
